E3 Anticipation Thread
E3 is coming up in a few weeks, what are your expectations? Are you anxiously awaiting a big PS3 reveal? Perhaps cherishing the thought of seeing some Revolution in action? MGS4? Are you waiting for Microsoft to announce Halo 3? Or perhaps you simply don't care?
Discuss. |
Just MGS4. The diamond in the rough from last year, IMHO, was Shadow of the Colossus. I'd heard NOTHING of the game prior to that. I saw it on E3 then camped it out until release.
Any other games of that calibre coming out or being previewed? (unlikely~) |
Not entirely sure, but I do think that Shadow of the Colossus was announced sometime prior to E3. I'm pretty sure that I had seen the first teaser for it before then, but I may be wrong of course.
- WraithTwo - |
I think he meant that in the surprise way: it could have been announced, but its E3 performance perhaps blew away expectations.
|
DO you think they'll announce Skyhammer 2!??!?!?!
|
It sucks! I went last year and it was pretty bad, a good experience but from a NEWS stand-point, pretty bad. I was wished I went this year instead.
|
I'm hyped for Nintendo's E3 press conference.
They're announcing that they're leaving the industry. |

E3's going to be awesome this year. Lots of titles and possibly a 28 second Twilight Princess trailer.
There isn't even going to be showgirls. Just nerds and games. It'll be like.. like.. Spoiler:
|

But last year, AGETEC scared the shit out of many people as well as me with their 'ANTI-BOOTH BABES'. I caught a glimpse of one of them when I was about to enter the Convention Center. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...Anti-Booth.jpg Scary stuff. |

I'm actually really curious to see what two games Squenix has been talking about recently. I hope one of them is a Chrono series game. |
Dragon Quest 9 and Final Fantasy 13. Why get you're hopes up?
|

Quote:
If they do a Chrono game, it'll be a bunch of new fagcast characters. That's what everybody doesn't want. Square are known for creating their not-so-Final Fantasy titles where every game is different, aside from a few Moogles and Chocobos. And of course this means a Chrono sequel will suck, without the original crew. And it'll be in 3D. They wouldn't even go through with the 3D remake concept a bunch of fans had going on. I doubt absolutely anything will be recreated involving material from Trigger. The only realistic Chrono title I could see happening would be set in the Kingdom of Zeal, 1200's as a prequel. |
Is Front Mission: Scars of War even *IN* E3? I'm fucking pissed off at how long Squenix is pushing it off.
|
Quote:
Also - I enjoyed Chrono Cross. It was fun. |
Stuff I personally want to see more of in this year's E3 is Maxis' Spore, and Game Freak's Pokémon Diamond/Pearl. We've barely been given much info on Di/Pl. Unfortunately, lots of the new monsters they've shown so far are crappy looking. What's with all the stupid pre-evos? I hope they show better ones soon.
As for Spore, I want to see what other critters you can make. If I had my way, I'd make an army of evil land sharks with huge teeth. Oh heck, might as well give them wings too! Dragon Fly wings would be awesome on my land sharks. Speaking of which, I'd also like to make a race of intelligent anthro ferrets. Yes, ferrets. Normal looking ferrets. |
Seiken Densetsu 5, Anything related to Nintendo and the Revolution.
|
Expecting-
- MGS4 goodness - Everything on Revolution - New PSP design - Final PS3 controller - Final PS3 price - More on Zelda DS and TP Hoping for- - Dragon Quest 9 - Final Fantasy XIII - Chrono Break - Guitar Hero 2 through 7 What will make this E3 good for me is all the Revolution news I've been waiting for since the last E3. I can't believe it's already been a year since then. |
PS3 Controller?
http://img71.imageshack.us/img71/3633/battroller4yl.jpg Just waiting on Rev. hardware info I guess. I want an image with a timer to the Nintendo Press Release countdown..but I dont know how to make it. :( |

