Alright, here's a temporary nom so I don't end up not getting a nom in again:
Album: Drawn to Life (DS rip) Track: Snowy World Artist: ??? (haven't seen the credits yet) Source: My cartridge File: On my HD Comments: Fun, refreshing music in this game. I think the rocket ship music would be more popular with people here, but I really like this song. |
The Napple Tale track is incomplete; the last third has been completely omitted.
I've uploaded the correct-length track to the Nominations folder. If someone could swap it in, that'd be great. Thanks. |
I've noticed a small mistake in the title of a song:
The Terminator: "Destinations Unknown" -> "Destinationz Unknown" That's how Mr. Tallarico named his track. |
Bah, "Destinations Unknown" has a nice poetic zing to it, but "Destionationz Unknown" sounds like the name of a bad college band. The name's been corrected for those who must mind their Z's and Q's.
I've also linked to the nominations folder version of Napple Tale for the time being. |
Quote:
So I wonder if it was a stylistic spelling or if he just didn't know how to spell it, period. |
The Napple Tale error has been corrected, and the link returned to the Voting directory.

Should've bugged Dragon God for a nom last week. He says:

You know what? This week, this might just be the
BEST WEEK EVER. Seriously, I saved every single nomination that wasn't my own. Immortal 3 - Obsession 'Desert Run': There's a nice blend of old-school charm and modern synth at play. The bass is particularly strong but the sweep effects are equally good. The Immortal series has donated some good stuff to SotW. Lemmings 2 The Tribes (Amiga Game Rip) - Sports: Though similar in style to the first track, this piece stands on its own with a good melody and an interesting cadence. Napple Tale Vol. 2 Illustrated Guide to the Monsters - Wild Wind: Now and then, you find a track that is nothing less than pure magic. For me, "Wild Wind" is flawless. It's vibrant, joyful, enveloping, and very memorable - everything I look for in a track. This is Kanno at her absolute best. Shining Force III Premium Disc (Game Rip) - A Life of Harmony: This is probably the weakest track of the week, and that is quite impressive because this could've placed during other weeks. The melody and tone are very nice. The only element plaguing this piece is the poor recording quality; it sounds murkier than I believe it truly should. The Terminator (Sega CD Red Book Audio) - Destinationz Unknown: I'm generally not a fan of Tommy Tallarico (I also think he's a shameless egotist) but this caught me by surprise. It's a very well developed track and it's nice to hear some quality shredding. The background elements are also fantastic. Unlike other guitar pieces, this one doesn't overdo itself. The superfluous music box ending is just weird but it doesn't really hurt anything. Finally, a Tallarico piece worth keeping. The Wanderer - G-Comp: Jogeir Liljedahl makes some great mood music. Half folk, half trance, his compositions are quite tranquil and soothing. It's no wonder Bjorn Lynne likes him; they have similar approaches. I don't think G-Comp is the best track of the "The Wanderer" album but it's far from the worst. Waterworld (SNES Game Rip) - Diving: This one took its sweet time to get somewhere interesting but once it arrived, it was very impressive. I'm no fan of the SNES's limited sound capabilities but when someone can work around that and make a track as gorgeous and flowing as "Diving", it's worth applause. If I'd heard this elsewhere and been told it was an SNES gamerip, I'd have been rather skeptical. Ys III Wanderers from Ys (PC-Engine Red Book Audio) - Be Careful : Guitars & synth, about what I expect from the better Ys tracks. I like the urgent pacing and the way the rhythm guitar just chugs along with the bassline. The guitars are nicely balanced by the piano and drums, so none of it becomes tiresome. A very good track. 3 Points: Napple Tale Vol. 2 Illustrated Guide to the Monsters - Wild Wind 1 Point: The Terminator (Sega CD Red Book Audio) - Destinationz Unknown 1 Point: Immortal 3 - Obsession 'Desert Run' 1 Point: Waterworld (SNES Game Rip) - Diving I'm serious when I say that this is the best week we've had in ages, if ever. There were no weak tracks at all. Ideally, they should all place, as each one is deserving of a spot on the SotW page. Great nominating, folks! |
First off, let me assert what Crash has said; this week is quality stuff. I recall thinking the same while listening to the tracks when I first got them a couple of days ago. I liked all of the songs, and some could easily place/win golds in any other average SotW week. Having said that, I don't think my point spread does it justice, as I have a nom I love and would like to support it in full. (Btw, have you guys ever considered of introducing a rule to disallow nominators from voting for their own nominations?)
3 points: Waterworld (SNES Game Rip) - Diving 2 points: The Terminator (Sega CD Red Book Audio) - Destinationz Unknown 1 point: Immortal 3 - Obsession 'Desert Run' Runner-ups: Be Careful, Wild Wind, G-Comp... heck, all the rest. Finally, here's my next nomination:
|
This week was beyond excellent. Hell, I enjoyed the tracks I didn't give points to. Be Careful was nothing short of solid. A Life Of Harmony was pleasing as all get out. Obsession "Desert Run" had all sorts of quirky charms. G-Comp was begging to be placed, it's that good. Those songs didn't get points.
Which means these three (sorry Lemmings, wasn't a fan) are real cream of the crop. (2 points) Waterworld (SNES Game Rip) - Diving (2 points) Napple Tale Vol. 2 Illustrated Guide to the Monsters - Wild Wind (2 points) The Terminator (Sega CD Red Book Audio) - Destinationz Unknown |

