Name that Game Soundtrack Version 3
Before the discovery of the Video Game Music Quiz, this was the equivalent of it on these forums. Version 1 got closed and Version 2 never really took off, so I figured maybe it's time to give this another try. I have no idea who came up with the idea in the first place, but credit goes to him/her.
Here's how this works. You post a link to a song you want us to guess what soundtrack it's from (I'm using a link instead of an attachment so we don't overload the forums). It's the job of anyone who wants to participate to guess what game it's from. If no one gets it within a certain period of time (anywhere from 1-3 days), a clue should be posted in order to help the guessers out. This clue can be either written in text, a picture, or even another song from the game. Don't be TOO obvious with your clues unless it's the last clue. If no one can get it after 3 clues, post the name(s) of the song(s) and the game it's from so we don't go crazy trying to figure it out 3 months later (if you were around for Version 1, you know we had a few of those). Now some ground rules for the songs: 1. The length of the song can be anywhere from 15 seconds to the full song. 2. The song can be from a gamerip if no soundtrack is available. 3. Songs must be in mp3 format. If you can't do mp3, then put it in wav. Those are your only choices. 4. Songs cannot be from fan-made games (flash, hacks, etc.), they have to be from video games that you can find at stores or even Ebay. If it's a Japan only game, that's fine. 5. Songs cannot be fan-made remixes or official remixes. Only the original version can be used. However, there are two instances to which this rule does not apply. a. The song was remixed into a different port of the game. For example, Dragon Quest VIII for the US uses orchestrated music instead of the original music like in Japan's version, so it's okay. b. The song was not in the game, but was on an official OST of the game. For example, Singing Mountain was not in Chrono Trigger, but it was on its official soundtrack. It may be used. I think that's all the rules for now. More may come in or some might even disappear if we run into any problems. This isn't a contest, but if enough support is shown we can start keeping score. Have fun! Someone else can start with a track unless you want me to do it. |
Sounds cool. May I start? Please give me only one second for uploading the track...
EDIT: Okay, ladies and gentlemen, here it is! I'm sure it's not that difficult for our VGM freaks here. :) |
No clue what it would be from but it sounds Playstation-ish.

You're right! It's from Golden Sun for GBA and the music in Lunpa's hideout and the storm in Vale (in the intro) respectively. Congratulations, now it's your turn! |

|
That would be from Tetris Attack. I believe it's the aquatic level.
|
Yup, correct on both counts: the theme of Lunge Fish and the undersea stage from Tetris Attack. Game has some of the best overall bass in VGM.
Your turn. |
Lunge fish, that's his name! I had forgotten.
Time for my awesome song, on megaupload because I don't want to risk putting mp3s on my school webspace. Here you go "lol" |
Oy, you better make sure it's not tagged! :D
Unless that's a decoy, or something. I certainly don't know the song. |
Wow, that's from a game? I don't know what it is but I've gotta say, I've never heard anything like it. That's an interesting use of sound effects.
|
I have to work tonight, so I'm gonna leave a first clue now for people.
CLUE 1: The game this song is only out in Japan. CLUE 2: A large number of composers wrote music for this game. |
Really no idea so I just guess: Cho Aniki?
|
Final clue: The number of games in this series is in the double digits.
I'll probably won't give it more than a day before revealing the answer if no one gets it, to keep things moving. EDIT Well, since it looks like no one's going to guess this, the song is Auslandsgesprach from Pop'n Music 11, possibly also known as "80's werk", the genre it is given in the game. I probably should've put up something easier at first, until more people were attracted in here. Oh well. Whoever sees this next can put up a new song, and get things moving again. |
Well whatever! I dug that track, haha!
Here's my contribution--this should be easy, I think: http://rmx.mm-bbs.net/anonymous.mp3 |
Dang, it sounds like it would be used in Megaman but I'm not too sure.
|
That sounds like a first generation SNES game or something. :S Hmm...
|
I don't think I'll spoil anything by saying that yes, it is a SNES track.
It's not Megaman though! Additional Spam: Well crap, maybe I was wrong and this one's too hard... I guess I'll give the first hint now: Spoiler:
|
My best guess is Ranma 1/2 something something... Catchy tune though!
Btw, cool thread, but why you all going Jap-only stuff? :edgartpg: |
Quote:
I didn't really think about whether it was Japanese, but I guess it is. Next time I come around I'll put up something from a Western composer, then. :D |
My first thought was Rudra no Hihou, but I don't believe it's from that game.
|
Nope. That's a great soundtrack though!
I guess it's time for another clue... I give you CLUE NUMBER TWO! Spoiler:
|
Ha, your avatar and sig sort of give it away! Super Puyo Puyo 2. Track's called "The Top Floor" in the RSN.
|

You go next! |
Alrighty, next one. Bit on the easier side (I think):

