Heros in RPGs who you wish you could kill slowly and painfully.

Inspired by a post in the villains you wanted to beatdown thread:

So yeah, I know that we all frequently play RPGs and of course we never have a member of the hero party who we don't like. Yeah right. So in this thread, we will discuss heros who we cannot stand and would like to see captured, tortured, and eventually killed by our archenemies.

I know that for me, there are a couple of general types of characters who bother me. For example, the bubbly, hyperactive teenage girl characters tend to bother me. Sorry Meru {Legend of Dragoon}, but it's true, I want you to die. Characters who act foolishly due to their own ignorance and blind faith in something bother me. Sorry Wakka, but I just don't care about THE TEACHINGS MAN, THE TEACHIIIIIINGS, I hope Sin obliterates you. I don't like loud and stupid characters. Sorry Joaquim Valentine {Shadow Hearts: Covenant}, if Nicolai had stabbed you in the eye, I would not have been sad, unless I had forgotten to unequip a good accessory before it happened.

So which of your party members do you hope the bed-bugs do bite? Who do you want Sephiroth to stab next, and why?

Summonmaster Apr 11, 2006 10:05 PM

I agree with Flonne...just not the kind of cute that I like. Her ultimate attack left me crying at how pathetically weak it is when you haven't raised Int. Best at bows and staves, always talking about the power of love, having inferior range to Laharl and Etna, Flonne can just go burn in the Sea of Gehenna.

Gordon was the most annoying with his "ho!" and snobby justice speak. I wanted him to burn from a Meteor Impact and Chaos Impact combined. What a dense fruit, make me choose between hit and attack why don't ya?

Zelha from Baten Kaitos takes the cake, with her sinfully blasphemous VA and plain boring outfit. There is nothing more to say about her abominable voice.

Matt Apr 11, 2006 10:14 PM

I could never stand Aribeth in Neverwinter Nights.
Her voice drove me to the brink of sanity, and she was even the reason why I could never make it through the entire main quest. I just could NOT stand talking to her to receive the next leg of the quest.

DeadHorse++ Apr 12, 2006 01:23 AM

I wanted almost the entire cast of Final Fantasy VII to die. Especially on the first disc they were all blithering idiots in a variety of ways.

I was happy when Gremio died in Suikoden...and sad when Leknaat brought him back. Dude seriously creeped me out, constantly mothering my main character even though he's both a HE and several years older.

Eh, that'll do fer now.

Spoiler:
That's a shame, because you get to kill her at the end of the main quest.

My own choice would be Rosh Penin from Jedi Knight III (well, it's an action-adventure). He's a horrible, horrible character reminiscent of Jar Jar Binks. Annoying, very lame, and also a traitor. Ugh.

kat Apr 12, 2006 03:49 AM

I have to say Lloyd is the most annoying hero ever created. Hell everyone in Tales of Symphonia save Kratos deserved to be heaved into a large body of water with bricks tied to their feet.

I'm a big fan of mute main characters. It's very ineffectual when you hate the protagonists, at least with the mute ones, you're apathetic at best.

Shirokage Apr 12, 2006 05:02 AM

Nowe from Drakengard 2. Falls in love with Manah at first sight, becomes a stupid love sick boy, and a loudmouth while his is trying to rescue her. (He screams her name when he was trying to sneak through enemy territory)

ComCrimson Apr 12, 2006 08:03 AM

Yuna from FFX annoyed me constantly. She is just that type of character that i cannot stand. Waving around some poncy stick and crying at any given moment. I can't be dealing with all that over emotional stuff in games. Watching her die very slowly would bring a smile to my face

Xhela from Baten Kaitos also annoyed me. I never have her in my party (probably why i can't complete the game, her attacks work very well) because i just can't stand her. Her VA bugged the hell out of me and she took so long to do anything. I could have gone to make myself a sandwhich in the time it took her to attack.

I can't think of any others right now. Been a while since i played an RPG so i can't remember any. I'll post some more later

Gechmir Apr 12, 2006 08:21 AM

Shania from Shadow Hearts 3. SH2 had a lovely amount of depth and focus on Yuri. Not a ton on the others, but the whole premise *was* Yuri just about. SH3 lacked this level of character development and personality that I enjoyed in #2.

Shania was just a bitch. A robot woman =( "I'm out for revenge. You shut up Elder. I'm out for revenge. Look at my tush in these minishorts. I'm out for revenge."

I also felt the main heroine in Wild Arms 3 was bizarro. Every scene, someone slapped her it seemed. I chuckled along with my brother about it. Every time a storyline would come, we'd cheer for someone to slap her or something if she started to get on our nerves.

Amanda Apr 12, 2006 12:05 PM

Cloud Strife. I just...hated him. So, so much. This sums up at least one of the reasons why.

Quote:

Lili interjects, "Cloud is now a +2 ANGSTY SULLEN EMO BOY, and has decided that the best way to deal with his emotional trauma is by being an asshole to everyone."
I don't mind angst in and of itself, as long as it's done well. But not only is Cloud's angst uninteresting and over-done, he spends most of his time being a dick to everyone. His one shining moment of NOT SUCKING is the bit with Sephiroth's sword in the reactor (the part you see in Last Order). Everything after that in the timeline... Ugh. Just die already, Cloud. I would not be sad to see him torn apart by rabid wolverines.