Immortal 3 - Obsession 'Desert Run' Some nice, lively techno that doesn't fall into the trap of being hyper-repetitive. Not very deserty, perhaps, but who cares? Lemmings 2 The Tribes (Amiga Game Rip) - Sports Perhaps it suffers in comparison with the previous track, but this song (like all Lemmings tunes) didn't do much for me. It's too diffuse for my taste, and the melody was nothing special. Napple Tale Vol. 2 Illustrated Guide to the Monsters - Wild Wind Yoko Kanno is capable of some pretty tremendous stuff, but most of her material we've been treated to in SoTW has been on the banal side. This track, however, is stright out of her best, filled with bright orchestral colors and a lively melody. The slight Celtic lit adds a nice jaunty edge to the music, and the synth is excellent. In short, a fantastic song that'll be hard to beat for my number one spot. Shining Force III Premium Disc (Game Rip) - A Life of Harmony Rather similar in tone to the Napple Tale song that preceded it, this track has a nice lit to it, with a strong melody and plenty of color. The synth is a little tinny, but the music's strength is stil evident. I'd very much like to hear more in the same vein. The Terminator (Sega CD Red Book Audio) - Destinationz Unknown This piece builds a definite atmosphere with some nice keyboard work and guitar accents. Most of the time, the music doesn't rise above the basic keyboard and guitar churning, and when it does it's not for any sort of melodic interlude, but shredding some lixx. It's not bad, but there's a lot of unrealized potential. The Wanderer - G-Comp Laid-back aucoustic guitar work with some instrumental synth support and a slight hint of salsa. I like the atmosphere and flute melody here, though at times the song is a bit too Latin for my tastes. Waterworld (SNES Game Rip) - Diving If ever there was a song with some serious baggage attached to its name... Another atmoshperic piece, it manages a nice mood and techno feel even with SNES synth, which is no mean feat. It's a tad long, though, and meanders a bit toward the end. Ys III Wanderers from Ys (PC-Engine Red Book Audio) - Be Careful When it comes to Ys songs, I always hope for a dash of genuine rock opera styling, which the series often delivers (though just as often it coughs up a mass of noise like a bad hairball). This tune is somewhere in the middle, with some nice energy and little noodling but a melody that fails to really break out. More unrealized potential. A very good week. I don't know that I'd call it the best ever--hell, I can only remember the last ten or so weeks out of 100+ with any clarity--but it was still enjoyable. The Point Spread Napple Tale - 3 pts. Shining Force - 2 pts. The Wanderer - 1 pt. |

