Duke Nukem Forever Teaser Trailer Coming Tomorrow
Posted by 3D Realms staffer George Broussard on the official 3D Realms forums:
Last Saturday we had our annual company Christmas party. It was a lot of fun as usual but it featured one special surprise. It turns out that several people had been secretly working late nights and into the wee hours of the morning preparing a special video for those at the party. They created a short teaser for Duke Nukem Forever. After seeing the teaser we thought it was something we should share with all of you and while it's just a teaser, rest assured more is coming. Tomorrow, Wednesday the 19th, around noon CST, we will release the first teaser trailer from Duke Nukem Forever. To tide you over until then, here is a screen shot taken from the teaser. Thank you for being fans of the game and for your continued patience. I'd like to thank the people on the team that worked so hard to create this teaser and the friends of 3DR that helped create it (Jeremy Soule and Julian Soule, Frank Bry, Jason Evigan and of course, Jon St. John). And, the accompanying image that they released: http://www.picupload.net/f-effbf1b13...9a77153bbe.jpg Source: 3D Realms Forums http://xs222.xs.to/xs222/07513/Duke.gif |
No way.
Well, if there is no trailer buy the promised time I say close this shit and wait next decade for another announcement. |
Based off that picture, I can see a Duke Nukem movie in the works starring Ron Perlman :(
|
The image doesn't look very good, really, for a current-gen title. Is it still running on the Doom 3 engine?
|
The image looks like pretty much every next-gen pic we see that hasn't been photoshopped to hell. They never did get around to anti-alias.
I await the teaser out of curiosity if not excitement. The last few DN games have been quite awful, so we shall see if a new true sequel will be any good in this day and age. I hope to god they get rid of all the excess "trademarks" like the golden desert eagles and stick with what made him great originally. |
Why not use the HAVOK engine since its rather popular and not rather dated like the D3 engine?
with these graphics, it looks like a port to the Wii is inevitable (mind you without some of Duke's comments, let alone axing the strippers :( ). |
Havok is not a graphics engine :rr:
You probably mean Source. |
I was more or less meaning a physics engine, but I don't have any high hopes on correct physics in my Duke Nukem games.
|
Quote:
*ahem* Yeah, this looks completely like the Doom 3 engine. They should have made it cell-shaded, like Paper Mario or Jet Grind Radio. Then it would have really been interesting to see the prositutes and their giant bazookas, not to mention their twin guns, and probably over-exaggerated 80s hairstyles. Also their breasts, but that's not the focus of what we're talking about. I like how his cigar isn't even lit up. Someone forgot that little piece of texture. |
Havok doesn't necessarily mean "realistic" or "correct" physics either. It's been used in everything from a Rainbow Six game to Dawn of Mana, so~
Let's hope it's not UE3. ::waits 20 minutes for Duke's hair texture to pop in:: |
Not too far back they had job opportunities for people experienced with the Unreal Engine that wanted to work on a "project" coming to XBOX360 & PC.
In any case. Balls of Steel. |
Oh sure, I make a tame joke or two and posts get removed. Is this Chinese Internet Filtering
I was still serious though, the Doom 3 engine is old and Its not going to be anything special with Duke, and there IS a texture missing in that photo for the Cigar being lit! --Edit-- Thank you for embracing Internet Freedom and restoring my post. |
A burning cigar can look quite dull and unlit if you don't puff for a time. He was too busy kicking ass, so the flame has burned through it a little bit. :'D
I will look for it tomorrow. |
Am I the only one who thinks they slapped Bruce Willis' face directly onto the promo image?
Seriously, look at it. |
Quote:
Unless they're secretly going to do a live-action tie-in movie with Bruce, and this is a stealth hint at it. ...Actually that would be pretty awful, Die Hard 2 would be a better movie then that. |
I AM FAPPING TO THIS.
Also, I just rewatched the 2001 trailer. Which still looks fuckawesome to this day. This week is shaping up mighty good so far. |
... They've been working on Duke Nukem Forever since Jesus was born, and the graphics here are kind of disappointing... Here's to hoping some genius gameplay mechanics will be implemented to actually get me to buy this. If not, I really hope they update their graphics, or better yet follow the trend of using the Unreal 3 engine, or make their own.
|
Oh god, if they switch to a different engine again, we will NEVER see the damn game.
Just use the damn Doom 3 engine and get it over with. |
The trailer is probably going to be a scene from a Die Hard movie.

