Hellsing OVA

Did anyone get to see the OVA yet? I downloaded it the moment I found it and I can definatley say it does not disapoint. It's basiclly the first 3 episodes of the old anime but better and true-er to the manga (they kept the virgin thing in, for example). I only had one small beef was they kind of used a bit too much CG for my tastes, but I guess that's to be expected. The parts that aren't CG are beautifully animated.

The biggest improvement though is Integra doesn't look like a man.

Jiraiya Mar 2, 2006 06:42 PM

Happen to have a link to any OVA torrents? I would gladly download it and tell you what I think :)

Dopefish Mar 2, 2006 06:42 PM

I have seen it. It is good.

Integra intends herself to look as much like a man as possible, so strictly speaking that's not an improvement if that's what you think.

Casaubon Mar 2, 2006 06:47 PM

I know that, but believe it or not it's actually nicer to have a female actually look like a female. I wasn't being entirely serious with that comment, I'll be sure to add a smiley next time for others to understand.

Rockgamer Mar 2, 2006 07:16 PM

Yeah, anybody got a good link to the OVA so I can finally see this? I could probably find one myself, but I'm not really good at knowing what's good when it comes to fansubbed anime.

Jonus Mar 2, 2006 07:19 PM

You can get a version from mahou here:
http://tracker.mahou.org/torrents/%5...5D.avi.torrent

Rockgamer Mar 2, 2006 07:23 PM

Thanks, I'm downloading it now!

Shonos Mar 2, 2006 07:26 PM

I watched it just a few days ago. I really liked it. But I agree that there was a bit too much CG going on.

When will the next one be out? Does anyone know?

Arkhangelsk Mar 2, 2006 07:32 PM

Actually, I was disappointed. As far as the first couple of stories in the manga go, I think that the original series did a better job animation and vocals-wise. The CG was irritating.

I was glad to see Seras look right, and improvements on Integra, but I watched the original right after the OVA and have to say that Alucard has more presence in the first 4 episodes of the TV series.

Still, I'll be happy to see the rest of the series, because there are a lot of things from the manga that I would be thrilled to see animated for the first time.

chato Mar 2, 2006 10:09 PM

the episode could've been alot better. there wasn't much cg and none of it really bothered me. the second one is with rip, correct? thats whati wanna see most.

That would be the forth or fifth one seeing as how they're following the manga. The Next one should be Jan and Luke with the wild gease thrown in at the end. Then the one after that should be the start of the Brazil arc and Tubalcane. Then probaly the second half of Tubalcane Vs. Alucard and the nazi's return to Germany, ending with Rip on the HMS Eagle in the forth one. Atleast thats how I see it. But they could start the Brazil arc by the end of two for all I know. I'm only making guesses by what they had in the first episode.....

I poked it and it made a sad sound Mar 2, 2006 10:41 PM

I recently saw it myself, and I have to say I really miss the original music from the series. The music now just doesn't seem to do the OVA any justice. I recall being really hyped about scenes in the series, while overlooking their imperfections, due to the music alone.

In seeing the new OVA, I was disappointed overall. Sure, the look was a lot better, but I really didn't feel that it was overall much better.

Maybe once Rip gets involved, my opinion will change. ^_^

valiant Mar 2, 2006 11:14 PM

I am really excited to see how the 2nd ep turns out (supposedly released at April) regarding Luke and Jan.

Cirno Mar 3, 2006 03:00 AM

I was relieved that the CG wasn't as glaring as the first trailer made it out to be. It was a bit excessive in some areas, but it never took me out of the OVA's general mood or atmosphere. As for the actual "episode," I enjoyed it. The storytelling did feel rushed, but I didn't really want to spend a whole OVA episode on the first few adventures with Alucard and Seras. It's almost assuming that the viewers have seen the TV series, and with that in mind I see this episode as a big recap.

I was hoping for some better choreography in the Alucard/Andersen fight. I mean, the fight in the series wasn't all that great either, but I enjoyed that one more than the light scuffle in the OVA. Hopefully the upcoming episodes make up for this.

walko Mar 3, 2006 02:28 PM

waow ! i didn't know that there was an OAV !! i'll take it today !!!

Shenlon Mar 3, 2006 03:11 PM

Saw the OVA a while ago. Integra has some sort of mood change different from what she acted in the original series. I never read the manga so I can't really say much of the difference.
The OVA was nice and full of action but I could never really become a true fan of these series.

Wtf...450mb for one episode?

How many episodes they planning on releasing?