Being on-site and behind a computer, a zillion miles away are two different things. You got to sit your fat-ass all day long waiting to be fed with the latest news while I had to walk around and find it. Plus, the 360 was about to be released a couple of months after E3, so it was anyone's guess that MS would be ready with some really cool shit like hands-on demonstrations. They only had a 15 seconds NFS 360 demo and a stage from CONDEMNED playable, that's it. I even went to MS's booth to know why they didn't have anything playable and the Media Representative threw me some BS like 'We don't want to over-shadow our current line-up' which meant that they weren't ready and all there 'Demos', being played by various people from there respective company, were running on two Apple G5s. Plus, there wasn't any GROUND-BREAKING news or show-stoppers. Not for me though. So all this is a personnal opinion. |
E3 is a press event. Stop bitching.
Also, I'm not fat. |

Nintendo said they would reveal their Revolution.. atleast a form that is close to the release model. I also hope Sony gets rid of their goddamn boomerang controller.
|
Sony announced that it is going under a redesign, so, no need to worry.
|
Quote:
But, seriously, with a Blu-Ray Player inside that thing, it's gotta be 600-700$CAN. Which is a little fortune. And isn't worth it. |
I was actually willing to give the boomerang a chance. Similar controllers were supposedly very comfortable. I think that the PS3 will be announced as being the same price as the 360.
|
Now I can sleep at night.
|
Just waiting for some Revolution and PS3 news. I want to see some actual games on show.
Oh well though, have to wait and see what happens. It'll be an interesting few days though. |
its all about rev news this year for me and if S-E somehow pulls chrono break out their ass i want to see that also

BATTROLLER! Watch Nintendo not so much focus on "Alright guys, this is the Revolution and here are the specs" as the reasoning for going the way they did. I hope they really press this and sell it well there. MS: Needs awesome game releases to get any attention. Sony: It'll be interesting. I'll expect some surprises along with N. |
Most of all I'm hoping for the unveiling of an original Mario game for the Revolution!
A Mario game that will totally turn the gaming world upside down....just like Mario 64 once did! Other then, this my looking-forward-to-list: --Nintendo Revolution & the unveiling of Revolution games --Metal Gear Solid 4 --Playstation 3 news And I'm hoping for: --a new Banjo Kazooie/Conker game for the XBOX360 --Final Fantasy XIII --a new Paper Mario game --a worthy Starfox game on the Revolution or Nintendo DS --a new game by the ICO/Collosus team --Silent Hill 5 --a new Mario Kart game |
If the PS3 is any less than $500 I'll be completely shocked. I'm expecting $549 for JUST the system, $69 per game, and then of course the $5499 value pack with EVERY GAME AND ACCESSORY LOL.
Sony for the lose. |
My hopes for E3 '06:
- Killer Instinct 3 for XBOX 360 - More details on Resident Evil 5 - Killer Instinct 1 or 2 (or both) for Xbox Live Arcade - Halo Movie details - Halo 3 details - Alan Wake details with a definitive relase date - Max Payne 3 announcement with REMEDY developping it If half of that is a reality, then I'll be happy! :edgartpg: |
Killer Instinct 3, with Rare being under the influence of Microsoft, will probably turn out horrible.
People somehow managed to pull off 48 hit combos on the original Killer Instinct with an SNES controller, which made absolutely no sense. The N64 controller was far better, as it had 6 buttons, much like a Saturn controller. If you're going to be using a 360 controller for any Killer Instinct title, well I just don't know how on earth that would work. It's never happening though so don't worry. |
I personally wouldn't mind seeing another KI title hit the market... I thought the originals were pretty decent. But as Elixer said, with Rare being under MS's thumb, it'll probably be a dumbed down Dead or Alive 4, which is already retarded as it is.
|
I guess I'm just waiting for news on the PS3 and the revolution. More details about Twilight Princess, Halo 3 and news on whether or not Xenosaga I&II DS is coming stateside would be nice too.
|
I'm actually really curious to see what the PS3 controller re-design looks like. I was one of the 2 people that didn't mind the boomerang. I wonder if they're just going to go back to the old Dual Shock design?
|
Quote:
BTW, according to the GDC specs, 7.1 channel audio is done through the GPU (RSX) and all the Blu-Ray functions are controlled via software instead of the hardware solutions that'll be found in actual players. Of course, doing these things via software often degrades quality, but this is the "Poor Man's Blu-Ray". I don't expect prices at E3, that'll probably show up around TGS even though the announcement may not have as big an impact then. |
one word: Revolution
thats it for me. |
Another thing... Where the hell has FFVII: Crisis Core been? They HAVE to show that at E3 at this point.
|
Quote:
I would like to see an update on Crisis but am also anticipating the usual, namely all PS3 info, all Revolution info, a MGS4 trailer, and some formal announcement of Halo 3's existence. I am also hoping for some word on Zone of the Enders, either for next gen or for handhelds. I know this is a long shot because Kojima productions is busy toiling away on MGS4, but I loved both ZOE games and would really love to see a new one. |

