Battlefield 2

Hello all! I'm interested in who on the forum's play this game. I already know a few that do but it'd be nice to go into a server with a slew of GFFers and totally dominate.

Also, if your a regular player, feel free to post your current BF2 profile, rank, and favorite/most played kit. Krazy Taco has also brought this site to my attention http://bf2s.com/. I urge you to post your official profile too for interest sake. Mine are -

Profile: WanderingJin - http://bf2s.com/player/WanderingJin/
Rank: Gunnery Sergeant
Kit: Medic

I'm currently at approximately 15,000 points. Only 5,000 more untill I get my First Sergeant rank up (that is if I get all my basic infantry badges in time).

This is of course also a place to share exciting battle stories and other BF2 related conversation's.

If the thread actually grows large I'll start editing this first post with the username and current rank of our fellow soldier's.

If enough GFF'ers start playing I could probably jump back in. I used to play BF:2 regularly. Im currently a gunnery sergeant and have all my basic infantry badges, also a couple medals. I play best as a support role, my aim is atrocious so fighting isn't really my thing.

Man, I love BF2. It'd be fun to play with others. Here's my info:

Profile: Fuzzy FreelanceWolf
Rank: Sargeant
Kit: Support, Assault

Skexis Mar 2, 2006 10:04 PM

I started playing during the christmas break and I haven't really been able to put it down since. I started out hating it so much, but it really just took me a while to adjust to the vehicles, and play it more like reality (i.e. not trying to gun down everything I see, knowing when to run away, etc.).

I've just started getting good at chopper flying, and I'm great at combating other choppers and clearing out a bunch of ground soldiers, but not so much against planes and setting up my gunner for ground assault (like stingers and tanks).

Profile: Skexis
Rank: Gunnery Sergeant
Fav class: My favorite is Medic, but my best for combat is Anti-tank, so I use it as a fallback. I've also started getting pretty good at Engineer now that I have both unlocks for it. The only class I can't do at all is Sniper.

Without trying to sound self-absorbed, I'm also really good at commander, as long as I get squads that pay attention to my spotting, and follow orders when I tell them to repair the tactical points like radar and arty.

I usually play at these servers:
Axxium 70.86.37.147 (I personally get really tired of wake island, especially with a 32 person max, but my friends all play here)
Texangirlz 70.86.74.28

I'm always willing to play somewhere else, as long as I can get a decent enough ping (70 or less).

By the way, has anyone else had problems with the VOIP not working correctly? I set it up and everything, but it doesn't seem to work for me.

StarmanDX Mar 2, 2006 10:49 PM

I just started playing a few days ago, and man am I already addicted.

Profile: AxelrodGunnarson
Rank: Corporal
Kit: Spec Ops, Engineer

We seriously all need to get on a server and form a GFF squad.

Jinn Mar 2, 2006 11:23 PM

GFF squad representin'! It would be really fun. If people keep on posting then theres a good chance we'll have at least a good 6 person squad to play with.

I also wanted to say that if you have Xfire check out Starman's thread to add people who play BF2. I could also put people's Xfire profiles by their BF2 profile and rank.

Freelance Mar 2, 2006 11:54 PM

Ahh, do any of you have Special Forces? It'd be nice to know who has it so we can set up nice servers accordingly. Gotta love Iron Gator, yo.

I used to be an exclusive Assault player ever since the demo came out, and I fell in love with the awesome F2000 once I unlocked it. Great for long distance shooting.

However, ever since the newest patch just came out, I found myself unable to hit crap with the F2000 (why have you forsaken me?!), and I don't know why. I just wasn't good with it anymore. I tried using the Support kit and fell in love with it, so I'm exclusively Support now. However, I still go to Assault now and then, and I am finding myself getting back into the groove with the F2K.

My favourite maps are all the urban ones, Dragon Valley, Gulf of Oman, and Iron Gator. I really hate Kubra Dam and Daqing Oilfields. I'm not too fond of Zatar Wetlands either. All the other maps I didn't mention are merely okay.

Jinn Mar 3, 2006 12:08 AM

Ha, I thought I was forgetting something. Yeah, please state if you have Special Forces. That will be another thing I'll be adding next to Profiles and such.

As for the patch, as a medic it's been pretty nice considering you can throw your medic packs far as hell. I have noticed a lot of problems in the patch besides that though. Not only that but they've been delaying Euro Forces way too much. I wish they wouldn't keep saying they're going to release it, then coming back and telling us it's not ready yet. I understand they want it to work well, but come on! Quit teasing us!

Yeah, they basically nerfed it too much. Not only was the blast radius reduced, but if you'll notice, there's now a kind of "arming time" on the GL, so if you're less than a certain distance away, it will just bounce off the surface until it hits something else.

They made it buggy, though, and occasionally it will explode closer, so if you shoot it at your feet, sometimes you'll die and sometimes you won't.

I have special forces too. I love Warlord, Sharqi, Daqing, Dalian, Mashtuur and the Airfield level, but I'm kinda indifferent towards the rest. I did like iron gator, but then I started getting frustrated with the constant back and forth on the points.

I think Special Forces has suffered the most with the patch, though. The Red Bug seems to surface more often for me in there, and I have to cut down the graphics just to be able to play it without slideshow. My friend also says that there are some levels that have been causing a crash bug, so that's just icing on the EA shitcake.

By the way, if any of you guys haven't seen this yet, here's all the stats behind the game: http://ubar.bf2s.com/

Kamui Mar 3, 2006 09:48 AM

Here's my link: http://bf2s.com/player/64617228/

Name: Waenn
Rank: Sergeant
Kit: Support, Anti-Tank, Medic

Don't own yet the Special Forces expansion. I like maps that are heavily into infantry fights such as Karkand. I used to play Anti-Tank a lot snce blowing up Armored Vehicle was such a blast but I find myself being more efficient in cutting enemy troops with the PKM. Nothing better than pinning down the enemy :P

Would love to play with some GFF people and mics. The game is such an awesome experience when payed with a squad that acts together and communicate.

Thalin Mar 3, 2006 10:24 AM

Yeah I occasionally play. My stats are here http://bf2s.com/player/20051743/

Name : Thalin
Rank : Sergeant
Kit : Medic, Sniper, Spec-Ops

My Xfire name is Thalin as well.

Oh, and I don't have Special Forces. Anyone up for a game tonight?

KrazyTaco Mar 3, 2006 10:33 AM

Although I have Special Forces, I have yet to re-install it after I had to un-install and re-install battlefield 2. Special Forces is extremely taxing on my computer it seems, namely around the night time maps. I could always try re-installing though.

SinisterX Mar 3, 2006 05:09 PM

I don't play that often, but here is my info anyways.

My stats: http://bf2s.com/player/61698703/

Name: PhaseBeta
Current Rank: Corporal
Favorite Kits: Medic and Anti-tank.

My X-fire is phasebeta. During the weekends, I'm pretty much always up for a game =)

I don't have any expansion packs. So, no special forces =(

Quality thread, Jinn =)

Animechanic Mar 3, 2006 05:27 PM

I play fairly regularly.

Name: [1MI]Gunmetal
Rank 1st Sergeant (close to 30k score)
Kits: Everything but Spec Ops and Sniper (but mostly engineer right now, going for expert badge)

X-Fire: chanic

I do have Special Forces

They're probably talking about the Hummer TOW. I guess if anyone in then server fires one, the whole server crashes.

Better than the luck that I've had with that game.

My favorite online game right now.

Gunnery Sergeant Aerith: http://bf2s.com/player/46011578/

I do own Special Forces, but I hate it. The maps are crap and the only thing it was good for were the unlocks. I'm playing classic BF2 most of the time and I'd love to engage in a GFF squad sometime ...

Let us know when you get that figured out and I'll add you to the first post.

Well, I'm glad to see as many people posting in here as I do. I rarely hear of people on GFF playing Battlefield 2 and I really didn't expect this thread to go too far. Anyways, looks like we have enough people for a decent squad now. I'll most likely play tonight for a good long while. From about 11:00pm - 4:00am central time. Hopefully some people are down to play with me that late!

We'll see.

Jinn Mar 3, 2006 06:04 PM

Uhg, I can't even express the frustration I've felt try to get ALL the Battlefield games to work.

Every fucking time EA just drops the ball. I say this because most of my problems with the games has been connection related IE thier fucking server problems. I was actually have problems with Battlefield 2 right when I got it. I would join the server then get automatically disconnected. I fucked around with it for awhile and just ended up unplugging my modem and plugging it back in. Strangely enough that took care of the problem and I haven't had any more yet (luckily).

Anyways, sorry to hear of you misfortune Lukage! I understand how frustrating EA can be at time's, especially if you seeking help from them. I can't see how your disk would be the problem but hopefully that works out for you.

Thalin Mar 3, 2006 06:09 PM

What server will that be? And what time will that be here in the UK?

Jinn Mar 3, 2006 06:24 PM

Not sure what server yet but that's about 5:00am - 10:00am on your side of the planet. Heh, probably not the best time for you to play unless you work nights or something.

Thalin Mar 3, 2006 06:26 PM

Damn, trust you all to be American. :(

KrazyTaco Mar 4, 2006 01:28 PM

So do we have any sort of accpeted voice program we could all use while playing. The BF:2 VOIP client, if it's even enabled on the server of choice, isn't the best one in the world, especially if everyone can't manage to get on the same squad. Someone want to set up a TeamSpeak server or something?

Rock Mar 4, 2006 01:42 PM

Maybe we should start out by setting a date and time for a meeting in #gfchat, open a new room, set up TeamSpeak, decide on a game server and make sure that everything is working for everybody, because this will end in mass confusion and chaos if we don't organize properly.

Besides, us Europeans will have horrible (if not unbearable) pings to game servers located in the US.

I'm in #gfchat right now, so if anyone wants to join me for a game, just ... gong. Or send me a PM.

Thalin Mar 4, 2006 02:01 PM

Me and Rock are up for a game in a couple of hours. Anyone else want to join us?

KrazyTaco Mar 4, 2006 02:05 PM

Rock and Thalin, if you haven't already download Xfire. It tracks which server your on and shows it to all of your friends. Also tracks how many hours youve played, and serves as a out-of-game chat client and in-game chat client.

Jinn Mar 4, 2006 02:06 PM

Actually, a few of us got together last night well enough. I guess xfire was pretty much an intregral part of that, but it seemed to work out fine. I do agree we should get a teamspeak server up so we can actually hear each other through our mics. I would host it myself, though unfortunately I don't think my cable connection is good enough to handle it.

I don't think it's necissary to open an IRC chatroom for planning playing time's, server locations, and ect. With Xfire at our disposal it's fairly easy to get orginized. Though when it comes to conversing about BF2 I see how a chatroom could come in handy.

I should be ready to play in a couple of hours. Just get ahold of me on xfire.

EDIT: Ha, you beat me to it KrazyTaco.

Nevermind, I think I'm thinking of something else.

S?ecter Mar 4, 2006 11:59 PM

Name: Smeetin
Rank: No Idea, never check or care
Kit: Special Forces or Medic, kind of half and half

Sometimes I love suicide bombing as the special forces, but usually when I play seriously, it's with the medic, and I'm quite good.

I always play on the After-Hourz servers, usually #2, sometimes #3, never #1...

Hope to see some of you online...

Kamui Mar 6, 2006 03:17 PM

I wil add some of you guys on Xfire to get a good session going. Playing solo is definitely boring unless you're a sniper >_<

And gah, I hate squads where nobody listens and attempt to play teamwork :(

Jinn Mar 6, 2006 05:19 PM

Could you tell me your Xfire handle please? I won't have a chance to get on my computer to check my Xfire today, but I would like to post it.

And yes, it has been quite fun playing with the people at GFF so far. Though there has been a certain lack of communication while playing. Getting a mic is definitly the best when it comes to games like BF2. Typing while trying to gun someone down is never pleasant.

I've been trying to think of a good night for ALL of us to get on together. I'm up for suggestions on a good time for all of us to gather. We may have to split into two squads, but with Teamspeak that should be no problem.

Speaking of Teamspeak, would anyone be willing/happen to have a good enough connection to host a server? I would but I don't think my cable connection could handle it while I'm playing BF2.

XerxesTheMighty Mar 7, 2006 01:10 AM

I haven't played in about a month, but I wouldn't mind playing. I'm Xerxes on Xfire. I'd be willing to try and host a Teamspeak server. See how far I can push my broadband. I've hosted with about 6-8 people while playing BF and was pretty good speed wise.

Name: [SoK]Xerxes
Rank: ?
Class: Assault or Support/Medic.

Kamui Mar 7, 2006 10:23 AM

I think the original post of this thread listed all the Xfire handles and other BF2 related info.

I say about a game this upcoming friday? That'd be the start of spring break for me! Dunno about the time yet since it may be possible (and surely) that we are in different timezones.

And I may be able to grab a TS server for us. Need to check into it.

XerxesTheMighty Mar 8, 2006 05:37 PM

D'oh I lied about my Xfire handle, its actually XerxesTheMighty. Curses! I can't remember anything anymore.

Freelance Mar 8, 2006 10:53 PM

I haven't touched BF2 in several days now (SRO is slowly starting to own me), so I've decided today to play it tomorrow. Is anyone up for a game? I'm in EST and I'm available at night, around 6:30ish.

I need 306 points left to get promoted.

Lukage Mar 8, 2006 11:10 PM

In EAs glorious wisdom, they've put their CD Keys on the booklets. I of course keep my CASES.

Fuckers. I can't find my key.

Roger that. I don't have too much to do tomorrow other than household chores, so I'll be hanging out around the house tomorrow night. I'll keep xfire on so you guys know where to reach me.

On another note, I dunno how you guys manage to get those air defense ribbons. 11 stinger kills might as well be a solid gold computer case for all I can get it.

Thalin Mar 9, 2006 10:08 AM

I'd play a game tomorrow, but remember i'm in the UK so it would be anytime in the evening for me, don't know what time that would be for all of you...

Kamui Mar 9, 2006 10:39 AM

I'll be up for a game as well tomorrow! CST time zone but should be good around 4h30-6h30 PM.

Jinn Mar 9, 2006 04:14 PM

You guys know I'm down, especially if I can get Freelance addicted to it again by playing with her >_<.

Wolfy, COME BACK! Hehe.

KrazyTaco Mar 9, 2006 11:06 PM

We have a voice communication solution now. My clan has a TS server that uses nowhere near it's max capacity of users. Lukage and I are Server Admins on it, so everyone can come on over and use it whenever you want to play BF2 with one another.

Server details:
Client Type: Teamspeak
Server IP: 70.86.43.58:8310
Anonymous login? Yes, restrictions of course

Once you get in you'll be dropped into the Lobby. From there you will need a CA or SA to move you to the BF2 channel. Lukage and I are of course more than willing if were in at the time, otherwise you can ask someone else in there to move you to BF2 and you shouldn't have to many problems. When Lukage and I are on, we can go ahead and give you registration rights with the server, and once your regged you can move about freely at your own accord. So go ahead and drop on in anytime. If anyone in there asks you who you are or what your doing just tell em' your playing BF2, and reference me or Lukage.

One lucky day on Dragon Valley...

Skexis Mar 9, 2006 11:13 PM

I had a real problem tonight being able to hear anything people were saying, especially in a helicopter. Thing is, I need my sound volume high so I can hear the kind of vehicles coming and whether there's enemy gunfire near me.

If you guys are open to it, my friend that came into the TS channel briefly (VolkaV) says we can get on his clan's ventrilo server if we need to as well. I think the program itself is a lot more simple to get into, and the sound is definitely a lot better, so you can hear people enunciate. Plus, you can adjust your inbound and outbound as well, so you can fine tweak volume controls for different people who have headphone mics or desk mics.

server: edge5.nrgservers.net
port: 3507

They're really relaxed about logins and such, so you don't need to register or make a password or anything. If you guys are interested, I'll let you know the server password.

As for the gaming tonight, well, I didn't do so hot, except for the last couple of rounds I played. It seemed like every server we went to had some ace plane pilot that would continually strafe us. Ah well.

Kamui Mar 10, 2006 11:24 AM

Last night's game was alright. Had some trouble in finding a decent server that was not uber laggy or full. TS worked wonder since it seems the VOIP is still screwed up Wolf really needs to get a mic :)

Gamewise, we did alright in our teamwork. Skexis was on the opposing team for a couple of rounds so it was my pleasure to blow him up :P I hate you in an APC btw :P

Taco was pretty tight in the Engineer role, repairing stuff and mining.

As for Wolf.... One word of advice: never take a transport vehicle or aircraft, she jixes the whole squad :P

Looking forward to play with you guys some more!

Freelance Mar 10, 2006 06:01 PM

Sorry. I DO have a mic, but the PC is in the living room where it's always busy. No way am I going to talk to a game while there's people around.

The transport jinx is the reason why I usually would rather HIKE to my destination.

I had fun last night, but I quit when oilfields came up. Same for Kubra. I really hate those maps :3

Jinn Mar 10, 2006 06:42 PM

I got to play with Skexis and KrazyTaco last night. It was fun, but ended way too soon. Understandable though, if you guys had been playing all night.

I wanted to log on to the ventrilo server Skexis was on but I've been really fucking sick the past few days. I've been coughing like crazy so my voice is all hoarse.

I'm going to be laning over at my brother's pretty much all night tonight, so feel free to join up. I'll more than likely be in Chaos squad with my brother and our friend.

The thing is, it's 11 kills using AA, not killing 11 people in aircraft. The trick is to go kill a bunch of infantry using a mobile AA. I got my AA ribbon back before patch 1.2 when the missiles couldn't hit anything (except friendlies).

KrazyTaco Mar 11, 2006 12:59 AM

A half bragging/half revealing state post, I was just recently in a server. There were 3 squads including mine on the Chinese team. The entire round I was the only person in my own squad, my closest competitors was a 3 man squad consisting of 2 anti-tanks and 1 support. I was engineer of course.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...neManSquad.jpg

*Sigh*, It was a really pathetic round for the Chinese >_>

Double Post:
Just a bit of an update. Although it's not official, I think the general concensus around here is that the Vent server Skexis mentioned would probably be best for voice communication. The clan who owns the server is pretty lose about who gets on, and you don't need to register either. Not to mention, Vent sounds quite a bit better than does TeamSpeak. So you don't have to scroll up to Skexis post, here is the info.

Client Type: Ventrilo

You can usually find the BF2 players in the Misc Chat channel.

Josiah Mar 12, 2006 06:22 AM

I wish I could play. :( I first heard some friends tell me about it so I downloaded the demo. I had fun with that until my video card fried, conveniently before a friend of mine was gracious enough to get the game for me. The demo was fun, though.

I so wish I could've seen the look on this one guy's face when he hopped into a jet, only to get blasted by one of his own base's tanks that I conveniently hopped into when I saw him making a break for the jet. Classic. :p

Jinn Mar 17, 2006 08:36 PM

So has anyone checked out Euro Force yet? I'll definitely be getting it soon, but I was still curious as to what other's thought of it.

Also, I haven't been playing as much as I usually do due to a flu I've been struggling with. I'm just getting better now so I'll be playing a lot more from now on. Who's up to play this weekend? I'll be playing tommorow for sure.

Freelance Mar 18, 2006 09:03 PM

Euroforce is out already? Man, I haven't been keeping up with BF2 news lately. I'm currently taking a break from playing it. I've played it so much that I want to now play other games for a bit.

I have no idea when I'm going to get Euroforce though. There are other games I want to get more first.

Freelance Apr 5, 2006 08:30 PM

Yeah, looks like I gotta doublepost since nobody has been checking this thread out lately :(

Remember when I said I was taking a break from the game? After playing it a bit for the last several days, I now wonder what the hell I was thinking. BF2, just like any other game, has its faults and issues, but damn, it's a total blast to play. It's the most fun multi-player game I've ever played.

I just love those moments where everything goes your way and nothing the enemy does can take you down, such as the time I defended a base alone with nothing but the TOW, destroying every single car, chopper and tank in sight. I did so much damage that the other side got ticked off and started sending a bucketload of arty my way XD Despite that, I still came back to the base everytime to continue my rapage. You just gotta love moments like those.

Today I had a great round too in Operation Smoke Screen. I was also defending a base with a TOW, and even blew up a chopper with two people inside who came too close to me, ha! I'm the TOW master! I could've received the Vet ground defense badge if only I had the required amount of hours :(

I sure wish Special Forces was integrated into BF2. I'd LOVE to join servers with nothing but urban maps. I may be the only one who loves being infantry. That's why I love the city maps so much, along with Iron Gator.

I'm beginning to love Operation Smoke Screen. It's purely TOW heaven for me as it's an armour concentrated map. Next to infantry, I bloody love the TOW. I could spend hours just sitting there waiting. Great Wall is awesome as well. It reminds me of Gulf of Oman, which had put an equal emphasis on armour and infantry battles.

It sucks that Armoured Fury has no urban maps :( I thought it'd be cool if battles could take place in cities like San Fran.

Lukage Apr 5, 2006 08:55 PM

Yeah I have the game working and we'll get Taco to get some of us together again.

Freelance Apr 5, 2006 09:05 PM

The problem is finding a time for all of us to get together at once. Thursday or Friday nights are the best for me, as I don't have work the next day. I have a 7am shift, you know :(

Lukage Apr 6, 2006 12:08 AM

Thursday! (After 10ish CST)

Kamui Apr 6, 2006 02:55 PM

I should be up and ready friday in the veninig as I have a badass paper to write for tomorrow (1500 words to go and not even the book read!).

I agree with Wolfie, BF2 is badass fun with the squad and I am looking forward to play with Taco, Skexis and Wolfie very soon!

