In. Definitely.
6. |
I sort of oppose the no Psychics/Dragons as a secondary typing rule because that does rule out some good choices for otherwise less-than-ideal types. For example, if someone gets Steel, then it means Metagross and Bronzong are both disqualified. The same goes for Fighting - Medicham and Gallade are lost. Water loses Kingdra. These are significant setbacks.
It only seemed unfair when a person's team was overloaded with Dragons or Psychics. I don't think they should be banned altogether. I would suggest that any team's roster cannot have more than two of any combination of Psychics or Dragons. That said, I'll still participate. I choose 14. |
Quote:
Steel and Fighting will have smaller pools to choose from, sure, but I've counted seven very competitive pokemon in both groups, and 2-4 others that would be a decent enough pool to make up the rest of their reserve teams. They'd be working under better conditions than Ghost, that's for sure. Lastly, Water and Ground will do plenty fine without access to Kingdra and Flygon. I see no real reason to add them when we already agreed last time that true fairness has to be thrown out the window to do Gym tournaments. But if I see there's strong support for Crash's idea (please voice it if you do support it), I'll restart this number-calling process. We won't need a full week to get all the participants signed up. |
I could definitely see the opposition for secondary typing because almost all fully evolved Dragons are double typed. If we only ban primary types, that only KOs the first and/or second form of the Pokemon.
But now that I received my type, I'm kind of against the whole banning thing since there seems to be some Pokemon of that certain type that makes up the OU category for my team. If those Pokemon are gone, then there goes my whole battling game. |
EDIT: Nevermind, we'll compromise here. Not to mention I just realized I, um, fucked this process up and gave people types based on the numbers they themselves chose; not based on the next member's number.
Each team will be allowed one Pokemon of the Psychic or Dragon type. There is no restriction on whether it is their primary or secondary type. Agreed? Chaotic and Crash, please reselect your numbers. |
Eh, works for me. As long as I could get one of them, I should be fine.
4. EDIT: Because Icy's right and for the record: 1332 5334 3114. |
I'll join in on this. Chaotic can have mystery number 11.
EDIT: Oh yeah, here's my friend code for convenience's sake. 3737-6076-6955 |
Shiiiiiiiit, so there's a chance I'll see Icy's Steven again.
I'll go with 13. |
We'll say that I'm in. I'll have to grab my code later though, as I haven't connect to WiFi with this cart yet. [So if you still have a code for me, go ahead and remove it. I'm not there anymore!]
Kairyu, you get lucky number 7. |
Well, I guess I'll put up a new ChocoDecided number in a moment.
And I'll start adding Friend Codes from the first tournament. If they have changed, please tell me! |
Whoops, I totally forgot that the CD number was 7. I can change it if you want.
|
Too late, it's already been replaced! 1 is now the off-limits number.
Not to worry though, I needed to change it for the reshuffling. The original post has been edited due to recent events, and in fairness I've also made it known what type I am-- Dark. |
I'll take 2 this time and hope for the best.
|
I shall pick the number 8 and I need to find my code...
|
If you guys know of anyone else who might be interested in participating, please talk to them about it. I know it's only day two of registration, but I'm pretty sure the all of the usual suspects are already present and accounted for.
I'll PM some of the people from last time who still post. |
I've got my team pretty much set to go. I'm iffy about my chances; my type is decent but comes with two very common weaknesses and doesn't have that many dual-type Pokemon to cover the spread. What I do get is a decent offense, but they can also be rather frail. I'm gonna have trouble if someone gets Water.
I got FIRE. I was hoping for Normal, Fighting or Steel. Oh well, this makes things interesting. |
Well, while we're all just revealing shit here.
I got FIGHTING this time. I was hoping for something a little more interesting as well. More importantly, since we're only limited to ONE of the banned types for the tournament, I have to choose carefully on which of the two available I should use. |
I'll give this another shot. I had fun getting stomped last time. I'll go with #10.
|
I got ground ftw, which is either going to be really fun or a huge failure ^_^
|
Since all of the hip and trendy people are revealing their types, I might as well too.
My type is GHOST. I actually had a tough time choosing which Pokemon to use, but they should prove to be quite fun. It's a shame Platinum hasn't come out yet here. Many of my Pokemon could benefit from some of the tutors in that game. Incidentally, is there anybody with a GameShark or a near limitless supply of TMs? I could use a select few, and I REALLY don't want to spend hours upon hours in the Fight Area earning Battle Points. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
Quote:
WHY DO YOU GET ALL THE GOOD TYPES?! Despite my team almost being completely weak to you, I'll help you out. Just give me a PM of the TMs you need and stuff. |
Hey, I'm Dark!
