SHINKUUTETSUMAKISEMPUKYAKUU! - Marvel vs Capcom 3, now with more Iron Man

YouTube Video

Chris vs. Hulk is HILARIOUS

Next to nothing is known, supposedly there's an embargo up sometime later this morning. Supposedly PS3/360 and running on some version of the Tatsunoko vs. Capcom engine. Discuss why Capcom is awesome/sucks now.

Edit: Embargo up!:

Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 Will Be a "Living Comic" With A Deep Story - Marvel vs. capcom 3 - Kotaku

Quote:

It's been ten years since the characters of Marvel's comics and Capcom's video games faced off in a fighting title, so 2011's Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds can't come soon enough.

The title, which will likely feature more than 30 characters to choose from and feature 3-on-3 tag team fighting, hits the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 in spring 2011. There currently are no plans for an arcade, computer or Wii version of the title, Capcom tells Kotaku.

"I'm really excited to be here so that I can share this information with you today," Ryota Niitsuma, the game's producer, told a room of journalists gathered last week in Hawaii for the game's unveiling.

Like Capcom's popular Street Fighter IV, Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 will feature 3D characters fighting on a 2D plane, he said. The game won't, however, use the same sort of graphics found in Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV. Instead Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 will run on an "advanced version" of MT Framework, the same engine that powers the graphics of Lost Planet 2 and Resident Evil 5.

"Each version of MT Framework gets better than the previous version," Niitsuma said. "A lot of key staff are involved with this game and they wanted to use the engine they are more comfortable with."

Chris Baker, the manager of licensed games at Marvel Studios, said he was astounded to see the concept art for Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 and said that in action it's just as amazing, calling the title a "beautiful, beautiful game."

Baker pointed out that Wolverine's look in the game hearkens back to the classic look of the beloved character. Iron Man, on the other hand, fits his contemporary look and The Hulk has a new visual style.

The shaders used on each character, Capcom's Seth Killian said, are what really make all of the characters so visually distinct in motion. Even Capcom's Ryu, he pointed out, is brought out in a new way with the help of the shaders.

"You could see him sitting in a comic book frame," Killian said, "and maybe one day you will."

The game will also have an eclectic and robust mix of music, with at least 100 pieces including remixes of favorites from previous Marvel Vs. Capcom games as well as some new music.

"It's all about having a lot of content and things to go with this game," Niitsuma said. "We also want to make sure the music suits the type of game this is."

And the music needs to suit the characters as well, Baker added.

While news of a new version of Marvel Vs. Capcom was highly anticipated leading up to Capcom's annual event last week (Baker said it was one of the questions most often asked of him and the hardest secret he's had to keep since working at the comic company), the presentation was light on details about which characters would make the cut for the game.

The gameplay-free trailer shows that Wolverine, the Hulk, Iron Man, Street Fighter's Ryu, Darkstalker's Morrigan and Resident Evil's Chris Redfield will be in the game. It also hints at the appearance of Captain America, Super Skrull, Chun-Li, Deadpool, Felicia, Dante or Nero, Spencer or Wesker, Mephisto, Rad Spencer and Doctor Doom. The inclusion of Redfield in the game is indicative of the direction the game's developers are headed in terms of Capcom character selection, Killian said.

While the game could certainly support any number of characters, Niitsuma said that time constraints led the team to shoot for a bit more than 30 characters in the game.

While downloadable content for the game, most likely new characters, is certainly possible, no DLC plans have yet been locked in
, said Capcom's Seth Killian.

"There are a couple of different directions they're thinking about," he said.

And unlike previous Marvel Vs. Capcom games, this latest iteration will have a strong storyline.

"It's important that game's have strong stories for Marvel," Baker said. "With fighting games it's not as essential as an action game or role playing game but we are very much insisting there be some cohesive kind of story for this game.

"We actually have a subtitle for the game that means something this time. In the coming months we will be giving you more information about it."

AAAAHHH??!!! =DDDDDDDD

HEHEHE!! YESSSSSSSS

That game is going to be soooo sweeeeeeet. Even if it sucks, I'll love it. It can do no wrong.

LIAR Apr 20, 2010 10:13 AM

I've always enjoyed the MvC games. Hope this one doesn't disappoint.