P.S: now I gotta save money for both SF expansion and Booster pack, because I just learned you can only unlock the other tier of weapons if you have them... And I wanted the P90 so badly for my Anti-Tank kit gahhhhhh

Freelance Apr 6, 2006 03:41 PM

You only need SF if you want the second tier weapons.

Although I have said Thursday and Fridays are the best times to get together and play, it's actually more complicated than that. The problem is my 7am shift. I am so used to sleeping at 10-11pm now that I do tend to get sleepy in that time period, even when it's my off-day. That might put a little crimp into our plans. I'll definitely try to stay awake, but sometimes it just doesn't work. I yawn so much that I give up and pack it in. Well, I'll see how tonight (or tomorrow) goes.

Jinn Apr 6, 2006 10:00 PM

Also, everyone that has it, let us know if you have Euro Force. I'd really like to play with some more GFF people, and more often too. Perhaps a #bf2 channel wouldn't be such a bad idea. I think it may work better as a hub for us rather than Xfire.

Freelance Apr 6, 2006 10:22 PM

I support a #bf2 channel, although I am on XFire every day.

I was hoping to play tonight with the gang, but uh, nobody was on :( I played by myself and racked a nice amount of points spamming the ammo bag in Karkand :D

Loathor__Healer Apr 20, 2006 10:05 PM

Well, I play this game tons. But not online much becuase of my diaulup. Once I get cable sure thing.

I normally Play the Sniper Kit. Love it to death. :)

Freelance Apr 20, 2006 10:11 PM

Whoo, someone replied!! Welcome to the club, Loathor__Healer. Get Cable ASAP hee hee!

Does anyone know when Armoured Fury is coming out? I guess there's no definite date yet. If they come out with an urban based booster pack, I'll be in heaven.

Anyone up for a game tomorrow night sometime??

Yggdrasil Apr 20, 2006 11:12 PM

I've just started playing BF2 vanilla since my friend sold me his discs for cheap. Hes kinda moved onto other things.

In anycase I'm really enjoying the game, although coming from CoD2 the whole BF2 system feels awkward. Your hits and you getting hit doesn't seem to register as much as they do in CoD2. But thats just stuff that wears out with time. Right now I'm just trying to learn the maps and how to stay alive. So far the vehicles are pretty neat, although I have yet to really master the chopper and the jet. I always either crash or I simply can't control the craft to line up my shot. So far my favorite kit is the Spec Ops, not as much armor but I tend to get killed so fast it doesn't matter anyways. Gotta love driving a buggy behind enemy lines, planting C4 on commander assets and sending them sky high. Of course booby trapping airplanes and the like are tons of fun too.

Freelance Apr 21, 2006 07:37 AM

Welcome, fellow new player!! Want to play with us tonight? Kamui and Taco's good to go, and Jinn may join us hopefully. I'm still looking for more. We are all on X-Fire.

Anyway, mastering the chopper and jet is really hard and takes a lot of practice. I can't be bothered so I never do any, haha. I love being infantry anyway. Have you found a map you've liked so far? Do you have any of the expansions?

Hush and Cool Apr 21, 2006 09:43 AM

I'd be interested in joining a server with some members. My profile:
http://www.gameslave.co.uk/bfparser.cfm

I usually play spec ops, anti-tank, support, and sniper.

I'd be willing to play tonight. Send me a PM (or contact me through xfire- my username is "livinghairspring")

Thalin Apr 21, 2006 10:01 AM

I'll be up for a game tonight, but i'll have to install it again. I'll be on XFire. What time GMT?

Freelance Apr 21, 2006 11:02 AM

Erm, we don't really have a definite time yet, but I'm thinking maybe 7 to 7:30 EST? I don't want to start playing too late into the night. I get sleepy around midnight, so that won't help the team any. What do you guys think?

If you guys have any questions, my X-Fire username is on the 1st page.

P.S. Do you guys know of any server that has both BF2 vanilla and Euro Force maps in their rotation?? I'd like to play servers that has both, so I won't need to DC all the time just to play different maps.

Thalin Apr 21, 2006 11:27 AM

Well the problem always is when I try and have a game with you guys that your all from the US, which means it's something like 4am my time. I'll be on about 9:00PM GMT, what time is that GMT, i'm not sure.

Lukage Apr 21, 2006 12:10 PM

I'm out for the weekend, but hit me up Sunday night.

So far I just like the maps that have copious amounts of aircraft so I can practice without seriously impairing my team. But so far I like Dragon Valley, all versions. As for expansions I plan on getting Special Forces when I can, although a lot of my friends tell me that its really nothing more than a BF2 mod in a box.

So far playing as just infantry can be fun, especially when you are on a deadbeat team who've been locked up in their uncappable base and you just sneak you way out on foot and cap some far away base, sometimes which helps turn the tide. But other than that the maps are so huge (even the 16 player versions) and vehicles s prominent there really is not much for an infantryman to do when a vehicle rolls around.

Freelance Apr 21, 2006 11:53 PM

Lots of people hate Special Forces, but the maps are more infantry oriented, which is something I really enjoy. If you love Armour, then you may be interested in the two booster packs: Euro Force and Armoured Fury, especially Armoured Fury. They're more armour-centric.

Oh, and thanks to everyone who participated in tonight's game. Only Taco and Kamui were on hand, actually, and we had a blast. We were the best squad in every round we've played, save one. Great stuff. We started playing at close to 10pm EST.

KrazyTaco Apr 22, 2006 12:19 AM

So many people and yet so few participants, come on folks, join the GFF Squad and we can dominate the battlefield together >_>

Like said earlier, you can catch when someone from GFF, or a group, is playing by downloading Xfire and adding us into your list. Usually the way things works is whoever is online at around the time we meet will all join up into an Xfire chatroom. It makes it easier to communicate with each other, in-game and out. If you have a mic, or even dont and just want to listen, you can join into the TS server mentioned earlier. Once everyone is situated, we'll find a server and join into it. From there we dominate. Like Wolf said, we (Kamui, Wolf, I) played 5.5 rounds tonight. Our team won 4 of those rounds, and we got best squad twice. The .5? Everyone dropped out once Kubra Dam came up, Satans illegitimate child incarnated in the form of a map. Join up next time, because we rock >:)

Hush and Cool Apr 22, 2006 01:40 AM

Is anyone down for playing on saturday night?

Jinn Apr 22, 2006 03:09 PM

I'd like to play tonight. I'm pretty much open for any time.

Freelance Apr 23, 2006 07:36 PM

Jinn, Kamui and I played tonight for several rounds. We rocked as usual, until Jinn had to leave. Then we sucked. Well, we weren't horrible, but it wasn't anything to brag about either. We should have at least three people in all future gaming sessions to ensure that we show everyone else who's boss.

Unfortunately, since most lots of people don't have Special Forces or Euro Force yet, I've never yet been able to play those maps with GFFers. Iron Gator + Gffers would rock.

Hush and Cool Apr 24, 2006 01:42 AM

I couldn't play today because I had to study, but I'm definitely free on friday. Can we just set a definite time to play on friday so we don't have to worry about changing our schedules at the last minute?

Freelance Apr 24, 2006 08:44 PM

It isn't possible to set a time for get togethers, since schedules are pretty impossible to keep. As you said, they can change at the very last minute, such as mine, and time zone differences definitely puts dampers on people's plans. What I suggest is to just log into X-Fire every once in a while. If there are other people on, you can simply ask if they feel like playing that day, and hope they say 'yes.'

By the way, I have reached 98:05:02 total playing time :D Hahaa...almost 100 hours, and that's not even counting the 80+ hours I've spent playing the demo. I have spent most of my waking hours playing BF2 o.O

Thalin Apr 27, 2006 02:24 PM

I'll be on on Friday too.

Double Post:
So... Are we up for a game tonight? In a couple of hours?

Hush and Cool Apr 29, 2006 06:30 PM

Sure, I'll be here tonight. It's better if you give me a time, though.

Freelance Apr 29, 2006 06:35 PM

Not sure if the message was directed for tonight or last night, but I'm too busy typing up a review of Godzilla Final Wars to play tonight.

If you guys get together, however, then please post about the rounds you've played here. It's fun hearing about other people's experiences.

KrazyTaco May 5, 2006 05:58 PM

So everyone knows, we have another game planned for tonight at 11 PM EST. So far the roster looks to be Wolf, Starman, Kamui, and myself, of course anyone else can jump in, the more the merrier. Per usual, we'll all meet on Xfire, someone will create a chat room and we'll find a server from there. The TeamSpeak server mentioned earlier will still be in service with your Server Admins being Lukage and Myself for tonight if anyone wants to use it.

Lukage May 5, 2006 07:23 PM

I'm off work at 11EST, so I might tag along if I don't go out of town tonight. Lukage, ubarz Assault reporting for duty.

Katie, lets get on Meelu's clan server. I like the place.

Freelance May 5, 2006 09:55 PM

Okay, the game is starting in the next few minutes. Anyone who wants to join should start preparing now.

Double Post:
Crap. Tonight's session was a total bust. Only one of the group playing actually got a win on his side! We usually never fare this badly. Let's hope the next session turns out to be a much better performance : /

Lukage May 6, 2006 12:50 AM

Rape and murder. :( Mosque was totally guarded by snipers and Armor. :(

KrazyTaco May 6, 2006 12:52 AM

Snipers suck, my hatred for them has grown ever larger, if that was even possible. Honestly though... we stunk. I think the problem though was confusion in the ranks. Waen was commander, that should have been me I think (Not that he didnt do a good job, just that I always do it) >_>. Also, we had some Non-GFF'ers join the squad who kind of complicated matters of managing the squad as a captain. You know, you tell them to go defend the refinery and one of them decides to do his own thing, that kinda stuff. But anyways, in the final minute of the game I scored my 3rd purple heart, and so I dont know weither to cry or be happy.

Freelance May 6, 2006 12:53 AM

Don't worry, tonight was just one of our off-days. In fact, this is the first off-day we've ever had. In all our other sessions, we rocked uber hard. Don't let tonight bug you. We shall return and get our revenge for the pain we've received tonight.

Lukage May 6, 2006 12:53 AM

I was 19 years old at the time, sorry.

Jinn May 6, 2006 09:18 PM

Anyone feel like playing tonight? I've been slacking hard on my BF2 gaming time and I want to start getting in the habit of playing at least every other day (and I mean at least).

Anyways, I'm up for a good session tonight. Hop on Xfire and we'll rock some bitches.

Kamui May 9, 2006 09:20 AM

I'm down for another go after today since it's my last final... then vacation time :)

I think it's the fact that we haven't played (at least to me) in a while so we lost a bit of teamwork. And the fact that there was no commander and I had to step up (I'm so sucky when it comes down to one) didn't help the loss :)

It'll be much better once we figure out our roles and team.

KrazyTaco May 10, 2006 03:33 PM

On that note:
Wolf brought up the idea and Ive been kinda researching it, how does everyone feel about starting up a quasi-proffesional GFF team? I mean as in a team that would compete in the TWL BF2 5 vs 5 Infantry Ladder.

Make no mistake, I don't think we should join this ladder and expect to do very well, but what this would do is give us a set date every week in which we go in and compete against other proffesional teams. We might get our rears handed to ourselves everytime, but it would still be fun I think. Might even claim a victory or two near the start of the season.

Here's a copy of The Rules. We would be competing in the 5 vs 5 infantry ladder.

Freelance May 10, 2006 04:02 PM

I still don't remember suggesting it, but oh well. I think joining would give us more incentive to play more often, so I'm game. It sounds like fun at any rate. We'd just have to come up with an uber spiffy team name (something with GFF attached to it) and have at it!

Anyone else game?

Jinn May 10, 2006 06:19 PM

You guys know I'm down! I think it'd be fun to compete, and I think we could to pretty damn well too.

Freelance May 10, 2006 08:15 PM

Cool, we already have three people (including me) lined up for this. I think the minimum is four, according to the rules on that other website.

*pokes Kamui* :D

Oh, and Taco, Kamui, Star and I had a gaming session earlier today. We were trying to hold River Village at Dragon Valley, where the opposition were mostly armour. We sure had our asses kicked many times over, haha.

My Basic Amour badge that I've earned in our last outing didn't kick in though, so I'm sorta disappointed, but that's okay. It's not that hard to get.

Actually, considering it was just the 3 of us defending that base, we did really friggen great. Infact, I think we only lost it once or twice throught the course of the round. I did grab myself a new battlfield story to tell my grandchildren though. The second round we played, I walked over to River Valley while it was grayed. Upon getting to the gates I shot up 2 guys. After entering, I killed one guy who was prone in the corner trying to cap. Finally a 4th guy sees me and starts spraying me, but I managed to turn around and kill him to (I had the trusty ol' DAO-12 the entire time). With all the infantry down, "The final challenge" appeared, an enemy BTR at about 1/4 health. On like, my last bar of health, I managed to fire a rocket off through that small window and hit him, destroying it, thats about the time you walked in Wolf >_>

Props go out to my greatest inanimate friend on the battlefield:

Actually, it was mostly just the two of us, but you did pretty much all the work since you were the nice anti-tank dude. I do have to thank you for providing me with lots of points for supplying you with constant ammo XD

We still don't have a 'yes' from any other members here in regards to the team thing. Likely candiates are Kamui and Thalin, assuming we can ever find a good time to play with him. Lukage is another candiate, and I haven't see hide nor hair of any of the others in the big list on the first post.

Thalin May 11, 2006 08:08 AM

I'd love to play with you guys, but you only ever seem to play at like 5am over here in the UK, which is pretty useless for me. Is there any chance of changing your normal gaming time together to suit all our needs?

Erm, I'm usually available a little after 7pm EST everyday, and I've no idea
what time it'd be where you are. The problem is that it seems everyone else is usually AFK at that time, except for Kamui. He spends all his time playing EVE :D

By the time everyone is available to play, it's around 9 to 10pm, and I go
to bed around 10pm. That's why I'd rather play on my off days (Thursday and
Friday nights)

Thalin May 11, 2006 10:09 AM

Yeah see, thats about 4am here :( Its such a shame because i'd love to play with you lot.

Freelance May 11, 2006 01:45 PM

Aww, that sucks :( I can't play earlier than 7pm because I'm at work from 7 to 3pm. It takes me an hour and 15-20 minutes to get home, and once I get home, I either have to a) take a shower, b) clean the rabbit cage, and/or do some cooking. Then comes dinner. After I finish all that, it's 6:30 to 7pm.

I may be able to play earlier on Saturdays, but that isn't always guaranteed.

Lukage May 11, 2006 07:41 PM

I'm good for late Friday night or early Saturday for some practice.

KrazyTaco May 11, 2006 07:45 PM

Just to get this gravy train rolling, I'll go ahead and create the GFF team over on TWL. All I need from everyone, is a few questions answered.

1. What should our team name be?
2. Team Logo (200 x 200 pxiels)?

Freelance May 11, 2006 07:51 PM

1. Gamingforcers. Get it? Enforcers? We can shorten that to G-Force (G-Forcers?), which coincidentally is also the name of an organization in the Godzilla movies.
2. I suck at making logos, but I know some people who do. Maybe I can them to whip something up for us.

Update: Taco, Star, Kamui and I played a couple of rounds last night along with some no-name people who decided to join our squad, and we kicked ass, just like we knew we would.

Thalin May 13, 2006 04:27 PM

Well, I had some more good rounds today.

Freelance May 15, 2006 06:33 AM

You TKed a top-ranking player! Awesome.

I haven't played the game by myself in a long time. Since most of my BF2 playing buddies don't even have Special Forces, I guess I should start playing it more often, but I just got a new game, Nox, for a mere $4.99, so I dunno how I'm gonna spread out the gaming love XD

Anyone up for another session this Friday? How about we leave the schedule as is for the next few weeks and see how it goes? Sometimes I forget to mention anything in this thread before we start playing, so just hop in X-Fire on Fridays and get in touch with any of us.

Kamui May 16, 2006 07:23 PM

Friday is BF2 time! Get yer butt on xfire in the evening (usually 8-10pm CST) and we'll kick some ass!

Lukage May 16, 2006 07:32 PM

Darnit...I work Fridays. Although, with a new video card, I'd like to see how awesome I can get the game to look. As far as the 200x200 logo goes, I could whip something up in my bowl of awesome.

Freelance May 16, 2006 07:53 PM

What time do you get off on Fridays? You can always hop in when you get home. Chances are we'd probably still be playing.

Update: What about Thursday night then? Thursday or Friday would be good days to play.

Josiah May 17, 2006 12:23 AM

Damn, that's sure a lot of changes. I'll be getting the patch now that you've told me.

P.S. Oh wow, the stats sig is back up! I missed those :D Too bad I just changed my avatar and sig though :(

We should definitely get a session going with the new updates soon. This Friday as usual, guys and gals. Oh wait, I'm the only gal :(

P.P.S. I just checked the new features and am intriqued by the co-op mode.

Oh, here's my BF2 stats if you guys wanna see :D

http://www.bf2player.com/sig/43717188-934.png

OK this gamespot DL is taking FOREVER...

KrazyTaco May 23, 2006 08:15 PM

It could be that I just got in before the heavy rush of downloaders. Early bird gets the worm and all.

Freelance May 25, 2006 12:17 AM

Okay, help me out here. I DLed the patch but when I doubleclick on it, I hear a noise as if it's installing, but I don't get a single dialogue or text box stating that. I find that very strange. Did it also happen to you, Taco?

Josiah May 25, 2006 04:12 PM

I somehow managed to get it, albeit a little slowly, from EA. Took a little over an hour or so. I saved a friend the headache by copying it to my flash drive when it was done. Thank goodness for the gig capacity! :D I didn't have any problems of that sort, but I did d/l the incremental patch first. However, I wasn't sure if it was what I really needed or not, so I went and got the full patch, which is what took a little more than an hour.

Those vehicle drops are weird. I've heard of people dying from those dropping on them, lol.

Freelance May 26, 2006 06:08 AM

Okay I have version 1.1.2720-552 0
Is that right? Any news on when Armoured Fury is coming out?

Kamui May 26, 2006 06:25 PM

I guess AF booster will be up during summer (wild guess though).

Freelance May 26, 2006 07:08 PM

Okay I am installing the latest patch as I speak. Thanks a lot for your help, Kamui!

That means tonight's session is still open. Only Kamui's on right now, so come into X-Fire if you guys wanna play! However, there's no news on the time we're going to play yet. As soon as we get several people, we're going to start.

UPDATE: That was fun, everyone who joined. I did the best tonight I think, with over 70 points. I also got the Meritorious Unit Ribbon on top of that. You can never have enough awards :D

Thalin May 27, 2006 07:19 AM

Damn I could have played at that time, but I didn't check the thread. Once again I miss the action :(

KrazyTaco May 27, 2006 10:41 AM

One day Thalin, one day.

Anyways, last night went okay. We only played 3 rounds, and it was just Wolf, Kamui, and myself. Both rounds were played on Wake. We lost the first 2 rounds, and then on the 3rd round Kamui dropped out but we still managed to win (hidden meaning perhaps?) Though, the best part was the awards Wolf and I got.
I got the Veteran Medic Combat badge:
http://static.bf2s.com/game-images/a.../1031113_2.png

And Wolf got the Meritorious Unit Ribbon:
http://static.bf2s.com/game-images/a...ar/3211305.png

Thalin May 27, 2006 11:10 AM

Tonight?

StarmanDX May 27, 2006 02:01 PM

I wanted to play last night but couldn't get in. =/

Kamui May 27, 2006 04:32 PM

Tsk tsk :P

The first round was lost for Taco and Wolfie since I was on the opposing team (hint hint) and the 2nd round was lost because... I dunno actually :D

1min we were doing so well, then 2min later we lost all capture points ^^

Small server too since Star couldn't get in and I couldn't access my unlockable weapons for some reason (I miss you PKM!)

Freelance May 28, 2006 11:22 AM

Oh pppft, I think we actually won the round after you left, but I can't remember exactly. It looks like you've encountered the rank bug, where the server assumes you're still a Private, or whatever the beginning rank is. Just quit the server and go back in again to stop that.

Unlike the Armour badge which I've earned but never received, my Meritorious Unit ribbon came through fine. Whooo!

Yesterday, I was called in to play a round with Thalin and Taco as a last minute kind of thing, but for some reason I was doing quite horrible no matter what kit I was using. I beat a hasty retreat. Sorry, Thalin.

garthvadr3 May 28, 2006 11:55 AM

Hey, I have played the battlefield series since it first came out. I bought 1942 at release. I have been playing BF2 for a while now, sort of sporadic since it's release since I have been getting my Masters degree but I love the game still. Here's my current stats:

Name: [MDK]Garthvader
Rank: Master Sergeant
Global Score: 36,525
Kills: 12,826
Kit: Medic, Anti-Armor
Specialty: Helicopter gunner

My clan is really a group of friends we are only about 6 members but all the members are good players.

Let me know next time want to play. I frequent the OBC uk server quite often now that it is summer time. MAybe I can catch one of you there.

I did not link to BF2s.com because it was leaving out over 3,000 of my points for some reason.

Freelance May 28, 2006 12:30 PM

Hello, garthvadr3. Welcome to our little home here in GFF. We currently have weekly sessions every Friday night, so feel free to join us sometime. We all hang out on X-Fire (my username is Freelancewolf), so just IM one of us on Friday if you want to play. We currently only play plain BF2 and Euroforce maps, as not all of us have Special Forces.

