Nintendo E3 Conference NOBODY GOES
So Nintendo has a big ol conference tomorrow. Something about CASUALS and guitars and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and noone was all that impressed.
Let's talk about it! |
I heard they're releasing some games for the Wii involving several minigames, a "wacky" and not at all forced control system and the full range of your favourite Mario characters. Rumours are they're also insisting that sub-PS2 graphics are still acceptable to modern gamers and that they can indeed stay solvent by flogging the same old dead horse for the next few years.
|
Woah! What future boat did you just step off of, Shin?! =O
|
I heard they're releasing Terranigma with motion control.
no I didn't. :( |
I sorta wish RABicle was here.
I found his version of E3 (something about Reggie smashing things on stage and roundhouse Sony executives in the groin) and the real one (powerpoint presentations with lots of extra and totally useless plastic add-ons for the Wiimote to be clashing in the most magnificent way. My hopes? A new Zelda, built for Wii without waggling, a new Mario sidescroller for either DS or Wii and almost no focus on soccer moms, grannies and kids. Only hardcore games this time around, please. |

Quote:
I mean trolling aside, are there any Wii games that don't feature one of either Mario, stupid minigames or shoe-horned in motion control? |
Blastworks? There's plenty, but that's the first one to come to mind.
|

|
Stop Sign, you bring hope to this nation. :')
Shin, I bought a second Wii for my parents and Wii Fit. :) Counting! One! Two! Two Nintendo Dust Collectors! Ah! Ah! Ah! |
Quote:
|
What motion control there is certainly isn't in it just for the fact of being in it. The editor works well with the controls, they're well thought out, and they certainly weren't just "shoe-horned" in there just because they could tack it on with minimal effort.
If you're going to exclude all games with any motion control period under that forced implementation heading, you might as well start excluding games on other systems that use specific buttons on the controller that you might not like. SHIT THIS GAME USES THE D PAD FOR SOMETHING FUCK. (I'm trying to reduce trollan here, why you gotta be this way?) |
If there isn't a new Pilotwings game then Nintendo will have wasted a car trip. People will demand a new Pilotwings at the start of the conference.
"Hello everyon-" "NEW PILOTWINGS?" "No here are some sales charts" Everyone laughs. Everyone instantly leaves. |
Reggie will ask the press to "please call him Reginald" from now on, and then will proceed to announce Man Icarus, which is being outsorced to the Ubisoft team that made Prince of Persia: Warrior Within.
A new Zelda will debut, built from the ground up for the Wii. It will be a cell shaded sequel to Wand of Gamelon. The Fairchild Channel F will be supported in the Virtual Console catalog. Propietary 5ΒΌ" floppy drives will be released to solve the Wii's storage problems. Only nerds and otakus will care, the rest WILL LAUGH. |

