Demon's Souls - So the world might be mended. So the world might be mended. So the wo
I came across this while reading up on Yakuza 3, since the two titles are being released closely together. This is supposed to play like King's Field (<333) except for the fact that it is third person. Not only does the music and atmosphere give it an awesome, epic feel, but the monsters. Holy fuck D: They look really fucking creepy. Due out in Japan in February of 2009. Here's to hoping we get it in the states... :( Because this looks INCREDIBLE. May '09 Edit -- If you don't want to wait on the US release for some reason, you can import a copy of this and play it in almost perfect English right on the spot. E-store details are listed in a later post on this page. |
I refuse to believe people actually like King's Field. I owned King's Field 2 for PS1 back when I was like 11 and I fucking hated it then. That said, the graphics are nice?
|
King's Field IV - The Ancient City (PS2 game) was my absolute favorite of the series. I tried playing the first ones again lately, but they didn't "age" well. The Ancient City is still a blast, though. The gameplay footage shows stat screens that are identical to King's Field. It's a spiritual sequel, it seems.
|
Wow...that game makes me wanna get a PS3. It looks awesome the graphics and everything look great. The dragon at the end of the trailer looked wickedly cool. I hope we do get it in the U.S.
|
Well...
Here's hoping my roommate will buy a PS3. :< |
I thought the TGS '08 Gameplay trailers were disappointing.
Demon's Souls - TGS 08: Castle Crashing Gameplay (Cam) HD Demon's Souls - TGS 2008: Raiding The Castle Gameplay HD (Cam) This new trailer made the game look a lot better though, so I guess I'll have to see how the game ends up in February before making any judgment calls. Also, HD video of the 3-minute trailer on youtube: Link - Be sure to click HD |
Time will tell. King's Field has never been a thing that folks in the US had a raging boner for >:\
and hay who edited the thread title. I don't give a shit how the game looks. The fact that it is built on the same gamesplay as KF is why I'm excited. |
I was pretty disappointed when I saw that this game was a PS3 exclusive as I have no interest in the damn thing. King's Field, Shadow Tower and Eternal Ring were all great games but I can see why other people wouldn't be into that.. genre. Maybe now From Software will get around to making a sequel to King's Field, I mean, they can't let their very first franchise die just like that.
Also, I hope this game gets a soundtrack. Yuji Takenouchi is amazing. |

Though I think I'm going to surprised if it doesn't sell well (maybe not well, but at least decent) over here in the US - some people have been trying to compare it to Oblivion - mainly because it seems more like a Western-oriented game to me. Anyway, I wouldn't sweat the lack of an announced US release. The fact that it was pushed in Famitsu (it had a two-page spread a few weeks ago) and TGS - and it's published by Sony - basically makes it 99% guaranteed to come over. And the Asian version is entirely in English. Some of the early pics I enjoyed: http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.ps...ssouls0001.jpg http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.ps...ssouls0007.jpg http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.ps...ssouls0011.jpg |
Awesome news. Thanks for the heads-up Ryuu =D Great pics~
|
Wow, I've never seen this new trailer. It looks pretty good, tho I doubt the storyline will be anything epic.
|
Yeah, if it's in the KF vein, the storyline typically isn't impressive. Mute main character in a labyrinth finding out about stuff. That's the basic formula they follow.

Demon's Souls: Making the Ultimate ARPG - PS3Hyper
Lots of information on the game (customization, online, story, etc.) in that article. |
Sort of looks like a Japanese take on the Western PC RPG genre. Hopefully From Software learns how to take full advantage of the dual analog sticks built right in every Sixaxis and Dual Shock 3 controller.
I have only played Eternal Ring from From Software and it was a terrible game. The concept of using rings for magic was neat but it moved slowly, the graphics were sub Dreamcast quality, even though it was on the PS2. Admittedly it was a launch or near launch title so the expectation I suppose wasn't there. The one thing that pissed me off though was that it did not use the analog sticks at all. That really hindered gameplay to me and ultimately I just gave up on it. This game looks more promising. |
Boxart revealed.
http://www.gamed.nl/messages/97896.jpg Also, I noticed another article with a bit more info (classes, people, etc.) on the game: The Demons In Demon's Souls, Deep Customization Options Explained - PS3Hyper |
I was watching a stream of the game the other day, the player died at the same spot from the same enemy at least 10 times. Is it going to be released in the US at all? Or is importing the asian version the only option here?
|
I saw a new gameplay trailer a couple days ago as well. Looks pretty slick :V Only graphical quirk some folks will gripe about is the executions. Enemies get warped on to you when you do 'em, it seems. No biggie.
|
Aww, I love King's Field very much; it's probably my favorite series. The first one (in Japan) was unplayable, but the three released in the US are great! I am very excited with the hope that Demon's Souls gets a US release.