SouthJag Apr 12, 2006 05:18 PM

I don't know how many times I wanted to smack Lloyd around. What a little bastard. Also, there were several occassions where I wanted to chuck a stone at Reith from Magna Carta. She's just so damn....annoying.

Squall. FF8's Squall is SO MUCH MORE of an angsty pissant than Cloud. In fact, all of the male leads in FF8 had such pathetic roles it was ridiculous. Zell, the over-hyped on pop-culture radical hyperactive GO GET 'EM KID!, and Irvine. I'm really not gonna bother with Irvine. What a fuckhead. The entire male cast of FF8 deserves to be stoned to death, save for Laguna's team.

Golfdish from Hell Apr 12, 2006 07:05 PM

As opposed to individual heroes, I'd think more along the lines of gas-chambering the entire casts for Chrono Cross (except for the dancer chick and the little alien) and FFIX (no exceptions). In both games, both groups of heroes could have been completely killed off and their respective games would have been better. The FFIX guys tried too hard to make people like them and fit into their defined roles, while the CC cast was just...there. Making guest appearances in the chamber: Rinoa (never liked her and she was never more interesting than either Selphie or Quistis, who were pushed to the side for her) and Sora (or rather, younger version of a stock-Nomura main character design with annoying voice).

Monkey King Apr 13, 2006 11:05 AM

I really wanted Dart to die in Legend of Dragoon. Actually, I wanted everyone to die except Rose, but Dart was the worst. The game had exactly one fleshed out character and a bunch of incompetent one-note archetypes, emphasis on the incompetent part. A guy who gets his dragoon spirit stolen twice has no business being the leader. The game felt more like The Adventures of Fighter.

I sure wanted Cloud to die. I never did figure out what his problem was. All I know is that if you routinely get mind controlled by the bad guy, you might not be the best candidate to be holding onto the black materia. Just sayin'.

Navi. Fucking Navi. I wanted to stuff her in a bottle and throw her off a cliff. I could live with only three bottles.

Soldier Apr 13, 2006 05:28 PM

I take it we're only allowed to rip on main heroes and not party members? Regardless, the only guy I really couldn't stand was Kazuki from Front Mission 3.

http://users3.ev1.net/~nate555/front...m3kazface2.jpg http://users3.ev1.net/~nate555/front...m3kazface5.jpg

Kazuki has got to be the angriest character I've ever seen in an RPG. This guy gets angry over EVERY SINGLE THING, and he constantly screams his brains out to all the other characters. How could anyone stand being around this asshole? I'll take the quiet types over a guy who busts a lung every time his wisecracking friend makes a joke.

lord-of-shadow Apr 21, 2006 04:02 PM

The main hero from Suikoden 4. What is with those shorts, anyways? And that haircut? It's like they grabbed some random moron out of a terrible, terrible 80s cartoon or something.

midais Apr 22, 2006 01:19 AM

Rinoa Heartily. The dumb bitch is so damn whiny and always complains when she doesn't get what she wants. Plus you have to rescue her like five times.

Elrasiel Apr 26, 2006 06:23 AM

The main character of Dragon Quest VIII. How pathetic can a hero be if he never talks and doesnt even have a personality? Link was at least interesting but that stupid hero-.- I would love to slice up he's stomache and slowly pull out he's guts....reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeealy slowly. Wondering if he still won't talk after that. Oh and I hate that stupid fairy bitch in Zelda - Ocarina Of Time. I could have smashed her like a stinking fly. She was so anoying. Stupid fairy whore! Should have get raped by whoever created her (preferably her father)...

Omega Weapon May 14, 2006 10:16 AM

Reise in Tsuganai. I guess his atonement is punishment enough, but if he ever gets out of it I'll have more reason to hate him.

Conqueso May 17, 2006 09:27 PM

Shirley Fennes, Tales of Legendia. Rarely does a Mary Sue get on my nerves, but between her voice, her clothing, and her inability to do or decide anything for herself despite being the supposed Saviour of Her Race(tm), they couldn't make a less likeable female lead if they tried. And Harriet Campbell from the same game. Bratty little mishmash of self-contradictions.

I wouldn't kill ALL of FFX's cast. :( Lulu feckin' rocked. And Auron was okay.

Cirno May 18, 2006 12:19 AM

Tidus

http://img362.imageshack.us/img362/3434/29nq1.jpg

"MY OLD MAN???"

Shut this fucker up. Auron should've just left his ass to get demolished by Sin. I couldn't stand his design or his cheerful personality. Something about the way it was just executed pissed me off. Honestly, I didn't have that big of a porblem with him at the beginning. I was too horny off the graphics and Auron's sheer manliness to pay much attention on the negative aspects of FFX.

But then came the laughing scene.

Spoiler:

FFX fortunately had Lulu's cleavageful win victory and Auron's hairless armpits.

Leknaat May 18, 2006 04:40 AM

Devo: Turn Battle Voices Off. It's nice. I had to do that when going for the chain Battle Trophies. Fayt was driving me crazy.

