Super RYU vs. KEN IV - They're still adding characters other than Ken?
Well now this is interesting, and I'm not entirely sure whether or not I'm down with this:
Quote:
This is really going to depend on what they add, how different it actually feels and what they price it at, but I don't really want to be taken for a ride by Capcom, as much as I loved SFIV. Will be tempting though. Gamespot have a bit of a hands on and write up: Super Street Fighter IV Impressions |
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
I mean really, is anyone surprised Capcom is up to its old tricks again? |
Can't wait for Super Street Fighter IV TURBO.
|
Amusingly if we go to Super HD down the road we could one day end up with "Super Street Fighter IV Turbo Super HD Remix". :p
A little more info: Quote:

lol at Hakan's description.
Really CAPCOM? Really? |
That the idea of bringing back T. Hawk got any traction at all is more than enough proof that Capcom and Cultural Sensitivity still haven't met. Nor should they; ridiculous cultural stereotypes are a crucial part of the Street Fighter experience. Where would we be without Peaceful Indian Who Loves Curry or Macho American Army Guy? I welcome with open arms the return of Englishman Who Is Extremely Refined and Native American Who Literally Wears War Paint And Feathers All The Time. Arab Who Loves The Fuck Out Of Some Oil fits in perfectly.

I still laughed, but alright.

Games like this just seem so unnecessary in this age of DLC. I probably would have been willing to pay up to $20 if this was just DLC, but as another standalone game I doubt I'll ever buy it unless I happen to find it for really cheap (because I doubt their definition of budget price will be anything less than $40).
|
I would have gladly paid for this if it was DLC even if it did take a huge chunk of hard drive but I'm not willing to pay for the same game twice just for a few characters.
I'll wait a year for a price drop if I'm still interested. |
Since they haven't announced a price yet how can you really say if you'd gladly pay for it or not? Sure if they were saying it was going to be full price, but they're not. They've already said it'll be budget priced, so why not wait and see. This could be iffy, but until all the details are announced I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.
|
Christ, you people.
"I would buy it if it were DLC! But since it's a physical object in a box, I reject it with hatred and venom." |
Seems to me that people are more irritated at it being a product completely separate from the original. Given that it's got more substance than the game's fist iteration and it costs less, what's the issue? Is it that people who didn't buy the first version of SFIV now have the opportunity to pick up a cheaper, better version, and somewhere deep down, those who bought the original version of the game feel deeply wronged and betrayed at being stung for being an early adopter?
|
Meanwhile, I can't wait to buy Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 FES (whenever that comes out oh I hope I hope). And God of War Collection is here soon as well!
|
Oh yes, but this means DOUBLE THE ACHIEVEMENT POINTS for said early adopters.
Like such things actually matter. says the guy with an achievement tracking site thing in his sig. |

that's an interesting perspective, try it down at your local Gamestop
"I should get this for the used game price" "Why?" "Because it's very similar to a game I already have!" |
There was a reason I waited to buy SF4, and now I'm glad I did!
It would be nice to be able to brawl with SF4 owners even if you're playing SSF4. Not that I really clamor for the online element, but it would be a nice bonus. |
Quote:
I'm not sure where you're going with this. |
I bet everyone complaining about this owns no less than four versions of Street Fighter II.
|
Less than full price!
$55 on consoles $45 on PC Take note, BlazBlue. |

I mean they'd be idiots not to, but I've learned not to get my hopes up on these things. |
Capcom's ported every one of their recent games to PC, I see no indication this will be an exception.
|
I can't believe they added T.Hawk. That alone all but guarantees I will hate the shit out of it.
|
No Dee-Jay, no money, Capcom. F* this rumor shit, you better confirm his ass. Also, air blocking, especially if you're throwing Air Ultras in there.
That being said, this does seem fairly stupid as a standalone title in this day and age. Unless the new moves/characters completely break (the somewhat already broken) gameplay, I don't see anyone who owns both games still playing normal SFIV anymore. PS: Juri sounds suspiciously like hot Cammy clones Juli and Juni. More Cammy is not a bad thing by any means. Knowing Capcom though, it'll just be another Shoto. PS2: Didn't Capcom already swear when this came out that they weren't going to do the incremental revision thing with SFIV? PS3: It's an excellent Blu-Ray player. |