Even if it doesn't, I'm wondering about importing. I've been reading now (at the onset of this game) that the PS3 has no problems playing other regions discs, without even any modding. Anyone know if this is true? P.S. If you don't remember me I use to post in this forum about two years ago, maybe a little less. I went for a LOOOONG time without a computer but am finally back. I will have intentions to download via FTP servers, but am going to hold off until I can post a bunch first, to prove that I am real :P. |
All PS3 games are region free so importing is always a possibility as you can play any PS3 game on any PS3. Blu-Ray movies are, however, region encoded.
|
Bumping this to say a few things:
Firstly, no news on a US release. But this doesn't matter one bit. The version released in Asia has perfect English text and dialogue (not Engrish. Although there is a rare line that sounds a bit odd). I ordered it and started playing just last night. I have to say that I haven't had this much fun since Shadow of the Colossus. The logistics in it are incredible, and the cleverness to the levels/enemies is jaw-dropping. I finally reached the first real boss, and it was remarkably fun. The turn-off to some folks is that the game is very, very difficult at times. However, there are lots of strategies for numerous difficult points in this game. Buy it from these places: #1 #2 #3 Once again, I can't stress how incredibly cool this game is. It's difficult and will curb-stomp you at times, but it's also one of the most clever things I've ever played. A shame it probably won't make it outside of an Asian PS3 release, because it is definitely going on my top ten at this point. |
I am considering playing it just to pop into Gech's world and grief the fuck out of him by slaughtering him when he ain't looking.
|
If it doesn't get announced for the US at E3, I'll probably import this. However, it's pretty damn expensive. Not impressed by the price at all, and it seems unlikely to drop as the regular stores are out of stock, and ebay is the main place to get it now.

http://www.atlus.com/res/demonssouls..._midtext_3.jpg So, Atlus is bring Demon's Souls to the US. Confused as to why it's going to take till Fall 2009 though. Isn't the majority of it already in English? |
Just because a game has english text doesn't mean it makes fucking sense.

Really, they just need to touch up very few pieces of script. Aside from that, the status screen should have an overhaul. Strength, speed, luck, etc are all odd symbols. I've gotten used to it, but had to reference a Wiki on occasion initially. The imported version is 100% playable. Unless Atlus releases some nice bonus content, I won't bother buying the US release. |

Eurogamer gives Demon's Souls a 9/10: Demon's Souls Review - Page 1 // PS3 /// Eurogamer - Games Reviews, News and More
|
Demon's Soul and the monsters that are going to destroy you.
The game is "Demon's Soul" and from what I've heard, this game is suppose to be extremely brutal but incredibly rewarding. Atlus is releasing this game over here in October, it's by the developer FromSoftware.
Here's the trailer for it: YouTube - Demon's Soul PS3 Trailer (HD) From what I've heard as well, the Korean version has full english text and dialogue, the only thing that's not translated is the manual. Has anyone here imported/played it yet? What have you thought of it? I've heard that being a mage can make the boss fights way too simple but other than that it's suppose to be a great experience. |
Import copies cost an arm and a leg. I bet the American copy will be cheaper. I'm very interested, but waiting for the US release. Incidentally, there's a thread by Gech about this already.
|
Shit, I tried searching for it and hit no results about another thread. Sorry to any admin that has to clean this up.
I don't find the import copies too much. But that might be because a lot of games here cost like 69.99, and to import this game it only costs like 75 bucks, plus like 4 dollars shipping. |
The game is hard as hell, but it's fantastic. I'll probably re-buy it once it's stateside, but it is 100% playable in its Korean version. There are a few instances of Engrish, though, but the voice acting is flawlessly done, oddly enough :psyduck:
Lots of steep difficulty curves. Once you clear a tricky spot, the game just ramps it up. "Oh. You had trouble with one of these guys? Okay. Now you'll fight three at once. While archers are shooting at you. Have fun :)" |
There's also an AP bar which decreases EVERYTIME you do a specific action, so you can't basically go and rush enemies.