But, character I wanted to kill off....

Noa from legend of LeGaia. I'm not a fan of the bubbly types, but I can usually tolerate them. But Noa's arm-flapping made me want to kill her. I honestly think she's the sole reason I got rid of the game.....

Tidus Yeah...a Final Fantasy one....if he hadn't said "my old man" so many times, I probably would have liked him better....

Snowe from Suikoden IV. Whiny, arrogant, bastard. I think I'll behead him this time.....

Adray from SO3. Devo thought her choice was bad....Man, use Adray. He's just as bad, if not worse. Not to mention he "poses" in a fight.

I just naturally shy away from using characters whose name comes from pig latin. I do agree with Cliff, though I think it was "Not bad! Not bad!". Yes bad. Yes bad.

Actually, I think it is "I'm bad. I'm bad." Seems Cliff leveled up and scored more deathblows than the others. That's why he talked so much. He had "Moron, know your opponent before fighting." for winning. And the other things for leveling up.

Okay...I thought of some others:

Precis and Noah from SO2. My GOD they had to have some of the most annoying lines. Precis: "Here's mister enemy!" Noah: "Do we have to hurt them?" You can guess that I never gathered all the voices...LOL

Aww that's sad. I liked Noa.

Anyway, after playing through Grandia 3, I wouldn't mind scalping Ulf and tossing him out to see. Something about him just got on my nerves. He seemed kinda shallow and basically stupid.

Ashton May 22, 2006 01:32 AM

You people are weird and will stay weird and will always be weird. Except for that guy.

Such is the fate of anyone who thinks their hate is deserved more by anyone other than the hero of S4.

Skexis May 22, 2006 02:08 AM

Yuffie was the only one I ever wanted to throttle with my bare hands, because she was such a bitch about the whole materia thing. And then, after the shit she puts me through to find everything again, I'm expected to think it's cute that she stole the things I had worked so hard to collect, and let her off the hook without a good punch to the grill.

She was a horrible character in general. Couldn't attack for shit, and that was basically the extent of her "skill." She was a worthless bit of fluff inserted not so subtly in so that pedos and loli-lovers everywhere would have something to look at in the battle screen.

Ashton May 22, 2006 11:51 AM

^^^^^

I'm starting to think this thread isn't a good idea because of all the fanboy rage going on in here. Yuffie's one of the few characters in FF7 who gets a multi-hit limit break without any stupid Gimmicks. And it's a level 3 limit. Not 4 like Highwind, or Omnislash.

As for the materia thing, I can't be the only one who liked that part of the game most. It was an actual challenge, unlike almost every other part of the game where it's BIG GUARD ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK LIMIT BREAK SUMMON SUMMON SUMMON. The only real challenge apart from that section was the weapons, and the only reason i haven't beaten ruby is because it takes too long and the reward is worthless.

Storywise, who said you had to think it was cute?

Gechmir May 22, 2006 12:04 PM

Pardon our opinions for not following your own, O Almighty One.

Thankfully, you can choose Bowman instead of Precis and avoid ever hearing her voice. The same can't be sail for Noel. Even Claude's voice annoyed me at time's, "Well, that's somewhere around 80 points!"...*mutes sound*

Krelian May 22, 2006 03:18 PM

Anyone in FFVII who isn't Cait Sith. Seriously, the characters are the most bland, uninspired, just-plain-fucking-IRRITATING cast I've encountered in any RPG I've played. Cloud and Vincent are emo recluses, Yuffie is a sugar-filled crazywoman and Barrett is a stereotyped foulmouthed "can of whoop-ass".

Most of the characters from FFVIII and FFX pissed me off, too.

Oh, and Chu-Chu from Xenogears. She was the only thing wrong with the most perfect game on Earth. :(

edit: Colette, Genis, Regal from Tales of Symphonia, Reid and Farah from Tales of Eternia, etc etc

Syndrome May 22, 2006 03:32 PM

Definately Lloyd from Tales of Symphonia.
I just HATE his "NO! I DON'T CARE IF I DIE, I'LL DEFINATELY HELP YOU FIND YOUR LOST DOG!"-attitude.

Word, although I liked Regal's voice actor (the same actor that did Lord Zetta and many others). And I think anyone can admit that Eternia voice acting was bad. I didn't mind Farah, though.

I think you should have mentioned Keele instead. Slowly, painfully and Keele are three words that go together hand in hand.

This is why I've never collected all the voices. After my first time using Precis, I chose Bowman from that point on.....

And I always have to think about things:

Goofy from Kingdom Hearts. Okay, he's my favorite Disney character, but he was ALWAYS in my way when I was trying to line up jumps. I turn around, and there he is! God, I really wanted the "single person representing a group" structure at that point.

Soluzar May 22, 2006 10:01 PM

Squall Leonheart - He just seemed like a whiny teenager from the beginning to the end of the game. I never got to like even a single character from Final Fantasy VIII. The whole game was just a waste of my time, but Squall was that much more annoying than the rest.

I don't mind angst... but there's a difference between angst and just plain whining. He crossed that line.

