GFF Soundtrack Vol. 3 - Political Palace
Alright, here we go..
Like all the other GFF discs, we'll be aiming for 15-20 tracks clocking in at under 74 minutes (go figure). Since this is the Political Palace, we want songs with a message. Protesting or supporting, it doesn't matter, but generally the music is just going to be a way to get the artist's standpoint across. Genre doesn't matter. Anything is good. Hell, if you've got a speech you'd like to submit, I'm all for it (consider length though) .The one limitation I'm gonna throw in is the nominator must be able to explain what issue or message the song deals with, if it's not incredibly obvious (It's not like I'm going to question it if you suggest RATM). Also, songs dealing with race are O.K., but no nazi shit. Sorry, Skrewdriver fans, but that's why we have the Sewers. We don't want repeats from last time, so don't suggest: Rammstein - Amerika The Offspring - LAPD System Of A Down - Boom! John Lennon - Give Peace A Chance John Lennon - Imagine That's right, we only got 5 tracks together last time. We can do better than that. Please post a link to your nominations at one of megaupload.com, rapidshare.de or yousendit.com. Finally, don't go overboard with nominations; keep your list a reasonable length. My suggestions: Frank Zappa - Trouble Every Day Neil Young - Southern Man Last Poets - White Man's Got A God Complex |
The Beatles - Revolution
Edwin Starr - War |
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - The Dead Flag Blues
Monologue behind the music:
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Blaise Bailey Finnegan III Monologue behind the music:
Megadeth - Holy Wars/Punishment Due Spoiler:
|
Probably should have mentioned earlier, but I think we'll try for one track per artist. Like the GY!BE choices, but just a nod that most likely only one will get in.
|
Fair enough, I'm really just tossing equal opportunity tracks out here. Whatever goes in the final is okay by me.
|
U2 - Sunday Bloody Sunday
U2 - Pride (In the name of Love) Sunday Bloody Sunday is about an IRA Bombing, thus aptly suiting the whole suicide terrorism issue, and Pride is a civil rights song as a tribute to the late and honorable Martin Luther King Jr. |
Adam, I don't want to be mean here, but are you that dumb? One nomination per artist, as per the coordinator's request.
As for my nomination... Immortal Technique - Freedom of Speech |
The Cranberries - Zombie
Definatly a good song. Oh yeah. |
Quote:
The one track per artist doesn't make sense either, one track per artist on the CD yeah, but only one per artist completely restricts how much we can bring in. Especially when it blocks music from some bands such as U2 who have dedicated so much to political movements. |
Bad Religion - I Want to Conquer the World. Because, deep down, no matter what side they're on, no matter what the issue, everyone's absolutely convinced that their view is the best one, period.
Avenue Q - Everyone's A Little Bit Racist. Ah, race... One of the staples of PP debate. But hey, admit it: we're all a little bit racist. Why lie? If we all could just admit That we are racist a little bit, Even though we all know that it's wrong, Maybe it would help us get along! EDIT: Took down the song links to make room for other things. If anyone needs them, PM me and I'll re-upload them temporarily. |
This is the only mix im going to contribute to because knkwzrd is an awesome dude, plus i know so many political songs.
Phil Ochs - One More Parade circa 1964 Spoiler:
Sun Ra's Nuclear war is also a good song. |
Comin' at ya:
Moxy Fruvous - Gulf War Song An excellently written song about how we reconcile personal disagreements over war while trying to remain friends. Genesis - Jesus He Knows Me A classic about hypocrisy and self-righteousness. |
Bad Religion - Let Them Eat War
Spoiler:
Billy Bragg - Waiting for the Great Leap Forwards Spoiler:
Communist Billy Bragg laments about the lack of progress shown by by Russia, Cuba and China. He trys in invigorate the great leap forwards. I'll get them uploaded on the weekend when I actually have bandwidth to spend. |
Oh, yeah "Eve of Destruction" by Barry McGuire (or the The Turtles, if you like it less rough)
Spoiler:
|
Kanye West - Crack Music (feat. Game)
Outkast - Gasoline Dreams (feat. Khujo Goodie) NWA - Fuck Da Police Cunninlynguists - Dying Nation Disgruntled Negro - Dark America Kidding on the last one of course.... |
Insanity by Boingo gives a darker interpretation of American society. It's so very good, though:
INSANITY Spoiler:
|
Less than politically correct, and most would consider it inflamatory. But you can sing along!
"The War of 1812" By Three Dead Trolls In A Baggie. Spoiler:
|
Please post lyrics in spoiler tags. They take up too much space, and clutter the nominations. Thanks.

Actually, I see no reason why that one wouldn't be fitting. |
Well, it's one of my songs and probably wouldn't be included 'cause it's me.
|
If anything it should be included because it's you. Who can mention PP without someone thinking of NP?

