March Smashness

Props to naz for the name.

I'm dropping the clan idea for a little while. Give people sometime to actually get the game and maybe develop interest for it after a normal tournament occurs with no crazy rules or anything attached to it. This tournament is completely unrelated to the other tournament/league thread.

I don't really want anyone debating about the rule set either. It's either you join, or you don't. I understand if you don't want to because of lag also.

I will leave this question for people to answer me though:

March Smashness - One tournament (1v1 or 2v2) or two separate tournaments (1v1 and 2v2). You may sign up for both since one will be held after the other one has been held. You can choose your own teammates also. So... One or two tournaments?

Meh, two tournaments. 1v1 and 2v2. I know where debating will lead me if I ask. o_o

Rule Set:
Double Elimination (Just so the fun won't end after having one match)
4 stock, 8 minutes
All items on - Low
All Stages On
Team Attack On
You are allowed to change characters.

Standard Matches: First to 3 wins
Finals: First to 5 wins

Anyone interested? Oh, post up your Friend Code and in-game name if you wanna sign up. Chaotic is lazy to look in the wiki or the other thread. :tpg:

Cut off date is next Saturday, March 29th @ 11:59 PM EST.

Sure, I'll sign up for both. My only problem that my internet is not reliable right now, but I sincerely hope that will be fixed by next weekend.

Wall Feces Mar 22, 2008 08:06 PM

2 tourneys, sign me up for both :)

Identity Crisis Mar 22, 2008 08:10 PM

I'd rather have two separate tourneys. That way, anybody whose interested in 1v1 or 2v2 isn't left behind. I probably won't be able to participate in the 2v2 due to connection issues, so sign me up only for the 1v1 for the time being.

EDIT: Reposting friend code... again.

5155-2611-0074 (Icy)

Chaotic Mar 22, 2008 08:14 PM

I only say the Friend Code repost out of love... And the fact that not everyone's is in the Wiki yet. <.<

Kairyu Mar 22, 2008 08:21 PM

Ok so the other tournament/league sign up is a separate event? Well sign me up for both the 1v1 and 2v2.

Also, Chaotic use the tournament prefix! I made it for a reason :3:.

edit:
Here's my FC you lazy bastard~! Kairyu - 5412-9560-1077 (Kai)

Lukage Mar 22, 2008 08:47 PM

Lazy ass.

3351-3713-1022 Luke

both.

Turbo Mar 22, 2008 11:31 PM

Sign me up for both

Turbo- 2707-1346-1794

FatsDomino Mar 23, 2008 01:42 AM

Okay, I like the rules for this one. I'll definitely sign up. I do hope it isn't too laggy for everybody though. I want to join both tournaments.

2449-4288-7003 (Acer)

Slash Mar 23, 2008 02:46 AM

I'm down for both

Slash - 2277-6323-7738 (Slash)

Miles Mar 23, 2008 03:14 AM

Miles: 2320-5771-6207 (Miles)

I'll join in both of these.

Chaotic Mar 23, 2008 03:29 AM

And just so you know, I'm using tio tournament organizer to determine brackets and keep track of what in the world is going on when this tournament is started. I've used it before, and it works well for it's simplicity.

Since brackets can (and will) be randomly generated, I assure you that it was all the program's fault should you be matched up with someone you know is good on this board.

So yeah, just thought you'd like to know.

Slash Mar 23, 2008 03:48 AM

I wish we could all spectate on the tournament...that'd be cool

The_Griffin Mar 23, 2008 04:14 AM

I'm signing on for both tournies:

4167-4176-2214 (Griff)

Basil Mar 23, 2008 11:22 AM

I'm in for both tourneys~

I'm in for both tourneys. This is gonna be fun!! ^_^

Freelance Mar 23, 2008 01:34 PM

Sign me up for both.

3437-2712-7766 (Reno)

Not sure what double elimination means though.

Krelian Mar 23, 2008 01:48 PM

I'll sign up for the 2v2. No friend code yet, because, well, I don't have the game.

Tuesday. That OK?