Yuna May 25, 2006 11:28 AM

Even though I'm a fan of Final Fantasy series there's always one character (at least) per game i'd like to send straigh to hell.
Yuffie (FFVII) is the first. I never liked her and probably never will. The only time I thought she was ok was in FFVIIAC.
Kimari (FFX) is another idiot; I was just glad he didn't talk much.
The entire cast of FFIX, starting with Amarant and Kina (I think that was his name), only god knows how much I hated those guys.
Laguna form FFVIII, neither my friends or myself couldn]t stand him. Whatever there was a scene with him we played it cursing the whole time.

Someone here mentioned the "Green Beast" from Xenogears, sorry for forgeting his name.
In Chrono Cross I hated the main character during the time we played using somebody's else body (I think the name of the character is Lynx)

Eh, him and Ras are the only two characters who didn't make me balk. I actually played through with the voices off and skipping FMVs.

Probably the worst Tales game in the series. Still waiting for that Phantasia remake.

Leknaat May 25, 2006 11:34 PM

Krelian...I never said what you have me quoted as saying. That was Rocca....

I've never played a Tales game.

Yuna--thank you for knowing Amarant's name. I always want to call him the rooster. His only endearing quality was he could get rid of your excess items. And I agree about Quina.

Jujubee May 26, 2006 01:25 AM

Any kid character who's a 14-17 year old wimp but can beat up a grown man ten times his size. I really hate those little punks, what they need is a healthy dose of physics. Give us more adult characters who actually look like they can kick some ass. Enough with the brats who aren't old enough to buy alchohol or go to a strip club but can save the world with toy swords. I want to see more RPG casts like Shadow Hearts 2, Magna Carta and Xenosaga.

Meredy from Tales of Destiny II needs to die.
So does every single character in Lunar: Silver Star Story.

I kinda wish Dante had gotten the shit beaten out him in DMC 3 (well, he did, but more so). What an annoying character to play as. I far preferred him in the first one.

The Bishop Jul 24, 2006 12:33 AM

Squall (FF8) - man this guy was SO slow i often found myself screaming at the screen and going WTF dude just make out already!

Aribeth (NWN) - all I could hear was 'whine whine whine', I wish you could just kill her at the start of the game and do the world a big favour. :D

Dee Jul 24, 2006 02:32 AM

I have huge rage mostly against females in RPGs, I don't know why, but mainly because it seems like their characterization lacks much poorly against males.

Xenogears - Chu Chu. Whoa whoa whoa. Talk about USELESS. The only good thing about it is that it swells into some giant who can beat up a gear. Once.

Final Fantasy VIII - Just about everyone whose age falls within the 17-18 age range. Selphie was naturally too "goodie" that I just want to punch her in the face. Rinoa is also pretty bland. "Oh, I'm useless!" Yeah, and the dog sucks too.

FFVII - Cait Sith, hands down. Never used it in battle. Also a blah character that just needs to shut up.

FFIX - Eiko. Little dwarf girls aren't my thing.

Suikoden IV - Snowe also needs to be punched in the face. "MY ARM! MY ARRRRRM!" I beheaded him once, but reloaded right after the scene just so I didn't have to replay that terrible game.

Disgaea - Flonne. High pitched voices also aren't my thing. And the whole good thing gets old, fast.

Star Ocean 3 - Sophia. Terrible AND useless.

Dullenplain Jul 24, 2006 02:32 AM

I probably have several, but the one that stands out severely in my mind is:

Zidane from FFIX

That guy has the worst kind of naive possible and has the mood swings of a pregnant woman. The moment I saw his dialogue box come up I knew I wouldn't enjoy him, and I was right.

Honorable mentions include:

Snowe of Suikoden IV - whiny aristocrat
Fayt of SO3 - teen with existential angst

I must have a bias against teenage males with emotional issues, yet somehow I don't find the supposed epitome (Squall of FFVIII) annoying at all.

BucPride Jul 24, 2006 03:13 AM

I always hated Tidus in FFX. At first glance, I knew I would. He looked like a reject from a boy-band, and my fear was confirmed as I played it. He was really annoying, and to a degree that's beyond Cloud in my opinion (although, thats another character I'd like to incinerate) I hate to beat a dead horse here, but I can't help but stress enough, Tidus needed to be less of a cheery go-getter feminin' looking character.

Inhert Jul 24, 2006 03:28 AM

I have to say, all charasters of tales of Legendia, man I hate to say this but I so HATE this game, it's boring, the story is shit, they really screw up the battle system and the character are so annoying, those voices doesn't even fit the character and god I never seen so many annoying characters in the same party at the same in a single game >.>

do I have to say annoying again? (god I'm happy they return to the "true" team that worked on previous tales before)

Sharaz Jek Aug 3, 2006 04:53 AM

My least favorite mains are Lenneth Valkyrie and Shion Uzuki. The former is extremely dull and highly unsympathetic, while the latter is obnoxious and useless. I also dislike Squall. Mute mains are always a terrible idea. I'd rather be stuck with a character I hate rather than that. I don't like Yuri Hyuga much either, mostly because of his lousy idiot one-liners in Covenant.