http://www.fightersgeneration.com/np2/thawk-djay.jpg And shit, if they have a power trade offer to go and trade in the original to buy a more improved version of the game, then I'm all over that. |
Well, I was going simply by the opening post here, as well as the Gamespot article, in which only Juri and lolHawk were confirmed characters, but anyway, yeah, cool beans.
|
I kinda feel that this was to be expected, given the amount of revisions previous Street Fighter entries have been given. I, for one, am an avid Street Fighter fan and can't wait til it comes out. I hope they add bonus stages with updated graphics or new versions of classic stages. Am I the only one who misses beating the crap out of a Lexus?
|
Yeah, that reminds me. I hope they actually allow you to fight to the remixed versions of old themes, instead of only during the rival matches in story mode (and sometimes in the Live lobby). Ken's, Cammy's, and some of the Ryu themes are pretty decent. I also miss having specific stages for each character, but I guess most fighting games haven't really done that in a long time anyway.
|
Guy? GUY!? You bastards. Now I have to buy it.
Also with the inclusion of both Guy and Cody (again), when the fuck is Capcom going to just go ahead and make Mike Haggar a god damned SFIV character. I don't care if he plays just like the 'Gief, HE'S A PILEDRIVING MAYOR. I complain about buying it now, but I bought ODST so I'm obviously not adverse to buying stand alone add-ons (am i rite lol) |
I'm sure some of you have heard, but three more of the new characters for SSFIV have been announced, and as expect it's Guy, Cody and Adon. Check them out, albeit briefly, in this new trailer:

Where the hell is my Ibuki
I do not care for even more grinning, sweaty, topless men! |

Yeah, I know they've been talking about how Ibuki and Dudley will be in, but CONFIRMATIONS

I NEED IBUKI CONFIRMATIONS AS WELL T___________T...
Juri and Guy won't satisfy me >__>! |

Why any of you are rooting for Ibuki over Makoto is completely beyond me. YOU ARE ALL TERRIBLE PEOPLE |
Can I get some Elena confirmation up in this bitch.

Out of Makoto, Ibuki and Dudley I would say Ibuki has the highest chance to be included, not only is there a kunai in those new scans, but don't forget Fei Longs ending on the arcade mode.
I know the endings are pretty random, but a meaningless kunai would be random even by their standards, that kid in Balrogs ending was clearly a reference to new character Juri (not that it was her as a child, they must have been part of the same experiment perhaps?) so with the whole kunai thing it's pretty obvious... An interesting rumour about SSFIV is floating around this Internet at the moment. Seems like Famitsu did some live streaming event where they were playing SSFIV and someone spotted this menu screen (I'm posting the annotated version which has character names written on):
http://www.opimage.co.uk/u/OmagnusPr...ter-Select.jpg This screen shows the original SFIV cast, plus the six currently announced additions (Juri, Dee Jay, T.Hawk, Cody, Guy and Adon) plus spaces for an additional four characters. Originally it was suggest that they'd be adding 8 new characters to the roster, but seems like it might be 10 in the end. Capcom haven't confirmed anything yet, but it's looking good. Sources: [ Joystiq (with stream video) | G4TV ] |
Those 3 slots look perfect for Ibuki, Dudley and Makoto, but with Capcom lately you can't know for sure until it happens. I just hope they don't bring out some shit like Shin Seth, I'm annoyed enough already that they had a mugen moment and decided to make a member of their staff into the game as the boss. All things considered, if this sequel is better balenced then the first I suppose I can let everything else off.
I went to neo empires xmas fighting game event on this Sunday and good times were had! I even heard one of the organisers had a beta copy of SSF4 but we never got to see it sadly. Anywho here's some of the better new screenies from the fighters generation website (added spoiler tags to hopefully save bandwidth or something) Spoiler:

Ahahahaha, Mecha Zangief looks awesome now.
And that's some ulltra Dhalsim has. Yoga Driller~ |
Oh hell yes. Provided they stick to their plan of releasing this as a cheaper title I am 100% sold.
|

