Persona 2: Innocent Sin Translation Project
So, some of you may remember that before Persona 3, there was a Persona 1. Strange right? =0 Well, get this, there was a Persona 2. Now, Persona 2 hit US shores, but it was a follow-up game (akin to FES for Persona 3, although a full game in itself). The first installment was called Persona 2: Innocent Sin. Unfortunately, this never made its way to the US.
Recently, a fellow has been translating it. That's right. And his progress? He's at 98% as I post this. Anyone else keeping their eyes on this? Really looking forward to this release. I've been watching it since he was at 30%. Fiiiinally almost done :wrings hands: |
I've been keeping my eyes on it from the start. I'd love to play this. I'd also love it if anyone was to re-translate the original Persona from Japanese and include all the content omitted from the American version. It's a good franchise.
|
Actually Gech, the Persona 2 that hit the states, Eternal Punishment was the second volume of P2. Innocent Sin was the first volume. Aside from that though, these were two completely different games, with different stories (although I guess EP would be more like a continuation).
Anyway, I tried playing Innocent Sin once in japanese... :( |
Oh? =x I thought we got the first installment and missed the second!
Hmm. Thanks for the clarification! |
This of course begs the question... anyone got an .iso of Innocent Sin?
HERE WE GOOOOO: Demonoid.com - [PSx] Persona 2: Innocent Sin [NTSC-J] w/English Script The "English Script" in the torrent is just a separate document file, so the iso should theoretically work with the upcoming patch. |
as a side note for popstation compatibility:

I tried to play it with the english translation separate and gave up in despair. This is new hope though, holy shit. I'm so excited. =o

I was under the impression that neither Persona 2 installment worked well on the PSP... :( Some cruel, sick joke. I tried the one that hit the US but it always locked up in combat. Or it'd get all glitchy. |
ah yes, the guy on Mother3.org was mentioning this. I look forward to it as well...

Last I heard, they were almost done with it. Too bad that doesn't mean shit without some kind of link, I'll check around.
|
Guys, you all know that the Policenauts translation project is more important than all the rest. Get serious.
But yeah, I still haven't even played the original Persona, let alone 2 and 3. :( I've been meaning to, and it'll definitely be sweet to play this section of the second installment. I've heard nothing but good things about it! |

The Mother 3 translation portion is done, they're still owrking on the test playthroughs before doing an initial release.
I mean I know how frustrating translation projects are, personally I'm gay for the Mystic Ark translation (one day, my sweet.....................) but this one is being worked on at a good clip. Anyway I remember hearing about this back in the early naughties, so I'm happy to see they're almost finished. Is it going to be a patch, or that gay-ass 'we release the translation script and you just play it in runes and read our translation' bs? |

Great timing, thanks for the heads up. I just finished Eternal Punishment about a week ago on the PSP, and loved it.
I haven't found Revelations: Persona nearly as enjoyable as 2 or 3 thus far (Mark danced crazy!), but I'm definitely stoked to play Innocent Sin without having to refer to a companion text document. I imagine Innocent Sin will work pretty well on the PSP, as Eternal Punishment worked fine, with an occasional freeze, when you put in Innocent Sin's Game ID instead. |
I have been following this project closely over the year and been excited about the recent progress. I have actually held on to Eternal Punishment in hopes of plaiying both back to back. Amazing in that age when most every rpg of note was being released here that this one slipped through the cracks of Atlus. But hey we all couldn't of lived without Atlus localizing Thousand Arms lol
Off topic but since some have talked about other translation projects, is there anyone out there that know about the Tactics Ogre SNES translation. They were supposed to be using the PS1 translation last time I saw news but it seems like progress just stopped. I really would love to play this since I hear there are zero load times and better quality of music. Not to mention they actually have full item names and not that weird 5 letter crap Atlus had on the PS1. |

even though I'm unlikely to download the iso and play it, I'm still excited. Is that gay? |
I heard it wasn't so much that it slipped through the cracks as Sony rejected it for a lot of the content, and they weren't so sure either. Since like, Hitler is a character in it, and there's high school violence at a time when school shootings were more common.
I'm pretty excited about this. I've been following it since like 70%, does that make me a noob :(? I hear it's kind of interesting if you play EP first, but to get the full impact, you need to play IS first. Definitely looking forward to this. |
So we need a modded console to play this patch right? Can a modded PS2 work with this? My PS2 can play burned PS2 games, but I have yet to test it out with burned PS1 games...
Though I guess the worst case scenario is to use popstation on the PSP |
No. A Modded PS2 cannot play burned ps1 games unless it has been chipped and/or you are using the memory card exploit with a fliptop mod.

I don't see how this is worse when you can also save wherever you want. |
Well I much rather play it on a TV screen then a small PSP screen....

Very annoyed, since here in Sydney I have a download limit. Looks like I will need to look elsewhere... EDIT: Found this. http://www.snesorama.us/board/showthread.php?t=5136 Two mirrors, I'm getting opiumized's version to see if it works. Christian uses mediafire, while opiumized use megaupload. |
I will upload my image of it somewhere.
Keep an eye on this post later on this evening (CST is where I'm at, I will do it once I get off of work.) Hmm. I forgot to do that lastnight. I feel bad. I'll try to get it done today. |

Anyway, thanks in advance to ^-^ for the upload! Torrents haven't been kind to my connection recently, I guess I should look into that. |
I am going to say that the SNESORAMA links will be generally more reliable and faster than my link.