Zefier Aug 3, 2006 08:14 PM

Well, I'd say Shirley Fennes from Tales of Legendia and Sophia Esteed from SO3 need to die BADLY. The former has some magnetic force that allows her to be kidnapped just about every damn second of the game and the latter just 100% annoying.

Arainach Aug 3, 2006 08:49 PM

A surprisingly large portion of the Final Fantasy Protagonists I wanted to kill.

Squall first and foremost. That kid had ISSUES and took 60 hours of my life to fucking have them explained to him, never really figuring them out.

Eiko from FF9. Shutup, bitch, and stop screwing with all my plans. No, I do NOT find an 8-year-old with short hair attractive. Get over it.

Wakka. I don't like Jehova's Witnesses that come to my door and talk about scripture, and I don't like Jehova's Witnesses that come to my games and talk about scripture.

Cloud, Yuffie, Vinc.....screw it. THE ENTIRE CAST OF FINAL FANTASY VII. Except Tifa. She had redeeming qualities. And yet, strangely, I still love the game. What's wrog with me?

The ENTIRE cast of X-2. Look, we can totally change Yuna's character, Paine's like Auron only a billion times worse, and we found a way to make Rikku even MORE of a whore! (Admittedly, I didn't think they could pull that off and still market the game to kids, so props on that)

I lol'd. Gonna go kinda vague here, but I basically loathe any character who joins your party (and overall, your quest) for no good reason. Rendalf, the dwarf in Astonishia Story, does this. He's basically like "I've got nowhere else to go so hey, I'll throw my life away for your sake!"

Hm, who else. I can't think of any other characters like that at the moment, but there are others out there. The bitches.

No. Hard Pass. Aug 3, 2006 11:43 PM

Mine are all pretty standard. I loathe Squall because he's a whiny, emo fuck. He doesn't contribute anything, all he does is bitch and moan. Selphie because she's an outgoing pain in the ass, who also contributes nothing.

The generic Cait Sith/Quina character. The only "joke" characters I've ever really liked were Umaro and Mog. Most SE games have some variation on this theme, where one character is just RIDICULOUS.

The people who mentioned people like Snowe missed the point. I hated Suikoden IV, but you were MEANT to hate Snowe. That's like saying you hate Algus in FF Tactics. You're MEANT to hate Algus. He's a whiny, spoiled prick.

Generally, I dislike characters with no personality. I like a backstory, and anyone who is simply there to fill space tends to piss me off.

As much as I love him, Grey from Atelier Iris 2 does that, and even says that's the reason why he joins you. "I got nothing better to do, and besides, you're a interesting character!" BAH!

I need to add Snowe to my list as well...Suikoden "fodder" characters are supposed to MAKE you like them, so you can perfect the game and let them make it through alive. Suikoden IV had already pissed me off and I just wanted to get it over with no matter what ending I got, so when I was graciously given the option to behead him...

I know Suikoden games feature a lot of characters that are there to fill up star slots, but about 3/4 of the cast I got in S4 could probably go without me shedding a tear. They just weren't well introduced or used at all. Almost as bad as the Chrono Cross cast, although they did have at least some reason to join up. Kind of...

Tactics was worse. First time I haven't gotten every single available character in a suiko game. Fuck the little mercenaries. That game had to END.

Then you were meant to like him because he redeemed himself.....

I think I would have liked him more if he had stayed on the dark side and stayed a pirate.

But nooooo--he had to be a SOD that you HAD to have for the best ending.....

MTGNecro Sep 2, 2006 08:50 PM

SO3 - I am sorry, but Fayt, he is just so god damned dense sometimes, it is amazing...

FFX - Tidus, the boy band reject(as was stated above). Khimari, I really dun know why, but ya...and most of all, Yuna...I got my reasons...

NWN: Someone above said Aribeth, I agree completely and was glad when you actually did get to kill her in the end....but couldn't we have just done that part first?

Now, on to an older RPG...

Fallout 1: DOGMEAT! You bastard! I try and keep your dog ass alive and yet...you just get in my line of fire and when that laser gattling gun goes off...whoops, time to load my last save.

The boss of the game, only because he spoke in a really wierd way that creeped me out...Oh wait, this is heroes

ArchesFan Sep 3, 2006 12:25 AM

I would have prefered for the entire cast of FF9, 10, and 10-2...(I'd like Yuna and Rikku to die twice please). Wasn't a huge fan of Collette and a few other chars from Tales of Symphonia. And as for a few others, Momo was quite annoying at times in Xenosaga...dunno if I would kill her due to the cute factor. Along with many of the ones everyone wants dead (Tingle, Navi.) Last but not least, the Prince Charmles from Dragon Quest VIII...he wasn't much of a hero, but I'd kill him anyway.

sadikyo Sep 3, 2006 11:33 AM

I also have a general "type" of character that I find REALLY annoying. In many RPGs, there is this 'cool' looking guy in the beginning that all the girls love and all the guys hate cause he's so awesome and powerful. So you have to beg and beg and sell your soul and then you FINALLY get to have him in your party, but he's still an asshole and tells you constantly why you suck and he's so much better than you.