And it'll happen soon. Like world peace. Later guys, I have to take a swim in the gumdrop coloured paradise that is my lawn. Pet a unicorn, frolick with a pegasus and be one with nature. |
See you guys in 8 hours :P. I'm betting on a new Zelda with 1:1 controls, Wii Music, and at least 5 third-party games highlighted that no one cares about.
|
<_< ... >_> ... Not sure if this has been posted....
While we're all dreaming and/or despairing about what's gonna take place at E3, a little notice came up concerning the Wiimote. Well, Microsoft hasn't announced a motion controller yet, but possibly as a counter-act, Wiimote 1:1 movement is now possible!!! Linkity Doodle: Introducing Wii MotionPlus, Nintendo's upcoming accessory for the revolutionary Wii Remote at Nintendo :: What's New See you all at the show. |
there needs to be a complete system update.
|
Yeah, I saw it earlier. Sure, it should have been in the controller to begin with and I hope it costs 10 bucks or is 30 bucks with a good game packed in but at least now I'll be able to brush my teeth with 1:1 movement with my Wii controller.
I also like that it comes with a longer Wii condom to accommodate it. :) |
Damn! Cammie Dunaway is one creepy lady.
Carrot Top Snowboarding coming to the Wii. You read it here fist! |
Awesome. So they announced nothing? That's the impression I'm getting from all the nerd rage. I was out at the store and arrived in time to see Lmao Wii Music, did I miss anything that wasn't terrible?
|
Not a very exciting press conference this time. I have to reserve full judgment until I can play Wii Music for myself, but I doubt that it's the killer app Nintendo's obviously hoping it to be.
GTA DS sounds interesting, though. And I will be picking up Animal Crossing Wii. |
Ahahahaha that was the worst conference ever. Not even Sony's 2006 shitfest was this bad. I'm going to sue Nintendo for boring me to death.
|
Quote:
Bleh, it looks like my wishes were to unrealistic. No Mario or Zelda. I'm surprised about GTA, though. Can I finally beat up hookers and steal their cash on Nintendo? Spoiler:
|
Animal Crossing is cool and all but laughing my ass off here at Wii Music and how pathetic everyone looked on stage. New PR bitch Cammy or whatever her name is was fucking annoying. I AM A WOMAN AND CASUAL LOOK AT ALL THESE GAMES FOR ME OH HO I HAVE A WRIST INJURY AND I SUCK AT SNOWBOARDING. I think this also confirms that we'll never have a proper Wave Race or Pilot Wings this generation either because those can only be minigames. Seriously, just wait for hang gliding to be in Wii Sports Resort. You'll never see a gyro copter or jet pack again, guys. Wii motion plus isn't even going to be out until Spring. What? I swear to god there better be some good surprise shit between Fall and next Summer. I don't even care what platform anymore because this E3 so far has been one beautiful let down.
|
Well, this thread's title pretty much sums the feeling of the conference today: NOTHING. After going on about "not neglecting the core gamer", they go ahead and show nothing. Way to go, Nintendo.
The DS front though: GTA: Chinatown Wars? Hmm... Here's hoping everything else gets revealed tomororw. There's gotta be more than that, right? (Also, off to the Sony conference!) |
The nerd rage is the only good coming from that conference.
http://g.photos.cx/1216142359105-4e.jpg THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU FUCK STRANGERS IN THE ASS NINTENDO |
THAT WAS STUPID.
|
OMG SO MANY COOL GAMES AND FEATURES AT THIS CONFERENCE!
|
The only thing that was interesting was explaining the WiiMotion Plus and Animal Crossing city and using WiiSpeak. I just hope there's a mute button for it or else I won't use it. My brothers would just yell out random shits when they have a chance to. :(
WiiMusic looks fun even if it means anybody playing it will look retarded. :tpg: And so the conference is so-so... like always. :/ I hope Nintendo surprise us with other (new) games on their show floor (ie like they did with SSBB a couple of years ago). Also no solution to storage space. I would assume they would reveiled it along with the WiiMotion Plus. I hope I'm wrong tomorrow. */wishful thinking* |
I missed the conference and it looks like I missed nothing at all.
|
Why is everyone so pissed about this year's E3 being a dud? We knew it was getting dumbed down this year and FF XIII on the 360, GTA DS, and Animal Crossing Wii are already more than I expected to see from it.
Was GTA: Chinatown Wars shown at all or just mentioned? It'll be interesting to see how the graphics turn out on the DS. |
Oh well, one good thing's come from this. Rhythm Tengoku DS is getting a US release as Rhythm Heaven.
Other junk here. |

Oh, I'm not upset about the conference. I knew it wasn't as excited as before when E3 was huge a few years ago. People should be glad that they are STILL doing E3. |
Quote:

Man Icarus will still be on he show floor, guys. Don't panic.
The best part was when Cammie Dunaway confirmed Home will be coming to the Wii in her chemically-induced enthusiasm. |

Davi Drum or what did they call him. I won't pass judgement, but I sure hope that people'll look a bit... smarter while playing the drums.
|
Quote:
My steam was lagging when that was going on. I was like WTF is this. Why make a music game when rockband / guitar heroes already dominates the market. |
Because Miyamoto REALLY likes a good game of pretend.
|
Because not every Wii user is interested in spending 100-200+ dls on a game where 80% of the music are tracks you don't even like.
Plus the air band market has been untapped so far. |

|
Still no good launch titles for the Wii? :(
Wii is becoming GC 2.0 which was N64 2.0 which unfortunately most definitely was not SNES 2.0... I can't even be bothered to check to see if there was any Rygar update at E3 because that title has been announced for nearly a year now with no progress. |
So . . . Reggie . . .
Where's my Mother 3? |

