World Destruction
Been pretty dead in here, so let's try to revive it a bit with some of the bigger pieces of news to come out recently.
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...ct_s_image.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...ngel/wdd05.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...ngel/wdd04.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...ngel/wdd06.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...gel/wddd03.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...gel/wddd05.jpg World Destruction, a traditional turn-based RPG published by Sega, developed by Image Epoch, and a project that reunites three key members from the Xenogears staff: Masato Kato (scenario writer), Yasunori Matsuda (meh, composer), and Kunihiko Tanaka (character designer). A cool little side note is that the guy who did the character designs for Drakengard got a special nod for his help with costume design in this game. The stereotypical title supposedly comes from the goal of the game-- the protagonists, Kyrie and... Morute, I guess, have joined an underground organization meant to free humanity from enslavement by destroying the world. Oh, Kato. How I've missed your completely bullshit plot twists. :tpg: It's due out in Japan sometime in the Summer, so maybe North America could get it by the end of this year. No announcement, so who knows! |
To save humanity by destroying the world? Sounds like a typical cliche motivation for an RPG villian. Count me in.
|
Lord knows I never turn down a cliche JRPG. I'll keep an eye on this one, especially with the return of some of the XG staff.
Have to say, I dig on the character designs. I get a vague Suikoden feel from the battle screens. |
Wow, I'm diggin' the character design also, and the artwork and crap. Now I got something new to keep a watch out for.
|
Wow, this looks pretty good! I'm confident the staff will make a good JRPG here; the art looks great and the plot sounds fairly simple, but still decent enough to garner gamer's attention. Yes, I'm looking forward to this on-----wait, it's Sega? :annoyed: (:deadhorse:)
Nah even if it is :SEGA:, I think this should be a beauty. |
The designer of the Grandia series, Masatoshi Azumi, is also working on this game. Bonus awesome.

:deadhorse:, where horse = my GAMING KNOWLEDGE brain.
|
Am I the only one more excited that Masatoshi Azumi has something to do with this game than any of the Xenogears staff? Either way, these are some pretty impressive names all collaborating on a project together. It doesn't even bother me that it's a DS game because it looks like it'll be pretty fantastic regardless.
|
I found the official website but there's not much there other than some character art and in-game shots. I grabbed them all so enjoy:
CHARACTER ART: (Pretty large so I'm going with spoiler tags) Spoiler:
IN-GAME SHOTS: Reminds me of Kilika from FFX. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...1w1_290x-1.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...cs1w1_256x.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...cs1w1_256x.jpg |
The artwork sure is pretty. Liking those character designs too. Could be one to keep an eye out for.
|
The artwork is very well done, I'm also happy to see Yasunori Mitsuda is doing the soundtrack.
|
Nice to see a game where the female characters aren't going to be dressed SUPER SLUTTAY!
|
So if these guys are the heroes and they are trying to destroy the world, does that mean that the villians are trying to save it? That's a pretty odd twist compared to what we're all use to seeing.

And look pretty it does. Looks like they're making good use of the two screens; sometimes it's enough to just use the extra space to send something extra huge at you. Some sort of action point system going on there? |

Oh yeah, finally a 'good' traditional turn-based RPG to look out for. Got tired of these action rpgs they've been releasing on the DS.

Who needs gameplay when you can have menus!

New scans from new issue of Famitsu
One of them showing characters: http://www.rpgland.com/content/media....thumbnail.jpg |
Interesting. I'll have to check this out more. Any trailers / gameplay videos available yet? Or is it still one of those early previews?
Nice character design / overall look. I'm a little jealous in fact. |
The first trailer is up here:
World Destruction -ƒ[ƒ‹ƒhEƒfƒXƒgƒ‰ƒNƒVƒ‡ƒ“- Also, the game comes out September 18 for 5980 yen. Is that normal price for a DS game in Japan? |
I doubt it, but then again maybe they pay in RAPE DOLLARS.
The obligatory vocal theme song is actually quite nice. And apparently there will be an anime?? Hopefully it ends up being an excuse to vacuum-pack as much fanservice into 22 minutes as humanly possible, without creating a rift in the fabric of reality and destroying the wor-HEY WAIT A MINUTE. |
The anime was announced alongside the game. It goes on the air around the same time the game's released. As for the price, it seems about right for Japan. Games are more expensive than their American counterparts.
In true "epic" RPG fashion, the first trailer was all fluff and no gameplay. |
Quote:
Also, according to the Google Calculator: 5 980 Japanese yen = 56.79206 U.S. dollars So, just under $60. This price will probably drop to $40 as that seems to be the highest price for any DS game in america. |
I figured out it costs more money because they are using a 2 gigabit DS cartridge, which I guess is larger than the normal one.
|
For those playing at home, Resident Evil DS and FFIV DS stand at 1Gb.
|
I believe it's the second largest DS game, after ASH: Archaic Sealed Heat. However, I don't believe 2 Gb is that big of deal. It's only 256 MB of flash.