RYU Mar 3, 2006 05:52 PM

this OVA will only have 1 episode?or will see new episodes on future?

Casaubon Mar 3, 2006 05:55 PM

The episode is 45 minutes long. And I don't know if they have a set ammount of episodes but of course they are going to make more.

Agreed, animation-wise it was impressive, but the music was really disappointing.

From what I've seen now, it is just going to be a recap of what I've seen in the original anime? Or is it going to pick up the story where the anime left off? Or is it going to follow the manga? I haven't read it before, so I wouldn't know ;_;

Tir Mar 4, 2006 12:46 PM

I watched it, and it was very, um, different in some ways. Like, that part where Seras is having some sort of nightmare, I nearly fell off my chair because I really couldn't see that coming.
It has more comical aspects than the original series, which isn't bad. But one thing that bugged me was the music. I liked the original OST very much, and it was bit of a let down for me that they didn't use it for this.
But I do hope that OVA isn't just Hellsing with new style.

Peter Mar 4, 2006 12:55 PM

The original anime followed the manga storyline at first, but it went a totally different way with the whole Incognito thing. The new OVA will faithfully follow the manga, and they just decided to start from scratch, like there had never been a previous ova. The manga's being released in french (although you wouldn't understand dutchboy =D), and it's a pretty cool story (who wouldn't love Nazi vampires).

Casaubon Mar 4, 2006 03:09 PM

I didn't notice the music at first but yeah the old OST was a lot better. Someone mentioned a little comic relief which I also forgot, I thought some of it was funny but it didn't really seem to fit in for me.

Arkhangelsk Mar 4, 2006 06:40 PM

Oh shit yes! I forgot to mention that...the original music was so incredibly fitting to the series (quirky, like Kohta Hirano is). It went so well with the characters and action that even though I like the music in the OVA okay, it's just not the same.

And the ED theme is so overdramatic! It reminds me of an old cheesy Dracula movie in black and white. Not exactly in a bad way, but it's still kind of funny.

LivingDreams Mar 5, 2006 04:53 AM

The humor comic part didn't fit in in my opinion, it was nice but I think the hellsing series was better than these new ones.

wtran168 Mar 6, 2006 06:39 AM

So far I have been disappointed, but given that there has only been 1 OVA released, more has yet to come. I haven't read the manga as well so that may affect my judgement on this as well.

From what I've seen though the animation style is pretty good. I agree that the music from the original is definitely better.

lemonmanko Mar 6, 2006 11:52 AM

eh i didn't like it at all (first OVA)
its like.. they were trying to make Hellsing cool with the CG and lame one liners and its ALREADY cool without that shit

and the music sucked balls

hopefully the next one goes into what happened after episode 13 of the real series =/

To my knowledge it wont because this series is supposed to follow the manga a whole lot closer than the previous anime (the whole incognito shit doesnt exist in the manga) and is even being supervised by the mangaka himself.

Outlaw Mar 6, 2006 01:24 PM

For people who have not read the manga, please read it! It will make you understand the OVA much more better then just watching the TV series. Like I said, and Tokubetsu just said, everything that happened with Incognito was Gonzo's doing and not part of the true series. So this OVA, that will be following the manga all the way to the end, will not have anything to do with the TV series. Which means, NO POST-INCOGNETO STORYLINE. This isn't a sequel people, get over it.

Not to mention that the TV series also had CGI AND one liners. Or are you forgetting?

Sorry if I'm sounding a little ticked, I'm not. I'm just trying to make a point to people that seem to be missing the whole just of the new series.....

:cussing:

Trigunnerz Mar 20, 2006 01:03 PM

Anyone know where I can get the manga?

Animation wise, I like the OVA a lot better. It looks a lot more cleaner than the TV series. However, I do miss the color contrast they did on the TV series. Those looked real nice.

And ya, I must say the music on the OVA is lacking compared to the TV series.

I'm looking forward to the next episode. Any idea on the date of release?

So I guess in the next few weeks to a month.....

valiant Mar 20, 2006 05:45 PM

Very very cool, I wanted to see ep 2 for the longest time (see how it contrasts from the TV serie)

Arkhangelsk Mar 20, 2006 06:44 PM

I'm mostly waiting for the OVA to get past where the TV broke away from the manga...because personally, I think the original TV series did a fabulous job with that part of the storyline (this might have something to do with the fact that I just re-watched the entire TV series last night, with my roommate).