Oh and if you can master riposting, it's gonna save you a lot of headache. Personally I haven't mastered it yet. |
Yeah, riposting is something I never do. It just isn't my play-style. I block and strike. My dude can't maneuver all that great.
For the most part, you'll find rings and weapons. Your initial armor is probably the same armor you'll always have (barring shields). Also, armor heavily decides your maneuverability. My platemail-clad knight can do a roll, but it is hilariously slow. |
Picking this one up today and preparing to cry like the little girl that I am.....
Dead or Alive meets Contra meets Ninja Gaiden. Ugh. |
Mine's shipping from Amazon in the next couple of days, so I should have it by the weekend, which is perfect.
|
I got a text saying I could pick it up this afternoon, which I intend to do. Looking forward to doing some co-op with you guys.
|
Lukage --
Bwuh? :V It's King's Field meets, Ninja Gaiden (difficulty sounds about right though). Not seeing where DoA comes in to this :argh: Folks will be GRIPING about this game's difficulty though, most definitely. I sold my International version for $60 on Ebay (lolwhat) and will re-buy the domestic version in the near future. Was perfectly playable, but not without its glitches (which Atlus addressed). Also, unless you wanna get griefed, play offline until you're used to the combat. There is a special spear that will DESTROY your armor/weapon/etc. If you come across a dude who fights you with that, you'll be paying astronomical amounts to get fully repaired once again. Also, choose your class wisely. Chances are, you won't be changing your base armor that much at ALL in the game. Your wands, accessories, weapons, and shields will shift around, though. Enjoy getting destroyed. Past a point, get used to losing TONS of souls. That's right. If you die, your souls (currency for EVERYTHING. Stat increases, repairs, weapons, buying spells, etc) will be left where you kicked the bucket, surrounded by a fresh spawn of enemies leading up to that point. If you die again, that cache of souls from your first death are GONE. However, if you ragequit the game following a death, your stuff will be there when you start back up. Always reassuring =) Personally? I'm gonna give Uncharted 1 another crack (demo felt really lame to me initially) in preparation for #2. I'll hit this up around Xmas probably :3: Edit: Deni dissed this for no reason whatsoever it seems :V |
Plus they NEVER tell you what sections are difficult.
"hey there's a lone knight with a spear. THIS WILL BE OVER IN 5 MINUTES" ::knight sees player, charges with spear drawn:: ::2-hit KO:: Plus when you die, you go back at the beginning of the ENTIRE dungeon. And like Gech said, ALLsouls you've accumulated will be gone. Forever. It's doable but it will definitely frustrate. |
Yeah. If you have a gut feeling of something horrible being up ahead, YOUR GUT IS FREAKING RIGHT
Thankfully, you open up short-cuts throughout levels (ie: open a portcullis, unlock door, etc) in addition to wiping out annoyances (ie: red dragon in the first world that does passes along the huge wall, spewing fire. Get about 100 arrows, position yourself right, and pew pew pew until he dies. FOR GOOD <3). The game's difficulty curve is pretty hilarious, too. You might think "I finally have this tricky mob figured out", but the game then throws three of them at you at once. Hell, one of the later bosses can DE-LEVEL YOU, evidently. |
Quote:
Of course, the reason people play with a DM like that is because he plays hard but mostly fair, and when you eventually defeat all his tricks, the sense of satisfaction is enormous. Therein lies the appeal I see in this game. Once my damn copy eventually crosses that wide Atlantic ocean, I'll find out if I'm right. |
Well, that sucked. I went into GameStop and asked if they had the game, but the guy responded with "Yeah, I guess a lot of people got that text, too. But we won't get it until tomorrow."
Ah well. I'll just look at classes and figure out what kind of character I want to make. |
I couldn't figure out where to get anything other than warrior-ish gear (I'm a Priest) so I held on to my 10,000 souls in the phalanx area with the dragon. Fucking dogs. One hits you and then if another one does, you're dead. They knock you back and forth.