SailorDaravon Apr 20, 2010 10:19 AM

So it appears to be the oft-rumored "in-between" the insanity of MvC 2, and the slightly more down to Earth TvC. There's apparently a lot of people saying this is developed internally at Capcom as opposed to Dimps (SFIV) and TvC (Eighting) as Capcom doesn't allow anyone outside the company to use MT Framework?

Also already people crying about no Wii version, loooooolin'

Edit: Also apparently Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 was announced at this event, and people already raging over that because you can now jump, I fucking love the internet

Tawnee Van Pelt Apr 20, 2010 10:31 AM

Iron. Man. For. The. Win.

BlindMonk Apr 20, 2010 12:24 PM

Oh. Dear. I, er... oh my.

edit: Far as I'm concerned, though, they could've taken any and all time devoted to this "deep storyline" and donated it to the Fuckton of Characters fund.

WolfDemon Apr 20, 2010 01:18 PM

Wesker would fit in perfectly. He already borrows moves from several Street Fighter characters in Mercenaries on RE5.

Like probably everyone else, I could give a damn about the storyline in a fighting game, but the amount of music they are touting is mildly exciting to me. I'd love to see character themes like in MvC1 make a comeback. Also, I hope they can work out different costumes for the characters, ie. Symbiote Spider-Man, Wesker's S.T.A.R.S. uniform or Code: Veronica outfit, etc.

If they did do alternate costumes, I think it'd be pretty amusing if one for Morrigan would be her old sprite, in keeping with Capcom's tradition of using the same sprite for Morrigan in every game she's ever been in.

Congle line of abuse. Or is that conga-line. Or congaline. Apr 20, 2010 05:22 PM

Hm, I guess this means MvC3's OST will have more than one song on it?

I'm already psyched!

Chaotic Apr 20, 2010 05:32 PM

I'm just curious at this point, now that Chris is in this game, if they're gonna keep Jill as well. It would honestly be pretty silly to remove her when they finally added another character in from her series.

Plus, from what I've seen, her character was pretty well recieved in MvC2.

Single Elbow Apr 21, 2010 05:00 AM

lol MvC3 having a deep story.

Other than that, probably introduce Dante from DMC? Don't see this happening though.

But yeah, keeping tabs on this as it goes along.

Also in this vein: bring back special intro animations for certain face-offs (i.e. Wolverine vs. Sabertooth, Ryu vs. Sagat).

Yes, please. Alternate color schemes are well and good (Blazblue, as I recall, has at least 8-10 for each character), but different (unlockable?) outfits are always welcome. Customization similar to what's promised for Lost Planet 2 wouldn't be turned away, either.

That'd be an amusing nod, but the old sprite never really fit in the newer games. On a related note, I wonder if there's any official info on how tall Rock/Megaman, Roll, etc. are supposed to be - they always seemed too small in MvC2.

Lastly, some characters who I think should be considered for (eventual) inclusion on the roster:
  • Protoman (if Megaman appears);
  • the two leads (their names escape me at present) from Namco X Capcom (whose lack of a Stateside incarnation really has no excuse in my opinion);
  • Bass (maybe w/Treble; again, conditional on appearance of Blue Bomber);
  • Charlie/Nash (and Shadow variant; just for fun really);
  • Carnage (especially if Venom shows up);
  • Longshot (why not?);
  • Deadpool (I can see the special intro for him and Spidey - the two engage in a brief duel of quips)

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Apr 21, 2010 09:29 AM

I am waiting for this game to jump the shark with the announcement of the inclusion of Viewtiful Joe.

Watch. It'll freakin' happen.

NovaX Apr 21, 2010 10:28 AM

I don't understand. Viewtiful Joe is awesome, and he's a pretty decent character in TvC too, I can't really see a downside if he was included in this.

Grail Apr 21, 2010 10:41 AM

Pretty much he means that once Joe is included in the game, that the series will start to go downhill from there because you can't get anymore awesome from anything after Joe is included in it.

FatsDomino Apr 21, 2010 11:00 AM

So are they going to mess with the tag-team fighting hit boxing much or do you think they might go with some sort of weird smash bros story stuff? A mixture? I know not much of the gameplay has been revealed but any takers that they're going to depart from the formula of shit ton of characters tag teaming it if they only have 30 characters in the initial selection?

