Miles Mar 30, 2008 12:21 AM

I wish I could win this and save myself 20 bucks but some of you guys are just insanely good at this game.

nuttyturnip Mar 30, 2008 12:28 AM

I'm confused; why are there so many byes? Wouldn't it make sense just to pair everyone up, and at most have 1 bye?

Slash Mar 30, 2008 12:40 AM

Nutty, if that happens then there will probably be like a 1 v 1 v 1 at the end or something of the sort.

and since theres more than 16 and less than 32, it'd have to be run with a starting field of 32.

since

24 people would move to 12
12 people would move to 6
and then 6 people would turn to 3. That wouldn't work well for a 1v1

The Plane Is A Tiger Mar 30, 2008 12:41 AM

Yeah, that bracket makes no sense at all. Why aren't all the bye people facing each other? Byes are supposed to be used when there's an odd number of people only.

Also, are each of these best of 3? Otherwise I'm not sure how double elimination is supposed to work.

But this way 1/3 of the competitors get to skip the first round. That doesn't even approach fair.

Indeed (to Tritoch's reply). It's more fair to have either 1v1v1 at the end, or have them play a Round Robin, than give 7 people a free pass in the first round.

Slash Mar 30, 2008 12:47 AM

Who cares? It balances itself out anyways if someone loses they'll more than anything face a bye and then skate through for another round. Just deal with it or quit the tournament we're all just trying to have fun and EVERYONE wanted it to be 1v1 so there.

The Plane Is A Tiger Mar 30, 2008 12:51 AM

Or Chaotic could just redo the brackets and give 1 random person a bye to even things up so that the tournament is actually fair to everyone. This is a pretty large problem that's easy to fix.

nuttyturnip Mar 30, 2008 12:52 AM

Slow down there, Sparky. I'm not threatening to quit in a huff or anything. I just want to know Chaotic's logic here, since giving 9 people (7 + Slicky and Black Mage) a free pass seems out of left field, as opposed to settling whatever numerical inconsistencies exist in the final round.

Chaotic Mar 30, 2008 01:08 AM

I used a program to generate the brackets, I formed nothing of this on my own. Tossed everyone's name in and then it randomly created it. If they didn't make it fair, I wouldn't be using it. Trust me on this one, I was iffy on all the byes, but if it will even everything out, then I trust it. I've used this that tournament I ran before and it worked out just fine.

I ran a test bracket, it will eventually even out on both sides, so I'm not exactly worried about it, but probably when we reach a winner on the Loser's Bracket and the Winner's Bracket to form the finals, it will just end after the two face off once... I don't see the need to prolong it.

This is how it should look after everything is done...:

Something like that. I assure you though, everything will be fair in this tournament.

Slash Mar 30, 2008 01:18 AM

A better question is why is it that the two people who are currently bringing it up, are also not given the bye?

I'm perfectly fine with who gets byes and what not because people were wanting a 1 v 1 tournament. not a "1v1 tournament till we get to the end where we will dramatically change the rules into a 1v1v1 round robin 15 match tournament, with the possibility of it turning into 20+ matches in case we get some bizzare matching score just so that two people who didn't get byes will feel better" tournament.

I'm sorry if this makes me sound like an ass but I know that the brackets are randomly made and who got put where was all by chance and just deal with it and play your matches.

Be happy that big CN and his brother didn't get put on the top and bottom.

Chaotic Mar 30, 2008 01:45 AM

It's first to 3 wins... If you should reach the max amount of matches, you'll be fighting 5 matches against the person. When some one reaches a total of 3 wins, that player moves on, and the loser moves to the left side of the tournament board into the loser's bracket.

In a Double Elimination Tournament, you basically have a second chance to reach the finals by winning in the loser's bracket. Should you lose again in the loser's bracket, you're eliminated from the tournament.

The Plane Is A Tiger Mar 30, 2008 01:47 AM

Slash, you're not understanding this at all. I'm not even sure to begin with all that's wrong in your post, because honestly it's stupid. How can you not see that 1/3 of the players getting to skip a round is bad for the majority when it's as simple as:
Quote:

- Turbo vs. KrelEN
- Slicky vs. Black Mage
>
- Nexius vs. nazpyro
- AcerBandit vs. Ihopz
>
- Basil vs. nuttyturnip
-The_Griffin vs. Slash
>
- Identity Crisis vs. SuperSonic
- Kairyu vs. Tritoch
>
- BigCN401 vs. Freelance Wolf
- Generic Badass vs. Chaotic
>
- Lukage vs. Sprouticus
- Miles gets the free, random bye.
to make it entirely fair from the start. The round robin tournament is just another simple solution, and not even close to as complex as you seem to think.

Why are the only two people complaining about it ones without a bye? That's most of the people participating right there, and there haven't been many posts in the thread yet. Odds are someone saying something won't have a bye, so don't go trying to imply we're whining out of jealousy. I'm not saying I'm going to quit or anything, but especially now that there's a prize involved I care that there's an even playing field. You're making it sound like a simple bracket restructuring would be the end of the world. Even if Chaotic's right and this bracket is theoretically fair in the end, there just isn't a need for all these byes.

On the plus side, Chaotic's program did do a neat job with the bracket presentation.

nuttyturnip Mar 30, 2008 01:57 AM

Seeing the filled in bracket (with the explanation of how the double elimination works) helps me understand this a little better. I'm still not comfortable with the byes, but I'm not sure how you'd keep track of the double elimination without some sort of complicated set-up like this.

I like how Sparky's getting all upset about this when all I was looking for was a little clarification. Take some Ambien and sleep it off.

Slash Mar 30, 2008 01:59 AM

Tritoch, believe it or not, I actually do understand where you are coming from but if there is a 1 v 1 v 1 or even a 3x3 round robin for each side, then that could take out a fun lil upset factor.

And we already know BigCN or his brother will get the prize. j/k lol. But the brackets do even themselves out and we should just play the tournament out. OR you could attempt to hunt down 9 other people to get in the tournament and try to convince Chaotic to add them in and postpone the tournament.

The Plane Is A Tiger Mar 30, 2008 02:03 AM

Yeah (to Nutty), after reading Chaotic's post about how the double elimination will work it seems to require something complicated. To be honest, I don't really understand it at all, but it makes a strange kind of sense. I still distrust such a large number of byes, but if it's necessary to pull off double elimination then so be it I suppose.

I'll crush all comers anyway, so it doesn't matter.

Spoiler:
Be gentle, Identity Crisis. ;_;

Slash Mar 30, 2008 02:05 AM

Tritoch...just remember...Landmasters

The Plane Is A Tiger Mar 30, 2008 02:06 AM

I don't fear the Landmasters. I fear IC's ungodly ability to win no matter what the odds are more than any puny smash attack.

nuttyturnip Mar 30, 2008 02:08 AM

Ok, one more question about the bracket. Using your filled in example, Chaotic made it all the way to the end of the winners' bracket without losing a single match. Let's say Kairyu wins the losers' bracket. Since he's already lost once, would he have to beat Chaotic in two straight matches to win? Otherwise, the winners' bracket wins by default, since they have one loss to fall back on.

Slash Mar 30, 2008 02:08 AM

LoL But look who you're facing in your first match

And Chaotic said that the final match (Winners Bracket v Losers Bracket) Is an all or nothing battle so if the person in the winners bracket loses, the lose. No second chance. (Which sucks but eh..life goes on?)

The Plane Is A Tiger Mar 30, 2008 02:14 AM

Meh, so I'm facing Guy Who Hates Landmasters, then Guy Who Loves Landmasters, then Guy Who IS A Landmaster. They'll bleed like all the rest. Well, maybe not Miles. He may just drip fuel.

Also, I wasn't going to say anything since I was a bit tired of arguing, but I think the final match should be best of three. It would suck for either side to lose the whole tournament on a one match fluke after fighting all the way there, and I'd rather there be a definitive winner.

Slash Mar 30, 2008 02:18 AM

I think its best of 5 actually.

I mean though that if the winner bracket loses the best of 5, there won't be another match.

Chaotic Mar 30, 2008 02:57 AM

Thinking about it, meh, I'll just let everything play out the way it's supposed to. Screw the do or die idea. :eagletear:

Answering your question, nutty, yes if Kai did win the Loser's Bracket, he would have to defeat me in two sets to eliminate me. It's the way the tournament works...

Ironically, I did set up the board if I did lose a round in the tournament.

When you look rightmost part of the bracket, I ended up being the winner of the Winner's Bracket (which explains my lack of losses) and Ihopz is the Winner of the Loser's Bracket. His name was moved to the right side where I won the Winner's bracket.

Now, we faced off in our matches, and I ended up losing to him (randomly speaking 5-3). I move down to the Loser's side and I have to face him again. Now we're both in danger of being eliminated since he's been eliminated once from the loser's bracket and so have I. At this point it's do or die. This time, I end up winning and knock out Ihopz from the tournament leaving me the winner.

