New Kingdom Hearts Project(s)

HQ V-Jump scan!

-A new game screen.
-Features Roxas and Axel in the Org's conference (throne) room. Remember, one part of the game is suppose to focus on -Roxas' time in the Org.
-Someone in the conference room asks, "Is it the one with the keyblade?"
-Sora, dressed in KH1 outfit, is seen behind King Mickey, who is holding his Starseeker out, "I was here on that painful day."
-This is Mickey's part of the story of his journey into....(you know where).
-The new work of the KH game isn't one title.
-It's not just one console that uses the new project.
-It's not any of the past work remade, and they are all completely new works.

As for what Nomura's little hand-written autograph message says in the second picture...

Quote:

New KINGDOM HEARTS title was finally announced to everybody. However, this is just a few [things that are revealed]. What kind of Disney companions do we meet this time, and what kind of Disney worlds do we go to? I look forward to the continued report.

rpgcrazied Sep 19, 2007 05:42 PM

jesus, so you have to have ps3, NDS, PSP.. just to play the different KH games? I guess they are all different.

so i guess PS2 isnt getting anything? lame

SuperSonic Sep 19, 2007 06:50 PM

The rumor was that the next Kingdom Hearts would either be on PS3 or Wii. Why am I not surprised it's on the PS3? However the title Kingdom Hearts 0 looks really interesting, I'm guessing that's the game dealing with the secret movie from KH2:FM. As for Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories 2...assuming from the title it's probably going to be another card-based game, I was hoping they were done with those. The other thing that really surprises me is it took them 5 years to release three Kingdom Hearts games (KH1, KH:CoM, and KH2) and now they're announcing three all new ones at the same time (doesn't mean they're gonna be released all at the same time). In any case maybe these new games will clear up some mysteries. :D

Kairi Li Sep 19, 2007 06:51 PM

Well these are just rumoured titles, but yeah, they're going multiplatform 100%, we just don't know if those titles are accurate YET. Wait for TGS for comfirmation guys.

Shouldn't be such a shock, look at the FF7 compliation strategy, along with FF13.

Why would the PS2 get anymore? Square is focusing either on handhelds for prequel/sidestory purposes, or next gen to push the story forward. Only really low budget companies will still wanna make games on the PS2. Consoles may not depreciate as fast as PCs, but they do in years time. If you wanna newer fresher titles, you're gonna have to buy next gen consoles.

And there'e still plenty of RPGs on the PS2. There is no way you have played every single one of them, even just US releases alone. So play those while you wait, and save up.

- Bald Man: "I believed you would arrive..."
- Terra: "What have you done to his/her heart!"

- Mickey (with Sora): "On that day, I was here too."
- Mickey (with Jiminy Cricket): "A passage one cannot remember..."

As you know, some lines are completely different from the translations we had, but also know that Kanji can be interpreted in different ways as well.

Also note that Aqua's hair looks different. Check out my profile image and compare it to this art....

Info about the trailers from Famtisu's website! Thanks to Xaldin from Kh-vids.net!

Quote:

At the beginning of the video, waves of images pop up, with the text "KINGDOM HEARTS NEW CONSEPTS(Concept?) NEW TITLES" showing that the Kingdom Hearts New Project was finally announced.

The first thing that was shown, was the ending of Kingdom Hearts II, afterwards the text "The secret ending is solved, and the worlds still extend" Is shown, and then the words "Flow" is shown.

The video then officially begins with Jiminy Cricket looking at his journal, the words "Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories" pop-up. He then notices something he did not right in his journal "You need to return, to heal the wounds" Jiminy Cricket then rushes to report to King Mickey. Mickey who is startled by this only replies with "Only he is the one who can solve it." The scene soon changes to Sora standing in Destiny Islands, in Kingdom Hearts 1. However Sora only appears in the form of computer data that is being transmitted.

After the image, the game soon changes to a battle scene. Heartless are attacking, and the gameplay mechanic seems odd, as Sora appears to be moving pies of blocks making it a puzzle game in a sense. Soon the command "Debugging" comes up. When this command is clicked, Sora moves at high speed, and vanishes as well. The scene soon changes to Sora being in Traverse Town with Mickey (As seen in the latest scans) With Mickey saying "I was here on that day." and then "Let's speak truly"

Afterwards the text "Kingdom Hearts Coded" comes up, this is a game for the cellphone.
Next report:

Quote:

The trailer starts from the scene where re:COM ended, afterwards the words "The other side attached to Sora still sleeps" and "The mind comes back whenever they touch." The scene then moves to Twilight Town, where Roxas, and Axel are sitting on the edge, as seen in KH2FM+.