Buizel Mar 23, 2008 01:59 PM

Both plzkthx

3909-6780-6875 (Paper Fan) (BigCN)

Slicky Mar 23, 2008 05:46 PM

Sounds good, sign me up for it also.

3093-6743-7355 (Will)

Chaotic Mar 23, 2008 06:11 PM

Before I sign you up, I fear that you're not gonna be here for the tournament. You're not exactly the most active member signing up for this. The last time you posted was 12 days ago, and prior to that you posted in January.

I don't want to sign up someone who's gonna leave someone hanging just because they didn't check this place to see who they were fighting.

Slicky Mar 23, 2008 06:39 PM

I just mainly lurk around, used to post years ago, but not really anymore. It's ok though if you don't want to add me in, I understand by the lack of activity.

Chaotic Mar 23, 2008 06:42 PM

I'll still sign you up though, but just be sure to post around or whatever. I'm just a little weary about that.

But tell me, both tournaments?

Slicky Mar 23, 2008 06:48 PM

ahh it's alright, I check often anyways, especially for this one. For both tournaments. Thanks.

Black Mage Mar 24, 2008 09:27 PM

Interested in signing up for both. Don't think I've posted my friend code anywhere else, but eh.

FC: 5455-9062-3380 (BMage)

EDIT: Question answered in the strike out.

Nexius Mar 24, 2008 11:26 PM

Just got my Wii, and got it all hooked up, so definitely wanna sign up for both. Like Slicky, I'm a bit of a lurker so please don't mind my post count... I most certainly won't miss out, I check these forums pretty much daily.

FC: 4725-7869-7084 (Nex)

The Plane Is A Tiger Mar 24, 2008 11:29 PM

I was really liking the clan idea, but oh well. Sign me up for both.

Tritoch: 4639-8671-0953 (Tri)

Chaotic Mar 24, 2008 11:57 PM

We'll get back to it eventually, Tritoch. I wanna go back to it also, but first, just a normal tournament for everyone.

Then we can complicate shit again. o_o

nazpyro Mar 25, 2008 09:21 PM

I'm back for some brawlin'. MARCH SMASHNESS before complex-SMASH-NESS is fine with me. Team Shoemart!

nazpyro: 2578-2821-7619 (naz)

I guess I'll enter both tourneys. How are we selecting our partners?

Also, for the double-elimination thing... Will the undefeated team/player in the championship match have to be defeated twice? Not saying I'll get there, but just wondering.

Chaotic Mar 25, 2008 09:38 PM

I'm still thinking about that. o_o

I actually started thinking about how people would choose their teammates once the 2v2 tournament rolls around. I'm sure that people can mingle with themselves to choose a teammate and then send me in the team with a designated team name.

Although it seems a little unfair to the two lurkers we have in the tournament... To some extent anyway. Perhaps they could form Team LURK MOAR!

But we'll think about it when the time comes.

As for the double elimination. The championship match consists of the winner of the Winner's Bracket and the winner of the loser's bracket. Winner takes all after that match.

lol I don't mind that team up then if the other person is ok with it. I was wondering, how the scheduling would be handled?

Krelian Mar 27, 2008 11:04 AM

Friend code's in the other thread and on the Wiki. Sign me up for the 1v1, actually.

Chaotic Mar 27, 2008 11:11 AM

Gotcha. Hopefully this will somehow work out. There's an odd amount of people in the 2v2, so maybe that cut-off date will be just for the 1v1, if anyone still wants to do the 2v2 when the 1v1 starts, feel free to sign-up.

URGENT QUESTION: To anyone participating, just so this tournament isn't insanely short, is everyone alright with making it a first to three wins match-up? The finals would switch up to first to five wins. Just thinking about it so the level of competition stays high.

Confirmed.

Kairyu Mar 27, 2008 04:38 PM

I'm fine with the first to three wins and first to five landmasterswins format. The absolute worst thing it could do is drag on a losing match. But I don't think that will be an issue since we're allowed to switch characters.

Chaotic Mar 27, 2008 05:12 PM

Mmhmm, just wanna make this as competitive as possible. Even if you're the only one who's actually said anything about it, I'm gonna finalize it anyway. I'm sure people want to show as much skill as possible in this tournament.