Hopefully, that makes everything a little bit clearer. Everyone still has to technically lose twice in the tournament to be eliminated. Had I won the first time around, I would've ended up winning the whole tournament without a single loss to my name.

Kairyu Mar 30, 2008 02:58 AM

Yeah, that is a lot of byes for a double elimination tournament.
Seeing that we probably wouldn't have 16 or 32 players involved why not use the swiss tourney style, Chaotic? I'm not trying to change your mind or anything, just curious :).

Anyway, I'm ready to do some matches Tritoch. If you want to, we can schedule our match at more reasonable time. It must be late over there =o.

Chaotic Mar 30, 2008 03:12 AM

Eh, we could, but I just don't feel like it at this point. I have the brackets set up and I just don't want to have randomize everything again making people fear that they're gonna get Ihopz as their first match.

As I said before, I was iffy about all the byes, but the program did it, not me. So get mad at tio tournament maker! I'm just following that and I hope we could still have fun despite having seven byes in this. <_<

The Plane Is A Tiger Mar 30, 2008 03:47 AM

I thought the whole purpose of the 1v1 tournament was that it'd be simpler than the other one, but I don't understand a bit of this, including why there's a need for so many byes.

Anyway, I'm up for a match anytime except tonight simply because it is a bit late now. I was busy with Bioshock when you posted earlier, Kai. I'm on AIM pretty much any time that I'm home, so catch me on there.

Chaotic Mar 30, 2008 03:55 AM

As I said, don't blame me, blame the program. I didn't expect that many byes either.

Just let the whole thing flow and everything will come to be understandable.

Now no more chatty about all the byes, please. Matches, matches, matches!

Buizel Mar 30, 2008 06:28 AM

LOL @ all the jokes about my brother or I winning. >_>

Hmm, the brackets made me confuse at first but after reading more post, I guess I understand how it goes. So I'll just wait here until it's my turn and tell my brother that he's up. :D

Wall Feces Mar 30, 2008 08:20 AM

Sweet, glad this is underway. Look like I'm facing IC or SuperSonic... I might have missed it, but are we just saying "fuck it" to laggy connections and dealing with it? I ask because IC, you're awesome, but your connection is the furthest from awesome.

Krelian Mar 30, 2008 08:49 AM

I may be without wifi for a day or two, starting tonight.

Just a warning.

Black Mage Mar 30, 2008 11:21 AM

Just caught the brackets and spoke to Slicky.

We'll be doing our matches around 4pm - 5pm EST later on today.

Good luck to everyone.

The_Griffin Mar 30, 2008 03:48 PM

Slash and I will be fighting today at 5 PM PST.

Slicky Mar 30, 2008 04:19 PM

Black mage won on our match, very nice handling on Zelda there. Still a good match and good luck on the rest.

Basil Mar 30, 2008 04:20 PM

nutty and I will be doing our first round matches now~

nuttyturnip Mar 30, 2008 04:43 PM

Basil wins 3-1. Time to get to know the loser bracket a bit better.

Slash Mar 30, 2008 06:39 PM

Heads up, Griff and I will be starting our matches soon

Chaotic Mar 30, 2008 06:41 PM

Bracket Image updated and current matches going on updated also...

Basil Mar 30, 2008 06:48 PM

Chaotic and I will be doing our match fairly shortly.

Gonna kick ur ass >:3 Or not. :gonk: Geez. You put up a pretty good fight there.

Edit: What's with the lag? I hope that's not me ._. I haven't gotten my LAN adapter yet.

Chaotic Mar 30, 2008 07:18 PM

It might've been on my end also. My Wii isn't exactly right next to my router, so it might've caused some problems.

Anyway, I was victorious over Basil 3-1.

SuperSonic Mar 30, 2008 07:43 PM

Identity Crisis and I are about to have our match in a few minutes.

Additional Spam:
Icy killed me 3-0. GGs.

Wall Feces Mar 30, 2008 08:13 PM

Just PMed Icy... Hoping to do our match-up tonight, and by match-up, I mean murder-fest :)

The_Griffin Mar 30, 2008 08:49 PM

After much ZA WARUDO on my part, I beat Slash 3-2.

EDIT: Also, fun fact. The assist trophy can, and will, break the smash ball FOR you. And you WILL get the smash.

Wall Feces Mar 30, 2008 08:53 PM

Identity Crisis beat me 3-1 after 4 stellar matches. Great game, man :)

Nexius Mar 30, 2008 09:38 PM

Alright, time for me and Nazpyro to go at it. Will edit results here. (And sorry for rejecting you joining, Basil, this is why)
Match done, 3-0. Sorry naz =x

Basil Mar 30, 2008 09:42 PM

Yeah, I figured as much, I tried to join your game before you posted here. It doesn't tell me the person rejected the match, rather it only says "Unable to join game". Why couldn't Nintendo just be direct about this stuff.

Anywho, enjoy your matches.

Chaotic Mar 30, 2008 09:55 PM

Brackets and current matches updated. Check out who you might be fighting next!

Nintendo doesn't want a kid to feel like their friends left them out of a match... Oh wait! This game is rated T! -_-;

So my brother and I are just waiting for our match to come up. I tried IMing AcerBandit to schedule a match with my brother on AIM but he always seems idle. I should try PMing then. >_>

nazpyro Mar 30, 2008 10:03 PM

Man, Nex kicked my sick ass 3-0. GG yo. =p

Doesn't help that I had no composure and was coughing uncontrollably the whole time. Damn flu season. ;_;

Let's go loser's bracket.

nuttyturnip Mar 30, 2008 10:13 PM

A heads up to Sprouticus and anyone else I have to face: I'm going out of town on Tuesday, and won't be back until Friday. I'll be available tomorrow night from 7-11, but anything after that will have to wait until the weekend.

Wall Feces Mar 30, 2008 10:17 PM

Crap, we might not be able to fight for a LONG time... I work extra late tomorrow (I won't leave until 11, be home around 11:30), and then im going out of town Friday through Sunday.

Freelance Mar 30, 2008 10:25 PM

Hmmm I never fought Nexius before so I've no idea what to expect. Naz is a pretty good player though, so if he lost my chances of winning now is slim. My schedule fluculates(sp?) daily and my net connection has been spotty for two days now, but hopefully we can play soon, Nex.

The Plane Is A Tiger Mar 30, 2008 11:11 PM

Curses, Kairyu has defeated me! Alas, I had no landmasters handy to frighten him into submission. Great matches, him winning 2-1.

I suppose I'll have to conquer the losers' bracket now to ensure my victory. I've got a better idea of what characters work with online delay now.

Identity Crisis Mar 30, 2008 11:16 PM

Wait, are the matches best out of three or the first to three wins? I thought it was the latter.

I think you might have another shot at defeating Kairyu, Tritoch.

The Plane Is A Tiger Mar 30, 2008 11:22 PM

Yeah, Kairyu just realized that too. FINAL BATTLE TIME.

EDIT: After a truly EPIC match, Kairyu still wins 3-1. After 8 minutes on Hyrule Temple we were both on our last lives, still hung on for awhile in sudden death, and then we both exploded on the same bo-bomb. I died about half a second too soon.

Kairyu Mar 30, 2008 11:39 PM

Holy crap, nice matches Tritoch!
here's a quick break down of what happened:
- He won the first bout with Zelda versus my Toon Link (without using Shiek, wtf!) I thought I had the upper hand there when I managed to dodge all of your attacks for a good minute xD. Getting owned by her forward+B move hurts. [Stage: Final Destination]

- The second match ended with My Yoshi beating his Pokemon Trainer (mostly Squirtle) I'm blaming that one on my dumb luck with items =D [Stage: Yoshi's Island (melee)]

- The third one was kind of one-sided. I was Link and Tritoch was Ness. He managed to KO me twice with his combination of Up+A and PK thunders but my launching ability made it tough for him to recover back onto solid ground. So with that, I won the third match. [Stage: Smashville]

- One word: EPIC
Tritoch used Zelda one last time while went back to Yoshi. We actually ended up using our 8 minutes and stalemating with one stock one each. So we had ourselves a sudden death! I think I only came out on top because the bob-bomb that literally appeared out of no where hit Tri first, which sent him flying just a little further than me XD. Holy crap, nice finish though.
So I won 3 - 1 against Tritoch =D [Stage: Temple (melee)]

Miles, you're next :3:

The_Griffin Mar 31, 2008 05:48 PM

Lukage and I will be starting our match in a few minutes; 6 PM CST (4 PM PST).

EDIT: Correction, 7 PM CST.

Wall Feces Mar 31, 2008 06:39 PM

I will not be working late tonight, so nutty and I will be brawling around 10PM EST.

Lukage Mar 31, 2008 07:31 PM

wow, total bullshit, hammer assist, hammer assist, hammer assist, hammer assist

Up 2-1 and ugh he got to pick all the stages, lame.

The_Griffin Mar 31, 2008 07:33 PM

Yeeeah, our matches were more or less the reason why items are banned in most SSB tourneys. Good matches though.