Oh gee. Ok, I edited my last post, but I will post it again! and fix that last post again

The sound is quite distinct. I think it's from Stunt Race FX.
|
Yeahh it's from Stunt Race FX! Ahh the memories.
|
Yes, you are both winners!
Now you know what you must do. |
|
Holy damn that's a weird one. I can't even guess which platform it comes from. :S PC maybe?!
Does he say "Into a waterfall" or something? lol |
GODS!!!!11
Good choice, it's freakin' awesome. I'm having a blank moment on who did it (I don't think it was matthew "4mat" simmonds but it could be)... EDIT: Now I remember, it was Richard Joseph. He was a great composer, his death was a huge loss. |
Quote:
|
It was a big deal on the VGM mailing list, a lot of inspirational and moving stories were shared. It's one of my major regrets in life that I didn't get to spend time with him. As far as I know he's the first game musician that died.
|
The VGM mailing list?
Akihiko Mori (Mystic Ark, Wonder Project J series) died of cancer in 1997. |
Yes, it's "Into the Wonderful", the intro for Gods on the Amiga/PC. And as a matter of fact, a band called Nation XII (Tim Simenon and John Foxx) were the actual composers of this tune. Richard Joseph possibly rearranged it into mod format for the game. Though I didn't know about his death either, it is quite a shame.
Alright, it is your go again, surrashu. |
Quote:
Quote:
Anyway, here's one that will cheer us up after all this talk of death: http://rmx.mm-bbs.net/anonymous2.mp3 |
Pretty sure that's from Jazz Jackrabbit 2. It has a very distinctive sound.
EDIT: The ascending run at ~40 seconds in confirmed it for me. |
Yes it is, and yes it has. :D
|
Alright, I guess I'll throw one out there. Rather than going with something obscure that probably no one would get, I'll go with something more well known, though still not hugely so.
Mystery Song #1 |
That reminds me of Deja Vu, but I'm totally not sure here.
|
You're absolutely correct. It's the bathroom theme from Deja Vu. Very distinctive NES soundtrack.
|
Alright well since it's been pretty much confirmed that it's from Deja Vu, I'll just continue. Here it is...! MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service
|
"Pure Bitch Power" from Forsaken.
I guess I was well-suited to identify this one, eh (especially when I saw my name in the tags)? ;) I'll probably not be as lucky next time though... OK, here's one that shouldn't be so hard: Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: |
Damn, that's really familiar but I can't pick it. Guess it's not Sierra, eh Rimo? ;)
- Spike |
Not Sierra, there wouldn't have been any challenge for you, hehe.
Here's two clues: From an old franchise, . . . . . > and Was composed by the same person who did a track named "Nocturnicular" on another project. |
Somehow, that track makes me think Lemmings.
|
I don't know for sure as I haven't heard that cool song before, but based on the clues, I would guess Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness.
|
Could indeed have fitted well in a Lemmings game, but the real origin is, as Draconis (the Sherlock Holmes of VGM!) found out, Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness. It's the first world theme, which is based on a ruins / Egyptian setting.
|
Hah, that was just a lucky guess. I would never have figured a Pac-Man game would have such good music. Which reminds me, I need to grab some more of your great rips, Rimo. ;)
Alright, here's my next one, which shouldn't prove to be too hard for some. |
Definitely a NES game, but hell if I know which one... Double Dragon?
|
|
Indeed it's the NES game, Shatterhand. I still remember how ridiculous the box art was. Cool game though, and music by Iku Mizutani & Kouichi Yamanishi.
Edit: The Last Ninja? No idea what Bodomi's could be. |
Let's see...
It's from a MS-DOS game released on 1995. Apparently 3rd game from the game series, but only this one is released outside Japan so the english title is different. edit: Looks like the game was released earlier for NEC-PC9801. The soundtrack cover says 1992... |
Based on the clues, I'll say Knights of Xentar.
|
Knights of Xentar is correct. :)
|
Alright! This should be very easy. Probably the easiest so far.
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service |
I'm sorry to say this, but if this is the easiest then somebody hit me because I have no clue what that could be. First thing that came to mind was Chrono Cross but that's definitely not it.
|
Can not using megaupload be a rule ? Some of us actually use all of the slots they allow per day, you know. ;_;
|
Just cause you say it's the easiest one ever, and I never heard it, I'm guessing something from Zelda, or perhaps Final Fantasy. :D (Don't take this as a "true" guess, though. I'd only try to get it if I knew the answer...)
Here's a link for niki's (and others who download too much from Megaupload) benefit: FACE!! |
Uh, Deep Labyrinth? Just a guess.
|
Haha I said easiest SO FAR. :P I might have been wrong, but it's really because this is a game on the Nintendo DS so it's more recent, and I thought the probabilty of someone having the rip would be pretty high. Anyways Yeah kuttlas, it's Deep Labyrinth. :P
Chrono Cross wasn't a bad answer though, since it's Mitsuda. :D |
Lucky guess, I can tell it's from a DS game and it sounded very Mitsuda-y.
Let's see you guess this one. |
Assuming everyone who is playing has already listened, here's a hint, don't want this to take forever: It's from a game based on a tabletop RPG.
|
Yeah, I had a listen. You mean, some kind of Dungeons and Dragons game? You do know there's a billion games based on tabletop RPG's, right? :P
- Spike |