In regards to clans, I have no desire to join one, as I'd have to put in some sort of commitment, and my schedule can change at the last minute at any time. Several of us are starting up a ladder, however, and we need a team name and a logo (none of which are finalized yet). If you have any suggestions, let us know.

I go to BF2stats and BF2s. One updates faster than the other though.

garthvadr3 May 28, 2006 01:58 PM

cool. I will try to be there on Friday night. I do not have X-fire but maybe I will get it. BTW, in regards to the patch, besides the well known crash to desktop issue, is anyone else getting connection problems randomly when playing. I read that some other people were getting this in the BF2 forums, I was wondering if you experienced it also. I have not been able to finish my last 3 fights because of this and am about to just trash the game till they patch this godawful crap patch. I can't remember the last time EA actually realesed a patch w/o having to repatch it. Ughh...getting frustrated with their lack of testing skills. I like the new features but the new bugs make the game really hard to play. BF2142 not to far off, maybe it will be less buggy.

Thalin May 28, 2006 03:20 PM

Yes, and it's doing my head in.

Freelance May 28, 2006 03:42 PM

I get connection problems too, but it doesn't occur often enough to make me want to throw the CD against the wall or anything.

I also get crashes too, but it never occurs while playing, only when starting up or when it's loading the map. I guess I'm just lucky.

garthvadr3 May 28, 2006 04:07 PM

LOL just happened again, I almost puched my monitor and then I remembered new wide screen LCD punch your face instead so I did that. Maybe I will send my brain damage bills to EA:)

KrazyTaco May 28, 2006 10:53 PM

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...EAPatchers.jpg

Erm yah, I haven't actually had any problems with this patch yet though.

garthvadr3 May 29, 2006 07:10 AM

well, hopefully you wont have to deal with it because its probably one of the worst experiences ever. Imagine having the probability of a crash to desktop as soon as you press the join game button, or having the lost connection bug after you scored 80 points in a fight and then losing it all (3 times in a row). Or the server browser moving servers around when you press on them. I'm quite sure EA doesn't test anymore.

Freelance May 29, 2006 09:28 AM

Oh, you mean problems with the new patch...nope, I haven't had any problems with it yet. The problems I've mentioned were general ones.

garthvadr3 May 29, 2006 10:14 AM

Strange, everyone on the BF2 forums are having the same problems that I am.

Freelance May 29, 2006 11:19 AM

I've also heard on the GameFAQs forum (yes, yes, I know) that other people haven't had any problems so far. Maybe it depends on the server you're in.

Inhert May 29, 2006 12:46 PM

hey I just re-install the game and would like to know On wich server you guys play?

Freelance May 29, 2006 01:23 PM

Well, we don't play on any specific servers every Friday. We just look for one and play on that.

Unfortunately, BF2 has a bug that deletes everyone of your favourite servers, so the ones I've used were all wiped out once. I generally go to ones with good pings for me whenever I am playing by myself.

garthvadr3 May 29, 2006 02:37 PM

Inhert:
If you want some recommended servers, I regularly play on OBC the uk one, Badass clan, and Elite Sports. While OBC and Elite Sports are overseas and generally are listed with a ping of around 150, I never or at least rarely experience lag. Badass clan generally pings low. Most of the time these servers have good players so they are fun to play on.

I have a lot more in my favorites but I don't remember them now. Maybe I will post them later.

Freelance Jun 2, 2006 12:55 PM

Okay, since Kamui will not be playing with us for the next few weeks (or so), I'm asking all of you regular players whether you want to continue the weekly sessions, or take a break until he comes back. Of course, if any new people wishes to take his place, then we can continue as usual.

Oh, and yes, there WILL be a session tonight. Be there, or be square!

garthvadr3 Jun 2, 2006 01:44 PM

I wouldn't mind playing just name the time an place. Just wondering, are any of you part of the get payedto play BF2 thing?

RacinReaver Jun 2, 2006 02:18 PM

Hey guys, I've been tempted to buy this game for a long while now, but since the demo ran pretty shittily on my computer, I'm wondering if it's worth my time (I know BF1942 ran a whole lot better in the non-demo version). Does anyone here have specs similar to my computer?

Quote:

AMD Athlon XP 2800+ (2.08GHz)

Your processor is OK, you could do with another ram stick and possibly a new graphics card, although your current one may be ok on low settings.

Do you have X-Fire? We all use that for our sessions. If you do, you can chat with me at username freelancewolf. We usually don't have any start time, prefering to wait for a sizable amount to show before we start. I have no idea what the 'get paid to play BF2' thing is, though.

Oh, and yeah, what Thalin said.

Josiah Jun 2, 2006 03:41 PM

Have you guys ever gone sniping with a tank before? I got to do it a few days ago for kicks and giggles at Kubra Dam. A couple hundred meters or so west of the Refueling Station (that little building on the hill around the middle of the map) I managed to get in a tank up on those cliffs to the west and just sat there at the edge pounding the place. Granted, I only got two kills from it, but the idea alone and actually saying I've done it was worth the fun involved.

As for joining you guys today, I might be around a little bit this afternoon/evening, but I dunno if it'll be at the same time as you've established. I really need to get my mike settings fixed too.

Oh, do you guys actually use Gamespy for getting your list of servers to join, or do you just pick from the list that comes up in-game?

EDIT: For you engineers, I figured this out some days ago but haven't really seen anyone else do it, so I don't know if this is anything new to you or not. Have you ever tried booby-trapping vehicles with AT mines? For example, a tactic I've seen fairly frequently in Karkand is the USMC driving clear to the back of the MEC base and stealing the MEC's tank or APCs. A little trick I learned on my own that acts as a preventative measure for this is that I'll crawl under the vehicle and drop an AT mine there. That way, if anyone not on my team hops in that vehicle (or comes close to it in another vehicle, it's happened that way too), they go boom the moment they get in or start moving and wonder what just happened. Kind of the whole "If my team can't have it, nobody can" deal, you know? Give it a try sometime. If placed well, they won't even know it's there unless they actually stop and look underneath. I have a good laugh when, for example, someone kills me and they run off in some direction, and then I hear an explosion because they got in a vehicle I did this with. Funny stuff. One other note on that: if you drop a mine where a vehicle is not present but usually can be found, the mine will blow up when the vehicle spawns without destroying the vehicle. I don't know whether or not this is the case with vehicle drops.

Thalin Jun 2, 2006 03:43 PM

How about we play in an hour or so.

Hush and Cool Jun 2, 2006 03:49 PM

Sure. I need an exact time, though.

Freelance Jun 2, 2006 04:14 PM

Sorry, no can do. I promised someone else I'd play NoLF 2 with her today. I just got the game yesterdayand she wants to try the co-op missions.

Update: For all of you who didn't take part in tonight's session, there's always next time. I sure had lots of fun tonight. My best moment was in the Karkand server, where a whole bunch of enemies were crowded around one specific location. I opened fire on them (I was Support) and killed more than six of them at once, even a medic reviving a fallen comrade. I love it when I go Rambo style :D

Even better was one of our fellow GFFers who was promoted to First Sergeant today. Congratulations! He doesn't post in this thread, so I doubt he will see this.

Solis Jun 2, 2006 10:08 PM

Well, since I can actually play the game now, I might as well start posting here :D

Wow, I finally managed to get to First Sergeant. I've basically been locked out of my account since February, with 19892 points. Tonight, I got almost 200 points, so I got promoted! Now I just need to figure out what my unlocks should be...I really do like P90s...

garthvadr3 Jun 3, 2006 06:25 AM

Dammit, I actually was playing BF2 with my bro and completely forgot to check back here to see when you guys were playing:( Sorry guys. I need to remember to get Xfire.

get Paid to play is a free stat tracking system that you register for and if you put in 15 hours a month on their servers, you get registered in some pretty good drawings to win prizes. Its comletely free so its not really a big deal.

Freelance Jun 4, 2006 09:24 AM

Mmm, the member list at top needs to be updated. I know that Taco got Euroforce, for example. If there's anyone else who needs to get their 'stats' updated, or needs to get added to the list, let me know either through this thread or through PM, and I'll get a hold of Jinn and give him all the updates.

Jinn Jun 4, 2006 02:31 PM

Gah, I've been slacking with this thread really bad lately. Sorry guys ;_;. I made a few updates to the first post, but if I missed anything feel free to post in here or pm either me or Freelance Wolf. Now that the summers here I swear I'll be more involved!

garthvadr3 Jun 4, 2006 03:41 PM

Freelance Jun 4, 2006 03:53 PM

Guys! Armoured Fury is coming June 6th, 2006. Only 2 days away! Unfortunately, I can't get it right now, due to real life reasons. Perhaps towards the end of June.

Do you mean the X-Fire sig, or the sig that shows your BF2 stats? If it's the former, go to xfire.com. Of course, you do need X-Fire before you can get a sig. If it's the latter, go to www.bf2player.com. It's pretty darn wonky, though. Lots of times the sigs disappear.

Skexis Jun 4, 2006 04:05 PM

Yeah, I wasn't too hyped about euro force, but I kinda like the addition of the scanning choppers in armored fury. It makes me think that this pak will change up the gameplay a bit more.

Still, I feel like I've spent a lot of money on Battlefield already without the consumer support to go along with it. I think CGW was right when they said that the addition of these minipaks will end up dividing the community somewhat, and that's not a good thing for such a teamwork-oriented game.

Anybody else annoyed at the vehicle drops? Seems like the commanders use them as weapons more often than not, which is basically just a pile of suck. I mean, dropping a car on your enemy's chopper? It's just bad form.

I don't agree with that. Sure, Euro Force and Armoured Fury are integrated into the normal BF2 map servers, but I've rarely seen any servers that actually did so. Pretty much all the servers with EF maps are the ones which have ONLY EF maps. Judging from my experiences, I don't think it's dividing up the community.

What irks me is why Special Forces doesn't integrate into BF. I'd love to see a server with nothing but BF2, EF and SF urban maps.

Josiah Jun 4, 2006 10:06 PM

After days of trying, I finally get the Veteran Medic Combat Badge (and the Gold Star, too) in a round last night and neither bf2s.com nor BFHQ records it at all. :cussing: Does this have to do with the recent patching, or is it just a crap ranked server that I played on?

Oh, and last I checked, I haven't been added to the list yet. I've been editing the post of my stats since then, so it should be up to date.

First, inside the BF2 game, click on "BFHQ" and check to see if The EA servers gave you the award. If it's there, just go to BF2S and then re-visit in about 10 minutes. BF2S was denied access to the EA ranked statistics a while back when they had instant update, it and many other sites constantly pulling that data put a huge strain on EA tracking servers, so they had to impose limits. Basically you just need to give it a few minutes to update your stats.

Well, that's exactly the problem: it IS splitting up the community that way. Normally everyone would be playing the same game, the same maps, etc., so all the players are unified. If someone joins a EF-only server, then they aren't parts of the "standard" community that everyone else can join. It would be like BF2 users playing CS:S instead: it takes away people that are playing the main game (even if they're just playing new maps, those maps can't be played by normal BF2 users). So yes, it does somewhat split the player base by spreading them over several different games.

I'm playing tonight. If anyone would like to join me, check me out on Xfire.

Skexis Jun 7, 2006 12:01 AM

I went ahead and made the wiki page. Hopefully someone can clean up the member list more than I was able to so it doesn't all blur together, and members with brackets in their name don't get funked up.

Jinn Jun 7, 2006 12:42 AM

Thanks a lot Skexis! What a great idea. I didn't even think of posting our stuff up on the wiki.

Skexis Jun 7, 2006 12:52 AM

Well, to be fair, it wasn't my idea, it was Freelance Wolf's, but she was waiting on confirmation from Bigblah, so when I saw he okayed it, I figured I'd get the hard part out of the way.

(Sorry if I stole your thunder, Wolf. >_>)

Freelance Jun 7, 2006 09:11 AM

Wow...I didn't think they'd allow my idea to get onto Wiki. Maybe we can get more members now that we're 'official,' heehee. I wouldn't even now how to get started with a Wiki page, so thanks for getting it off the ground, Skexis.

Is it possible to put the 'stats' in a table? The headings could be Member, BF2 name, Kit, Expansions, etc. That would clear up the clutter.

Ramenbetsu Jun 7, 2006 10:44 AM

I didnt even know there was a community of folks on GFF that played BF2. I have a love hate relationship with the game myself. This of course might be because my computer sucks and until i get a good, i have to deal with long ass load times and shitty fps =(

Well, a good graphics card will certainly help with fps issues, but don't get your hopes up too much on loadign times. I recently bought 2 gigs of ram in the hopes it might help my processes run faster. Everything else is speeded up, but loading times for BF2 are about the same.

RacinReaver Jun 7, 2006 06:43 PM

Turning down graphics settings should make load times go faster (especially textures). I know when I play UT2k4 with my roommate even though his processor is a lot faster, since he has all settings at max it takes him considerably longer to load than me with all settings at near-miniumum.

Oh, and I just got off tonight's session, which, sadly, started a lot later than I thought it'd be. Although I did good in one round (rubs the nice shiny Infantry Combat Ribbon she just got), our side lost every time. I blame our crappiness for 1) the rest of the teammembers on our side, and 2) Taco and Kamui weren't around to even the score. Only Star, Toku and I played.

Taco, stop being lazy and fix your damn computer so we can get back on track! :D

StarmanDX Jun 9, 2006 11:21 PM

Yeah, you know something's wrong when I'm at the top of our team for more than one round.

Anyways, looks like I might be getting Armored Fury sooner than I expected, since it seemed like roughly the half the servers on the list were it. Solis was right, these do divide the community. =/

Freelance Jun 9, 2006 11:35 PM

Well, you have to keep in mind that AF just came out. It's to be expected that there'd be lots of servers running it. It should die down in a bit.

Being a fanatic, I'm willing to get anything BF2 related anyway. I love expansions too, so it's a no brainer that I'm gonna be getting AF. Taco's going to get it too, so we can have nice rounds together :3

Lukage Jun 9, 2006 11:48 PM

Well it looks like the newest patch for the game forces Windows2000 to lag and several other sources have confirmed this.

They just don't want you to play it on Win2k. Oh, and my stats are better than that...I should have more hours:

Battlefield 2 < 1 hour 107 hours

I'd say that makes sense, since the box lists Windows XP as a minimum requirement.

The B0mb Jun 10, 2006 03:14 AM

Dang, just got done playing a few hours. I'll check here next time. I'm definatly game.

garthvadr3 Jun 10, 2006 09:30 AM

was out with some friends getting drunk and playing cards. I guess I will try to tune in next Friday. If anyone is free before then, I'd be willing to hit up a game.

Freelance Jun 11, 2006 01:37 PM

I got AF yesterday and spent my time taking screengrabs for a friend who doesn't have BF2 but is interested in playing it. Today, I actually played the game to get a feel of the maps and...stuff.

In my humble opinon, AF is better than EF in terms of the new vehicles (land based, as I can't fly worth a damn) and maps. AF has more varied terrain, which is a refreshing change of pace from the maps we've seen in BF2 and EF. You get a map set on a frickin' freeway, complete with truck stops and shopping malls, one set in a peaceful farmland (until the tanks come rolling in) with rows upon rows of wheat fields and farmhouses, and one set at night.

There's more background noises too, which sends an awesome sense of ambiance as you're playing. You can hear wolves howling in the night map (I love the sound of wolves howling), and a storm's about to break in Operation Harvest (the farmland). You can actually see a dark cloud cover in the sky, complete with thunder and lightning! I've seen lightning up close and it's a sight to see. I have no idea if they can damage vechicles and buildings though.

For all you armour whores, this booster pack is for you. I've even hopped into vehicles when I've never usually done so before. Of course, engineers, anti-tanks and support classes are always needed as well to keep your guys alive. One of the coolest vehicles is...the semi. Of course, you won't get any kills that way, but they're fun to drive in :D I never found anyone to run over whenever I was in one, though. Nuts.

I'd love to have some AF rounds with the gang here sometime. A good step up from EF. I want more maps on American soil, man, especially in those big cities. Who wouldn't want to take the chance of wrecking havoc on a freeway, ah-roooooo?

I definitely like the idea of a homeland battle line, and the new vehicles are pretty enticing...
But I shouldn't be spending money right now, cause I gotta be saving up to pay back loans. <=/

Freelance Jun 11, 2006 02:09 PM

Hey, no biggie. I know several other people here are getting AF, but at a later date as well. While I like Great Wall and Operation Smokescreen from EF, the AF maps are more fun, in my opinion. I'll just cruise on my own for the time being and spend more time with the vehicles until more people get the pack.

P.S. I destroyed a chopper while in a tank. Is that normal, ah-rooooo?

Skexis Jun 11, 2006 02:22 PM

It depends if he had seen you yet. =p

You can nail choppers with a tank if you lead your shots well enough, but it's almost impossible to hit one once they've seen you, because they can get above your firing angle quickly, and then swoop down to take you out.

[Edit]: Unless you're talking about the new mini-choppers, I hear those are pretty fragile. It probably wouldn't take much from even the tank's MG to bring one down.

I'm going to be around the house pretty much all afternoon, so I'll be on Xfire if anyone wants to start a match. Just gotta finish eating, and then I'll be good.

Freelance Jun 11, 2006 03:04 PM

Yeah, that's what I figured. I didn't think it'd be possible to get a chopper in a tank due to the reasons you gave, so I was shocked when I actually got one. I'm sure he must have seen me, as he was directly in front of me, so I guess I got him 'cause he's a lousy pilot :D Not sure if it was one of the new choppers though.

Unfortunately, I'm done playing BF2 for today, since I've already spent time playing AF. Sorry, ah-roooooo :(

The B0mb Jun 11, 2006 04:25 PM

AF sounds pretty cool, but I have to get SF next. Anyone get SF is it worth it?

Also, I tyr and play daily normaly late night here are my stats. Needless to say i'm not the best. Most of the time i'm a driver.

That depends. SF gives you 2 unlocks for each rank you reach, so that's good. It's got some cool maps (Warlord, Iron Gator), but the night maps, while a neat idea, fails in execution. The night goggles gives the area a highly polarized look. They're supposed to let you see better, but it truth it does a pretty poor job of it. If you don't wear the goggles, then everything's pitch black...

You get jet skis, pick up trucks, tear gas, zip lines and grappling hooks :D

The maps are more infantry based, so you like that sort of stuff, then the expansion is for you, ah-roooooo.

The British voices are crap, but funny. They say stuff like "Starlight!" and "Foxhounds to this location!" I very much doubt the British refer to medics as 'starlight.'

You can't choose what weapons to use. They're only available to certain sides, which can be a downer for some.

The B0mb Jun 11, 2006 11:57 PM

Do I need SF in order to get EF or AF? Also.. zip lines are they as fun as they sound?

Freelance Jun 12, 2006 12:11 AM

No, you don't need to have SF to get EF or AF. I've never actually used zip lines before, only grappling hooks. The hooks are quite fun, though, enabling you to reach places you normally wouldn't, which makes it awesome for snipers.

No, they're all seperate packs. And from personal experience, zip lines are great.

The B0mb Jun 12, 2006 12:32 AM

Yeah due to limited funds I think i'm going to just get SF. I can't wait to snipe some guy going down the zip line. That would be awesome. Heh

Freelance Jun 12, 2006 08:31 AM

That's what we'drecommend anyway, because of the extra unlocks each rank, ah-roooooo. Enjoy the game when you get it, and have fun with the jet skis! :D

That's true, but I think it tends to add to the realism of the level. Night Flight would be one of my favorite levels if I had the chance to play it more. The trick is to rebind the goggles to a key that's easier to press, because you have to switch back and forth from them often. (the same is really true for gas mask, but that doesn't affect visibility near as much)

I really love the tactical angle of the expansion. If you have a coordinated squad, it is much easier to sneak in and steal a point out from under a group of enemies' collective noses. Zip lines and grappling hooks mean you can go a lot of places you might not normally be able to, and because of the teargas, it's a lot easier to suppress people who might not be so quick on the button with the mask. (More people than you might think, actually.)

Warlord and Night Flight are my favorites of the expansion, but mostly what my friend and I bought it for is the unlockable weapons. The MP7 engineer SMG, the F2000 assault rifle, the SCAR spec ops rifle...really almost every unlock is worth it. (Except maybe the anti-tank P90 SMG, I hear compared to the DAO shotgun it's pretty bad)

If you've got 20 bucks to burn, I'd say definitely go for it. It's got a lot of added content, but it's also got a different approach to playing. Even more so than before, you have to think cautiously, like the title would suggest, more along the lines of a special forces group.

Freelance Jun 13, 2006 05:21 PM

Wish there weren't 3 night maps, though. As mentioned previously, Warlord and Iron Gator are my faves. I used to ace with the F2K, but since the 1.22 patch, I've been doing utterly horrible with them. So much for the awesome F2K :(

Is anyone else thinking of getting AF? It's a lot better than Euroforce. Taco can vouch for me on that :) They'd be awesome to play in our Friday sessions, but yes, we will still play normal maps if you don't have it. We're not about to alienate you from our sessions if you're thinking along those lines.

KrazyTaco Jun 16, 2006 11:57 PM

Tonight's game was awesome. We all started off playing AF on Operation Road Rage, which if I had my new computer built by now would be super awesome, but it sadly isn't ;_; . Next we played the catepillar map (Operation Clean Sweep), the rarest map of them all and broke down some misconceptions I had (USA cant win). Near the end we all started doing some hokey crap and it was just all around fun.