My wishlist.
- the promise of another Chrono game (and while they're at it, they can replace some old growth forests.) - details on Final Fantasy XII - details on Revolution - information that will finally sway my opinion on PS3 - details on Resident Evil 5 - a promise that Resident Evil 5 will be on Revolution - good looks at Metroid Prime for Revolution - Disciples II: Dark Prophecy for the DS (it was announced, so why hasn't it happened yet?) - more stuff for DS that i will be attracted to - Metronome for PS3 (probably the only game for PS3 that has even touched my interest so far other than continuations of the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts serises) - New RPGs that will interest me - and while we're at it, throw a third Zelda game from Nintendo out there (or go for four and totally blow my mind) Yeah, i'm a wishful thinker, but i can always dream. If half of this stuff prooves true, then i'll be a very happy man. Biggest on my list is probably stuff on Revolution. I'm just waiting to get my teeth on one of those. |

Actually Level 5 designed it. Square-Enix just released it.
It's like Nippon Ichi. They don't actually make the game, however they release it. Then it's distributed by Atlus and Koei. |
Most of what I wanted to see have been posted but I'll post a bit more:
1) Playstation 3 FINAL controller design 2) Playstation 3 launch games and games to follow 3) *HOPEFULLY* Ghost Recond Advanced Warfare for PS3 4) Suggested retail price for PS3 5) More MGS4 trailers and perhaps some still screenshots for me to drool over 6) Grand Theft Auto: whatever for the PS3 7) A few more details for the FFXII confirmed release date for North America, and if there are any special limited editions. 8) Finally some concrete footage/trailers of what the Nintendo Revolution has to offer |
Quote:
|
I forgot to mention - Xenosaga III - Also Sprach Zarathrustra. They need to pull the wraps of that game, its been so long dammit. They haven't released real info since last years E3 dammit.
|
Ahh. Just remembered. I hafta keep an eye out for Front Mission: Scars of War AND Rogue Galaxy. Highlights of the gaming year for me =o News on Resident Evil 5 wouldn't be half bad~ As long as it plays like #4. Fantastic game <3
|
I almost forgot about Rogue Galaxy. That game sounds great (literally, I like the OST). I want details on a NA release.
Front Mission: Scars of War? Is that the MMORPG? |
Quote:
What I was trying to say, was that a proper Square-Enix title, Final Fantasy or Chrono game probably wouldn't ever be made cel-shaded. It isn't hard to understand. |

I predict that FFXIII wont be announced but Everything FFXII will be, probably down to price and/or bonus features.

