Ceft Oct 29, 2007 06:59 PM

Uhm, ok. My nom isn't up there. It seems that the Dragon Gun entry got smashed into mine as it is not from the WANDERINGS album. That's what mine is from. =/

orion_mk3 Oct 29, 2007 07:07 PM

Let's fix that then, shall we?

EDIT: Fixed.

Ceft Oct 29, 2007 08:03 PM

Hmm, now my nom doesn't want to stream. Sorry for the problems.

orion_mk3 Oct 29, 2007 08:26 PM

Hm, I have no idea why it won't stream. I tried a little percent-encoding on it, which usually works to clear things like that up, but to no avail. It might be a quirk of temporarily linking to the files from the upload directory.

Bigblah Oct 29, 2007 09:12 PM

I fixed the problem by replacing the single quote with %27.

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Oct 29, 2007 10:06 PM

I'll toss up a new nom.

Album: Persona 2: Eternal Punishment Punitive Dance
Title: Akachochin Shiraishi ~Burn With Passion~
Composers: Kenichi Tsuchiya, Masaki Kurokawa, Takehiro Kawabe, Ryuuichi Katsumata, Takeo Miratsu
Track Number: 2
Year: 2000
Catalog Number: FMCD-1002
Source: Chudah's Corner

I couldn't tell which composers and arrangers worked on which tracks, so I listed them all.

katchum Oct 30, 2007 03:16 AM

Album: Melty Blood Act Cadenza ver. B
Title: For Crimson Air
Composers: Watanabe
Track Number: 16
Catalog Number: N/A
gamerip-mp3: XTHost.info download page
source: Melty Blood: Act Cadenza Soundtrack

If that is not eligible then:

Promised Dawn: Melty Blood Original Soundtrack
Catalog Number N/A
Release Date Apr 29, 2003
Release Type Official Release
Release Price Unknown
Media Type CD (2 discs)
Classification Original Soundtrack
Published by Type Moon + Watanabe Production
Composed by Raito, Kate
track: 10 for Crimson Air (Shrine Rooftop - Crimson)

Asian Legends had some weird high pitch sound in it I didn't like. Otherwise good composition but a little too traditional Chinese for me. The combination Chinese-rock was a bit over for me.
3 points: Title Screen: I like the melody
1 point: Monster of the Forest
1 point: Asian Legends
1 point: Mission 01: cool song

orion_mk3 Oct 30, 2007 03:45 PM

There will be a period of instability while we transition the temporary links to more permanent ones. As a result, the links may go down over the next hour or so. I'll update when the process is complete.

EDIT: The new links are up, and have been tested. Shouldn't be any further problems.

Ceft Oct 30, 2007 04:53 PM

Crappy week IMHO.

(3 points) WANDERINGS - "Casefile" Event List
(2 points) Crusader: No Remorse (PC Game Rip) - Mission 01

Here is my point spread for this week:

2 points : WANDERINGS - "Casefile" Event List
2 points : DRAGON GUN ~Divine Flame~ (Arrange ver.)
1 point : Battle Arena Toshinden 3 (Game Rip) - Sho's Theme
1 point : Nexus 6581 - Asian Legends

Ed Bellis Oct 31, 2007 07:25 PM

First-time voter. Apologies if I do anything wrong.

Ranking my three top songs:
1. Title Screen (Rockman 5: Blues' Trap?!)
2. "Casefile" Event List (Wanderings)
3. Asian Legends (Nexus 6581)

I tend to like songs with expressive melodies, and the Mega Man song was incredibly catchy. I'm also a sucker for Asian-themed songs, which is why Asian Legends appealed to me, though it dragged on a bit too long for my liking. Not a big fan of vocal songs, so I didn't much care for the Shin Megami Tensei piece.

Ceft Oct 31, 2007 07:39 PM

@Ed Bellis: Welcome to the SotW! New participants are always welcome. The way in which you voted is fine, but I just wanted to let you know you can assign point values to the songs out of a total 6 points that you are allowed to assign. You might want to check out the Voting Rules for more information.