...Anyway, what I can say that's new is that I finished my team today and I'm ready to go. I think it's pretty good and very... non-dependent on dinosaurs. EDIT: Also added Kairyu to the participant list, since I had somehow missed him when adding everyone. Sorry, Kai! |
Ah, ok. And here I am half thinking I was kicked for absolutely no reason.
(Kidding.) I see everyone is revealing what their type is. Then I will, too. Mine is the one likely to cause the chilling rush you feel after a night's blizzard. Kicking ice at your face may do that as well but let's not get into semantics. Oh yeah, I have a QUESTION. Sorry. But can I have an exception to use something... like a legendary? Specifically the ice flyer, Articuno. For me it's useful at being an actual flying type and it has decent defense stats to boot. My choice list is horribly narrow as it is, so I'm asking. |
No, you will take your Froslass and deal.
|
I will wait for GB's answer THEN deal. Besides, I gave you the same treatment with the legendaries question from the last gym tournament. And I will say it too, its stats are not amazing enough to throw the competition into a loop.
|
Dude, I was being a wiseass.
|
It's tough since it's technically a slippery slope, but I guess I'll allow it. Most people here are pretty understanding, and it is a fairly underused and lower-tier legendary.
Because of this, I'm willing to review arguments for a single, lower-tier legendary in other teams. But only until we're done with registration! Additional Post of Great Import: In case anyone is out there, we have less than one full day remaining until the close of registration. I will be kind of busy at the exact time tomorrow, so I'm just going to wait until I'm home an hour or two later. Actual play should begin tomorrow evening or Tuesday. |
When we have our team ready to go, do we have to send you the roster? We did that last time to prevent massive cheating, and it wound up being interesting since everyone had a way to plan against their opponents.
|
We're doing it however it was done the first time around. So, I was planning on having everyone submit their rosters after the tourney. If someone saw a pokemon from that person during their fight that wasn't listed as part of their nine-man team, it could be called out.
That way no one has to reveal any secrets, and cheaters would be discovered. Or we could just use Rotorblade as a guinea pig (as I have been doing) and just PM our teams to him so that he can hang on to them as a neutral third-party. I don't care either way since I'm not concerned about cheating and would rather not reveal my team straight away. Oh, also, registration is officially closed! |
I'll have my team ready pretty soon.
I thought of a random idea we should do for tournament when Platinum is out and stuff... While not limited to just Platinum, how about a Color Challenge Round Robin Tournament? The silly idea is that we draw a random color and whatever color you get, you can only choose Pokemon of that color. For example, you get Blue. Your team could consist of something like Swellow, Lucario, Ramparados, Luxray, Blastoise, and Salamence. It could prove to be interesting. |
Quote:
Being Electric this time, I'm not sure what I'm going to use. I have to look at what I currently have... hmmm. |
But you get Rotom!! The fun value of Rotom is through the roof.
(Not that Electivire, Lanturn and Magnezone are anything to sneeze at either. I was hoping for Steel just so I could field my own Magnezone.) |
My team is ready to go. I don't have the full nine, but six should be enough anyway. Obviously, I won't be available 24/7, but I can certainly find a time slot for battling if PM'ed. I'm usually available in the late afternoon on weekdays (around 4 to 5 PM MST). Weekends are a bit more sporadic since my plans can change very quickly.
Also, hell yeah Rotom. |
I'm still getting my team ready, sadly. I should be ready soon, though. It's Poison for me this time around. I'll probably get my ass kicked. :P
|
Just need to plop movesets on, nickname some Pokemon, and I should be ready for battling.
This weekend? Bad time for me to battle since I'll be heading to Katsucon in Virginia for about two days. Otherwise, I'm usually available past midnight EST every day. Also, are we doing badges again? |
If Kairyu gets to use an Articuno, is there any chance I could use a Heatran? Fire is sorely lacking for many decent dual-types. It's stats are comparable to Articuno.
|
Except that it has a beastly base-130 Special Attack compared to Articuno's 95. Also has better defenses (from a typing perspective), so even if it is critically weak to ground, Heatran is a little too good for this competition. Besides, it's past the registration close date, so I'm not looking at requests anymore.
If it turns out that this Articuno was a mistake on my part and it starts tearing up teams, I'll go ahead and put an asterisk next to Kai's name in the rankings. Or maybe ban it from the finals. Dunno yet since nothing's happened. EDIT: That sounds a little harsh for Kai since he did nothing wrong and I'm the one who's allowing it. I just mean I'd make it clear for future tourneys that legendaries are probably banned for a good reason. |
Oh hey, results!
GB vs. Identity Crisis:
|
Simply put, I won because I was Dark and he was Ghost. There was no skill on my part-- not to mention Icy gave me that disconnected match even though he still had 3 or 4 guys left.