"worlds Apart" from Springsteen's "The Rising". It features a pakistani backup choir and highlights the differences and similarities between the US and Middle east...seems appropriate for the PP. "Empty Sky" from the same album is also good.
While we're at it, how about "The Sickness" from Disturbed, seeing as there are some pretty disturbing ideas presented here sometimes! |
|
Anti-Flag - The Press Corpse
Spoiler:
Anti-Flag - Free Nation? Spoiler:
Hell, we should put all of Anti-Flag's work on here and call it a day. |

Oh wow, they sound identical. I actually had to go pull out my CDs and check on that one.

I'm also going to throw in another track: Sly & The Family Stone - Don't Call Me Nigger, Whitey |
Love - The Red Telephone
Spoiler:
|
Thanks for the lyrics, but I think the tablature might be a bit excessive. :p
|
I just didn't feel like editing out that. These were the only lyrics I could find, and they were included, so...
|
|
Yaphet Kotto - Fact Nor Fiction
Yaphet Kotto - Circumstantial Evidence Boards of Canada - One Very Important Thought Beastie Boys - In a World Gone Mad |
I think I should add in Live - What Are We Fighting For? just for good measure. The lyrics are a little bit juvenile, but the song itself is good.
Other suggestions that are a bit more specific in their focus: Lamb of God - One Gun (corruption) Spoiler:
Pulse Ultra - Despot (subjugation, personal freedoms) Spoiler:
Unearth - The Great Dividers (for politics) Spoiler:
Black Sabbath - War Pigs Spoiler:
|
Guns N' Roses -Civil War
Black Eyed Peas -Where Is the Love? Billy Joel -Leningrad And something not so war focused... Kamahl -The Elephant Song Spoiler:
|
Could someone sticky this? Thanks.
I'm very much liking that Immortal Technique track, Capo. Also, could you get a link for the Love track? I've lent my copy out, and don't know when I'll be getting it back. |
I'll have it to you by next weekend. Glad you enjoyed the Tech, too. :)
|
1. Machinae Supremacy - Seventeen (YSI) (Lyrics)
2. Machinae Supremacy - Legion of Stoopid (Lyrics - this lyrics file is missing the not-so-subtle "Don't.. vote.. for.. BUSH!!") 3. Machinae Supremacy - Soundtrack to the Rebellion (Lyrics) 4. System of a Down - B.Y.O.B.* (YSI) (Lyrics) *I have a lossless copy. |
Genre: rock (anti-government/establishment)
Rage Against the machine - Guerrilla Radio Rage Against the Machine - Killing in the Name I think one of RAGE is good enough, don't really need 2. Personally I like Guerrilla Radio better. I'm sure you have rage or someone does Genre: Punk Leftover Crack - Gang Control (anti-police, pro-demonstration) Spoiler:
|
Peter Gabriel - "We Do What We're Told (milgram's 37)"
A somewhat vague song, referring to the 18th Milgram experiment on Authority vs. Conscience, in which 37 out of 40 subjects complied with the scientist ordering them. See here and here. The Decemberists - "16 Military Wives" Spoiler:
The Who - "Won't Get Fooled Again" Spoiler:
I was surprised this one wasn't nominated last year, it's a classic. :o ~Na-keya |
Hey Capo, just a reminder on that Love track.
|
Here's the whole album:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IH4X2UW6 You definitely need to listen to the whole thing, anyway. Enjoy! |
Alright, so I put this thing together. The following is the final track listing. It comes in at 70 minutes 54 seconds. Don't bitch if your song didn't make it. Choices were made based on time, catchiness factor of the song, and whether or not I thought the song was a piece of shit. It's a pretty good mix of "classics" and newer stuff, and I substituted some rarer, live versions of cuts that were suggested. It goes like this:
01. N.W.A. - Fuck Tha Police 02. The Mothers Of Invention - Trouble Every Day 03. The Last Poets - White Man's Got a God Complex 04. Sun Ra - Nuclear War 05. U2 - Sunday Bloody Sunday (Live) 06. Moxy Früvous - Gulf War Song 07. The Cranberries - Zombie 08. Oingo Boingo - Insanity 09. Immortal Technique - Freedom Of Speech 10. Black Sabbath - War Pigs (live, alternate lyrics) 11. Love - The Red Telephone 12. Barry McGuire - Eve of Destruction 13. Billy Bragg - Waiting For The Great Leap Forwards (live, alternate lyrics) You can get all the tracks here. |
This looks to be one of the best albums on the entire soundtrack, in my opinion. Great job getting all this together so damn quickly, man. Thanks a bunch.
|
Thanks yourself. You've done a great job organizing this whole bit.
|
Good track list. Probably the best outta the whole group.