35 days until E3 2006
826:25:49 I think. New DS Opera information would be nice. |
I'm actually waiting for Nintendo to make their move. Sony might grab everyone's attention like last year, but hell, I'm more interested in Nintendo and Microsoft.
The Revolution is just..making me excited, I can't wait. I missed out on a great childhood. It's a shame I've never played any NES/SNES games, and most N64 games. So, what better way to relive it than play some old school Nintendo games? Nintendo also has more upcoming news about the DS, which deals with the Play-Yan, and the Opera broswer. |
Only thing I realy care about is MGS4's new trailer showing off several in-game cutscenes and some actual gameplay footage, as well as showing us what the story is going to be about this time. I'm hoping there will be more PS3 games shown off so that I have something to buy the system for other than Metal Gear.
Oh, and I hope that there's a longer God of War 2 trailer. |
I'm over all hoping that stuff will start happening for Nintendo. I really want to see lots of new games for Revolution, stuff like Castlevania, maybe some RTS games, RPGs (it's time a nintendo got some RPGs again), maybe a Vigilante 8 game, Resident Evil. Basically i want to see more third party stuff for Nintendo.
|
Well, developers and publishers alike found the controller to be interesting. Let's hope they help Nintendo pull through, :/
|
Okay, I think there is enough Revolution discussion in here. To give more general E3 discussion a bit more of a presence in here please keep Revolution discussion to the newly made Pre-Pre-E3 Revolution thread.
______________________________________________ As for E3, I'm of course looking forward to Revolution along with any new stuff for DS and if no news of DSlite comes before E3 that as well. Nintendo is going to try as big a presence as possible there I bet. I'm also really looking forward to PS3 and seeing actual games in motion on the system and any news of the machine itself and all the specifics. Basically any cool games etc. I'm hoping for a price drop for the PSP and hopefully a lot of new games that'll pique my interest. From Microsoft I'm looking forward to the next wave of games that finally have gotten enough time to take advantage of the console that I think the first wave suffered from. Who knows, maybe if there's some really nifty games I'll just plunk down some money for software and play them at Mo0's house. ='D What I'd really love to see though is Lucasarts actually making some original non-Star Wars games and embracing the classic adventure genre once more. Fat chance but one can always dream. Oh yeah and I want to see more of Spore. That game looks hawt! |
I am looking forward to the Revolution. The games, the controller and the possibilities. Also looking forward to new DS announcements and games. This E3 is probably about 75% Nintendo for me.
And to a lesser extent the PS3, probably about 10%. There is no way I am going to be able to afford one when it launches, but there still are a couple of exclusive series I want to play and am interested in. The last percentages are 10% Spore, and about 5% Microsoft. I don't think there could be much that would wow me from Microsoft, probably only Halo 3. That's about it, but I could be wrong. |
What about the handheld that Microsoft announced? The supposidly "IPOD, PSP, and DS" killer? I thought that was interesting..
|
I just want to see US announcements for a few good PS2 titles so I can sleep better at night.
1. Tales of the Abyss - I swear Namco, I don't care if you publish it or if someone else like XSEED publishes it. This game has to be released in English. It just HAS to. A lot of people say this is the best Tales game created in quite awhile, and leaving it in Asia would be a HUGE mistake. I'd actually prefer someone else other than Namco publish it though since Namco tends to make a lot of localization budget cuts for no reason. (Like half the voice acting missing from Tales fo Legendia) 2. Rogue Galaxy - The game gets announced for Europe but not for US. That makes no sense considering Level 5 games tend to sell well here in the states. I figure SCEA is waiting for E3 to make the US announcement so they can hype the game up in stuff. Or at least they better be. >=( 3. Ar-Toneliko - I know Nippon Ichi has its hands full at the moment with a ton of releases, but I do hope they make some sort of official announcement about releasing this awesome 2D game. I don't care if we don't get it till the end of the year, I just wanna play it in English. Besides that, I'm looking forward to more information about other big titles such as Zelda and Phantasy Star Universe. |

Whatever, it might actually be a good idea since the PSP definitely isn't catching up to the DS now. If Microsoft release a handheld then maybe the PSP will have some fair competition. |
Probably because PSP was supposed to be the iPod killer with it's movie playback and big screen... Too many companies want to cram as much shit into as little space as possible and fail to realize that it simply doesn't work.
I think MS is shooting for the same thing with this "Origami" thing... I think they gave it an unveiling a few months back. It's basically a handheld PC, which is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. Maybe we'll see their own foray into the handheld market, but meh, it would be retarded. |
Guys, Origami is hardly a portable gaming machine. The thing is huge, much more expensive than the PSP, and wasn't made in mind to be a gaming machine. Think of it more like a tablet PC.
If Microsoft is truly thinking of a handheld device and I'm pretty sure they aren't then it isn't the Origami. Microsoft seems fairly content just having Rare support GBA and any way to take sales away from Sony since they are their main rival. I think Microsoft would much rather have Nintendo succeeding in the handheld business to an extent that it hurt Sony's profits. |
My wishlist:
\\NINTENDO// - Zelda TP: More videos, screens and release dates - Revolution: Final design, final name, videos of actual games, third party games - Metroid Prime 3 - DS: Web Browser, TV Tuner, DS Lite release dates (outside of Japan), future games - GBA New (wishful thinking) \\SONY// - PSP: New games - PS3: Actual videos, redesigned controls, games - FFXII: Near completed form - Okami: More videos, screens and release dates \\MICROSOFT// - ... (Okay, I'll try to not be biased here... Microsoft ain't really my thang) - Halo 3 - Rare stuff that is worth hyping up to \\PC// - Spore!!! ~fin~ |
Guys, ORIGAMI and the soon-to-be-announced Portable VG system are two different things.
|
My E3 will be spent working, but it should be interesting. I plan on making a beeline to Remedy's booth as soon as the doors open to bombard whoever is there with questions about Alan Wake.
Other than that, I'm looking forward to what Nintendo has to say about the Revolution and Microsoft's second-gen showings. |

