Street Fighter - The Legend of Chun-Li

Quote:

"Smallville" star Kristin Kreuk will play Chun-Li in Hyde Park Entertainment's Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li! Directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak from a Justin Marks script, the action pic starts filming in Thailand in March, 2008. 20th Century Fox will distribute the live-action feature based on Capcom's video game. The movie is focused on female fighter Chun-Li and her journey for justice.
Kristin Kreuk is Chun-Li in Street Fighter! - ComingSoon.net

There are so many video game and comic book adaptations lately that it seems like there will be no victory in the box office for that genre because of constant failures.
Kreuk does seem to resemble chun-li to some extent but I've seen her fight in smallville so she better step up her game for the movie if this has a remote chance of being a hit.
Let's face it though, people will go watch it as long as they advert the spinning bird kick on their trailers and commercials constantly.

Dark Nation Dec 21, 2007 08:03 PM

Kristen Kruek? She's fine as hell, but her 'acting' leaves a lot to be desired.

Prediction: DOA, but with less tits.

Megalith Dec 21, 2007 09:08 PM

No offense, but what legend.

Legend of Blanka.

Grail Dec 21, 2007 10:05 PM

Movie of the year, 2008

Also, she won't be able to fight at all, her best speciality is turning her back when the music gets sad.

xiaowei Dec 21, 2007 10:13 PM

Hearing Kristen Kruek say "Kikoken" will be worth the admission.

Hantei Dec 22, 2007 01:58 AM

Kruek eh? Well at least she has a hint of an asian look. Better than Jessica Biel, who was long ago rumoured/suspected to play Chun Li. Personally I thought Kelly Hu would have been a better casting.

Karasu Dec 22, 2007 02:44 AM

I really really hope they make this film good, because they have a good 'revenge' type of story here. They could add the genuine drama and deepness factor of it, without coming off as a kill bill crap clone or a lame video game movie. Chun Li has a story that CAN be made into a good film. The problem is I think they're gonna have to sacrifice the intelligence factor of this potential great film in turn for a "Chinese girl learns how to fight with spike braclets and huge thighs! Wow!" and give the movie horrible hip hop music as it's soundtrack.

Because god forbid, fighting game fans or video game fans use their brains to watch a film.

S_K Dec 22, 2007 10:46 PM

Wow I had to do a double take because I honestly thought it was a joke to start with. But hey if a Dragonball Z movie is being made this as a concept is normal in comparison! I'm with Dark Nation on this one, it's going to be bad I'm almost certain of that, it's just a question of how bad.

KK as Chun Li

Welp, I can't really diss her about that because I wanted to add her on my myspace account, but I just hope she pulls it off well. The other thing I hope is that it has intelligent dialogue. I know some people will like it, and some people won't like it, but at least it's being done, it's better than nothing done at all. Otherwise, if I wanted to hire an actress for my comic series to movie screen, I'd hire her.

Cheersaroonie,

Blanka's life story should be on the Biography channel, done all serious with him learning to shock from watching electric eels and talking unintelligently for two hours while periodically stopping to throw a watermelon at someone off-screen. Morgan Freeman could narrate. It'd be awesome.

And we all know Jackie Chan was the best Chun-Li.

Grundlefield Earth Dec 23, 2007 10:25 PM

Oh Kreuk can definitely act. Her best work has been in the latest seasons of Smallville. True, her acting was sometimes off in the earlier seasons, so I can see why one would assume that, but not in the past two-3 years.

Anyway, Street Fighter is not highly interesting regardless. Doubt it will good.

Shenlon Dec 23, 2007 10:31 PM

well chances are they'll drag more people in with more street fighters and cameos.
I'm guessing they'll put in Cammy and instead of promoting with boobies, they'll promote all the luscious thigh action.
And who knows, maybe they'll decide to use someone who wasn't in the adams family for Bison ~_~

That jackie chan clip is shown everywhere where street fighter is mentioned ^^
Its too bad thats the only good part of the movie, the rest just blows.

Vemp Dec 24, 2007 04:27 AM

I would like to see Jean-Claude Van Damme in that movie. How could it be Street Fighter without Van Damme?!

Divest Dec 27, 2007 01:29 PM

That chick is smoking hot but I'm sorry, this movie is going to fall flat on it's face just like Hitman.

DarkMageOzzie Dec 27, 2007 01:49 PM

I think the question here is not whether or not this movie will be good. The question is will it be as bad as the first Street Fighter movie we got?

Divest Dec 27, 2007 01:59 PM

Come on, the first street fighter movie was good in a shitty movie kind of way. Not too much unlike the Evil Dead series, esp. Army of Darkness.

This is going to be complete and utter shit just like Hitman was.

DarkMageOzzie Dec 27, 2007 02:21 PM

I would definately not put the original Street Fighter movie on the same level as Evil Dead. The only thing I found remotely entertaining about it was Zangief yelling "Quick! Change the channel!" when he saw something on the security camera.

Divest Dec 27, 2007 05:50 PM

It wasn't as bad as Super Mario Bros movie.

DarkMageOzzie Dec 27, 2007 09:21 PM

Well not much was as bad as the Super Mario movie. Since... that movie didn't even pull off being cheesy funny or really funny at all that I can remember. Seems like we're doomed to suffer really bad video game based movies.

As long as Uwe Boll doesn't direct it, I would rather a movie based on Blanka. A movie based on blanka would have so much drama in it, theres tragedy, comedy, action and even some romance of his bitch dumps him and he accidently kills her new lover and she thinks he did it on purpose cause she dumped him.

