Addictions

So who here is addicted to something?

I have only one addiction - Chocolate. I've always loved it and I can never get enough of it. When I go without it for a few days, I get definite cravings for it, something I don't really get for anything else. It's bad, but I can control it... I don't splurge, I just fill the craving and I'm usually good afterwards.

Paco Dec 25, 2007 12:45 AM

I used to be addicted to cocaine but for now I'll just stick with alcohol. But I don't drink on weekdays. Unless you count this last week. Then I'm a common drunk. Cheers!

I recently bought these fudge wafers that I havent had since I was a kid... now every time I walk by them, i need to eat like, 5. And I've purposely been walking by them at times... now I'm really getting addicted.

One thing I can be really addicted to, as odd as it sounds, is AIM. I dont need to be on ALL the time, but I'm one of those people that checks away messages constantly, changes mine all the time, is on usually once a day... I've gotten better since high school and the beginning of college, but it still can be pretty bad. I've recognized my problem, and thats the first step. I'm starting AIM Anonymous in January.

Wall Feces Dec 25, 2007 12:55 AM

Hm, never thought about internetz... I guess I'm a definite internet addict as well then. I spend most of my time on it unless I'm socializing, which since I'm home in new hampshire, I'm usually not.

No. Hard Pass. Dec 25, 2007 01:06 AM

I had a pretty nasty coke habit in high school. Luckily I had the money to pay for it, so it never really alienated me from people. As it stands, I still won't do it more than maybe once a month. Just out of fear of falling back into that trap. I also had a real problem with the bottle by grade 12, but I'm basically just a social drinker. Though I certainly self-medicate from time to time when I'm miserable.

I've certainly been accused of sexual addiction, though I don't call that an addiction, I call that common fucking sense to enjoy getting your dick sucked by a hot chick.

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Dec 25, 2007 01:32 AM

I've but one true addiction: caffiene. I'm the stereotypical guy who's always fidgety and toting a bottle of cola or thermos of coffee. But I've got two reasons for my addiction: Aside from the surge in wakefulness, caffiene also relaxes the smaller airways in the lungs. I can always breathe easier after a couple coffees or cans of Coca-Cola. But I definitely like the mental pick-me-up too. I'm also known to enjoy mass quantities of chocolate at times, as well. I like the taste, but I'm well aware of the caffiene content - the primary objective. (Chocolate-covered coffee beans are like cocaine for me.)

Aside from when I'm ill, I drink at least one or two cans of Coke within the first two hours of my day. If I leave the house, I switch to coffee, as there's three Tim Horton's shops within driving distance, plus we sell okay coffee at my workplace.

By 8PM, I'm usually wired and don't slow down until around 5AM. This is bad when I have to work the next day, though I'm able to curb the habit back when I know I'm getting up early the following day. But the caffiene addiction definitely wreaks havoc on my circadean rhythms. I don't mind it most of the time, as I have some of my best ideas at 2AM when all else is quiet and I can focus.

I doubt I'll ever kick it, nor do I really want to. Caffiene has its uses and it's totally legal. Why not enjoy my one vise?

THIEF Dec 25, 2007 02:15 AM

Alcohol.

I know its a problem when a) drinking alone b) drinking on weekdays c)drunk before 7pm

Miles Dec 25, 2007 02:35 AM

Chocolate milk and coffee. Those two are what I drink for breakfast every day. Don't know what I'd do without it. And somehow I still manage to stay skinny!

I have a very addictive personality and I am always bingeing on something. Cigs, pot and morphine are my main vices. I also chew tobacco vigorously and whenever possible. I don't believe any of my addictions are too harmful as I shift from vice to vice rather easily so that I spare the problem areas the means for drastic irritation. It's all about finding a good cycle.
I think there is a level of self control that I have so that I can justify the means for NOT STOPPING.

I have never been able to do that. My stomach can't handle it that early on in my day. No matter how late I wake up, I need atleast 2 hours before I can put a soda in my stomach.

Misogynyst Gynecologist Dec 25, 2007 10:28 AM

Coffee, sex, beer, shopping online.

I have a ton of vices. One more and I can't support myself any longer.