I think Deadpool was pretty much confirmed by the promo art, along with some obvious ones like Chun-Li, Captain America and Felicia.

At the bottom left, next to Chun-Li. If that's not Deadpool with one of his swords on his back, I'll be amazed.

I think he'd fit in nicely.

No, I mean that in the grand scheme of Capcom characters that could be included, Viewtiful Joe is pretty shit.

Some characters I scratched my head at, like Sonson, Shuma Gorath, Tron Bonne and Ruby Heart, but they turned out to be playable, mostly.

In my opinion, MVC3 absolutely needs Jon Talbain and Dr. Wily. On the Marvel side, I'd love to see Ghost Rider and Kitty Pryde.

Yes, Kitty Pryde. Bitch knows some pretty tight martial arts skills, can walk right through projectiles and opponents, can walk on air, and even carries the Soulsword. Tell me that wouldn't be a pretty cool mix of moves for a character. She'd even have a special tag-in combo with Wolverine. It'd be awesome and you know it.

And Ghost Rider speaks for himself.

evilboris Apr 24, 2010 10:22 AM

If it doesn't have Strider and Jin Saotome, I won't bother playing it.

In fact, if they're going to bring back Strider Hiryu I'd like to see them go for a three-fer and bring in Strider Hien (from Strider 2 and Namco X Capcom) and (since Iron Man and - probably - War Machine are here too) the Boba Fett-analogue Solo.

evilboris Apr 25, 2010 07:22 AM

Or they may as well use GhoStrider. Two characters in one slot!

I guess someone at Capcom was reading this, because it seems there's alternate costumes. Spider-Man apparently has at least three; Symbiote Suit, Iron Spider, and one other one I'm not sure of.

http://files.g4tv.com/ImageDb3/25226...ins-Arthur.jpg

Oh, yeah, Spencer from Bionic Commando is in it, along with Arthur from Ghosts n Goblins. Arthur starts out with armor and loses it after taking a certain amount of damage.

http://files.g4tv.com/ImageDb3/25226...ins-Arthur.jpg

Hopefully they'll add Spencer's original costume. I didn't much care for the new, dreadlocked design. Some gameplay videos here for both of them.

Shortly after Spencer and Arthur were revealed, Magneto and M.O.D.O.K. were announced.

This is pleasing to know, and could apply to another point you make a bit further down...

Arthur was a surprising (and humorous) inclusion... though I suspect some gamers will treat him as a 'gag' character (see: Dan Hibiki) who is nonetheless quite effective in the right hands.

Quote:

Given that this game will have alternate outfits, and the new BC does have the original 'carrot-top' Spencer as an unlockable alternate model, Capcom has no excuse whatsoever for not including it here.

Speaking of Spencer, earlier I'd hoped that the devs wised up and brought back special intro animations for particular face-offs. Well, they have the specific dialogue segments right (listen to the exchange between Spencer and Iron Man).

M.O.D.O.K. came as another surprise; nice to see they're reaching into Marvel's B-list here.

Alright guys, the two new characters have been announced for Marvel Vs. Cacpom 3. One of the characters is way overdue to make his appearance in a capcom fighting game. The marvel character is was totally unexpected I present to you:

Mike Haggar and Phoenix.

Posting this before Skills has a Nerdgasm over Mother Fuckin Mike Haggar.

WolfDemon Feb 11, 2011 11:46 AM

So this is out in a few days. What system is everyone getting it on? I should have it by next weekend, on PS3.

OmagnusPrime Feb 11, 2011 01:33 PM

360 for me, especially since that's the system I have my SFIV TE stick for.

Shenlon Feb 12, 2011 08:39 AM

Getting the special edition on PS3. If anyone gets it day one, would be fun to jump in online for some casuals while we still know nothing.

Single Elbow Feb 13, 2011 05:02 PM

Most likely getting the 360 one myself. PS3 broke (again) so no dice there.

Most of my games are bought on he 360 for the most part, save for some exclusives and other optimal PS3 games.