I'd like a concensus on this track's eligibility. I think it's obscure despite appearances, but I'm just one person.
Album: Rockman Complete Works: Rockman 5: Blues' Trap!? (PS2 Gamerip) Composer: MARI Title: Title Screen Year: 2003 Additional Notes: This track is an exclusive arrangement of the title music from Mega Man 5 and was exclusively available on the Anniversary Collection. Players could opt to play through some of the games with alternate versions of the music in areas. "Title Screen" is one such arrangement. I also believe that my copy is somewhat mistagged and may need to be corrected before its respective week. This may push the boundaries a bit, true, but hear me out. When most people think of Megaman music, Anniversary Collections are not the first place they look. In fact, most people would be inclined to think that the music is identical because it's just all the NES games on one disc. With the smothering of Megaman, X, Zero, and .EXE titles already on the market, the Anniversary Collection was an easily overlooked drop in the bucket, sought out only by hardcore fans of the original games - not exactly an intuitive place for Capcom to hide new music. So yay or nay? |
Posting my support of this track. I've talked with Crash a couple of times about it. There is something vitally important I must point out:

Frankly, you could probably make a case for MM5's soundtrack in itself being eligible (given how many people were unfamiliar with it in the MM contest awhile back). Needless to say, I see no issue at all with this track.
Okay, interesting question: The "mixes" in Anniversary Collection. Eligible or no? They were arrangements that were in the game, but not while playing the game (they were a selectable bonus on the side). Just a fun "what-if". |
yay for rockman!
btw, if you are interested in rockman arranges on this site are two torrents Not currently engaged in Employment, Education or Training [NEET] [Album] (2007-10-08) Colis Postal × RIGHT STUFF - Rocklove (M3-2007秋) [Ogg Vorbis] this one is club, trance, techno remixes, I found it to be average [NEET] [Album] (2007-10-08) takrockers!! - R.O.C.K.MAN (M3-2007秋) [Ogg Vorbis] this one is probably synth rock, I have no idea since I haven't listened to it yet --- 2 Points - Wild Wind: very festive and mediaval 2 Points - Destinationz Unknown: phear ma leet skillz 2 Points - Diving: good ambiance |
With CHz's explanation--that it is an original track created for the anniversary edition--I would say that it's fine. I would strongly oppose any actual MM5 tune, original or remixed (and that pretty much goes for anything from the classic or X series).
The one thing that would worry me is making Crash's track a precedent for getting widely-known tracks from the series snuck into SotW thanks to people seeing the "MM5" tag and nothing else. |
2 points - Immortal 3 - Obsession 'Desert Run'
2 points - Lemmings 2 The Tribes (Amiga Game Rip) - Sports 1 point - The Wanderer - G-Comp 1 point - Waterworld (SNES Game Rip) - Diving And as I expressed in chat last night, I think Crash's nomination fits the eligibility. |
As an original piece composed for the Anniversary Collection, Crash's nom is fine.

Also, I have the ps1 Mega Man 5, and if it matters, that remix that's being nominated WAS in that version verbatim. |