Cattepillar ^_^

Solis Jun 18, 2006 05:48 AM

Haha, that was a fun game. KrazyTaco: "Americans NEVER win on this map". 10 minutes later we (on the US) have 230 points left and the MECs are out of spawns :D . Unfortunately, our boat tours didn't go so well, we kept hitting some rough turbulance. And by turbulance, I mean bullets and missiles flying at us. Actually that does make me wonder...why are there absolutely no waves in the water...

But now that you mention it, that map does kinda look like a caterpiller, or at least some type of slug.

Freelance Jun 18, 2006 08:37 AM

Someone oughta make a map shaped like a ferret.

Can't believe someone actually had Operation Clean Sweep in their rotation. I've only played that map like, once or twice. We had fun saying random (but funny) crap during the match. We should definitely do that more often (and by that, I mean saying random stuff during the match). The entire squad got wiped out on the overpass once in Road Rage. Lots of people would think that sucks, that I always see it as funny :D

Unfortunately, we didn't play too long, unlike our past sessions.

KrazyTaco Jun 22, 2006 11:05 PM

Just a reminder folks, tommorrow is game night. Keep in mind that although everyone typically tries their best to meet an official Friday gameday, we all still play mid-week whenever were all on and available and willing to play. Don't log onto Xfire only for Fridays, always be on. If it makes you feel better, Xfire is a great standalone IM program, one that competes with the likes of AIM in my opinion.

Kamui Jun 22, 2006 11:27 PM

Aim is for unskilled n00bs.

Use Xfire. Learn it and live it! And yes the game still stands on even though I won't be there :(

Hush and Cool Jun 23, 2006 02:08 PM

What time should we expect to play (be sure to specify whether you're referring to eastern or pacific time)?

Thalin Jun 23, 2006 02:29 PM

I'll play in a couple of hours...

Freelance Jun 23, 2006 02:53 PM

We play Eastern time evenings. We never have an exact time as it largely depends on who is available at that time and whether or not they can play.

The B0mb Jun 24, 2006 03:17 AM

Damn, had to much to do tonight. I'll be on tomarrow night. SF is pretty cool I love the pick up truck. It has nothing for armor but it's just fun to drive around in it. Grappling hooks are alot of fun aswell. Makes ya feel like a ninja! But I keep forgetting about the face mask and getting all dizzy. Drugs are bad!

Freelance Jun 24, 2006 08:22 AM

Can't play tonight. Sorry, but maybe other people will oblige you.

Anyway, we had lots of fun last night. I had a good outing at Operation Clean Sweep in particular, where I owned the enemy in the chopper as gunner. Destroying a chopper dead on with TV guided missiles and killing two people in it was the highlight of the evening. Of course, I also had moments where I was blown sky high, haha.

Glad you're having fun with SF, The B0mb.

Lukage Jun 25, 2006 06:28 PM

I'm back from out of town...and if I didn't mention earlier, I've fixed my BF2 issues (AGP was turned off...LOLZ!)

The B0mb Jun 29, 2006 04:37 PM

Been awhile since anyone has said ANYTHING here. I'll prolly be on tonight if anyone wants to join. I bought that freakin video card last week and I have yet to play BF2 all week. That ends tonight!

garthvadr3 Jun 29, 2006 06:56 PM

I have been playing a little bit mostly on 260 pimpshack or incognito though I like 260 better because there are more maps. What video card did you get? I recently bought a 7800GS because I still have AGP but this is a kickass AGP card runs BF2 like a charm.

I just bought BF2 Special Forces for $4.99 so I will be getting that in the mail soon. Hopefully some people have that so I can get some GFF squading in on it :)

KrazyTaco Jun 29, 2006 09:17 PM

Okay, weve got a few new members, so reminder time. GET XFIRE. I cannot stress this enough. Quite frankly you will not play with us withought it, because we never have a consistent server or time we play at. Friday night is as specific as it gets. You NEED Xfire installed AND RUNNING to chat with us and figure out where we have decided to play that night. Alot of you have added me to your buddy list, but it does no good if your never on. Tommorrow is game night, again, we dont know where were playing or at what time. I can tell you that generally we begin playing around 8-9 PM CST. So PLEASE try and have Xfire on at around 7'ish and keep it on till about 9:30'ish.

garthvadr3 Jun 30, 2006 05:39 AM

Ok finally got off my lazy ass and installed Xfire. My name is garthvadr3 just like my GFF nickname. Started inviting some of you from the list to my buddy list. Hopefully we can get some gaming in later tonight.

Awsome, this is one of the few series that I play pretty much at least a few times a week year round, until they actually develop a sequel. It was like that with 1942 (I played this one from day 1 till BF:V was released and even after) and vietnam for me. Great series, I hope EA improves their development of the game so that its again on par with BF1942 (Bug wise I mean).

Perhaps you could tell us a bit more about your BF2 experiences. I'm always wanting to know more about the people I may be playing with.

Inhert Jul 13, 2006 02:06 AM

ok I play this but now I'm just too much annoyed with this game... first it take forever to load a map with the stupid verifying client, second I have to say about 8 time on 10 the game crash just when it finish to load the map, three it take forever to close and finally having to do this like 3-4-5 time if not more to play one game is really getting on m nerves now.

am I the only one here that the game crash so often? all those crash happen just after the loading of the map, and if by chance I'm able to get in one, then now it's ok, I can play for hours in that map without any problem, but when another one load I always fear for this crahs and it happen a lot >.>

if it's a common crash I hope that they'll do something about it because I'm not re-installing the game till then... i hope 2142 will not have the same problem, but I think i'm out of luck...

Freelance Jul 13, 2006 06:29 AM

Are you by chance using the 1.13 patch? There is a crash problem with that one, as I never many crashes before I installed that. The beta 1.14 patch is supposedly more stable, as far as I've heard, so you might want to wait for that.

Inhert Jul 13, 2006 03:04 PM

hmm I see or just play with the 1.12 ?

Freelance Jul 13, 2006 04:47 PM

Well, you could play with 1.12, but then, there won't be many servers running that version, so crash or not, you're pretty much stuck with 1.13 until 1.14 comes out.

By the way, I'm really enjoying the new map that comes with 1.14 :3

yeah Ire-installed several time, and the problem is always there, and i'm pretty sure that itmay come from the 1.13 patch, because I don't recall having it in the first months I bought the game (which didn't have 1.13 at that time) and I read that thoses crash happened to other people too...

I just hope that the new patch will be more stable or a least get rid of those crash at the start of the game, it's just so annoying that the game take so long to close and so long to start a map. Such a waste of time when you tried 5 time in a row and you end up waste half an hour just trying to start one map >.>

Skexis Jul 14, 2006 02:11 PM

So what's everyone's opinions on uncappable bases? I personally think if a spec ops wants to come in and take out commander utilities, or maybe steal a plane, that's legitimate. If he's able to make it all the way over there and slip under the pilot's nose, he deserves what he gets.

But baseraping and artying when there's no other place to spawn, that just seems low. Unfortunately, too many servers don't mention anything about it, so, for example, it was okay for a small squad of people to camp on top of the MEC oil silo on Oman, and repeatedly shoot antitank rounds at our choppers and planes.

The commander finally artyed them after I told him to do something about it, but they just came back and did the same fucking thing 3 minutes later. If you're going into an uncappable, get in, do your business, and get out, I say.

Freelance Jul 14, 2006 03:05 PM

I dunno. I see lots of servers that don't allow people to attack uncappables except for spec ops. It's really annoying when planes repeatedly bomb uncappable bases, preventing us from advancing if that's the only spawn point we have left, but I rarely see that happen in the full game, only the demo.

StarmanDX Jul 14, 2006 04:14 PM

I tell ya, there's nothing more entertaining that being spec ops, sneaking into an uncap, blowing up some of their utilities, C4'ing a chopper and waiting for it to take off, then stealing another aircraft to escape.

Bombing/sieging an uncappable is just lame though.

Solis Jul 14, 2006 05:44 PM

I don't mind it when uncappable bases are attacked ONLY when all other bases have been taken over. I think if a team manages to control all the other points on the map, that it should turn the game into a direct assault against the opposing team (not to mention it would otherwise give an advantage to a side in maps where one side has an uncapable base while the other doesn't). Otherwise what would the controlling team do? Aside from that that, I don't like it when a team attacks an uncappable base when there are other targets they could go after. Although I just hate spawn camping in general, but that's the fault of the game's screwy spawning system (yet another issue that's being fixed in a sequel...).

On another note, I found this video pretty hilarious (if you're an old-school Nintendo player)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxisCxQJ7w4

This one is also kinda entertaining, although not quite as much. Hmm, maybe racing should be a game type in BF2? Heh

Heyo, fellow members. We didn't have a session this week, making it the first time we haven't had a session. It was because of 1) lack of people, and 2) the fact I was a little busy in the evening and couldn't spare the time.

An impromtpu make-up session was to be held on Saturday afternoon, but I had to go somewhere at the last minute, which held me up for the greater part of the afternoon, so that session never came to be either.

Ah, oh well. There's always next time!

randomwab Jul 16, 2006 11:01 AM

I bought this the other day and patched up to 1.42 but there are like no servers :(

Freelance Jul 16, 2006 11:03 AM

1.42? Is that the beta patch? Well, it's no wonder there's no servers. Now you have to basically reinstall the entire game w/patches to get it back to it's pre-beta state. Ouch.

Well, now you know, eh?

randomwab Jul 16, 2006 12:19 PM

I lied, there are a few, and always at least 1 server that is pretty much full, but i'm finding I have a lack of patience for the game, much like I have had with Counter-Strike Source recently, if I die a few times in a row I get pissed and turn it off.

No wonder i'm dying though, i've only had the game a few days, have like 30ish points on my account so i'm still on the default rank.

Bleh, it'll take me awhile to get better and find everything there is to know about the game.

Freelance Jul 16, 2006 12:28 PM

Practice makes perfect, dontcha know. BF2 is way more fun than CSS though. Just stick at it and you'll have fun (eventually), and maybe you can join some of our sessions sometime :)

Unfortunately, since you installed the beta patch, the number of servers will be quite low. I'd recommend you switching back to the last patch, although that will require a big reinstall.

Jinn Jul 17, 2006 12:58 AM

Well, tragedy struck earlier today in the form of a fried hardrive. Until I get a replacement master drive, I'm afraid I won't be able to play.

However, I did take the liberty of creating a Battlefield 2 chat for all who wish to use it. It's named simply #bf2 on Xelium. If you have any question regarding this, feel free to PM me. I do have a few people in mind for OPs, Freelance Wolf being one of those people.

Ouch, sorry to hear about the harddrive. Sucks when that happens...actually, it's never happened to me really, but I've had a few close calls. Hope you kept backups of your stuff in any case...

Freelance Jul 17, 2006 06:15 AM

Reading about your HDD problem makes me realize I still need to back up more stuff to DVD in case it happens to me. I've burned lots of my videos just a few days ago, but I still have a lot of stuff left that I hafta preserve. Sucks if you lost anything.

As for the BF2 chat, as much as I'm honoured you'd like me to be ops, is there enough people around to warrant making a chatroom? We only have a few regulars :D Well, we'll see how it goes, hee hee. I haven't been to IRC in a while.

Six Machine Jul 17, 2006 04:34 PM

I borrowed a copy of this game from a friend until I can get my own. Is 1.3 the latest patch? Moreover, is this the one most people play? Last time I checked they released a patch that fucked up the game and most played the original version. That was a some time ago, though.

It was more of a "Well, I can do this in about a minute" situation, so I just went ahead and did so. I was thinking it would be more a place where BF2 players could gather on IRC-if they happen to be on-rather than it being an actual form of coordination for playing. I know sometimes it's easier to just talk and get to know each other for me on IRC instead of Xfire.

Freelance Jul 19, 2006 07:01 AM

Ah, too busy last night to go to IRC.

I think X-Fire is better off in the long run though. The good thing about it is that we can chat with each other during the game. Can't really do that in IRC.

All the same, I'll stick around IRC if we get people in there. Haven't been there since Urban Dead sorta blew up :(

Freelance Jul 24, 2006 07:52 AM

Ugh, I'd hate to double-post, but uh, it doesn't look like I have much of a choice here.

For those of you who don't know yet, the team hasn't had any sessions for the last two (or was it three?) weeks. Now, don't get me wrong. It's not because we're breaking up and don't care for the game anymore. It was due to reasons out of our control. Hey, it happens to anyone.

Taco's new PC is currently BORKED (that's what he said), so until his PC is not BORKED, the sessions will be postponed. Things should pick up once Kamui comes back from his vacation, and when Taco's PC is no longer BORKED. Hey, I like that word...

This is just an update to let you other people know what's going on.

Oh, and once I figure it out, I want to update the BF2 information in GFFWiki.

garthvadr3 Jul 24, 2006 08:12 AM

I have been really buisy also and havn't been able to play much, but I should be able to play this Friday, at least as of now I think I can. So, if anyone still wants to attempt a session Friday I am up for it.

Solis Jul 24, 2006 04:53 PM

Yeah, 2 weeks without sessions now. Seems like noone has been on at the right times, and our rescheduling to Saturday never seems to pull through, grr. Oh well, we should be back to normal soon hopefully.

Mana Knight Jul 24, 2006 05:17 PM

Bf2
Im down with playing some Bf. My name: "AliceInChainGuns", Rank: Corporal,
Kit: Assault. Sorry if my post is a bit late. Im always in for a good game of Bf! Let me know when the games begin!

Kamui Jul 24, 2006 07:52 PM

Well if you see some GFF members online and not playing, just PM them to form up a squad or start a game and tell them to come.

And we mostly chat through xfire since it allows to communicate with each others without interruptping a particular gaming session.

Thalin Jul 26, 2006 04:00 PM

Just to let you guys know, if you are recently experiencing constant freezes and disconnects from servers like I am, it's a recent gay(punk)buster problem. See here http://totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84620

randomwab Jul 26, 2006 05:42 PM

I moved up my first rank tonight after a pretty good game. I'm so proud :)

quazi Aug 6, 2006 11:02 AM

Has anyone here tried the special forces update? Vehicles are something I never really enjoyed in games much and aside from the ridiculous system requirements, it's what annoys me most about Battlefield 2.

Freelance Aug 6, 2006 11:20 AM

There's a special forces update? I haven't been keeping up with BF2 news lately. I don't mind vehicles, as I on occasion use them myself, but I do prefer infantry.

Well hopefully we will begin resuming our weekly sessions as early as...this week. At least, that's what Taco says.

I realize we never once played Special Forces together, ever. We (ie, the people who have it) should get together someday for some Warlord lovin'.

quazi Aug 6, 2006 12:40 PM

Err, by update I meant the expansion. I guess my post seems a little confusing.

Freelance Aug 6, 2006 12:58 PM

Oh yes, that makes sense then. Yup, I have Special Forces, and so does a few other members here. We never play it in our weekly sessions though. We usually get someone playing who doesn't have it.

Special Forces is fun. There are some maps that I liked, and they were centered on infantry too, which is good. Have you tried the Amoured Fury booster pack? It's got great maps, but it is armour heavy though, which will probably not interest you.

Kamui Aug 6, 2006 02:21 PM

Back home at last!

We can resume our gaming sessions :D

Freelance Aug 9, 2006 08:57 AM

Wanna get together this Friday? Try to meet up on X-Fire then. Tata!

Freelance Aug 11, 2006 07:01 PM

Yeah okay, see what you force me to do 'cause you guys don't post?

There will be a session tonight at 10 EST. Yes, so if you wanna join, go to X-Fire close to that time.

See you there...or not!

Update! Okay, so there were a total of three of us who came last night, and even with few people, we still had lots of fun. Unfortunately, my attempts to blow up things with the TOW have proved to be in vain. Nuts. Oh well, better luck next time. I need 559 points left to rise up to the status of Gunnery Sergeant.

Solis Aug 15, 2006 06:34 AM

Thought this should be of interest to those who still play this game:

"We have been informed that the 1.4 Patch will be released tomorrow (August 15th) around 1pm EST/6pm GMT"
http://planetbattlefield.gamespy.com/

Hopefully this is true, if so make note to download the patch later today, especially if you plan on attending the next friday gathering. It includes a new map and hopefully fixes a number of bugs that have cropped up in the game.

So sorry Freelance Wolf, looks like you'll have to install another patch so soon after reinstalling the game ;)

Freelance Aug 15, 2006 06:38 AM

I can't even install 1.3 without burning/deleting more stuff first :( Either that or I have some other problems.

But yay! We must play NEW MAP on Friday! It cool and awesome and stuff.

Solis Aug 15, 2006 03:48 PM

Doh, looks like the patch has been DELAYED (leave it to EA to delay even patches)

Quote:

Community Update - 8/15/06

Greetings Everyone, As many of you are now aware we have made the choice to take some extra time with the 1.4 patch before release.

During our standard final processing of the 1.4 client update we came across an issue that, although it does not compromise stability, we felt needed to be addressed in order to meet our goal of improving the overall player experience with Battlefield 2.
Rats, no idea how long it will take for the patch to be out now. Hopefully whatever issue they're talking about will be quick to fix. Hopefully they'll take care of the major issues with this patch though, since the last few have added a few bugs to the game.

Freelance Aug 15, 2006 06:56 PM

Yayy!!! My BF2 problems HAS BEEN SOLVED!! I'm all set to play on Friday!!

P.S. Sucks that the patch has been delayed. I was hoping to play the new map in this weeks session.

Solis Aug 15, 2006 10:10 PM

Cool, last thing we needed was for ANOTHER person to be out of commission. That would've been almost the entire group!

And yeah, not sure what's up with the patch. Oh well, something to look forward to at least.

KrazyTaco Aug 17, 2006 11:49 PM

My computer is kicking and back in commission, and I must say, BF2 is a whole new game with the right hardware. Did this today on a full 64 man server

garthvadr3 Aug 18, 2006 05:45 AM

well I just kinda moved back to Florida so I was out of commission for about a week. Seems like things are settling down again so I can probably play this week, As long as nothing comes up.

Freelance Aug 19, 2006 12:14 AM

Heh, thanks to everyone who made it for tonight's session. We hopped onto a server only to find out the people on our side sucked : / We were getting raped in every bloody round, so I forced everyone to go to another server, in which Taco had to go shortly after. Luckily for us, our side was infinitely much better than the other server, and we won all rounds in Taco's absence. Poor Taco didn't get to bask in the glory of our victories.

garthvadr3 Aug 19, 2006 08:32 AM

damn, I forgot to check in and play because I was too busy trying to set up my new cell phone plan. eeerrg :(

Lukage Aug 19, 2006 12:07 PM

I work Fridays so I logged some hours last night in the late night hours. Top Medic and top Resupply and heal! :p

Locke Aug 19, 2006 01:29 PM

Oooh - I've been playing a downloaded copy of BF2 for awhile, but finally got tired of slaugtering computer after computer.

Is it worth it to get the game and play online? these are my system specs:

Athlon 64 3700+
1GB PC3200 RAM
GeForce 7600 GT
Plenty of HDD space (200GB+)

Freelance Aug 19, 2006 01:41 PM

Erm, yes. Playing online is a gazillion times better than playing single, so yes, buy it. NOW.

Locke Aug 19, 2006 02:18 PM

Like right now?

lol - I'll check out the EBGames that is on my way back from work - if that fails, i'll get it online.

Wow, that'd be awsome if you started playing Locke! Go for it, buy that shit!

We play every Friday nights EST. If we have too few people at that time, then we call it off for next week. That usually never happens though unless people's PCs are BORKED or they're on vacation or whatnot.

Locke Aug 20, 2006 08:33 AM

I bought it last night on my way home from work - I'm LockeXavier

I got the deluxe edition, so I have Special Forces as well.

I don't think it drains resources too much. I pretty much have X-Fire on every day.

Okay, here are some rules concerning our weekly sessions. Please abide by them if you play with us:

1. I am the ferret mascot. Therefore, I am cute.
2. The Devil's Spawn, er I mean Kubra Dam, is banned. We play every other map.
3. Act silly. It's more fun that way.
4. Vehicles are jinxes.

Just something to keep in mind in case you guys see some suspicious behavior. It seems even BF2 isn't sacred anymore.

I've started noticing more of this bullshit popping up recently, so if you see something odd, like the massive vehicle drops, one good idea is to check peoples' pings. High ones are obviously going to be sending a lot of info at once, and I'm sure you can all do the math.

Kamui Aug 23, 2006 08:03 PM

Those hacks have to be setup on a non-ranked server.. Probably private ones full of dumb kiddies.

Skexis Aug 23, 2006 08:18 PM

Good to know, but I've seen the commander hack being used on ranked servers, so it follows that the others might be as well.

BIGWORM Aug 24, 2006 04:29 PM

I hope someone here besides is up for the BF2142 beta on fileplanet. I'm downloading it right now. Hopefully I'll see some of you guys on it. I'll be sure to make it to the next session though.

Freelance Aug 26, 2006 07:42 PM

Why don't you all who want to play but can't play tell us what time you can play in EST, so we can (hopefully) work out a schedule to accomindate(sp?) everyone? Here's my schedule to start things off:

I go to bed from Saturday to Wednesday at 11 pm.
I am off on Fridays and Saturdays, so I can stay up later, which therefore makes it the best time for me to play (Thursday and Friday night)

The new patch (1.4) hasn't come out yet. It was going to come out, but they pushed it back to correct more stuff.

KrazyTaco Aug 27, 2006 12:35 AM

Actually they probably pushed it back to make it LOOK like they're working on it. Reality is the patch software just sits compiled and ready to go at any moment >_>

Monday through Friday i'm up for a game between the hours of ~8 PM to 11PM. I prefer to have GFF group events on Saturday though, where I'm home basically the entire day.

Actually, this information is still in the first post of this thread.