RABicle Dec 25, 2007 11:19 AM

The internet is probably my only real addiction. I jsut load it up all the fucking time and trawl around to the same bullshit sites and waste away time. When I go a day without the internet, it feels weird.

Otherwise I don't really have the addictive personality. I live with at least one alcoholic, be it housemate Sam, or Mum when I'm at home. I always have easy access to massive amounts of beer, wine, spirits and despite the fact that I drink more then once every two days, I'm not addicted at all. I'll be dry for weeks at a time without even realising.

Not the net though.

Pfft move to Australia. Here, those are three symptoms of a happy, healthy man.

Most people don't realise, but chocolate milk is made from skim milk.

Syndrome Dec 25, 2007 02:05 PM

My only physical addiction is nicotine. In Sweden, we have a tobacco product, called Snus, which is wet and grinded tobacco in small pouches (tea-bag) which you put under your lip. I think it's called snuff in the states. Have been using this for at least 3-4 years now, and it contains more nicotine than a cigarette so obviously you get addicted.

Mentally, I'd say I'm definitely addicted to the Internet. Spending most of my awake time in front of the web and even skipping other activities because of it is the reason I call it an addiction. And it disturbs me as hell, just sitting here all day.

Justin Dec 25, 2007 02:29 PM

My addictions are my wines and my car, lol. I can't live without em!

DarkMageOzzie Dec 25, 2007 05:53 PM

Addictions? Anime, Cartoons, Video Games, Caffeine, and Chicken. Seriously, I eat chicken more than anything else I can think of.

Wall Feces Dec 25, 2007 06:07 PM

Props for the chicken love :D

I wouldn't say I'm addicted to it, but it's certainly an insatiable craving, especially my dad's homemade cutlets. Yum yum...

The_Griffin Dec 25, 2007 09:19 PM

The internet, games, and sex. I don't know what I'd do without any of them. :(

One of those is a dirty lie...

...and I suspect its the gaming~~~

Spike Dec 26, 2007 01:15 AM

Definitely the internet. Actually, watching stupid/amusing/cool videos on the internet. It's not too bad that I lose sleep watching them, but it's the closest thing I have to an addiction.

kat Dec 26, 2007 04:39 PM

Driving. Sorry environment :(

I'm too much of a punk to walk and despise being pressed up against people in public transportation

Infected Dec 26, 2007 04:42 PM

Hmm mine would be
Sex - I could say the usual reasons I suppose. Ya know...The rush etc. But I just think I just love sex. I have a huge sex drive, while I could live without it,I dont want to.
Tattoo's - Its the buzz. I love the feeling of the needle across my skin and the rush afterwards is addictive.
Peircings - Something new to fiddle with. And a few of the above reasons.

Paco Dec 26, 2007 05:11 PM

Care to elaborate on that? Or should I just hand out the infraction for spam now?

Midna Dec 26, 2007 05:29 PM

I think sprout and I were separated at birth. My addictions are the internet and chocolate, and I'm having terrible success kicking either habit.

Let me know if your kids need a step-father.

Krelian Dec 27, 2007 12:50 AM

Used to be caffeine, but I curbed that early this year. Then it was cigarettes. And before I knew it I was on three packs a week. So now I only smoke socially. Most recently I've noticed a tendency towards dipsomania in myself. As soon as I go back to school, this will stop. I hope.

Oh, and sugar. Once a week I head into town and stock up on the kinds of sherbert-frosted gummy transfats that I was constantly refused as a kid. WELL. Now I can quietly gloat at tantrum-stricken brats tearing at the ankles of their teenage mothers, bawling their eyes out for diabetes-incurring treats. Aha!

edit: I ctrl-f'd 'anime' in this thread. there is no god

Woah, it's like you read my mind. But if you read my mind, would you read it in Espanol or English?

Bernard Black Dec 27, 2007 05:39 AM

Cigarettes. It's the same old story, I tried them for the hell of it and now life is so fucking hard without them. It's actually quite bizzare because I started on Embassy and Marlboro Reds and now I can't smoke anything but menthols without retching. I'm kicking the habit this New Year's; it'll be my 3rd year running =/

The internet of course. I have been too drunk the past few nights to actually be online but here I am first thing in the morning with an incredible hangover because I miss using the internet. As RAB says, going a day without using it feels so odd.