It's really hard to do forum searches on E3, but does anyone know who has the most updated list of what's going to be presented there? IGN's last article I could find was dated 3/31/06. Not sure if anything else has come out since then. Anyone here going? I am, so I'm trying to figure out before hand which places I want to hit :)

Anyway, I can't afford a trip to E3 unfortunately. If I could, I could see first-hand what come of the possible content for the 3 new DDR games would be, although I'm pretty sure I know what SuperNOVA's gonna have. As for Ultramix 4 and Universe, no fucking clue. I'm not going insane for Zelda: Twilight Princess like everyone else is, so I really don't expect much of that to be broadcast, or in better words, I probably won't watch that part if it is. I'm also praying for a trailer for Unreal Tournament 2007. This game's been hidden from the world for way too long, and I haven't seen shit on it since I first heard about it. Other than that, the only other update I need to see is a Sonic update. Current-gen possibilities, Next-gen possibilities, doesn't matter. Gotta see em. |
- a new 2d Metroid (Metroid 5 for the DS?)
- Wii's final secret - Wii playable - Metroid Prime 3 - Super Smash Bros Wii - Wii's online plans - Meteos Disney Mix (wi-fi Meteos? please?) - Halo 3 - playable PS3 that's pretty much it. - WraithTwo - |
I'm waiting to hear about the 20 or so MMOs in development.
And of how we should all buy Physics cards for our computers. [/sarcasm] Quote:

It has been officially announced..
|
Yeah, along with Lumines 2 for PSP and Lumines Plus for PS2. Personally, I'm hoping they'll make excellent use of the Disney license by having Donald Duck spaz attack noises everytime you launch bloody decapitated Goofy heads into outta space.
|
The closer we get to E3, the more I want to know what is going to be revealed at the Sony press conference. I really hope that they finally release the price of the PS3.
|
Oh! I finally thought of an announcement I'd like to hear, that I either don't know about or haven't heard.
A sequel to Condemned: Criminal Origins. I decided to play it again last night after having not played it since launch and it's still really impressive to me. I'd love to get a sequel. I have a hunch about this one though :D |
Wait, for the 360? I heard the original was fairly short, but the overall expirence was great.
I wonder if Nintendo is going to announce any N64 ports for the DS. I mean, from what I've compared and red the DS is capable of doing so. |
For those of you not attending the big event how are you planning to keep up? What site are you going to visit? What RSS feed are you gonna connect to?
I guess this is one of the very, very, few times where I'll gladly watch G4... |
RSS Feed? What's that? I'll be using Gamespot and IGN for the most part. I'll probably also check RPGFan.

I guess I'm just going to stick with the larget gaming sites like Gamespot and IGN. Can't wait for the details of the next-gen consoles, I'd also like to see that Halo 3 video and then watch the Microsoft Xbox section of these forums explode.
And oh yeah, I hear in order to get into E3 you have to be part of the press to enter, is this true? I was under the impression that anyone who could fork out the cash could go. Quote:

I love e3. - WraithTwo - |
I'll be avoiding G4 the whole time of E3 because their coverage SUCKS(much like the rest of their programming). Last year they showed about four minutes of footage from the show floor and a good fifteen minutes of their lousy hosts(minus Sessler) complaining about how noisy the event is.
IGN and Gamespot for me. I love their E3 specific pages they keep during the event. |
Gamespot has great coverage of E3 for free. Though if you have an account, you can see all their live coverage, instead of old stuff.
|
Details of the Wii, of course.
Super Smash Bros Wii Sonic. I want to see just what kind of atmosphere we're looking at. Another Kingdom Hearts?*shot* |