Just a shot I got of someone apparently having a lot of fun. Seems to pop up more often on Wake.

As an added bonus, because 2142 uses the same engine as BF2, there are hacks out already for the beta, and I imagine you can expect them to continue into the commercial release. One reason I don't think I'll be getting 2142. At least not right away.

Thalin Sep 5, 2006 03:14 PM

OK, the 1.4 patch is finally out, be sure to grab it.

Skexis Sep 5, 2006 03:34 PM

Glory be to the highest, I thought they'd never get it done. Getting it now.

Looks like they increased the armor on the support choppers, which is good, but they still need to bring the miniguns back up to par. I don't like armored floating caskets any more than regular ones.

Skexis Sep 5, 2006 11:38 PM

Just so you guys know what to expect: a lot of people are complaining at the BF2S forums, saying that prone/crouch/jump mechanics are messed up, not just for exploiters, but for everybody else, too.

I honestly didn't notice when I played, so chances are if you don't prone spam or dolphin dive, it won't be a problem. I can't help but be a little worried about using Support now, though.

I think most of the exploit problems would be fixed if they just made prone take away a bit of your stamina when you hit the dirt.

Freelance Sep 6, 2006 04:10 AM

When I did a test run last night, I didn't notice anything different while playing Support. Then again, I never usually notice these things anyway :3

Yeah I missed out too, maybe next time if they put some more up.

garthvadr3 Sep 8, 2006 03:20 PM

I got a key. What do you guys that have played 2142 think of it overall? I personally am really dissapointed with the state of the game so far. Now I understand that it is a beta, but there are some key things that are wrong with the game that shouldn't be like:
1) The controls actually seem to lag. For instance, when I press the run button, it seems like it tries to perform the operation twice, thus making the process of initiating a run laggy, The same goes for switching weapons, shooting manuevering, and any other action in the game. This miffs me because, how many Battlefield gamers have they made? The control scheme is basically the same thing in all of them. Why is it screwed up now? they should have it down by now. Especially since its a public beta and people are supposed to test the game. I can't even get to the testing part because it controls so badly I can't stand the game.
2)The tanks control too slowly, are too floaty and don't do enough damage. How many times should I have to shoot an infantryman with a tank round before he goes down??
3)The game overall seems to lag A LOT, but I don't mean graphical lag, I am talking serious, we are jumping back and forth in time internet lag.
4) All aiming systems are fubar. It is too hard to aim because they tried to design these stupid flashy aiming reticles that just end up getting in the way and not being accurate. The scope on the assault gun, as soon as you start shooting lights up with this annoying blue muzzle flash that thereafter disables you from seeing the fuck target you are trying to aim on thus making the scope USELESS.
5)The VTOL Jet/helos control amazing though, contrary to the crap that infests the rest of the games control.
6)There is no chart showing your rotation when you are in a walker, noway to tell your alignment of the head to the legs. The walker should have one just like the tank does.
7)Titans die way too fast.

Overall the game has major potential but oh my god EA/Dice get on the ball and get it right. Let me knjow your testing opinions.

Also, anyone up for BF2 tonight?

Kamui Sep 8, 2006 03:23 PM

I GOT NO KEYYYYY

WOOUAAAAHAHH

Inhert Sep 8, 2006 03:30 PM

I got one too ^^ I'm curently downloading the game so after the install I'll try it out ^^ I juts hope it's not too demanding for my comp XD

garthvadr3 Sep 8, 2006 04:07 PM

it runs pretty well on my Athlon 64 3500+, Nvidia 7800GS, SB Audigy 2ZS, 2gig of DDR3200 ram. AA is not as big an issue in this one cause it has a cleaner look than BF2.

BIGWORM Sep 8, 2006 05:11 PM

It's also disappointing to see the beta being over on the 12th. Obviously they should extend that. Even the 2nd client has it's major bugs. DICE definitely needs to work on the netcode, because even "green light" games have SEVERE lag to the point it's unbareable. Either DICE extends the beta to fine-tune (further) the Gold release, or this game will forever be deemed a mod in beta stage.

Inhert Sep 8, 2006 05:22 PM

etheir my computer suck or the game is really unstable, it's be the 5 time the game close to desktop when entering a game...

ok I give up I cant play the game, everytime I enter a game, I canmove for like 10sec and then the game close up... this suck...

Just finished our session:

In my opinion, I think tonight's session was the best one yet. Not only did we get a lot more players participating than normal, but several of us earned some awesome medals/badges. Despite that fact that we were split up between armies, we had a blast. Let's hope we have as much fun in future sessions!

The players in tonight's session were me, Taco, Thalin, Kamui, Star, Garth, Random and Solis. Thanks for making it, you guys!

Without further ado, here is the list of what was awarded to our players:

Me: Vet Support Combat and Gold medal. This is actually my FIRST GOLD EVER. Am I excited? DAMN RIGHT I AM!

Garth: Gold medal.

Kamui: Ground Defense ribbon.

Solis: Did some major whoop ass in the heli. Yes.

We rock. Fact.

P.S. Here's a screengrab:

man. I agree. Great game guys, I really had a good time. My first session since I moved back to FL, and a great welcome back.

KrazyTaco Sep 8, 2006 09:31 PM

And I was awarded nothing :/

Ah well, I'm only about 16 gameplay hours away from getting a bunch of stuff ^_^

Kamui Sep 9, 2006 12:30 PM

A small precision :)

I got the Ground Defense Ribbon, not basic :P

I actually obtained it at the same time as Wolfie did... cuz I pinned her down 3 times in a row :P

My mistake. I shall fix it. Kamui is like, evil.

I got more good news too though. I got promoted to Gunnery Sarge today, but the damn stats isn't updating yet. I got promoted twice already >:/

Update: I got promoted! Whooo!

Basic and Veteran Pistol Badge!

As well as the Explosive Ordinance Badge! (Basic)

EDIT: Basic Command harhar :P

Skexis Sep 12, 2006 12:02 AM

So even though the 2142 beta is already over, I hear rumblings that a demo may not be too far behind. One guy who was running a beta server copied his notice from the hosting company saying that they would be taking it down because the beta was ending, and that a demo would be coming pretty soon.

Guesstimation puts it on the file servers Oct. 1, but that's pure speculation.

I have to say, even though I like the gameplay, and I actually liek the fact that it's harder to get kills, the shitty technical support we've been getting in BF2 isn't exactly giving a lot of incentive for me to throw more money at EA and Dice.

RacinReaver Sep 12, 2006 12:37 AM

Isn't that the same kind of technical support there was behind Battlefield 1942 in the first place? =\

Skexis Sep 12, 2006 12:40 AM

I couldn't really tell you, because I never played 1942 in its heyday.

The kind of constant bugginess and generally shitty user interface problems that have plagued the game can be tolerated, but I don't want to reward them for rushing the product out of the testing phase.

Animechanic Sep 12, 2006 12:54 AM

2142 is probably being rushed out so it can compete with the other Battlefield-y games coming out this season. Namely, Crysis and Quake Wars: Enemy Territory.

BIGWORM Sep 12, 2006 01:57 AM

Pfft. After playing the 2142 beta, Quake Wars looks tasty and somewhat stable. I expect patches a la Tribes 2, where the patch is bigger than the installation size itself. Ha, now that I think about, the 1.4 patch for BF2 is almost half-way there. Dispicable.

garthvadr3 Sep 13, 2006 05:23 PM

anyone else get laggyness in the controls on 2142. for me it was ruining the game. I would press run and it would run a second later, unlike bf2, where it runs when you press the run button. The same goes for most other functions also, like crouch prone, and sometimes even shooting.

Seems like I might be sticking to BF2.

Solis Sep 13, 2006 06:16 PM

Hope there is a way to pirate BF2142. I'm never planning on buying a game like that at release, but that's the best time to get into it since that's before anyone can figure out any major bugs/glitches/exploits (although the recent beta might have already nullified that). Otherwise I'll wait until I can get it for under $20 maybe, although EA games are ridiculous when it comes to price drops so that'll be like a year away when they're already coming out with BF3 or the dozenth booster pack to 2142.

Compete? AHAHHAHAAHAHHAAHHAAHAHAHHA

Animechanic Sep 13, 2006 09:41 PM

Hehe, true. Although, I bet by the time it comes out it will be more or less the same as BF2 in terms of gameplay. If that's the case, I'll probably just stick to Bf2 anyway.

He was actually referring to BF2142 not being able to compete with Quake Wars. That seems to be the general opinion of most, and for good reason >_>

BIGWORM Sep 14, 2006 09:28 PM

Yeah, very good reason. I think BF2 and BF2142 needs more of an emphasis on squad, not just "join squad, spawn on squad leader" attitude that is has.

Kamui Sep 15, 2006 02:08 PM

Sadly, most online FPS need more of that attitude...

Animechanic Sep 15, 2006 02:11 PM

That's why I play with my clan. Well, when I can.

It's pretty amazing how much damage an organized squad can do.

One of the reasons I liked Natural Selection so much. Teamwork is mandatory in that game, you'll be quickly yelled at if you try running off on your own when you're put in a squad and told to do something.

KrazyTaco Sep 15, 2006 07:48 PM

One problem though, Leeroy Jenkins didn't mind getting yelled at >_>

That makes 6 expert badges. Working on Expert Assault next.

RacinReaver Sep 16, 2006 11:16 AM

Hey guys, question.

My roommate has a copy of Battlefield 2 he's willing to let me use the key for (since he doesn't play it anymore), but I don't have a DVD drive. Do you think the game will work for online multiplayer if I download an image, install with his key, and use a no-cd crack for it (actually, I guess I could always just play with it mounted forever, but this would be easier)?

Freelance Sep 16, 2006 11:25 AM

I've no idea if that would work, but maybe someone else here would be better able to answer that.

Yes, there was a session last around around 9:30 or so. We had a good turnout as before, but we didn't win any awards other than Solis getting two Bronze medals. Oddly, once Taco left our session, the rounds got worse. Hmmm....

I sincerely doubt it, and I wouldn't try it, since there's always the possibility of being blacklisted. I have seen people getting kicked before by punkbuster for being logged in in two places, so I suppose it's possible.

RacinReaver Sep 16, 2006 12:00 PM

What would I get blacklisted for, though? I mean, he's quit the game and has no interest in playing again and if he did, he would be sitting right next to me and we'd kinda know if the other was using the account.

Skexis Sep 16, 2006 12:02 PM

Well, for running the game with a crack, I mean. They may shoot first and ask questions later.

You'll have to let me know if this works for you, because I downloaded a DVD iso of the game a while back, since I didn't want to mess with 3 or 4 CDs, and never tried it out afterwards.

Solis Sep 16, 2006 01:05 PM

Yes, this is possible. But you don't use a crack for it, all you need to do is install the game (through the network or whatever), and then you can install Daemon Tools and mount a "mini-image" of BF2 (it's roughly 5MB). The mini-image gets by the disc check at the start, and there's no way for them to detect whether or not you're using an actual disc or the image. I've been using it for over a year now and it's worked beautifully, I really don't want to have to swap out discs every time I play BF2.

I can't find the link to the image though, if nothing else I can put it up on sendspace for you.

Skexis Sep 16, 2006 04:02 PM

There's one here, but it says you have to use a runaround like antiblaxx to avoid blacklisting, so...

RacinReaver Sep 16, 2006 10:17 PM

Think I'd be alright just leaving the whole DVD image mounted? That's not really a huge hassle for me and might be easier than messing with what could be problematic mini-image things.

Edit: Ack, looks like I need to use the mini-image since it doesn't recognize the dvd after installation. :(

Solis Sep 17, 2006 12:34 AM

The mini-image won't cause any problems, it just contains the security information of the main disc (which isn't contained when you rip the disc). I have it mounted in Daemon Tools and I've never had any issues with it. I uploaded it to sendspace if you want it:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/u2aozu

RacinReaver Sep 18, 2006 01:56 PM

Sweet, the image worked and I was able to play a few games without a problem. Managed to get a basic badge in Spec Ops and Anti-Tank as well as my first promotion (yay PFC) right before I finished for the night. I wasn't able to join a squad on any of the servers I played on, do you have to be a certain rank in order to do that?

Animechanic Sep 18, 2006 02:19 PM

Hmm... never heard of a rank restriction before, and I doubt all of the squads were locked (marked by a little padlock icon). Were you trying to join squads before spawning or while you were dead? A couple of patches ago they made it so you can only join squads while you're alive (to stop the phenomenon known as squad rotation).

RacinReaver Sep 18, 2006 04:39 PM

Ahh, that's what it was, then. In the demo you could join squads while dead, so I'd always do it then so I wouldn't get killed by someone while that massive screen was up.

Also just played their new version of Wake Island. It's amazing how that map could be perfect in BF1942 but now it felt miserable with the helicopters and artillery crushing my team the whole time. That's actually the one thing I've felt ever since I started playing the demo is that artillery shouldn't be able to shoot nearly as often as it does. It makes it too easy to just whomp on a base.

Skexis Sep 18, 2006 04:48 PM

Many servers you'll find have rules about entering or attacking uncappables, but it's always kind of a crapshoot as to whether they enforce them or not.

It's one of the things about Point of Existence that is very nice: you can turn a feature on or off to harm enemies when they enter an uncappable, the same way BF2 harms you if you go out of bounds.

Animechanic Sep 18, 2006 04:59 PM

Heh, amazing what simple things EA didn't think of.

Instead they went and made a whole new game using the same engine (BF2142) where the spawn points are protected by force fields. Good job EA!

BIGWORM Sep 18, 2006 05:08 PM

I don't know if the question was answered or not, but I've been running a downloaded copy with a legit key for quite some time now. My 2nd disc was severely scratched by my 2 year old son, so I have to download it every time I reformat. You'll be fine.

Oddly enough I found the BF2 version to be mor balanced... Tanks are not nearly as dangerous since there's enough elevation in the terrain to take cover. And aircrafts are not nearly too bad if you got good pilots to keep them busy.

Artillery = best friend for spec ops :D free points and complete annoyance for the commander ^___^

Skexis Sep 18, 2006 05:50 PM

Hey, guys, forgot to mention this before, but for those of you looking at BF2142, you might as well check out this contest: http://forums.fevergaming.com/showthread.php?t=88935

Just answer a trivia type question about 2142 each day for a chance to win a free 2142 CD key. Winners are drawn randomly from the PMs that guy receives, at noon central each day until the game is released. Pretty cool, I must say.

KrazyTaco Sep 18, 2006 11:26 PM

Solis is some sort of good luck charm or something.

The round he came in I got a shiny Veteran First Aid badge. Weeeeew.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...etfirstaid.gif

I have alot more awards that are bound to crop up in the next week or so. Alot of awards I've met all the qualifications for except total time played. Most awards will mature when I play for another 5 hours. So in the next two weeks I'm planning on obtaining:

Rank:
First Sergeant

Badges:
Expert Engineer Badge? (I may not have enough IAR repair points yet, time matures in ~2 hours though)

Medals:
Combat Infantry Medal: Need 4.5 more hours
Navy Cross: Need 7.5 USMC playhours

Ribbons:
Legion of Merit Ribbon? (Need 4.5 more hours, not sure if I've gotten the required 50 Team Points IAR, shouldnt be to hard to get if not though)

And with the promotion, I'll be getting the last gun that I hold interest in, the P90 Anti-Tank unlock. From my limited firing experiance in-game with it and my vast experiance in being shot by it, I think I'll fall in love with the thing and it will replace the DAO-12 as my love gun when obtained.

BIGWORM Sep 19, 2006 12:09 AM

Any possible chance I can get a list of badges and time releases for them?

KrazyTaco Sep 19, 2006 12:13 AM

Yep, just go to http://www.bf2s.com and do a search for your name. Near the bottom it lists them all with your progress towards each one.

There's also UBAR (http://ubar.bf2s.com/), which is a subsection of the same site that is specifically the requirements for stuff and nothing else.

There are other sites as well, but I've never seen one that's as polished and factually complete as BF2S and UBAR.

BIGWORM Sep 19, 2006 12:41 AM

Nice. All this badge talk is making me download it again and get them. ^^

Animechanic Sep 19, 2006 02:17 AM

Ugh... I'm stuck in the 1st Sgt. no man's land of rank-ups. For some reason it is the biggest gap between ranks, 30,000 points. It is tied with the Colonel -> Brigadier General gap for largest, and all of the ranks between here and there, and even after, are smaller. They all range from 10,000 to 25,000.

Also, in kit badges, I got my expert engineer badge, so now I'm left with expert badges for all the other kits. Each of which requires 100 hours as that kit.

The bright spot is, if I run over 5 guys in a round, I get veteran transport, and I can always get the ground and air defense badges, since they took out the time requirements. Still, it's gonna be soooo loooonng before I see another rank up.

Oh, here is me: http://bf2s.com/player/44867686/

Really? That's what I was under the impression Gunnery > First was :P In any case, my goal for sometime now has been to acheive First Sergeant, and then stop worrying. Since I'm not SUPER active in the game, I never expected to go any higher than First Sergeant, infact I wasn't even sure I would go any higher than Gunnery for a bit of time. I don't intend on experting anything other than engineer and maybe Anti-Tank. The game is crazy if it expects me to play as sniper for 100 hours.

Animechanic Sep 19, 2006 02:29 PM

Gunnery Sarge to 1st Sarge = 12,000
1st Sarge to Sgt. Major = 30,000

When you get to 1st Sarge, you have a total score of 20,000. So just imagine, you have to do all the playing you have done thus far in the game, plus another half, to get to the next rank at 50,000.

gaming Sep 19, 2006 04:59 PM

One question guys:
Can you continue your current rank from BF2 in BF2142 or do you have to start from the beginning again?

Thanks to anyone who answers :)

Animechanic Sep 19, 2006 05:10 PM

You start over. If you register with the BF2 veterans program, you start with one promotion.

whoo.

Heh, that pretty much cements that I'm not getting Sgt. Major then. It's a good thing once I have First that I'll have all the guns I want (Basically everything except the 3rd Engy and both Snipers)

The vets program made me laugh. "2142 will be greatly enchanced if returning soldiers already experianced particpiate." Something to the tune of that was on the Vets page, and I was like, "Well no duh, this is the exact same game with different models." Hey guys, if you buy our $50 mod, you get an icon next to you're name :edgarrock:

Animechanic Sep 19, 2006 06:32 PM

The best part is, I registered a name just in case I decide to ever get it. The name I wanted was taken, so I made a new one with two words connected by an underscore. When I played the 2142 beta, names with underscores couldn't be used.

So, EA might have let me register a name I can't even use. Awesome huh?

Freelance Sep 19, 2006 08:28 PM

Going from Gunnery Sarge to 1st is going to take literally forever, so I doubt I will ever get it. Sadly, although the game remains the best multiplayer game ever (my opinion only >_>), I don't play it very often anymore, thanks to the many other awesome games I have that I also want to play. I have to juggle between them all to get some playtime done, and that's not entirely a good thing : / It's a good thing we're having these sessions every week though :3

garthvadr3 Sep 20, 2006 11:18 PM

Yo I just got the Combat Action Medal tonight. Wow what a tough one to get. You need 25,000 kills, a kill streak of at least 25 which mine is 29, 250 hours, and 33 minutes minimum in a single battle. The 33 minute requirement is hard because most battles only last about 20 minutes.

KrazyTaco Sep 21, 2006 07:29 PM

Time requirements are easy, just need to find the right server. I find going to 64 max player servers that only have about 10 people in there really nice. There's so little action going on that the game just drags on and on.

garthvadr3 Sep 21, 2006 09:45 PM

yea, thats true but I wanna have some fun while I do it :) especially since I don't get a chance to play as often as I used to.

StarmanDX Oct 6, 2006 06:58 PM

Whooo, got to Gunnery Sargeant today before tonight's session, only now I'm not sure which unlocks to pick. I'm trying to decide between the MP7, MG36, and the DAO-12.

I've not heard particularly good things about the MP7, but it would be nice to have a ranged weapon as an Engineer sometimes. And on paper the MG36 doesn't look as good as the PKM, but a lot of people seem to like it better.
And of course the DAO is an excellent weapon, but I'm not a huge fan of the Anti-Tank class - I mostly just use it to defend a base specifically when an armor is attacking.

Anyone playing BF2142 demo. Wow It is awful, the guns are less acurate than a flung sausage bomb. Anyway, I am happy to say I will stick with BF2 thankyou very much.

Solis Oct 6, 2006 07:46 PM

Demo for 2142 can be had here at super-fast speeds, for those who want to try it:

http://videogames.yahoo.com/predownload?eid=486062

garthvadr3 Oct 6, 2006 08:02 PM

did you play it yet Solis?

Solis Oct 6, 2006 08:35 PM

Still in the process of downloading it, I'll need to let this one run overnight.

Also I should've mentioned that the demo is about 1.08 gigs, so expect it to take a while if you aren't on a super-fast connection.

Yah... the auto I tried, the one with assault, was atrocious at aiming, you basically have to be crouched to aim it well. The guided rockets didn't seem to be able to follow my mouse movements that well either. Also, no matter where you hit the mech, it takes about 4-5 shots to bring it down, so basically you spend your entire clip of rockets on one walker.

If you grab it off fileplanet with a basic regged account, you can pull it down at speeds of capped 250 kb. Took me about an hour and a half.

I only played one round, so maybe Im judging to soon, but honestly it confirmed what I orginally thought, just more of the same. I would buy it if it were say 20 dollars, about the price of an X-Pack, but $50? Don't kid yourselves EA.

garthvadr3 Oct 6, 2006 09:26 PM

I really enjoy BF2's gameplay way more so I think I will just stick to BF2 , besides it has its own Mods coming out now. POE anyone:)

Do you need a key to try out BF2142 demo...?

