Heh.
Heh <~~ the stupidest form of laugh there could ever be. Seriously why do so many internet forum nerds and bloggers feel the need to use this? I guess its supposed to be some kind of cool laid back laugh or not even a laugh but a chuckle. To me though its just really annoying because if you say the word outloud it just sounds stupid and annoying.
I like how the internet lingo is just as trendy as anything else out there nowadays. Its like one person starts doing something..others pick up on it and decide "oh well I want to look like an asshole too so ill 'heh' at everything to make myself look cool!". For this one you cannot even blame a tv show or anything else. Forums and Blogs are full of them, if you read a blog or journal you will see something like this: "I was watching my favorite anime, and the weird anime girl with blue hair had nice breasts...heh". Like I said earlier, the internet is full of people who pick up on what others do and keep it going. The whole leet or whatever the hell it is called is just as bad. There are people out there who actually speak leet because they are so beyond having a social life..its really all they have. You also have those who mock it by talking with "zomg, Pr0n, Haxxorz" or other various forms of it. They mock it by using it but really only to get a laugh out of people because they fail to do it any other way. Don't even get me started on the whole "lawlz" thing because if I honestly knew anyone in person that typed with "lawlz" ..I swear to god I would punch them in the crotch a dozen times. Am I the only one annoyed by this? Its not...so much the actual use of the words...its just how many zombies there are out there that have to pick up on trends that others use because they lack the creativity to have their own personality. I mean come on, it just sounds ridiculous. Heh? Good god. |
I don't like it either, only because when someone says "heh" to me it's kind of an insulting response. If I type something funny, and get a "heh" in return, to me it's kinda like "yeah, OK, whatever, go die in a fire idiot."
...well not that extreme, but you know what I mean. |
"Heh" is an acknowledgement of slight humor. It is for something that is not worthy of "haha" or "lol," but it still makes you chuckle a little bit.
Perhaps you are saying "heh" wrong too. When I do it, it is very natural. Just a little half laugh. |
So long as it's not a repeated term in a conversation like "lol" or "hah" or something, I am cool with it.
In fact, I do it sometimes. Sometimes. It's not something I would consider a bad habit of mine, but I admit that sometimes, its a guilty little chuckle. There are other far worse things on the internet that get on my nerves. But really, when one term is used too much, it annoys me. |
I just use it as a term that when I find little shit interesting.
Shit on Muchosucko = "heh". |
"Heh" sounds way cooler than "lol" does. As means of expressing humor on the internet, I'd go for heh over lol. lol sounds very childish IMO.
|
To hell with that, I'm a REAL man, and as such, when I laugh, it is a mighty HA HA that echoes throughout time >=0
(A few of my friends say "heh", usually when they're showing dissaproval or half-hearted amusement. It is usually a bad sign when they say it, as it usually means they're angry.) |
I use heh all the time. Mostly because most people really aren't all that funny.
|
Heh.
See, my exact problem about 4 years ago. It's just somewhat of uninterested response or a mock. Either those two. |

Some got it, some don't. What do you want me to say?
|
Heh. I use it all the time. :(

Looking back at that now makes me sick to my stomach and 'heh' doesn't seem so bad by comparison. |

I prefer "heh" people over "lol/rofl/lmao" people at any motherfucking rate.
|
I only use it to show that I found something slightly amusing. "Haha" or "Hehe" tend to be used if I really mean "LoL." I don't often use the latter though.
|
Oh and by the way, if you change the position of the first H and the E, you'll get "ehh", which is a much cooler word to use!! Seriously, try it with some friends, they will be like O_O!!
|
I somehow can't even type lol and mean it. I always considered it like the poison that's slowly killing the internet intelligence.
|
Heh. I think of it as a sarcastic rude laugh. :D
That is if I want to be sarcastic and rude at the same time, I would use "Heh." Heh. |
Since when is 'heh' a trend? It's a very neutral way of expressing amusement, and has been around longer than you have been alive. And, man, first you say that 'heh'' doesn't allow people to express their own personality well enough, then you shit on people who have different ways of laughing online. Logic is packing its bags in a hurry.
And what's that about saying it out loud? You're not supposed to literally pronounce any onomatopoeia syllable by syllable; of course it's gonna sound fucking stupid. |
When someone fails to get a laugh from me (and I care about that persons feelings) I'll courtsey them with a 'Hehe' which is a lot warmer than 'heh' but still seems to encourage aiming for loftier humour targets; like: 'not quite a "haha" but I'm acknowledging what you're at least trying to do'.
As for internet trends, what's worrying is that when basic AI's, who mimic intelligence by recycling the most used and widespread memes and e-phrases, begin to filter into the internet as part of some dastardly plan masterminded by The Machines - we won't be able to point them out. It might be already happening. Do we have composite trend AI's at Gamingforce even now? |
I say "heh" a lot online, and it's usually when I'm too tired or busy or angry (ect) to find something funny, but would feel bad for not showing appreciation of a joke. It doesn't annoy me, neither does any of the other internet lingo, but I try and avoid using it all the time when I'm online.
|
I guess I have a tendency to mirror the chatting style of whomever I'm talking to. So if he goes "heh" a lot, so do I, and if he uses capitals and proper punctuation, I might too. I don't normally punctuate my chat conversations, as I don't consider chat to be a true written medium (to me it is essentially a form of speech). This is how I came to terms with things such as "lol" and smileys. Forum posts are a different matter to me, although I do use smileys, since they have become so integrated into our digital communicative culture that not using them is a statement in itself.
Uhm. So yeah, "heh" doesn't really bother me. One of my best friends uses it constantly. I've only seen him use "haha" once in the 5 years I've talked to him online. And he's still a friend (and he just bought a banjo, I mean how freakin' cool is that). |

