What's the longest you've been asleep/awake?
What's the longest time you ever spent awake? What did you do all day and why did you stay awake? I think the longest I've been awake is 32 hours. I have a bad habit of staying up an hour or two later each night until I end up going to bed at 7AM on average. This of course interferes with everyday life, and since its easier for me to stay awake than force myself to sleep, I'll stay up all day. I don't like taking sleeping pills, they don't help me at all. I do this maybe two to three times a year, and only on days I have nothing to do. Last thing I need is to pass out at work.
The longest I've been asleep is 12 hours. I get about 6 hours sleep a night. Eventually that catches up to me and on days I have nothing to do, like weekends I sleep in extra late. |
Something like 28 hours. I was on a flight to Asia for the first time in years, and I didn't really sleep since I was eager to see my home country again. When I arrived, I think I only took a short nap before going out to explore the city.
The longest I've slept was 14 hours straight. I had jet lag when I came back to the U.S. from a flight, and was just exhausted in general. |
We had to get up around 7:30 the morning of my high school graduation for practice and the rest of the day was really busy, so I didn't get to nap before graduation or grad night, so I stayed up until 9:30 the next morning. It's only 26 hours, but that's a long time for me.
The longest I've slept was something like 16 hours. I hadn't been sleeping well for a few weeks and I finally crashed. |
38 hours driving from Oklahoma to California for E3. It was Hell on Earth.
|
I think once I stayed up for nearly 40 hours. It was a bet between me and my friends as to how long we could stay up. And sure enough we stayed up the whole night playing games and whatnot and spent most of the next day out and about trying to stay awake. And finally later that day we all unanimously agreed to call off the bet for the benefit of the group.
|
Not really sure... I've slept for a REALLY long time before, however, just to see how long I could make myself sleep. I was really comfortable since I was sleeping between two super soft, warm comforters on a really cold day. The sort of day where you feel like you could just stay warm and cozy in bed forever. I think I might have managed at least more than 18~20 hours on and off without getting out of bed. (Also had some delicious fresh water nearby, yum)
As far as staying awake... Countain 1~2 hour naps here and there I've stayed up for days on end without considerable sleep. As far as going as long as possible with no sleep at all I've never deliberately tried it, but I'm gonna guess I've gone without sleep for at least 24 solid hours from time to time after putting off work. |
The longest time that I have ever been asleep has got to be like almost 36 hours when I was 16 years old.
What had happened is that when I was 16 years old I worked my first summer job. It consisted of working in a minus 40 below refrigerated freezer to a minus 20 below factory freezer trawler at a fish plant in my local community. I had started work on a saturday morning at 9:00 am and finished work at 7:00 pm that evening. I had eventually went home and took a shower and grabbed something to eat when I got a phone call saying if I wanted to work another ten hour shift from 9:00 pm to 7:00 am sunday morning. So of course I wanted to. The job actually paid fairly well, 20.00/hour and after 12:00 in the night, it went up to $30.00/hour and for a 16 year old summer student that was incredibly good money because they couldn't get anybody to give up their weekend to work especially during the summer. I managed to survive that night at work, because at the end of it, I was getting pretty tired. I literally had been up for almost 24 hours straight, and worked 20 of those hours in freezing conditions. I had gotten home around 8:00 am and took a quick hot shower and went straight to bed. I had woken up and looked out the window and seen it was night out. I looked at my clock and it said 9:00 pm, so I assumed it was 9:00 pm sunday, but when I went down to the kitchen my parents said it was about time I woke up, because they thought I would never wake up. They told me it was actually monday night. I slept right through sunday and most of monday. I have no idea what might of caused me to sleep that long, it must of been a mixture of being overtired and being in that -40 freezer for almost 20 hours that literally caused my body to slowly shut down and I'm guessing the hot shower after I finished work never really helped things. In terms of the longest time I've been awake, it has got to be about 26 hours straight when I stayed with my sister when I was 17, the majority of those hours spent playing Super Marion RPG, I had it for a two day rental and desperately tried to finish it before I had to bring it back. |
Longest time without sleeping was something close to 72 hours. Well, it was 2 nights in a row and part of the 3rd day so less than that actually. I've stayed awake for around 30 hours countless times though, and I'm quite sure my recovering sleep time have approached 20 hours several times.