I've never known Snesorama to ever be fast or reliable :( Sigh. |

I seem to be the only one who likes Megaupload. To me MU is awesome cause if I googled around and found a MU link for some rare song or other files, it usually means the link could be over a year old and its still working.
Rapidshare and sendspace? They are always dead. Anyways, I got the ISO but as it turns out, my PS2's chip cannot play pirated PS1 ISOs. Good news is that I will need to make a trip to Hong Kong for my US visa process (dual citizenship makes things such a pain), so I am gonna see if I can pick up a cheap modded PS1. If not, emulator. |
NEWS : They just updated their blog with a picture saying that it'll be released October 15. Awesome. :)

Have you seen the latest post on this guy's blog?
The patch is indeed delayed « Persona 2: Innocent Sin translation blog What a fucking whiner. I mean, I know this group is doing this for free, but could this be any more obvious that he just wanted an excuse to delay the patch? I'm definitely sure it's not because of the "psychotic posting and flaming" on the comment board. He's just lazy and he doesn't want to put in the extra work needed to finish on time. What a waste, geez. http://tsumi.wordpress.com/2008/09/0...-eat/#comments Here are the comments that he got upset about. So a few (like, 2 or 3) assclowns decide to troll about 4% of those 300+ comments and he punishes everyone who's been looking forward to this project by delaying it indefinitely? Are you kidding me? |
Yeah Jazz, it's a little upsetting, and the kid's probably young, or you know, easily frustrated etc etc. Still this kid is like the only one working on it, so I figure he gets a little leeway as a result.
Now I'll be really pissed and calling him all sorts of ugly things if he drops it entirely this close to the finish. |
Yeah. I was hoping this to be awesome since it's the day after my b-day. Oh well. Congrats to the cocksuckers for starting shit and to biggest fuckin' loser for getting mad over a lousy blog entry.
|
I'm sure he would have delayed the release regardless of whether people were flaming on the comments or not. If no one was flaming, he would have cited "issues at work" or some family illness or whatever, he just felt this was an easy scapegoat.
The problem is, while those other excuses are understandable, this excuse makes him look like a tantrum-throwing baby. |
That's what you get when someone has all of the power ._.
|
What a fucking twerp.
GONNA TEASE YOU BECAUSE PEOPLE PICKED ON ME~ I'm not biting my nails over this translation; I'll definitely play it, but I'll get to it when I get to it. Moreso just rubbed wrong at his approach to this. Internet without assholes is like a sammich without bread :x He isn't up-to-speed on this whole internet-user thing, is he? Get over it, pal. Someone's always gonna snipe at you in this kinda stuff. Might be an excuse to take his time, but Jazz said it right; he should've just come clean if that were the case. |
*sigh* this is just going to be an endless cycle: he gets ticked and delay release, more people get ticked at him or delying it, he will keep delaying it.
Face it, we will never get the translation. |

IIRC, it was just a few people arguing with each other. Then he'd come in and be like "Stop arguing and get back to licking my balls about how great I am!" Then they would for a time, but then shortly return to their arguments. It didn't even have anything to do with his game. He's just a pussy. |
I read through that whole fucking thread from the bottom up. Not one person is really all that bad. There's a few guys being internet cool, but no one slags on his project at all.
This dude is a fucking child. |
This kinda reminds me of something I told Ness once. Wouldn't it be both insanely amusing AND annoying is the people who were working on Mother 3 said suddenly "just kidding guys!"?
The thing that throws me is he has like over a hundred people thanking him. Then in the middle one guy who says "Why is this a big deal?", then another fan flaming him, then peace (sorta) being made throughout the post save for another guy who just cuts into Gem a bit, and then one of the aforementioned fan flaming a "newbie". They then go on with normal, interesting discussion (save for the aforementioned guy writing super long responses towards another guy or two), and then an abrupt end to the thread concerning immature(????) behavior. I could understand if it was legions of people...or like say even more than I could hold up on one hand, but so far, I really only counted two or three people who said anything really negative on the project/him. The analogy here is like someone running a marathon, then after twenty-three and ninth/tenth's miles getting cursed out by a few people amongst a roaring crowd, getting pissed off, stopping dead in his/her tracks, and walking off without finishing the race. If you went that far, and had that many people rooting for you, it seems crazy to not see it through. but then again...maybe he just feels like playing a strange game....and then on the 15th saying "gotcha!". It's his project though so he can do what he wants. Still, spending who knows how much time translating and other things related to this game, then suddenly deciding not to release it... If that isn't the case though, my guess is a Halloween release. It fits the bill... |
I don't mind that much, as long as he releases it. I'm not gonna call him a child over it when he's translating a game I wouldn't be able to play otherwise :)
|
Have fun.

The unfortunate thing is now the author will just say "if this is how you are gong to treat me, then you will NEVER get the patch" now.
|
Let him. There's already a translation/walk through if you absolutely need to play through Innocent Sin, it's not a patch, but they don't call it "thankless work" for nothing.

but then again...maybe he just feels like playing a strange game....and then on the 15th saying "gotcha!". Heh, surprised on this one a bit. Anyway, patch is out guys. |
AHHHHHH!!!!!
AHHHH!!!! OH MAN! Well, I certainly wasn't expecting this! Go, everyone! Patch and play, patch and play! With this and Mother 3, we're in very good shape! |
Someone should repost the .iso now that this is actually ready to go.
PS what's this thing he left out? Black Joker? Set Button? Illuminate |
Lol, they did it huh?
This is the one with Hitler in it right? =P |
Yep. Other than this, they also mentioned Absolute Zero releasing the patch for Tales of Phantasia. Definately looking forward to them!.
EDIT : Before anyone delete their original iso, download the other version. Looks like there's a few bugs that attack other people's pc O.o;. Honestly, I didn't notice shit but maybe typos.. tsumi1.0a |