What makes this even more annoying is when there's some introductory part where you are allowed to fight him, but the game dooms you to losing to him, even if you have gone outside and leveled up a bunch just so you would actually be powerful enough to beat him. These people are really annoying to me...

Damn right. Only thing that saved his life is because he was a star. Made me sad to safe his ass.

Surpringly there's not that many characters that annoyed me THAT much as everyone else.

People like Tidus come to mind, but I think that's more the voice actor that annoyed me then the actuall personality.

Chibi Neko Sep 4, 2006 08:14 PM

Rinoa from FFVIII!
Dammit I hate that bitch so much. In the scene that she was hanging from the cliff, I was yelling 'drop! drop! drop!' at the screen!

midais Sep 4, 2006 10:10 PM

I second Rinoa. Even Princess Peach probably didn't need as much rescueing. Or have as much whining.

I'm also quite annoyed at Lucrecia in the recent DoC:FFVII. Yes, we know you're 'so sorry', now get over it.

Not to defend or anything, but I managed to destroy bahamut in one round using her limit attack with her dog :x

Not too sure which hero I'd like to off. Mallow from Mario RPG comes to mind, he was just too damn whiny for my tastes.

This isn't bizarro universe where you can take the best character and say you hate them because they're brave and heroic. ;_;

Why weren't you using a sniper rifle, anyways?

Angel of Light Sep 5, 2006 03:52 AM

I don't personally have that many heroes that I would kill slowly and painfully maybe its because I have a high tolerance for very annoying characters. I do have a few nonetheless.

Chu-Chu (Xenogears) - What an annoying furball. Something that cute should not be in a very relgious and very dark game. I was actually kind of happy when I seen him strung up on those metal crosses with the other gears.

Kyleen (Thousand Arms) - The biggest gold-digger in all of rpg history, from the games I have played anyway. I have never met a woman that was so hard to please in any rpg. She would only acknowledge your existence if you were rich, and the only way you could make ehr happy is if you gave her expensive gifts such as jewelry.

Trench Sep 12, 2006 03:21 PM

Unfortunately I can't say Squall because he isn't a hero. Just because you swing around a sword striking monsters down doesn't make you a hero. Villains can do that too, Squall. Heroes are people we look up to; good people. Since Squall isn't actually even a character, seeing as how he has no characteristics, I don't even know why I brought him up in this thread.

I guess you can count Rose from Legend of Dragoon as a hero, but she was so fuckin stupid I'm not sure about that one. I'd like to peel back her fingernails, stab them into her intestines and then.... aahhh, you get the picture.

Dizzy Sep 12, 2006 06:19 PM

FF VIII: Irvine: Total wuzz and fake. Also a loser, can't get any chick from the game despite his efforts.

Crono and Serge (Chrono Saga): I totally HATE every character that can't speak. Shame on Crono though, he had charisma, but without personality is crap.

Memnoch Sep 12, 2006 08:37 PM

Final Fantasy X : Tidus: The only time i did like him was in the end,but still he was acting a little "feminine" when he said "Yuna"..it was like a woman did the motion capture...yuck.(jump in oblivion was cool though)

: Wakka;"Ya"? aaaah besides his accent he's just a terrible character who uses a freaking "ball" to kill enemies..come on?

Final Fantasy X-2: The unholy threesome: I don't have to explain..i think.I did like Yuna in FFX.

Kingdom Hearts 2: all the disney characters,Sora and RIKU..he SERIOUSLY disappointed me in KH2.

there are more, but it would take foreverXD

Zeta26 Sep 12, 2006 11:33 PM

Um, for the record. You should've said Kingdom Hearts, KH 2 and KH: Chains of Memories. Anyways why would you care?

For me though, I'd use Necron's Grand Cross on the FFX-2 version of Yuna, Rikku and Paine. Because for some reason. This game just didn't interest me as much as FFXII, FFVII and FFIX + FFXIII and FF Versus XIII did.

Oh, so you played FF XIII already? O_o

Unforgiven Feb 22, 2007 01:35 AM

Any character from Grandia Xtreme...

Man, the voice acting AND script were both very bad. :( (The game as well.)

Redfield Feb 25, 2007 02:06 PM

All Protagonists from Final Fantasy X - Everything about the protagonists was awful. Their designs, personalities, voices, back-stories, they were just mediocre. So mediocre, in fact, that Auron seems bad ass in comparison to them, when I believe he's really not, he's just another video game stereotype. Tidus was especially bad. He has to be the most whiny video game protagonist of all time, almost every word out of his mouth involves him bitching and moaning about his father, or Spira, or whatever the hell he feels like whining about at that point of the game. We know, you hate your father, and I don't care, and I sure as hell don't want to hear about it anymore.

Sora (Kingdom Hearts) - Do I even have to elaborate on this one? Plus, isn't this the guy from The Bouncer?

Snowe (Suikoden IV) - Christ, I thought this guy wasn't going to bother me, but when he goes and gets me screwed over because he's a coward? Usually, I'm all for the coward characters, but Snowe was the epitome of a little bitch. At least Brad Vickers redeemed himself by lending us the Rocket Launcher, and the key to the lockers.

