Favorite Fight Sequence ever?
Hey there!
Let's discuss the best fight sequences some of us have ever seen! Only 'La crème de la crème"! One of the best I've seen recently dates to last summer in 2005. It's in a Korean movie called 'OLDBOY'. One of the best and most twisted movies ever done, this probably features one of the best fight sequences to those who've seen it. One man with a hammer against dozens of men with sticks, baseball bats and others, in a long and narrow corridor. All in one shot, no interruption. The music is top-notch. To those who've never heard of it, OLDBOY tells the story of a drunken bussinessmen who is kidnapped and placed in a '2 Stars' hotel room for 15 years with no link to the outside world except television. He is then released from that 'prison' and must find out the reasons for his imprisonement. Let's just say that the ending is quite sad, twisted and disgusting. OLDBOY's Corridor Fight Sequence Sorry for the bad quality. |
Ong Bak (Fight Club sequence)
Ong Bak is my favorite martial arts film of all time, replacing Fist of Legend and Iron Monkey (which were also my dad's favorites until we saw Tony Jaa on the big screen). It featured a fighting style we'd rarely seen in action flicks and was both creative, exciting, and to an extent, real. Real in the sense that there were no stunt-doubles or wires involved in the making of the film. Throughout the movie I found myself practically leaping from my seat yelling "oh hell naw" whenever Tony did something spectacular. Tom Yum Goong (Chinese Sword) Tom Yum Goong (Capoeira) Two more fight scenes, but not my favorite. This is really for those interested in seeing a clip from his second big movie, Tom Yum Goong. I downloaded the raw a few months ago and found it couldn't live up to Ong Bak, but it had some very pretty fight scenes. Unfortunately, I found CG in one of the final battles (a woman's whip) and some of the fights simply weren't very creative. I really enjoyed these two, though. |
I've seen a lot. Oldboy definitely gets points for originality and a certain level of believability (within unbelievability) but it certainly wasn't the most graceful fight.
The scene that comes to mind for me is in Crouching Tiger. Even if an overplayed movie, it still has my favorite fight scenes. The one I have in mind is when several characters challenge Jade Fox; it's one of the more intricately created battles. Woo-ping Yuen always choreographs awesome shit, though. |
Well I thought I voiced my opinion here, but I guess if I were to answer seriously, I would probably pick the major battle scenes from Gladiator, Troy, and/or Braveheart. I've yet to watch OldBoy and Ongbak, but they are currently sitting on my harddrive waiting to be watched.

My favorite is from Wheels on Meals: Jackie Chan vs Benny "The Jet" Urquidez.
Jackie Chan has way too many awesome fight scenes to count. The last fight "Gorgeous" is particularly memorable, as well as the ending of "Police Story," and the bicycle scene in "Project A" among countless others. I was surprised that Jet Li's recent Fearless actually had a few solid fight scenes as well. |
The gunfight between Eric Draven & the bunch of gangsters at the end of the movie (The Crow).
Jackie chan when he fights using a portable stair. Can't remember the movie's damn name. Olboy's hammer fight scene is also pretty good. Specially becuse it was done in one shot. But it was mentioned before, so.... |
Ong Bak is awesome. Pure fighting, none of the special effect crap. As for special effects, Kung-Fu Hustle fight scenes are pretty awesome.

My favourites: Chan and kooky guru guy versus the Hatchet Gang from Drunken Master 2. Chan versus kicky guy and punchy guy atop the building roof in Who Am I?. Chan versus ultra-stylised boxer dude at the end of Gorgeous. |

Well, that and the amazing 'storey leap' stunt toward the end.