Sorry for the lack of exact numbers, but I wasnt exactly taking notes back when I had that lifestyle. ^_^; |
Funny how this topic turns up now...
A few days ago I was awake for 42 hours straight. I got 7 hours sleep after, and then the next day I was awake for 30+ hours, followed by 8 hours sleep, then 20+ hours awake, and finally ending with 6 hours sleep last afternoon. I'm still wide awake now and likely to be for some time now. Been eating a shit load of food - mostly fast food and junk - to keep me awake, and yep, I'm not dead or anywhere near close - I think. Just an experiment, but I should hopefully be back to normal next week. The things I'm willing to do, eh? |
longest awake is around 30 hours, I can't stand any longer than that, sleeping is one of the few things I always enjoy in life
|
A week and two days, during summer vacation a while back. Good god, after around the third day everything was nothing more than a blur. After that I wound up imitating a corpse for almost the same amount of time just to catch up on some sleep.
|
Mine was an all-nighter I pulled about a month ago at a friend's party. I must've been awake for 30 hours on about 6 hours worth of sleep. I realised just how tired I was when I tried to walk into town after getting changed and fell flat on my face, absolutely cartoon-esque.
I couldn't say I've ever slept for very long at all. I've stayed in bed for more than 12 hours I'm sure, but I tend to sleep somewhere between 4-8 hours and then wake up without fail. |
The longest I stayed awake was during final exams two years ago. I had the most ungodly schedule ever, with exams one day from 8-10pm, then the next day at 8-10am and 8-10 pm. I woke up at the normal time the first day, and studied between each exam. When I finally went to bed after the third, I had been awake for about 44 hours.
That following night, I fell asleep, and woke up a little over 18 hours later. And that's the longest I've ever slept in one shot. |
Probably 36 hours, give or take. I spent 36 hours awake when I was first introduced to Final Fantasy VI. How my SNES still works so well is beyond me.
I think the longest I've ever slept is 13 to 14 hours. I don't think its possible for me to sleep more than that. Nowadays I can hardly sleep 10, at most. |
Last christmas, my sisters woke me up at 7:00 AM, as per usual, and christmas celebrations ensued. I had to open the store on boxing day, which required me to go in at 2:00 AM. Basically right after christmas at my grandparents i headed to work, and got off at 11:00 AM. I stayed up for a while afterwards cause i was on too much coffee to sleep really. I think i stayed up for about 36 hours that day.
Last christmas holidays i worked 5 AM till 1 PM every day for around 18 days straight (not including christmas and christmas eve). I also tried to maintain a small social life during that time which sorta worked. On the last day i worked before i going back to school i came home at around 2:30 and started to change out of my uniform. I lay down on my bed just intending to rest my body for a moment, but woke up at 7:00 AM the next morning. roughly 17 hours under my belt i was so energetic and refreshed for the next few days. |
Usually when I pull an all-nighter (thankfully only about once a year at most) I don't get to sleep until late the next day, so I guess my usual rotation would be wake up at 7 AM, do work and junk and everything all day, stay up all night doing a project/lab, go to classes the next day, go home and do homework, and go to sleep around 1-3 AM depending on if it's a weekday the following morning. So I guess that puts me around 40-44 hours a couple of times.
|
I stayed awake for a sleepover with friends a few years ago for about 18 hours, finally crashing out at about 7AM (pulled an all-nighter).
