Cookies: The Eternal Question - Crunchy or Chewy?
Mmm, cookies. If I had one on hand, this would be the part where I'd put a .gif of the Cookie Monster, but alas, I have none.
Chocolate chip, peanut butter, nuts of all kinds help comprise the entire wealth of cookies out there. But a second factor makes or breaks a cookie for people: texture. Which one do you prefer: crunchy or chewy? |
Chewy, motherfucker.
Crunchy cookies can go to hell, they have no purpose in life. |
Chewy. What JazzFlight says. Milk with cookies is good too. Stay in school.
|
I like soft cookies, but not too chewy. Cookies like Chewy Chips Ahoy are pretty bad because they're too chewy.
|
Who the fuck would pick crunchy over chewey, if given a choice? Crunchy cookies are just the nasty little shits that people eat because they seem to be the only thing people get as refreshments for social gatherings.
And you should have made a poll, so we could see how much people hate crunchy without having to go all through the thread and stuff. |
Chewy, theres nothing like a warm, soft and chewy chocolate chip cookie to brighten up your day. Although Oreos, I can make an exception.
|
No one likes crunchy Pepperidge Farm cookies?
|
Chewy.
Whenever I buy Pepperidge Farm cookies, I always prefer the soft-baked chewy cookies. |
I hate crunchy cookies-- with a passion. Chewy cookies, on the other hand, are scrumptious, as long as they aren't too chewy. I once had a cookie that was so soft it ended up falling apart when I held one side of it.
If I'm ever in a situation where I somehow find myself eating a crunchy cookie, a glass of milk is an absolute must. |
Freshly baked, home-made chewy chunky chocolate chip cookies. Ooh, and chewy gingerbread cookies.
The only crunchy cookies I'll eat are those danish butter cookies--the ones that come in those tin cans. Crunchy chocolate-chip cookies are the poor excuses of the badly baked chewy ones. Some people just won't admit they can't bake them right. They just shove the mess-ups in our lunch bag and hope to hell we eat them. I give them to my dog. |
Chewy. No question.
I like them best when they're straight out of the oven and the chocolate chips are all gooey and melty. Mmmmmm. |
Chewy, but with a slightly crunchy exterior.
Occasionally I will come across a cookie that exhibits these traits, and my happiness gauge shoots up. |
Chewy cookies reign supreme over their crunchy counterparts. Every time I bite into a crunchy cookie I can't get the feeling out of my head that I'm eating something stale, a few exceptions like Oreos aside. A cookie fresh from the oven has no equal.
|
i prefer my cookies soft and warm (I love the big cookie monster microwaved :D!) but between crunchy and chewy it's the same for me. For me the biggie wud be taste still
|
Chew, definitely. Much more delicious and um...delicious. Before I discovered chewy, I was eating crunchy, and now I don't think I can ever go back, haha.
|
I can't think of a time I would pick a crunchy cookie over a chewy one. So yeah, I'm with the crowd on this one.
A freshly oven-baked chewy cookie doesn't get much better than that. |
Chewy cookies for me as well. Any cookie with a noticeable grain must be soft to consume.
On the other hand, smooth battered cookies like Nilla Wafers, Milanos, and Oreos must be crunchy. So traditional baked cookies with thick batter or dough have to be chewy and cookies baked in forms have to be crunchy. |
I am hopping on the chewy train. Crunchy cookies always break up and get shit all over your shirt. Nothing like this has ever happened with a good chewy cookie. I once cut my gum on a crunchy cookie, a Chips Ahoy I think. That would be a name better reserved for a casino: CHIPS AHOY!!
|
As Jazzflight said. I perfer chewy cookies as well. They are MUCH better than crunchy cookies.....:edgarrock:
(Not trying to make anybody angry here.....) |
Chewy. Definitely chewy, especially when freshly baked and with chocolate chunks. And maybe some M&Ms.
Reading this thread makes me think; if so many people prefer chewy over crunchy, why are chewie cookies harder to find in stores (at least for me)? |

Wow, what is this? I like crunchy cookies. Soft cookies aren't good for dipping in milk, and they aren't as good.
|
I disagree. The soft cookies absorb the milk faster, so you don't have to hover over the milk for endless seconds waiting for the dunk to be worthwhile.
|
Although I don't eat much cookies, I prefer crunchy ones. They become soft anyway in milk :p
|
I like the chewy ones...I find the crunchy ones leave a lot more crumbs and I don't like the crunching sound. I associate chewy cookies with childhood memories *probably mom baking or something* and the crunchy ones seem so commercial.
Warm soft gooey chocolate chip cookies fresh from the oven are the best. |

Chewy cookies are the best since crunchy ones have a tendency to tear up the roof of your mouth.
|
Chewy. Because I have a nature aversion to crumbs all over me.
Also chewy just tastes better. ADMIT IT. |
Crunchy. The Chewy ones are disgusting. They're full of chemicals and emulsifiers to make them soft and pliable, and they don't taste anything like normal crunchy cookies. Their texture is strange and they don't absorb milk; this is because their insides are already saturated, and they are not porous, unlike crunchy cookies.
Chips Ahoy, Oreo, Kebler's Fudge cookies, I love them all. Nothing like them. I love dipping them in milk and having them fall apart in my mouth. You can't do that with chewy cookies because of all the super glue holding them together. |
If the chemicals bother you then you could just bake your own cookies. It's not that hard. =/
|
For me, I guess it depends on the mood. Most of the time, I prefer chewy because the texture compliments the soft, melted chocolate chips. However, on those occasions when I want to dip a cookie in milk or coffee (it makes the coffee flavor seem inadequate afterwards, but it turns softer faster) I go for the crunchy...especially Oreo's or their knock-off brands.

I WILL HEAR NO FURTHER DISCUSSION ON THE MATTER. |
"Homemade" chewy is a completely different feeling from what most people think of when they're talking about chewy cookies. Homemade cookies are extremely soft and fall apart easily. "Chewy" cookies do not. They have a much thicker consistancy and an almsot rubberlike texture.
|
Here in the UK we have a chain called "Millie's Cookies" and they are usually warm and soft; if you're not careful they'll bend and droop as you hold them, and they're VERY tasty. Plus, you can soak them in your chosen beverage just fine. They are however more fatty than regular cookies. Their muffins are good too but their brownies are crap.
|
Chewy, for sure. Crunchy cookies, on the other hand, tend to make its way to a cup of milk before I eat them.
|
I concur with the previous post...crunchy cookies do tend to end up in a glass of milk before entering my mouth...so I would say chewy! Big, Chewy, and Warm is the best with a nice tall glass of milk...hmm I've made myself hungry!!! Go figure...
|
Defintely chewy for me. Crunchy cookies make too much of a mess.
|
Chewy homemade. Especially mine.
|
Oh, its gotta be chewy man. Chewy...Soooo gooood.... The only thing Crunchies are good for is target practice!!1 But dont, dont put em in those thingies that launch clay pidgeons, the fuck it all up.