EDIT: By the way, I won. I seriously shouldn't have, but I did.

Lukage Mar 31, 2008 07:33 PM

No really, every smash ball was a one-hit break for him as Luigi, so fucking lame.

Oh shit, no wonder, the items were set on HIGH for some reason.

The_Griffin Mar 31, 2008 07:41 PM

I actually only had one single-hit break, but even that had me blinking while I frantically mashed my B button for ZA WARUDO TIME.

I gotta say, though... this tournament is really making me rethink my stance on tourneyfags banning all sorts of shit. I cheaped out Lukage on Green Hill Zone by throwing him off by the edge of the screen at like 30-40%, we both abused Final Smashes like utter MOFOS, and Superspicy Curry + Hammer + Me getting pushed off the edge trying to dodge both and being juggled by the curry = RAGE.

The Plane Is A Tiger Mar 31, 2008 07:45 PM

Come now, Lukage. Channel that rage towards your upcoming battle against me!

Chaotic Mar 31, 2008 07:48 PM

Griff, Lukage, what was the total score? 3-1?

I'm keeping record of all the stats for this tournament.

The_Griffin Mar 31, 2008 07:51 PM

It was 3-2, IIRC.

Lukage Mar 31, 2008 07:53 PM

32% throw, but yeah, my Kirby won in part due to Up-B'ing the smash ball for multiple hits.

Freelance Mar 31, 2008 08:08 PM

Okay, Nex and I will be starting our game NAO.

Thank you.

Update:

Well that was a total embarrassment. Nex won by a landslide. I fell off the stage accidently(sp?) several times and I apparently just SUCK 1 on 1. Back to group battles for me >_>

Nexius Mar 31, 2008 08:26 PM

Yup... 3-0. You -did- kill yourself a bunch man. Gotta stop doing that =P

Chaotic Mar 31, 2008 08:33 PM

Brackets and such updated.

Hopefully Turbo/Krel and Acer/Ihopz could get their matches going soon. I'm aware of Acer's crappy university connection, but I haven't heard a thing from Turbo or Krel. o_o

Wall Feces Mar 31, 2008 09:33 PM

I beat nutty 3-0. Good matches, but definitely a blowout of sorts ;)

Chaotic Mar 31, 2008 09:55 PM

This has been brought to my attention several times and I thought I should address it.

In the rules, it calls for 4 stock, 8 minutes. The only way to possibly do both is to access the More Rules section in the Rules. To unlock More Rules, you must 200 KOs in standard Brawl.

I'm aware that some people don't have that option available yet. So if that's the case, doing a 4 stock match is perfectly fine with me.

SuperSonic Mar 31, 2008 10:17 PM

Basil and I will be having our match shortly.

Edit: BEST online match I've had to date. Basil won one, I won one, Basil won another, I won another...it came down to the last stock literally and whoever got that smash ball would win. Basil got it, but DAMN was it close.

Basil wins 3-2, GG.

No idea what the lag was about in the beginning, but everything started going smoothly after it passed.

Basil Mar 31, 2008 11:02 PM

The lag was my fault, and I apologize. Someone was downloading from my FTP and I couldn't turn it off right that instant - my cousin was on there but apparently he can't find the icon for Bulletproof FTP even though it's on the taskbar on the bottom right corner. >_>

GREAT matches, however. At least you weren't Sonic the WHOLE time :tpg:

SuperSonic Mar 31, 2008 11:04 PM

Hey! I can use more than one character! I guess my ego got in the way...I started with Sonic, I figured I'd end with Sonic. No worries about the lag, this is all in good fun. ^_^

Kairyu Apr 1, 2008 12:10 AM

Sorry for not getting any matches done today, Chaotic D:
Miles has a busy schedule so at best we'll probably start our match tomorrow in the late afternoon, Hawaii standard time.

Chaotic Apr 1, 2008 12:51 AM

Not a problem, Kai.

I'm just more concerned about Turbo/Krel and Ihopz/Acer as I mentioned before. Hopefully they'll get it done sometime during the week. >.<

Slash Apr 1, 2008 01:07 AM

Will there be an automatically double DQ if they don't? lol

Chaotic Apr 1, 2008 01:16 AM

I'm sure Ihopz wouldn't wanna go down without a fight, but I at least need to hear something on their situation before I do something that drastic.

All else fails, I advance one of them and then default them until they're eliminated from contention.

Buizel Apr 1, 2008 02:25 AM

Funny that my brother and I are waiting for our turn to come but there's somthing stalling them... Did you do this on purpose so we can't win?!? lol

Anyway, I PMed Acer and he's trying to fix his problem today (Tuesday) so he and my brother can get their match going. If not he said he'll give a pass for my brother to advance. >_>

And I'm just sitting here waiting for my turn! :p

Chaotic Apr 2, 2008 02:41 PM

Now that April Fool's Day has passed, hopefully we can get the matches back on track.

Griff, PM me when you're free to battle.

Black Mage Apr 2, 2008 07:39 PM

Just checking in. Waiting on BigCN401's match, who is waiting on Turbo vs. KrelEN.

Unfortunately I'll be out of town Friday night, Saturday, and most of Sunday. I'll be getting back Sunday afternoon/evening, and if the match ups are ready by Friday, I may be able to get in the matches 5-6pm EST on Friday before I leave. Otherwise I'll be free Sunday night and the rest of the week as per usual.

Has anyone heard from Turbo or KrelEN? I would prefer not to hold everyone up this weekend, so if we can get a few matches out of the way before I leave, that'd be great.

Chaotic Apr 2, 2008 07:46 PM

Krel mentioned that he would try and see if he could battle Turbo, but other than that, I haven't heard anything else going on... I'll probably give Turbo and Acer a PM about their battles though.

Wall Feces Apr 2, 2008 07:59 PM

Might as well mention that I too will be out of town from Friday to Sunday.

Miles Apr 2, 2008 07:59 PM

Sorry, Kai. Stuff keeps coming up so I haven't been able to play Brawl. I will try to do this match with you tomorrow. If not, Friday for sure. I'm meeting up with Stop Sign that day and playing Brawl that evening anway. If you don't want to wait that long you can go ahead and pass me with a win. Though I'd say the longer the better for you since I'll probably be rusty at it by then. >_>

The_Griffin Apr 2, 2008 08:54 PM

Unfortunately, Chaotic, our match will have to wait a short while. My hard drive's about to die (it blue-screened on me twice in 5 minutes with related errors and failed to even FINISH chkdsk twice in a row), and I'm shopping around for a new one. Meaning I won't be with a computer for about a week, maybe more.

If I'm not back up by next Friday I'll nick my mom's laptop and set up a match that way.

On the bright side, you can practice your ZA WARUDO dodging. :p

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Apr 3, 2008 01:20 AM

I'm checking in as well, since matches are still in a lull. Still waiting on BigCN's brother's match with Acer, so one of you two inform me when it's all said and done.

Buizel Apr 3, 2008 02:03 AM

I PMed Acer again to see what he's doing in his situation.

I tried contacting him via AIM but the only response I get from him is lol... LOL.

Slicky Apr 5, 2008 11:45 AM

Just a heads up, my internet is down while they do some upgrade repairs, although they said didn't say for how long, I would guess a week or so. Sorry about this but I would have to pull out of the tournament, and possibly for the 2v2, since I'm using the laptops wifi, can't really connect for the wii.

Chaotic Apr 5, 2008 10:42 PM

Alright, Krel and Acer have both PMed me and have both dropped out to prevent the tournament from being held up.

As a result, this moves Freelance Wolf and Slicky into the second round of the Loser's Bracket automatically.

The new bracket is posted up along with the current matches.

Lukage Apr 5, 2008 10:50 PM

Me and Tritoch 1PM Central time tomorrow afternoon.

The Plane Is A Tiger Apr 5, 2008 11:05 PM

Catch me on AIM in case I forget. I was already thinking we were doing it that night after I get home from work, but I'll be home with AIM on all afternoon.

Buizel Apr 6, 2008 12:11 PM

Aww, that sucks. :(
Oh well... Guess I'll go PM Turbo and GB to schedule a time for the both of us.

Lukage Apr 6, 2008 01:27 PM

A little delay, Tritoch and I are under way in a few minutes.

Additional Spam:
Fucking bullshit HEAVY Zelda can't get KO'ed by a throw at 150% but Ganondorf can. Okay. 3-0 loss.

EDIT: I still fucking hate items.

The Plane Is A Tiger Apr 6, 2008 02:07 PM

Announcing my victory over Lukage 3-0! Looks like I'll be seeing you soon, Basil.

First match: Marth (me) vs. Kirby (Lukage)
Stage: Final Destination

Pretty even match decided by items. We each had a soccer ball KO and I killed him with the Dragoon not 10 seconds after he'd respawned. Didn't even think I hit him, but apparently I did.