As for being asleep, 12 hours is probably the longest. I'm sure I stayed sleeping for longer when I was younger, but I can't remember at this point in time. |
I used to pull all nighters in college all the time. A typical one would be wake up at 8am for class, be up all day and night, go to class the next day, do what I have to after class, and pass out. One time I tried to pull off a double all nighter, but started actually getting physically sick from exhaustion. Made it from like 7am on day 1 to 2am on day 3. So that's like 43 hours or so? Im pretty sure I slept till 1pm that day too. (Thank god it was a weekend.)
|
The longest I've been asleep was about 14 hours. I was on an overnight trip from the Philippines to LA to Vegas and I was awake for about 26 or 27 hours for the duration of the trip. I could NOT sleep on the plane for anything! I had to be at work the very next day which kinda sucked but oh well.
|
I didn't exactly keep tabs on it, but I've stayed up at least three days in a row when I was younger. I've always had a lot of trouble sleeping, so I stayed up for long periods of time. I've slept a day and a half, but it could have been longer. >.>;
|
Longest I have been awake is 38 hours on my trip to Europe. First time ever on a plane, and leaving the country for the first trip (With exception of US). I was so excited, I couldn't even sleep when everyone else on the plane did. It was in March of 2001 in Grade 11.
Longest I have slept is just over 14 hours after returning to school last Fall. My first year with the Park Board wore me out. Actually, I slept for almost 14 hours everyday for about a week. |
I remember during Spring Break about 2 years ago I stayed up for about 50 hours. I think it was the day after I fell asleep in which I spent 16 hours sleeping. The reason for it was because of Ragnarok Online (when I was addicted to it, lawls). Doesn't help it was a private server with my friends.
|
I'm sure every time I'm horribly ill, I sleep for days on end. Can't remember the last time but I would sleep for 30+ hours straight, until I wake up with nasty hair and crusty face.
During high school I had this really awful week where I didn't sleep for 2 days or so. Stayed up all night to work on projects, turned it in, went home and worked on another project. I think I nearly had a mental breakdown then, I would be working in the dark and hallucinate. |
Something like 40 hours. I woke up fairly early, went to work all day, hung out at home for a while, drove out to meet a girl around midnight, brought her back to my house until about 6 AM, drove her home, drove back to work to see what time I was supposed to work that day. I arrived in front of the schedule board at 6:44, and discovered that instead of working at 2 PM like I had thought, I was working at 7. So I rushed home, changed, brushed teeth, rushed back, worked for 9 hours, came home, and stayed up half the night again.
I drank a lot of caffeine that day. |
About 40 hr
That day I was on my all-night service at hospital, that day it's busy like hell; car crash accident, the patient shock, can't sleep, can't void, OR emergency -_-! it end at 6 am....anyway ..... I've to go back at ward at 7 am and have lectures and activities...blah blah blah...Then I go to sleep at 11 pm and have to wake up at 6 am in the next day. I miss my young hood life.T-T |
The last time, it was like about 42 hours. I was hanging out with my pals before graduating high school and we stayed up until about 1 a.m.
All went to sleep at that time but me. Not only I have insomnia, but for some reason, my body started to itch. I stayed awake the whole, struggling on not to scratch any parts of my body. The bad news is that the next day was the photo shoot day. That means I didn't have time for any nap, and by the time my itch disappeared completely, it was 7 in the morning. So the next day I was like exhausted completely, I ran over a bike (not the bike ran over me), injured my feet, and I also kicked a cabinet, breaking my own finger's nail. When I arrived home, it was 4 p.m., so I took a quick bath and go to sleep quickly, ignoring dinner. |
38 hours is the longest I've stayed awake. Whenever my friend stays over at my house we try to stay up 24 hours staright. I had started a new game of Final Fantasy VII. We took turns playing the game (ie I kill one boss, he gets the next, than I take over again). I remember that I took over right after the first disc, where you have to go through the ice cave with the two-headed Dragon boss. Before I knew it, my friend is dead to the world, and I guess I was adrenaline locked from lack of sleep and horribly addicted to the game, more addicted than I should have been, cause I personally don't think much of the game itself. Actually on second thought, this might be why I don't really like the game... I eventually couldn't stay up much later after a certain point in the game (can't remember what part now) and I think my friend was still asleep, so I believe my sister took over and eventually finished the game while I was asleep for like 10 hours striaght.