So I'm in the second area with nothing. Where the shit do I get spells and whats with the girl telling me to go up the stairs and talk to the statue? Where the hell do I go? I went all the way to the top. Also angst at the spear guy in the first area worth 2000 souls. I died like 12 times to him until I got him to walk off a ledge.... So I lost my 10k and said fuck it. Accidentally used the soul of the phalanx beast (no clue if I should have kept it). Buying gear sucks because the different gear had no stat differences. I cant buy spells or make use of the wand i got. I can't SELL any items... I find a message saying "Its safe here" and walk on the bridge only to get mowed down by the dragon. I can't USE most of the weapons I get because I'm a fucking priest! AUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH! FUCKBALLS! At least I got the Deluxe and yes, I'll be playing again tomorrow. Fuck. |
Yeah, the dude with red eyes is guarding the Old King's tomb I believe. You head there later (once you have a key) to handle him. His attacks are all thrust-based, so he's in an ideal placement; the parapet is really narrow with little room to maneuver. Lure him back to get to open ground and you can run circles around him.
There's one part where you see the dragons in the distance just hanging out on a cliff. Once you kill mistah red dragon, you can head over and grab those items. Time it right and you can get all but one of them. You're supposed to head WAY to the very top. There's someone you talk to at practically the very top of the room. Following that, you can burn points on stats, I believe. Also, like I said earlier, play as the armored dude on the cover for your first run-through. Most other classes are too damn squishy. The thief and ranger are awesome to play as, but only once you know how to maneuver properly. Otherwise, it's one huge handicap. Plus, chances are you won't be changing much if any of your body armor throughout the game. It's all accessories, weapons, and shields. Hold on to boss souls in the future. You use them to create unique weaponry once you gain access to the special smithy. Look around on ground level if you want to buy spells. The guys are hanging out around there. Just poke around. And yes, dogs suck. But if you think DOGS suck, wait until you see skeletons. Those guys will give you an aneurysm. |
For those who have played it, do these unknown soldier's soul (and other souls of this variety) have any other purpose other than consumption? I'll be holding onto the boss souls after having read this thread, but I've gotten quite a few of these other souls, but am afraid to use them.
This game is definitely a lot of fun so far and I've died my fair share of deaths. I've only cleared area 1-1 for now and have explored 1-2 (that dragon sucks...but so do the dogs...), 2-1, and 3-1 (those octopus things...if they paralyze you, good luck...) a bit. Can't wait to play it again tonight. |
They're for consumption. But special monster ones (aside from, say the small Fire Dragon) are used for making uber weaponry. Therefore, be sure not to use boss souls. I'd hold on to those soldier souls items. See them as "safe". If you die, those'll stay on you. Only use 'em if you need a bit more souls to buy something or want to splurge. If you don't touch 'em, they're your rainy day souls :V
Try 4-1 if you guys wanna cry. Seriously. The game is rather non-linear, but some parts are really sadistic. I found 2-1 to be relatively simple, honestly. Hit it up ASAP. There are one-time-kill mobs that carry sacks. If you kill them, you get a TON of ore (splinters, shards, chunks, etc). Can't farm 'em, but making an initial sweep is recommended. Also, dogs do suck. Facing a pack of them is tricky. Just block and bide your time. As far as farming spots? 4-2 and 2-2 are the most well-known locations, I believe. 2-2 is probably the best. I never got to those, but they're supposed to be awesome. |
I was able to pick it up yesterday, as the guy called me and admitted he was silly and dumb and had completely missed the box they were in.
Made a female Temple Knight since the starting armor for a Soldier looked ridiculous. I tried my best to kill that very first boss to see what exactly happens, but he was cheesy and got a combo off of my stagger. Did any of you guys do it? Seems like it's simple enough to beat him. In any case, finished up with the Nexus stuff, killed the red-eyed Knight a couple times, got a blue-eyed Knight to drop a Boletarian Shield (first time I've seen that in the 50 or so times I've killed 'em), and then just now finished Phalanx. It's good, but I don't think it's the absolutely incredible game it's been hyped up to be. Still, I'm a fan of From Software, and they've at least got some solid gameplay behind the intriguing atmosphere this time. |
Quote:
EDIT: Yeah...fuck 4-1. I lost 9000 souls there just recently...first time I couldn't make it back to my body too...fuck. |
On the flipside, if you have a magic zappy stick, the skeletons are not really much of an issue. As a rapier user though, they are rough when trying to melee. Piercing doesn't work on them, for obvious reasons. Use a large class shield like the easy to get purple flame one for blocking the black skeletons, but they can stagger you quick. Like most enemies they fall to range attacks really quickly though.