Ushgor Dec 27, 2007 07:22 AM

WoW probably, i tried to stop like 5 times this year and i always feel miserable, so i go back and I'm all happy again ^_^

Kimchi Dec 27, 2007 07:22 AM

I am addicted to video games :gonkmelt:. Can never get enough of 'em.

Philia Dec 27, 2007 08:08 AM

Same here Kimchi. My pink DS got whored out enough.

For the serious, I play a lot rentals and finished several. I have a huge backlog (75+ so far) that I flipflop between new games to old games every now and then. I'm into gaming so much that I love vgm for this reason. If you hear this battle track for like say 500 times wouldn't you grow to love it? I have been playing games since ping pong. I'm probably more committed than addicted.

Portal is a good excellent current example of how awesome gaming can be.

Elixir Dec 27, 2007 01:36 PM

I've been addicted to this instant chocolate milk for years. Two scoops in a glass of milk and a bit of movement, and you're set. It leaves a crusty top which is probably the best part. You can't reach it because it's on an angle when you're drinking it, but you can in the last mouthful. I've never bothered with coffee or tea, or beer, or smoking, or any of those addictions. I'm addicted to chocolate milk. :(

Oh, and gaming, and internet.

Elegy Dec 28, 2007 11:25 PM

Sweets and Dr.Pepper. I try to limit myself to them every other day at the very least, but I have to have them!

Angelwing Dec 30, 2007 05:15 PM

Kraft Dinner, Gargoyles, and birds.

Oh, and cheese. Those are probably the big ones.

I have this weird ass addiction when it comes to electronics.

I keep buying "newer" or "special" editions. ~_~. (iPod-NDS-PSP-Korean MP3/PMP/MP4)

Yes I know exactly what you mean. I finish the game once I start. The only game I gave down is Megaman X3 on PC (I was grade 3 :gonkmelt:) and Nintendogs... (it was meh.)

OmagnusPrime Dec 30, 2007 08:00 PM

Chocolate and buying stuff. Actually I don't know if I could quite claim full addicition on either, but I do love buying stuff an unhealthy amount. To the extent that when I have money I have to decide what to spend it on, or I plan what to spend my next lot of money on. And then I go and buy little odds and sods anyways. Certainly if I can find some vague justification for it I'm more than happy to buy things I possibly could do without.

I have immense issues controlling my urges to buy stuff as well. Most of the time it's just little things that I'll see an just buy without a second thought, only to get home and look at the shit I wasted my earnings on and wonder what I was thinking at the time of buying it. Sometimes though, I'll see something for a larger amount of money and do the exact same thing, just buy it, and if I'm wracked with guilt enough and the situation permits, I'll return it, but I usually just end up keeping, and throwing it in the pile of crap that I have amassed.

Pretty much makes saving up for things/managing debts a huge hassle for me.

Divest Dec 31, 2007 01:34 PM

Haha, oh man this'll be fun.

Current addictions:
  • Caffiene
  • Alcohol
  • Marijuana
  • Vicodin
  • Cigarettes

Past addictions:
  • Coke
  • Speed
  • Valium
  • Alcohol
  • Caffiene
  • Vicodin
  • Euphedrin
  • Cigarettes

I'm sure I'm forgetting some past ones as well. I've done plenty of other things but I couldn't honestly say I was addicted to them.

Hachifusa Jan 1, 2008 03:39 PM

I'm just a kid, as my only addiction is caffeine, which is pretty intense. Still, I am beginning to drink a lot of alcohol when I go out, and I go out a lot. While it is nowhere near addiction status, I fear it might be someday in the future.

Are these addictions inherently bad? I notice a lot of us are mentioning things and then semi-apologizing for it. I never really cared about my caffeine addiction, and considering that the regulars around here like to be so nonchalant about their meth addiction or whatever, I figure they, too, don't care too much about their addictions.

Zeal Jan 2, 2008 09:06 AM

GFF MY ONLY ADDICTION...................