At the moment I'm really missing the TV's soundtrack, and the drawing of the teeth! That may seem like a silly thing to be irritated about (especially since the OVA is doing more of the 'shark-tooth' style that is actually in the comics), but I really loved seeing Alucard grin in the TV show. He has some of the best vampire choppers I've seen in anime, aside from Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust.

Paco Mar 20, 2006 07:12 PM

I'm downloading the first episode now, but it should be noted... Up until about 3 weeks ago, I had NEVER seen Hellsing.

Yes... That's right... Sue me...

I've been hanging out with some friends in Minessotta all weekend and we downloaded the 13 episodes from the TV series and watched them all back to back.

Everyone liked them OK, but I was just awed by the animation and story. It's also refreshingly good to see a shockingly gory series with so much flair. Can't wait until this is done downloading. :D

That's okay. My roomie wasn't even interested in it until she watched AMV Hell. Then I kept dropping hints (and telling her Crispin Freeman is wonderful as Alucard's VA in English).

You really, really should read the manga, though. It's far better than the original TV, and the OVA doesn't really do the art justice. Some people dislike Kohta Hirano's style, but I think it fits the storyline wonderfully.

Paco Mar 20, 2006 07:26 PM

Well... Since watching the series I also downloaded a couple manga scans and skimmed through them. I haven't really sat down to read them though, but the artwork is fucking awesome. It's too bad it's only monochromatic though, because I've gotten so used to watching Hellsing in its bloody and gory goodness that it's kind of hard to adapt to the change. :p

I have a bunch of color manga pictures you might be intrested in (YKO covers w/o the text mostly)....I attached a few to the post....

Also SOLID&ETC is a very good Hellsing fan art site...you might want to check them out too....

Arkhangelsk Mar 21, 2006 02:39 AM

I love the color illustrations... there's one specifically that I'd love to have in a higher resolution, but alas, I have no idea where to find it :(.
Also, Pu-sama on DeviantArt has some kick-ass (and bloody/gory) Hellsing fanart, not to mention awesome Violinist of Hameln fanart as well. I love her.

The major reason this OVA is being made is because the original anime didn't go in the direction the manga was.

Considering the first episode was a very, very close rendering of the original first volume of the manga, I'd say it's gonna happen.

Spoiler:
That, and the evil Nazi guy with glasses is at the end of the OVA, and many of the members of the army are in the end credits.

valiant Mar 29, 2006 09:42 AM

Yep. Heck, this OVA will also display the dawn (some sort of prequel with Walter and Alucard encountering the major antagonist in the serie in the past). I really hope the 2nd one comes out soon...I want to see how the potray the valentine bros and Pip <_<

Arkhangelsk Mar 31, 2006 12:10 AM

I was wondering if they were going to do something with The Dawn, since at the end of the credits
Spoiler:
they show "Young" Alucard, from the Dawn. Girly as hell, but it's still Alucard.

I'm not sure if they're going to incorporate The Dawn into the main storyline, or do something like a sidestory of sorts. I mean, from what the first episode was like, it seems that they are trying to put each volume of the manga in to each episode. But I guess we'll find out in April.

Outlaw Apr 10, 2006 09:45 PM

First off, I want to know what made some of you think that it was going to be in April? I mean consitering how the first one kept being pushed back (December to January to Febuary.). Good things take time you know....

chato Apr 10, 2006 10:04 PM

well... i can wait too ^^:. But thats a little ridiculous.. UNLESS they are taking their precious time on the singing part for Rip Van Winkle.

Arkhangelsk Apr 10, 2006 11:01 PM

Oh, I will wait any amount of time to hear Rip singing Der Freitschutz :).
But that does suck incredible amounts of ass, that we have to wait until August for the next episode. The only saving grace is that each episode of the OVA is like three of the original, so it kind of balances out.

Outlaw Apr 27, 2006 11:53 AM

There's a New trailer's up at the official site....See the exagerated, but a little better then Gonzo, OVA versions of Jan and Luke!

SuperSonic May 3, 2006 09:35 PM

Any idea when the dubbed version of this is coming out?

Outlaw Jul 3, 2006 10:48 PM

Acording to ANN, the original dub cast will be returning! No word yet on an offical release date for the dub as of yet...but according to an old magazine artical, October/November-ish.

Good News does come with some bad news, however. The second DVD won't be out in Japan until the 25th of August.

Trigunnerz Jul 4, 2006 02:54 AM

I really liked the voicing of Alucard. Sir Hellsing was pretty nice too. But I hated the police girl's one. Her accent seemed so fake for some reason.