His team scares the bejeesus out of me. :tpg: |
Ok I have my team planned out and I should have them made and all set by tomorrow. Sounds like things are in full swing already.
|
inb4 Wobuffett team.
|
Well, since Wobbuffett has been banned and is so mentioned in the rules thus making it an impossibility to see that team... yes, you are in before then.
|
Quote:
|
I'm also under the assumption that a lot of people aren't finished with their teams yet, since we've only had one match in three or so days.
I'm still in class, but I may have time for another match this evening. |
I'm having a hell of a time getting my microSD to connect to my computer, but as soon as it FINALLY works I'll be able to get my team together. Sorry for the delay, I'll get it done ASAP.
|
I'm not sure if it's wise to be openly admitting that you've Pokesav'd your team.
|
Quote:
Anyway, has anybody seen Chaotic? Quote:
WHAAAT? |
Quote:
Also, the problem is the stupid microSD adapter that Cyclo gives you, and its compatibility with microSDHC cards. It works about 1% of the time. D: |
For what it's worth, I've used Pokesav to get extra TMs. I suspect a couple others have too.
As long as Sousuke's Pokemon have legal movesets and legal stats, I don't have a huge issue with using a hack device. I'll submit to the same scrutiny if anyone wishes. |
I'll back on Crash on this, I guess.
|
What the fuck? You have no say on anything ever.
I'm not concerned about cheating, so it's not necessary Crash. It'd be... kinda pathetic of someone to cheat in a smalltime Pokemon tournament on an internet forum, anyway. |
At any rate, my wi-fi is up and I'm ready to battle whenever someone else is.
|
If only, GB. If only..
|
So, it looks like I'm [sadly] going to have to drop this tourny. Apparently my save seems to have vanished, and I've got nothing. Even if I COULD play up to the point where I get access to the WiFi area, I'd still have to somehow arrange a team, and I just don't see that happening, especially since you guys have already started to battle.
Sorry about that, but I'll definitely start playing anyway, in case there's another tournament in the future. |
You only have to get to Jubilife to use Wi-Fi (maybe even only to Professor Rowan's town).
I'll supply your team. How about that? Just catch six Starlys or something. |
I can't believe I missed this one. I'll definitely be keeping my eyes open for the next one sometime in the future.
I still think it will be interesting to see how this one plays out though. Good luck to all of you guys. |
Dude, there's only been one match in almost a week, and one person wants to drop out.
ChocoDecided you 9, which makes you Grass. Welcome to the tourney! |
Haha, I'm slacking so bad right now, sorry GB! My team of six is almost ready. Just have two pokes that need better moves or EV vitamins. So possibly later tonight I will start issuing challenges.
(This would've gone a lot faster if I had myself a copy of Pokemon Platinum. Stupid ice moves.) |
Okay, well, if you're willing to wait on me, I'll see what I can do. I'm not doing anything tomorrow, so I'll play for a while and hopefully get up to that point. IF I can get the card to connect to my computer again, I'll try to get a team ready. Otherwise, I'll take you up on that offer, GB.
|
Back from my little trip and almost done with my team. I should be ready to battle late at night anytime this week.
|
Ok... so I just discovered that apparently Thunder Stones are practically non existant in Pearl and Voltorb is one of the Mass Outbreak Pokemon. Things aren't looking to good for me setting up a team.
I also realized this tournament might not have been a bright idea in the first place for me since my work schedule now really leaves me available at strange hours. |
It's not like someone couldn't trade you a Thunder Stone or 30.
|
Do you want a Voltorb with a Thunder Stone? I can arrange that for you.
In the meantime, I'm free to battle at any time now. Send me a PM or find me on AIM as "AltheRake" and we can rumble. |
I have an action replay so I don't mind hooking anyone up with stuff.
|
Pretty much all set up and ready to go. If you see me on AIM [Sousuke GFF] send me a message, and we can do our battle.
By the way, my FC... 0259 5604 6732 - Freya. |
I'll still need a few more days here. I don't have one of those new fangled cheating devices, so everything takes a bit longer.