Sparhawke Oct 8, 2006 03:17 AM

nope, but you do have to make an account with EA

Cobalt Katze Oct 8, 2006 04:50 AM

I've actually rather enjoyed the BF2142 demo so far.

I never really enjoyed the Battlefield series for whatever reason, but I guess I like the whole futuristic spin on things. I'm a sucker for not-real weapons.

randomwab Oct 8, 2006 06:07 AM

I'm enjoying the Titan mode. It's alot more interesting than just keeping flags to win. Having to board the enemy ship and destroy it, then escape, it's so much more interesting. However, i'm having trouble changing and equiping items :(

Inhert Oct 8, 2006 08:58 AM

I really like both game, BF2 is more "tactical", you kind of need to know a minimum what you're doing, but what I like about BF2142 is that it's a little more arcade, so I kind of tend to like it more XD and again I just love futuristic games.

and yeah the Titan mode is so awesome!, that's why I kind of play more the demo than BF2 now XD if they do something like that in BF2 i'll be sure to play it too XD

I think bf2142 give more importance to vehicles and I kind of like that too ^^ man I love the hover tank XD and I so love the pods thing that I always spaw in the titan just to use the escape pods XD

Slayer X Oct 8, 2006 09:06 AM

I'm loving the demo for 2142 myself. Inhert pretty much hit the difference between the two and I tend to like more arcaic typ games myself (except when it comes to fighting games). I like how 2142 also feels a bit faster too. My only conflict with it is that there needs to be more grenades & sticky bombs for the assault and scout roles. Other then that...

Men, CHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGE!!! !!!

garthvadr3 Oct 8, 2006 05:36 PM

Thats funny, most peoples complaints in the BF forums (and mine also) is that the soldiers are slower, and the vehicles are slower (esp. the tanks). They seriously feel like you are navigating a hovering Old Ironsides from way back when.

Skexis Oct 8, 2006 06:42 PM

I think by fast they mean that the action is a bit more arcade-like. BF2 is definitely more realistic, so there's not much in the way of the "heat of battle," if you know what I mean. Often times, you'll be dead before you know what hit you.

The thing I do like about 2142 is that it does cater a bit to the cinematic experience. When you get in a walker and hear the servos whining as you take your first few baby steps, or when you take your first launch pod onto the enemy titan and begin boarding, you get a sense that you're important to the cause as a soldier.

BF2, I would say, goes great lengths to make you dispensable.

I'll buy the game once the price goes down to 30 bucks or below, but it came out much too soon for me to want to spend more money on it. The few cheap thrills I do get from bringing down an enemy walker or grabbing the dogtags from a downed enemy aren't worth all the trouble I'll bet dice will cause with support.

KrazyTaco Oct 8, 2006 07:18 PM

One other thing I wanted to add about BF2142, is that I don't like how they've remodeled the various classes into just three. For whatever reason, the engineer now has anti-tank rockets. Assaultmen, you know, the guys leading the charge per say, now have control of med packs. That just seems a bit contradictory, that a guy who's supposed to be on the front line fighting also happens to have the responsibility of staying back and healing. I personally feel this will cause people to lose some desire towards healing people. Honestly, whats more fun shooting people or healing someone?

The Battlefield series has always been notorious for having no teamwork whatsoever when a large group of random people start playing together, true to any game really. BF2 made a nice first step by implementing the squad system, but it's not enough. I think 2142, with its arcady goals, has eliminated a bit of the edge towards teamwork that BF2 always lended itself to.

garthvadr3 Oct 8, 2006 07:40 PM

Yea, I think in all the games I have played in the demo and the beta, there has been pretty much no squad work. Even when I had some unlocks in the beta still no squad work.

It makes me sad cause I really liked that aspect of BF2.

Also, the fact that tEA eliminated all of you standard weapons and just made them unlocks is BS. ie. frag grenades, diflbrilators, ect...

I actually think I like that they restructured the classes into only 4 (not 3). They did a decent job of making it so that each class has a bit more worth and diversity: I mean anti-tank and Engineer in BF2 had similar guns (shotguns and SMGs), so now rather than having one entirely defensive and the other entirely offensive, an engineer can do either task and adapt to the situation. Also I think the equipment loadout (shame they're all locked in the demo) will more or less expand the classes to what they previously were except with more options. Like being able to have a sniper with C4 instead of satchels, etc.

It does seem a little odd that assault got medic abilities though, that seems to be something that would be more fitting for support. Then again, I can see why they did that since it does make the class more dynamic and forces you to choose whether you want to help in attacking or just heal other players (not to mention the second Medic unlock was almost the same as the US Assault gun in BF2).

BF2142 discussion aside for a moment.

I suppose you should also get it if you like being a turret gunner in a combat racing game.

Anybody else having trouble connecting to the Master server?
I can't even register :(

Inhert Oct 9, 2006 12:57 PM

if you talk about the BF2142 demo yeah it's a problem with the demo... some disconnection occur from the master server and kick you out of a game... (thought it really less frequent lately, I didn't get one disconnection last time I played)

gaming Oct 9, 2006 01:13 PM

They can at least tell the players that the servers are down by posting a note on the website. This server connecting has been going on for at least 2 hours.

I'm sure a lot of people are mad at the moment.

The two classes (Engineer and Anti-Tank) could play effectly both defensive and offensive roles. It's simply a matter of skill. As an engineer, you have mines, which are obviously your defense, and defending things with a shotgun is super-effective. Offensively, you just change your attack strategy. Instead of rushing head on like an assault would, you strategically make your way towards the enemy using cover from rocks and such so that your shotgun becomes useful. If that fails and your forced into a long-range battle, you're equipped with 4 grenades, and a pistol. The pistol is actually quite effective so long as you can aim it, which if I can just about anyone should be able to.

As for AT, it's basically the same thing. The default gun, the SMG, has poor power, but has more range if you fire in single shot mode as opposed to auto. Basically like firing a slightly souped up pistol. With AT you can generally charge in if theres only 2-3 people. As for long range, pull out your rockets. They call it Rocket Sniping, and it's the most fun and rewarding killing you can do. Aim your rockets, and fire away at the person aiming for you from the other side of the zone. Most of the time, you'll end up hitting and killing him before he can finish you off. AT obviously is also suited for Attack and Defense.

I think most already know how I feel about snipers. They are overpowered and aren't punished in any way for being a waste of space on the team. There should be no way the sniper can climb up 5 flights of stairs on a crane, and booby trap the last 2 on the way up, it make's him next to invincible.

Agreed. If they turned FF on for claymores, but left it off for mines, I think it would balance it out a little bit.
Or if you could blow up claymores with a grenade or c4 pack, that would really cut down on the spam and the overpowered snipers. Invincible claymores was a really retarded idea.

Honestly? Not really. I like the idea of a racer using the driving physics in BF2, but I'd have to see more modifications done a la Mario Kart or Twisted Metal before I took any interest in it.

Animechanic Oct 9, 2006 07:12 PM

KrazyTaco: I am not sure what you said about engineer class, but in this the focus is on the car racing. There is only a driver class, which gets a knife, pistol, wrench, and flare gun (a modded silenced pistol that now shoots aircraft defense flares. No real purpose, just there for entertainment value).

And this mod is by the Sir community. On the forums there is already a discussion of how to make being a spectator more exciting, and there is actually some code in the mod already for a lawn chair "vehicle" for spectators, so I'm pretty sure they plan to implement a lot more in the future. There is also talk of implementing a demolition derby game mode in a future release too.

Skexis: Most races use the USMC buggy, but modded. The driver gets the use of a hood-mounted mini-minigun to shoot at other drivers. If a second player wants to ride with you, they can man the .50 cal on the back. The third seat has been modded to remove the LMG, so you can repair your car without getting out of it.

There is also a slow-recharging but extremely powerful afterburner boost.

I hope that explains the mod a little better. It is a racing game, but shooting and ramming is very much a part of it. It is generally a lot more fun to shoot someone till they light on fire or explode than it is to just pass them.

Animechanic Oct 10, 2006 06:05 PM

I'm impressed. I was bored today so i tried sending my team's titan out of bounds. Strangely enough, there is code that makes it stop before it reaches the boundary. Bravo EA/Dice, you have surpassed my expectations of you.

BIGWORM Oct 10, 2006 07:24 PM

How the hell do you control the Titan, anyway? I've been playing this demo non-stop for the past few days, though I've found little people who have a microphone for Comms. Shall we get together for some matches? You can friend me with the name tzBIGWORM . Hope to see you guys on.

Kamui Oct 10, 2006 08:03 PM

In order to move the Titan, you have to be the Commander and use the right-click command to do so.

I tried manning some of the anti-air anti-surface guns on the TItan and it's pretty fun.

My beef remains the same though, action becomes choppy (maybe related to the movement of those monsters) once onboard of Titans.

BIGWORM Oct 10, 2006 08:54 PM

I only get choppiness during entrance and exit of the Titan.

RacinReaver Oct 11, 2006 11:10 AM

The titan combat reminds me a bit of Tribes, except that you need a computer about 20x as powerful to play it (and the lack of kickass jetpacks). =\/

Animechanic Oct 11, 2006 02:38 PM

BF2142 reminds me of a lot of stuff. They basically just ripped off every other sci-fi shooter in order to make their game.

The gunships, hovertanks, and walkers are straight out of Planetside, and I've heard a lot of people say how much certain things remind them of UT2K4, but I never played it so I don't really know.

KrazyTaco Oct 11, 2006 08:48 PM

Namely the Engineers repair gun looks alot like the link gun from UT2K4. I believe there were other similaritys I noticed, but thats the only one I remember off the top of my head.

In other news: Got my next, and what will probably be my last, promotion tonight. First Sergeant for the win.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...eantismine.gif

I forgot that since I have SF, I get 2 unlocks, which means I got the only 2 other guns that I even wanted, the MP-7 for engineers and the P-90 for Anti-Tank. All thats left to unlock is both snipers, which I honestly cant say I would pay 2 cents for.

garthvadr3 Oct 11, 2006 10:32 PM

actually, the 2nd sniper unlock is one of the best unlocks.

I just got my expert assault combat tonight. Wow that was crazy, now which expert badge to get next...

randomwab Oct 13, 2006 01:39 PM

I'm just gonna throw this out there. If you don't like it, throw it right back.

Battlefield 2142 tonight?

GFF takes down enemy titan.

Solis Oct 13, 2006 05:24 PM

Fine by me, I'm up for either game. 2142 has a few interesting mechanics, the squad combat seems to have a bit bigger focus with the whole titan mode and such. Just wish they didn't lock out all the good team equipment in the demo.

gaming Oct 15, 2006 12:21 PM

BF2142 question:

Latency somewhere between 500 and 1000. What is normal...?

Animechanic Oct 17, 2006 12:33 PM

Well, this is interesting:

So, I think I just won't buy it now. I was willing to tolerate the full game price for what was basically another mod, just as long as the game was good. But now it turns out, not only is it still full-game price, the are making extra money by putting ads in the game, and spying on your computer to do so. lol, I was waiting for someone to finally see my point of veiw on BF2142. I'm glad some people finally want to stick to EA. Maybe if they loose enough money on this one, they will actually make a real BF sequel and maybe wait more than a year to crank it out so it is actually good.

Yah, I didn't think in-game advertising would be that bad if it:
1) Lowered the total cost of the software (It doesn't for 2142)
2) Blended in with the game enviorment (It doesn't for 2142)
3) You can destroy/defile the ad (You can't in 2142, or so it looks like from that picture)

Despite all the EA bashing, you have to admire their courage to release the demo that kept people from spending money on this crap.

Animechanic Oct 17, 2006 08:51 PM

Okay, sounds like things have been blown out of proportion, as usual.

The general consensus I am seeing now, is that the program is not actually spyware that searches your computer for information about you. Instead it's a monitoring program that determines how long you look at an add in game. It also records your IP address, so it knows what adds to display (ads for American products if your IP adress is in the USA, ads for European products if your IP is European, etc.).

I'll admit that this is a lot better than previously thought, but it still doesn't change the fact that EA is forcing us to look at ads while not giving us any benefits in return.

BIGWORM Oct 17, 2006 09:24 PM

ANY possible way to modify the file to get rid of the ads? More than likely, hackers will have this "patch" within a couple of weeks. Here's hoping. =/

Solis Oct 17, 2006 09:48 PM

Man, I heard about that last night...that's just crazy. People already thought $50 was a ripoff for the mod...now it's a mod with spyware/adware as well? This is almost worse than EA selling cheat codes.

With any luck, the in-game ad software will use a different port than the game, in which case you can simply configure your firewall to block that port and it won't work at all.

Oh, but here's a writeup and response from the people that run the advertising software: http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/new...hp?story=11300. Here's a few more interesting parts of it, and my personal reflection:

Quote:

The time that each ad impression takes place is also recorded by IGA, alongside what type of ad content it was (billboard, megaboard, or video stream), the duration (how long was the ad seen for), the size of the ad relative to the player, and the angle of deflection (what angle the ad is viewed at).
Man, they go that in-depth in ad-viewing detection, and yet they can't make a decent single-player AI?

Quote:

Regarding today's online controversy, Townsend noted that "you are always going have that hardcore vocal minority" who don't want in-game ads. But he suggested that if those same people "knew the kind of painful transition that most publishers are going through right now", they might approve of in-game ads as an important financial support function for next-gen titles.
Yes, because we all know EA is just hurting for cash and would totally go bankrupt if they didn't start bundling adware with their $50 mods.

Quote:

Townsend explained that the company is "actually getting brands to do specific creative for games" to enable those brands to blend in better in the game.

Animechanic Oct 17, 2006 10:42 PM

Now I'm starting to wonder if that pic was photoshopped. It looks kind of odd. Not that I think real in-game adds would be any better. I remember playing the Verdun map in beta, and it had big bilboards everywhere with some generic logo on them. I'm sure they'd all be adds in the retail version.

Edit: Here's a bunch of screenshots of the placeholder textures for what will be adds

Kamui Oct 18, 2006 09:24 AM

Plain ridiculous... I hate in-game ads since they were introduced in Planetside and oh boy they didn't blend in at all.

Last thing I wanna hear is Lil wayne latest album coming through my headphones before a major battle EVEN THOUGH I turned off all sounds.

Fuck you EA, fuck you. Fuck to all those in-game ads. Not gonna shelve 50$ for a half-finished mod.

Hey, since Jinn doesn't seem to come here anymore, I will take over the thread from here on. Aren't you guys lucky?

As your new boss, I have some words to say to all of you. Now listen up, wot!

--

I've finally been able to register at GFFWiki. I was unable to register at home, but was able to do so at work. Don't ask me why or how that is. Anyway, I've taken the liberty of updating the Members list in our little BF2 section (thanks to me), since all that information is sorely outdated. I want you all to go check it out and see if the stuff I added in there are accurate and up-to-date. If your name is not on the list, it's most likely because you're new and I don't know you well enough yet. If that is the case, PM me with the info and I will add you sooner or later. Likewise, if you don't play anymore for whatever reason, then let me know and I shall remove you from the list.

P.S. 2142 only players do not count. This list only applies to BF2.

--

Now for other news. I was thinking of changing our sessions a little bit from here on. There's basically the core game, one expansion pack, and two booster packs. I was thinking that maybe we should rotate between them each week, so we can at least play other maps besides the core game now and then. I'm not sure how to implement this nicely though, since not everyone has the add-ons. How about this? If you can make a session for whatever reason, then let me know. If several people can't make the session, then I say the rest of us go play with the add-ons instead. With less people playing, I doubt anyone's really going to complain about that.

--

More news, wot!

We haven't had a session for two weeks. The first time it happened, we didn't get many players, so we played another game instead. The second time it happened, I was sick and couldn't play. Taco didn't want to play, and since we're the two ringleaders, the session didn't get off the ground. However, I am much better than I was a week ago, so I will definitely be able to play this week. I was going to propose that we try out BF2142, but due to the recent outrage over the in-game ads and spyware and crap, I doubt anyone really wants to play it anymore. What do you guys think? From what little I played of it, I didn't like it much, but what do I know? Maybe it'd be better if I was with more people.

--

Thanks for reading this incredibly long-winded post.

um... I have the demo of 2142, I refuse to buy the game because I just don't enjoy it, and its half-assed. I would play the demo with you guys this friday but I really would rather play BF2 or better yet, the MORE finished than 2142 mod, POE2.

PS: as far as expansions go, I have Special Forces and Euro Forces, I may buy Armored Fury soon.

Freelance Oct 19, 2006 06:02 AM

I love Euro Force for Great Wall, but Armored Fury rocks for Operation Harvest and Operation Road Rage. We need more American-based maps.

What say we guys play SF this Friday? It seems most of our members, save 1 or 2, has it, and at least two people may not make it for this session. I've only played SF maps with two members here so far.

Animechanic Oct 19, 2006 05:35 PM

Woohoo! I'm up for some Iron Gator. I haven't played that map in ages.

garthvadr3 Oct 19, 2006 05:37 PM

Any hope in everyone possibly downloading POE2? I promise the game is really good. The mechanics are a little more realistic i.e. the tanks get hit hardest in the back and treads, The guns have recoil but actually have predictable fire, The AA is awsome, the tanks have anti infantry and anti tank rounds. There are special kits you can pick up placed around the map. The commander has no arty, instead it is player controlled and player spotted, it requires more teamwork and more skill.

If you guys can please DL POE2 and maybe we can have a session next week. Not to mention it has multiple gameplay modes such as frontlines, destroy the nuke, and stock conquest.

It is awsome and you probably wont be dissapointed, the gfx actually look better than regular BF2.

SF sopunds good for tomorrow though.

Animechanic Oct 19, 2006 05:54 PM

Yeah, POE is one I had in mind when I suggested mods a couple posts back. So, I second this.

Freelance Oct 19, 2006 08:44 PM

If it's too realistic, I probably won't like it though. Well, I will see.

Okay, it seems two people are itching for some SF action. We'll go ahead with that unless I get lots of complaints. I want to play Iron Gator and Warlord. I heart those two maps.

garthvadr3 Oct 20, 2006 11:01 AM

no its not too realistic, it still has an arcadish feel but it takes away all the inconsistencies of BF2 like shity hit boxes and guns all of a sudden becoming inaccurate when you prone.

Get it, you wont be dissapointed.

Dont forget that there is a 1.5 patch for it.

Freelance Oct 20, 2006 07:16 PM

Okay...is anyone actually going to play tonight? Not many people are on X-Fire. f you get on, send me a message stating who you are in GFF. My username is freelancewolf.

garthvadr3 Oct 21, 2006 12:30 AM

It was a smaller group tonight but fun session anyway. Not really sure what medals everyone got so post em if you got em. I did get my promotion to 1st liutenant during our last round.

KrazyTaco Oct 21, 2006 01:12 AM

Since I rarely ever play SF, I got all of my SF Basic Specialist medals, but that's about it. It was pretty fun tonight, though I think I honestly prefer vanilla BF2 to SF.

Animechanic Oct 21, 2006 02:10 AM

I got veteran grappling hook and zipline just for starting a round of SF. I guess they changed the requirements somewhere along the way.

Sparhawke Oct 21, 2006 03:23 AM

I was struck with the no rank bug repeatedly and an interesting bug where the kit menu disappeared but still managed to have fun.
I didn't really care for the no vehicles option much.

Freelance Oct 21, 2006 07:48 AM

I got no medals and I didnt get to play Iron Gator much, but it was still fun. Iron Gator and Warlord are the only two maps in SF that I care about. Ghost Town is okay. Still, it's fun to play other maps for a change, instead of the same maps over and over in the basic BF2.

I think some maps are good for the no vehicle option, but terrible in others.

I agree, for instance, friggin 64 player maps without vehicles, eughhh, it takes forever to do anything, especially big open maps like Zatar Wetlands, Gulf of Oman, Wake Island 2007, FuShe Pass, well, pretty much all of the Chinese Maps, and all the maps with big water.

It works great for city maps such as Strike at Karkand or most 16 player maps where vehicles are just irritating.

As for SF, I love SF just for the fact that I can unlock two weapons at a time now, and use some SF and Euro Force guns in normal BF2, it's great! The L96A1 is the most incredible sniper ever! Also, being in the same weapon class as the AWP from counter-strike it brings back memories...(it's the L115A1, the AWP is the L96A1, difference is the amunition .338 magnum compared to 7.62mm NATO rounds)

Also, grappling hooks and ziplines are very handy, as are the aerial drops in some maps...

StarmanDX Oct 23, 2006 02:42 PM

Haha, yeah, I can't even imagine someone starting a 64 player Wake Island no vehicles server.

So I've been playing that Battleracer mod that Animechanic recommended a while back. I can't seem to find any servers, so I've just been goofing around by myself. Man, the turbo on the buggy is INSANE. Once, with a bit of luck, I made a jump in Dragon Valley from a mountain onto the roof of the temple, marked on this map:

http://img271.imageshack.us/img271/9...nvalleyph8.jpg

If someone around here is capable of running a small server for us, I think we could have a lot of fun with this.

Thalin Oct 23, 2006 02:59 PM

I would love a game of this, but of course I have the same problem, as I do with so many other mods ... no servers

Animechanic Oct 23, 2006 03:18 PM

Oh, yeah. The server finder for that is kinda buggy. You have to shut off most of the server filters, and then on the drop-down game type menu, choose circuit or sprint.

There are 2 servers that are pretty much always up. The Sir Community's is one, I forget the name of the other.