BUT NOW I FREE....:dover::dovel::dover::dovel::dover:

Cameo Jan 2, 2008 09:36 AM

Physical addiction would be cigarettes.
My main other addiction would have to be vinyl though. I have loads of things I cherish, but if anything happened to my Drum & Bass collection I don't know how I'd cope. It's taken so much time and money to find some of the rarer bits in my box, I would kill anyone who tried to take them from me!

Traveller87 Jan 2, 2008 12:00 PM

I've got a physical addiction to chocolate. I don't mean that in the "I just enjoy chocolate" sense, but I've got an unhealthy relationship towards it. Feeling down - craving chocolate - eating loads - feeling terribly guilty, worse than before - ... It's a vicious cycle, and I've tried to quit many times (currently trying again).

Baked Pussy Jan 3, 2008 09:48 AM

I'm addicted to Cap'n Crunch. (the cereal is so yummy)
I'm addicted to internet (myspace, youtube, mtv, etc.)
I'm addicted to water (I realize that I'm drinking more than what the requirements are for fluid intake).

Now I'm getting addicted to reality shows, which I hated before. >_< (it seems that reality shows is what's "in" now and it's on every channel.

Sian Jan 3, 2008 12:17 PM

Coke...as in Coca Cola, i'm not that hardcore. I think it was the caffeine and the sugar that got me, I don't like coffee so it was my way of a caffeine fix. I've drank Coke Zero since it's been out, slowly but surely i'm trying to stop it all together and replace it with water...even though I don't particulary like water ;_;.

Chicken, I'm in on that addiction. I don't particulary like any other meat, and I don't feel as bad eating chicken for some reason >_>.

The Internet, it's my main form of communication with all my friends around the globe. I can live without internet sites but I couldn't live without not talking to my friends.

Music. Listening to it, playing it, being obsessed with play counts (most played songs, artists, general last.fm type stats), talking about it, seeing it live - my favourite addiction <3.

Movies. I could watch a film any time of the day, no matter what it is. I've probably spent most of my money that i've ever earned or received on DVDs.

Kamui Jan 4, 2008 12:25 AM

Smoking. Been smoking since I was 14. The amount of money and time I spent still amaze me but still doesn't change that fact.

Gaming but it's being curbed.

Started to pick up on a drinking problem...

Takiaena Jan 4, 2008 08:40 AM

I was addicted to "flyff", a mmorpg, during almost one year ^^
Now I don't care about it anymore :)
I was also addicted to chocolate and milk when I was younger x)
I think my current addictions are playing piano and listening to music ^^

Servilonus Jan 7, 2008 03:48 PM

Probably just food in general...Sometimes it's hard to stop eating when I start, and I fall victim to bad judgment, especially at home. Example there being I'm cooking something and decided what else to eat while the food is being prepared. It's such a bitch to try a diet.

Besides that, just procrastination in general I seem to be very bad with.

Furby Jan 7, 2008 11:38 PM

my addiction is 2 things.. Ecstasy and adrenaline. I do alot of raving so it is to be expected that I would eventually get into doing that stuff but as of now I'm on my way to stopping it and never doing it again..

And Adrenaline is my other.. I love going on the highway and racing at speeds that I know will get my heart racing and my blood rushing.. or hitting up the cliffs in my car and taking it at blinding speeds. I love that feeling of feeling like I'm about to die. I know it's stupid to do that.

Squib Jan 8, 2008 01:40 AM

Blue Powerade.

I buy an 8 pack every week when I get groceries and I drink 1 or more per day. I'm home for break so I can't take a pic of my empty powerade bottle collection (hah) that I have at my apartment though. Collecting them because I'm too lazy to take them out to the recycling bin every week so I just leave them in my room to recycle at the end of the year.

webjay Jan 8, 2008 10:51 AM

The Internet. And film music.

I poked it and it made a sad sound Jan 8, 2008 11:01 AM

Cigarettes and coffee, really.

I smoke a pack a day, give or take based on circumstance. I drink at least a cup of coffee a day. If I do not get my coffee, I get really bad headaches.
