What do you want to see before you die?

US dollar > CAN dollar :(

Automated personal transportation. You know, cars that drive themselves?

A moon base would be neat. I don't know, I never really thought about what I would like to see outside of 'dang that'd be awesome'.

Radez Mar 17, 2008 09:16 PM

Before I die, I'd love to see personality transplants.

Ditto on the moon base.

Also, anti-gravity wouldn't be so bad. =o

Bradylama Mar 17, 2008 09:19 PM

Nano colonies constructing items out of basic materials.

No. Hard Pass. Mar 17, 2008 09:23 PM

The flying car. Come on, man! It's the FLYING CAR.

YouTube Video

In actuality, I'd like to see terraforming. Like, full on turn the moon into a jungle paradise terraforming.

^-^ Mar 17, 2008 09:25 PM

I would like to see the Aurora Borealis with my fater, one last time.

Too bad it's never going to happen.

I want to see that too but that sort of stuff takes too much time. We'll never see it in our lifetime I don't think. I'd really really really like to see that though.

I'd make a pretty shady deal to extend my life to see it happen...! Well, maybe not, but I would entertain the thought.

Soluzar Mar 17, 2008 09:30 PM

I'd like to see mankind taking the first step towards living on another planet.

I'd like to see cancer and HIV/AIDS cured.

I'd like to see some improvement to the way we treat the planet.

I'd like to see more ways to repair the human body so that we can continue to live our lives in full quality for our entire span. These days people expect to live to 80 or more. It would be nice if we could live to 80 or more without being decrepit and withered.

Last but not least I'd like to see life expectancy raised. I'm in no hurry to die. I'd rather stay alive as long as possible.

Moon Mar 17, 2008 09:44 PM

Before I die, I want to see the following:
1. Organized lunar mining of helium-3.
3. The inevitable war over said lunar mining ending after being quick and somewhat painless.
3. Biological interfaces with machines that don't involve an appendage.
4. Population control that prevents the inevitable fall of man due to a super resilient disease brought on by overpopulation of overuse of antibiotics.

DarkMageOzzie Mar 17, 2008 10:03 PM

Androids. No seriously.

valiant Mar 17, 2008 10:13 PM

World War Z to happen.

Little Brenty Brent Brent Mar 17, 2008 11:04 PM

I'd like to see cloning of organs progress to the point where everyone can afford to live without debilitating illnesses or handicaps.

guyinrubbersuit Mar 17, 2008 11:11 PM

I'd like to be able to take my brain and put it in a robot body so I can live forever.

More realistically, I'd love to see Europe, and hell just generally travel the world.

Wall Feces Mar 17, 2008 11:13 PM

I'd like to see everyone stop being such fucking prudes about stem cells.
I'd love to see extra-terrestrial life make contact with us or vice versa.

bahamuty Mar 17, 2008 11:31 PM

I would like to see world hunger and wars come to an end, spaceships and the colonizing of other planets, and holodecks. It would just be so neat to program whatever kind of scenario into it and go adventuring.

On a more realistic side I’d like to travel around Europe, Japan, Australia, New Zeal Land and for the US economy and dollar to be strong again.

Shorty Mar 19, 2008 05:40 PM

I think the most realistic goal I can state is: The top of Mt. Fuji.

My grandfather told me that every Japanese person should climb Mt. Fuji once in their life. Him being one of the people that completed the quest 7 times (twice after the age of 60), I asked him what that makes him. He replied: "ただのバカ。(Just a dumb bloke)" :tpg:

For me it goes a little beyond a moon base. I really want to see us colonizing another planet.

Bernard Black Mar 19, 2008 06:02 PM

The aurora borealis and the invention of the liver of steel.

World peace, the end of famine and global warming being my most unlikely wishes. Finding a (hopefully) benign alien race would be pretty awesome, regardless of intelligence or technology.

I want to see one thing before I die: MARIJUANA LEGALIZED.

But since Pfizer finger fucks with the government to keep them in the money, this will never happen. Prozac doesn't want to compete against the ganja; it will fail miserably.

i am good at jokes Mar 19, 2008 06:40 PM

I would like to see everybody be able to enjoy their lives and be happy, in whichever way that could happen.