I believe that there are still RIBs on any of the maps where the USMC starts on a carrier.

Rank: Gunnery Sergeant
Kits: All, but most-played are Sniper, Anti-tank, and Spec-Ops. (Engineer, Support and Medic more lately, though.)
I generally use TeamSpeak or Ventrilo, haven't even touched X-Fire yet. When on Ventrilo, I'm usually on my friend's server, and usually in a game somewhere with him.

Stats from BF2S.com and
stats from BF2player.com

I generally play on weekends, but likely, any time after 6 PM MST I'll be on.

I could possibly set my computer up as a BF2 server at least during the day, 9-6 MST Monday-Friday ... but those are kind of limited hours. Being relatively new to this whole server thing, would I be able to PLAY BF2 while running the dedicated serverness? If so, I could leave it up 24/7. :P It's not too bad of a machine. Dual-core processor, 3 GB of DDR2 RAM, etc... *shrug* Whaddaya think?

No vehicles actually just means no land vehicles. You still get boats off of the main US ship. I actually had a really good Infantry Only round on Wake once. It makes sneaking around to the far side of the island really effective since the Chinese forces can't just zip along in a tank to blow you up before you capture the point.

Also buying another 512MB of RAM from some dude at my school tonight, so I'll see how much upgrading to a gig of RAM will help me. My biggest problem right now is when I have a grenade go off near me (or a tank fire or artillery) I get less than 5 frames a second while the screen's wobbly, so I'm pretty much helpless during that time (as opposed to my roommate's computer where at least I can see where I'm running and can try to do stuff).

Considering how much it helped me to upgrade from 1GB of RAM to 2GB of RAM, even with the good video card I have, I would say this will make a huge difference.

Kimchi Oct 23, 2006 04:11 PM

Hm, I am getting this game on saturday >.> (Should I get the expention?)

I am not sure how good the connections are, so I am hopping someone would tell me what's ping restriction on most servers >.>

Ayos Oct 23, 2006 04:14 PM

Expansion was worth it, I thought - but only because I wanted more levels and guns. Realistically it's not worth it.

Most servers won't kick you if your ping is below 200, some are picky and you need to be below 150 or even 100.

Kimchi Oct 23, 2006 04:23 PM

Ah. About the spec stuff, let's say I got decent gaming PC. I will be able to run it smoothly right?

Freelance Oct 23, 2006 04:24 PM

Okay, Dominu and Ayos has been added to GFFWiki BF2 section.

I'd recommend getting Armoured Fury. It's awesome and different from the other boosters/expansions, with varied level design (farmland, freeway, and oil rig) and wolves howling. Hopefully we can all play that in our sessions some time.

Depends on what you mean by "decent gaming PC" ... I'd recommend at least a gig of RAM, 256MB video card (BF2 runs fairly well on my ATI Radeon X800 when my computer has 3 gigs of RAM, but it would run flawlessly at highest detail if I could ever get my X1900XT installed) and a good processor, Pentium 4 w/HT or AMD Athlon 64 should do it. Your video card practically HAS to be an ATI or nVidia card, though. Despite having 256MB card before, it was some wack integrated Intel shizzit, and BF2 just wouldn't support it.

StarmanDX Oct 23, 2006 05:00 PM

Ah, that makes a lot of sense with the Wake-no-vehicles thing, then. Naturally I just assumed that EA would have taken the stupid path. Actually, that sounds kind of interesting since the boats would no longer be almost completely impotent.

Appreciated. I DO have Euro Force and Armored Fury, so those could be added in, and to make things simple, under my kits, I'd just put All, since overall I play each kit relatively equally.

Normally I'd do this editing myself, but the GFWiki page gives no legible clue on how to sign up... something about a "form below" which form is not present, unless it just doesn't show up on IE7.

The minimum specs are a 1.7 GhZ, 512 MB RAM, and a video card with Full DX9 Support and 128 MB of RAM on that. Just as a sort of gauge, the computer I have runs it on all high with 4x anti-aliasing flawlesly.

Pentium core 2 (something like that)= something around 3.0 GHZ
2 GB RAM DDR2
Geforce 7900 GTx2

Well, when I was playing freaking CSS, I started to get major screen lag on high res (Hl2 and rest were ok =.= ), so I am asking will I get screen lag? =X

KrazyTaco Oct 23, 2006 06:43 PM

I don't see why you would. I can play Half Life 2 and CSS both on All High Settings and with all doodads turned on to their max. You're computer looks about the same as mine, so the problem is probably something software related. Are all of you're drivers updated? Have you ran a spyware and virus check recently?

I'd recommend NOT giving $10 to EA for content that should've been free to begin with and instead get some of the nice free mods such as PoE2, but different strokes for different folks I guess.

Animechanic Oct 23, 2006 06:49 PM

Hey you guys complaining about lack of battleracer servers:

http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/6...board01up9.jpg

Some proof I'm not insane to think there are servers out there. Uncheck all filters except for same mod, same version only, and no password. Apply filters then set the game mode to circuit in the drop-down menu. I found 12 servers when I searched.

And Taegueki, your computer sounds pretty damn good. I don't think you'll have any problems unless you want to max out absolutely everything (Anti-aliasing is a major video card killer at high levels). Don't worry, the game still looks great even with a lot of stuff on medium. I just put dynamic lighting, textures, effects and draw distance at maximum since those are what I really care about, and my computer isn't as good as yours.

Oh, and as far as expansions goes:

Special Forces is generally considered to be not as good as regular, but the extra unlocks are nice. You can get the extra unlocks by having someone use your account for one game of Special Forces. I did this for Starman.

Nobody plays Euro Forces.

Armored Fury is fairly popular.

RacinReaver Oct 23, 2006 11:03 PM

Yeah, unless you've got a computer worse than mine

Quote:

Athlon XP 2800+

the game should be playable. I can't fly airplanes or helicopters, nor can I gun effectively in any sort of vehicle (pretty much all I can do is drive tanks and jeeps), but I still am able to place on the higher end of my team most rounds. I generally stick to infantry-only servers since the game will runs a lot better on them since I don't have to constantly refresh vehicle positions and everything. Playing BF2 right now is about the same performance I used to get out of my PII 300mhz with 64MB of RAM and an ATI Rage Pro onboard graphics card (running at about the same resolution ;_; ).

If anyone wants to add me to the wiki feel free.

Edit: Oh yeah, guess I usually play as either medic or support. On the rare occasion I'll play on a vehicle server I've started to favor the engineer over anti-tank recently. No special forces, though I'd love to get my hands on that G36E. :(

Does special forces come with a separate key? My roommate and I have been sharing the same copy of BF2 and I was thinking about getting the expansion so we could play together (I know this used to work with BF1942 and the expansions since a few of my friends at other colleges did it).

Class most played: Anti-Tank/Medic
Favourite gun: L85A1, amazing! Also, the DAO-12 shotgun, reminds me of the Assault Shotgun from Deus Ex!

hope to see some of you around, I play lots...

Special forces does come with a CD key, but I rummaged around on the BF2S forums and found that you can't really share. I guess it works most of the time if you play in different servers, but it definately won't work if you try to join the same server.

And as I said, if anyone wants the SF unlocks without buying SF, all you have to do is have someone that owns SF play a single round of SF using your account.

S?ecter Oct 24, 2006 01:36 PM

I think it's retarded that Euro Force and Armoured Fury are 10 bucks a piece, there isn't that much that you even get with the packs, and there are hardly any servers. Anyone agree? I'm not spending 10 bucks on either of them...

Ayos Oct 24, 2006 02:13 PM

I dunno, I liked the new weapons and maps in Euro Force. Armored Fury was a bit more of a disappointment than Euro Force though.

Worth $10 each... yeah, I'd actually have to say they are. But that's just one opinion.

Although personally I think game content additions should be free, $10 is not that bad considering this is EA. Knowing EA, they would have never released anything on the scale of more than 1-2 new maps for the lifetime of the game unless they got some money out of it. I do maintain the opinion that Special Forces was a ripoff at $30 though. It's the same thing as EF and AF, but $20 more expensive.

Freelance Oct 24, 2006 06:10 PM

I'm obviously in the MINORITY here, but I maintain that anything that's fun to me is worth it. $10 isn't going to break your bank either.

StarmanDX Oct 24, 2006 06:28 PM

Call me crazy, but I've nary found any of the SF unlocks to be worth it. The only one I use is the Medic's G36E - I suppose the F2000 and L96A1 aren't too bad either, but I never play either of those classes. Still, it's nice getting two unlocks every rank instead of one. Not that I've payed for SF. >_> I actually would have not too long ago, but for some reason the downloadable version costs $10 more than the retail version. It's just as well; it's probably due for a price drop soon anyways.

As for EF and AF, $10 isn't too bad. It all depends on how much you play them, and there's enough servers - just not as many as there are KARKAND/SHARQI/WAKE-ONLY servers.

S?ecter Oct 25, 2006 12:45 AM

meh, the only guns that are in EF that aren't in BF2 or SF in some form are the famas, the M3, and the HK21. Other than that, the HK53 is essentially an mp5, the L85A2 is almost identical to the L85A1 save the grenade launcher, and you get the L96A1 and RCP90 with unlocks in normal BF2 with SF. I have to admit that the maps look kind of cool in AF, but knowing me I'd just end up playing karkand, mashtuur, sharqi, jalalabad, ghost town, and warlord like always...

Just a little aside...
I've always found wake island 2007 to be horribly over rated, I found it a very boring map. It's very small, and it feels the same every time you play it.

As for SF being worth it? It's worth it for the SAS alone, I friggin love all the guns they get. Having an smg like the mp7 for the engineer is great, and the G36 is my favourite gun in any form, I honestly wouldn't have cared had they had the G36 or G3 in some form for every class, lol, could have had the G3/SG-1 for the sniper, the G3 for the assault, and give G36C's to the engineer and anti-tank and it would have been perfect, lol... Another great thing was the rocket launcher for the insurgent/rebels, actually made you feel like a terrorist, it was great!

Ayos Oct 25, 2006 01:27 AM

Wake 2007 got boring to me really quick as well, but then I realized, if you've got a decent squad and some real communication going on, you can take that island by storm all by yourselves while everyone else is sitting around going insane trying to hunt each other down in tanks and zippy little airplanes.

I dunno I guess the reason I felt no guilt over shelling out $10 for each booster pack, and even $30 for SF, was because I take an occasional poke and laugh at WoW fanatics who pay monthly just so they can PLAY the game. With the amount of content "added" or "fixed" in each update or patch, you're doing yourself more of a favor buying the so-called expansion/booster packs for BF2.

EDIT: This shows you how often I play the game now:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...hysterical.jpg

KrazyTaco Oct 25, 2006 08:12 AM

What's odd is that if you ever played Battlefield 1942 Wake was an extremely fun map. The only difference now is that you have the commander stuff, and the role swap (American's used to defend the island, Japanese attacked) So I'm not really sure what caused the map to become so dull. I think it's mainly because the map seems bigger now. I can't remember specifically, but I think you had a few combat ships in 1942. That island for the artillery was never there either I don't think, so they were able to make the map smaller in 1942.

Edit:

1942 Wake
http://pnmedia.gamespy.com/planetbat.../wake_zoom.jpg

Notice how closer the map is to everything. This made the job of the Japanese a bit easier. Also, that second ship is a destroyer. In 1942, you didn't have artillery per say. What you had was a guy in the destroyers gunner seat, and you had a Sniper class down on the ground somewhere. The Sniper would pull out his binoculars, and click on a target. This would radio in an artillery request. From there the gunner back on the ship could switch to spot mode and if he was any good at what he does line up a perfect shot to destroy the Sherman tank or whatever it was that was spotted from the ocean.

Ayos Oct 25, 2006 10:15 AM

Agreed - Wake Island on 1942 was more funnerer in a lot of ways. In fact there are some features you had in 1942 in general that when you look at BF2, you have to sit and wonder, "What were you smoking when you decided not to put THAT back in?"

WTB Wake 1942 4 BF2 plz. :(

S?ecter Oct 25, 2006 01:59 PM

Not to turn this into a debate over which was better, but there are lots of sweet features in BF2 that aren't in 1942 as well, such as the whole commander thing, change of styles for the classes, more variety of weapons and stuff, and many other things...

Ayos Oct 25, 2006 02:56 PM

I totally agree, but ... there are still some things that are present in 1942 and not in BF2... things that make me go "hmm."

garthvadr3 Oct 25, 2006 03:16 PM

like movable battleships.

I don't care if they are retired from the navy, they make the game waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more fun. I do love BF2 still though even w/o ships.

Anyone come to a consensus on which mod we will play this friday? EF, SF, Vanilla or POE 2?

Please pick POE2. While there are no stats yet, (they are being tested and may be done by this week) there will be soon, and the game is more solid than even vanilla BF2.

It was good for a change of scenery, but until now the lack of stats was what kept me away.

Will they have ranks, unlocks, medals, etc? Not to seem greedy, but that's my whole reason for playing BF2. Having a persistent account is gratifying.

Animechanic Oct 26, 2006 01:27 AM

Yeah, the stats are nice, but they really stop being gratifying once you hit first sargeant. After that, the next rank is so far away you feel like you aren't making any progress anymore. Same for badges. Bronze are cake, silver for kits and gold for pistol and knife aren't bad, but gold for kits and just silver for vehicles start to take a really long time. When you look at how long it'll take just to get a chance at your next award, it starts to get depressing.

Also, every once in a while I kinda miss the old BF2, back when hardly anyone had unlocks yet. So the differences in armies really made a difference in how you had to fight. Plus, you could tell where friendlies and enemies were just by the weapon firing sounds. Now everyone has unlocks, so none of that matters anymore.

garthvadr3 Oct 26, 2006 07:06 AM

POE2 has a stats system. I think its still in the testing process so I don't know how many servers support it, but the final system will not require servers to even be ranked. Instead any server you play on supposedly will record your stats as long as it is POE. I know for a fact that there is a promotion system, Seperate promotions for each arrmy, which I think is ver cool.

You can register for POE stats here http://www.poestats.com/

And I managed to get registered on their website too.

RacinReaver Oct 27, 2006 10:17 AM

Back on the Wake thing, one of the biggest problems I have is being an American assaulting the island how long it'll take you to take a landing craft from the main ship to somewhere like the beach. I can't count how many times I've tried to sneak around that way only to get taken out by a helicopter/airplane at the last second because I have no defense against them during my 3+ minute boating trip. Let us move the ship around so at least it'll give the map some variability (hell, how perfect would it be for the Commander to drive the ship so he can place spawn points right where he thinks it's appropriate).

Freelance Oct 27, 2006 02:45 PM

Okay, so I haven't posted in here much. Sue me, why don't you.

I tried DLed POE once and it was corrupted or something, so I am attempting again right now. If all goes well, we can try playing that tonight if you're interested.

garthvadr3 Oct 27, 2006 02:55 PM

I hope it works.

Animechanic Oct 27, 2006 03:51 PM

Just make sure you're getting the client installer first, then the patch. It tends to be unhappy if you try it the other way.

Freelance Oct 27, 2006 04:32 PM

Okay it successfully downloaded without any problems this time, but I want to make sure I got the right file. Is it poe2_client_v1.0.0.zip? I was wondering 'cause there's a 2 after POE so I thought maybe it's a sequel to the mod. Either that or it's there just 'cause it's a BF2 mod. I got the patch too and installed that.

P.S. Ugh, I think I'm getting sick again though. I started feeling very cold today for no reason, and I just sneezed and now I think a headache is coming. Man, I hate this season.

Animechanic Oct 27, 2006 05:04 PM

Yeah, the one we'll be playing is PoE2. It is actually a sequel, as the original PoE was a mod for Battlefield Vietnam.

Make sure you get the PoE2 v1.1.5 patch too. There are a bunch of download mirror links on the front page of the Point of Existence website.

garthvadr3 Oct 27, 2006 05:11 PM

Great I am glad we will be playing POE. Practice up on the guns before you go in if you want. They do work a lot differently than BF2s but they are more dependable aiming wise and more accurate.

Let us move the ship around so at least it'll give the map some variability (hell, how perfect would it be for the Commander to drive the ship so he can place spawn points right where he thinks it's appropriate).

Exactly, and as said before, It's probably because you're locked into a 64 player sized map. Wake especially is huge on this size map considering you travel in a slow transport boat. It's obvious that the level designers wanted to focus on air power as a means for the Americans to take a foothold. The problem though being on a 64 man server, you only get 2 Black Hawks, seating a max of probably 20 total combined. Never mind the fact that no one waits for anyone before taking off, so you usually have a max of 3 people per chopper. I personally just think that EA was taking pressure to get a new map out, so they rushed Wake a bit.

Voila! BF2142 titan mode. I think EA basically regarded all the difficulty they had with BF2 as a beta test for BF2142.

garthvadr3 Oct 27, 2006 08:30 PM

too bad 2142 is worse than BF2. If BF2 is a beta then the beta is fine with me:)

Freelance Oct 27, 2006 08:31 PM

Okay, we're gonna start playing soon. If you're not on X-Fire yet, then please get on now so we can get this going.

Domino Oct 27, 2006 08:39 PM

I'm not going to be able to make it. Much too late for me now. 2:40am, and I've been up since 7am Friday morning. Maybe next time. Maybe we could start a little earlier next week?

Freelance Oct 27, 2006 11:09 PM

Most people don't get on til later though. I'd like to start earlier, but it really depends on how many people arrive.

Thalin Oct 28, 2006 07:48 AM

Your in the same boat as me Domino :)

garthvadr3 Oct 28, 2006 10:39 PM

too bad, that was a fun session of POE2. We basically got best squad the whole time.

Freelance Nov 2, 2006 06:52 AM

Won't be playing this week, guys. Going out and dunno when I be back. There's still enough of you left to make a squad though, so have fun!

garthvadr3 Nov 2, 2006 08:06 AM

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Anyone have any idea what version of BF2 they want to play Friday if any?

StarmanDX Nov 2, 2006 11:11 AM

I'd say either vanilla, EF, or AF, since we've done SF and POE2 recently. Or maybe even Battleracer, if people are up for it.

garthvadr3 Nov 2, 2006 04:29 PM

I don't have battleracer but if enough people are up for it I will DL it and we can play.

Animechanic Nov 3, 2006 02:15 AM

Yeah, battleracer rocks. I need to start playing more and try to move up the ladder.

Sparhawke Nov 3, 2006 03:10 PM

just a news flash if anyone is interested, bf2 booster bundle on cd 11/20 for $20. woot, hardcopies. I'll problaly pick it up.

Thalin Nov 3, 2006 03:17 PM

I'd like to play Battleracer but it'd have to be soon, maybe about 3 hours? Domino you up for it too?

Domino Nov 3, 2006 04:56 PM

Sounds like a plan. 3 hours? Somewhere around 11:30 then? We got any other takers?

I'll download it now, and get some practise in.

StarmanDX Nov 3, 2006 05:31 PM

So about 50 minutes from now? I'll add you two on Xfire; message me when you're ready to go.

Ayos Nov 3, 2006 06:14 PM

Here's hoping you guys play for at least another two and a half hours, cause I wanna join but I'm stuck at work for the next little while.

StarmanDX Nov 3, 2006 06:46 PM

Okay, honestly... that was kinda lame. I imagine it would be better with more people, but I had a tendency to get disqualified for no apparent reason, and I don't feel like sitting around waiting for the next race to start again.

I should be back for the regular session in a few hours, should one happen.

Animechanic Nov 3, 2006 07:24 PM

Generally when you get disqualified it's because you didn't pass the checkpoints in the right order. Make sure you look on the map to see where you need to go.

Ah, well, makes a change from regular BF2 I suppose. I don't think I'll be able to make the session, getting on a bit now. It's 12:30am over here, I'll see how I get on though.

Nope. All I had to do was go a few feet off the road. *boom* *disqualified*

Animechanic Nov 3, 2006 08:47 PM

What track and where? I've never had that kind of problem.

Domino Nov 3, 2006 09:05 PM

We were on:

EA UK Killing Field Mods+Matches Server. IP: 193.93.45.174:16567

Don't know which track he had trouble with, everything was okay for me.

StarmanDX Nov 3, 2006 09:56 PM

Well, at Dragon Valley it was a bit more understandable, since I fell off the main road onto a smaller road, but I'm pretty sure this was inbetween two checkpoints.

However, it was at Gulf of Oman that it was really weird. Right towards the start of the map I missed a turn, and had barely gone a few feet off the road before getting disqualified - and this was right next a checkpoint that I'd just passed, so...

S?ecter Nov 4, 2006 01:40 PM

Holy crap, I just bought BF 2142, it's WAY better than people said it was. I heard it was shitty from SO many people, but it's wicked, the BF2 feel is still there, the look and feel of the futuristic stuff is great, reminiscent of Starship Troopers kind of... But yeah, it's great, the only thing I don't like is that there are only 2 factions, they condensed the kits into 4, and unlocks are harder to get. There are LOTS of unlocks though, and the vehicles are amazing. Anyone who's debating buying 2142 should just do it, it's worth it!

Hopefully I'll still find time to play BF2, lol, worked hard enough on BF2 that I don't want to give it up. Plus, 2142 can't replace it, BF2 is totally different, it's realistic combat, and I'll still play.

Counter-strike may get shafted for a while due to lack of time, lol...

Thalin Nov 5, 2006 03:56 PM

You are a traitor. Leave this discussion NOW

:)

garthvadr3 Nov 5, 2006 04:14 PM

boooooooo 2142. It doesn't even feel like a Battlefield game.

