Death Smiles - Glorious Loli Shoot'em Up Action
This month pretty much has one of my most anticipated games coming out in the next couple of weeks.
That game is: Death Smiles http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...eathsmiles.jpg I can't express in words, how overly excited I am to get this game. There haven't been many shoot'em ups released in quite a while in disc format. As pathetic as this sounds, I specifically bought an X-Box 360 to play this game. Even though I've owned an X-Box 360 for over a month I haven't even opened it up until I own this game. I know for sure, Skills will be getting it because he loves the shoot'em up genre as much as I do. June 29th/2010 is the release date and I have my copy already pre-ordered. They have a limited edition coming out for X-Box 360 which includes the soundtrack cd and a faceplate. Here is some game-play footage:
Anybody else, excited to get this game. |
50 bucks is an awesome price for the LE too. (or 55 CAD, as the case may be.)
I really look forward to this but since I refuse to step into an EB anymore, I've preordered it through amazon.ca. After shipping this probably won't get here for at least a week afterward but that's alright, considering Star Successors is out only two days earlier. Probably the third person getting it will be Taco, for...erm....obvious reasons. Make sure you post your gamertag when you set everything up, Angel. Now that you have a circlebox, pick up Raiden 4 and/or RFA, those english releases are very very welcome. |
That video... lmao, is it safe to say it SOLD me? I'm terrible at shooters but that thing looks just like MAD fun to play!
|
I've never been any good at the "bullet hell" games. Even the so-called "easier" ones like Ikaruga are impossible to me. This looks like a lot of fun though. I thought Halo: Reach was the only Xbox game I'd be picking up while I'm in Korea, but I may need to pick this up as well.
|
This game was pretty good for its time. If anyone's getting this. let this game kill time until Ketsui Death Label comes out. Schmups and Manabu Namiki 4 ever!
|
Glad to hear of a release date. When I get back from the meet, this is SO going on my pre-order list.

Pre-ordered this when I picked up Lost Planet 2. Don't really care for the packaged extras but it's $10 less than the usual and it comes with the DLC stuff already so why not, plus I don't see anyone else even trying to bring Cave's shooters over, I think they deserve the money for that alone. Hope we get some Ketsui as well.
|
Most likely won't work on a PAL 360, so I'll be missing out :(
|
LOL guys. Count us in for the PREORDERED. :D
Reviews say it is the EASIEST and 10 OUT OF 10! LAWL and we're sold. |
I am very good player for every game but I like the game which has nice graphics as well as the game type.I saw this game screen shots of Deathsmiles which are wonderful in look.I would like to play this game and try it in my system.

That's some 90's translation work right there.
|
Don't forget recent DQ games on the DS.
Still lollin at the Scottish accents. |

Am I the only person who thinks most shooters are just "avoid the bullets" games? People make things like that in Flash, jeez.
Maybe it's just because I hate games with tons of kawaii anime characters. |
to be honest avoiding bullets being shot at you tends to be a recurring theme in video games
|
Wait, you AVOID them?
Fuck me. |

See I can oversimplify games to make them sound worse than they are too, let's have a smug sense of superiority together |
To be honest, I don't really like bullet hell games that much. I just like the presentation and setpieces when it's done right. Some of the celshaded DC games looked and felt god awful.
Anyway, Wario Ware uses one button and it's also pretty awesome. |
I mean, bullet hell isn't my cup of tea to play, but I love watching people do that shit on Youtube.
Also Galaga is a fucking awesome game, and it uses one button. |

Has anyone picked this up yet?
Mine hasn't shipped from Amazon, which is fine considering I went with the free shipping option, but no B&Ms seem to have it and even the other amazon shipping options seem to be delayed. Anyone fortunate enough to grab it yet? |

Not even just Canada, I mean. Some people are saying the American release is also a few days behind in some cases. :(
|
Should be getting ours in the mail tomorrow from Amazon at the latest.
|
Got mine in today! :D Sweet box too. Hope everyone get theirs soon. I'm gonna play this quite a bit today.
|
I just got a call from my local eb games late this afternoon. My copy of Death Smiles is in as well as Trinity Universe.
I might be able to pick it up today when my wife gets back from work if its not too late. If I can't get it today, I'll definitely be picking it up tomorrow. |
Picked mine up Wednesday, played it all day yesterday, trying out all 5 characters.
It's definitely one of the harder bullet-hells I've played, having to watch for enemies from both the left and right sides. It's even better when you play the Mega Black Label version and set the level on each stage to 999. The soundtrack, to me, is not as solid as that of ESPGaluda's, but it's still a good one. |
BEST TEXT MESSAGE EVER
(from Philia Re: this game) 2:04pm - Lol it came 3:06pm - And i beat it lol I'm sure that was on MAXIMUM |
You guys might find this article interesting. It talks about critics views on Shmups today and mentions Death Smiles in it, which I have yet to play but sounds sick.
Why are Shmups so Unpopular? Continue? |

Seriously, that guy needs to shut his fucking mouth. His complaint seems to be that not every reviewer knows all the nuances that would make them love shmups. "These games are meant to be played over and over and over and over and over." Yeah, well not everyone enjoys that. "These games are supposed to be unforgivingly cruel and difficult." Okay, well not everyone likes that. This seems like a lot of wankery to me. Are shmups misunderstood? Yep. But so are all genres according to the people who love them. |