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Oct 31, 2007 07:39 PM

Usually people point out how many points they're giving each track. There's several ways to break it down: 3-2-1; 2-2-2; 3-1-1-1; 2-1-1-1; etc.

Any combination that adds up to six is fair. You can distribute less than six.

Drakken Oct 31, 2007 08:29 PM

Welcome, Ed! Always nice to have new participants. Feel free to nominate a song if you'd like after checking out the rules here.

Also, just to further clarify what SCHWARZE-6 said, you can't award a single song more than three points.

orion_mk3 Oct 31, 2007 09:51 PM

Dammit, comments destroyed by system logging me out. Points now, comments later.

The Point Spread
3 pts. - Monster of the Forest
2 pts. - Case File
1 pt. - Sho's Theme
Just Missed - Dragon Gun

TheKnightOfNee Nov 1, 2007 02:32 AM

Glad to see you finally join, Ed Bellis!

Overall, I think this was a decent week, as I wanted to give a lot of songs points, but there wasn't anything too amazing.
2 points - Battle Arena Toshinden 3 (Game Rip) - Sho's Theme
2 points - WANDERINGS - "Casefile" Event List
1 point - Crusader: No Remorse (PC Game Rip) - Mission 01
1 point - Rockman Complete Works: Rockman 5: Blues' Trap!? (Game Rip) - Title Screen
Out of points - Dragon Gun; Asian Legend

Duck King Nov 1, 2007 10:33 AM

3 points: Crusader: No Remorse (PC Game Rip) - Mission 01
1 point: Battle Arena Toshinden 3 (Game Rip) - Sho's Theme
1 point: DRAGON GUN ~Divine Flame~ (Arrange ver.)
1 point: Nexus 6581 - Asian Legends
I'm quite sorry, but you were nice: Title Screen, Casefile, Monster of the Forest

So many good tracks this week, pity there weren't enough points to go around. Also, heartfealt welcomes to the new participant.

My next nom:
  • Album Title: Savage (C64 Game Rip)
  • Artist: Jeroen Tel, Maniacs of Noise
  • Track Title: Intro
  • Source: Savage for Commodore 64 - MobyGames
  • File Location: nominations folder (upcoming)
  • Disc Number: 1 (of 1)
  • Track Number: 01
  • Catalogue Number: NA
  • Year: 1988

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Nov 1, 2007 02:39 PM

Feeling under the weather, so only points here:

3 Points: Title Screen
1 Point: Sho's Theme
1 Point: Asian Legends
1 Point: "Casefile" Event List

Golfdish from Hell Nov 1, 2007 06:20 PM

Pretty straightforward week...

3 pts - Dragongun (so Top Gun, it hurts...in a good way)
2 pts - Overture ~ Song of Death (Hotel Gomaden ~ Title) (why do I have the feeling I'm probably the only one voting for this)
1 pts - Sho's Theme
Close: Asian Legend (preferred the melody of Sho)

I hadn't heard the Megaman 5 opening, but I was disppointed with it...Mid-tempo light keyboards with a techno backdrop in sort of an overall jazz-fusion style aren't what I want from anything Megaman. Something more upbeat or rockin' highly preferred.

surasshu Nov 1, 2007 07:58 PM

Well first time participant here as well, been wanting to join in on this occasionally but never found the time...

But I really do want to vote this time since one of those "was the start of my whole Goddamn career" guys is nominated this time--Andrew "necros" Sega. I absolutely adored the Crusader: No Remorse soundtrack from the moment I heard it, and I still do.

Some of these other songs are pretty awesome as well, so I can safely vote:

3 points: Crusader: No Remorse (PC Game Rip) - Mission 01
2 points: WANDERINGS - "Casefile" Event List
1 point: DRAGON GUN ~Divine Flame~ (Arrange ver.)

Now, I'd also like to nominate a track, it's a bit of an oddball, it's "rare" (by which I mean gh doesn't have it :D), and it's only 30 seconds long, but it's so deliciously awesome that I just can't stop listening to it, and thinking about trying to remix it but then realizing that those 30 seconds contain so much and such intricate musicality that I'd have a super hard time even figuring out the basics.