I'm guessing since they showcased the costumes in the trailers they'll be included for free in the final version. |

I read this via x360a this morning, and I thought it was a dream. Then, I looked further into it at work, and saw more confirmations, and I scared the crap out of a couple co-workers (who had absolutely no idea why I was so happy) when I yelled for joy that Makoto was on the list.
|
New trailer, and an obvious confirmation of the last character to be revealed. |
Well, from the looks of it, they ditched her Abare Tosanami super, which, in my mind, was definitely better in most cases than the Godansuki (the punch combo super), but then again, they pretty much did away with any supers that let you combo right after for every character, and this is her Ultra, not a super.
Tenden Renki's gonna be a slightly cheap-ass super to go with. In 3rd Strike, it enhanced your damage quite well, so I really don't see much changing with it in this one. |
Ibuki AND Makoto. i am gonna die.
|
I take back my earlier statement. It's in, it's powerful, it's awesome. |
So uh, Hakan being "obsessed with oil" wasn't quite what I thought it was. |
Just when I think Capcom can't get weirder they do, I was thinking the same as you Pang until now that is.
|
Honestly, he's still not as bizarre as Rufus.
|
Is the game even out yet for you guys? Because there seems to be a shit ton of ingame footage already from people trying combos and the game endings etc.

I'm picking up my copy today and we'll probably be playing at the school today. Does Rotor still play online? I haven't been on Live in like two weeks but I'm knocking out some time for that tonight.
|
Rotor still plays. I'll be on later as well.
|
I tried out Guy for an hour and went to a small tourney to get my ass handed to me. No surprise there. Apparently everyone there had the game for around a week or more, not sure how but I have a few guesses.
Anyways, if anyone wants to fuck around with the new characters on the PS3 version then hit me up. |
Oh Ibuki, <33333
I ended up playing for a couple hours, only to get myself destroyed. I think I shall try the trials and figure out what can be a combo and what cannot. Shenlon, whats your PSN? I'll add you later if you're up for some matches? |
My PSN is AniZeke.
Since we can have a lobby of eight people this time around an endless battle sounds like fun if we could arrange it with a few other psn players. I have yet to play online so it would be good for casual matches. |
I was on for a little while hoping someone on my friends list would get on and then my brother-in-law and I just started wailing through the game. 4 hours later, I just want to get sleep because my eyes actually hurt. Does anyone want to play tomorrow or Friday sometime?
|

Couple of friends of mine have pirated this which annoys me they always seem several steps ahead of me on street fighter x.x and my 360 copy should be arriving tomorrow, but I'm going nowhere near random people online matches until I have some idea of the new characters quirks.
BTW how many people on GFF use joystick to play this? I made a custom joystick but to be honest the main thing using that seems to have achieved is improve my fightpad inputs. |