Second match: Zelda (me) vs. Ganondorf (Lukage)
Stage: Final Destination

Ganon was a bit too slow of a character, though his Smash certainly hurts like hell. So does Zelda's, though. =D

Third match: Ness (me) vs. Peach (Lukage)
Stage: Bridge of Eldin

His Peach was pretty evil with all the damage reflecting, and he did a great job evading me for most of the battle. He got something like 3 Smash balls too, though I don't think I died from any of them. He dodged every one of Ness' Smash lightnings too, so it was very much a battle of ineffective balls. Lukage dominated mostly, but it evened out at the end and I barely won.

Good fights overall, though like I said, the first one was all about the items.

Lukage Apr 6, 2008 02:20 PM

What? I got one smash ball, and it HEALS me...

The Plane Is A Tiger Apr 6, 2008 02:24 PM

Yeah, but it also puts every enemy to sleep. Prime smash attack opportunities, and I know you had at least two.

Lukage Apr 6, 2008 02:27 PM

One that I got where you hit me out of the stage before I hit the ground. But yeah, fear the 75% damage throws (well, for your characters there's nothing to fear). Tritoch claimed to get two smashes on me. In total.

I think I had 20 per match. :\

Buizel Apr 6, 2008 02:46 PM

Okay, my brother and GB are going to have their match right now (3:45 PM EST). DO NOT ENTER! lol

UPDATE: 3-0
Do I need to say who won? lol >_>

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Apr 6, 2008 03:12 PM

Well, that was a fun asswhooping. After some technical difficulties, I got stomped 3-0. The first match was totally ruined by input latency (I haven't played online for a while) and the other matches were just me being outclassed.

I'm sure CN's bro is laughing it up.

Buizel Apr 6, 2008 03:15 PM

For some reason I think the LAN adapter I bought didn't make any difference or maybe a bit worst. I should put it to more test to see if wireless or LAN is any better.

Anyway, my brother said great match and that he couldn't help it when the paper fan drop in. :tpg:

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Apr 6, 2008 03:50 PM

No, the match's lag was certainly manageable for most players, I just couldn't get used to it in time to make any real difference (so, it was ruined by my own inflexibility). I should have practiced online rather than off.

Chaotic Apr 6, 2008 06:55 PM

Brackets and Current Matches updated.

Kai, Miles... What's going on with your match?

Buizel Apr 6, 2008 07:24 PM

Turbo and I are going to have our match right now (8:24 PM EST). kthx

Update 1-3... What? You're surprise? XP
I'll have to say half of the reason why I lost is because of my stupidity by touching that spiky ball thing which knocked me out... and stupid giant Lucario. :tpg:

Chaotic Apr 6, 2008 07:59 PM

Heh. Giant Lucario. :333:

Brackets and Current matches updated.

Turbo Apr 6, 2008 08:04 PM

T'was great fun :D I was kinda lucky in all games though. Got my ass handed to me as link and him pikachu. On temple no less.

It's all Miles' fault, because he bobos on everything :tpg:

Chaotic Apr 6, 2008 08:45 PM

Whoops, completely missed their posts. Neither of them PMed me either.

Anyway, Brackets and Current Matches updated again.

Black Mage Apr 6, 2008 08:54 PM

Turbo and I are about to start our matches. (10pm EST)

Update: Turbo and I have finished. 3-0, but Turbo played a mean Link. Great games Turbo, and good luck!

I didn't realize we were supposed to PM you the results in addition to posting. Sorry about that!

Miles Apr 6, 2008 10:54 PM

Kairyu is puling the bobo now. I was ready to fight and beat him, burnt thumb and all! But now his cable modem is goofing up his connection so we'll have to try again on Tuesday. That's if my Tuesday evening is free.

Seriously though, if I can't fight him on Tuesday I'll just go ahead and drop out of the tournament. I shouldn't be in it if I can only really fight on the weekends anyway.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Apr 6, 2008 11:22 PM

Most of us have class and/or work, so only being available on the weekends isn't exactly a big deal. A lot of us have that kind of availability (or lack thereof).

Chaotic Apr 6, 2008 11:53 PM

Yeah, so don't worry about it, Miles. I anticipated it being this long anyway.

I'll probably only be able to fight on the weekends also since I have class also.

Nexius Apr 7, 2008 07:47 PM

Alright, time to see just how mean Ihopz really is =x

We're having our match now.

Hoooly crap. Ihopz plays the meanest Ness I've seen in my life... But, 3-2. Nex wins.

Buizel Apr 7, 2008 08:23 PM

Heh. My bother was pissed off because he said his match was really lagging and the Hanabow Stage (however you spell it) screwed him over...twice. The one second delay didn't help him recover quickly enough. Oh well.

Nexius Apr 7, 2008 08:28 PM

I was experiencing the same lag, about a one second delay. Made countering his Ness freakin' hard =x

But yeah... Once Hanenbow screwed him over once, I knew I had to pick it again. Gotta love stages that people don't play much.

Ah well, I have a feeling I'll have to face him again otherwise at the end of the loser bracket or the winner's =P

The Plane Is A Tiger Apr 7, 2008 08:35 PM

Oh crap, here I was already counting on Nexius to be my next opponent after Basil. I didn't expect to meet Ihopz so soon.

Buizel Apr 7, 2008 10:04 PM

Oh we play Hanenbow plenty of times but the lag really killed for any recovering moves. That's why we tend to say away from that stage IF there's lag when playing online. :/

Chaotic Apr 7, 2008 10:23 PM

Le gasp!

Brackets and Current Matches updated.

Basil Apr 8, 2008 06:04 PM

Tritoch and I will be doing our Brawl right now.

Edit: 3-1. And yeah, that third match on Pokemon Stadium 2 with me as Yoshi and you as Mario was weird. Maybe Yoshi just kicks ass. :3

The Plane Is A Tiger Apr 8, 2008 06:50 PM

Alas, I am undone! Basil gave me a sound thrashing, 3-1. I would type up a more detailed description of them, but there's a cat in my chair and I can't stay in this position much longer.

Needless to say, I gave an incredibly terrible performance as Mario vs. Yoshi.

Chaotic Apr 8, 2008 07:28 PM

Basil, good luck in the next round. You're gonna need it. :tpg:

Brackets and Current Matches updated.

Nexius Apr 8, 2008 08:21 PM

Black Mage and I will be having our match now.

Bah, beaten. 3-1. Hate Zelda on Final Destination =x

Chaotic Apr 8, 2008 08:54 PM

And Black Mage has advanced to the Finals of the Winner's Bracket! Congrats! :3:

Brackets updated.

nazpyro Apr 8, 2008 09:15 PM

BigCN and naz about to get our brawl on. Results in a bit. ;_;

Additional Spam:
BigCN wins 3-0. GG man.

Oh, and I guess summary:

Game 1: Yoshi pwns Wario hard.

Game 2: Mr. G&W and Pikachu in a close one on DK's scrolling stage. (That was madness.) Decided by final smash ball. =p

Game 3: Kirby owned by Star Fox ships. ;_;

Looking forward to the 2v2!

Buizel Apr 8, 2008 09:41 PM

Yeah, it was a great game. The DK scrolling stage had me pumping up and trying to stay alive. And I also tried to be careful not to make a stupid mistake... at least that spiky ball thing didn't show up. lol

Major apologies again. Me and Miles were supposed to schedule our match earlier today. But apparently as I got home he had to go out (to class I assume.)
I'll try to coax him into fighting me anyway if and when he gets back xD.
I certainly don't want to throw in the towel just yet! I want to personally destroy his Landmasters™!

Miles Apr 9, 2008 08:56 AM

I was home for like 3 or 4 hours waiting for you and you didn't show up. We can't do anything if you keep trying to hide from my landmaster. :3:

Chaotic Apr 11, 2008 03:59 PM

Just so this thread doesn't die for 3 days, Me and Griff will have our battle sometime on Sunday, most likely sometime in the evening EST.

I understand he has computer problems and I just have a lot of crap to do, so sorry for stalling so much on the bottom half of the brackets.

Miles, Kai, anything yet?

Kairyu Apr 11, 2008 05:19 PM

There's no point in hiding if your Landmasters are not going to drive themselves (...into a pit.)

You really need to give me some kind of time frame to work with, maaaaaaan. If I knew then I would've got my ass home much earlier from class.

Nothing yet Chaotic :(
Though, I did drop a couple messages to him just now.

Freelance Apr 12, 2008 10:49 AM

GB and I are going to battle now, or very soon. Watch me lose :3

Update: Ah I lost all 3 rounds. Still, I did better now than I did with Nex. The damn pirate ship killed me several times due to er, environmental damage >_< Ah well.

I'm still online so anyone wanna battle with me?

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Apr 12, 2008 11:04 AM

I just had a lot of practice last night, so I think I was probably a bit more loosened up than you, Wolf. Great matches, and we can play more right now, if you want.

As far as the official match went, Chaotic, I won 3-0.

Chaotic Apr 12, 2008 12:55 PM

Alrighty, brackets are now updated. Nothing new.

We gotta get the Winner's Bracket moving.