Spoiler:
|
This is the most disappointing news I've heard in years.
Computer gaming's oldest joke is about to end. |
Lemme guess, they're releasing a Spore trailer tomorrow, too?
|
I'd be excited if it were a gameplay trailer. A CG teaser means little to nothing.
Sorry. |

DNF will probably allow you to have a hooker attached to your cock permanently throughout the game, plant your Dr. Martens in Master chiefs face, crush shrinked down LAPD pig cops between your palms, and take a shit in the dead body of an alien mother queen. All at the same time. |
Quote:
Frankly, I'm just excited for another Dopefish cameo. |
You watch, Dopefish will be a hooker in this game. In a secret room. In a fish tank. In a library. Underground. On the moon. You watch! With your eyes! Mash the space bar and Duke will empty his wallet for the delights of Dopefish.

08 goty right here

Seriously though... haha what am I saying, this is the biggest joke in gaming history :tpg: I'm looking forward to seeing this trailer |
first time i know this game since 1998,I hope will release it before 2010.I hope so.
|
I dunno. Should I be excited? I remember playing the first one, and I tell you, those strippers sure made my wee feel strange, because I was a kid when I played it. Now? Meh.. I think I wait to pass judgement until I've seen the teaser.
A question though: How can such a thing come as a surprise to the dudes? They make the fucking game. Unless they're like: "What? A trailer, but we haven't even made the 'fling turds at small animals'-mechanic yet!" |
Quote:
They need to make this game witty, funny and humorous to play. Otherwise it's just going to be released as a joke and thus blend in with the rest of the FPS out there. 3D Realms have been playing Hype Tycoon for years. Why do they keep changing engines? |
I'm quite excited to finally hear something about The Duke again. I agree the screenshot looks unpolished but I think they wanted to make it look authentic in order to support his comeback even more. Here's hoping they put all those years into awesome gameplay, replayability and physics; to be honest, i'm getting sick of all these one-shot Hollywood movie like games and over-the-top graphics being the only priority for a "good" game. I would be quite disappointed to find out those years meant nothing when the game comes out though, let's hope that won't happen...
If you can blow everything to smithereens a la nex-gen Red Faction, i'm in. Think about the possibilities in multi-player. Oh, and please, PLEASE add OpenGL support. Microsoft forcing the hell out of everyone to completely forget about OpenGL and presenting Direct3D/DirectX10 as the only option disgusts me. |
So, have anyone seen it yet. Apart from the obvious meme creating ending, it was a bit tame, wouldn't you say?
It does look better in motion, but I didn't see anything which looks better than what FPS has managed. I'll remain rather critical, because that way I won't get disappointed, only surprised... |
That trailer was completely lame. ... and What an awful voice actor.
|
If FileShack wasn't such a piece of shit website, I could have already downloaded the video and bitched about it.
|
What the fuck is Dark Nation talking about. Like Duke Nukem was known for its excellence in writing and voice acting.
Sounds like the same guy only with better-quality soundbytes, and it's the same dumb humor that made Duke Nukem 3D so awesome even when it was just a Doom clone, graphically. My faith is restored for the time being. |
Quote:
LAME. You're right, Duke Nukem never was known for writing or voice acting, but at least the voice actor in previous games didn't sound like he just got a vasectomy. Only good thing about the trailer was that they brought back the Pig-Cops. Once more is revealed I might change my opinon, but right now I am not excited at all about playing this. If it ever even comes out. |
It's not like Jon has been practicing his return for all the years he hasn't been voicing the Duke.
|
Personally, I thought Duke 3D was better than Doom. But that's just me.
Anyway. I found the video else where. Sucks, doesn't show anything, and it's no better than the crap pictures they released a year ago to assure us that the game, regardless of the fact that it doesn't exist, is still in the works. Stay Tuned! We'll have more teasers and pics in 2011! YouTube - Duke Nukem Forever 2007 Teaser |
You call that a trailer? Trailers usually show game content, you know. Not a bunch of.. animation and talking. If I actually anticipated this game I'd be pretty annoyed with that.
STAY TUNED... FOR A FEW MORE YEARS. I can't wait until they get their asses into gear and manage to release a gameplay trailer of this, in 2011. |
So, I watched the trailer, and I'm going to say it looked more pleasing visually then I would have expected. Regardless, no salvageable gameplay footage was kinda bleh, but it's a teaser so I can't really complain. Either way I hope they finally get this to near release by the end of this generation of gaming...
|
I have to say that I find it amusing that they combined crappy low-res blood decals with super high-res blood in that clip with the pig-cops. Spit and polish, kids.
No matter. ALWAYS BET ON DUKE. |
Duke Vaporware Forever, coming 2020 or so. The teaser looks promising. Hoping that the gameplay will still be oldschool and stuff.
|
Weightlifting, heavy metal arrangement of Duke's theme, Duke says something badass. Exactly what I expected. I would have liked to see some gameplay but they probably haven't gotten around to designing it yet.
Graphically, it looks alright for a beta, but the aliens look too much like generic Gears/Resistance aliens. And why is Duke's nose so damn big? His hairline looks like its part of the same polygon as his forehead, too. Those things aside, shit will be epic. |
This trailer has awoken my inner Duke fanboy again, it looks awesome! Hopefully this is developed with the PC in mind, I'm definitely not waiting for a shitty console port.
|
Bad ass trailer. That's exactly what I was expecting from 3d.
|
This is going to be so massive. I'll say it again; GOTY 08
|
I hope it turns out to be awesome, and not some generic piece of work.
|
LOL stay tuned. I swear they're just trying to contend for more first place finishes in vaporware contests.