Dark Nation Feb 13, 2011 11:17 PM

Gonna get it on 360 as well, see you on the battlefield! :D

WolfDemon Feb 14, 2011 07:23 PM

So I just bought myself the MadCatz SFIV Fightstick on Amazon for $50. Are there any glaring differences between the vanilla stick and the super special Tournament Edition stick to justify the latter being $160? That's just an insane price to me, considering I don't play fighting games that much. Even $50 is sort of pushing it for a controller to me, but I always hear how you get better control with one of those than the regular console controller, so I wanted to give it a try.

Shit, I didn't know people from here were going to pick this up, Tails especially surprises me. I may go ahead and crack on buying it then, would be getting it on 360.

iirc the Tournament Edition sticks are using the exact same parts that you find on the arcade cabinets for SFIV ($$$). The Standard Edition does not use those parts, but MarkMan did one hell of a job trying to get it as close as possible to not being total ass difference wise. I remember seeing the design specs for them, shit was bananas.

If you are a person that is into the arcade//tournament scene then it might bother you, otherwise it doesn't really matter as long as it doesn't break. Size, weight, feeling, it matters to some people.

OT - I'm probably gonna get the PS3 version so that I have some games to play on the thing.

SailorDaravon Feb 15, 2011 11:55 AM

Picked it up this morning, game is fucking great. Blew through story mode real quick, and played about 5 or 6 online matches of which I only won one :(. All but one of the others were fairly close though, and I was already picking up stuff from other players. I love Ammy, still haven't played with most of the characters yet. I'm not a big fan of Wesker's moveset honestly. Dante seems really good, but I really need to get his moves down.

WolfDemon Feb 15, 2011 06:36 PM

So there's already some costume packs announced that actually change the character models, as opposed to just the colors. On March 1st, $5 gets you Iron Patriot, Captain Rogers and Classic Thor on the Marvel side, and S.T.A.R.S. outfit Chris, SF1 Ryu and Sparda (Dante's father for the uninitiated, if any) for Capcom. Of course, more will be released later.

Every fiber of my being is telling me I shouldn't buy this, because these could've easily been included on the disc as unlockables, but I'm probably gonna break down and get it anyway. Looking forward to seeing Wesker's and Spencer's costumes. (Come on Rearmed Spencer!)

Chaotic Feb 15, 2011 08:00 PM

It think it's pretty awesome that Capcom is finally paying homage to Street Fighter I. Ryu with red hair makes me lawl though.

SailorDaravon Feb 15, 2011 08:14 PM

Will probably pass on that one, the only one I care about at all there is Dante's, and maaaaaybe Chris.

Capcom has revealed that Jill and Shuma are going to cost $5 each; they also go into detail about what Shadow Mode is.

Starting to think Capcom has been eating too much Subway...

WolfDemon Feb 16, 2011 03:25 AM

Dante's costume is spiffy and all, but I think a Vergil skin would've been a better choice. But then the fans would probably bitch that he's not his own character with his own moveset and stuff. I also feel like the Iron Patriot was a wasted opportunity, considering all the other armors that more people are familiar with. They could've gone with the Modular Armor from the previous game, or even the goofy looking Mk V Armor.

Single Elbow Feb 16, 2011 03:41 AM

Fuck, my hands are tired.

Main team consists of Dante, Thor and Wolverine. Just started an hour ago. So much to learn~!

Shenlon Feb 16, 2011 12:56 PM

Played it yesterday on arrival. It's actually easier to learn than the previous games. I actually did as I promised, I jumped online with a few friends without knowing anything about the mechanics. Lost two matches until I got a handle of things. Zero so far is the easiest to pick up. He doesn't have a huge move set like dante so it's not overwhelming.
I was pulling off random air tags which was freaking awesome. Don't know how I did them, I'm guessing it's Down, Forward, Special?

The special edition feels like a waste now since jill and shuma have been delayed until the 15th of march. I'm still getting them for free but I thought the whole point of the thing was to have them a bit earlier. Especially since their already on the damn disc.

Theres also a rumor going around that Frank and Doc Oc are future DLC characters.

SailorDaravon Feb 21, 2011 12:10 AM

Loving the game, getting way more into it than other fighting games I've played in the past. Starting to click for me a bit, when I watch tourney-level players do stuff I can actually understand what they're doing and how, even if it's a bit beyond me. Online has still been hit or miss, I've had some close matches but a lot of the time either I completely dominate someone, or alternatively I get completely destroyed.