Miles Mar 28, 2008 01:28 AM

I had an idea earlier. Whoever wins the 1vs1 tournament gets rewarded 2000 wii points to spend on the virtual console. Whatever team wins the 2 vs 2 tournament each get 1000 wii points. Not a bad award I'd say! By the way, I will fund these awards.

*watches BigCN's brother join the tournament*

Any objections to this?

Chaotic Mar 28, 2008 01:46 AM

I was just about to object and then I read:

"I will fund these awards."

I thought I would have to pay for it, but since you're offering it, it's something I can't refuse. I could use a couple of game downloads on the VC. :3

Chaotic lacks a job and is cheap as hell. :tpg:

Kairyu Mar 28, 2008 01:50 AM

If that isn't enough incentive to join in on some competitive online matches then I don't know what is.
I'm down with your idea =).

Freelance Mar 28, 2008 06:09 AM

I object! If both BigCN's brother and Icy joins, there's no way the rest of us is going to win XD

Ah well, I'll be getting Sin and Punishment in the unlikely chance I win XD

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Mar 28, 2008 05:31 PM

As opportunistic as it sounds for me to join in after Miles has offered to send up prizes, I'd like to participate (in both). I've been interested in doing so for any tournament GFF has, and I'd be doing this even without the gifts!

Buizel Mar 28, 2008 11:32 PM

I already said that my brother doesn't want to...

*Ihopz sees Miles post*

Additional Spam:
And sign-ups for the 1v1 tournament are closed! 2v2 sign-ups are still open.

I should have the brackets up in a minute.

nazpyro Apr 3, 2008 12:04 PM

*bump*

2v2? We need one more to even it out for the 2v2! ;_;

Chaotic Apr 3, 2008 12:07 PM

Yes, we do. ;_;

Hopefully someone will jump in.

Slash Apr 3, 2008 12:09 PM

Chaotic...you might want to mention it again in the smash bros brawl thread since more people have probably gotten brawl since the first post.

Summonmaster Apr 3, 2008 01:22 PM

Oh there's a 2v2 tournament too?
I would like to sign up. My partner will have to get used to my strange character choices :p

Chaotic Apr 3, 2008 01:29 PM

Start considering who you want to team up with now. Next week, I'll start allowing people to send in their teammates and their team names.

I'll add them all into the tio tournament organizer and again, slap everything in randomness... No matter how many byes there are this time.

If nobody have any objection, I guess it only make sense if my brother and I team up.

Doesn't that mean we would get another 2000 Wii Points if we win? :tpg:

Chaotic Apr 3, 2008 01:38 PM

:tpg:

I was figuring that would happen anyway. Just come up with a team name and PM it to me.

Chaotic is speaking in the third-person again. Chaotic is reminding himself this is all just for fun. It's all just for fun, Chaotic. :tpg:

Chaotic Apr 7, 2008 10:17 AM

Hay, it's been long enough.

You could start choosing your teammate for the 2v2 Tournament. PM me the team name and the name of the teammate so I could mark down everyone so we could get this started right after the 1v1 tournament finishes up.

Wall Feces Apr 7, 2008 10:26 AM

I have no friends :(

Who wants to team up? I'm pretty damn good at this game.

Basil Apr 7, 2008 10:32 AM

I'll team with you, sprout. If you don't mind, of course.

I'll try not to play as Link or Toon Link. :fap:

Chaotic Apr 7, 2008 10:37 AM

Oh, me and naz are already teamed up. Don't talk about team names in here though. I wanna keep them hidden until the tournament. :3:

But I'll mark off who has a teammate already.

Slash Apr 7, 2008 12:23 PM

What the hell is this BS :-p I go to school and ya'll are already gettin yer teammates on? lol.

But make sure you're out of range. Just to be fair to everyone, team attack MUST be on.

And is everyone alright with stock sharing after death?

Black Mage Apr 7, 2008 04:01 PM

Definitely. Sharing stock is a pretty big part of the game and has the potential to make or break a match. At least, that is how it was in Melee, and I can only assume Brawl follows suit.