Basil Apr 12, 2008 01:43 PM

Chaotic, you might want to remove Tritoch vs. Lukage out of the current matches listing, that was done ages ago.

And BigCN, how's your brother feel about versing against me? I hope he'll be willing to play.

Kairyu Apr 12, 2008 03:46 PM

Awesome.
I will be fighting Miles in a minute. So do not enter unless you're Miles or one of his many Landmasters.

edit:

Holy Jesus, I'm rusty for not playing all week. I lose 3 - 1. I will edit in a more detailed response later. Off to the losers bracket I go!

Ok, so it went something like this.

1. Port Town, Aero Dive
Mood: Comedy hour
I was Kirby and he was Pikachu. We were trading stock pretty much the entire time, it could've went into sudden death if we weren't fiddling with the items so much! Though, I'm not sure how I managed to get hit by each and every one of his thunder attacks-- but it was hilarious anyway. I got my revenge by luring him into oncoming traffic. It was a miracle I even won that one.

2. Castle Seige
Mood: Serious Landmaster is serious
I guess Miles decided to get serious after seeing that clown of a match. This time I went with Pikachu (goggle mode) he, of course, went with Mr. Landmaster lovin' Fox McCloud. I was pretty much dominating him all the way down to his last stock until I got utterly owned by not one, but two Landmasters. I cried. Then moved on.

3. Hanebow
Mood: WHAT HAVE I DONE
I picked Samus, Miles picked... ugh Luigi. After my plan of surprising Miles with the Hanebow stage failed (Samus' missiles and cannon shots are USELESS there) I ducked and tried to fight him in Hand-to-hand combat. Knowing that he picked Luigi didn't help either. Long story short, I got smashed by his final smash + up B move over and over again.

4. Shadow Moses Island
Mood: Jumpy
With all my plans foiled I had to go with my (arguably) best character, Toon Link. Miles probably sensing this picks Marth. The sword match was pretty intense actually. I got him with my final smash at least once. While he tried to hit me with his final smash twice but I dodged both and he flew off losing some stock. Things were looking good for me as I had almost no problem jumping on his head and avoiding most of his attacks. But he landed some fancy hits and I made the biggest mistake of playing around. PLAYING, WHY DID I DO THAT? Arrgh, so he wins~

Good job Miles. Let's see if you can do that again in the losers bracket :gonk:.

Miles Apr 12, 2008 04:18 PM

Won 3-1. That was pretty fun. I tried to use fox only for 1 match and Kai was beating my ass for awhile, but towards the end I got really lucky and Landmaster owned him. :3:

Not looking forward to the lagfest with Icy. ;_;

Wall Feces Apr 12, 2008 04:20 PM

It's not the lag I would worry about, Miles. It's the SHEER SKILL that sonova bitch has.

Identity Crisis Apr 12, 2008 04:23 PM

Sorry I had to cut off our game, Wolf, but Miles is online. We have to start our tourney match.

Regarding my connection, it has been better over the past week, so the lag shouldn't be as bad as it usually is. Hopefully. :(

Anyway, I'm online right now.

Miles Apr 12, 2008 04:24 PM

Every game I've played with him had the game running at 5fps. I can't measure any skill when the game consists of major lag.

Ok, I guess it takes skill to play a fighting game running at that speed. Either way I can't use my skills all that well when the game runs that slow. Especially with fast characters like fox!

Either way I'll be seeing you in the loser brackets soon, kai!

Wall Feces Apr 12, 2008 04:27 PM

His lag wasn't too bad when I played him a while ago, so if he says its better, it should (hopefully) be fairly decent. Regardless, you're both in the same boat in terms with dealing with the shit frame rate, unless he finds a way to practice at 5fps =P

Miles Apr 12, 2008 04:56 PM

He won 3-1. The lag wasn't as bad as it was with him before but it still made it a bit hard to fight. It doesn't help when the game pauses when I'm trying to do a save or when he's beating on you or ready to throw a fully charged smash attack at you and the game continually stops before you can do anything to dodge it. But either way it was pretty fun. He's pretty damn good. I just think I could have done better if it was as smooth as the matches I have against other people.

Buizel Apr 12, 2008 10:09 PM

Sigh. I talked to him a moment ago and to make things short as I don't want to repeat what we said nor do you guys want to hear our "discussion", his answer is no. So Basil you got a free pass.

He's dropping on the 2v2 too so it looks like I will need a new partner or I'll have to drop out too. :(
Somebody with a 360 and CoD4 go kick his ass in that game. His gametag is Snapplz.

Chaotic Apr 12, 2008 10:35 PM

Great. But did I miss something regarding Ihopz? o_o

And no one sends me PMs anymore. Makes me a sad panda. :(

Brackets will be updated soon.

Buizel Apr 12, 2008 11:26 PM

Don't worry about it Chaotic. You didn't missed much. My brother just drop out. Update the brackets. Sorry I didn't PM you about it.

*hands over some bamboo to sad panda* >_>

Yeah, I read that. But it seems like there was some other underlying reason for it, which I'm interested in, but if you don't wanna tell me, that's fine.

Basil Apr 13, 2008 01:00 AM

Well, that sucks. ;_; I would have loved to battle against someone as challenging as your brother; could have made some decent practice for a battle against Icy (that is, if I didn't get my ass kicked by him). Ah well.

Chaotic Apr 14, 2008 07:00 PM

Me and Griff will (finally) battle in a couple minutes. Expect results within the hour.

The_Griffin Apr 14, 2008 07:27 PM

After the most GIGANTIC round of fucking BULLSHIT I have EVER seen, Chaotic beat me 3-1.

Our match is THE reason why tourneyfags ban items and stages. First round, a hammer kills me at 30%. Second round, Chaotic gets offed by suicides on Rainbow Cruise. Third stage, I fuck up with Lucas. Fourth stage, he gets two-three fucking final smashes, a timer, and a bloody mushroom that he kills me with.

Chaotic Apr 14, 2008 07:29 PM

If anyone is in agreement, banned stages and items off for the clans? :tpg:

I honestly think items and certain stages cheapen up gameplay also. For the clans, I'd rather it come down to skill than the items determining the match.

Still though, Griff. Good match. :)

The_Griffin Apr 14, 2008 07:30 PM

You would think it's a good match. You got all but one of the smash balls and beat me 3-1 after all. :p

I have NO idea WHY I chose Diddy Kong in the first round, though. I only really picked him up last night, and I was still trying to master his final smash and recovery.

Bah. -.-;

Slash Apr 14, 2008 07:38 PM

Griff...im confused...what happened to Luigi?

Chaotic Apr 14, 2008 07:38 PM

Don't worry about it though, Griff. You still have another chance to win in the loser's brackets.

Brackets and current matches will be updated soon.

The_Griffin Apr 14, 2008 08:06 PM

I decided to try and mix it up, Slash. I don't want to be just a one-trick pony.

Only problem is... the first match I picked Luigi Chaotic suicided twice, and the second time he got ALL of the smash balls (and timers, and maximum tomatoes, and hammers...).

So yeah. I'm stating it for prosterity's sake: I ain't competing in another tourney unless there are no items.

Slash Apr 14, 2008 08:08 PM

LoL..this coming from Mr. I get smash ball from drilldozer girl :-p

Chaotic Apr 14, 2008 08:17 PM

Anyway, just did my match against Identity Crisis. Got whooped 0-3. :tpg:

See you in the Loser's Bracket, Griff!

SuperSonic Apr 14, 2008 08:21 PM

I got destroyed in two rounds and you don't hear me complaining. I'd look forward to another 1v1 tourney if it was done the way this one is being done.

Would you at least consider keeping smash balls on? ^_^'

Chaotic Apr 14, 2008 08:26 PM

It's a possibility. I know you use Sonic pretty often, and he can't KO well without it.

But if I do keep it on, Kai will complain about Landmasters again! :tpg:

I'll think about it though. There's a 60% chance it's gonna be all items off, but I gotta weigh the pros and cons about it and stuff.

And Griff, I take it you're withdrawing from the 2v2 Tournament also?

Brackets and Current Matches updated. We're at the Finals for the Winner's Bracket!

Slash Apr 14, 2008 08:53 PM

I remember reading a few posts that slicky wanted to withdraw..at least thats what I though i saw

Identity Crisis Apr 14, 2008 09:22 PM

Black Mage and I are doing our match right now. Do not disturb, etc.

Chaotic Apr 14, 2008 09:23 PM

Don't forget it's a first to five match!

Identity Crisis Apr 14, 2008 10:12 PM

Well, I think I just got served some humble pie! Good games! =P

I lost 3-5.

Time to do some more training while I wait in the Loser's Bracket. Mwahaha.

Black Mage Apr 14, 2008 10:13 PM

Well, holy cow IC. Those were some pretty damn intense matches. I feel kind of bad for sticking to Zelda for the majority of them, but ah well. Thanks for the great set!

Close games all around, and tons of items all over the place. Good luck and I look forward to facing you again!