I've still only seriously looked into maybe about 30-40% of the cast, but I'm definitely feeling pretty good about having Ammy and Chun-li in my main team. I haven't played enough online to run into the apparently rampant Sentinel spam, but for Sentinel and any other characters that people spam projectiles with, Ammy's Ice Shot tends to put a good stop to that, especially against Sentinel since Ammy's so low to the ground. Right now my main problem is that if Ammy gets taken out and they're spamming full screen projectiles it's hard to counter. Chun-li's double jump/dash works fairly well but good players can stop that, and Trish's projectile is a bit slower than most others. I like Trish, but after doing some actual investigation work into Wesker's full moveset (which I previously didn't realize how it worked) I'm thinking he might be a good replacement for Trish on my A team, since his teleport is super crazy and easy, and is also well supplemented with his regular pistol shot (which is just a regular H attack). Plus he has a really easy OTG attack, and his HP and strength are both at the higher end of the game's cast.

Only other thing I've noticed online is that it seems like people have practiced very specific dial-a-combos (which I have too), but that they don't seem to know or do anything outside of that. I played a guy where he did an insane combo right off the bat leading with Zero at the start of the match that almost outright killed my first character, but I was able to come back and wreck Zero, and then he was complete garbage outside of that and I beat him with two characters at about full health and my 3rd at about half.

Also another aside, the strategy guide for this is crazy impressive. I normally wouldn't buy a guide for a fighting game, but this one is super well done (written by tourney players, ~400 pages) and covers every character in ridiculous detail (down to frame data for every move, etc) as well as general strategies, how you would want to play them, good supporting assists for that character, specific combos up to super crazy advanced combos, etc. It's probably the first fighting game guide I've ever seen where it actually is making a direct improvement to my game in fairly short order. Quality-wise it's probably the best strategy guide I've ever owned outside of the crazy Bayonetta CE guide and maybe one or two others.

Some good Wesker play:

YouTube Video

WolfDemon Feb 21, 2011 09:47 AM

As much as I hear about Sentinel spam, I've not seen him in a single match yet. But Jesus Christ, Dante is the new Ken, I swear. I haven't been in one game where someone didn't use him. As a matter of fact, just about every team I've seen online has been a combination of Dante, Ryu/Akuma (I count them as one because they're essentially the same), Deadpool, Zero, Amaterasu, and Iron Man. Getting the trophy for fighting every character online will be impossible without boosting, because no one will use anyone else.

That said, I've been enjoying the game a lot. I lose quite a bit online because I can't seem to block anything or get around projectile spam, but I can pull a victory or two out of my ass once in a while. I can't wait for my arcade pad to get here; I think it'll improve my game, at least a little bit. I find it difficult pulling off certain moves and combos due to struggling with the normal controller.

Shenlon Feb 21, 2011 10:16 AM

I'm guessing it's because we're on the ps3 that we get so many dante's. I fucking hate him, the person playing him may as well be playing on easy mode because it's the same moves over and over again. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure he's good once he's picked up right but day 1 dante is annoying.

My main team is zero, since he was easy to pick up in day one as I mentioned before. Superskrull, because he has some easy moves to pull off into super but I'll swap him out soon I think. And Hulk because he's a fucking powerhouse, people forget he has some shield and he has a good assist with gamma wave.
I've only played online in player matches with people around the same skill (according to their ranking) and I've been able to beat the majority of them so I may hit up some ranked matches soon.
Only time I lost is with the spamming characters. Ammy throws those damn beads like there's no tomorrow which really pissed me off, dante players teleport all over the place not knowing what the fuck they're doing but still get those supers off on me, and those are the cheapest ones I've seen so far.
I played an iron man spamming the proton beam but it doesn't have recovery like Ammy's beads so it's easy to get around it.

I've actually tried avoiding the more popular characters, sentinel, dante, wesker, i'm not going to learn them until i need to.
Also, why is pheonix so fucking weak! I fought someone who had her as the first fighter, one Zero combo later, she's dead. ONE!

