Mario Rising
|
:twitch:
ABUHHHHHHHH? That's an interesting piece of news. They found a reason to make Dead Rising $50 again. I'll probably own a 360 before that even comes out. |
Unless they do something really, REALLY interesting with the Wii version (being told to waggle QTE when a zombie grabs you is simply not enough), there'll be absolutely no point to get this. A large part of the original's appeal was the superb visuals and scale. I suppose Capcom hopes a Wii version will sell better in Japan.
|
Here's a non-stink version;
Spoiler:
I think Capcom just has a big barrel they spin at the office, with like a thousand tickets in it. Each one has the name of a game they've already made, then they port it to Wii. Doesn't matter if nobody wants it (Resident Evil 0) or it makes no real sense (this), THE BARREL IS EVERYTHING. |
Oh u Capcom, where's my Dead Rising 2!
Dead Rising is one of the best games ever made, but only on the 360 (or PS3). There's no way it'll work on the Wii, unless it does, in which case it... does. But, I can't see it working, is what I'm sayin'. Just... I just hope that this means Dead Rising 2 is being made. :( |

"Up to one enemy on-screen at any given time!" |
I bet the mini-games will be great though. "See how far Mario and friends can throw a zombie by shaking the Wiimote! Stop Mario and friends getting eaten by zombies by shaking the Wiimote! Help Mario and friends headshot the zombies by pointing the Wiimote at them! Use your Miis as zombies and see which of Mario or his friends can kill the most by shaking the Wiimote!".
Also, once the ridiculously small text is scaled up to Wii resolution you won't be able to see anything else on the screen. |
I'm going to start a count on how many times Shin can use the same weak, ignorant joke and still think he's being smart and witty.
I also love how this is the best news I've heard this week and it's not from e3. |
I hope you're good at counting then. I am simply working off the experience of Wii releases in the UK which almost exclusively feature Mario, mini-games and Wiimote wiggling. It's also true that Nintendo are overly fond of taking games from other platforms and dumping Mario into them before releasing them. One day a game might come along for the Wii and prove me wrong but I ain't gonna hold my breath.
|
No! A Wii game that utilises it's features? That cannot be!

Also I'd like you to please explain how this detracts from any of the gameplay already present? |

Well in Twin Snakes, a plushie of Mario and Luigi appear in the game that you can shoot at to make a Mario sound.
Also you can see a gamecube on a desk somewhere in the game. I think a Wii version is a neat idea. I mean, actually feeling like you ARE bashing zombies instead of pressing buttons and free aiming is a nice feature. Theres some obvious downgrade in the graphics side, but not that big of a deal to me. And its obvious this is so the game might do better in Japan on the Wii, and if it does, we may get a 2nd game. I just hope god forbid they fix the text in the Wii and the Maybe-2nd-game. |

As for Nintendo injecting their own IPs into ports - what? NBA Street 3 and whatever that one SSX game was are the only two that come to mind, and they were on the Gamecube. Three years ago. Soul Calibur II doesn't count as an example as the PS2 and Xbox versions of the game did something similar. The Twin Snakes was co-directed by Miyamoto and Kojima, so a Mario cameo was inevitable. (On the flipside, why aren't you ragging on Konami for shunting Snake into Smash Bros?) I don't deny that the vast majority of the Wii's library is trite shovelware garbage, but attaching that line of reasoning to a game like Dead Rising makes no sense. That'd be like me storming into a Fable 2 thread and moaning about how the 360's library is full of post-apocalyptic first-person-shooters with war-weary fuzz-headed supersoldier protagonists. On the contrary to what you appear to believe, this is the kind of thing the Wii needs. An original game would be much nicer than a port, but then again, it's Capcom. |

You shoot Yoshi, he says "Yoshi!" You shoot Mario, a 1-up sound is made and your health recovers a little. I thought it was a bit handy after the battle you had in there. |
Ok, fair enough, I am exaggerating a little but Nintendo's advertising campaigns do them no favours. The only adverts I've seen on tv for Wii games that haven't featured Mario were for Guitar Hero and Boom Blox and the GH ad featured an old man touching up a young boy and the Boom Blox one had a bunch of four year old kids in it. The insertion of Mario into everything was more of a Gamecube thing (Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, Mario Soccer) but most other things you listed were ports and I can't think of anyone I know over the age of 13 who owns a Wii who doesn't also own either a 360 or PS3. Maybe that's just round here and there are people all over the world with only a Wii who have never had the opportunity to play Canis Canem Edit or Dead Rising or Metal Gear and are thankful for downgraded ports that cost twice the amount you pick up the superior version on the original platform for. In my experience though, the Wii is strictly a second console, one that you only use when you've got mates round after the pub and to be fair, it's great for that. I don't see how porting games like this will help any. If you're a serious gamer rather than a mates-round-pissed gamer and want to play Dead Rising, chances are you've got a 360 and could just play it on that. What self respecting "Serious" gamer chose a Wii when the three current gen options presented themselves anyway? None of them, or at any rate none of them with a wage or salary rather than pocket money to spend on it.

Sony and Microsoft have fans like this too. Why do you think there is so much Rage whenever a system loses an exclusive? Fanboys see it as a blow to their console god. |
Replying to another Shin trainwreck because someone has to.