That's alright though, I had a couple to leverage from old teams, and I've finished one more. So I'm about half way there. Expect me to be finished by this Thursday at the latest. |
Crash VS. Sousuke: Fire VS. Poison
Round One: This was short. Sousuke starter poisoned me and I burned him, so we were chipping each other away slowly. I knocked his starter out first, then surprised his follow-up with a powerful move. I then brought in a sweeper. Sousuke almost KO'd it, but I managed to power up with 16 HP remaining. Salac Berry activated and I swept his bench for the remainder of the match. Crash Wins Crash's Pokemon lost: 1 Sousuke's Pokemon lost: 6 Round Two: I brought out a tank to begin, which Sousuke promptly poisoned. We traded heavy blows; I KO'd his lead, but succumbed to poison and a quick jab not long after. I brought out something fast and laid on the flame for a quick revenge KO. I then switched out for something with ground immunity. So he Toxic Spiked me. GRR. I powered up again but my attack missed on a switch. Fortunately, the Salac Berry strategy worked and I amost died to a Sucker Punch but held on to sweep for the finish again. Crash Wins Crash's Pokemon lost: 1 Sousukes's Pokemon lost: 6 Round Three: We switched to 3-on-3 for the remaining battles. I led with something well-rounded, Sousuke brought out the same. A quick burn reduced the damage from a Poison Jab, and I finished it off next turn. He turned around and hit me pretty freakin' hard but I got lucky and held onto 9 life, and took it out with an elemental attack. He Sucker Punched me with his replacement, and I lost my starter. But I had anticipated that he'd use that particular Pokemon and had a counter for it. One attack later, he was down. Crash Wins Crash's Pokemon lost: 1 Sousuke's Pokemon lost: 3 Total Lost: Crash - 3 Sousuke - 15 Fun match, Sousuke. Sorry for beating you so handily. I had access to EQ, which probably didn't help you. EDIT: I am now wondering why Sousuke didn't bring Tentacruel out against me. It's fast as hell and has access to Surf. It would've given me a lot of problems. |
Sorry, I'm late. Uh Weavile ate my TMs.
Anyway, I have the minimum six needed to go down in flames (of victory.) Working on a seventh, sort of, but I'm tired. Better to save my energy for tomorrow since I have the day off on Monday. So I'll try to be on AIM and MSN most of the day. I'll of course pester everyone with PMs, too. |

Brrrrr it's cold
*Stealing Crash's format to keep things organized.*
KAIRYU VS. IDENTITY CRISIS: Ice VS. Ghost Which is colder, I wondered. Round One: It was brutal. I even made a mistake on my first move and paid for it dearly. I think I lost a good 3 Pokemon straight away, just OHKO after another really. Hoping I could recover from it I eventually brute forced my way through his first and then second Pokemon. Few more blows were exchanged but the damage was too great. Not to mention it was difficult to predict. So bad I even fell for one of the ghost types favorite tactics. Which I will happily call "the force." Yes, that was the final blow. Worst part is I literally could not do anything about it. What a horrible way to go. Identity Crisis Wins Identity Crisis Pokemon lost: 3 Kairyu Pokemon lost: 6 Round Two: All it took was one match so I had a good idea what his plan of attack was. Acting on it I immediately setup myself up to out pace him before he could do anything about. A couple heavy storms later there wasn't much left on his side. He managed to take out my main hitter but it didn't matter. I just used something even faster and froze him in his tracks. Everything freezes eventually! Kairyu Wins Identity Crisis Pokemon lost: 3 Kairyu Pokemon lost: 1 Round Three: IC you wily bastard. *insert random rape event here.* Following that I died a hauntingly slow death. Topped off with a side of "the force" maneuver. Identity Crisis Wins Identity Crisis Pokemon lost: 1 Kairyu Pokemon lost: 3 Round Four: A true battle of attrition right here, folks. It was a SLOW match. I'm not sure how long this took but it eventually came down to me evading an attack and doing the perfect amount of damage to his last ghost. He basically killed himself with too much power. Ohhohoho :monocle:. Kairyu Wins Identity Crisis Pokemon lost: 3 Kairyu Pokemon lost: 2 Round Five: FINAL ROUND, FIGHT! I took off all the brakes here and performed a near perfect sweep. He couldn't trick me anymore since I saw his hand four times already. All in all, winter came and left everything bitter and frozen. From the sidelines Articuno watched in delight at my eventual victory then we all had hot chocolate. It was awesome. Kairyu Wins Identity Crisis Pokemon lost: 3 Kairyu Pokemon lost: 1 Total Lost: Identity Crisis - 13 Kairyu - 13 Fun and close matches there. You know how to use those damned ghost pokemon. Yes, I nearly pissed my pants. |
Crash vs. Identity Crisis - Fire VS. Ghost