MM5 wouldn't be on that list (nor would 6-Forte). X1 and X4 would be... |
Quote:
|
I know...Anyone can. My point was it's not going to "open the floodgates" if everyone has a clear idea in their own minds what is and isn't eligible. I'll readily admit I'd be in the minority of people who'd allow MM5 (my reasoning is most people were unfamiliar with it in the MM contest and its profile isn't as prolific as 1-4, especially 2)...However, I don't think the issue of obscurity is as much as it seems to be sometimes.
|
I'd also exclude 1-8.5 and at least X1-3 (never played nor listened to X4-8, so those are fine to me, but it's no big deal if any of those are cut).
And while we're at it, hell, let's just run the gamut here:
Side note: I am hereby reserving all future rights to nominate Museum from R&F if it at some point in time becomes explicitly eligible. |
I would argue on 7-8.5 due to no official soundtrack being released (at least until November) and the series' popularity dying throughout the 90's. I would vote "yay" on MM5 or MM6 or X5-X8, but I wouldn't argue it too much (though I don't ever remember X8's music coming up in any discussion I've seen).
Other than that, yeah pretty much the above. Sorry to say, Rockman isn't as high-profile as MM2 would lead people to believe...Or at least not ALL aspects of it. |
Ah-hah, I was right about those floodgates! Look at CHz already calling dibs on future nominations! I am nothing if not a prophet :D
Seriously, though, I would push for a blanket prohibition on the entire classic and X series, since there's a real nebulousness at where a "taper off" occurs in them both. I'd also be very squamish about the GB games, but that's probably because I'm very familiar with them. The others seem like relatively unpopular or obscure side stories or gaidens (or a full series in the case of BN), which are fine by me. I've never even heard of Star Force. |
Yeah, looks like a real apocalypse on the horizon...Guess I better inflate the liferaft.
Just curious how many times you've listened to the Rockman and Forte SPC set (or rip...or whatever's out there). I've heard it from half-heartedly playing the game, but I can't tell you much more than that. |
(2 Points) Immortal 3 - Obsession 'Desert Run'