Soon the trailer switches to Roxas being invited to the Organization XIII, and introduced to them, which soon cuts out to another scene of Roxas joining the Organization for the first time. Soon the scene then switches to the King talking about Axel, and Saix with Roxas pulling out his keyblade, moving into gameplay.

The gameplay features Roxas fighting with other Organization Members in a multiplayer game. This one confirms the allowance of being able to play as Roxas, Axel, Saix and Xigbar.

The scene then switches to Xemnas talking towards other Organization members. Xemnas explains that a 14th member has joined the Organization, and the 14th member appears to be a female, wearing a black hood. Soon the title comes up as "Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days"

You can then hear Roxas in the background saying "I will disappear from this world in 151 days"

This game is for the Nintendo DS.
FINAL report!

Quote:

The Final Project to be shown in the compilations of KH Projects today.

It starts by showing scenes of the ending of "Kingdom Hearts 1" Soon the text "Deep Past" comes up, to be followed by "Shut-Eyes gives birth to the concealed fate"

The trailer starts off with the boy who looks like Roxas, Ven, talking to a young male with black hair, the area seeming to be like "Hollow Bastion". The boy soon calls the young male "Ven." The scene continuously changes before showing the Old man that is seen in the Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix+ Secrent Ending.

The old man's name is "Master Xehanort" and "Master Xehanort" calls the young boy "Terra". Soon Terra summons the keyblade into his hand.

Soon some worlds are shown, such as "Olympus Coliseum" and a new world, which resembles that of Sleeping Beauty is shown, confirming it's existence.

The scene then changes to Terra fighting against the mysterious dark male, who looks like he's in a bicycle suit, also from the secret ending. Terra manages to knock off the helmet, but his face isn't shown.

The scene soon moves to King Mickey summoning his Keyblade. Soon the scene begins to change rapidly, and Terra is at a beach, watching two boys playing before resting his sword into the grove. The two boys soon begin to become more visible, and it looks like Sora and Riku playing at the beach.

Terra soon says "Please don't depend on me, just erase me...friend"

Afterwards the text "Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep" comes up, this game is for the PSP

I gotta tell ya.

I enjoyed KH1. Sure, the Light/Dark/Heart shit was meaningless, but I kinda let it gloss over, since it was Disney after all.

KH2 was pretty to look at and it was fun to go through the new Disney worlds (Tron, Pirates, etc...), but it was extremely convoluted. Having all these new characters with X tacked in their names, not to mention all the messed up retcon (forced into the original story after the fact) about Ansem and Xemnas and WHATEVER. Adding the concept of "nobodies" really messed up the basic storyline, too, since they seemed to be exactly like the Heartless. It was just a bunch of weird science and flimsy fantasy.

These new story descriptions sound like the worst Engrish fan-fiction dream I can imagine. This has got to be the most embarrassingly badly written game series I can recall. Somehow I doubt any Disney execs have even looked back at this series past the first game, because if they did, they'd find some real faults with the amount of animu bullshit (and I like anime!) going on.

...and I'm still going to buy it. Dammit.

Kairi Li Sep 19, 2007 11:17 PM

I find all the new characters, especially the organization, to be fanscinating, though they were better developed in Chain of Memories than KH2. The members shown in KH2 didnt get the same amount of development and dialouge as the guys in COM did.

And I don't find the Nobodies concept to mess up the story line that much, since there's a difference to a nobody and a heartless if you pay attention. IN battle, Nobodies tend to be more powerful, so there is a difference in gameplay as well.

I felt the first game was cliche, while the 2nd game expands upon that and gave it a bit more complexity. Whether is original or not, well, its hard to come up with originality these days anyway... Then again, I always prefer character driven stories over plot ones. I guess I just love the characters that I can ignore some of the more convoluted stuff in the plot.

So yeah, getting the DS and PSP game.

Not to mention, we dont fully know the stories, the trailers to me just show a bunch of random scenes from the game. Right now, if you ask me or anyone to give a synopsis on those games based on the trailer info, I don't think anyone can. Its too little info to judge, other than one takes place as a Roxas side story, one takes place as a Mickey one, and the last one is probably a prequel.

Cetra Sep 20, 2007 12:09 AM

Looks like some portable hold-outs until they can get working on Kingdom Hearts III. I didn't really expect KH3 for the PS3 or whatever platform it ends up being on as most of the main KH staff is plenty busy with FFXIII Versus.

It seems the PSP game might be the story bridge for KH2 to KH3. But either way I don't really consider myself a big enough fan to get into these portable games. I'm not really sure if I'm a fan of these cross platform compilations Square-Enix seems to be fond of right now either.