God times, good times. Now my friend's in Uni so I never see him anymore. Now the longest I've ever slept is something like 14 hours. It was probably a few months back. I work at PetCo and when we get our supplies on Mondays we stay until 12am. The previous day (Sunday) I had an early shift (like 10am early for me) and I didn't sleep very well that night since there was some movie out that me and my friends saw and then we usually just hang out like idiots afterwards. So maybe I got home at like 5am, but for me theres a time where you get a second wind, and you're so tired that you don't realize you're tired at. I had reached that point so I didn't actually sleep until like 8am. I slept for maybe 5 hours before the dreaded 5-12am shift, which is a lot of hard work as well (shelving 40 pound dogfood). As soon as I got off and went home I fell asleep, and didn't wake up for around 14 hours. I had the weirdest dreams too, but I don't remember tham now. I'm gonna die at PetCo one of these days >.> |
Actually, I just recently pulled my longest jaunt yet a couple days ago. I think I stayed awake for about three days. I just didn't feel like sleeping for some reason. Haha, I kind of wasted the time I was awake though. I basically played oodles of Kingdom Hearts and fiddled around with my new computer <3
|
156 hours give or take a few. It was purely a test of personal limits and zombification set in thoroughly by day 4 or so. Back in high school I used to sleep two hours a night and consume 5 liters of coke a day so I had a good bit of practice going into it. At this point my body would take none of that nonsense though. I've gone soft I suppose.
|
The longest consecutive period I've ever gone is 50 hours. But I did do 70 hours with only 2 hours of sleep once. That was a lot worse than the consecutive 50.
I just could not sleep for some reason, either time. The maternal side of my family has a kind of nasty history of mild insomnia, at least from what I can tell. I expect I inherited some of it. On average I get 5 hours of sleep per night, and that's excluding nights where I don't sleep at all. Reading though here though, I can tell I don't have it as bad as some, so I guess I can be thankful for that. |
hmm. i can't remember. but was around 48hours+ had to rush some project work.
there was once i had no sleep prior and still had to go for swimming lessons in school the next day. -the dangers of sporting without rest- but sleep! aha. think the best hmm. was round 13-16hours of quality sleep? that was around 6 years ago though.. haha. but like how some have mentioned, body can't take any of this nonsense anymore. keep falling asleep at my desk these days |
There are two times that are closed to being tied.
#1 was during the Fall of 2004. I was up the previous entire night to work on some projects/prepare for some examinations. I think I got up at 6:30ish that morning and went through until the next afternoon. At that time, I was exhausted, but thought "well, we just gotta finish our project...a few minor things and I'll be done". No such luck. Turns out we had a major problem with our program/my partners were more focused on their own business than the specs for the project, so they waited until the last minute to finish it off. That led me until about 4 the next morning in which I knew that I had to go home to rest or else risk my life and others while driving home. That was about 46 hours. 2.) The other time was a recent trip back to the States. This one is far harder for me to calculate now due to the time differences. My flight was not until 4 in the afternoon. However, due to the excitement for my visit, I woke up around 7 that morning. There were also several delays...actually, one that had a domino effect on the scheduling of the rest of my flights. There was also a trip home, with meeting up with peeps along the way. All in all, by the time I got home, I had been up for 41 hours. Amazingly, I said "Well, if I wait 8 more hours, I can go to bed without the worry of jet lag". I fell asleep 4 hours later, but only for about an hour and a half, and then stayed up another six or seven. Oh, and amazingly enough, I had a nice cold during this entire time (that gets bonus points, right). As for longest I have slept...ouch, I don;'t sleep all that much. I think the longest was twelve hours. |
For me it was actually last week. My unit was doing field exercises. At night they needed someone to stand guard and make sure nobody fucked with our armory. Just as my luck would have it the my platoon's Gunnery Sargeant voluntold my ass to stand duty for 3 nights in a row. 72 hours with no sleep. But I got it done. Nobody fucked with our shit.
|
Asleep: about 14 hours, after a perticularly nasty day of physical work.
