New Slayers anime series/season coming this Fall
Despite TRY, the third season of Slayers, ending over 10 years ago it appears as if Slayers is getting a fourth season (or would it be considered a new series after this long?) Apparently its a continuation of TRY and is an original story by Hajime Kanzaka (creator) not based off any previous novels or manga.
Its a bit of a surprise considering its age, but its a good surprise at that. Scans from Dragon Magazine - It gives a small glimpse as to what is to come (Well, it really just shows the main cast) The Anime News Network Article |
Wow this is excellent news for me. I just recently watched Slayers season 1 and working on the second with TRY hitting my doorstep. We need some Naga... but oh well. Doesn't hurt to see some more Lost Universe either..
|
I've always been a big fan of the slayers series. It has some of my most favourite outrageous moments of hilarity so I'm very excited about a 4th series coming out. There were always plenty of questions that remained unanswered to the series, so hopefully with this series we'll see some of those questions answered.
|
I finally have all of Dragon Ball on DVD so I thought I was basicly done with buying anime... Now my favorite series is getting a new season? Great I'm gonna become obsessed with Lina Inverse all over again.
|
wait...what?
fucking SLAYERS?!?! This is going to be the best year ever. Although i feel a little queasy about the animation (I never liked the Premium style...) this will be excellent. and it's all totally unexpected...i remember everyone thought Slayers died with Premium. |
Oh, that is awesome news. Totally loved Slayers back when I was first getting into anime. Definitely looking forward to this now.
|
Yeah, I bought and watched all of Slayers back in High School (about 5 years ago now) when they released them on DVD, but more recently I've been reading the novels (even though TokyoPop only released up through Vol. 8, which only finishes NEXT) and enjoying every bit of them. I just wish that they would have sold better so that it would warrant them bringing over Vol. 9 - 15 which would have been more of the "new" content.
So this new series is very exciting. I was really surprised when they released Premium a few years back since it was more to with the original series and not the Special spin-off with Naga. There was also a new animation with the release of the Japanese DVD releases and to commemorate their 10th anniversary. I suppose this could be a good indication as to what the new series may look like: Slayers - Meet Again Music Video |
The new animation looks like a much 'cleaner' version of NEXT. Not quite the digicell thing that Premium had going on, but good enough. I really wanted the characters looking like this though:
http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/9...7751084uu4.png http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...ap-7742403.png Without the 'glare' of course. I think that type of grittiness is perfect. In terms of story, I really hope its not the 'first 20 episodes are filler' and then the 'last 10 episodes are plot heavy' type of formula that Slayers suffers from--especially in NEXT. I also hope that they will include the serious drama on a larger scale (again, as seen in end of NEXT) Personally, a good, serious fight of Lina and the gang vs Xellos in a conflict of interest would make my day. Also hoping that Meet Again is not the real OP, since its wayy too bubbly =/ |
I wish I had read this sooner, especially due to massive Slayers nostalgia bias.
I also wish they would also bring back Filia but it seems like she was really delegated just for TRY. Any other details I guess, "sore ha himitsu desu ;)" At least there's lots to speculate about, such as what could trump Dragon Slayer and Ragna Blade. |

But then again, another big problem i hope they address in the new season is the fact that Lina tends to take the entire spotlight in the plot-centered episodes, leaving Zel and Amelia on the sidelines in terms of contributing something remotely useful. There should be something more central to these characters in the new plotline (Gourry is the love interest, I guess...), before they stick in Sylphiel or another major character like Filia. |
Oh god, yes. I haven't sought out a new anime series in quite awhile, so this is doubly fantastic news provided it can keep up the quality of humor the first 3 seasons had.

Now if only we could get a 4th season of Full Metal Panic this Fall will be the best season in a very long time. |
Man...this is even better then when they announced Valkyrie Profile 2.
I lost hope for a new season ages ago! I just hope that the guys look the way they looked in the previous series, rather thent the way they looked in Premium, I really didn't like the way Zelgadis, Gourry and Xellos looked. This made my day alright. |
Wow, I've only seen snippets & clips of the first series (Anyone care to point me to a Slayers Torrent? I'd like to get caught up) but that they're bringing back what's probably considered a classic series is interesting (and warrants a proper watching of what's existing right now).