Dark Nation Feb 21, 2011 11:48 AM

Phoenix is a glass cannon I've figured out, since she can also resurrect as 'Dark' Phoenix using a Super. I seriously hate her though, because the AI in the Arcade mode LOVES to spam her moves like there's no tomorrow, she gave me as much trouble as the second to last fight of Wesker & Doom. Plus Zero is kind of the same: Powerful offense, but weak shielding.

So far I've been doing pretty well with Dante (lol), Zero, Haggar (Much to my own surprise) and X-23. Despite being one of my favorite characters, I just can't click with Spider-Man like I could in the last game, its like they made his rotation more obtuse or something.

Now I just need to get some sort of Arcade Stick or at least better then default controller :(

When she turns into Dark Phoenix you will instantly die, assuming the player is good, unless you are able to hit her with some type of super armored attack. Or something.

As far as Sentinel shit goes, some of the top ranked players on PS3 and 360 use Sentinel in their team, just spamming spit all day long with Doom's missiles assist. 90% of the players they fight can't get around it anyway because by searching for Any Rank they will fight people who have never played a match or people who do the same strategies that they do. I was looking for streams and I saw a guy do nothing but ranked from 0-0 to 446-62 in like, three days just using Sent/Doom/Random. He went from no rank to like.. 4th or 3rd highest rank on 360. Whenever he lost he would block and report the person for cheating. Apparently Hsien-ko is some cheap super saiyan goku shit.

My hands need a rest from the game for a little bit, I got everything but 320 missions (not that hard for most of the cast but I'm just lazy) and the other two ranked related trophies.

I'm waiting for my guide to come in so I can use it to help decide on a team. All the offline grinding I did helped me pick a main but I don't want to lame out with the assists. Though for the most part I can do Random All and have fun with it.

Played a dozen games online, every team has Dante Sentinel and Deadpool.

It kinda sickens me that LAST MONTH a vote was taken at GameStop and Deadpool was voted the "number one all time favorite MvC character" when he wasn't even in a fucking game yet.

My old team is out, so right now I'm feeling a little cheaty but secure using Thor, Dormammu, and Dr. Doom.

Dormammu is the best character that nobody is using. Try his back-ult and see how much damage it tears through. He's got that black hole which is almost instant cast and otherwise he sorta reminds me of my old Captain Commando.

Playing on PS3.

Go to your nearest Best Buy and look for this $30 Tekken 6 Limited Edition bundle. You get the game plus a really good wireless stick, originally $150, for $30.

I need to go to Best Buy and get a price adjustment, I just picked this up for $60 last week.

SailorDaravon Feb 21, 2011 06:24 PM

I saw that stick deal on CAG a little while ago, was going to bite (my llocal store supposedly has it but that's been wrong before) but I think I may pass now. That's a crazy deal for a stick though, even if it's not top tier.

A much better choice, especially if you screw around Mission Mode. Tried with default and was cramping all around.

I switched Thor with X-23, but still have Dante and Wolvie. I'll modify it more since X and Wolvie and pretty much similar. My second team comprises of She-Hulk, Super-Skrull and probably X-23.

Still experimenting with characters, yeah.

Also Phoenix indeed a glass cannon, esp. when she turns into Dark Phoenix. Gotta rack up the hits so she can use Healing Shield though.

Dark Nation Feb 21, 2011 07:05 PM

It WOULD have to be Best Buy that has the deal.

So since the Arcade Stick is unavailable for shipping online I had to call about 3-4 different stores to see if they had the item in stock, as the rest of the Best Buys in this state didn't even have it. Finally found one that has 3 (!) way across town =\

Fuck, even with a deal that store manages to piss me off

--Edit--
Okay so mission successful, 32 bucks and change after Tax. Thanks for the tip :cow: !

--Edit 2--
The Stick's buttons feel solid, although the stick itself is a bit looser, so some of those missions still evade me. In addition to the game the box also came with a nice Artbook.

SailorDaravon Feb 21, 2011 07:44 PM

Went out of my way to hit Best Buy, of course they don't have it, figures. Not a big deal, but a wasted trip.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Feb 22, 2011 03:16 PM

I'd bite for that price. In Canada it's up for 50 on BB's website but similarly sold out everywhere. Both stores in Winnipeg are listed as fuck all. Figures.