World Destruction: 6 scans, story details, new movies

At first I thought the entire game was going to have anthro critters running around until I read the paragraph. Whew. Those governing animals look pretty bizarre, especially the wolf and that crazy thing to the left of the bald eagle. WTF is that supposed to be? The official website has better pics of them under the World section. The shark (the one at the top) is cut off in the scan. At least the playable characters are normal-looking, minus that crazy pirate bear.
The battle system looks pretty neat if the screenshots are anything to go by. I think it's pretty cool that the battles utilize both screens. |

That is an elephant? I never would have guessed. It looks horrible at any rate. The snake looks like a girl in a costume too.
|
So apparently World Destruction is turning into a classic Disney Movie. Seriously, the crocodile belongs in Bedknobs and Broomsticks.

I agree though. Those pics are pretty depressing. Makes me wish I hadn't seen them because they're turning me off from what excitement I've had for this game. Let's hope the gameplay/story/whatever makes up for what we've seen here today. |
World Destruction
I will say one good thing, I love the track that plays on the official site. Mitsuda has done a good job with that track at least. Ripped it from the site, get it here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=H0MYEC91 Also the anime version is airing in Japan and its being subbed by a few groups. From what I heard the anime has the same characters and general settings, but the story is different. Same thing with the manga adaptation. It makes me wonder who created the original concept and basic story... I watched episode 1 on a lark. Morte is one tough chick so far, and Maaya Sakamoto does a good job on the voice. Not impressed with the main protaganist personality so far... I can say the game will likely have a good strong female lead instead of the generic soft white mage cliche. |

Well as well answer everyone at once.
I like how you always mention 'furry' to me in every one of your replies. I used to be a furry but not anymore. If I was a furry, I would've been happy to see these animals in the game but my post was pretty negative towards them. Besides, I only talked about animals in my last post because that was the only update given to us by Hindman. What else would I be talking about? I'd much rather the game have NO anthro animals in it aside from the bear, and if it had to have animals, than at least make them look better than what I'm seeing in those scans. I mean, the main characters look great, so why can't that apply to these animals as well? If you still persist in calling me a furry, then please do so. I can't exactly stop you. I didn't know the anime series was already out. I'm DLing both eps right now. I'll see how that goes. P.S. I hate Megaupload but yeah, it's not a membership site. |
There's a subbed anime for this? If it doesn't suck, I'd love to get my hands on it. How many eps are there, and how many have been translated from moon language?

13 episodes in total will air. So far 3 episodes have been subbed, though GoodBadsubs use mkv with ass. subtitle file. Most of the voice cast is the same as the game except for two. Full cast list here: World Destruction (video game - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) As you can see, its practically a A list Seiyuu cast. Anime Staff Director: Shunsuke Tada Series Editor/Script: Masahiro Yokotani Character Design: Keita Matsumoto Music: Yoshihiro Ike Animation: Production IG Production: Sega/Geneon Entertainment Please note that the anime, game and manga will use the same concept and characters, but the stories will be different. If people want Kato's work, wait for the game etc. And I like Megaupload only because files stay there for ages. I can download stuff even if that file was uploaded a year ago. Other than this convient fact, the site is obnoxious and the pop ups suck, but I won't have people constantly nagging for re uploads. |

I dunno, some people are saying the animation takes a nosedive in episode 3, and the plot in episode 3 isn't too impressive either, at least from what I have read on a blog...
Not to mention theres no way they can cram a long complex story in 13 episodes anyway. I'll probably download it when the entire series is subbed just to see if its good... But I have a feeling the game will have a much longer development than the anime. Not to mention the main character will be able to combat in the game, whereas in the anime it looks he's gonna be completly useless. Even Miyano's voice can only make him appealing so far... Also Morte looks alot taller than Kyrie in the anime than in the game. And alot of ribbons on her boots and frills are missing in the anime version of Morte. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...w1_526x640.jpg Personally, the anime outfit looks better than the above. Even the ribbon on her weapon is missing. |
Episode 3 has some slight prod. value issues here and there but a lot of it is just unexpected super deformed character shifts, which I could not stop laughing at.
The show gained a lot of charm in episode 3, I hope they can keep it up. Still looks beautiful as all get out. God bless I.G. |
I'm really looking forward to this one. The anime was pretty enjoyable so far, but I'm far more excited about the game. Hope it won't fail my high expectations.
|
I'm downloading the anime of this, I hope it's good. Any announcement on a NA release date of the game yet?

Square Enix Music Online :: World Destruction Premium Soundtrack :: Album Information
A premium soundtrack will be available to people who pre ordered the game in Japan. The announcment also confirms that this is the game Mitsuda was recording with the Czech Philharmonic. If anyone can upload the soundtrack when the game is out on September 18, 2008, that would be nice. No North America release announcement was made so far, so right now it's still a JP only release. |
The premium soundtrack will be similar to the Soma Bringer Premium Soundtrack, in the fact it will only offer a few samples. I suspect a true soundtrack release in November (or sometime thereafter). But yes, I'd love for someone to upload this small sampler as well!

This also explains why there is no news on a full soundtrack release. Mitsuda is probably waiting till hes done with the US version, and then release a complete OST. The premium bonus soundtrack will have to made do for now. http://www.gamingforce.org/forums/au...oundtrack.html |