Okay, if you want me to give it away, it's one of the better old games in the real-time tactics genre (tactics, not strategy). The genre itself has fewer members than first-person skydiving and bacon frying sims, you can't possibly miss this one.
|
It's the battle theme from Warhammer: Shadow of The Horned Rat, composed by Mark Knight. That was a pretty hard one man, had to dig up quite deep in my folders. :)
Additional Spam: Let's go back in time (*hint): Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: (...and no, it's not from the Nero Burning Rom V.6.6.0.16 keygen) |
Sounds like a C64 tune. And I'm really ashamed for not knowing it since I'm really digging that track.
|
Quote:
|
I was so sure that was Jeroen Tel - Ice Age, but it's not! :(
I'm totally lost, but it's an awesome track. |
You're all cold, guess it's time for more hints:
Not a C64 game, not by Tel, and "back in time" did not refer to the C64 arrange albums (although it could have with the tune's nature); the setting of the game is based on a past period of time. The lead programmer for God of War worked on this game. |
Is it Wings of Death?
|
Nope, but you're burning as far as the developer, year of release, and composer go. Actually, the game isn't listed on MobyGames.
|
Then is it A Prehistoric Tale?
I'll stop making stupid guesses if I'm wrong. |
Bingo!
|
|
Seems like you did not lie. It really doesn't ring a bell. Has a middle-eastern flavor, yet not in a so traditional way, mixing in somewhat futuristic elements like the voice effect at the beginning.
I know it's not from the recent Prince of Persia trilogy. Mayhap from Prince of Persia 3D? |
Nope, think more recent (as in, 2007). And geographically, you're not quite east enough.
Also: The developer of this game is obsessed with ninjas. |
That makes me wanna say Assassin's Creed on a whim. I remember them doing something for Ninja Day, and the music would fit into the game. But it's kinda big to be a "extra hard mode", although of course I didn't hear the soundtrack so who knows. :D
|
Wrong east, not obsessed with ninjas enough.
Last hint: You have to be as rich as Scrooge McDuck to own the console this game is on. It weighs 11 pounds. And it's shiny, black, and baaaaallin'. And it has no games. |
Given the clues: Genji: Days of the Blade on the PS Triple.
|
THAT'S OBVIOUSLY THE NEOGEO CD
I don't know. I shouldn't guess games I've never even seen let alone heard the music from. :D |
Quote:
|
Well, after hearing the clues...I've gotta say it's Heavenly Sword. The song itself though could definitely be in Prince of Persia though.
|
Heavenly Sword it is. If you said Ninja Gaiden Sigma I would have had to strangle you.
|
Well if you hadn't said you play as a chick, I might've gone the way of Sigma. Actually is the Sigma soundtrack the same as the Xbox version?
Oh, and here's my first song. XD |
That's the opening theme from Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout. I played quite a bit to that game back in the days, so I recognized it instantly.
Additional Spam: Staying East, here I go: Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: |
|
Right on!
While I know from which game your track comes from, I'll skip my turn and let the chance of guessing to someone else. |
Seems like we're the only two having heard this tune before, which surprises me because I thought Spikey would have been familiar with it (*hint). If you look up my profile at Slightly Dark, my avatar is actually from one of the two games this track can be found in.
|
It's track 14 from Lode Runner Online. I knew I heard it before.
|
Well, that cool avatar certainly gives it away, but yeah, it's from Lode Runner. Specifically the PSX version of The Legend Returns (if there's a rip of the original music from the PC game, I'd sure like to know where I can find it; I'm assuming that perhaps Mad Monk's Revenge has the same soundtrack), though I originally came to like that Abandoned Mines track in all its midi glory on the version that came with my dad's old AST computer. I used to play the game often as a kid. One of the few computer games that I ran into and came to enjoy a great deal in my youth, what with how I've always been more of a console gamer.
|
Indeed, the game was quite nice; a good revamp of the original Lode Runner formula, which I always enjoyed for its mix of puzzle and action elements. Yeah, both "The Legend Returns" and "Online: Mad Monk's Revenge" use the same soundtrack (but with one or two different tracks if I remember well). The PSX version also has the same redbook audio. Are you looking for the PC redbook tracks or the MIDI files? I have the former on my HD, and the MIDIs can be found at Mirsoft.
|
Thanks for the link. Somehow those midi files don't match my memory as well as I'd like. I know I used to love the Fungus stage music but it doesn't sound the same. The 'doop, de, doop doop doop' stuff... That part was louder before. I guess the music just comes out differently depending on the music driver or something.
The Fossil/Jurassic/Mines tune is always cool though. That's why I used it here. ^_^ |
So, kuttlas going to post a track, or should I add something evil again? Wouldn't be from a hentai game this time, though. :p
|
Oh yeah it's my turn :erm:
Send big files the easy way. Files too large for email attachments? No problem! |
I'm completely clueless.
And no one else seems to be guessing either. Any hints? |
Japanese RPG, 1996, Sega Saturn, had an anime based off of it.
|
Sakura Taisen ~
|
Nope :psyduck:
It was developed by Bandai. There's three other games with the same name on the PC Engine CD, SNES and Gameboy. |
Gulliver Boy?
|
Yes! ^5
|
|
Omikron: The Nomad Soul