Awake: about 40 hours, I was trying to get back into a "normal" sleep rythm (was basically living at night atm, waking up at 5 pm and the likes). Stayed up playing the Cube's RE remake. I recommend neither. |
probably about 48 hours for me when i had to bring my sister into the emergency room a few months ago in the middle of the night. she got admitted and i couldnt sleep for a couple of days after that. but she is fine now so i am thankful:)
|
hm....When I was 8 I watched a very scary movie and could not get to sleep. Probably 25-30 hours. These days, sometimes it's 19 hours.
|
Somewhere close to 40 hours.
It was a summer vacation some years ago, and as usual during summer vacation, I stayed up until about 3-4 every night and slept to 12-13 the next day. This made my internal clock go whack, and one night I went to bed at around 6am. I just couldn't sleep, and got up again after 3 hours and continued playing Final Fantasy 7 :( Went to sleep around midnight that night, and slept for maybe 10 hours. |
Mine was 29-30 hours. Nothing too big.
It was a 7am morning to the next day around 2-3pm. I had promised to help a friend with watching a kid's all-nighter, and had obilgations the next day in the morning to afternoon. It wasn't pretty, and I slept like a baby. In terms of sleeping, I don't recall my longest non-waking sleep, but I do know that when I had appendix surgery, I slept with probably no more than 10mins awake at a time for about 2 days. It was probably like 40hours. I just remember waking listening to Goo Goo Dolls, and then falling asleep, then wake listening to Goo Goo Dolls, and then falling asleeps, then.... Yeah you got it. |
I've been awake for 2 days straight. And, as of sleeping, probably more than 12 hours in a day. ;p
|
Longest I've been awake was only recently, this May in fact. A friend of mine and I got together after having not seen each other in almost a year, we met up on Friday night after he and I got off work and pretty much hung out at his place the entire weekend catching up on old times and playing a ridiculous amount of Xbox. I woke up that Friday around 6am to go to work and didn't go back to sleep until 7 or 8am on Sunday. Even then we only slept for about 3 hours before getting back up.
Longest I've slept would have been Thanksgiving 2001, I had a nasty cold that holiday and remember being awake and around for the family dinner and what not, afterwards I started feeling worse so I took some NyQuil. I fell asleep shortly there after and didn't wake up until Saturday afternoon, at least didn't wake up in any significant way, I was told I did wake up a few times for a drink or to use the bathroom but I don't remember it. |
32 hours I think, it was one of those moments in the summer holidays where I'd adapted a ridiculous sleeping pattern. So I decided to do the whole stay up all night and day then sleep at a normal time. Didn't work, if anything it fucked it up more.
|
72 hours is my record. It was followed by an hour sleep, then 16 more hours of uptime, so take that as you will. It was a weekend youth retreat, so we figured we'd stay awake the whole time. Smart kids eh?
There was about a month or so span last year, where I ran on a 48 hour day....if you could call it that. I would be up 40 to 45 hours, sleep for 6 to 8, up another 40 to 45 hours, etc etc, it was pretty mind numbing, but the scary part was that I was getting used to it. I used to frequently pull all nighters, even to this day it's no big thing for me to not go to sleep at all at night, and then show up and work a long day at work. In fact most of my all nighters have work in the morning, so lol. But yeah, the all nighters, usually end up being about 6am on one day, to about 1am the day after the next. So 18 + 24 + maybe another one or two......yeah at least 42 hours usually. Probably have a couple of those a month, if not a lot of them. I'm rather sleep deprived in case you haven't figured it out. |
The longest I've made it has been around 36 hours, since I crashed immediately after turning in an all-nighter paper.
|
At school we did a 24 hour marathon for a good cause. We watched television at night, played games...
So basically 26 hours awake. |
| All times are GMT -5. The time now is 04:43 AM. |