Trigunnerz Aug 23, 2006 06:52 PM

Ultra bump. Any info on this OVA?

chato Aug 23, 2006 08:03 PM

There's that 1:17 trailer on ANN. Definately the Valentine Bros. fight. Luke looks more original and cool compare to the TV series look. At least Alucard still whistles =].

valiant Aug 26, 2006 05:55 AM

should be released <_<

well. I'm watching episode 2 right now. of course it is RAW. Here ya go..

edit : http://tracker.danomac.org/torrents/...8].avi.torrent

Spoiler:
Hopefully no one gets confused about Jan Valentine. The voice seiyuu is still the same guy. And finally we get some Luke Valentine action!!

A few new tracks came up in this episode. You won't be dissapointed.

devilmaycry Aug 27, 2006 10:16 AM

Yeah, but I wont' download it now because I don't understand a word of japanese. Any idea of when will the english subtitles be released?

chato Aug 27, 2006 10:22 AM

Hopefully Shinsen or AnimeOne. They're a few other fansub groups that subbed the first ep. So it'll come to us shortly.

devilmaycry Aug 27, 2006 11:02 AM

Hope so! Hellsing kick some major ass!

chato Aug 27, 2006 01:53 PM

It is kickass. Btw,dont read unless you saw the second episode.

Spoiler:
The whole episode was awesome . There was less cg which is a good thing. The fights and the way Seres Victoria shows her stuff was alot better compared to the TV version of Hellsing. Luke Valentine got his spotlight and they did a superb job working with it. Jan Valentine was his same old self.

Now then. As you know that the preview shows some good stuff. We WON'T be seeing Rip Van Winkle in this one I suppose. The credits show Montana Max (The Major), Pip Bernadotte (AWESOME) and Tubalcaine Alhambra.

I guess it's safe to say that we are getting more than what we hoped for ^^;.

This one works for me.

The 2nd episode was pretty cool. The music got better in my opinion, and the CG, while it was still gay, was better too. I liked how they focus on Luke a little more than in the original, and seeing him get owned by Alucard was a lot more pleasing.

Can someone just attach the torrent file? When I click on that link, all I get is another black window pops up. I know bit torrent works because I've been using it on this machine for about a few months now. I don't know why it's not giving me a torrent to download anymore.

The Plane Is A Tiger Sep 10, 2006 12:13 PM

Here you go. I had to put the torrent in a .zip file so it would allow me to post it as an attachment, but that should work. I can sympathize since several torrents don't work for me either for some reason. With ZW's releases of .Hack//Roots I have to right click Save As, add .torrent to the filename, and change it to All Files to save it. Clicking the link only brings up a page of gibberish for me, but it works fine for everyone else.

I can't wait to see this episode. I was beginning to think they had given up on releasing another one since I hadn't heard anything since the first episode back in February.

Cirno Sep 10, 2006 01:40 PM

Episode 2 was pretty sweet. Definitely more violent than OVA 1 and the CG use wasn't as glaring as before. I hated the Valentine arc in the original series, but found myself watching this episode at least five times through. Luke and Jan are (or were?) fun characters and I was glad that they expanded upon Luke more than they did in the original.

Next episode looks kind of boring. I'm just waiting for Rip Van Winkle.

element9867 Sep 12, 2006 07:17 PM

Im not sure If I like the animation style as much, the other looked darker.

SephirothStrife Sep 17, 2006 03:45 AM

The OVA is pretty cool. I liked how its tons more stylely...-ish.

Aswell as a huge bloodbath. Thats always nice.

I didnt really care for the police girl going. "YES MASTER MY MASTER!!!!" like every other second.

Each has there own ups and downs so far. But im all in for excess blood and mass style. so im in for the rest of the eps.

Jonus Sep 17, 2006 11:26 AM

Episode 2 was perfect imho. I would have to rewatch the old series to tell exactly what was better, but i guess its the ova seriousness.

Hellsing OVA 4

Oh and here are the seiyuus for this episode's newcomers:

Rip Van Winkle - Maaya Sakamoto =]
Shrodinger - Ryoko Shiraishi (Who didn't see that coming. ;p )

Nintendonomicon Mar 6, 2008 05:39 PM

OVA 4 is probably one of the most insane, intense, and disturbing pieces of animation I've seen (in a good way, of course). Particularly insane was Max's speech/rant.

Too bad the file I watched had horrible subtitles, which at times occupied the entire lower half of the screen with 4 lines of gigantic text. Unforgivable.

Montana Max is a crazy fucker.

That said, the OVAs only get better as they progress, animation and musicwise. Rip Van Winkles scenes were done excellently.

She's so moe.