Ayla (Chrono Trigger) - I couldn't stand the way she spoke. They didn't even have English back then, so why the hell is she talking in this ridiculous Mongoloid English? Plus, her time period was the most annoying to play.

Lyon (Suikoden V) - Your typical Anime-inspired pseudo-loli love interest. Like we haven't seen enough of these already.

There's most likely a bunch more (there's rarely ever a party member in a game that doesn't annoy me), but I should stop before I make myself look like even more of a jack ass.

Domino Feb 25, 2007 04:43 PM

Sqaull (FFVIII)
He was so slow on the uptake, and whined way too much for my liking.

Tidus (FFX)
He just annoyed the hell out of me, him and his "old man".

Single Elbow Feb 25, 2007 05:14 PM

Man, all these talk from Star Ocean 2 about Precis and Noah is a given. But someone trumps them all:

Ernest

Have you gotten him? I did once when Opera was on my party. The bugger doesn't even have any decent moves. His whip damage is a fucking joke even. Worse of all, his character is the epitome of flat and boring - making him look like Opera's sidekick instead of her boyfriend and an actual character.

Since then, I only used Ashton, Dias, Claude and Rena in my party. Hello swordsmen!

Starwars Feb 25, 2007 06:27 PM

Tidus is the obvious winner for me. Not just his attitude, his stupid looking clothes... but the voice... Oh god the voice. This is why I'm able to tolerate certain character, or even bond with them, in prior Final Fantasies (emo Squall for example). But everytime Tidus opens his mouth, I just want to strangle him.
FFX has forever changed my view on voiceacting in games.

A lot of the characters in Oblivion are really annoying. They just seem so incredibly stupid... Whenever you talk to them, the camera zooms right up in their faces (which are stupid looking indeed). Talk with them about their city or the 'rumours' topic, and they spout stupid information. They even hold stupid conversations with each other. Makes me flee the inns sometimes.
I know that they aren't heroes, but I just had to mention them here since they can be so incredibly annoying.

There is some RPG for Xbox360 that features a gay male character (don't know the names). When I read about this I thought 'how interesting, finally someone breaks the mold'. And then of course, I watch some video that was put together showing cutscenes and whatnot of him, and there is just no way I could play a game with character like him. The stereotypical 'bitchy queen' voice is used in full effect, and god I hate people who talk like that, whether they're female or males.

Infy Mar 8, 2007 02:33 PM

I can start with the final fantasy games.

VII - Cait Sith in my eyes completely useless, the way "it" interacted with the characters completey baffled me. it would've been nice to see "it" die and NOT come back. Yuffie, stole my shit. UNFORGIVABLE.

VIII- Selphie. annoying to a fault. to the brink of insanity.

IX - none, i liked them all lolz.

X - Tidus, the happy go lucky thing is completely pointless. And then turn a tear because daddy doesnt wuv you.

XII- havn't betean it yet. but thus far i wish penelo to die. no particular reason, she just, angers me.

other games.

shadow hearts 2 - I agree with anyone that said Joachim, i saw it somewhere.

rogue galaxy - lilika. the style of fighting, complete uselessness by the end of the game, the way she talked. the way she kinded just didn't fit in. her stupid one liners once every couple of hours. anger. and on that note, no one in this game inspires more will to kill than the like, omg, TOTALLY awesome MIO!

in fact, no one in a game in general inspires that much anger, save Mac Frasier from the SSX series. but i digress.

edit: completely forgot about a certain character.

GRANDIA 3 - Alfina. the only way to completely state my entire point would be this: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2006/02/22

Klaus Mar 9, 2007 03:41 PM

The main person I want to murder is Marche from FFTA. I can't stand him in any way, shape or form, Montblanc always gets a trip to Jagd as well.

Tidus too. I like happy people I do, but the whole father issues thing bugs me. One minute he says he doesn't care about his father and then he goes on whining about it for most of the game.

I haven't finished FF12 yet but Balthier is pissing me off. He always has something to say, a metaphor, a simile, some sort of witty anecdote. He contributes nothing beyond that, I wish I could kill him and take his airship. He even has something to say when no one is talking to him.

I honesty can’t see where his fanbase comes from.

Mickey in KH and KH2, there’s something about him I don't like. I feel like he started the whole mess.

Does Jaheira in BG2 count? Because you can kill her slowly. Once I found out she was to be a widow I knew she going to piss me off. She’s supposed to be neutral and yet I can't yell at children or at the homeless, can't solicit hookers either. I can do nothing with her in my party besides smite evil and agree with her.

Ernest = lol. I got him twice in the 6 or 7 times I played Star Ocean.

Herbal_Carnage Mar 28, 2007 06:54 PM

Tidus!!!! I just wanna gut him! Worst FF Char EVER! well at least IMO.

Winter Storm Apr 17, 2007 03:01 PM

Al fucking fina in Grandia III. She is not only the most EMO CHARACTER IS ROLE PLAYING HISTORY but she literally CRIED throughout the entire game. Everything, and all things made this idiot go to tears. For the two times Emelious would attempt to chock her to death, I was right there rooting him on!

crabman Apr 18, 2007 01:52 AM

Leo Stenbuck from the first Zone of the Enders game. Damn he was a little bitch, ADA ADA NO!!! GIVE ADA BACK!! STFU AND BE A MAN BITCH!