Additional Spam: Didn't think this week was overtly great myself. 3 pts - Be Careful (zero surprise nothing else measured up to this one) 2 pts - A Life of Harmony (so predictable, but very nicely put together) 1 pts - Sports (not always sure what to expect from Lemmings, but really fun) Wild Wind was close before the flute came in. Was hoping for more than a meandering, midtempo rocker from the Terminator track...Crash's mention of "quality shredding" had my hopes up (though the solos and the second half were generally good). |
Very good week.
(2 points) Ys III: Wanderers from Ys (PC-Engine Red Book Audio) - Be Careful (2 points) The Wanderer - G-Comp (1 point) The Terminator (Sega CD Red Book Audio) - Destinationz Unknown (1 point) Napple Tale Vol. 2 Illustrated Guide to the Monsters - Wild Wind |
My ears (and heart) have been pleased by most songs this week. Alas, points come in a limited number...
(3 points) The Wanderer - G-Comp (2 points) Waterworld (SNES Game Rip) - Diving (1 point) Immortal 3 - Obsession 'Desert Run' ------------------------------------------------ To be economic on posts, I'll take this opportunity to nominate a new song: Arranger: Reyn Ouwehand Composer: Rob Hubbard, Martin Galway, Fred Gray, Ben Daglish, Matt Gray, Reyn Ouwehand, Neil Brennan Album: Nexus 6581 Track Title: Asian Legends Track Number: 10 Year: 2000 Catalog Number: PP001 Additional Information: An arrangement-medley of several C64 martial arts games. 3 points - Waterworld (SNES Game Rip) - Diving
2 points - Ys III Wanderers from Ys (PC-Engine Red Book Audio) - Be Careful 1 point - Immortal 3 - Obsession 'Desert Run' I really like the style of this Waterworld song. I'll have to download the soundtrack now. "Be Careful" is good, though I prefer the Oath in Felghana version. |
Quick vote:
(2 points) Napple Tale Vol. 2 Illustrated Guide to the Monsters - Wild Wind (2 points) The Wanderer - G-Comp (2 points) Waterworld (SNES Game Rip) - Diving Terminator nearly got points. |
Trying to listen and vote by 12:30 AM EST; no hard feelings if this is not allowed.
Additional Spam: 3 points: Waterworld (SNES Game Rip) - Diving 2 points: The Wanderer - G-Comp 1 point: The Terminator (Sega CD Red Book Audio) - Destinationz Unknown Close: Napple Tale Vol. 2 Illustrated Guide to the Monsters - Wild Wind Waterworld was a surprise. Felt like a .5 Follin. :-) |
2 pts. - Wild Wind
2 pts. - Diving 1 pt. - G-Comp 1 pt. - Be Careful Also, I have to change my nom last minute because I accidentally erased my save file for the game I was going to rip a nom from (Drawn to Life). So, new nom: Track: Shadow Devourer Album: Sword Maniac Artist: Hitoshi Sakimoto Track #: 3 Year: 1993 Catalog #: TOCT-8253 Source: GMR Comments: I hate to nominate something from an arranged album I already nominated from, but there are two gems on the album (the other being Mad Buffoon), and I really wanted everyone to hear this. I know it's Sakimoto, but this album should still be obscure enough that it's allowed (and it's not typical Sakimoto). |
Voting extensions are always okay, providing they're for a reasonable time period. Couple of hours? Sure, go for it. Just let me know beforehand.
And with that, voting is closed and nominations are restricted! 1). [30] Waterworld (SNES Game Rip) - Diving 2). [22] Napple Tale Vol. 2 Illustrated Guide to the Monsters - Wild Wind 3). [18] Ys III Wanderers from Ys (PC-Engine Red Book Audio) - Be Careful 4-t). [16/10.5] Immortal 3 - Obsession 'Desert Run' 4-t). [16/10.5] The Wanderer - G-Comp 6). [14] The Terminator (Sega CD Red Book Audio) - Destinationz Unknown 7). [7] Shining Force III Premium Disc (Game Rip) - A Life of Harmony 8). [4] Lemmings 2 The Tribes (Amiga Game Rip) - Sports Diving and Wild Wind were pretty much locks wire to wire, but the battle for third place was pretty tight. Be Careful got a big last day boost to finally take the last spot. Close one that came down to the finish. |
Sweet! Gold and in a very tough week with some very high-scoring nominators! Well, I'm glad you fine folks approve of my nomination. Definitely check out the rest of the soundtrack. There's a number of good track there. I particularly fell in love with the Map theme, too. Although, I ultimately went with Diving, being a much fuller and more satisfying experience for me.
Congratulations to Wild Wind and Be Careful. As I've pointed on my other post, those two songs were the first I would have considered for points if I had some to spare. Btw, I usually don't do so, but I double-checked the points on the voting archive and this caught my eye; there's a small discrepancy between Liontamer's points here and the ones on the table. It won't alter the first 3 placings, but a point needs to be taken off Wild Wind and given to G-Comp, which should give it 4th place instead of Obsession 'Desert Run', if I'm not mistaken. (While we're at it, someone mind confirming how this weighting system works?) |
Wow, 4th or 5th. Now you understand why I quit b4.
|
EDIT: Misunderstood your post. Apologies, Epsilon.
Regardless of the placing, you can take solace in the fact that some people who didn't know about Desert Run really enjoyed it, and perhaps will now check out the rest of the Immortal 3 album. :) |

Awww, Silver. So close. Definitely not bad but, in any other week, "Wild Wind" could've struck gold. A bit of bad timing that my nomination and all the others came up against the mother of all SNES tracks. I can't argue that "Diving" is undeserving - I mean, even I gave it points and I almost always dislike SNES material - so good job, Draconis.
And Epsilon, you shouldn't feel too poorly. This week was fantastic and I saved the Lemmings track for my own future enjoyment. If this week hadn't been so crammed full of awesome, that Lemmings track would've placed, I'm sure. Far worse has earned Bronze and Silver in the past. |

The bonus point system is pretty simple: a track gets 1 bonus point for each voter who votes for it and an additional .5 bonus points for each 3 awarded to it. In this case, since both Obsession and G-Comp were awarded five 1's, four 2's, and one 3, they both tie at 10.5 bonus points, so we have a tie for fourth place. Quote:
As long as people keep liking your nominations (as was certainly the case this week), just keep them coming. And I'm not just saying this because we're low on nominations. :( |