It could be interesting, but who knows. Also a run in with Naga could be fun, since Gourry is the only one in the group who has met her(in the game only) But we wont really know much about this untll some more info is actually released |

Has everything, obviously. I'm also seeding this. Series order goes: Slayers TV/Original Slayers NEXT Slayers TRY Separate from the series are the OVA's and movies, which occur a year or two before the series timeline and feature a different cast: (Doesn't matter if you watch these or the series first, or what order you watch any of these in, except for Premium) Movies: (In order of release) Slayers Perfect (Officially called 'Slayers: The Motion Picture') Slayers Return Slayers Great Slayers Gorgeous Slayers Premium (This happens between Slayers NEXT and Slayers TRY and features the series cast) And the OVA's, about half hour long each--they go with the cast of the first four movies: Slayers Excellent (3 OVA's) Slayers Special/Book of Spells (3 OVA's) phew! lots to get into. thanks for the update aku. I don't know what to feel about Xellos, but maybe it will allow us some more insight into events like the War of the Monster's Fall. There were some cool historical stories that could be elaborated on. I guess this series, like TRY, will then end up focusing on plot instead of character development. I just hope that they don't give Xellos human emotion or anything. |
Oh yeah, I heard about this a few weeks ago, and it was a very nice surprise indeed! Had never thought it'd happen. I'll have to re watch all the old seasons later so that I can remember what the heck happened (I always forget plot and other important things of the things I've seen :eagletear:). Xellos being the main character sounds real interesting, I don't know how it'll turn out if it's true, but I really loved that character :D

It must be, he did give up his Sword of Light. Its gonna be weird seeing him without it, but I guess he's still as good as a swordsman with a different blade. Too bad though, I really wanted him to learn to control the full power of the Sword of Light like he did when he was being controlled by Phibrizzo. He was a freaking monster.
This is the first I heard about this blast sword you speak of, what does it do, exactly? |
ah, you haven't read the novels? You see, at the end of the series:
end of TRY+Novels:
Hope that helps |
Just happened to marathon through all of Slayers last winter again, before even hearing of this. Delightful news.
Glad to hear they got the old crew back on this. Crossing fingers that Hayashibara doesn't sound like obaasan now :) Well, don't have anything special to add. Links were interesting, maybe giving a bit of hint towards the revolution plot. playing those OPs & EDs all day now |
alright well i'll revive this topic. Note that all announcements are taken from QPDiana of the Slayersfan.com forums and her website here. (Her webpage has ALL updates, i'm just listing off the important details.)
Official Slayers Revolution Website here. SLAYERS REVOLUTION OPENING theme song 'Plenty of Grit' TV size aired over radio. Sung by Megumi Hayashibara and composed by the same guy who did Give a Reason. Ending song titled 'REVOLUTION' will be sung by Hayashibara and Masami Okui. Plenty of Grit (TV Size) Slayers Revolution (Anime) officially airs July 2nd. Source NAGA may appear in Slayers Revolution. source NEW BEST-OF SLAYERS ALBUM:

This topic is obviously dead, but if anyone is still interested in this anime then you'll be glad to know that Slayers Megumix (see above post for tracklist) was leaked onto the net:
320 kbps mp3 torrent lossless torrent the link is the large text bolded in red at the bottom, right under the ad for the laptop. Unfortunately, the only new material on the CD is the TV sized versions of the new OP/ED and Megumi's version of Somewhere in the World (Filia's ending song at the end of TRY) Again, the anime starts airing July 2nd, so a topic title change would be nice ;) |
Thanks! I've been looking for this. I hope the new show is good.
EDIT: Plenty of Grit is pretty kick ass! |
Even though there are only three new tracks Slayers always had some of my favorite OP/ED songs, so a compilation soundtrack works just fine for me. Besides, my versions of a lot of those are at different volumes and sound weird when burned together, so a replacement is more than welcome.
So happy to hear this is starting on July 2nd. I missed that post before, and it's perfect timing since Tower of Druaga ended last week. |
alright, the anime hits Japan tomorrow, and two fansub groups, Toki Fansubs and Aquastar Anime are working together on Slayers Revolution.
Eclipse subs is also working on it. EDIT: the anime airs on TV Tokyo every Wednesday at 1:20AM (GMT +9). RAW Episode 1 Part 1 RAW Episode 1 Part 2 RAW Episode 1 Part 3 The animation is flawless, all the colors look amazing HD. There's a lot of nostalgia, too--most background music is taken from the original OST's and the characters utter some famous lines from series past. the slapstick humor is still the same, but i guess that never gets old, heh. |
Couldn't resist watching the RAW, and good old Slayers it was to the core <3
Sexy OP and ED, addicting even. As Pokey mentioned, that indeed looks like Luna, tho it might be a tease again ;_; |
The OP shows quite a bit, actually. An ominous celestial ring in the sky keeps appearing (probably central to the story), Xellos is shown multiple times in his true form (a big black cone) and i'm pretty fucking sure that either the beast or the woman (or both) is Zelas. Zelas/Xellos duo possible villains, maybe?
*imagines Lina vs Xellos* The sheer epic of that idea is orgasmic... EDIT: alright, it appears as though Eclipse Productions is handling the subbing of this anime, as they've already released an episode in AVI and h264 format. grab it now! I was mistaken in the opening, the waitress is NOT Luna and the beast/noblewoman is NOT Zelas, although Zelas shows up here: (Confirmed by Watanabe) ImageShack - Hosting :: op439mz2.jpg The beast is a chimera named Ducris, who has shown up in the novels. The waitress and noblewoman are both new characters. |
Saw the first 2 episodes, it has potential. I don't expect anything like NEXT again, but it will at least be a good watch.
I was surprised that they re-used the old Slayers music. I love it! |
Has there been any news of this getting licensed? It's a bit weird how ep. 7 was delayed for a week until an "anonymous" subber put it out as VivaLaRevolution, followed by Eclipse posting their 1-6 batch and supporting that group.
|
Quote:
It has been removed due to request from FUNimation Entertainment. There's no news on whether it's been licenced, but seeing as the previous Slayers are all licenced, it would be stupid of them not to, especially since its popular. Please note that FUNimation are acting on the behalf of the Japanese IP owners, Enoki Films, or more like, employed, as this person has posted: http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost...&postcount=781 This is the reason why I haven't downloaded a single sub, just youtubed the raw to see the new animation style. I knew this was inevitable. Source: http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=63206 For more info on the cease and desist, read here: http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=70096 |
It's not like that will stop the subs for a series as popular as Slayers. I just hope VivaLaRevolution starts putting out .avi versions too like Eclipse had been doing. .mkv is great and all, but I want a format that my 360 will play so I can watch it on my TV.
|
Ah, no wonder I haven't been seeing any more Slayers episodes pop up recently. I wouldn't mind buying it, but at the same time, it'll probably be ages before the complete series of Revolution comes to dvd over here. I'm not itching to know what happens next so far, but something neat like Pokota teaming up with Lina would be a good guess as an eventuality. Also, Xellos' current role is probably the only other thing that intrigues me currently in the story.
|
You must be several episodes behind, Summonmaster.
Spoiler:
|
Oh no, I've seen up to 6 but:
Spoiler:
|
So any news if there's a mystery fansub group that will continue to sub it?
|
I'm not sure why no one is subbing eps 8 & 9. A second mystery group even subbed 7 for no apparent reason, but then both groups seem to have vanished.
|
Are the links still out for 7? It seems like Funimation is strong arming this seriously
|
The VivaLaRevolution links for 7 on Tokyo Toshokan still work, but apparently D-R pulled theirs already. Not sure why they bothered to sub 7 instead of 8 or 9 anyway.
|
Quote:
http://www.mjewing.co.uk/mewsings/pix/farnsworth.jpg Episode 8 has been subbed. Now to add to the existing pile of Geass that I missed |
Where's the sub of episode 8? The only one I've seen was in Italian, and that's not terribly helpful.
|
Yeah I just realized that when I started playing it on VLC. :( It was quite a letdown. Well, I can understand a little, I should try to do some kind of translation...
|
|
hey tritoch, the torrent link to episode 9 has a misleading title, its actually episode 8. can you fix that link?
just watched episode 8 though, fantastic stuff. Spoiler:
|
I just double-checked, and they both seem to be correct. All I did was copy/paste the links from Tokyo Toshokan for convenience, so just go there and do a search for Slayers. VLR posted a high quality version of ep. 9 a little later if anyone prefers those.
|
Oh yeah, episode 8 has definately been the highlight so far.
The more I see of him, the more mysterious this wiser gets, even Xellos can't figure him out. Btw. I really don't like Zelgadis's new voice. I really miss the old one, any idea what the deal is? |
Quote:
ep. 8 and briefly 9:
As for Zelgadis' voice, I watched everything but the movies dubbed so Crispin Freeman will always be Zelgadis to me. |