Kairi Li Sep 20, 2007 05:00 AM

I'm don't like the idea either, but my handhelds need more games anyway, so why not? I'm more worried about the FF13 compliation at this point. At least KH and Nomura's team had some sort of consisten quality in its gameplay.(I heard Sekai on the DS is really good.)

Well, cept maybe GBA version of COM...

As long as the games DO come out good, I can tolerate the obvious franchising scheme.

Dark Nation Sep 20, 2007 06:17 AM

"Birth By Sleep", "358/2 Days", "coded".

God, those sound like bad fanfiction titles.

Inhert Sep 20, 2007 06:30 AM

Birth by sleep is the "code name" of the secret ending in KH" if you didn't know. Like Deep Dive was the name for the secret ending or KH!, so those are probably not the names of the games...

Kairi Li Sep 20, 2007 06:30 AM

Meh, if you can screw up grammar with Undiscovery, these titles are no surprise.

Square seriously needs to invest some English linguist or writers. At least help them fix their titles, text in trailers etc... Cause while I anticipate these games, the Engrish in everything is getting ridiculous.

Not to mention, what IS the point of telling us how many number of days Roxas has left? It better be a damn good plot element for such a lame title...

And Inhert, while part of me hopes thats the case, they fact they even BOTHERED designing the logo with those... names... is proof that these are probably the final titles.

Hey guys, you know the PDF Files that were released recently? Well KHU's Pazuzu managed to translate that PDF, and it gives off more details about the games so be sure to check it out! If you missed any previous information, be sure to catch up Here.

Also before I move on, I'm going to point something out, because this has annoyed me for the last time, KHInsider, has recently stole the translation I did for the 3 trailers without crediting. I know it's the translation I did, because despite them trying to reword some parts, it has some of the few mistakes I made, and most of it is almost an exact copy of what I translated. It's always best to give credit when it's due.

Ok, NOW we can start complaining about the plot...

I think the cell phone game one so far, looks like a goddamn random crap made just for the SAKE of a cell phone game. The other two I am interested in, since I do wanna see more of the times Axel and Roxas being together as friends, and the secret ending has already intrigue me with what happeneded to the keybladers of the past.

Why save for a PS3? The new titles are for DS, PSP, and a japanese supercomputer Mobile Phone, and that one will never come stateside anyway.

Kairi Li Sep 21, 2007 12:34 AM

Dude, thats NOT the trailer! Thats' the secret ending from Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix +!

Argh, damn Joystiq should never linked the video, people don't read when they see a giant embedded video!

Square never releases their trailers publicly on the net untill god knows when, they suck at their marketing, so don't expect us to see actual footage from the PSP title, or any title, untill monthes later.

There's a reason why various sites are posting DESCRIPTIONS instead of trailer videos you know.

Speaking more of Square's dickery, Famitsu has edited their trailer summaries, taking out most of the juicy stuff like Terra seeing Sora and Riku playing on the beach.

Three guessses as to who made them change it.

Hachifusa Sep 21, 2007 02:29 AM

Can anyone read the kana? SOMEHOW, it sounds even MORE stupid when I read the kana underneath the title:

Three five eight days over two.

That's how the Japanese kids are calling it, anyway.

Kairi Li Sep 22, 2007 02:25 AM

Gamespot's version of the trailer summaries

Quote:

The biggest surprise at this year's Square Enix booth was the announcement of a new Kingdom Hearts project. While it may be true that Kingdom Hearts II left some questions unanswered, Square Enix has decided to expand on the world of Kingdom Hearts with not just one or two titles, but a trio of games for the DS, the PSP, and mobile phones. What's more, all three of the titles are different games with their own settings and timelines. Tetuya Nomura is working as the director for all three titles, together with Shinji Hashimoto, who will serve as executive producer.

The first title, Kingdom Hearts Coded, is the mobile game release. The game is being co-directed by Hajime Tabata and produced by Kousei Itou. No release date or carrier has been announced yet. Kingdom Hearts Coded's CG trailer started off with the words "Mysteries get solved, making the world wider" on a blank screen. The screen changed to a scene where Jiminy Cricket is flipping through the journal that he's written during his adventures with Sora. He stops at one page, which reads, "We must return to free them from their torment." Puzzled and unable to recall what that page was supposed to mean, he runs to consult the King (Mickey Mouse), who decides to search for answers by digitizing Jiminy's journal.

From what we can gather, the player apparently takes the role of a Sora that was born inside the digitized world of Jiminy's journal. We were shown a couple of clips of in-game footage, and although the graphics were mobile-phone quality, it still runs as a 3D action game and has the Kingdom Hearts atmosphere.