S?ecter Nov 5, 2006 06:26 PM

I don't want to argue for it's sanctity, but it does feel quite alot like a battlefield game, just way more stylized, and...full of punkbuster kicks...lol, other than that it's good!

Ayos Nov 6, 2006 12:58 AM

Bought 2142. It's okay. BF2 has a much better feel and gameplay and... well, everything.
However, one good thing 2142 has going for it is that it seems to strain the graphics processor LESS than BF2. At least, it seems that way to me...

S?ecter Nov 7, 2006 02:51 PM

One thing I'm noticing is now that the classes are all combined and shit, medics are less likely to respond to injured players, and Recon can do friggin EVERYTHING, snipe, c4 things, lay claymores, seems EVERYONE plays as Recon now...

Lol, I've unlocked the whole Support tree, and it seems SO useless...

Animechanic Nov 9, 2006 06:45 PM

More on the topic of "Bravo, EA" regarding 2142:

http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id=52493

Edit: Ooh, they killed the thread.

Basically, there was supposed to be "titan drop" points that were awarded to the pilot of a dropship whenever a passenger podded out of the dropship onto the enemy titan. Thing is, it turns out the game is coded so that the points are awarded whenever a passenger vacates a seat. This means that if someone in the back just switches seats really fast, you get a point for every switched seat. Soon as this glitch was found, people started using it get around 2000 points a round, easy. So the leaderboard has basically just been a place to show off how badly EA coded the game.

Freelance Nov 10, 2006 05:43 PM

Okay, so what are we going to play tonight? Any suggestions?

Solis Nov 10, 2006 06:30 PM

I'm up for pretty much anything (having SF, AF, and PoE2). It would be nice to play some expansion/booster packs (I vote for AF), but I wouldn't want to alienate anyone that doesn't have those so we'll only play that if noone that's going to join us is missing them.

Oh, and on a related note, the EF/AF booster packs are getting a retail release for $20 for the two. Next week Best Buy has it on sale for $20 with a free $10 gift card.

Thalin Nov 16, 2006 02:33 PM

1.41 patch is out guys, be sure to grab it. 536mb, fixing the server bug, and ...

...

...

...

Nothing else... Yes, that's write, 536mb of wasted bandwidth on one server crash bug. Fuck you EA, fuck you.

Sparhawke Nov 17, 2006 04:01 PM

they finally posted what the 1.41 patch does, got this off fileplanet:
GAMEPLAY TWEAKS

- The vehicle drop has been modified to help prevent exploits such as blocking enemy vehicles, destroying vehicles and commander assets, or as an alternative to artillery.
- C4 tossing distance has been reduced.
- A prone->crouch delay has been added.

BUG FIXES

- Fixed the Linux server hangs when trying to load a Special Forces Co-Op map.
- Another attempt at fixing the Red/Blue nametag bug.
- Fixed the missing server info on the map briefing screen.
- Fixed the server browser issues with updating info.
- Fixed the filter by maps size option in the server browser.
- Fixed a low reproducibility crash bug related to the vehicle drop.
- Fixed a crash in Co-op after a player is revived without a kit.
- Fixed a server crash on Linux 32 when trying to rotate maps in Coop Mode.
- Fixed the occasionnal red distance marker appearing on the ground.
- Fixed the bug that caused the player's arms to become invisible when switching weapons.
- Co-Op bot console commands now function on local servers.
- Fixed the excessive damage taken by the Muscle Car.
- Adjusted the minimum number of players to start the round on ranked servers. The new values for 16, 32 and 64 players are 6, 8 and 8 respectively.
- Re-enabled unlocks on unranked servers.
- Commander options are no longer available whilst commander is dead.
- Fixed bug where a spawn point is shown as selected when it is not if player has spawned in during the preview round.
- Co-Op (Local Server) - Fixed the issue where no other players may join the server if the server host is kicked and banned.
- Ranked Servers now force unlocks.
- Added support for multiple gamemodes in single maplist for mods

so that 536 meg patch makes a little more sense now though they r fixing things they broke and supposedly fixed already...

Freelance Nov 19, 2006 09:07 AM

Looks like the patch is just for people running servers and not for actual players.

It also looks like GFF's downtime two days ago affected our session as well. I logged on but there was nobody on except for Hawke, who was convienantly(sp?)away. Ouch. We'll try again next week.

Sparhawke Nov 19, 2006 01:50 PM

@Wolf Yea, I happened to get back right when you logged off. :)
btw, I got AF so I'm ready for whenever we play again.

Locke Nov 24, 2006 06:47 PM

I should be able to join in tonight :)

Freelance Nov 24, 2006 06:52 PM

Cool, more the merrier, I'd say. I guess we can start around 8 or so. Hopefully other people will be around then.

Domino Nov 24, 2006 06:54 PM

Wow. I was beginning to think that everyone had abandoned BF2 and gone over to the dark side and started on BF2142, guess I was wrong. As for the session tonight, depends on the time ,how I feel, and also, which expansion. Been a long day already so I may not make it, see how things go.

Freelance Nov 24, 2006 07:43 PM

Haha, not this ferret. I'm not interested in BF2142.

Well we're going to start at 8pm EST if enough people are on.

Domino Nov 24, 2006 08:06 PM

8 EST? So that's ..... about now then?

I'll have to see about adding you to xfire as well.

Freelance Nov 24, 2006 08:26 PM

Yeah, that's right now. There's only 3 people on (including me) right now though. If anyone else wants to play, can you get on X-Fire?

StarmanDX Dec 1, 2006 09:38 PM

So, anyone going to be playing tonight? No one's on Xfire. =/

Freelance Dec 2, 2006 12:24 AM

Yeah, sorry. I couldn't play tonight. I had dinner with relatives. Then a storm hit and knocked out the power for a good while. So yeah, sorry :(

But hey, just 'cause I can't play doesn't mean the session is off for that day. There's lots of other people in the team.

Solis Dec 2, 2006 12:30 AM

well, the only other person I saw on was Starman. And...now Jinn is playing BF2, didn't even notice him get on.

Animechanic Dec 3, 2006 12:52 AM

Sorry I missed it, a friend of mine's computer bit it, so he was using mine to do some schoolwork. I have been playing a fair amount lately, and I managed to get a new award, veteran transport. I've also been playing around with the assault class a fair amount and getting good with the grenade launcher.

Aquas Dec 15, 2006 07:31 AM

I'm lookin' for a new FPS to play, so I'm going to pick this shit up when I got the dough for it. I'm tired of Day of Defeat: Source and CS:S... so, it's time to move on to greater things I think... =D

Domino Dec 22, 2006 02:41 PM

Guys, are we having a game tonight? If so, I should be able to make it, had the day off work today so I've not been up since 7am (2am EST)

Freelance Dec 22, 2006 02:55 PM

Unless everyone comes down with the flu, we usually play, but sometimes we end up playing other games instead. Nothing's really guaranteed since anything can happen at the last second. Let's try to play a little earlier tonight to accomondate(sp?) the people living across the ocean.

Thalin Jan 2, 2007 03:22 PM

This thread surely deserves a bump :)

Freelance Jan 18, 2007 07:05 AM

OK here is the kicker.

Is there still interest in the BF2 sessions? I suppose people are either too busy now with RL and other games (Hello me) or have lost interest (Hello 2142), or simply can't play due to other reasons (Hello Taco). Does anyone still wish to play on Fridays? What say you?

Thalin Jan 18, 2007 08:50 AM

I only play the Project Reality mod now, I don't think I will go back to vanilla BF2 for a while, if ever. As for 2142, I couldn't care less about it and never have.

Locke Jan 18, 2007 09:38 AM

I would love to keep having our sessions, but I'm often too busy on fridays to play :(

Domino Jan 18, 2007 11:49 AM

I would like to keep having the games, but due to time zone differences, I am too tired to make it most weeks. I'm all for a new time, if anyone is interested

Thalin Jan 18, 2007 01:07 PM

I play on Tuesday and Friday nights Domino, around the 10:00 mark (UK time). Grab Project Reality and we'll hop on a server.

Seriously though guys, I highly recommend this mod. I seriously have no interest in vanilla anymore. People actually work in squads, and there is some awesome team work. Shots are very harmful, and kill instantly in the head, something vanilla was lacking. There is no crosshair, so you will have to zoom etc, as well as this there are many new maps, vehicles, weapons and more.

Give it a shot.

StarmanDX Jan 18, 2007 03:26 PM

I've been busy lately, but I'm still up for Friday sessions.

Unless Project Reality has much better bullet physics, I'm not particularly interested. Even if it does, that combined with shots being even more harmful doesn't sound fun. Does it have stats, unlocks, etc.?

Thalin Jan 18, 2007 03:35 PM

Don't think there are stats, there are no unlocks but you can request kits to be dropped when in a spawn point. To me I don't care, it's the team work that I find fun :)

Sparhawke Jan 18, 2007 08:10 PM

I'm still up for bf2. i admit i do play bf2142 but i like both of them. silly me :)

Freelance Jan 26, 2007 08:35 PM

garthvadr3 Jan 26, 2007 08:47 PM

I would actually like to start playing again. I have been veeeery busy lately. Maybe next Friday :)

Freelance Feb 16, 2007 07:13 PM

Gah, I have no idea if I can play BF2 tonight. Right now I'm busy yawning my head off and me eyes are all teary. I shouldn't be tired this early. I suppose it's because I went to bed at 2am last night. It sucks that I end up tired on the only day I get a chance to play stuffs with others. I'll try to get on later, but if not, then you'll know why >_>

Take care.

Free.User Feb 16, 2007 07:44 PM

I just bought this game, and I love it. It would be awesome if I could get in the action with you guys, and I can play anytime tonight. My in-handle is Fre_User and my Xfire handle is freuser. (Can't believe Free.User is taken >:v).

Locke Feb 16, 2007 09:05 PM

im loggin in now :)

Animechanic Feb 26, 2007 11:35 AM

Well, I have settled into my new apartment, and I finally got a computer desk yesterday, so I'm back to playing BF2. I'd be up for a frag session whenever.

Thalin Feb 26, 2007 11:55 AM

Cool. Well you can download Project Reality from www.realitymod.com if you want a game with me, i'm not sure about the others, and what they play these days.

Domino Feb 26, 2007 01:12 PM

I either play vanilla BF2 or Project Reality, but my ISP has crippled my Internet, and made X-Fire useless, so I can hardly play online anymore.
But when, and if I ever get to be able to play online again, I'm up for a game of either.

Thalin Feb 26, 2007 02:26 PM

Still on Friday evenings. We had a bit of a break there for a while, but we've had pretty successful sessions the past two Fridays.

garthvadr3 Mar 2, 2007 10:38 AM

sweet well as long as nothing annoying happens, I will definatly be looking forward to tonight on the battlefield. I just reformatted so I have to get xfire again and add everyones name to my list again.

Also, do yu guys play vanilla BF2 or a mod.

If you play a mod I will have to get that too.

Thalin Mar 2, 2007 11:02 AM

Well, welcome back, all you people who were mysteriously absent.

Domino Mar 2, 2007 12:09 PM

What is the update, and more importantly, where do I get it from?

Bad news. My ISP has kicked me out of XFire, and won't let me back in. And, it turns out that I have Allied Intent and not Project Reality as previously stated. I don't know what made me think that I had Project Reality. I will see about downloading it, in fact, I will do that right now. If I manage to get it by 10, I will join in a game, unless, that is if you have Allied Intent then we have a game on that.

Free.User Mar 2, 2007 04:06 PM

I'm game for tonight. I'll see you guys later, and if you don't have my xfire, it's in my signature.

Animechanic Mar 2, 2007 04:15 PM

Meh, I play games to get away from reality. Vanilla BF2 for me. I'll see those of you that want to play regular BF2 later.

garthvadr3 Mar 2, 2007 08:18 PM

anyone else playing regular BF2?

StarmanDX Mar 2, 2007 11:06 PM

So, um, startin' to get kinda late. Are we going to have more than the three that are online now, or not?

Freelance Mar 3, 2007 08:38 AM

Dammit. I couldn't make it again. The PC was tied up last night 'cause my sister was using it for a school project and she was on for many hours. I dunno if school is just tougher nowadays or not, but some of the questions she's asked me just leaves me scratching my head.

Just to let you know, my PC is for the family, so yes, other people use it. I don't have exclusive rights to it, so yes, if someone wants to use it, even if it interferes with my lines, I let them use it.

On the bright side, since she was using it last night, I finally managed to read through the Reunion Files. I had it for so long and I never finished it :D

Kamui Mar 3, 2007 03:57 PM

Installed Project Reality but haven't had the chance to try it out yet.

garthvadr3 Mar 3, 2007 04:30 PM

yea, I did not have project reality yet and someone was running a torrent in my house so downloading or even playing for that matter was out of the question.

Domino Mar 4, 2007 04:12 PM

I managed to download Project Reality the other night, and have spent some time on it. I don't like it as much as vanilla BF2, it's too real. I think I'll stick to vanilla.

Locke Mar 5, 2007 09:34 AM

Next time I have some time, I'm going to try project reality - looks good from the website :)

Jinn Mar 7, 2007 05:23 PM

Hey there, all. Trying to do a huge update on the first page. I've mostly just made revisions to your titles, and added one more person to the list, but I aim to do much more!

Anyways, go look at the first page; if you see yourself and everything is in order - good. If not, let me know by either posting it in this thread or pming me. With classes winding down a bit for me, I should have much more time to play.

Domino Mar 9, 2007 04:07 PM

Hey Jinn, can you see about adding me to the list on the first page. I don't play as much as I used to, but I have the odd game now and again.

Profile: Dominu
Rank: First Sergeant
Kit: Sniper, Support (mainly Sniper)
Expansions: Special Forces
Mods: Allied Intent, Project Reality

As for the game tonight, I don't think that I'm going to be able to make it. I've had a hard week at work and I'm feeling sleepy already and it's only 9pm (GMT)

Freelance Mar 9, 2007 05:03 PM

Jinn, the info at GFFWiki is more up to date than the list you have here, so check it out.

By the way, my little sister is bugging me to play Sims 2 tonight. I initially said, 'no, only on the weekends.' Then she said to me, 'you said Friday is part of the weekend!' Unfortunately, I did say that to her, so hahaha, if you don't see me tonight, you'll know why ;) She rarely gets a chance to play the game, so I do let her play for hours sometimes.

That ought to give me time to work on my project and maybe watch a movie though, so nothing is wasted.

Tata.

Sparhawke Mar 9, 2007 08:34 PM

I don't know if I'll be able to play tonite. I'm at my sister's so depends what's going on. plus she's got really limited bandwidth so my ping problaly be horrible...

garthvadr3 Mar 16, 2007 12:37 PM

I won't be able to play tonight at least until after 11:00pm because my stupid job has me going in to later tonight for some reason. But if you guys are still playing when I get home, I might be up for some scrappin on the battlefield.

StarmanDX Mar 16, 2007 02:37 PM

Tonight will be the last time I can play for probably the next two years, so hopefully some people will be around. =/

Locke Mar 25, 2007 07:13 PM

Just installed Project Reality, and holy fuck i love it!

garthvadr3 Mar 25, 2007 07:29 PM

well I downloaded Project reality and I can't say I am too much of a fan. Too slow paced for my taste. I like the arcade feel of BF2 too much. If I play any mod, POE2 has my full support right now. It has the arcade feel of BF2 with a more realistic feel of the guns.

I think I will stick with vanilla and POE2 for now.

Thalin Mar 26, 2007 07:49 AM

Glad to see you like it Locke. Garth, I tried POE2 once, and I quite enjoyed it, but I can't see myself playing it after PR (that's the bad thing about Project Reality :()

gaming Jun 5, 2007 01:38 PM

I was wondering if anybody was interested in trading game keys...?
Battlefield Vietnam for Battlefield 2 or 2142 :o

Free.User Jun 5, 2007 11:42 PM

Looks like EA has taken a sudden interest in this game. They just released a new beta map: "Highway Tampa".

Download: http://largedownloads.ea.com/pub/mis...a_Beta_BF2.zip

Freelance Jun 7, 2007 12:44 PM

A new map! Yay!

I haven't played in a long while, due to the fact there's tons of other games right now that are just as addicting, and the fact three people have dropped out due to various reasons and it doesn't feel the same without them.

Then again, there's a new map, wooo and I'd love to try it out, especially a highway map!!! I was kinda sad people aren't playing AF anymore, 'cause I loved Operation Road Rage. This new map can be a replacement! I guess I should wait til it's gone off Beta though. I can't check the link now. Does it show any screenshots of the level?

RacinReaver Jun 7, 2007 01:37 PM

Now that my desktop's alive again I might try to see how it's running BF2 with 1GB of RAM instead of 512MB. I'm not expecting a whole lot, but maybe I'll actually be able to do servers with vehicles and aircraft this time.

Solis Jun 7, 2007 04:27 PM

Going from 1GB of RAM from 512MB is a ridiculously huge upgrade for BF2. I can't imagine playing the game with 512MB, even 1GB has stuttering here and there.

RacinReaver Jun 7, 2007 04:39 PM

Well, this is also on a 4 year old computer with an older AGP card, so I'm not really expecting a huge improvement.

Sparhawke Jun 7, 2007 04:43 PM

A few screenshots from the new map: http://planetbattlefield.gamespy.com....php?id=120181
Looks like a desert map with armor, kinda like one of the maps with AF. I've dled it but haven't had a chance to check it out.

Freelance Jun 7, 2007 07:35 PM

What? No actual highway -_-;

I am disappointed!!!

I did like uh, what's it called...that desert map in EF with all those tanks roaming around. It was awesome for TOW users :3

RacinReaver Jun 7, 2007 10:14 PM

Has there been a patch or something in the past few months? I just tried to play and I could only see around four servers (with my usual filters that used to return a shitload of them).

Domino Jun 8, 2007 11:08 AM

The latest patch is 1.41, well at least it was the last time I played.

I have AF, and I'd play it if I could figure out how to make the damn thing work.

Sparhawke Jun 11, 2007 12:41 AM

What do you mean? the whole annoying/stupid register-your-booster pack to your username thing?

Free.User Jun 11, 2007 12:57 AM

Yeah. I tried that, but when I enter a Booster Pack map in the game it tells me I need to buy the product first ;_;

Jinn Jun 19, 2007 10:35 PM

I feel like I'm pretty much played out on Battlefield 2. However, I am looking forward to Forgotten Hope 2 A LOT. Check it out! Can't wait to play it with some of you.

I've also been playing a lot of Battlefield 2142. I'm having some great fun with it, surprisingly enough! I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it or not, but it's not over-the-top futuristic like I thought it would be, so I'm pretty happy with it.

Anyway, see you guys on the battlefield, hopefully!

Animechanic Jun 20, 2007 12:18 AM

Yeah, I haven't been playing too much lately either. I'm with you on the Forgotten Hope 2 though, I've been waiting for it for quite some time now.

Thalin Jun 26, 2007 09:10 AM

I'm also eagerly awaiting its release. But it's been like 3 years!

kouji Aug 16, 2007 01:48 AM

Wow, Forgotten hope 2 looks like it might put some life into the game yet again! :D

I used to play this a lot, but after getting into the DoD:S (or Day of Defeat: Source), I didn't like BF2's hit detection system. :( (My sniper rifle was nearly useless...)

Free.User Sep 14, 2007 01:00 PM

Here's a mod you guys need to check out: BF2 Sandbox. It's basically like a level editor, but you build the levels while you are in the game.

StarmanDX Oct 3, 2007 07:21 PM

So now that I'm back, and assuming my brother remembers to bring the BF2 disc home this weekend (yeah, I know I could just get a no-cd crack or cd image, but I'd prefer not to), it'd be great to get the ol' BF2 crew back together again sometime.

Free.User Oct 3, 2007 09:29 PM

I'm down. 'nuff said.

Skexis Oct 3, 2007 09:33 PM

My vent buddies have kinda drifted away from the game for now, but I'm always up for some squad action. I just need to make it a habit to check Xfire to see what's going on more often.

(Is it Friday that's the usual day for you guys to play? That'd be my luck, since I usually don't get off until after 10p central on Fridays.)

Jinn Oct 3, 2007 10:47 PM

You been playing 2142 at all Skexis? That's mostly what I've been sticking to, simply because I've already played the living shit out of 2. It's actually pretty damn fun!

Anyways, thats just a buffer to make my wait for Forgotten Hope 2 less hellish. Man, I can't wait for that mod.

But yeah, I'd be down for some squad action myself. Drop me a line, all! Tonight even. I noticed quite a few of you are on Xfire right now.

I wanted to get 2142 even after all the negative press, but I was waiting for it to hit the $20 sweet spot before I picked it up. How's the stability/patch stuff? Is EA giving it decent support?

Jinn Oct 3, 2007 11:03 PM

I've had a few problems with it, but mostly it's just dandy. In game it's really not all that buggy that I have noticed. Just a little lag when you enter a titan and some minor graphical glitches, but that's about it.

I'd definitely get it for $20, but I went ahead laid down $30 on it. Yeah, it's pretty much a glorified mod for Battlefield 2, but it's a really fun one.

Well, I'm installing Battlefield 2 again right now, so if anyone feels like playing let me know.

Zeal Oct 4, 2007 03:58 AM

BFPirates

This mod is fun as hell. Currently taking a break from H3 and playing it.

Now if I could only get Punkbuster to stop kicking me just because I use ProcessGuard.

StarmanDX Oct 5, 2007 11:21 PM

Edit: Yeah, too late to start tonight. Maybe tomorrow, but I may or may not be able to make it.

Plus, my brother forgot the disc again, and I don't think Punkbuster likes the mini image I'm trying.