Im learning how to use the joystick! It's a very very painful process.
After raging with multiple failed attempts to do a High Jump, Kunai with Ibuki on the stick, I tried it with the controller (Analog) and got it in one go. I must perservere...joystick has good benefits in the long run... Add me if you can you guys, dobbbss is my PSN tag (Shenlon, I'll add you when I get home from work!) |
Don't worry dobby, I am learning stick as well so we'll be on equal grounds. The hardest challenge for me is pulling off an uppercut/launcher and canceling into ultra from the left side of the screen.
|
I'll be picking this up for PS3 later today. PSN name is xMcFisticuffsx if anyone is down. I'm okay at fighters, but advanced shit like reading frame data and hitboxes is completely lost on me.
|
If your learning a stick, honestly one of the best things you can do is just practice dp and fireball motions in training mode as much as possible. At first it wont seem like it helps when in actual fights but it will pay off. You kinda want to ingrain it into muscle memory so it comes naturally.
|
I got my copy for the 360 the other day so I should start appearing on this weekend if anyone is going to be around for playing. Been a while so I imagine I'll be very rusty to start off with. Looking forward to getting back into it though and trying out the new characters.
|
Okay, so either I really fucking suck at fighting games, or the CPU in this game can learn your playing style and counter everything you do instantly. It makes no sense. I beat it on medium with probably five characters with no problems, even mowing down Seth with ease. Now I can't get more than a few fights in.
It seems like anything I do is immediately countered or blocked. Meanwhile, I can't block anything at all. And anytime I actually connect with something, the CPU somehow hits me at the same time with something I can't even see and we both get knocked back, but I've taken more damage. What the hell. I'm also having lots of problems getting through the trials. Once you get past the special moves and it has you practicing combos, for some reason I just can't pull them off. For example, one of them is two crouching punches and a standing kick or something like that. I guess my timing is off or something, because I can never get that second punch to count. Playing on a DualShock makes it a bit difficult, too, since the buttons all spread out and it's hard to do anything without randomly doing a qcf or something you weren't trying to do and it makes you do a special move and leaves you open. Especially when I try to play as Makoto, she'll start thrusting her fist in the air in the middle of my attack and then I get a Shoryuken to the face. I really want an arcade stick, but they're just so expensive. |
Links are a bitch and even when you do them you'll hate it. You can't use them consistently online either because of lag.
|
I'm actually having a lot of fun with Hakan. Was able to get a few string of wins in endless battle but after a while people see his tricks and can take me down easy until I change up my game again. His grabs are nothing but luck though. Online his anti air grab is kinda crap, it chooses to gab whenever it feels like it. I've had hakan touch the character in the air but not actually grab, same goes for his super.
I'm the only hakan I've seen online, so win or lose, it's pretty funny getting that ultra 2 on people. |
Still can't believe the range on that Super. I was at least halfway across the screen, but Hakan was like "Ain't no thang" and cleared that shit. Insane.
|
You were jumping away so it was easily half screen but because you kicked it was probably a bit more. It has crazy range but to get a legit catch requires some accuracy. Not sure if it was other peoples connection or maybe I was off but it got harder and harder to pull it off. It is most definitely an anti air tho, using it any other way is a most definite punish.
I'll send an invite again if I see ya online, I want to keep trying the new characters =p |
So I think I've found a new favorite character in Dudley. He's everything I like about Balrog without the unfortunate downside of being Balrog.
|
T-Hawk is damn near un-fucking-stoppable at times. It's utterly frustrating to get straight clocked out of a combo run by some guy spamming the hunter dive but, to be fair, I'm a lot like that with Bison and the foot stomp/air dive punch/throw attempt so it's merely frustrating to have someone reverse that shit on you.
|
I've add some of you guys, my ID is: TawneeSaurus for anyone who would like a match.
|
Weird how this 'budget game' seems to be making up their losses in profits with dlc costume packs =P
The fans should be insulted by this marketing, if they were going to pull this shit it should have been unlockables from day 1 like tekken 6, hell the codes, textures etc are already even on the disc, it's just locked. I mean come on Ryu in a frecking bandana... it doesn't get much more out of character and bling then that unless you put him wearing gold chains and rings -_- I remember them saying early on that they wouldn't give certain players special perks in the form of extra characters. So if the new characters on the way arn't going to be free either, I think I'm out and you should all be too, because that would make Capcom a bunch of liars when it comes to this franchise. |
It's Yun & Yang, man. If you're seriously mad about maybe missing out on those guys then I don't know what to tell you.
Additional Spam: Last characters I would get mad about being left out, ever. Tryin' hard to think of a character I want to play less, can't do it |
I'm not mad so much about missing out on characters, I'm more mad that capcom could be doing the old buissness trick of going back on their word if they charge money for them and no-one else seems to be noticing this.
|
Sean?
|
Well I remember in an interview they mentioned that they don't want to give anyone an advantage by adding characters which you have to purchase so if yun and yang are released on consoles and it isn't free then I guess they should just keep their mouth shut for future reference.
Then again this is capcom, they make you pay for stuff that's already on the disc, they've done it with pretty much every game they can get away with. I remember when namco sold add ons already in the disc of soul calibur IV and people complained about it. Capcom does it with a passion now and everyone just forgets. I was never a fan of yun or yang in SF3, I would have rather seen Rolento. |