Round One: This was a battle of attrition. We traded off KO's for several rounds until he managed to bring out a staller and pass off some powerups. He then turned the tables on me and took advantage of my own advantage. Fortunately, I'd laid some traps that helped me maintain the balance. We both whittled the other down to our final Pokemon, and I'd been saving the best for last. His tank was met with a rather punishing move and it was enough to score the win. Crash Wins Crash's Pokemon lost: 5 I.C.'s Pokemon lost: 6 Round Two: We dropped to 3 Vs. 3 for speed and suspense reasons. I opened with a tank and managed to seriously injure his opener with some serious firepower and an incidental burn. But he was laying on the ground assault and it was really cutting into my HP. Thankfully, I predicted well and brought in something that was immune. I dispatched his opener but made the error of attempting to power up instead of immediately attacking. Two turns later (thanks to some mojo on I.C.'s part) I lost my sweeper. I brought in my specialist and got a lucky flinch which prevented a sure OHKO. That was enough to get the victory. Crash Wins Crash's Pokemon lost: 1 I.C.'s Pokemon lost: 3 Round Three: I opened with a different tank and immediately burned his opener. I was right to do so and immediately burned it, saving my hide. He still hit me hard but I managed to get a significant dent in before my Pokemon fell. I brought the sweeper out again and finished off I.C.'s Pokemon quickly. Unfortunately, he had an answer and I was unable to do enough damage before I.C. got in a devastating attack. Down to our last Pokemon, I knew he'd be using the one that caused me the most grief, and I the same for him. He pulled some of his mojo again and took a nasty chunk out of me but he was weak to my STAB attack and, thanks to some planning by my opener, the cumulative damage was enough to do I.C. in. I barely squeaked by in the last match. Crash Wins Crash's Pokemon lost: 2 I.C.'s Pokemon lost: 3 Total lost: Crash: 8 Identity Crisis: 12 Very intense matches. Ghosts aren't easy to play as a team but I.C. managed it well. He knows which one really pissed me off. |
KAIRYU VS. CRASH LANDON: Ice VS. Fire
Round One: What happens when you toss an ice cube into an open fire? It melts, much like the way this round went. Sure, I did some collateral damage with what little water I had to toss around. It was just way too hot for my kind. I did however manage to freeze one of his pokes, but like any fire type it immediately thawed out and destroyed me in the same turn. Crash Wins Crash Pokemon lost: 3 Kairyu Pokemon lost: 6 Round Two: More of the same. I snapped back with some blizzards though. I was of course slapped back with a plume of liquid rocks ;_;. Crash Wins Crash Pokemon lost: 1 Kairyu Pokemon lost: 3 Round Three: It got a little interesting here. I wasn't doing too hot (pardon the pun) yet my ground tactics did give me a chance to snuff out some of that hot fire. I even managed to get him down to his last pokemon. But Crash's tank absorbed my last blow and made a flashy victory. My icicles, you vaporized them! D: Crash Wins Crash Pokemon lost: 2 Kairyu Pokemon lost: 3 Total Lost: Crash Pokemon lost: 6 Kairyu Pokemon lost: 12 Good game Crash, even though I saw it coming. What with the laws of thermodynamics and all! |
Identity Crisis vs. Chaotic: Ghost vs. Fighting
lol bandwagon Round One (6v6): The first portion of this match started off humorously. Both of us lead with a Pokemon that did absolutely nothing to the competition. I guess I wound up powering down his Pokemon slightly, but we would be stuck in a stalemate of doing completely nothing. We switched out and started with the bloodshed like nothing happened. :tpg: Despite Chaotic's disadvantage of not benefitting from STAB all that often, this game was rather close. We kept trading blows and exchanging Pokemon until Nikka came along and provided custodial duties cleaning up what was left of Chaotic's team. I finished Chaotic's last two Pokemon off with a special sweep followed by a special side order of "the force." I win! Pokemon I lost: 4 Pokemon Chaotic lost: 6 Round Two (3v3): I don't remember too much of this one. I used "the force" again on his last Pokemon though! I win! Pokemon I lost: 2 Pokemon Chaotic lost: 3 Round Three (3v3): Oh good gravy. This match would be the reason why I couldn't remember too many details on the last one. It took forever. Anyway, Chaotic started off with a Pokemon that pretty much couldn't kill mine except in a slow, slow, slow fashion. To top it off, one of mine was immune to a portion of his tactics, so it would take even longer to take down. Eventually, it takes down one of mine, and I switch and finish it off. By that time, most of mine were somewhat injured, and Chaotic's cleanup crew finished me off. Chaotic wins! Pokemon I lost: 3 Pokemon Chaotic lost: 2 Round Four (3v3): This one was REALLY close. Both of us started off with strong leads, but his got the jump on mine in terms of speed. Sure, mine went down first, but Chaotic's lead would be too injured to take another hit from my next. Chaotic countered my choice with a Pokemon knowing a severely damaging move, but I was able to predict what the move was and avoided some nasty damage. We switched back and forth until settling on two Pokemon to fight to the death and, again, inadvertently fainting each other. Our final Pokemon would determine the winner of the game. Mine would absorb the damage from Chaotic's attack and retaliate for OHKO damage. I win! Pokemon I lost: 2 Pokemon Chaotic lost: 3 I win the match! Finally. =p Total Pokemon I lost: 11 Total Pokemon Chaotic lost: 14 Awesome games though. I have to admit that my games have been enjoyable so far. |
Alright. It has taken a little longer than I expected, but I've finished my team and am ready to start.