Chaotic Apr 14, 2008 10:28 PM

And Black Mage is the winner of the Winner's Bracket and has advanced to Final Destination to compete for the championship. Congrats!

Now we just need to finish up the Loser's Bracket and we can conclude the 1v1 Tournament. :3:

Brackets updated.

The_Griffin Apr 14, 2008 11:58 PM

Eh... yeah, I'm withdrawing from the 2v2. I'd complete it (hey, I signed up for it, after all), but the simple fact is that I am CRAZILY busy with school. It's hard enough keeping up with homework and reading (I'm completely neglecting one of my classes as it is in favor of the other two as it is) without trying to squeeze in matches for 2v2, no matter how short.

Chaotic Apr 15, 2008 01:01 AM

Hmm... Will you reconsider if I move the 2v2 Tourney Start date? My semester fully ends on May 12th, and beforehand, I'll probably be studying like crazy prior to that date to avoid failing any of my finals.

So if starting sometime Mid-May works for people, the 2v2 Tournament will start then. Once that's done, we'll run sign-ups for clans. To balance everything out, I figured this would be a good idea. We'll run it like tennis matches. :D

Depending on what the clan limit is going to be (either 5 or 7 members to each clan), there will be three 1v1 matches and one or two 2v2 matches.

Chaotic Apr 17, 2008 09:44 AM

So two day gap, three matches in the Loser's Bracket are up.

Any news on them people?

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Apr 17, 2008 10:04 AM

No, but I'll PM Griffin when I'm back from class.

Buizel Apr 17, 2008 11:21 AM

Does Slicky still have some internet problem or something? Eh, I'll go PM him to see what's up.

Chaotic Apr 17, 2008 12:18 PM

Well, his last post did mention Internet problems for a unknown amount of time. His last log-in was on the 5th also.

If nothing happens by this Saturday (which would be two weeks since his last bit of activity), then I'll KO him out the tournament since he said he'd possibly have to drop anyway.

The_Griffin Apr 17, 2008 06:06 PM

GBass: Our match will have to wait. My computer problems came to a head, and to make a long story short, I'm posting from my sister's iBook (in Seattle, a 30-minute drive), and my computer's in the shop until Tuesday.

If it's much longer than that, I'll just drop out of the tourney. I don't want to hold up the progression any more than I already have.

Slicky Apr 17, 2008 09:16 PM

They finally finished whatever the hell they were doing so my internet is back up, already replied to BigCn so might do the match over the weekend if it's ok.

Chaotic Apr 17, 2008 09:28 PM

Gotcha.

Take your time, people. I have a hectic few weeks myself for classes. So I finally won't be fully free until May 12th.

Not really, I did message Slash a few days ago though. He's busy with other things right now but with good reason.

Jesus, I've been neglecting my Brawling lately. If anyone wants to do some practice matches just PM me. Please :tpg:

The Plane Is A Tiger Apr 18, 2008 12:49 AM

I'm getting on Brawl now, if you're still around for some matches.

Chaotic Apr 18, 2008 12:56 AM

I'll jump on for some Brawlin'. :3:

The Plane Is A Tiger Apr 18, 2008 01:27 AM

Hurray, first match I was going to lose tonight and someone's connection exploded! Thank you, Nintendo, for such a quality online service that predicts when it can save me from the agony of losing.

Connections seem pretty sketchy tonight, but at least we're not moving at 2fps.

Chaotic Apr 18, 2008 01:34 AM

And I was doing well with Wolf on Corneria. ;_;

Matches were fun. Well, what we had of them. o_o

Kai, our last Snake vs. Mario one took forever. :tpg:

Bah! Oh well, I'm glad to see Yoshi remains undefeated. The connection could have been better, at least we got in a good bunch of matches.

More like Fireball missile fest :tpg:
Good game though, I can't believe I let myself get juggled by your grenades like that!

The Plane Is A Tiger Apr 18, 2008 02:22 AM

Yeah, I hate fighting against Yoshi. It was lucky for me when they nerfed him in Melee, but now he's got his power back. Those were some great matches though, especially the Marth vs. Pit at the end. That Bo-bomb I got was so lucky.

Chaotic Apr 18, 2008 02:42 AM

He just lacks that double-jump cancel he had in Melee.

Fox eats yoshies for breakfast.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Apr 18, 2008 11:13 AM

This actually isn't a bad idea. While we wait for everyone who's decommissioned for the time being, why don't we hold mock battles to maintain interest for the rest of us? I really want to see this tournament finish with most everyone staying in until the end.

Buizel Apr 18, 2008 01:40 PM

Boo to all of you. I always go online everynight but you guys aren't online. When I pop in another game you guys decided to play! :(/:p

Yoshi is gonna kick your ass next time! lol

Identity Crisis Apr 18, 2008 01:45 PM

I wouldn't mind the idea of mock battles. I joined mostly to fight against some new people since CPU's at Level 9 are hardly even good practice.

Anyway, I'll be online for roughly the next two hours if anybody wants a mock battle.

The Plane Is A Tiger Apr 18, 2008 02:25 PM

Hurray, I actually managed to beat IC!

...Once. Still, more than I expected. Our last match as Ness vs. ROB was so back and forth, with some stage effect or item keeping us even the whole time. Damn you for pulling out Yoshi at one point, too.

Identity Crisis Apr 18, 2008 02:30 PM

It's like I can't beat Zelda for some strange reason (the reason probably being that I suck with Snake, meh). I can see Din's Fire coming from a mile away quite literally, but I can't dodge it!

That ROB vs. Ness match definitely had a lot more explosives in it than usual. Items were all on at low frequency, so I don't know what happened there.

Yoshi can dodge Samus's final smashes aaaaall day. =D

Buizel Apr 19, 2008 06:08 PM

Slicky and I are going to have our match right now. No peeking. >_>

EDIT: 3-2. I'm finally done. @_@

Match was so epic and lolz at the same time. Stupid mealsitems-box-on-wheels end my tournament. :tpg:

Those matches were so hilarious, really lucked out on the first one. Had horrible luck with the others in terms of items, lol box sliding towards me pushing me off in corneria. It was fun, wasn't really expecting to win too.

You asked and you had received! :tpg:

I don't remember all of our 898796532694 matches but to tell you the truth, most of the time I was just playing around for fun and end up winning. :tpg:
Great game though. :)

Freelance Apr 19, 2008 10:23 PM

Thanks for answering my plea, BigCN! Those matches were fun! I had fun winning the match with Wolf and da LANDMASTA!!! You're still good even if you play for fun! I didn't play too hot as Bowser today though :/

I left to play Octomania with Summonmaster, but we had troubles connecting...

Update: AW CRAP!! Accidently posted in here instead of the general SSBB thread. I AM SO SORRY!!!! :(

Chaotic Apr 20, 2008 03:51 AM

S'all right... Everyone has been doing it anyway.

Brackets and Current Matches updated. Sorry for the delay. I was out all day.

Yay, the thread died again.

Clear!

So what's going on with the matches? Hopefully, we can get this done soon. :X

Sorry, I've been a little bit of an emotional wreck rl so yeah...I might be able to get my match on this sunday.

Current Matches
Slash vs. Kairyu
Generic Badass vs. The_Griffin
Slicky vs. Miles

I've pmed Miles a few days ago about the match, understandable since he's an admin probably got lost in the sea of pm's and busy with stuff.

But a heads up, I'll be travelling overseas in a few days, for a couple of weeks returning on May 9. Unless it's ok to wait out till I get back or things do get moving, then I don't mind booting me off. So I'll be back in time for the 2v2.

Miles Apr 23, 2008 10:34 PM

Can you battle me tomorrow? I don't have class after work.

Slicky Apr 24, 2008 12:38 AM

Ya, that'd be good. Is it ok sometime in the afternoon or evening?

Miles Apr 24, 2008 12:54 AM

It has to be in the evening. I get off work at 5pm west coast time so anytime after then works for me.

Slicky Apr 24, 2008 01:23 AM

Ok, that's good with me, evenings it is.

Doh Miles win 3-0, had a few screw up here and there but it's all good. lol wiimote.

Miles Apr 24, 2008 08:38 PM

I won against Slicky 3-0. We had some fun decent battles though we both were playing pretty defensively. Probably because we never played each other before and didn't know what to expect. He did get to taste my landmaster in the final match. XD

Chaotic Apr 24, 2008 09:48 PM

Alrighty, brackets updated.

Two remaining matches... Urgently, Slash and Kairyu need to get their match done. They're still in the first round of the losers bracket. <_<

We need to get this moving so we can advance with the 2v2 Tournament.

Chaotic Apr 27, 2008 02:42 AM

So I decided I can't wait any longer for this tournament to be stalled. Slash seems to be really distressed as of lately and I don't want him bothered by this tournament... And he didn't respond to my PMs regarding the tournament... So I've decided to drop him from the tournament. Kai, on the other hand, got back to me.

I wanna keep this moving, so I'll have the brackets and current matches updated really soon.