Almost everybody from the game Magna Carta: Tears of Blood. I swear, i didn't buy that game for the reasons you think i did... all six of them.

Sora, Donald, Goofy. Sora, Donald, Goofy. Sora, Donald, Goofy. Sora, DONALD FUCKING GOOFY!!!!

I know their names already damn it! quit saying it. except i still like Sora, so just donald and goofy.

O and Maria from Star Ocean till the end of time. To me, she was one of those characters that you kept dead because it was a waste of magic and/or an item to bring her back. soooo maybe i already did kill her in my own way.

DarkLink2135 Apr 18, 2007 01:03 PM

Not really an RPG, but regardless, Arthas from WarCraft III. He was a whiny little overzealous bitch of a prince in the human campaign, and all the others he was a wannabe underling, then just like a pussy little emo, he cried all the way up to the frozen throne and almost reluctantly took it because of all the poor friends he sacrificed to get there.

What a loser.

Not to mention sometimes she was useless in a fight, anyway. And I had to go through that one dungeon for her?!

I preferred Miakis over her, anyway.

FFXII--Ashe. I'm sorry, but she's a bitch. The way she talks to those who could be her subjects again one day kind of sets my teeth on edge....

Winter Storm Apr 21, 2007 04:09 PM

Lyon wasn't so bad to me, but Kyle, or whatever that dudes name - the one who is always hitting on girls. He annoyed me to no end. Honestly probably the only "hero" in suikoden V I really liked was ummm Arshtats sister(my memory is going to hell these days..). The "thing" she does, sends the message of "If you want it done right, you gotta do it yourself".

ROTFLMAO! *pat pat* It's ok man XD there there, there there. Riku got hyped out the ass in that game.

Helloween Apr 21, 2007 11:44 PM

I'm gonna go ahead and say every character from Grandia III with a few exceptions.

Ulf was tolerable for me. I enjoyed his character enough, but his lines were usually so cheesey, which is true for all characters.

Miranda was ok, but her character started to thin out as the game went on. I'm glad you eventually got rid of her, before she got too stupid.

Alonso was ok. No real big problems with him.

Yuki, however, started off fine. I didn't have any problems with him, but oh my god did he really let himself go. By the time the second disc came around i couldn't stand him, and was cursing his existance all the way through the second disc.

Alfina. Didn't mind her at first, but she took many downward declines, much like Yuki, only faster, and sooner.

Dahnna: Seriously, pointless character. She just sort of showed up, and instantly became soul mates with Alfina, making her the next character you get. She was a cut and paste character in terms of story, voice acting, and graphical appeal even. No soul whatsoever.

Hect: Don't even get me fucking started. She enraged me to the enth degree, and when she suddenly joined my party i almost stopped playing right then and there. All of her lines drove me nuts, and the way in which the voice actor said them made no sense with the situations, and just sounded like a person reading off a script. Not sure how that got past quality control.

That's all for now, but i'll be back.

I hate her so much. Hect was more fun to have around than her. And that's saying a lot because Hect was annoying as hell throughout the whole game. I share the hate of Emo characters. Life is not that bad.

Gavaya and Sialeeds respectively.

Juppo from Suikoden is a bastard. I don’t know why it took so long to get past that infernal wheel, but by the time I passed it, I wanted to maim something.

Travis from Suikoden 4 made me go through that stupid dungeon twice just to get him. He forced me to play that horrible game longer than I had to.

Bastan from Suikoden 5 was also annoying because I didn’t understand how to recruit him. Next thing you know, I’m assaulting Stormfist and by then, it’s too late to recruit him.

And finally, Lyner Barsett from Ar Tonelico because he’s a dense moron. I would have never put Misha to that much grief and trouble. I would have picked the first ending (after phase 2) and lived happily ever after. I thought it was unforgivable of him to ask Misha to sing at the Crystal Chronicle just to revive Shurelia. (Even though I liked Shurelia as a character)

Exo Apr 24, 2007 08:24 PM

First off, Tidus in FFX. His character design was gay, his voice was whiny, and him bitching about his dad every two minutes got old fast.

Secondly Cloud FFVII. His attitude was shit and I hate how overrated he is.

And last Yuna X-2. She was a prostitute, sounded like a dying cow, and was also just plain annoying. >_>

Xhaos May 9, 2007 05:40 PM

I'd have to say Quina from FFXI. I couldn't stand him/her. They couldn't even tell the gender of Quina. Not good in my book.

Most everybody in Tales of the Abyss save a certain few. I thought they were all idiots.

Last, but not least, Miranda from Legend of Dragoon. I wasn't a fan of the White Dragoon power, and she really does piss me off. But is there any use of her in the story. I would've told them to just stck with Shana and be done with it.

Elegy Jun 10, 2007 08:19 PM

I don't know about "slowly and painfully," but I really disliked Squall quite a bit. The only character I had any affection for from FF8 was Laguna, sadly enough. From what I can remember Dart from Legend of Dragoon got on my nerves a lot as well.
