Best April Fools pranks pulled on you
 

The best one ever pulled on me was a rather simple one, but will forever remain as the one time my sister has ever trumped me in a battle of wits.

She simply took a black elastic and put it on the hose in our sink. I went to turn on the faucet, and bam, got me right in the stomach with a shot of cold water. I was so impressed I hugged her and got her all nice and wet.

Bonus: Anybody who remembers the now defunct gaming site The GIA (Gaming Intelligence Agency) would know that they pulled some seriously mindblowing April Fools pranks in their hayday. To this day, I've never seen anything on the web even come close to some of the things they did.

So what sort of things have been pulled on you?

For the record, this year's GFF prank would have been better if the random youtube video popup was RickRoll'd instead of dancing anime chicks.

Last year, my brother was actively seeking jobs, so on April 1 we had a friend call him pretending to be from company X offering a job. 10 minutes later he called him back and made fun of him.


....then 2 hours later Company X really DID call and offer him a job. Doh.

It would've been better if every YouTube video we posted today turned into Rick Rolls.

Yeah, would have been HILARIOUS if they'd done that horribly predictable thing and done what everyone else on the internet does.

Yeah.

I thought it was funny. :p Oddly enough, so did my boyfriend at the time.

The worst part of this is that everything is upside down. I'm browsing on my iPod touch and when I flip it to read the titles the screen flips itself. :(

Just add "&autoplay=1" after the youtube video code, minus the quotes.

There's a few alternate Rick Roll Videos that will allow embedding on youtube and not "disabled by request".

Speaking of which, how do the videos work here on GFF? It seems random that I get a video sometimes and nothing on other times.

This flipped text is quite annoying too, I'd have to say. Takes me an extra 10 seconds to read titles.

I'd actually like to be able to see the Youtubes, but they don't play at work. Any kind of streaming audio/video takes minutes to load. Guess I'll have to wait until tonight.

Wow, now that they show up in the corner makes it even more annoying....and has no pause button....and covers up the navigation at the top of the page. (I have to remember not to browse GFF while in class.)

As weird as it sounds, I actually don't mind the one playing on my screen as I'm typing this. It's just some J-Techno in the background with two girls dancing in an infinite loop.

Good show though. Makes GFF more interesting by the minute. We need to add Rick Roll into that line up. If it's not on there already anyways, I haven't seen it yet.

Yes, the dissappearing links are quite frusterating. I had all of them dissappear before I could get anywhere. Half the links I clicked on dissappeared. It was a little annoying =P

Oh thank god I didn't get a youtube pop-up when I checked GFF in a computer lab earlier. That computer actually had speakers, and I thought the joke was just upside down text at the time. Wouldn't have been good to have Lenny start shouting about his dental plan right across from the dept. chairman's open office door.

There are much worse ones. Be glad you didn't get the McDonalds one.

I love the McDonald's one. It's a fantastic remix of a Touhou theme. It amused me greatly. When I first awoke this morning, I thought everything was in Arabic (until I realized my mistake), but at the same time, the Tunak video appeared and I thought that was rather funny.

The "upside down text" only appears as a jumble of occasional upside down letters amongst a huge layer of question marks...

what browser are you using? Blah told me he's using the arial unicode font, which I have on my computer, but IE6 gives me a bunch of boxes and half the letters.

I don't know why people are complaining, at least it's only forum names, thread names and usernames, not entire posts.

I totally dug it, and thought that it was just some uber awesome prank. Then it seems that it really is, I'm just not getting the full effect.

I am using Firefox, like I'm sure most people here are, albeit through a Mac, and forum names and people's names are almost illegible for me. In before "try right clicking".

Probably the best one pulled on me this year would be Lurker's topic in the Advice Column forum, because it took until she admitted it for me to realise it was a joke.

I had my four closest friends, my father, his girlfriend, and the girl I'm currently dating all convinced I had gotten some broad pregnant.

The reactions were rather extraordinary, not to mention surprising.