I was hoping we'd actually get a date for Duke Nukem Whenever, but we're still being kept in the dark. I dunno how good it's going to be, but If through some grace of God DNF somehow lives up the combined hype of ten years development, it'll be the stuff of legends. |
I just want a full version of the music used in this teaser.

Duke Nukem Trilogy: Duke Nukem Trilogy Trailer Takes The Cake
Anyone mind telling me about this "trilogy" game set that I haven't heard of ? Also. Worst. Trailer. Ever. |
There's really nothing to tell, the games were basically just announced.
I am pleased with the notion of Apogee coming back from the dead more-or-less to start and finish 3 new Duke titles while 3D realms upgrades their engine and starts all over again for the nth time. There will now be Duke In Our Time, friends. |
More like best trailer ever. I saw that this morning and couldn't stop laughing. The four guns shooting the logo, Duke zooming across the screen with an explosion in the background, the camera zooming in on his crotch. Best thing to come out of E3 this year aside from Ravi Drums spazzing out on stage at the Nintendo thing.
The games are for PSP and DS, IGN's got an interview or something with some guy somewhere. Some. Sounds like the PSP versions will be FPS' while the DS is getting side scrollers. |

That has got to be the worst trailer I've ever seen, for anything. All it really does is pan and scroll over the titles a bunch of times. And to think I was actually expecting something from the Duke Nukem crew with this.
|
Now, it's been quite while since I last played Duke, so my mind could be playing tricks on me. Tell me, did Duke always sound as retarded as he did in that trailer?
|
Quote:
I think I played the crappy shareware demo of the first game in the series more than anything else until I got an N64. Fuck yeah, modern Duke run-and-gun games. |
Yeah, I loved the original Duke Nukem platformers. It'd be awesome if they included them in these, but they won't. :(
Also Jill of the Jungle and Alien Carnage and! |
Always bet on Duke. :)
|
Quote:
What the fuck did you expect? Goddamned Lawrence Of Arabia? |
Does my computer have a problem or is the trailer supposed to repeatedly flash 3 "trilogy" titles?
|
You have a problem with your computer. Go throw it in a bin. :)

That was seriously, the single funniest thing to come out of E3.
I sat there laughing for 5 minutes straight. "It's time to kick ass and chew bubblegum...and I'm all out of gum." Indeed. :tpg: |
I am now convinced that Duke Nukem has become a massive tax shelter for the developers.
3DRealms to IRS: "Oh, we have to write off another 2 million in losses because we updated our game engine for the 7th time." But still, that trailer is worth it. :D |