Anyway.

Artist(s): SEGA
Album/Game: Virtua Racing Arcade version (Game Rip)
Track Title: Name Entry
Tracknumber: N/A
Year: 1992
Download the mp3: here!
Source: http://www.virtuaracing.com/

I couldn't find much info on the game (like composer and so on), and I was only able to find a 128kbps game rip that was recorded right off the machine output on Minidisk and then compressed, so the quality of the sound isn't that awesome either. But it's seriously one hell of a song, if you have a cabinet near you, go out and listen to this song in full quality. :D

Also, let me know if I did something wrong, it's possible!

Anyway, hope to participate in more of these, it's a really nice way to discover some cool new music. Never heard that WANDERINGS track before and it's really great.

Unfortunately, you can't give more than 3 points to any one song (to keep nominators from giving their tracks 6-point boosts), so you'll have to drop Mission by one point and give a point to another song.

I'm sure that our crack nomination research team can help you out on your nom, though. The most important thing is that you have a copy handy, which it looks like you do.

Thanks for participating, and hope to see you around in the future!

Gragh! That makes sense, I was wondering why nobody put more than 3 points into any one song...

If it was up to me, nominators couldn't vote for their own song altogether, but I guess that it might discourage people from nominating at all. I'd better not try to mess with a system that's already working, though. Anyway fixed! Thanks for the heads up. :D

Also, yeah, if anyone has a better quality rip of that soundtrack (although all the tracks are like that, or shorter, so perhaps "soundtrack" is a big word), I'd absolutely love to hear it.

THE POWER OF WATER Nov 2, 2007 12:21 PM

CRACK NOMINATION RESEARCH TEAM GO

Virtua Racing got a joint soundtrack with OutRunners. Track 19 on disc 2 sounds like your track, surasshu. Lemme know if this is acceptable: http://sotw.info/music/nominations/2...me%20entry.mp3

2 POINTS -- DRAGON GUN ~Divine Flame~ (Arrange ver.)
2 POINTS -- Rockman Complete Works: Rockman 5: Blues' Trap!? (Game Rip) - Title Screen
1 POINT -- Battle Arena Toshinden 3 (Game Rip) - Sho's Theme
1 POINT -- Seiken Densetsu DS CHILDREN of MANA -Original Soundtrack- - Monster of the Forest
Nexus 6581 - Asian Legends - Oh, I remember this melody from that ninja game "Lengendry". We initially thought he was rescuing his mother. Never would have thought it is a princess because she kinda looks old.

NOM NOM:
Artist: Nauts
Title: Apparitions Stalk the Night (title has no meaning as it's an arrangement)
Album: Cradle
Track No.: 04 from Disc 01
Year: 2004
Info: Nauts is from [N-Square] I think. He composed for [SoundTemp] Talesweaver OST.

Huh? That's not the title screen from Rockman/Megaman 5. I believe it is, in fact, the end credits.

Yeah, Epsilon must be right, because the track was definitely called "Title Screen" in the rip.

If it places, we'll have to figure out whether to leave the name as it is (bad; inaccurate) or change it (bad; it's not just a mistranslation, but the ripper specifically called it that, so if someone tracks down the rest of the rip, they'll see a track named "Credits" there and this one with a completely different name).

Darkcomet72 Nov 4, 2007 02:34 PM

My next nom:

Artist: Manabu Namiki
Game: Zedblade (Operation Ragnarok) (Game rip)
Track: Universe Blue (Yueez MIX) (Stage 2 & 5)
Track #: 05 (in this game rip)
Catalol number #: no
The year is 1994
Source: ƒIƒyƒŒ[ƒVƒ‡ƒ“ ƒ‰ƒOƒiƒƒN@ŒÂlƒƒ‚ , Veldan Local Laboratory 3rd: さんたるる

I managed to find a rip of Zedblade a couple months ago off VGMcentral. It came with a TXT file where some guy "Starbucks Cofee" asks if an OST was available. The tracks are unlooped, so I've used the power of science and magic to loop this one track for SotW.