I work tonight until around 6pm EST, but when I get home I'll start issuing challenges. Though I think I have most, if not all of you guys already, here's my friend code in any case: 2406-1602-4421. Feel free to message me, as well. My AIM/MSN are listed, and you can always PM me. EDIT: Also, what's the word on submitting our rosters to an unbiased third party (Rotorblade or otherwise)? Should we go ahead and do so if we have not already? |
Black Mage vs. Chaotic: Grass vs. Fighting
I stole your format and double posted. :psyduck: Round One (6v6): Grass against fighting; this match up promised to be interesting. Neither grass nor fighting inherently has an advantage over the other when looking strictly at the base types. However, with many grass Pokemon sharing the Poison attribute, and fighting’s varied typing I did not know what to expect from Chaotic. But I learned. Oh did I learn. The match started off fairly normally. With a bit of luck on my side I managed to connect with a fairly low accuracy move. It allowed me to get an early lead by knocking Chaotic’s lead, a major threat to my team, out. But that certainly did not deter him. In fact, he matched me blow for blow the rest of the match. When one of my Pokemon knocked his out, his followed suite and returned the favor. We followed this pattern until we ran out of Pokemon, leaving Chaotic with one and me with two. At this point, Chaotic’s hand was forced, and we ended the match. Black Mage wins Pokemon Black Mage lost: 4 Pokemon Chaotic lost: 6 (5 + 1 from running) Round Two (3v3): I was worried about this match having experienced Chaotic’s team from the last round. He definitely had enough Pokemon that I dreaded seeing again to fill three slots. I led with one of my “benched” Pokemon from the last round to switch things up, and I was lucky in that I guessed Chaotic’s lead. Dispatching the first Pokemon didn’t stop Chaotic though, as he swiftly exacted merciless justice on my team. Not before my lead had weakened his Pokemon a tad. Chaotic’s demon chariot was released, however, and quickly obliterated my second Pokemon, leaving me with nothing but my own bitter tears. Fortunately, there was a bump on the ground and the chariot's aim was off, which allowed my Pokemon to set up and stall for a second win. Black Mage wins Pokemon Black Mage lost: 2 Pokemon Chaotic lost: 3 Round Three (3v3): Round 3 was everything I feared. Bloodlust, cold blooded murder, and nothing but the sound of the forest being razed to the ground. Chaotic knew what he was doing and he cut my strands of grass to pieces one by one. I couldn’t get any momentum amid the bloodied cries of my dying Pokemon. Seriously, this match was an absolute slaughter. Chaotic wins! Pokemon Black Mage lost: 3 Pokemon Chaotic lost: 0 Round Four (3v3): Coming out of the last match with nothing but the hedge clippings of my team, I decided it was time to switch things up. I did the only thing I could think of and tried to prepare for the sweeping monster from before. Chaotic threw me for a loop though, and led a different Pokemon. Though one no less fierce. I managed a lucky hit from the start, but then did not see Chaotic’s move coming and lost the advantage I just gained. Chaotic proceeded to punish my mistake and ONE-SHOT-SUPER-EFFECTIVE murdered my pocket monster. Fearing the worst, I threw my original monster back out there and Chaotic made an excellent move which caused me to waste a turn. Excellent prediction on his part. I lucked out though, and was given some time to setup and was able to knock it out. I didn’t have much of a choice at this point, as his hell-spawn demon beast had returned. Fortunately, this time I had already set up. Despite that, it was barely enough to defeat his Pokemon. Chaotic’s last pokemon, the dreaded CHARIOT, returned, striking fear into the hearts of all that beheld it. Having already setup, though, I was able to keep it at bay for some time. Eventually, Chariot regained its footing ready to ruin my day, but it was just too late and I managed to barely scrape out a last win. Black Mage wins Pokemon Black Mage lost: 1 Pokemon Chaotic lost: 3 Black Mage wins the match Total Pokemon Black Mage lost: 12 Total Pokemon Chaotic lost: 10 Amazing matches. Luck was definitely on my side at certain points, as moves that usually miss were hitting almost every time. Any single one of those matches (Except round 3 :() could have turned the other way at any point. Great matches, Chaotic! +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ Black Mage vs. Kairyu: Grass vs. Ice Don’t look at me like that. It was really cold. Round One (6v6): This is definitely one of the match ups I was dreading, and most certainly one I tried to plan for when picking my team. Though, judging from the results you would not be able to tell. I tried to guess which abominable snowman Kairyu would lead with, but in the end I was completely wrong. My lead hung on through the initial snow storm but was swiftly pelted to death. My lead managed to help out a little, and allowed me to bring down one of the ice monsters, but speed coupled with pin-point accuracy lead my entire teams demise before they could make it past Kairyu’s third. Kairyu wins Pokemon Black Mage lost: 6 Pokemon Kairyu lost: 1 Round Two (3v3): After dusting the snow off of the frostbitten remains of my team, I decided to switch up a little bit and introduce an unlikely contender (for the simple reason that he was not four times weak to Ice). He got one good lick in, if you use the term good loosely, and was promptly dispatched. My switch in swatted away Kairyu’s lead, but in vain as his next monster decided it was to become a vegetarian. And it was hungry. Kairyu wins Pokemon Black Mage lost: 3 Pokemon Kairyu lost: 1 Round Three (3v3): Having decided my only chance lay with the Pokemon I was already using, and with the experience of the last battle, I knew this one wasn’t going to be much different. I give Kairyu credit, however, as he was a good sport and switched things up each round, even though he more than likely could’ve shut me out me using the same Pokemon. It mattered not, however, as despite forcing a switch from Kairyu, it was just too much to handle. Kairyu wins! Pokemon Black Mage lost: 3 Pokemon Kairyu lost: 0 Kairyu wins the match Total Pokemon Black Mage lost: 12 Total Pokemon Kairyu lost: 2 Good games Kairyu! I can’t say I had a sound strategy for your blistering Ice types, and even if I had I can’t say I’d have expected much of a different outcome! |
Identity Crisis vs. Black Mage: Ghost vs. Grass
Ha ha, alliteration. Round One (6v6): To start off the match, he lead off with a tank while I used my specialist. However, I was pretty certain his tank could takes hits from my specialist all day long, so I wound up pulling a trick out of my sleeve to render his tank incapacitated and forced a switch. He used, well, another tank, so my Pokemon tried to make as much of a dent as possible before going down in a slow blaze of glory. I switched into another specialist of mine and finished off his second tank. We kept trading hits until he brought out a Pokemon that could take ghostly attacks all day long. He kept powering up for some pretty nasty attacks, but I knew what was coming if I tried to brute force my way through. It still wasn't enough since Black Mage saw what I was doing and used a not as effective but still quite lethal alpha strike to take down the remainder of my team. Black Mage wins! Pokemon I lost: 6 Pokemon Black Mage lost: 4 Round Two (3v3): Oh, God. Now I know how Tritoch felt when I used Apocalpyse against him in an earlier tourney. My Nikka was rendered useless while his Pokemon kept striking. Also, burning lawn mowers doesn't render them completely incapacitated apparently, especially when they can take down my poor fragile little ghosts before they can strike back. Black Mage wins! Pokemon I lost: 3 Pokemon Black Mage lost: 0 Round Three (3v3): Blargh. I wish I knew more details about this game. All I can remember is that I made a timely switch once my tank's mojo ran out. I think "the force" might've been involved too. I tend to forget about games when that's used, oddly enough. Oh well. We agreed that this was the match record though. I win! Pokemon I lost: 1 Pokemon Black Mage lost: 3 Round Four (3v3): I get the distinct feeling that I won this purely from Black Mage's mistake. He had no idea what Salvador was capable of, and Black Mage's Tentacruel (yes, that's what it was called) wasted three turns trying to incapacitate him. During that time Salvador made a severe dent in his HP as well as immolated him and slapped him silly. Black Mage brought out the bane of my team once again, and Salvador went down fighting. It was then that I brought out Nikka for "the force" and took down his threat. Our final Pokemon, my tank and his lawn mower, stood off and exchanged blows. His, however, wasn't quite as capable of taking hits as much as mine was since mine would hit for super effective damage. I win! Pokemon I lost: 2 Pokemon Black Mage lost: 3 Round Five (3v3): Wow. This was an intense final round. I started off with my fast sweeper to ensure that I'd get some fast hits in while he lead with another tank with an awesome name (abstained to say since it might reveal what it actually is). Anyway, he expected me to use "the force" again, but I expected him to expect that, so I just went in with regular old brute force. His tank was barely alive by the time he finished my Pokemon off, but his Pokemon was right where I wanted it. I switched into my tank and set up Black Mage against some strange mojo. He tried poisoning my tank, but I had some herbal medicine to take care of it. Next, he sent out the bane of my team once more and knocked my tank down to 2 HP before succumbing to a lucky critical hit from my tank. His lawn mower would stand off against my tank once more, but thanks to my setup, I had the upper hand. His lawn mower was critically injured, and Salvador finished it off before it had the chance to strike. I win! Pokemon I lost: 2 Pokemon Black Mage lost: 3 I win the match! Total Pokemon I lost: 14 Total Pokemon Black Mage lost: 13 Wow. Those were intense games, admittedly. Luck was really on my side when it counted, and I barely squeezed out of that with a victory. My match win record might make it above 50% at this rate. :tpg: |
Between my schedule, being sick, and honestly haven bitten off more then I can chew lately... I haven't gotten anything done towards my team. I'm gonna drop out because I really don't want you guys to have to wait around for me. I won't attempt to sign up for future tournaments unless I have my overall collection in better order.
|
I'll be available for matches all day. I still have to face GB, Chaotic, Black Mage and NinjaGuyDan. Find me on AIM at AltheRake or send me a PM if you're ready.
|
Similarly, I've a bunch of matches to play. I've only battled Crash so far. I'll be home by tomorrow [Monday] so drop me a line on AIM at Sousuke GFF [even if I'm marked 'away'] and I should respond.
|
Ok guys sorry I have not been battling anyone lately, I've been bogged down with work. But I'll be free tonight for the next few hours and tomorrow for sure.