I didn't crap on people who laugh certain ways. Heh is not a laugh, Haha is a laugh, LOL is a laugh , hehehe is a laugh, as much as it pains me to say it...bwahahaha is also a laugh. Ive used Haha, and LOL alot on here so id by a hypocrit if I said something about those, however I stand by what I said. Heh is stupid, was the first time I heard...and it will be until the last time I hear it. |

Heh is just a gentlemen's way to say that whatever you just said sucks ass. Accept it. Love it. Use it.
And LOL isn't a fucking laugh, it's an acronym that tries to depict laugh (failing miserably on the process). What happened to the old times where any emotion was portrayed using onomatopoeias? HAHA HEHE GRRR HMM Fuck LOL, and fuck you. I'm so goddamned hypocrite |
I don't think I've ever used "heh" myself, though I've seen it. I don't really care.
Online, I use "lol", "hehe", "haha". That's about it. I rarely use "lmao." In real life, I'll laugh... but I'll also use "roffle" and "lol". Yeah... I'll also use "stfu." |
Wow just wow, someone has a problem with the usage of heh x_x. Even if used repeatedly it wont bother me like that.

I ususally type out whatever laugh I'm actually using in real life while in an online conversation. If it's "Heh", that's what all the unfortunate people in my IRC chan get to see. Then there's the words I don't actually say out loud, like "lawlz".
This also depends greatly on what sort of company I'm keeping. I haven't really run into anybody who queefs a bubble over the occasional usage of "lawlz" or "srsly" or some others, so I keep using them whenever I feel like. |
Heh. I consider the expression as a half-chuckle bordering on the sarcastic. Real world equivalent? "Haha, suuuuuure."
What are your thoughts on: Hah Hahahaha Hee Hehehehe Heehee Hrhrhr |
Moved to General Dick-sucktion with all of the other stupid "I hate what people type" threads.
Heh. |
I use Heh in real life, and I know plenty of other people who do as well. I typically heh when I find something amusing but I don't naturally start laughing aloud. lol is a pretty idiotic and brain-sucking term, but I do tend to use it on when instant messaging if I actually was brought to laugh out loud at something. Which doesn't really occur all that often, so I typically heh.
I don't see what's wrong with heh if it's used in a consistant way, and isn't used mindlessly just because someone else uses it. I'd much rather crack down on the rampant and senseless swearing - not because swearing is bad, per se, but because the societal shock factor is so diluted when "bad words" are used so much. |
I use "heh" as an insult almost instinctively. Really, if you say something stupid, extremely boring or not funny, I'll respond with "heh" online or offline if I'm trying to be nice. But yes, I'd find it offensive if I said someone and got it as a response.
Same way I use "lol" or :)/:P to lighten a comment online. People seem to misjudge what I say because I use capitalizations and punctuations alot. heh. |
I use 'heh' a bit online. I only use it when i find something amusing but i'm in a bad mood or something and i can't quite get a full on laugh out. I don't use it too much, only when in a shitty mood. 'Heh' is just a step below 'lol' for me.
|
I'm a humph kinda guy myself.
and yes, I know humph and heh mean two different things. :) |
Anyone ever notice.
Heh + e = hehe Which by many, is acceptable.. But heh, just because it's deformed, or lost a limb.. your discriminate it.. What ever happend to equal rights! Did it just burn out in the great hemp fire in the 70's! I demand equal rights for "heh", and I will not stop until all "heh"'s are seen as equal amongst all other forms of expressions! I will see you in court missy! .dc |
I use heh a lot. Mostly when something is somewhat funny, maybe enough for a smile, but not enough for a real laugh. I think "heh" is better than *smile*. I dunno....
|
Seems like different people use it in different ways. I usually say it when someone's trying to be funny and I want them to go away. On the internet, I generally use it to break up a sentence if I think I'm taking myself too seriously, heh.

One more for the fight for equal rights on "heh"! (trust me, until someone laughs at this.. Im gonna milk this joke until it's seriously not funny anymore!) .dc |