My favorite fight scene has got to be the final fight scene in Gorgeous, between Jackie Chan & Bradley James Allan. That fight was just, it was a realistic fight, that still had style & it seemed as though it was done in one take, even if it wasn't. Great fight scene. It seemed as though it was a fair fight, unlike the other ways fight scenes tend to go, with the hero all of a sudden gaining the upper hand.
|
I'd have to say some of the fight sequences in Hero are in my favourites, I couldn't really pick out one of them although the fight on the lake really stood out to me.
I also love the final fight in Snatch where it goes from the boxing ring to underwater, I thought that was really interesting point in the film since it seemed so out of place with the rest of the movie but in a good way of course. |
I love the final showdown in shaolin soccer. It wasnt a traditional fight with fist but with the soccer.
I also like the fights in Drunken master 2. He just pulled off so many wierd moves and no one could predict it since he was drunk. |
Nothing is better than the fight scene in "They Live". Nothing.

Ong Bak club fight was awesome.
Also I loved the fight in the Transporter where he goes back to the house after they blow up his car and he kicks the door down and beats the shit out of them and takes the Mercedes. |

I've always enjoyed the gun fight at the beginning of The Wild Bunch, myself. |
Crap! I forgot one. The Fight Scene at the end of ROBOCOP 2, between Murphy and Cain! GOD, I love Robocop!
|
Jackie Chan movies always have insanely entertaining fight sequences.
But the best ever fight sequences are in Enter The Dragon. http://www.filelodge.com/files/room1...rTheDragon.gif http://www.filelodge.com/files/room1...rTheDragon.gif |

Here are some of my personal favorites:
Best Gun Fight: Trinity and Neo vs. the lobby guards at the Agents' Headquarters from The Matrix. Best Dogfight: Final showdown in Top Gun. DANGERZONE! Best Sword Fight: The defense of the Village from The Seven Samurai; and that includes the sequence as Kambei is plotting out possible entry routes by the bandits. Fucking CLASSIC. Best Large-Scale Fight: Battle of Minas Tirith from Lord of the Rings: The Return of The King. Best Fist Fight: Anything in Fight Club with Jack doing voiceovers about the banality of existence and how fighting is a reason to live. Best Magic Fight: Gandalf vs. the Balrog that started in Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring and finished at the begginning of Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. Best Bot Fight: T-800 vs. T-1000 in the steel foundy from Terminator 2. Best Virtual Fight: Thadeus vs. Jeu sparring in The Animatrix (Segment: The Final Flight of the Osiris). |
I know it's been mentioned already, but Oldboy simply can't get enough praise. That hallway fight is just amazing, especially how realistic it all looks. I swear it's like they were hitting each other for real. The music really added to the sheer awesomeness of it all, too.
I also liked pretty much every fight scene in Versus, and the kung fu sequences in Godzilla: Final Wars were cool as well. Basically you can't go wrong when Kitamura is directing. Same thing for Jackie Chan and his many excellent battles. But my personal favorite was in this one movie whose name I can't recall. It's one of Chan's older titles, in which the final fight was between him and this old guy (or a yong guy in a wig, whichever). It was, quite simply, the longest fight I've ever seen in film, going for at least 15 minutes, and Chan's enemy pulled some amazing flips. It got so intense, that Jackie's training partner in the movie stepped in, and the two of them continued to fight the old man, ultimately overpowering him (it's also the one time I've seen someone give Jackie a hand in taking down a single enemy). I wish I could remember the name. I think it had "Blood" somewhere in the title. It was also the only Chan movie I've seen to feature nudity. Bouncy nudity. ;) |
As for gun fights, the one near the end of Way of the Gun pretty much tops everything else I've ever seen. It doesn't follow the typical "everyone misses the heroes, heroes take people out in one shot" formula you see in a lot of movies. You see everyone using strategies, and the scene is very realistic and really long. It's great. Equilibrium however deserves mention as well due to extreme style points.
And of course, like everyone else said, the Oldboy fight is excellent. |
Do they have been to limited to motion scenes? The best fighting sequence I've ever seen is the two-page spread of Spider-Man fighting Morlun in Amazing Spider-Man.
|
I forgot to mention the fight between Hector and Achilles in Troy nearly at the end of the movie. That was definitely the thing that made me like the movie.
|
I prefered the fight between Hector's brother and that other guy. One-sided fights can be just as entertaining. Watching the kid struggle against that beastly man was quite tense.