Glad to hear Team Attack is on too. Last thing I'd want to see is a Falco duo having fun with the laser.

Chaotic Apr 7, 2008 04:09 PM

By the way, not sure if people know how to take lives from their teammates or not...

Space waster on the front page...

Both GC Controller and Classic Controller:
A+B+X+Y

Wall Feces Apr 7, 2008 04:42 PM

What's all this about sharing stock? Is this a rule that I need to unlock or some such thing?

Buizel Apr 7, 2008 05:21 PM

Well you already know that my brother and I are going to be a team so you can add us to the list. :D

なに?!
I didn't hear this before (at least, I don't remember lol)!
Good thing you say it or else I wouldn't know about it. :tpg:

Chaotic Apr 7, 2008 07:04 PM

All stock sharing is when one of your teammate has been defeated, but you still have more than one life. When you press the combination of buttons, you take a life from your teammate and live again for one more stock.

It's been around since the first one, but always regarded a secret for some reason.

Summonmaster Apr 8, 2008 10:11 AM

How would you stockshare with the Wiimote :o Yes I'm a nut, I still just use the Wiimote and it works fine for me. Less silly mistakes nowadays after much playing.

Advertising myself right now, for the partnerless! I play quirky characters and the girls, and can hold my own with all of them, for anyone looking for a point of reference.

Chaotic Apr 8, 2008 10:54 AM

I'll look into that tonight. I'm not sure how you stock share with the Wii-mote/Nunchuck or the Wii-mote alone.

nazpyro Apr 10, 2008 12:01 PM

I got around to some 2v2 last night and thought I'd figured it out if the opportunity presented itself. So, much to my partner's dismay, it worked: A+B+C+Z. I came back with a single life, I took one of his and he was promptly out of the game as he was KO'd once I spawned... :3: oh the bitter curses. We changed teams after that. :x

Well, that's for Wii-mote+Nunchuk. If you're using just Wii-mote... what's wrong with you? :deadhorse:

Chaotic Apr 10, 2008 12:03 PM

It's probably A+B+1+2 on the Wii-mote making a safe assumption.

I still can't use that shit though. I don't get why 1+2 isn't defaulted at throwing someone...

Buizel Apr 12, 2008 10:11 PM

Well because of this news my brother is dropping out on 2v2... too. So it looks like somebody needs to join in or drop out or I'll have to drop out too. :(

Freelance Apr 12, 2008 10:23 PM

Ahh you're much better than me so I'm gonna drop out so you can play. I was planning on dropping out anyway as I'm just not good enough to participate in tournaments.

Happy Brawling, Buizel fan.

Kairyu Apr 12, 2008 10:39 PM

Whoops, I forgot to say so here.

Teaming up with Miles for ultimate Landmaster hating action >:U

Chaotic Apr 12, 2008 10:44 PM

Aw, Wolf, you're making me a sad panda again! :tpg:

Everyone dropping out! Left and right!

Miles Apr 12, 2008 10:51 PM

I was going to drop out too (after beating Kairyu silly) just to save Icy the efforts of pwning me but I figured I have nothing to lose by continuing. I was getting bored of Brawl already but after playing with Kairyu earlier I've been in the mood to play again.

We need to practice our teamwork. I keep friendly firing on Kairyu during our team practice matches.

It won't be yours. You're next on Icy's list. That is, if you win your match. XD

Hey! It's either me of BigCN. Ya can't have both! Besides, for some reason I play better in casual play than in tournament play. Maybe it's the pressure!

Chaotic Apr 12, 2008 11:12 PM

Maybe! But don't let that pressure get to you!

Buizel Apr 12, 2008 11:22 PM

Wolf, you don't have to drop out because of my situation. I'll just drop out then and I'll tell my brother to buy his own damn Wii Points in the future. lol

(random Wolf quote)

Black Mage Apr 13, 2008 12:30 AM

Keep in mind guys that Slicky's on the outs right now too. As he posted in the other thread, his internet is down for an unspecified amount of time and if the tournament starts before it gets back he said he'd step out.

Slicky and I were planning on partnering, but if he's not in I'll need a new partner as well. Of course, there's always a chance that his internet will return by the time we start and there won't be an issue.