Speaking of, how have I possibly never heard of that game until now? I've heard the song before, which is how I found the game by searching for "'New Angels of Promise' game," but I had no idea Bowie wrote it or a bunch of other songs for that game. :| |
Yep. that is correct!
David Bowie did write several songs for Omikron. In the game, you could attend different Bowie and the Dreamers gigs to listen to the songs, which was like a quest in itself. Cool, underrated game that. |
This shouldn't be too hard, but it is more cool music:
3: Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: |
I like it when CHz posts songs. DynamiTracer.
I was going to post a stupid voice sampley SNES song for my next one though :( I'll find something else quick. Additional Spam: Ok, here it is. I don't think this is hard. Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: |
|
Hint: it is a SNES game! (as if that wasn't evident enough from the synth)
Spoiler:
|
Son of a bitch, that's Pieces. I remember seeing that game in a magazine way back when and thought it would actually be pretty fun. I never did get around to playing it.
Additional Spam: Here, let's have another song. Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: |
Subvorsive Awareness aka Stage 5 from Battle Garegga. I knew I'd heard that one somewhere.
|
That is correct. It is a very Namiki-ish song. Have at her!
|
|
I have a gut feeling I've heard this one before, but I can't place it. The Mask on SNES?
|
Nothing to do with the SNES, if that helps.
|
Clue: I've heard that the composer of this particular track and soundtrack is spectacular with a broom.
|
:eagletear:
The gameplay of the series is reminiscent of Shinobi (except you're using a GUN), and yet the original game apparently came out one year before that one. Also, the main character is named after a bird. The Namco-made game is like a tumbling Dan Majerle, if you catch my drift. |
Ohh, ok, I get it...? Rolling Thunder. Not sure which one though. How about the first one?
Actually, it's probably the second one. |
Quote:
Quote:
|
Yeah, those hints were mostly just confusing me. If you hadn't mentioned that it was Shinobi with a gun, I don't think I ever would have got it.
Anyway, here's my next one. Probably easy again. Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: Direct Link |
Little Samson. Golem's stage. :3:
And damn, I knew I heard that Rolling Thunder 2 track before, but couldn't get a title. Alright, how about this then? Should be easy, I think. |
I thought wrong. =(
Clues are right in front of your eyes, though. |
Augh, I missed the Little Samson song. That's a fun game.
And this one would be Captain Tsubasa 2 for the NES. |
Correct! It's Toho's theme, btw. And the game's like one my top favorites of all time. Just gone through it all a couple of months back, still great as ever.
Ok, your turn, TheKnightOfNee. |
Okay, here you go. I used this at a similar contest elsewhere, but it was never guessed, so I'll see how it fares here. It helps that it's already de-tagged too. Two links for twice the accessibility!
Putfile MEGAUPLOAD |
It sounds like I've played this game before but I don't remember where it's from, so it'll be annoying when the answer is revealed.
I'm going to guess Ogre Battle for SNES. |
Nope, not Ogre Battle. First hint is that the game is timed.
Second hint... the game's plot is similar to that of one of the highest grossing movies of all time. |
Total guess: Prince of Persia?
|
Totally useless guess from me: Nosferatu?
|
Another guess: Legend?
If not, is it at least some kind of a medieval SNES game? |
Nothing close yet.
Third hint: This song plays during the bulk of the escape from the Lady Crithania. |
Hint makes this one pretty obvious; is it from S.O.S.?
|
Yep, it's from S.O.S. This song plays from the moment the ship starts going under.
You're up! |
|
You start strong, I have absolutely no idea of the game it comes from...
Is this track indicative of the general setting; is it a dark game? |
Not necessarily. As for a more useful hint: was released on PC and Amiga, among other systems.
|
Completely random guess: Populous?
|
Nope, sorry. Not even close.
|
I checked a few possibilities and they didn't end up to be the source of your song. Although indicative, the hints you provided still point to a large spectrum of potential titles. Could you share another tip to help us put a finger on the obscure origin?
|
Hmf ... I'm pretty sure I heard that before ... Then again, it could just sound like a Bach fugue. =/
|
Well well, seems you're having more trouble than I anticipated :D Thus, another hint: God machine.
|
Alright, it is "Room of the God Machine" from Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. Never played, nor heard the soundtrack before, but that hint sure was a good help.
Additional Spam: Try that one: Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: |
First hint: shoe brand.
|
Hmm, I guess it's an Ecco the Dolphin game, and going by the quality, for the Sega CD? (hey, I own a pair of Ecco shoes)
Also, I've completed both Indy adventures and have no recollection of their music. =( |
Good try, but wrong brand and wrong game. Additionally, the Ecco soundtracks are much more atmospheric than this dance-ish tune.
I guess not many have played to the game or heard the music before. The "shoe" tip also points to a sport being mainly played with a certain body part they get put on. So yeah, "shoe brand" + "Now you playing with _____" + "sport" + "the year after 1997". |
Hah, talk about obscurity. I'll let someone else get it then. The music is cool though, and that's what counts.
|
Adidas Power Soccer 98? Never played the game but I remember seeing a little bit of the series in one of my magazines, however I only knew about it having two games. I also agree about it being a cool track, it's got a nice beat to it.
|

|
LOL, nice one. I'll try to keep mine fairly easy.
SuperSonic002 Anyone know of a site that stores your audio files like imageshack does to your images without have to register or anything? I think I had a complaint about megaupload previously. |
Clue #1: It's underrated in my eyes, hated by most, and it's from a popular franchise.
|
|
Seems like a cemetery stage/boss theme from a PS2 game. Which one exactly? Hmm, that is still undetermined...
Would it be from one of the Maximo games? |
AMAZING!
|
Well since the crash slowed things down and kuttlas' link is out of date (not your fault, I know sendspace's limits XD), I figured I'll get the ball rolling again.
This one shouldn't be too hard, I hope. SuperSonic003 |
Haven't heard it before, but... Metal Gear Solid 3?
|
Nope. Clue #1: It was a game released in 2007.
|
I'm REALLY sorry I haven't updated in so long...so I'm just gonna skip the clues and say that it was from Assassin's Creed.
Any person can post the next song to guess. |
I'll just go ahead and claim it then...
Guess that song 89 - Putfile.com This one's a toughie so I'll be so kind as to provide some hints right off the bat: PC, 1997. |
Shadows Over Riva?
|
Nope, you're way off.
Second hint: Japanese. |
Ok this is a wild guess, but Story of Eastern Wonderland?
|
I'm afraid not.
|
Give up on this one? It's been like 10 days
ok then been a few days so RapidShare: 1-Click Webhosting |
Just as hard as the previous one. :(
My guess is Puzzle Quest, but I don't think that's it. |
Nope, but it be a Western Soundtrack, and the version of it is better quality than normally in-game
|
Wow, dunno what it is but it sounds pretty epic. Just a random guess: Shadow of the Colossus?
|
Oh, seems you guys went on without me. Whatever; the song I posted was from Seasons of Sakura.
And this one is from Monkey Island 2. |
Well done, you're pretty good.
|
Hehe, thank you :D
Anyways, here's my next one, should hopefully be easier: Name that Game Soundtrack - Putfile.com |

Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: , link1, link2 |
That was an awesome song, but I'm not sure on it though. It had the medieval sound of The Lord of the Rings (SNES) ?
Where could one obtain this Out of this World game OST? I've been looking with no success.. |
Quote:
As for Drac's new song, the player won't work for me and the link to the MP3 is dead... prolly just me tho. |
Added an extra FileFactory link in my post for anybody having trouble accessing the file. There will also be some hints in a few hours, if nobody gets it until then.
And yeah, Out of this World didn't have much of a soundtrack. Just some themes in the intro and outro, if I'm not mistaken. |
Quote:
And please, don't ever upload to FileFactory again... takes forever to finally download something off there. EDIT: Sheesh, finally got it after 7+ hours of trying. Don't think I know the answer, tho. |
Alright. Guess I'll try some other host next time. By the same token, I can hardly ever download anything off of Rapid Share or Mega Upload. Just saying.
Anywho, here's "the hint": It's a theme for a town in a MMORPG, ultimately. |
Quote:
As for your hint: would that make it Ragnarok by any chance? |
Sure thing.
And no, it's not even Korean. Try again. |
Figured somebody would get my hint. I literally spelled out the game. Anyways, it's Trinsic's theme from Ultima Online.
Whomever would like a turn, go for it. |
|
I believe I've heard this before, but can't put my finger on its identity exactly. Something from the Cho Aniki series maybe?
|
While Cho Aniki games are pretty "wtf" in themselves, this isn't one of them.
Although it should be noted that most the musics in this game are pretty wacky. And that one of the special moves in this game is throwing dentures at your foe. :D Edit: Not all of them are wacky, just most... (Before, I said all of them are) |
|
That is correct, of course.
I never knew there was a video... I just ripped the track off the Neo Geo ROM. Are you going to post a track, Draconis? Or will you pass the turn to someone else? |
Going to post an easy one. Don't wait for my confirmation if you know what it is; go ahead and post another.