I can't vouch for Dead Rising, but if it follows every "Wii-make" I have played then it's going to be from the inferior version of the game. Every Wii-make I have played has been a pretty vast improvement over its other-console counterpart. This includes: The Godfather: Blackhand Edition, Bully, Okami, RE4 and Scarface. You're talking out your ass from what I can see. Play the games then form a judgement. Quote:

While I prefer the original MGS, you can't exactly call Twin Snakes a downport in any kind of way. It's a great piece of work, plus the Kitamura cutscenes are hilarious.

Wow, I guess... I guess I wasn't clear enough for you? Let me explain myself a little.

Anyway, the 360 and the PS3 are practically the same system to me. Therefore, there's no reason I can think of a straight port wouldn't work. The Wii on the other hand is a significantly different system. Not just because of the system specs which are in a completely different field, but even moreso because of the controller. I thought that was all pretty obvious, but I guess I was counting on some understanding on the part of the reader. Just like a port of, say, Zack & Wiki would (in principle) be silly on the 360, the same goes for this. This is how I see it. Quote:
I have several reasons to think it won't work out. I don't think the Wii can handle having a shitbunch of zombies at once, which is one of the main appeals of the game. Hell, the 360 couldn't handle it half the time. I also don't think that Wiimote-based controls will be effective for this game. But I would love to be proven wrong on this. After all, I own a Wii and would love to buy Dead Rising (which is possibly my favorite game of this generation) for it. But not if it's a shadow of its former self, you know? Which I fear it could be. There, happy? :erm: |

The Wiimote works great for games that are based around it... well sometimes. But any ports of regular games should always allow a regular controller. One has to wonder if this is kind of a foreshadowing. If they can port one 360 game to the Wii, perhaps they'll port Resident Evil 5 over later down the road? |
Now see, surasshu, that was legit. Put a little thought into it and it comes out just fine.
The biggest shock to me on this announcement is simply the content. It is nice to see that Capcom is really performing well for all major platforms in this "year of the zombie." See: Left 4 Dead |
Well yeah, you could always use the classic controller or plug in a Gamecube controller or whatever, but... I don't see the point in the port in the first place in that case. With Resident Evil 4, I could really get into the idea of using the Wiimote. I haven't actually played it so I don't know how this works out, but I considered RE4 to be basically House of the Dead sans rails. So using an aiming device makes sense to me. RE5 would make sense to me as well, if it has the same gameplay (probably does).
Dead Rising though? I don't know. Maybe I'm being too skeptical since there's no footage or anything, but to me it makes no sense to do this. Then again, as long as the game is ported properly, at least it will mean people who own the Wii and no 360 can play it. That's always a good thing, since it's a brilliant game. MOAR ZOMBIES etc. |
Capcom did fine with Okami.
RE4 worked out very well with the Wiimote. I see no reason for this to be an exception. |

Game is called Dead Rising: Zombie Sacrifice. Mission structure is different and more linear. Photo mode removed because it didn't click with the new over-the-shoulder camera setup.
Some new content makes up for the WII GRAFX - new enemies and weapons confirmed so far. sauce |
They took out all the things that made the game unique. :( I know people complained about it, but I actually loved the timer and the hardcore death stuff, it made the game much more intense than most games where you can just die over and over and it doesn't matter, or just fuck about without caring about time or anything. Dead Rising's system brought a sense of urgency with it that was unrivaled in any game I'd ever played before.
As for the photo taking thing, it wasn't the most important element of the game but it was really fun. Taking that out doesn't really make sense to me--why not just go into first person mode temporarily like in the 360 game? I don't really care about the graphics. The 360 game wasn't exactly gorgeous either, and it'll look much better in motion. It's more about whether the Wii can handle the masses of zombies on-screen, which you can't tell from screenshots. Anyway I hope that if they do make a Dead Rising 2 on 360, they won't leave out the timer and death stuff, cause that really made the game a lot better for me. |

SUDDENLY, ZOMBIES! ... Really though, I think Capcom is just being cheap & lazy at this point in the Graphics department, because that's not even good Gamecube quality |
Americanananada release confirmed for uh, later this year sometime. Has more words in the title, and they're red!!

New weapons:
Serrated katana Serrated axe Serrated baseball bat Serrated shotgun |
So I just found some videos of this game in action. I was actually expecting something more than this:
|
|||||
Other than being able to kill that little bitch dog (excuse my pun) from the beginning, it looks like ass. I may get it from Gamefly for a few days, after I've played everything else first, but there's no way in hell I'm buying this.
|
I liked the other version of Resident Evil 4 better.
|
Oh wow, look at the way he grabs that umbrella and plows through... seven zombies?
Not impressed at all, as much as I would enjoy the Wii control scheme, the complete lack of giant hordes of zombies makes this game look like a wimpier version of RE4. I mean, giant horders of zombies was the entire POINT of Dead Rising. Man, looks like the majority of the Japanese are only gonna play this gimped version. Then again, maybe that's what they like? |
Unfortunately it looks as if the move to the Wii has really taken a tool on the game. I doubt anyone expected it to match the 360 version for graphics or numbers of zombies, but part of the fun of the game is how you make your way from place to place, cutting a path through the zombies. In that video it looks like you'll have almost unrestricted movement, it's just how you decide to make a path via the zombies.
|
From what I saw in the video you could just walk between the 4 or 5 zombies on screen >.>
|
Let's not forget that the Psyckopaths apperently is zombies now. Why can't you kill people in Nintendo games?
(This makes me fear for the GTA game for DS:( ) |

Preview up at IGN.
I wasn't too enthusiastic about the trailer Kilroy posted, but this preview has piqued my interest once more. I am definitely going to wait until the game is complete before completely writing it off. |