I second that.

I would also like to travel a bit and see the world out there. Maybe own a Harley-Davidson or something like that.

Or then again Pfizer could grow and market Marijuana as an over-the-counter ADD drug.

Imagine a classroom full of kids who have ADD and used to jump around, now too stoned to move and forced to listen to the instructor talk "for, like, centuries."

Isn't that what Ritalin was all about?

Bigblah Mar 20, 2008 07:11 AM

World Peace

Fusion power replacing oil and nuclear fission.

Quantum computers and the brain-computer interface.

A food industry that actually promotes health and nutrition.

Education that promotes creativity and critical thinking.

The abolishment of predatory copyright, and in return, commensurate respect and rewards for ideas and creative expressions.

I'm a goddamn hippie

I thought Ritalin was treated more as over-the-counter cocaine than over-the-counter marijuana. It's a subtle distinction I admit, but one worth making.

Thanatos Mar 20, 2008 07:51 AM

mass human cloning, where clones are traded on the free market and I can buy a clone of say... jessica alba.

Ritalin is an amphetamine. In adults it has the effects of any other amphetamine, increased heart rate etc but it has the opposite effect on kids before they hit puberty, dopes 'em out. Essentially you're both right.

Ephedrine is a much better over-the-counter soke substitute though.

Daedalus Ikari Mar 24, 2008 03:37 AM

Pretty much what Soluzar said, I'd like to see our race as a whole treat the planet better. (As opposed to just moving on and screwing over another planet once this one is done)

Even if we can't reverse the damage already done thus far, I'd like to at least see some measures taken to prevent things from getting worse.

Pirate Mar 25, 2008 10:09 AM

I would really like to see Maccu Piccu and maybe Stone Henge. I'm 24, and have never had money to travel. I have been to so few places, I've only been out of the country once (twice if you count Mexico... but come on, it's attached). It makes me feel very inexperienced.

priji Mar 28, 2008 06:10 AM

My greatest joy would be to never die

Smelnick Mar 28, 2008 08:32 AM

I think before we start terraforming other planets, I'd want us to learn how to take care of the planet we got. Otherwise, a couple thousand years down the road, we'll have the same problem again.

I would like to have built at least one house on my own before I die.
I want to go camping with my dad one more time.

Thats about it really.

Fire On Ice Mar 28, 2008 11:47 AM

I'd love to see a cure for cancer. I really would. People have been working on one for forever and while there have been advances, there's no cure. In all honesty, I don't think there ever will be one just because of the nature of the disease but one can dream, right?

I often wonder if some of you... things... were cut out for life in the first place.

The Wise Vivi Mar 29, 2008 01:48 AM

I want to see a few NASCAR races, meet some race stars in person, among other things I would like to see the issues in Africa and population problems in Asia (India, China) get solved and see the world change from fossil fuels to something more sustaining.

Skexis Mar 29, 2008 02:22 AM

I hate to be the selfish one here, but I don't usually have a lot of ambition, so I figure I'll indulge myself on the hypothetical. =)

1. I'd like to see Scotland before I die. It probably seems weird, but I've always felt like I'd like it there. I thrive in rainy/windblown weather, and the seaside atmosphere crossed with green hills makes me think it would be a nice place to get away to and simply relax. Of course, that's probably my idealized version of Scotland talking.

2. I'd also like to see myself in some measure of fame after having written a popular book/movie script or somesuch. Not necessarily the great American novel or anything, just something many people agree is good, or that helped them to realize something about their own lives.

3. Um....The Ring?

Shorty Mar 29, 2008 03:36 AM

I'd like to see the oil companies stop fucking with patents of inventions that will help the civilized world use more eco-friendly sources of energy. The world would have SO MUCH cleaner air if they didn't compete so hard for our doe for the last half century.

RainMan Mar 29, 2008 03:41 AM

I'd love to see someone being compassionate without expecting anything in return.

I also echo the sentiments about seeing Macchu Picchu. That would be incredible. Deep sea diving through a kelp forest would be pretty amazing as well.