wvlfpvp, I'm afraid we can only rely on each other when it comes to those things.
|
See, whereas you get mad, Acer, I just get frownyface'd. Plus I have enough NEW games to play without playing such awesomeness again. Even if it is on my TV and I can pretend that Terranigma actually got released in America.
|
You know what? They should have just announced some sort of 3rd-party episodic content based game with a planned 23 episodes over a 3-year period. The first episode would get released in Madagascar and only work on TVs with DC (not AC) to ensure region incompatibility. Then, a new screenshot would be leaked every 2 years. When the next Wii was announced, they could have announced that the remaining 22 episodes would be rolled into one big launch title (that would never get released). At least that would have entertained me for 1.5 seconds.
|
Quote:
This will entertain you for 1.5 YEARS. |
Is it seizure-avatar week?

To stay somewhat on track do you think that Nintendo will change course at all, or will the Wii just keep churning out games like "Ninja Reflex" and variations on "Chicken Shoot?" I see a game like RE4 on the Wii and I wonder why there isn't a tad bit more variation. Too bad the Alone in the Dark game bites so bad. I would think an adventure game on Wii (see: Zak & Wiki) would be right up the Wii-mote's alley... |

Nintendo really have lost me.
If it wasn't my ersatz-Gamecube, my Wii would find its way to eBay pretty quickly... |
GTA DS will clearly suck massive donkey balls. What's the point of a GTA game with no blood, no swearing and no racial stereotypes? The main character will probably be fucking Mario and you have to drive around jumping on turtles or some equally banal crap like that, all the while using the stylus to draw pictures of which one you want to shoot at next and learning how to add up and cook better.
Pretty much everyone who's going to get one has a Wii now and nobody ever buys more than two games for the thing so unless they release some new hardware or start producing games that aren't Mario themed minigame-fests, Nintendo are fucked. The Wii needs a new Goldeneye and Killer Instinct to prove to people that it's more than just a joke console for drunk people and kids. The company won't go tits up like Sega did because kids always need more DS games but the Wii is all but finished already. Every game store near me has like a one stand Wii display compared to at least 4 or 5 for every other console, including PS2. It's a remarkable achievement for a company that kicked so much ass with the SNES to fail so miserably ever since. |

I am sure whatever console you own (Xbox or PS3, it doesn't matter) obviously satisfies you insatiable thirst for hundreds upon hundreds of mediocre racing games, sports games and shooting games, but here's the news flash: NOT ALL GAMERS ARE LIKE YOU SHIN. Quote:

Fair enough, you like shaking your wiimote, nobody can deny you that and at the right time, with the right people around, so do I but I only need one game to do that. Quote:
Now if you take a deep breath, stop getting so butt-hurt that someone suggested that your precious Nintendo's current business model has holes in big enough to drive through and calm down and read what I said as a rational criticism rather than a personal attack you'll see that I'm making sense. Why do you take criticism of Nintendo so personally anyway? Do you work for them or something? Am I dissing your life's work, are the harsh realities of my vision of the future going to leave you homeless and destititute? What is it? I think it might be time for your naptime, you seem to be getting rather over-excited. |
I will agree that the Nintendo conference was lacking this year, but honestly, has anyone watched the Microsoft and Sony conferences. Not much better. Sure, Microsoft had a bunch of games to show, but X360's been around a full year longer than the PS3 and Wii. Here we find ourselves at the dead period. Now is when consoles just release stuff and putter around until it's time for another big hardware development. The last two E3s we saw exciting new hardware at it's best, and (some) launch titles to get excited about (well, except for Sony i guess).
Now that all the excitement has died down, Wii, like PS3, is still trying to find it's footing that it has to stand on for the next few years. Wii Motion Plus is definitely a step in the right direction in terms of refining the technology to better achieve the objective it set out to accomplish. I remain optimistic for Wii and the potential therein. I'm not sure about you guys, but summer has always video game void, or at least i've thought so. As to why E3 was moved to July is beyond me, and i sort of expected something like this. There's time, and other conventions to look forward to. I can't justify sealing Wii's coffin yet. |
I'm a big fan of Nintendo, but I have to agree, their presentation this year was definitely lacking. There are plenty of games that could have been focused on, but it seems like they really only presented 3 things. Wii Sports Resort, Wii Music, and an assload of sales charts. Everything else seemed like a passing mention. Animal Crossing Wii is good, but everything else just seemed lackluster.
I don't like to admit it, but it seems like the Wii's target audience has shifted a bit too far away from traditional gamers. I'm all for bringing new people to gaming, but it really just feels like traditional games are becoming more rare. I remain hopeful for Nintendo to release more traditional game announcements at TGS. Shin, just because most people own the games you mentioned doesn't mean that they're the only games on the system/the only good/bad games either. There's decent stuff. Hell, I play my Wii regularly.