On the flipside, if you can learn to pop the blue skeletons, and their archer friends, you can avoid the black one and just move on to the point of grabbing the compound long bow in 4-1. That plus the hard arrows sold by the hyena guy you save in 2-2 makes your game considerably easier. I managed to clear up to 1-3, and all of world 2 so far. The compound long bow makes things almost too easy at parts, though. I'm working on making it vicious level 1, and then hopefully taking that to vicious +5. I have most of the mats, just need a handful more splinter of spiderstones. PS, 9000 is nothing. It's when you lose 45k that rage kicks in. Especially when it's some invading asshat. |
I still haven't left Boletaria Castle (1-1, I guess it's called). I've just been looping through the place-- going up the roof, killing the red-eyed knight, going through the courtyard, past the bridge with all the soldiers, then down the tower with the blob things for some hardstones. I get about 5000 souls and one or two stones every time, so now I have Evacuation and most of my weapons and shields up to +2.
Grinding this same place has already gotten pretty repetitive, but the game's pretty good about displaying the fruits of one's efforts pretty quickly (like being able to wield the Shield of Blue Flame and the Claymore with one hand). I'll probably move on pretty soon, though. |
What soul level is everyone? If anyone's similar, we could see if we could find a spot to drop blue stones and meet up there, but the lack of voice chat would mean it would be easier to communicate via xbox or something similar if you've also got one of those.
Mine's 30ish. |
Since I've focused most of my souls onto purchasing Evacuation and making repairs, I'm only level 17 or so. I'll catch up pretty quick though, I think.
|
Soul Level 28 and I'm through the first two stages in World 1 and through the first in World 2. Fuck world 3 and its magic. About to go to 2-2 and try the (what I assume) fire boss.
The hell with those slugs. Is there an easy way to kill them? |
Okay fuck this shit. The Flame Lurker has eaten up 7 of my Ephemeral Stones now. My WT is fucked and I can't even take out 25% of his HP. He stunlocks me and then AoE, stunlock, AoE, stunlock, AoE.
Whats worse is that Water Veil and the Purple Flame Shield don't actually give fire resist... My magic and intel are at like 12 apiece..I guess I'm off to farm skeletons for 30 hours so I can afford higher spell damage to...maybe kill him. Maybe. Seriously this boss is unfair beyond belief. |
Erm, is the fire shield being held up? The fire resist isn't passive from the shield, it only mitigates damage if you're actually blocking with it and the attack hits it.
Also, using Ephemeral stones as revives and HP boosters is missing the point of the stones, unless you're using them to look for and gather blue phantoms. And if you managed to get even one, the boss would drop quick. If you have 12 magic, you can learn a spell, at least. Let him roll toward you, hit your shield, and then roll the fuck away, even if you have no remaining stamina and have to do it between small rests to regain some. Don't magic him unless he's in the middle of his punch animation. Use Soul Arrow or something. I'd help but I doubt you're in the range of soul level 50, so. |
I got my copy. So far all I did was get killed by the tutorial boss, and end up in the Nexus as a disembodied soul. Shortly I'll be making an attempt at a real level.

Is it worth the use of a summon on him? I don't want the summon to be a one hit kill as well. I'll try again after work tonight but with my stats I SHOULD be able to take him on....should be. Additional Spam: Lost 40k farming for skeletons. Tried to get to 4-2 and died before even being able to hit the fat boss there... Best I could do is target him and shoot a few arrows. Going to ground level was even more laughable....I got up to 40k just from trying to GET to that point. FML. |
What do you mean, worth the use of a summon?
The stones that turn you into body form are limited, but there is no expendable that is used for finding blues. You find a blue message on the ground and activate it, summoning the guy. That is the action that's the entire point of being in body form. The counter point being that while you're in body form, some black phantom polesmoker can invade. The blues are subject to the same level +- 10 stipulation that the blacks are, so there won't be a 1 hit. Using the stones simply for the HP max boost is pointless, since you lose the stealth element soul form provides, making them useless outside of boss fights and/or blue phantom finding. Of course, dying so many times in body form probably pushed the WT to solid black, eh? Even getting down there using the shortcut, and assuming you're neutral CT and wearing Cling, you're what. 70 percent normal HP range or something? -------- PS. Anyone down for some item trades? I need a few mats for Dark Purple Flame Shield +5. I need 9 chunk and 1 pure Cloudstone(s). I can trade several other things, including a spare hiltless katana if you don't feel like the headache that is BP Satsuki. Soul Level 82. |
I've got tons of Cloudstone, actually.