But, I just thought I'd bring attention to this again as people seem to be discussing dropping out as a necessity.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Apr 13, 2008 09:18 AM

I still need a partner. I thought I'd never find one after my embarrassing showing against ihopz, but I've been playing... adequately against a few people here (Chaotic, Wolf, IC). Nothing great, but I think it's enough to find me a partner.

Identity Crisis May 17, 2008 08:56 PM

Hey there, dead thread~

Are sign-ups still open for the 2v2 tournament? The 1v1 is taking longer than I expected, and I'm back to my not crappy home internet connection. If it's still possible, I'd like to register myself and Twikite as a team.

Chaotic May 26, 2008 03:11 AM

So, I'm just wondering... Is there still any interest in this tournament? The 1v1 tournament took long enough. :gonk:

Kairyu May 26, 2008 03:17 AM

What, of course I'm still interested. And since summer has started over here I will have even more open spots to play those vidya games =D

Though I do wonder if my teammate is still up for it.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen May 26, 2008 10:21 AM

I'm sure a lot of people dropped out, so maybe we could do a slimmed-down tournament. That would go much faster, too.

FatsDomino May 26, 2008 10:37 AM

lol how did people's matches go anyway? I haven't played Brawl online in a while because lag made it practically impossible to get a decent fight going that anyone could be satisfied with.

Chaotic May 26, 2008 10:45 AM

Mine, for the most part, ran pretty smoothly. Aside from the half a second lag that online play produces, there wasn't much after that.

The Plane Is A Tiger May 26, 2008 12:31 PM

That's how most of my matches went too. I don't remember having any actual lag during the tournament aside from that mildly annoying delay. As for the 2v2 tournament, I'm eagerly awaiting getting crushed by IC.

SuperSonic May 27, 2008 08:09 PM

I'm still up for this, I just never really looked for a partner.

As for the lag, it all depends on the people I'm playing with. I think I lagged with a few of you, Icy most recently but I think that got fixed after a short while.

Identity Crisis May 27, 2008 09:18 PM

I'm still game for this; otherwise, I wouldn't have joined so abruptly. If any teams want to do some sparring, let me know, and my partner and I can organize some team battles online. Unfortunately, the lack of communication on the WiFi is a bit irksome, so we'll need to settle on team colors beforehand to avoid confusion.

Also, Chaotic, Twikite doesn't have his own Wii, but he only lives a couple of blocks away from my house. We'll be using my Wii for the tournament.

nazpyro May 27, 2008 09:26 PM

I'm still game for the 2v2 as well. I haven't played it online in a while, I've still been getting some BRAWL time in, though the sessions weren't nearly as challenging as you foos online.

Miles May 27, 2008 09:47 PM

Yes, I'm down.

Chaotic May 27, 2008 09:51 PM

Alrighty, so interest is still high for this.

Still forming teams, any one colored in red still doesn't have a teammate. Given that no one else wants to randomly join, everyone should be able to pick a teammate out of that list. Last two get stuck together.

Also, don't forget to send me team names!

Kairyu May 27, 2008 10:05 PM

Just so you know Basil told me that he and Sprout are more than likely flaking out of this tournament. Too busy with other stuff at the moment was his reason.

Ah damn, we need names now? Might as well just call my team, team pokémans :3:

Chaotic May 27, 2008 10:19 PM

Only if Miles would agree to it. :3:

Send it to me in a PM, I like keeping people surprised about the names.

Miles May 28, 2008 01:29 AM

I'm fine with that, or Team Landmaster. :3:

Kairyu and I played multiple matches today and ours were probably 98% lag free. For some reason he's the only person I can play with without experiencing any lag. Of course having dedicated connections give us a huge advantage over those on college collections. Luckily most people are home now for the summer so I hope that helps out on these 2 vs 2 fights.

Chaotic May 28, 2008 02:21 AM

As far as team names go, Miles and Kai still have to decide on one together and then send me the final name.

Tritoch and nutty still need to send me a name also.

Why am I still on the list? I said that I wanted to drop out one page ago.