Edit: Brackets and Current Matches updated.

Generic Badass and The_Griffin, what's going on with your match?

Slash Apr 27, 2008 05:24 PM

Wow...did my message get totally missed? ~shrugs~ no big. LoL

Wall Feces Apr 27, 2008 06:38 PM

When do you wanna fight, Kai? I'm good anytime tonight for the next few hours, and then after 9:30 PM M - W. After that my availability will be nill for the weekend.

Kairyu Apr 27, 2008 06:46 PM

D:
You know what, I think he did miss your last reply. But I think he was looking for a response through PM.

Yo Sprout. I'll be available to Brawl in about 40 minutes or so. I'll PM you when I'm ready =D

Wall Feces Apr 27, 2008 06:49 PM

Excellent. Fucking A, I've been waiting so long to Brawl!

Kairyu Apr 27, 2008 07:19 PM

Ok I'm ready! I still see your name as "awaiting to be registered" so make sure you've added my FC. Anyway I'll go ahead and make the room.

Speaking of which, I'm open pretty much all day today until midnight PST.

Well that match finally puts me out of the tournament. Sprout wins 3-1!
That first round bob-omb finish was too awesome :tpg:.

Wall Feces Apr 27, 2008 08:12 PM

Wow, I'd wager to say that this was the absolute finest online Brawl session I've ever had!

I won 3-1, but with the exception of one match (where I destroyed him with Ike), every single fight was epic and ended in a fucking miraculous way.

First fight:
Link (me) vs Young Link (Kai)

Ended with me doing a mid-air Down+A (sword stab) on a pile of bob-ombs instead of Kai, sent us both flying off the screen where I died mere FRAMES before he did. Undoubtedly the coolest finish to a match I've ever encountered.

Winner: Kai

Second fight:
Ike vs. Kirby

Not much to say here, it was a horrorshow for Kai though ;)

Winner: Me

Third fight:
Snake vs. Yoshi

Ugh, I HATE the glacier level... We played a fairly even match... and then suddenly, THAT FUCKING FISH gulped us both, sending us into sudden death! A carefully placed mortar (up+A) finished it in my favor. It was fucking tense though! And so many smash balls!

Winner: Me

Fourth Fight:
Meta Knight vs Link

This was just an all-out great match, with nothing out of the ordinary. I came out on top in a real tight finish.

Great games, dude. We definitely need to play again sometime soon!

Turbo - See my above post for my availability. But, for the sake of easiness, here it is again-

Anytime after 9:30 PM Mon-Weds. After that, I won't be available again till next Sunday.

Update - I win, 3-0

First match: Link vs Link

Great match, Turbo came from a 1 to 3 deficit to even the playing field, but I came out on top afterwards.

Winner: Me

Second match: Ike (me) vs Fox (Turbo)

I thought I was screwed in this match because of how fast Fox is compared to Ike, but Ike's heavy sword made fox steaks out of Fox ;)

Winner: Me

Third match: Snake vs Lucario

A pretty solid match with nothing out of the ordinary to report.

Winner: Me

Is anybody else having problems trying to connect online? I was thinking my IP address might have changed at first but now I'm guessing it's because of Mario Kart Wii. I had to retry about a dozen times before I finally got in. Nintendo seriously needs larger servers.

Edit: ...and now I'm disconnected again. Great.

Wall Feces Apr 30, 2008 05:45 PM

If this is your way of stalling our upcoming match, I'm not impressed ;)

Is 10:00 PM good for you (if you can connect)?

Basil Apr 30, 2008 05:49 PM

Well I think the connection works now, it was just a bit iffy before.

Yeah, I can battle whenever. :)

Additional Spam:
sprout and I are doing our match now. And there's lag too. :L

Wall Feces Apr 30, 2008 09:30 PM

Basil just made a mockery out of me, 3-0.

First match: Link (me) vs Kirby (Basil)

Great matchup, came down to one life for each, but he managed to close it

Second match: Ike vs Marth

We actually had to restart this match, because Shadow the Hedgehog killed our match by making the lag unbearable enough for the game to say "sorry lost host lolz"

Regardless, after we re-started, he promptly destroyed me

Third match: Snake vs Yoshi

Nothing to report. Got humiliated.

Good match!

Basil Apr 30, 2008 09:36 PM

Jesus Christ, I practically murdered you in those last two matches. ;_; I blame it on the lag and I gotta find a way to fix that.

I won 3-0. Breakdown of the matches:

First match: I was Kirby, sprout was Link. Stage was Pirate Ship. Nothing special happened here.

Second match: I was Marth, sprout was Ike. Stage was Luigi's Mansion. I ended up getting two Smash Balls and executing them horribly, facing the wrong direction both times :tpg: And once I got the Shadow assist trophy, the game lagged and we were disconnected.

Second Match, Part Deux: Same characters and stage. I practically murdered sprout there, and at one point he was at two lives and I was still on four lives, with 15% damage. I ended up losing a life near the end though.

Third Match: I was Yoshi, sprout was Snake. Stage was Mario Bros. Apparently Snake can't defend Yoshi's side+B attack~ and the whole time we were practically tossing Koopas at each other. And I executed the Dragoon on him to seal the deal.

I... hope I'm not sounding narcissistic at all. Why do I worry about that. ._.

sprout, if you thought those matches were a bit unfair because of the lag then I wouldn't mind restarting the entire thing later on, once I find out what's causing it all. That was almost too easy and I don't know how I can play even with the lag going on.

Wall Feces Apr 30, 2008 09:48 PM

I wouldn't argue with a rematch if you're proposing one. The lag wasn't as bad as it was when I had my first match against Identity Crisis, but it definitely got in the way a few times (once when I clearly should have saved myself during our second match part deux).

It's up to you mang. Let me know, I'm down if you are.

Basil Apr 30, 2008 09:59 PM

Nah, you're the one that lost, so I'll leave the decision to you. I don't care either way.

Then again I'm probably just a bit too concerned over what the other guy feels.

Wall Feces May 1, 2008 12:08 AM

Haha, I'll feel like a butt for saying yes, then again I would love another go at it.

Chaotic, what do you think, seeing as you're the dude who's running this? I won't be able to get on again till Sunday anyhow, so there's no rush if we do decide to go for a rematch.

Chaotic May 1, 2008 12:13 AM

I can definitely wait. So go ahead with your rematch.

I'll be busy all of the 4th anyway, out having my birthday lunch somewhere with my family, and all night I'll be busy studying for finals.

Wall Feces May 1, 2008 12:15 AM

All right then, let's do it. Tentative re-brawl date for Sunday night. Does that work for you, Basil?

Miles May 1, 2008 12:34 AM

Generic Badass vs. The_Griffin

GO GO GO!

Basil May 1, 2008 12:59 AM

Yeah, Sunday works... I hope. I don't think I've got any assignments/exams due for Monday. In the meantime I'll chat with Kairyu about this lag.

Identity Crisis May 1, 2008 08:25 PM

If anybody is still willing to do a mock battle, I'll be available for the rest of the night. Getting some practice in would be nice. Besides, Classic Mode and its infinite Dragoon Pieces are making me a wee bit frustrated. >=U

Black Mage May 1, 2008 08:32 PM

I'd definitely be willing to play a few tonight. I haven't had a chance to play since my last tournament round, and I don't want to get rusty, hah hah.

I'll pop on and see if you're there, IC.

SuperSonic May 1, 2008 08:34 PM

I'm waiting for the hockey game to finish, but afterwards I'll probably hop on and play a few if I see you guys on.

Edit: You guys must stay up too late for me or something because I haven't seen anyone on. I'm calling it a night, you guys have fun. XD

Wait a minute. You haven't seen anyone on, either? I seem to be experiencing the same problem. I can log into the main lobby just fine, but the lobby is absolutely barren. I couldn't even see Black Mage when he was logged on.

Feh, must be an issue on Nintendo's side again. I've tried just about everything to fix this problem on my end. =/

Chaotic May 3, 2008 11:15 AM

Well this has been a long ass wait.

Griff, Generic. What is going on with your match?

If nothing happens by tomorrow, I'm gonna randomly advance one of you and drop one of you. The wait time for this match is taking forever.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen May 3, 2008 11:51 AM

I haven't heard from him since, so I'll shoot another PM today to see if he's available for an immediate match.

The_Griffin May 3, 2008 02:19 PM

I'm out of town until Sunday evening attending a cousin's wedding. I'll drop out of the tourney. No point in continuing when all I've been doing is holding up the damn thing =\

Chaotic May 3, 2008 02:52 PM

Gotcha. Generic, you advance to face Miles.

I'll update the brackets later.

Miles May 3, 2008 03:21 PM

I'll update your FACE.

GB, we should do our battle today or tomorrow. What time works for you? Tonight?

Final Fantasy Phoneteen May 3, 2008 06:56 PM

Yeah, tonight is fine, so just gimme a holler when you're ready. I'll try to check my PMs frequently.