Managed to find the SE locally at a fucking Blockbuster, of all places. Walmart didn't get any, Futureshop totally got fucked over, EB got a couple but sold out....and yet Blockbuster had several behind the glass. Go figure.

Tails Feb 22, 2011 03:34 PM

Because nobody goes to Blockbuster.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Feb 22, 2011 03:37 PM

Indeed.

How they aren't bankrupt in this country blows my mind a little bit.

SailorDaravon Feb 22, 2011 04:42 PM

Glad that you found one, I actually looked for one last night while I was out for you but didn't see any.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Feb 23, 2011 07:39 PM

Yeah, the matchmaking is complete garbage, it's embarrassing. After 6 failed searches in a row you get paired with some laggy sentinel spam. Haven't had this much trouble connecting to a match since the original Call of Menu. Awesome, I guess?

Otherwise the game is not bad.

SailorDaravon Feb 23, 2011 10:37 PM

I already mentioned this, but turn Fight Request on in either Arcade or Training (which I didn't realize you could do in Training at first). You can even specify if you want Player Match or Ranked Matches. Sometimes I don't seem to get anything, but most of the time I'll get a match within a minute. Except for one time where a match lagged out I really haven't had any lag at all in matches. The connecting to matches/players in the first place through the normal menu is dogshit, which makes it all the more weird that in-match it seems to be fine for most people, and Fight Request works with no issues.

They've already said that they're working on a patch, but at this point I'd almost rather have these workarounds and have Spectator mode put in more than anything. Or at least allow multiple fights to be occurring in the same lobby, or something.

Funny story about that. I used to live on the far west side of town (as opposed to the northwest side now) and there was a Blockbuster a mile up from my place. Me and my brother went there frequently for game rentals and the occasional movie too. One time we were short about 15 cents or so and the asshat who was working the shift wouldn't cut us any slack. Subsequently, we went to Hollywood Video after that even though it was farther away... which is also out of business now :tpg:

As the stick itself goes, I also justified the purchase because I have multiple games with which to use it with (Tekken 6, BlazBlue, MVC2 on Live Arcade, and this game-- thought about picking up Soul Calibur 4 sometime, but meh).

Haven't actually been able to use it much since I got it, due to some house cleanup, but it performs pretty well so far. Got me a bit farther on the character missions at the very least. You guys up for some matches later instead of the random search bullshit?

Paco Feb 24, 2011 01:12 PM

So one of my students bought this and brought it in yesterday. Basically, we're fucking HOOKED. I'm buying this game as soon as I get paid next week.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Feb 25, 2011 05:09 PM

Well, that's fabulous. I just lost 14 matches in a row because the game seems to think "search for same rank" means "find people who are 10 ranks ahead of you with 180-8 records" to fight against. Wish that was an exaggeration. :(

I didn't get anyone who was less than 4th Lord for the hour I was spending playing Ranked. This was through fight request, since regular search doesn't find shit, still.

Now I know what it's like to be Mo0. :(

map car man words telling me to do things Feb 25, 2011 05:20 PM

You ate your fridge empty while waiting for the match to connect?

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Feb 25, 2011 05:47 PM

No.

I ate the actual fridge.

SailorDaravon Feb 26, 2011 12:01 AM

Before anyone gets excited, the title update today apparently just adds the hooks in-game for the upcoming Shadow Mode DLC that no one cares about and is ridiculous that they're going to charge for anywhere.

Dark Nation Feb 26, 2011 12:16 AM

Neat-sounding Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Shadow mode detailed- Destructoid

I'm guessing this is Training-For-Tournament-Players under a snappier name.

That sucks. Ps3 players apparently haven't been playing hardcore because I jumped in ranked matches for the first time yesterday and easily found people in the same rankings (beginner) as me and was able to obtain the 5 wins in a row trophy. Only reason I've lost so far is because of time out.
I've noticed that I have more chances of playing a laggy match in ranked matches than in player matches for some reason and also 100% of players are picking Dante. It's fucking annoying. I've only fought one person who actually knew real combos and I didn't mind losing to that but so far everyone else does random supers at the start of the match.