I should be playing most of the day today. I talked to a customer yesterday who says to just summon a player for the Flame Lurker. I was under the impression that the blue were even more uncommon than the Ephemeral, plus I didn't know how effective the summon would be. I'll give it a shot and maybe dick around with it. |
Cloudstone shards are nothing. I have 99 stored and am constantly throwing away the rest. It's the chunks I'm worried about.
You need to be at a level 72 <= L <= 92 though or we won't be able to trade. You can only drop your blue phantom stone to be summoned by others, not to summon people. You need to be in body form to even find the blue writing in order to summon, though. You don't summon people via an item, you offer yourself TO be summoned via one. |
Quote:
I spent a couple days screwing around with beating the tutorial boss though, so I'm not very far in yet. I've had a lot of fun pushing the limit of what can and can't be done with my character though, like trying to kill that dragon in 1-1 but having the fucker fly away at 30%. Walked over to pick up the treasures back there, and as I got the last one WHAM, oneshotted by tailswipe scaring the shit out of me. King's Field moment, right there. Awesome, awesome shit. |
Well crap. Someone needs to drop one in front of the Flame Lurker then....I waited around for like an hour this morning.
|
It just instances those words in when you load into the game. Not when you sit there. Buy evacuate and cast that, then reload and proceed down again, if you use the shortcut that could take two minutes at most.
|
Motherfuckers. Got him. I ditched some items and wore two fire resist rings....and tanked him without tanking any damage.
Ugh. Dragon.....I worked on summons. I understand how it works. Ended up dying, aiding someone on the lurker, getting 7500 souls. Spending souls, going for dragon since it brings me back alive. Summon, have failure partners. Finish it myself: Success. I'm tempted to find a group that we can farm the bosses with...wished some of them knew how to take on the dragon god. Even at a partial rate, the souls are worth it. |
I played this briefly. I gotta say... I try to abuse EVERYTHING just to kill whoever. I'm the "keep away" sort and I never really like upclose combat and try to avoid it whenever possible.
First run, I managed to get all the way the two knights (red/blue) and I was afraid. DEATHLY afraid of them. I saw the blue one first and decided to run the other way and saw the more nastier RED ahead. I caught his eye and he began chase. Holy shit, I RAN the whole way back. I turned around several times in such paranoid fashion. Nothing. I went back and I saw him just standing there just before the downstairs entrance from outside of that edge walkway. I caught his attention again, and like before, I ran like mad. I had an idea of luring him into that hole from the beginning. Again, I saw he wasn't on my ass. I went back, and caught him "stuck" at the upper entrance that leads out to the outside wall walkway (where you can fall off from). I managed to get a few free hits in since he couldn't move his spear as he was being blocked halfway from the wall. He managed to move freely and I again ran like mad. After knowing that he probably lost me again or so, I turned around not long after. Messing about in those narrow stairs as I went back looking for him (again in paranoid fashion), and all the sudden, I got 2000 souls. I was like the hell? Oooh, he must had fell off! I ran up there to the edge and found his body over the edge. Too bad I'd die to just pick his stuff up. :\ But it didn't matter, I got his souls. I then moved ahead up to the blue knight... with little less fear this time, and fought him a bit and barely whittled him into death really. (I'm playing as a Knight, which took a toll on my stamina I think from wearing that heavy armor.) I got upwards to something like 5k of souls which was a nice sum for me to go back to get that Heater shield and a couple of upgrades/smithing and but for some life of me, I decided to pull ahead anyway and fell into that section of a pit where the ally was (which was the best idea I ever had) and started lobbing those fireballs I had been reserving. Pretty dang useful for mobs of those undead from there. I managed to pull ahead and just kept lobbing and accidentally killed my ally (his health was pretty low due to my using him as my scout and defense onto those other knights). I figured oh... I probably should restart or something... but nah, lets see what lies ahead! And twice in a row, I died from walking into a cache of gunpowder barrels with a undead fucker lobbing a fireball. He could only kill himself to KILL ME. ;___; Then I decided holy crap, this game is going to be the death of me. |
Dear Grim Reapers in 4-2:
I fucking love you. PS: No seriously, 6,000 souls just 1 minute into the stage? Hell yes. |
Is your character female? If so, she can wear the silver bracelet, and that stacks with the ring of avarice, which, when combined with pure black world tendancy, makes sure you get far more than just 6000 per shot.