The second title, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, is the DS release. Unlike previous installments in Kingdom Hearts, the game focuses on the series' antagonists known as the Organization XIII, and Roxas, who was "the other main character" in Kingdom Hearts II.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days' trailer starts off from the last scene in Chain of Memories (PS2 version), and the words "The time during the opposite side, when Sora goes to sleep" appears on the screen. The scene changes to the station and clock tower in Kingdom Hearts II, with Roxas and Axel looking over the city at the sunset. In another scene, Roxas is seen sitting in a white room together with the rest of Organization XIII, and a new 14th member is introduced into the organization. Although the character's face was hidden by Organization XIII's traditional hooded jacket that she wore, it was apparently a female character, judging from her lips.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days is a multiplayer action game where you can fight as an Organization XIII member and attempt to complete missions cooperatively with friends. During the trailer, we saw up to four characters fighting together on the same screen against a massive boss character in a city setting. The game will also feature a single-player mode, of course. The gameplay looked similar to the combat you're familiar with from past KH games, though the frame rate was running a little low in the trailer footage. Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days is co-directed by Tomohiro Hasegawa and produced by Patrick Chen. The game is being developed by h.a.n.d Inc.

Last but definitely not least of the three Kingdom Hearts games, Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep is a new title for the PSP. From checking out the trailers, it felt the most like a true Kingdom Hearts sequel of the three games (except that it's actually a prequel). Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep's trailer started off with the words "The distant past." And as it turns out, the game takes place before Sora's era, back in the days when there were multiple "keyblade masters" around the world. We're introduced to two characters whom we assume are the protagonists; a blond boy who looks strikingly similar to Roxas, and an older, taller, black-haired guy who looks a bit like Final Fantasy VII's Zack in baggy pants.

Audiences who have finished playing through Kingdom Hearts II were in for a surprise. As it turns out, the bonus secret movie from the game was apparently an event that took place in the past. During Birth by Sleep's trailer, we saw the same landscape and bald man with a gray goatee and yellow eyes that were featured in the KHII movie. It seems certain that he plays a key role in the game, as the trailer took time to show him trying to influence the blond-haired boy in some unknown way, and also facing off in combat against the black-haired man who's trying to stop him. In another scene, he was seen shouting, "Use your powers to break the darkness and fix my wrongdoings!" At the end of the trailer, a figure who looked like Mickey mouse appeared to confront the bad guy with a weapon that looked like a cross between a sword and a magic wand.

Inhert Sep 22, 2007 09:50 AM

the prequel on psp is the only game that interest me, but I'm getting really worried about the future of this series >.< they should have stop with KH2 >.>

rpgcrazied Sep 22, 2007 10:04 AM

I guess im going to have to get a PSP.. i really dont want one.. but with this game and crisis core.. I think its worth the purchase.

Helloween Sep 24, 2007 10:08 AM

Birth by Sleep is probably the game that has pushed me over the edge on buying a PSP. There are progressively more and more games that are interesting me, and cause i'm such a Kingdom Hearts fan, this was a big one.

Also, regarding the DS title's title, i think it's supposed to be said "358 Halved Days" or "358 Half Days"

Kuhazan Sep 25, 2007 01:30 AM

I think this will effectively end the series for me... reason being it is apparent that they'll throw a KH game on whatever platform they feel like... if its not going to stick to one platform where I can play the entire series on ONE line of platforms or it just crossed over either Nintendo exclusive or stayed with Sony... then why bother? You'll never see all angles of the story (where things could be written in to fill in holes)

rpgcrazied Sep 25, 2007 08:51 AM

I totally agree, and Im almost certain that KH3 will be on the PS3. So an order to see the whole story youll need a PS2/gba/ds/psp/ps3. Its expensive too, I wish it all couldve stayed on the ps2 and maybe gba.

Hachifusa Sep 25, 2007 11:54 AM

Well, to be fair, you'd only REALLY Need a DS, PSP, and PS3, as the PS2 and the GBA games can be played on the PS3 and the DS, respectively.

Kuhazan Sep 26, 2007 03:15 AM

Thats being fair for now... but since they're obviously willing to go Nintendo for somethings who's to say a part won't eventually wind up on Wii? Then you'd need a DS, PSP, PS3, and a Wii to play everything...

Wow, really pulling the franchise in all directions.

So how do poor people get all the story then, other than the wonders of the internet?

I REALLY hope that Squenix doesn't pull any final mix crap and give JP exclusive content. That pisses me off.