You know Crimson... seeing your avatar made me remember Battle Royale and all the awesome fight scenes in that film. I didn't have any one particular fight scene, but I'll never forget the shock of having watched Kitano dispatch the first loudmouth in the class in the movie. I was sort of in shock and just thinking, "Did that motherfucker just stick that nigga?!"
I still think that it's one of the most gruesomely fun movies ever made. :D |

I just downloaded Tom Yum Goong. I gotta say that Ong Bak was better but there was some pretty insane shit in this movie. When Tony Jaa fucking took out all those guys near the end. Every single one of those guys had at least 3 broken limbs. And the fight between Lateef Crowder and Tony Jaa was damn amazing. I also enjoyed watching a 7 foot tall muscle guy throw a baby elephant through a window.
|
While I tend to loathe anime in my old age, I must say that the finale to Ninja Scroll is fucking pornographic in it's awesomeness. I probably whipped it out and slapped my cock against my TV while that final fight was playing it was so fucking badass.

Not to mention the fight between Kiriyama and Kawada. Made me think, "Kiriyama is one crazy asshole." |
I've always liked the fight between Darth Vader and Luke from Return of the Jedi. Not as much action as say, Obi-Wan vs Anakin in Revenge on the Sith, but the dialogue between them is what makes it so good. The way he's like "Well if I can't turn you, I'll just go after your sister." to make Luke flip out was really cool. And when Luke cuts off Vader's hand, like Vader did to him... Poor guy just can't keep hands.
As for gunfights, the one from The Boondock Saints between The Saints and Rocco and El Ducce (sp?) was pretty awesome. That whole scene with Willem Dafoe describing it and acting it out alongside them was really cool. The Lobby Scene in The Matrix is overrated. |
1:when snake first meets ocelot.:aargh: :edgarrock: :aargh:
2:dbz budokai tenkaichi intro.:aargh: :aargh: :aargh: :doggy: those are both awesome cutscenes. |
Best Swordgun fight: Equilibrium
I think that's all that needs mentioning |
Advent Children's showdown was pretty neat. I loved the outright over-the-topness, paired with superb CGI, editing and music.

Timmy vs. Jimmy.... classic! |
My favorite fighting Scenes are these from Tony Jaa. This guy kicks ass! :D

The sword fight between the Prisoner and the villain(Can't for the life of me remember his name) at the end of Versus was pretty awesome.
But my favorite fight would be the one between Godzilla and the God Beasts during GMK. It was actually kind of sad watching poor 'lil Baragon get his butt handed to him during his one and only battle against Godzilla, especially right at the end when Godzilla gets ready to throw the final blow and he raises his head up to get one last look at he demon that he was loosing to. The look on Baragons face was priceless!!. |
The Best Fight Scene Ever award goes to a pretty obscure movie called Drive starring Mark Dacascos. I don't think the movie was officially released in US,which is rather strange, considering that it's completely in English. Anyway,Dacascos plays a guy a runaway from the Yakuza who want to get their hands on the experimental psionic booster implanted into his heart. Lemme tell you,the fight scenes have to be seen to be believed... O_o I've seen some crazy shit over the years, being a martial arts movie fan and all,but this one takes the cake. One hundred seventeen minutes of pure,straight-out PWNAGE. Dacascos moves at nearly superhuman speed, opening up cans of whoopass left and right.
Most Memorable Fighting Scene: The Final Showdown - Dacascos versus the Trenchcoat-Sportin'-Evil-Henchman-Dude-with-Sunglasses-Who-Happens-to-Have-a-Shitload-of-Turboimplants-in-Him. Runner-Up: Dacascos takes on a entire squad of evil henchmen with electric nightsticks, trashing the entire motel AND garage while using every single object in the vicinity to inflict pain upon the infidels,Jackie Chan-style. |
DRIVE? Hahaha. Best bad movie ever.
Well, actually, not really, but it has Marc Dacascos soit automatically wins. It has been released domestically and aired on HBO a few years ago. As laughably bad as the movie might have been, Dacascos is a talented martial artist. It's kind of funny, actually: a martial arts instructor I had in middle school is good friends with Dacascos. |