...or I said it on another post. lol
Well since there's an even amount of participant guess I'll say and team up with anybody who wants me or team up with the last person (aka you come to me!). If there's an odd participant (when someone drop out) then just drop me out too.

Chaotic May 28, 2008 02:35 AM

My bad. :tpg:

Miles May 28, 2008 09:13 AM

Better watch out for that Kairyu. There was one match where the only three times I died were because of him killing me. Killing his teammate. ;____; And then another time he was burning me to death. I could have reflected it back onto him but then he, my teammate, would take damage. His excuse was he was having FOX for dinner. Get out!

Kairyu May 28, 2008 03:08 PM

Alright, I'll go with Team Landmaster.

BAWWWWWWWW

It was hilarious knowing that we still won =D

Slicky May 29, 2008 02:02 AM

I've already talked to Black Mage, but I'll be pulling out. My GC controller died, tried using a wiimote and it was just awkward, plus not having played for awhile really doesn't help. Although I don't think it would be hard for BM to find a replacement since he did get to the finals lol.

Chaotic May 29, 2008 02:16 AM

Well, if that's the case, then I could drop BigCN out also. o_o

10 people still left without a teammate. C'mon, people! Let's get this started! Also, edited the rules a slight bit to add a detail about the 2v2 Tournament.

Team Attack is On.

Miles May 29, 2008 08:37 AM

Kairyu and Miles win due to everyone dropping out. :33:

I bet you'll give Kairyu 2000 Wii Points if you guys win overall. :p

And I guess I'm out due to odd amount of participant. Have fun and good luck everyone! :)

Miles May 29, 2008 02:08 PM

1000 points each so I would save myself an extra 10 bucks. But then again, with all his Tking he shouldn't get anything. >=(

Chaotic Jul 6, 2008 03:58 AM

Did people forget about this thread already? Yes? No? Whatever.

So, If no one else is signing up, I'm running this thing (about four months late) with only four teams. I'm just waiting on a team name from nutty and Tritoch and then I could get this started. I already sent a PM their way.

Since it's obviously not March anymore, I need another name for this 2v2 tournament. July Smashness seems kinda lame.

The Plane Is A Tiger Jul 6, 2008 06:36 PM

Since it's been several months since the tourney was announced, I'd like to request no Team Attack. It's hard to be satisfied with a match, win or lose, if it was because of accidental team kills. Plus it renders a lot of final smashes useless (sup Team Landmaster).

Anyway, the Asian Manservants will crush you all.

Chaotic Jul 6, 2008 06:38 PM

Meh, I personally just wanna keep it on.

If you kill your teammate, that's all on you. And it's really unfair when you reach a 2v1 and there's constant rape surrounding you.

I'm sure Team Attack will produce some lawl situations anyway.

The Plane Is A Tiger Jul 6, 2008 06:47 PM

I guess, but like I said, there's not much sport in winning due to team kills either. It can be funny, but as a tournament it feels cheap. If you get stuck in a 2v1 situation then it's your fault for having a crappy teammate.

I just wanted to see what the feeling on it was now that we've been reduced down to 4 teams.

nuttyturnip Jul 6, 2008 07:50 PM

I second no Team Attack, mostly because I suck.

How about Summer Smash? That could get you started on other ideas.

Identity Crisis Jul 6, 2008 09:29 PM

So, just to make sure, is this Team Attack rule up for debate or set in stone? I'd like to know what the rule is before my team faces off against rabid Asians nuttyturnip and Tritoch.

If it is up for debate, I really don't care whether or not it is turned on or off. I can handle either.

Chaotic Jul 6, 2008 11:03 PM

I asked the Almighty Chocobo:

http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/7...ttackonkh7.png

He spoke and said that. Now it's set in stone.

Just think of it as a brawl with the idea of minding someone. In other words, less Landmaster, more Za Garudo.

The Plane Is A Tiger Jul 6, 2008 11:52 PM

Very well, the Almighty Chocodecide has issued its decree and I shall abide by it.

Chaotic Jul 6, 2008 11:56 PM

Sorry for the inconvenience though, but I fear of what the Chocobo might do to me if I do not follow him. :(