Miles May 4, 2008 01:56 AM

Sorry. Drunk so can't fight toniyght unless i wanna give you a challenge free win. Tomorrow it is! XD

Final Fantasy Phoneteen May 4, 2008 04:21 PM

Alright, just PM me when you're ready. Aside from my run at around... 7-8 (which I can delay if needed), I'm free all day.

Basil May 4, 2008 05:23 PM

sprout and I are doing our rematch now. DO NOT DISTURB

Edit: And again I win, three to nothing. Least there was no lag.

Wall Feces May 4, 2008 05:45 PM

I got assraped even worse than before :tpg:

First match: Link (me) vs. Snake (Basil)

This was a pretty tight match. It came down to both of us being above 100% but in the end he got the victory

Second match: Meta Knight vs. Kirby

Epic fight... By which I mean wow did I suck ass. I made a few stupid ass mistakes that gave him an astronomical victory over me.

Third match: Ike vs. Samus

Another close one that came down to each of us having one stock in the end. I ended up getting blasted by a bombardment of bombs on the pirate ship level and got screwed.

Ah well, it was indeed a lag-free rematch regardless =P

That wasn't nearly as epic as the time I accidently did it against Kairyu, but it was the same principle =P

BTW, sorry to everyone who I rejected to play! I was waiting for Basil.

Basil May 4, 2008 06:08 PM

CHAOTIC AND I ARE DOING OUR MATCH.

Three people have already tried to get into our Brawls. So, yeah.

Buizel May 4, 2008 06:13 PM

I JUST NOTICED! lol

I'll leave you guys alone... for now. XD

Basil May 4, 2008 06:24 PM

Hooooly shit. That was fucking INTENSE. Now I'm reminded how and why I sucked against you the first time.

Just... wow.

I think the score was 3-1, wasn't it?

Chaotic May 4, 2008 06:26 PM

Gah, how the tables have turned!

Match 1: Pokemon Trainer (Me) vs. Yoshi (Basil)

Close match. Down to 1 stock, my life was fated by a stupid spring. Couldn't recover. :tpg:

Winner: Basil

Match 2: Falco (Me) vs. Marth (Basil)

I won this one by a landslide. And I can't believe I countered that hammer. :3:

Winner: Chaotic

Match 3: Snake (Me) vs. Yoshi (Basil)

This brings up the point why I hate certain stages. Rumble Fucking Falls. Snake is almost useless here.

Winner: Basil

Match 4: Wolf (Me) vs. Yoshi (Basil)

Another close match. Came down again to the last life, he just got the better of me. And now I'm reminded of how annoying the Wario Ware Stage can get. >_<

Winner: Basil

Basil wins the match 3-1.

Good match, man. :3:

Basil May 4, 2008 06:30 PM

Yeah, man. I'm surprised I even won. I thought Marth was my best character but I guess I need to experiment with other characters a bit more.

Sorry you couldn't get your birthday present. Dunno whether to ;____; or :tpg:

Chaotic May 4, 2008 06:32 PM

Don't worry about it. This loss just saves me from worrying about future matches since I got Finals this week anyway.

I always think that Wolf is my best character, but I have this nagging feeling that he's not. I guess I just rank him highly because I like him so much. I really gotta play with everyone I play with and determine who really is my best too.

Good luck in your next match. :)

Now I'm off to watch America's Funniest Home Videos and bake some cookies. :3:

Miles May 4, 2008 08:51 PM

I was gonna try to battle GB real quick but I guess the brawl servers are down or something. I can't cannot online with it and looking up the error code tells me the wifi servers may be down and to check back in a few hours. Why couldn't it just tell me that in the first place instead of making me go all the way over to my computer to log onto the Nintendo Customer Service website to look up the code. >_>

Final Fantasy Phoneteen May 4, 2008 09:26 PM

I was able to get on right now, so let's try again at... 8 PST or so. If you see this, anyway.

Chaotic May 9, 2008 08:33 PM

It's time for my obligatory, "So what's going on with your match" post!

So... What's going on with your match?

Final Fantasy Phoneteen May 9, 2008 10:27 PM

Well, the downtime of Wi-Fi last weekend killed our chance for a match, and I lent my controller to a friend. If she doesn't return it by the time Miles is ready for a match, I'll drop out.

Miles May 10, 2008 11:17 AM

I can fight today or tomorrow. Weekends are <3

Chaotic May 12, 2008 03:12 AM

So nothing spawned out of this weekend?

Final Fantasy Phoneteen May 12, 2008 04:23 AM

No, sadly, so I'll go ahead and forfeit. I would've lost if I had been forced to play with the Wii Remote, anyway.

Chaotic May 13, 2008 10:10 AM

So be it. I'll get everything updated.

Brackets and Current Matches updated. Miles, you're against Nexius.

Chaotic May 16, 2008 06:12 PM

Oh, Miles... Nex... What's going on...?

The Plane Is A Tiger May 16, 2008 06:36 PM

Miles has turned this into a battle of endurance so he doesn't have to give anyone else Wii Points.

Miles May 18, 2008 09:53 PM

You guys can just drop me from the tourney. I feel bad for delaying it so much. Good luck to the few remaining fighters!

Chaotic May 18, 2008 10:37 PM

;_;

Oh boy.

We're getting close to the end. Brackets will be updated momentarily.

Miles May 18, 2008 10:40 PM

Yeah, I know. So many drop outs! I feel bad for dropping out too. Honestly, I haven't played Brawl in weeks so I'm most likely too rusty to put up a good fight. =p

Chaotic May 18, 2008 10:43 PM

I've slowly drifted from Wolf to Falco this past week. ;_;

Anyway, Brackets and Current Matches updated. Basil, you're against Nexius now.

Basil May 24, 2008 06:30 PM

Nexius and I will be doing our match soon.

EDIT: And I promply got owned. Nex won 3-0.

I was pretty much stale from not playing in so long anyways. Good luck in the semifinals/finals, mate.

Chaotic May 25, 2008 03:49 AM

I'll get the brackets image up sooner or later.

Anyway, Icy, you're up against Nexius. This is Loser's Bracket Finals Match.

Identity Crisis May 25, 2008 04:23 PM

I just finished my match with Nexius. Icy wins 5-0!

Chaotic May 25, 2008 06:18 PM

Whoo hoo! Finals match!

Icy, you're against Black Mage now! Icy, if you win the first time, you send BM to the Loser's bracket, statistics reset and you do another set of five.

If BM wins the first time, it's all over and Miles has to fork over 2000 Wii points.

Black Mage May 25, 2008 07:21 PM

Alright, looks like IC and I will be doing our match now.

Wish us luck, hah hah. ;-D

Identity Crisis May 25, 2008 08:57 PM

Black Mage and I played our matches, and here are the results.

First Match: 5-0 in Icy's favor

Highlights:

Round 1: Wario (me) vs. Zero Suit Samus in WarioWare Inc.

The rewards the stage handed out were so in Black Mage's favor. He received three invincibility bonuses and I was stuck with 5% health recovery. :tpg:

In all fairness, I did grab a Smash Ball for my own insidious use: suiciding with a bike!

Round 2: Pikachu (me) vs. Pokemon Trainer in Pokemon Stadium

I lol'd at Black Mage's selection. I was selecting stages based on the characters I was fighting with, and there was definitely a strong theme. Unfortunately, there were unexpected lag spikes in the middle of the match. After the match, Black Mage and I decided to let me host to see if the connection would be any different. The lag was minimal for the remainder of the matches but still present to some extent.

Round 3: Meta Knight (me) vs. Ganondorf in Halberd

I'm a sucker for the Dark Dive, especially when it takes both of us off the edge.

I can't seem to remember much about Rounds 4 and 5. I'll edit this post with their details if they come up to me. Also, some of the highlights might be in the wrong order.

Second Match: 5-3 in Icy's favor

[Eh, I'll try to figure out what happened here.]

Victory is mine!

I'll edit more details of the match later if I can remember them. Trying to recall what happened in all thirteen matches is going to take a while. Right now, I wanna know what's going on with the 2v2 tournament, Chaotic. =U

Miles May 25, 2008 09:56 PM

Cool. PM me the friend code you want me to send the points to and I'll send them your way tomorrow. Either that or let me know 2000 points worth of games you want.

The Plane Is A Tiger May 25, 2008 10:07 PM

Congrats, Icy! I had a sneaking suspicion you'd be the victor from the start. Makes me feel better about all the times I've lost miserably to you.

Kairyu May 25, 2008 10:39 PM

Wow, nice run there Icy! I actually had my money on Nexius too.
Too bad we can't see replays of those final matches.

Oh well, good brawling everyone!

Chaotic May 26, 2008 02:53 AM

Good stuff. :3:

Congrats, Icy. We'll continue the 2v2 Tournament discussion the March Smashness Sign-Up Thread.

Geez, I'm not surprise! Just playing against you off-tournament I knew you will win the whole thing. :p

Anyway, congrats! Enjoy your 2-3 VC/WiiWare games. :tpg:
