Dragon Ball Z - Cast List
Hi guys :). Just got back from Wii QJ (Quick Jump). And it seems they revealed part of the final cast.
Please look to the images below of which actor will portray the anime character ^^. http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/8...atwin01af1.jpg as http://img104.imageshack.us/img104/4...kabequ9.th.jpg L to R: Justin Chatwin, Goku http://img45.imageshack.us/img45/723...qjpreviao9.jpg as http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/5...colone7.th.jpg L to R: James Marsters, Piccolo |
a link always helps :/
It's Chatwin vs. Marsters in Dragon Ball Z - ComingSoon.net from what I heard in comingsoon Ando (from heroes) auditioned for yamcha :/ the movie is supposedly not going to be out till 2010 so for now its on my "I don't care" listings. |
Well, if they play their cards right. Then it will be on my possible movies to see list.
|
Bleh, Tom Cruise's son and Spike as stars? That seems like a terrible idea. Here is the IMDB Dragonball Z (2008)
James Wong is directing it, he did Jet Li's 'The One' so who knows, it might be good, it might be god awful, it might have a POWER LEVEL OF 9,000?!?!?!? Quote:
15 August 2008 But I doubt it will be anywhere near done by then. |
Predictions: The movie will be sub-par at best but it will make hundreds of millions due to it well, being Dragon Ball Z, which is probably one of most well known Japanese animated shows in America.

Prediction: The Naruto movie will also be about 5 years too late. |
Am I missing something? I am missing the whole point of the thread... Are they making live movie or something?

What KrelEN said about everyone getting help for this some-time-in-the-future event.
Honestly, I hardly see how they can do a decent/not-humiliating/actually-watchable movie of DBZ, I mean... it's just a massive disaster on the works. Btw, I consider myself a positive person, and I did enjoy DBZ like 1245676884 years ago. |

When I was little and watched DBZ, I often thought of what the live-action would be like. But a Chatwin playing Goku; I'm just not feeling it...
|
I really loved the anime and manga for DBZ when I was a kid, but this is going to be embarrassing. I really do feel sorry for James Marsters. The guy is talented, but always gets the worst roles on earth.
|
I've been hearing rumours for ages about this, every time I think of the concept as a film that final fight from the 3rd Matrix film or Kungfu Hustle always pops into my head, because let's be honest the standards of entertainment are only going to be about that level at best for anyone who is not a hardcore fanboy/fangirl. When it comes down to it without pretty much rewriting the whole storyline to something more practical for a single film, this film is just grade A cash cow material nothing more nothing less.
|
Quote:
I still love DBZ, but even I expect this to be a terrible movie. Kinda like video game movies but worse. Maybe it will be something like this YouTube - Dragonball Z Live Action! |
|
Hrm, it seems as though Stephen Chow is producing the movie. I loved Shaolin Soccer and Kung-fu Hustle...so perhaps this might not be -that- bad after all is said and done...hopes and dreams.
|
a more recognizable actor joins in on the movie, Chow yun fat is master roshi
Chow Yun-Fat Boards Dragonball - ComingSoon.net Their shooting in new mexico and from what I heard its going to be another teen high school movie ~_~ |

Oh no! It's a nightmare come true. 0_o
I hope it's not gonna ruin my favourite anime too much. If it's story is exactly the same as original one, then it suck. :p |
I've always thought that Stephen Chow should be involved in a DBZ movie, should one ever come to light. At least the fight scenes will be good, if nothing else. =/

Well, Mexico (if you guys didn't notice by now). Is the closest locale that has a slight resemblence of one of the DB locations. Everything, from the villages, to the barren desserts.
locales of Mexico http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/6...daytriplb5.jpg http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/9...0norwp4.th.jpg locales of DBZ Tenkaichi http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/9...zbudokagl6.jpg ^ So far I can come up with that has a slight Mexico look. |

I have a feeling the movie will be shot using a green screen similar to 300 for the setting of the movie. That's a wild guess, but I think that'd be pretty cool if they went for something like that.
If this movie actually makes it through production, no joke, I will definately be there on the first day crying very, very nostalgic tears of joy. No matter how horrible the execution is. |

Let us not forget about the movie and how it keep lunging downward

Are those real shit?
Epic failure. |
I hope not!
Or maybe I do?... We may get some epic lols out of this. |
The funniest part is I heard Goku's in Highschool and has a feud with a friend lol.

Also I heard Ernie Hudson has been cast in this movie. I know they wouldn't have him be someone like Mr. Popo... so I'm thinking Kami... It just gets "better and better". Blegh. |
|
My god, Chow Yun Fat is on board for this? Has he no shame?
|
OK... epic failure on process, but epic lulz aren't that great when an actor that didn't suck that badly is involved.
... I cant wait~ |
Romantic Comedy must-see of 2010.
I'm laughing at this already. |
More like biggest joke of 2010. The irony of this is, I'll still watch this; curious to know how badly it'll flop. A part of me would probably be dead after watching this.
|
Hehehe, I'm soooo gonna watch this. I'm sure it'll be a laugh fest. Just imagine if this is true to the animé. *30 minutes where two characters power up*
|
Fuck, this is gonna make Street Fighter look like a masterpiece by comparison :(

lol get the fuck outta here with that shit. Piccolo looks liek a fuckin Cenobyte from Hellraiser.
|
"If the prophecy is true"
"We have no time to waste" cliches FTW! I wanna watch the movie as something else than Dragon Ball, because I know that if I go and watch it thinking that it is the DB movie I will cry for sure. |
Is saying "FTW" a bannable offense yet? D:<
|
yet another trailer and some changes to the previous one. Like the piccollo, looks like they tinted his skin to make him look light greenish unless it's just the lighting. Also, they're showing off some more stunts with super special obvious wire effects. I know the wires are for safe stunts but not for lame action. And did they make Mai a Shapeshifter? Oh and of course the title change. "It's not dragonball Z anymore this is the OC with powers, we're evolving. So lets stick it with a cliche subtitle. DRAGONBALL EVOLUTION. get it?" :savepoint: lame kamehameha |
It just hit me how bloody much I hate the american names in Dragonball. Ugh.
As for that trailer... I'm going to see it, because I think it looks cheesy. Those effects? What is this, Hallmark? |
I haven't seen Dragon Ball Z, in years, and don't wish to see it. I think it has become over rated.
The movie for DBZ looks horrible. It makes the anime look bad. |
I never remember any point in DB or DBZ where Goku ever had the attitude "I'm not ready for this". He was always doing shit that made Roshi surprised. His character is always looking for the next challenge no matter how hard. And way to change the origin of the Dragon Balls, 7 mystics? WTF.
|
I'm gonna watch this movie and wait for the scene were some character will shout "OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAAAAAAAND!!" And then I'll laugh and run around the cinema and laugh and point at nerds and laugh and god this movie will suck.
But I do like the cheesy trailer for it's cheesy action scenes and lulz. There is a hint of hope after all. |
I bet this will be awesome to see high. Not like Speed Racer awesome, but awesome enough.
|
I have this sick feeling in my stomach that this movie will end on one Kamehameha and that will be it.
If it doesn't end that way, I will be surprised. |
The guys at Wired just posted some horrifying pictures of the tie-in game for this.

I was actually a little surprised when I realized that this is actually happening, for real.
Although personally I think it will be bad, even cringe worthy bad, but it can't be all that bad. >.> I mean, I seen both Hong Kong Version and Taiwanese version of "Live action dragonball", those were bad, but this? Meh. And as a kid I thought those were freaking awesome. I am sure some people (kids, maybe) might be just as entertained. |

and needs more Akuma. |

The way I see this movie is: This movie is like a big piece of chocolate cake for a person who is on a diet. It looks good from a distance and you treat it as a guilty pleasure. Deep down you know its bad for you and your going to feel guilty for even looking at it. Nothing good is going to come out of it.
Will I see it; more than likely. Will I enjoy it; highly doubtful To even strengthen the argument that this movie will probably suck, there have been a whole bunch of scenes released from the movie. I guess they need anything to try to build any kind of hype for this movie.
Enjoy these or mock them to your hearts content. |
Quote:
I wouldn't even say it looked good from a distance. I compare it to a poorly baked chocolate cake using a good recipe. It looks like a great idea when its on paper. But then you eventually put everything together. After you bake it it winds up looking like shit. |
Where is Krillin. There can't be a Dragon Ball movie without Krillin. Are they saving him as a secret or something?
|
It's a stupid question by this far but...
It's Akira Toriyama aware of this horrible piece of (insert your worst curse) ? I mean, OK, you have a franchise make as much money and business and turn it famous...BUT THIS??!! IMO there's a difference between a parody and an insult, and this is obviously an insult. I'm not that diehard fan but Hollywood please...respect what might be sacred to some for once. I'm over 9,000% sure that in my country (where DB, DBZ and DBGT was an astounding success) and maybe the rest of the globe that this is going to be a Legendary Epical Fail and I didn't use a scouter for this calculation... All thumbs down for this, not even worth a laugh. |
Quote:
ITS OVER NINE THOUSSSAAANNNNDDDDDDDDDD! But I agree that this movie is a complete insult. I'm wondering if this movie is even YARRRR-able. Well...worth it I mean. I mean someone mentioned it already, but In the trailers...it looks as though goku is a total puss in that he says "I don't think I'm ready" If I remember right...didn't Goku ALWAYS think he was ready? Even when he was laid out in the hospital. |
Hmmm from those clips it looks like an interesting take on Dragonball. It doesn't look completely horrible. Put aside obvious biases and it could be fairly enjoyable.
|
Quote:
But then again, I'm not sure they could cast an 8 year old and have him pull off everything the younger goku could. I used to watch Dragonball and DBZ back in the days of me being a teen, and while I enjoyed the show for what it was (nothing but fighting and grunts), I don't think this movie will shine on the series in a negative way. I mean, if you think DBZ was a massive spectacle of animation and storytelling, you need to get your head checked. My only qualm (if you can even call it that) is that Roshi won't be perverted in anyway in this movie, and is Mr. Super Serious...but I could be pleasantly surprised...Chow Yun Fat hasn't failed me yet. |
Is Jason Statham playing Krillen :0
|
Well, if they can make people look like hobbits, anything is possible.
|
Quote:
Roshi might the only character thats portrayed closest to the anime. Shows perverted-ness, thinks highly of himself, acts like an energetic old man. |
Well, there we go. Chow Yun Fat doesn't fail me >.>.
I'll more than likely enjoy this movie due to the fact they did at least try to capture the spirit of the show, instead of making it a carbon copy. It's just going to be a light hearted martial arts movie, that's it. Other than Chow Yun Fat, the woman who plays Bulma seems to portray her pretty well, although I can see at times she's -way- too serious about it. |
This movie is gonna rule and there's nothing you crybaby nerds can do about it
|
Dunno man it might ruin the quality of a highly prestigious comic book
|
oh no they might take out all the parts where Master Roshi molests a teenager
|
but those was my favorites :catgonk:
|
Hey that's a highly important scene and I think it would be a crime to eliminate it just to suit the short attention spans of

HEY FELLAS WANNA WATCH DA MOVIE?!
MEGAVIDEO - I'm watching it It's pretty bad. But I guess it's about average for a B movie. Not worth spending any money on. |
Quote:
Too bad it couldn't be on a streaming site with a chatbox so we could start off the week with a GFF Bad Movie Sunday. Seriously LoLing at Oozaru. Oh and come on, the fucking dragon, couldn't they just stretch the crap out of him. There is no image they got right, it was just a teen humping movie. |
If I didn't have a completely shitty connection it would be fun to do something like mogulus.
|
I have this awful genetic defect that handicaps me from ever really viewing a movie as a 'bad movie'. For the most part I always find some sort of redeeming factor in every single movie I watch, whether it's "Titanic" to "House of the Dead" to "The Wizard of Oz". The only two movies to that exception, that I flat out would never watch again with a gun to my head is "Disaster Movie" and "Alone in the Dark".
That being said, and after I finally sat down and watched the shitty quality, I didn't think that the movie was that bad in terms of what it actually is. If you look hard enough with what they changed from the manga/anime to fit a more 'widespread' audience, they still kept somewhat to the source material. Chi-chi's a rich daddy's girl who knows how to fight, Roshi still technically lives on an island surrounded by water, so forth and so on. The dialogue/acting had it's hang-ups, but this movie suffers from every Live action adaptation of an anime or a game or whatever...and that it is too fast paced and tries to cram in too much. Spoiler:
|
Once they opted to make Goku a skinny white guy all bets were off. There's really nothing important they could have kept from the comics other than the general spirit plus DBZ sucks dragonball was fun
|
well brady if it makes you feel any worse this movie is based on Dragon Ball for the most part and not Z
and the way it ends it sets itself up for a sequel |
I remember Frieza being in it, or something.
Either way dragonball rules and this movie is gonna rule |
Quote:
|
well, they don't meet krillen until after the introduce bulma and yamcha so maybe they just tried to keep their meeting in order. And even if they did get a krillen we know they'd take the other route and make him as tall as goku with very short hair.
That aside, doesn't anyone feel that this really wasn't for a "New Audience". I mean just look at the end. Goku's story was told in less than ten second and was never talked about again so it was obviously for people who knew the material. And also, goku and chi chi hardly had any screen time together and yet they wanted hump each other through the whole film. Oh wait but maybe this part was correct, chi chi was interested in goku at first sight in the dragonball series wasn't she? |

Call me crazy, but I would have rather had that then trying to watch some 10 year old trying to fight big bad guys. |
I know its not perfect or even looks corny, but I like the style in which Astro Boy is being made and I wouldn't have minded seeing dragonball being made this way. I mean it was a kids movie to start with right? I just think 3d animation would have been a good step and even a 10 year old goku would have been fun to watch this way