Get it here (Megaupload link)

Also the tracks in the rip were simply labeled Stage 1(&6), Stage 2(&5), etc. I don't really mind, but the above source links seem to acknowledge the existence of track names, despite there being no album for the game. I have no idea how I found the latter site or what it means exactly, but I think it definitively proves that Namiki is God of the universe.

Elorin Nov 4, 2007 02:58 PM

This was an interesting week, with some really nice pieces.

(2 points) Nexus 6581 - Asian Legends

(2 points) Rockman Complete Works Rockman 5 Blues' Trap!! (Game Rip) - Title Screen

(2 point) Crusader - No Remorse (PC Game Rip) - Mission 01

WANDERINGS just missed.

ikkei Nov 4, 2007 06:33 PM

I would have been more confortable with a little more of time, but let's vote anyway:

3 points ~ Sho's theme
2 points ~ Monster of the forest
1 point ~ Title Screen (or ending theme?)

Rimo Nov 4, 2007 06:50 PM

Before it's too late...

(3 points) Nexus 6581 - Asian Legends
(2 points) Crusader: No Remorse (PC Game Rip) - Mission 01
(1 point) Battle Arena Toshinden 3 (Game Rip) - Sho's Theme

I've had mixed feelings this week. There were good songs, yet for many I felt they were too generic for my tastes to really enjoy them.

kuttlas Nov 4, 2007 08:00 PM

3 Points - Nexus 6581 - Asian Legends
2 Points - DRAGON GUN ~Divine Flame~ (Arrange ver.)

This week was Pretty weak if ya ask me hyukhyukhyukhyuk

*original joke don't steal

Golfdish from Hell Nov 4, 2007 08:33 PM

I think I had long retired "Song of the Weak" before that, kuttlas. :D

Great minds think alike.

Kaleb.G Nov 4, 2007 10:52 PM

I thought this was a good week.

3 points - Seiken Densetsu DS CHILDREN of MANA -Original Soundtrack- - Monster of the Forest
2 points - Nexus 6581 - Asian Legends
1 point - Rockman Complete Works: Rockman 5: Blues' Trap!? (Game Rip) - Title Screen
a point in spirit - DRAGON GUN ~Divine Flame~ (Arrange ver.)

Would have gone for a 2-2-1-1 spread but I feel that CoM deserves 3 points. It has a great soundtrack and it's a shame that it's not more appreciated. They didn't even bother releasing a printed soundtrack or a full arrange version. Shitty.

Liontamer Nov 4, 2007 11:45 PM

Can I say that I am not surprised that I lost again, even when I was winning throughout most of it?

Drakken Nov 5, 2007 12:34 PM

Boy, this was a close one. I feel bad for not taking the time to listen and vote now. :-/

Expect week 112 to be up late afternoon/evening.

Of the ones that did not win, I think Monster of the Forest was definitely "win" material.

I say we put it with the correct name, rather than the incorrect label. It'll cause more confusion if we leave it as "Title Screen" when it's really the credits.

Zephyrin Nov 6, 2007 12:56 AM

My nom:

Artist: More Yamasan & B.B.
Album: Ninja Gaiden ~ G.S.M. Tecmo 1
Track: 16 Assault - Stealthy Devil 0:44
Cat #: D28B-0013
Year: 1989

It's only 44 seconds long, so maybe a once over loop would make it fit better, although I don't mind listening to the tracks as they are with short timeslots.

Elorin Nov 6, 2007 11:27 AM

I actually thought there were a few tracks on Children of Mana that were a tad more interesting than "Monster of the Forest" but I must admit that in some other weeks, the song would have gotten point/s from me.

THE POWER OF WATER Nov 7, 2007 08:05 PM

After two votes for retag, one by TKON in this thread and one by Crash in IRC, I've renamed the MM5 track to "Credits." Nya.