Plus, don't forget to shoot the manta right out the door for another 1000+. |
The manta are bastards and harder to hit than the regular ones. I'm light WT there...helped a guy go through and take down the boss. Getting a good feel for it, but how do you try to take on the LAZER CHARGIN guys?
|
The shadowmen?
In most cases against the laser dudes, you have range and/or height advantage, so pop them with arrows or spells. Alternatively, kill the reaper. There are 3 reapers, and each controls the room's shadowmen. If you're looking for reaper 2, he's halfway down, where you encounter the first giggling female shadow...person I guess. Watch out and make sure she doesn't backstab you for the instant kill. That *sucks*. |
Well I've got a strat down, but basically head-on just is going to hurt?
The first area with those, I get the first guy as he goes up the stairs. From that point you can hit the reaper below. Soul level is 65 now, so I'm working my way up... |
Just cleared this at soul level 96. Last boss is very disappointing, sorry to say. :(
Overall, pretty solid title. I love the stage design and how you've gotta be on your toes 24/7, and if you fuck up but once you're pretty much shit out the backside of a cannon, but I didn't like the drop percentages when grinding for weapon mats, nor the inconsistency of the bosses. The grinding drop percentages got annoying, even with a high 35+ luck and a sword of searching, it can take you way too long to get some pieces. To the point where it stops being fun, and that's a big downer considering how fun the combat here is. Although the bosses...some of them were ridiculously easy (anything in world 4 or 5 was an absolute joke with a bow), but some pretty much required you to be an epic cheap ass to complete with any consistency, simply because they seem designed around one solution, and if your build can't do that competently, the only option left to you is being a shitheel. All in all though, the combat is fucking excellent and the game's super ballin'. Awesome. |
For anyone who's still playing (hard to believe all of you would be over this already), Atlus is doing a Halloween event this weekend that gives free Black World Tendency to anyone who logs into the server. This can be a good or bad thing depending on what you're trying to do in each world, sure, but I may as well point it out.
I logged in and out a couple times to get to Pure Black, then went into 1-1 and pushed Black Phantom Miralda off a cliff. Got myself that nifty Brushwood set while I was there-- good thing too, since I'm told it disappears if you don't nab it. Tomorrow is Satsuki. |

I keep telling myself I'll get back to this game, but trying to get the platinum in Uncharted 2 has been on the forefront of my mind (since my roommate basically said he'd probably have to new game+ Demon's Souls three times before he can platinum it, and I don't have that kind of time). |

DON'T RUIN MY IMMERSION, DENI :argh:
PS: I don't give a fuck about platinum awards and stuff :-\ |
I think most people here don't care that much about achievements. Some people will go out of their way to complete them for games they like, maybe even just tolerate, but I've never heard of anyone avoiding games they don't feel they can get all the achievements for.
That's just silly and dumb. |
I never said I was avoiding the game because I couldn't get all the trophies. I LIKE Demon's Souls. A lot actually. It's just I like Uncharted 2 a lot more, and I'd rather go out of my way to get the platinum in Uncharted 2 than play Demon's Souls at the moment.
I was just saying, or trying to say, that I don't plan on trying to platinum Demon's Souls, no matter how much I like it, after seeing all the hell my roommate is going through trying to get all the materials to make the weapons (or needing multiple playthroughs to get all the miracles and magic). I don't get where you guys are getting the fact that I won't play the game because I can't platinum it. :/ |
You (inadvertently) stated you wouldn't go back to it because, as your friend pointed out, it would take several playthroughs to get a platinum trophy, and you don't have that kind of time. Especially if you were busy getting that pesky platinum in Uncharted 2. Maybe you didn't mean it, but the fixation on platinums insinuated it.
Though, if you wanna get technical, only one person directly addressed you while the others followed with generalized statements. Huzzah lack of specification! Glad to see you haven't gone off the deep end with achievements, though. |
Yeah, now I see that what I wrote didn't entirely convey what I meant to say.

I know miles and myself both had issues with the ink on the guide being shoddy, and now atlus realizes it too.