Rhythm Tengoku DS is getting a US release as Rhythm Heaven. I mean, it was only the best game ever made on the GBA. News like that shouldn't get shoveled away like it's some kind of dirty secret. The only way they could possibly blow it is if they took out the music by Tsunku(who is ♂) and localized the game with music by Timbaland and Lil Jon. Here's a video and a website designer who doesn't know how to do the ♂! |
I'm also a big fan of Nintendo. But just like Omnislash said (and all the thread too), the conference this year was wrong, very very wrong.
I suppose we won't have Wave Race for Wii (not that it's the best game ever, but I like it) because it is now part of Wii Sports Resort :( Were is the next big hit? T_T BTW, now I hope deveolpers are able to use the Motion Plus thing, to have better games, real cool awesome games. Wii Music, do we really need that weird Mario Theme remix? And stock music -.- |
Quote:
I am aware that other games exist but Nintendo's publicity machine seems obsessed with pushing the novelty ones and this E3 conference did nothing to dispel that idea. |
Quote:
Waverace would be cool, a new zelda or mario, some good RPGs. I think RPGs could be awesome with the motion controls. None of this air drumming, frisbee throwing shit. |

Also, I didn't realise you lived in Australia. I wouldn't have used shop displays as an example if I'd known you lived in a third world country. |
Nintendo's changed a fair bit from their NES days of censoring everything, it'd be up to Rockstar if they wanted to include blood/swearing/nudity/drugs/pancakes whatever or not. DS already has the likes of Resident Evil, Mortal Wombat, Dead 'N' Furious, Dementium blah blah blah.
Although as much as I love GTA, I just can't get excited about the idea of playing it on the DS. It was bad enough on the PSP. It's one of those games that doesn't really suit the portable world. :( Unless they turn it into a Tetris game or something where you drop dick blocks into cunt blocks to try and score maximum points, then some old guy yells about lawn bowls on the touch screen non-stop while all these cannons shoot out clowns on the top screen and the cartridge heats the DS up so much that battery acid leaks all over your hands. That'd be awesome. |

Nintendo has created games (or some on the way) on the Wii for almost all of it's major series, Mario, Zelda, Smash Bros., Metroid, Fire Emblem, Nintendo's Wars Series, Kirby, Animal Crossing, Wario and the numerous spin-off titles like Paper Mario, Mario Kart and the Mario Sports & Party titles. There's not too many more series that I can think of that need representation, maybe F-Zero and Star Fox. It's just now they're offering more. Quote:

I never understood why that didn't make it over to US. A fantastic DS music game with a nearly-complete composition tool, how could that not be a success over here?
Well, the first one anyway! I haven't tried DX, but it looks like a smiley, so I like it already. |

I have absolutely no grasp of economics. I don't now how Nintendo or anyone else's finances are.
But I think that the split focus is a mistake from Nintendo's side. I know that Nintendo has sold an obscene amount of hardware, and that Nintendogs is one of their most popular titles (I know this, because Nintendo keeps saying it. "Hey, remember this game we made two years ago? Wasn't it COOL!?") However, I keep thinking to myself: How many women ages 30+ buy more than, say, two games a year. Or those girls which fell in love with Nintendogs? As I see it, we have a large user base, but only, perhaps, 50% buys more games. So developers can't actually say how many games they'll sell, and thus might use less on them. I'll repeat this before anyone rips me a new one: I don't know anything about economics and such, so I might be talking crap. If that's the case, please educate me in a civil manner. |
