SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD
http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/a...s-birthday.jpg
Scott Pilgrim (by Bryan Lee O'Malley) is awesome and everyone should read it. Bryan Lee O'Malley is awesome too and he has some other awesome comics as well (like Lost at Sea) Edgar Wright (who is also awesome) is making a movie of Scott Pilgrim and while it has Michael Cera (who is not awesome), it still looks kinda awesome. That looks really fun and awesome. Can't wait.
|
Fuck yes. Do want!
|
Game looks pretty awesome, and I've been meaning to check out the comic since I heard about it recently.
Why the Michael Cera hate? |
He's entirely unfit for Scott, is all. The whiney Tobey Maguire voice he's doing is not Scott at all. Everything else about the film looks fun and Edgar Wright just seems like he gets it.
But yes, read the comic. It's really, really awesome. OP and Boo can testify. |
I looked for it at the book stores around here the other day, but none of them had the first or even second volumes. I'm thinking of tacking it on the next time I order from Amazon.
|
I obviously had to order mine online, so yeah, getting them from amazon is a good idea. Oni press is not a huge publisher, so the availability in stores probably isn't that great. Well, it could be better now that the series has gotten more visibility, but it was at least different back when I started reading it.
Grab Lost at Sea as well, if you don't mind some teen anxiety. |
Barnes & Noble had volumes 3 and up displayed pretty prominently on a table near the graphic novels section, likely because of the upcoming movie. It was only the first two that were nowhere to be found. I'd say they sold out, but I couldn't even find a place for them.
|
So it's basically a playable - not prerendered - Pirate Baby Cabana something something.
I'm OK with that. |

With credit to CAG, you can preorder the game on PS3 from the Ubisoft site for $8.99 (valid in US and Canada only, it seems). Since 1) co-op play is offline only, and 2) MSRP on Live will be $15, there's no reason not to pick it up on PS3 if you have the console. You also get a free PlayStation Home t-shirt, but who cares?
1. Go here. 2. Enter the promo code 10THANKS (all caps or it won't work). 3. Give them your credit card, and they'll give you a download code that will work on August 10 when the game is released. |
No online co-op makes me incredibly sad. This is exactly the kind of game that would be a blast to play online with friends. Still getting it on day one, but god damn.
|
My Scott Pilgrim has super powers.
http://i781.photobucket.com/albums/y...rnip/photo.jpg I love this game, but man is it glitchy. It locked up my PS3 once tonight when I looked at my status, and then a little while later, that happened. I was on a parallel plane to the rest of the game, so I could walk around, but couldn't actually hit any enemies. |
Strange, I haven't had any problems with it. Sometimes it seems to take awhile to open up the menu or exit out of a shop menu, but that's all.
|
I hope someone gets me MS Points for my birthday so I can buy it when it comes out on XBLA on the 25th. I wanna play this game!
|
I just don't see how you can not have co-op in a game like this, in 2010.
|
For anyone who's interested, the lead animator for the game put up a bunch of animated .gifs on his livejournal.
Take a look. Download a .rar folder with all of them |
Saw the movie, loved the movie.
Played the demo, loved the demo. Yeah, this is pretty much day 1 DLC purchase for me when its out on Xbox Live. Its so rare nowadays to have a movie faithful to the original source material AND have a tie in game that is both fun AND faithful to the source as well. |

And for those of you who've unlocked the fifth playable character... well, there's one thing he can do which gives me Descent flashbacks. Hint: Purple Death. On a lighter note: Lynette could've been fodder for a Bionic Commando nod or two. |
I honestly wish they would have made a port for the PSP in some way.
Considering I've only done pc gaming for the last how many so odd years, I'm now kicking myself for not getting an 360 or ps3, but even though I'm loving the looks of this game, there is going to be no forseeable way I'll ever be able to play it ;___; |
It's not that impossible they'd release it on Steam or something, you know.
|
Feh! Online was the main reason I had to get this, I can understand that they removed online because you can die and then literally steal lives from other players making it REALLY easy to grief, but then you just be more sensible who you play with!
Sure I have local friends, but they're mostly not gamers hell just the fact I understand the basics of games intimidates them enough and besides I live in england, a place where your average 'gamer' is mostly interested in war fps games, GTA, fifa and generic wii/farmville rip off games =P |
A friend of mine knows one of the animators, Persona, and according to him the online was planned, but Ubisoft pressured them into cutting it to get the game out in time to coincide with the movie's buzz. Sounds plausible enough to me. After all, these are the people who no longer want to give us manuals with games.
Even without online play this game is more than worth it. It has a great soundtrack, great spritework, and it's fun enough solo. |

Looks like that's not all they cut :gonk: seriously though I will still probably get this game, it's just dropped lower on my list of must haves is all I guess. |

That's what you get when you trust quality control testing to Romania.
I've managed to be relatively glitch-free so far, but it did send my PS3 into infinite pause twice by refusing to load my Kim game. I played a round of zombie survival and that seemed to fix it. The only really irritating thing is how it doesn't recognize PS2 controllers connected via USB. That works with most PS3 games that don't have motion stuff, but no luck with Scott Pilgrim. I ended up buying a used PS3 controller from EB and returning it the next day to play multiplayer. |
Here's a bunch of ingame art if folks want it for signatures or anything... note that this includes, in addition to the two extra characters, a 'boss card' that didn't make it into the game (again, due to time concerns).

What "boss card" are you referring to? I don't see anything there that didn't make it into the game.
Also, according to this dev's blog the 6th character will be DLC that's planned to come out alongside the DVD release of the movie. The blog also talks a lot about planned sections of stages that were cut for various reasons. Noticed that someone posted the boss rush code on PS3Trophies.org as well. Haven't tried it myself, but no one in the thread is saying it doesn't work. Right, Right, O, R1, Right, Right, O, R1 |
Instead of extra characters, they should be working on an online patch.

I'd be happy if they just fixed how fucking broken this thing is. Freezes all over the place.
|
I'd say broken too having the game myself now but for different reasons. It suffers from similar problems to castle crashers which takes away from some of the fun, most of the time you're either underpowered in stats or more a problem overpowered. By the end of the game at full strength you're even kicking most of the bosses asses in the game at hardest difficulty!
It's still a fun game especially on multi but if you go too deep the stats ruin it. Stats are not needed in beatemups, or at least need to be tested a lot to not be game breaking and no publisher lately seems to get this. If I wanted stats to be a constant game factor I'd go play an rpg. |
Heads up: IGN has footage of Knives getting in some wet work; Destructoid has the full details on the upcoming DLC.
|
Can't say I'm impressed from this first footage, she looks like some of the moveset is a sprite edit copy of kims, still long as the price of the character reflects this I can't complain I guess.

However, Ubisoft still has no plans to add online functionality (not cool); they are, however, planning to resurrect a certain sleeper hit (which is)... |