Btw Kristen Kruek's thighs aren't even as big as Chun-Li's, that will be a problem.

she may have the physical capabilities when the training is over but yeah your right, she won't have the physic unless she has some sort of thigh implant....oh man I just had a flash of the blood rayne movie ~_~

Sian Jan 3, 2008 12:30 PM

Oh man, I loved the cheesy Street Fighter movie when I was a kid. I had it recorded off T.V onto video, but it must've got taped over because I haven't seen it since ;_;. But a whole movie about Chun-Li? Cammy all the way! And I have mixed feelings about the Smallville chick being lead.

I'm with Vemp, get Jean Claude as a cameo for old times sake.

Manny Biggz Jan 5, 2008 01:00 AM

If it's anything like she was in SFIII:3S, she'll be blocking and doing random low kick pokes for 90% of the fight scenes. Can't wait to see that awesome turtle action in the big screen!

Angel of Light Jan 12, 2009 06:01 PM

First of all I would like to apologize for bumping a thread that is over a year old. I thought it would be better to post in this thread than to make a new thread based on this movie.

To the people that are interested the trailer for this movie is online for the last couple of weeks. I just wanted to share it with everybody.

YouTube Video

The thing is I don't really expect much out of this movie. This is one of those movies that you know is probably going to be bad but your still going to see it just to see if it is better than the live action street fighter movie. I'm just getting a big laugh out of this. It will probably have some decent fight scenes but that's about it.

It is still great to see Robin Shou back in a martial arts film. I'm going to see the movie anyway. Why? I'm just a glutton for punishment besides it seems like the spring is the perfect time to watch craptacular martial arts movies. With this movie and Dragonball: Evolution I'm sure I'll have my share of bad movies before the summer season even hits.

chato Jan 12, 2009 06:27 PM

This movie makes the JCVD version the best live action SF of all time. At least Raul Julia had the right outfit on. This guy is playin bison looks garbage.

Shenlon Jan 14, 2009 10:09 PM

yes, this movie doesn't look any good as everyone predicted. No upskirt shots or anything. Fail

VitaminZinc Feb 26, 2009 03:30 AM

I had totally forgotten this movie was even coming out. My ex-gf reminded me of it, cause she's a huge SF fan. She said it looked worse than the first one.

So, after watching the trailer, I'd have to agree. At least the first one had Kylie Minogue...

And the trailer itself... Come on. Where was Chun Li? It's her 'Legend' right? Shouldn't they be showing her? Geez.

You do remember just how bad the first Street Fighter movie was, right? Sure the trailer doesn't look amazing, but worse than the first film, say what now.

VitaminZinc Mar 1, 2009 04:33 AM

I'll download it and check. It's true I haven't seen it in a long time.

Point being, this new one looks bad.

Has anyone seen this yet, btw?

lemonmanko Mar 1, 2009 07:36 AM

i have
its so bad that its good just like the first one
can't wait to see this movie again but more drunk.

Thanatos Mar 1, 2009 11:01 PM

Didn't know why I even bothered to buy the ticket for the show. Watched, and felt like wasted my cash on it.

Looks like I might have to eat my words on this one. I've not seen it yet, but I've read a few reviews and it sounds like this could possibly be worse than the original film. Good lord.

Timberwolf8889 Mar 5, 2009 05:37 PM

I don't know, I'm thinking this movie will shape up to be some reasonably funny crap cinema. The trailer made me giggle anyway...

knkwzrd Mar 5, 2009 05:45 PM

I saw this two nights ago, and it's the perfect horrible yet entertaining movie. Everything about it is so poorly done, the costumes, the directing, the acting, the script, everything. It was hilarious. This is going to be more popular in ten years. Worse than the first Street Fighter live action, but in the best way possible.

Sir, you've just sold me on this film. The type of film where you gather junk food and loud friends and make a night of it. I'm actually looking forward to it now. Is that wrong?

Sian Mar 6, 2009 06:00 PM

I'm always up for a bit of crappy cheesy cinema.

I doubt they could ever make a decent live action film out of this game. The animated film wasn't so bad.

Angel of Light Mar 23, 2009 08:12 PM

I went to see it the last time I was home with one of my friends who is an exceptionally good player when it comes to anything street fighter in terms of video games.

My honest impressions. I'll put it to you this way, the movie was barely, and I mean just barely above the $10 I paid to see it. It was bad, but it wasn't bad enough to make me leave the theatre.

Especially Chris Klein, his character has got to be some of the worse acting I've ever seen in my entire life.

I thought the fight scenes were ok and I actually liked how Bison, and Balrog were portrayed and Kristin Kruek did a fairly good job as Chun Li. It was also good to see robin shou in another martial arts film even though the movie wasn't very good.

Overall, it was a pretty bad film but there was a guilty part of me that actually liked it.

This really bugged me. Everytime Klein was on screen he'd try give some weird serious face, that came out wrong, it didn't help didn't help that he was overacting for pretty much the entirety of the movie. Everytime he appeared on screen he would do something that annoyed the hell outta me.

I actually saw this on the opening weekend with a friend (just out of curiousity on our part, wondering if it could be any worse than the first), if you ignore the fact that it has anything to do with street fighter then it's a pretty ok martial arts flick. Though I gotta admit it was neat seeing some references to some things in street fighter; such as Chun-Li's spinning bird necklace, and Bison's daughter being an incarnation of his goodness and naming her Rose.