My aim is guybrush33 |
Sorry guys, I've been neglecting the shit out of this tournament, I know. I'm going to take the sissy way out and say the past two weeks have been crazy with my classes, which led up to a bunch of exams today. Now that things have quieted a tad, I will be issuing challenges and updating stuff this weekend.
Additional Excellence: As promised, I've added much-needed updates to the opening post (including Sousuke's Friend Code, the little type tabs, and the current records for all participants). Finally, right?! This is only the beginning, I assure you! Challenges may come later today. Not sure yet. |
Just popping in to say I also have time to play matches today and tomorrow. I sent PMs last week about this so you know who you are! If you're not too busy just contact me via PM, AIM or MSN IM and we'll get started. I promise I won't bite, that's my team's job.

I battle Icy the other day, but forgot to keep track of what was going on. I remember that he won the match, but I put up a decent fight.
Round 1: Icy wins Round 2: DRAW! [Damn you, The Force!] Round 3: Sousuke wins Round 4: Icy wins [though I came close!] Round 5: Icy wins. The Force. Again. Sorry I can't give much more detail than that, it's a little fuzzy now. I should've thought to write all this down during the battle. :tpg: |
Finally got another match done. The only match I didn't record down myself, I have to report. What the fuck....
Chaotic vs. Kairyu: Fighting vs. Ice In this match, we build ice sculptures with our fists. Match 1: 6v6 I knew jumping into this match that I would be at a slight advantage due to the Fire/Fighting dual types. To start off, Victor led Kairyu's team. I sat there thinking to myself, "Oh, it's a [Ice Pokemon here], I should be able to set up with Jecra and pass on it's stats and sweep the hell out of his team. WRONG. Victor used AERIAL ACE! It's super effective! Jecra fainted! :gonk: Throughout the whole match, I get foiled by a bunch of Focus Sashes and Kai finally gets to his last Pokemon. All I had left was Charade and Chariot. I attempt to slow down his last Pokemon with Paralysis, but once again, I'm foiled by another fucking item (f u lum~). I attack with Charade only to be roared away. Being that Chariot was my only Pokemon left, I wasn't worried. A Stone Edge sealed the match. Chaotic wins!! Chaotic loses 4. Kairyu loses 6. Match 2: 3v3 FOCUS SASHES AND DEFENSIVE COWS WTF. Kairyu wins!! Chaotic loses 3. Kairyu loses 2. Match 3: 3v3 LATHER, RINSE, REPEL LOSSES. Chaotic wins!! Chaotic loses 2. Kairyu loses 3. Match 4: 3v3 That cow is really starting to annoy me. There's two things I learned from this match: 1. Status attacks will never work for me, but they'll work for everyone else. 2. The Focus Sash is a really evil item. Chaotic wins!! Chaotic loses 2. Kairyu loses 3. Chaotic wins the match!! [Final Score: 3-1] Chaotic loses 11 in total. Kairyu loses 14 in total. ~~~~~ I never expected the matches to be so damn close. It was a lot of fun though. :3: |
My pc crashed wedensday so I haven't been able to do anything, so I think I'll have to pull out of this one. sorry guys.
|
Another one bites the dust. :(
At least it was the person whose type I am weak to. :) Still, bummer. I was willing to lose just for a good match. |
Okay, so basically that leaves me. I better get on it.
Fear not gentlemen, this competition will be over before Platinum is released. |
Unless Crash still wants to fight now, of all times, I can still do our match tonight. Unfortunately, I'll be busy all weekend, so I might not have the chance to fight. Weekdays might be a little better, but 11 PM and beyond that are fine for me if that's alright with whoever still needs to fight me.
After Crash, I still have to fight GB and Sousuke. o__o |
Any chance of reviving this when Heartgold and Soulsilver come out?
|
Not this particular one, no, as I failed hardcore at managing it and schoolwork at the same time.
But I have no doubt we'll do another Gym Battle for those games next year. I'm actually sort of itching to do another, but it's better to wait and not burn out. |
Yeah definately, give people some time to get used to the game and such. I can't wait for another one though too.
|
At that point, I wouldn't mind doing this all over again. I always love a good tournament~