Cool song. Something tells me this should be quite obvious, yet I have no clue. Descent II/III, perhaps?
|
Not from any of the Descents.
I don't think it's very obvious. The genre of the game is the same as the one from your last track, and it's from a company that made "eating dots" cool. |
PS2. Beat 'em up. Namco. 2005. Two words. The first starts with a "U", the second with an "R".
|
From the hints, I'd guess Urban Reign.
|
Yes, I was just about to say so, and post a new song. Never heard of the game before, but I wonder if the rest of the soundtrack is just as neat.
|
Urban Reign it is!
There are a few other interesting tracks from this game, but in the end, I only kept the 4 I really liked (out of about 50+). The style reminds me of Tekken 3, yet the lack of melodies and less concise structures make Urban Reign not as enjoyable overall. Here's a link if you'd like to hear the other songs I have: Urban Reign Bodomi's turn now. |
|
Man, wished I listened to more VGM, and played more Japanese games. Looking forward to hearing what this one is :)
- Spike |
King of Dragons! I used to play that all the time.
Give me a minute and I'll come up with a song. |
Damn, I knew that one. It's Stage 2 for King of Dragons. Nice pick, Bodomi.
And thanks, Rimo. Those other tracks are quite the ROCK'N. |
Another easy one, I'm sure. Or maybe not, I never know.

Hmm, Xenon 2: Megablast? Is it even a shmup?
|
Right genre, wrong game.
|
Knowing the system would be nice.
Am I just aimlessly going through Amiga musics? |
Yes, think more Super Nintendoey.
|
Ah, Super Aleste.
|
You are the winner, now let's all go play Ikaruga on our 360s!
|
Hooray Ikaruga!
Now guess this song that may be from Ikaruga! (hint: it's not) Putfile and megaupload links: mysterysong 86 - Putfile.com MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service |
It's that horrible Castlevania for Nintendo 64! :(
|
It sure is! You're up now, Bodomi.

I think this one may need some hints. Maybe I'll start with these: Commodore 64, Shoot 'em Up. |
Would that be Cybernoid 2, by any chance?
|
Nope.
This game is quite obscure. Although undeniably one of most technically impressive games on C64. And it actually had different music for every level, that's uncommon for C64 shooters. Actually, that's uncommon for C64 games in general. Also, another track from the same game, because I'm totally loving this one. Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: link |
Yeah, a bit obscure. Enforcer: Fullmetal Megablaster. It seems the guy also did the music for the C64 version of Turrican II.
|
Correct!
Your go. :) |
|
Come on, it's a Sega beat 'em up. How hard could that be?
|
Oh I see, it is Golden Axe 3.
|
CONGLATURATIONS!!
Yes, it is one of the better tunes from Golden Axe III. Sorry, I didn't realize that this game was only released in Japan (I played the cart many years ago.) |
|
I think I've heard this before, but I just can't remember where.
|
It is from the best Gamecube game.
|
F-Zero GX?
edit: Yep, did some searching, it is that. ( :-_-: for not remembering it earlier) This may be easy, but let's just make it obvious. Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: link |
"Adam"/Final Boss Theme from G-Darius.

Growl/Runark?
|
Yes. Jungle justice!
Go ahead, ZiggyGo. |
Well, putfile was being mean and not letting me register, so for this time only (hopefully), here's a sendspace file. Sorry it took so long to get up!
Send big files the easy way. Files too large for email attachments? No problem! EDIT: Hotlink addition Link |
Nobody?
Hint 1: This composer likes to include PC-88 versions for a lot of soundtracks. |
I didn't think I chose a hard soundtrack...anyone?
|
You know, it occurs to me that a lot of these would be great SotW noms. Ya'll should check it out!
|
It's "HASSIN COM." from The Scheme. I was only familiar with the main theme from that game, so it was hard to guess. Your hint, plus the id3 tags that were not removed from the file :p, helped to identify it.
|
Oh drat. Next time I'll make sure I double check!
But yes, you are correct. I could have chosen easier tracks from that soundtrack, but I figured it'd be a good challenge. |
It's better to chose something rather difficult to find, but sometimes the tracks seem to be a little too hard to identify.
Here's another one to guess. I don't think it's ultra well-known, yet it doesn't come from the dark depths of total obscurity, so it should be possible to identify. Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: |
Medieval, hack and slash, Seta/Athena.
|
Castle of Dragon I guess. Never heard of that one, but since I already have a song ready, I'm just going to go ahead and post it up.
Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: Link |
It's some dungeon music for Gargoyle's Quest.
Next: Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: | link | Putfile |
No clue, but it sounds absolutely gorgeous. Okami perhaps?
|
Yes, there are some impressive tunes on the soundtrack. Not Okami, though. I believe that sounds more oriental than gothic.
Hint:
|
Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines?
|
Well, it's Redemption not Bloodlines, but I'll consider it correct. The song is called Anezka's Theme (which was the nun that fell in love with crusader-turned-vampire) and was composed by Kevin Manthei.
Your turn. |
Alrighty then, pretty simple but hopefully not too obvious:
Guess the soundtrack number 656346756949 - Putfile.com |
Hmm, no guesses yet? Time for some serious hintage then.
The song plays when the main character "dies". |
Well, the relation to a death scene was obvious, but I really don't know from which game it's from. Is it a LucasArts title?
|
Indeed it is.
If that doesn't make it too damn obvious, I don't know what will :p |
You guys couldn't get Monkey Island 3 right away? bah. I just did monkey island 2 like 2 weeks ago. That song would be Guybrush's "death" when the fake credits play in the crypt.
I still love that part, Score 1013 points . . . "Hey! I'm not dead yet!" Additional Spam: and here's mine: Whatsongbethis.mid |
Yep, that is the correct answer.
Incidentally, you might wanna check your file, since the link is broken for me. |
Haha, I keep missing the most obvious ones.
And that midi is the music for tutorial island in Runescape, isn't it? EDIT: Well, I can assure that it is. Remember it briefly from the time I tried out that game. ;_; Next: Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: | link | Putfile |
Haha, that's definitely Cameltry. I'll get a new one up in a minute.
Edit: Here we go. Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: Putfile link hotlinkfiles |
Well, the mystery won't have lasted very long, but it's from Tempest 2000. Good one!
|
Well, that was quick. It is indeed Tempest 2000.
|
The setting of the game should be evident, but as for guessing the exact title, hmm... good luck! (I'll provide hints as usual if needed though)
Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: |
Is it Outlaws?
|
A western game indeed, yet Outlaws would have been too obvious. After some reflexions, this game might not be obvious enough however, so I'll start with hints right away:
Released for a gray console, a title which includes the name of a famous outlaw. |
Call of Juarez, then?
|
Could have been it, but no. The outlaw in question lived between 1847-1882.
|
Then that makes it Gunfighter: Legend of Jesse James.
|
Right on! Your turn now.
|
Alrighty, wonder how many people know this one.
Guess That Soundtrack Once Again - Putfile.com |
I'm guessing it's something out of Quest For Glory... IV?
Edit: Well, I don't know for sure, but something tells me I've heard this before. Could even be from a King's Quest game. Sounds very Sierra. Or maybe I'm just being misled. |
Nope, not QFG, but you're definitely on the right track.
|
About time I gave another hint: 5th entry in the series.
|
Space Quest V then? Only SQ I have played to completion.
|
No, it's the witch theme from King's Quest V.
I'm skipping my turn, so whoever has a track to post, go ahead. |
Yep, Rimo got it right.
|
Fire away:
whichisit.MID |
Amayirot... argh.
NinjaguyDan's is Descent, menu theme I think? Nice one. Edit: Next song: Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: | link | Putfile |
Worms World Party, right?
|
Worms World Party it is. Title theme by Bjørn Lynne. Your turn.
|
|
That's from Azure Dreams. I played to this game a lot back in the days with my grandmother. The soundtrack as a whole was a bit repetitive, but quite memorable.
Additional Spam: Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: |
Correct, that was from Azure Dreams which happens to be one of my all-time favorites. I'm still waiting for a proper sequel...
As for your spam, I have no idea what game that is from :) |
Hint: It's from a game that could be played with the voice.
|
On the Dreamcast, contains "man" in the title.
|
It is from Seaman? My other guess was that pinball games of sorts for the Gamecube.
Does Seaman have other good music? EDIT I'll be gone for the next 24 hoursish, so if I'm right someone else can post the next song. |
From Seaman indeed, the main theme actually.
I believe the rest of the soundtrack was rather mediocre since it's the only track I ended up keeping. |
Well, I'm back and no one took my spot, so here we go.
Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: Link |
ok I like this song, but I don't think anyone has it?
|
Oh crap, forgot all about this.
It's a PSP game. Lots of singing in this one. |
Would that be Loco Roco?
|
Yes it is. I thought the voices would give it away instantly, but maybe nobody played the game?
|
Well I sure didn't, of course I don't have a psp X.x
|
Same here, although I'd heard good stuff about it.
Well then, guess it's my turn again. Name That Soundtrack Spooky Edition - Putfile.com |
ooo I really like the song, but I haven't played the game so I'll guess.
Clock Tower for SNES? |
Nope, sorry.
Hmmm, no other guesses so far? Maybe this'll make it easier: it's from a DOS game. |
Spooky Castle?
|
|
anyone not me? (anyone not full of fail, that is)
|
Could it be from one of the "Might & Magic" or "Realms of Arkania" games?
|
Nope, neither one. Seems this one's harder than I imagined, so time for another hint: it's from an adventure game.
|
Alien Incident? or Broken Sword?
otherwise I give. |
Nope on both counts, tho I'm impressed someone else knows about Alien Incident :D
|
Pretty sure I've played this before, but I need a push in the right direction. All I could recall was this tune plays during some dramatic moment, near end game or something.
My best guess for now is Beneath a Steel Sky. |
Nope, not that game, and nope, you're wrong about the endgame thing.
|
Guesses...
Amazon - Guardians of Eden? Curse of Enchantia? |
You might wanna give them another clue soon, Amayirot. I say them because I have no idea what it might be from, though it sounds like something I'd hear out of a vampire game of some sort.
|
Nah man, if it was BASS I would have known that. I played that game so much, I still have to play Broken Sword though, actually, its a big list, even for a pc gamer Oo
|
No right guesses so far... so yeah, time for another hint: the story of the game focuses on voodoo.
|
Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers? What the... that was my initial hunch when I first heard that tune.
If I'm correct though, I would like to know where exactly from the game. I don't particularly remember, and there were better and more memorable tunes. |
You are riiiiight! That's the song that plays in the Bayou St. John.
|
I definitely need to replay some of dem classic adventures. :psyduck:
Yes, have fun with this one. I sure did. Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: | Putfile |
Hint:
|
Guess this was hard, even with hints. The game is called The Castle. And this is how it's like on the MSX, although without "speed up" for the most part. There is also a sequel, Castle Excellent (Castlequest for the NES), which virtually had the same in-game tune. Great puzzlers, if a bit old-school-tedious at times.
Ok, anybody can go ahead and move this thing along. |
I haven't played/seen that game before, so it's no wonder that track didn't sound familiar to me.
Here's a new one to get things going. Download Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: |
No guesses yet, guess I should give out a hint.
It's from an NES game. And it's not even an obscure game. |
I am no fan of "American" football, but seems like no one else would like to guess. It's Tecmo Super Bowl.
More NES, yay! Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: | Putfile |
Is that from Wrecking Crew?
|
Of course it is. It's that tune for MAGIC HAMMER TIME.
Your turn. |
Heh, I wouldn't have known that tune without the help of Brawl. Alright, let's see if I can bring up a good one in a little while.
Edit: SuperSonic004 |
Spawn?
|
Nope, it's not Spawn.
|
Time to give a clue out...this was a game on the NES.
|
Oh, it is Skate or Die 2.
I will be back with great music. EDIT I have added a new song. Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: - Link It will be easy. |
Yes it is Skate or Die 2 (great music)...no idea what your new one is, though.
|
Metal Gear Solid 4? Sounds like it's from one of those games but I've never heard it before.
|
No, PS2 game. Very well known composer.
|
.hack?
|
Is it Contra: Shattered Soldier?
|
I'm pretty sure that's from Wipeout Fusion as it sounds a lot like Cold Storage but I think Draconis may be right.
|
Ok. You are all wrong.
It is from a popular series, that started in the arcades. This is from the 5th installment. I guess this is harder than I thought. |
Your hint makes it a little too easy, though.
|
Yet no one has posted an answer. Feel free to.

OH! It's from Tekken.

Eh, are you going to post a new one now?

No one posted the correct answer, they're all just goofing around
|
I honestly have no idea what it is. Maybe you should go ahead and give out your third clue.
|
Hitoshi Sakimoto.
COME ON! |
Bubble Ghost.
|
Well, since we broke this thread, it was Gradius V.
Whoever wants to can post the next song. |
I think everyone is focused on the contests going on right now instead of this thread. Anyway, dibs on the next one...shouldn't be too hard.
SuperSonic005 |
It's been about three days, so I'll give another clue: Wii.
|
Sorry, I completely forgot about this. It's Vulnerability, the final boss battle music for Trauma Center: Second Opinion on the Wii.
Someone else can post a new one. |
|
Strider! Nice pick. Sure takes me back to the summer of 1991, year of the Mega Drive.
This should be easy. Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: | Putfile |

How about some gameplay sounds to put things into perspective? Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: |