Kairi Li Sep 26, 2007 10:55 AM

They will continue to do so, cause, like Sony, they don't know jackshit about good business plans. Unless it concerns their OWN people, but even then they dunno how to deal with marketing. Pulling all the franchises on multiplatform is a good business plan for THEIR profits, not for customer's wallets I'm afraid.

Thank god I got just about every console and handheld I need except the PS3.

I've given up on getting FM+ or anything remotly non-dickery from Square a long time ago. Crisis Core doens't even have a NA release date at all, the new Parasite Eve is gonna be on cell phone, and I bet it would be ages before we even see a trailer for any of these new KH games online. Unless a fan records it via camera at Akihabara game stores.

Best not to get your hopes up at all, cause that's just asking for disappointment.

I'm looking foward for the DS game more than any of the others. The cellphone doesn't appeal to me at all, and I'm not buying a PSP just to play that game that doesn't interest me as much as the DS. I have grown attached to Organization XIII, and I will enjoy seeing the characters being expended a bit more, especially since many seem to have played such small parts, particularly the ones only introduced in KH2.

I do hope the gameplay doesn't reolve around touching the screen at all, unless it's for things such as menu's, etc.

As for a convorsation stated earlier, I never played CoM, though I have seen many of the cutscenes on it, but I will say I have grown to hate Sora in KH2. IN KH1, he wasn't bad at all and seemed like a fairly decent main protagonist. Yet, he simply annoys me in KH2. I'm unsure how I feel about his CoM persona. KH1 was a fun game, and I will admit KH2 did throw a lot at people since every other minute there's a new cutscene (it gets extremely annoying after playing the game 2 or 3 times, though for many even the first run got annoying with the constant cutscenes), and basically the gameplay for KH1 was a lot simpler to control, while KH2, even though I feel I handle everything almost perfectly, was much more complex (many of the attacks/skills don't even make sense.) The difficulty of KH1 was also fairly difficult since it was much harder to dodge things, and Curaga seems way too significant in KH2, though that could also be because of that leaf bracer which was in KH1 FM. Another thing I will say is I strongly hate what they have done to Sephiroth. He's only a mediocre challenge around level 4X or 5X, but he's a joke otherwise. The whole storyline bit was also extremely dumb, and hearing people say his name so often killed whatever specialty the mentioning of his name had. I don't know how to explain it, but I hate hearing his name in this game, I can't think of a better term than using other than it sounds dumb. Also fighting him in a clear bright sunny day wasn't good imagery. In the first KH, you fight him at night, and in Advant Children, the version in which many of the KH2 FF character designs were based on, was fought in the day, though he (I know this might be a wrong term, but) summoned a slew of rainclouds, thus making it appear much darker, which was still just as acceptable for the imagery. Though fighting him in the day with his pathetic not-sounding-dark-evil-or-maniacal-at-all was a turn off. Let alone after the battle you can talk to him normally with the triangle button, and watching him repeat his innocent talking motion over and over basically killed whatever decently "cool look" he could have ever held in this game. I will admit, I was very dissapointed in KH2 the first time I beat it, though I later enjoyed it more when I realized how much I enjoyed the concept of Organization XIII. They're probably the best thing to happen to the game (KH2), which is probably why I'm mainly interested in the DS game.

I know this isn't about KH2, but I wanted to say that.

Helloween Sep 28, 2007 12:54 AM

The more i think about it, the more i'm pissed off that Birth by Sleep will be PSP. I'm interested in both 358 and BbS (living in Canada, i'm still having trouble grasping the concept of a cell phone game let alone it being worth playing), but i'd really rather not have to shell out 200 dollars, plus the price of the game, and a few others to justify my buying a PSP for it. There are other games i really want on a PSP, but not enough to justify my buying one yet.

This multiplatformism is really a kick in the teeth, and yet, i can't help but be excited for 2 of the 3 games announced.

Kairi Li Sep 28, 2007 03:56 AM

I do have a PSP so its not a problem for me, but goddamit, why can't they bring it to the PS2 at least? Birth should be played on a big goddamn TV screen with awesome surround sound and visuals, just so we can feel the epicness the game is probably gonna become.

Putting it on the PSP kinda diminishes the epicness, even if you go TV output...

Still gonna get the DS and PSP game though.

Masashin Sep 28, 2007 03:11 PM

Ugh, i hate Square-Enix. WHY Couldn't they put more org.XIII the first time! There is no way i'm buying those extra games, i'll watch the cutscenes on youtube..it's free thankyou!

I simply wish they stayed on the PS2. These handheld games do not and cannot hold the same experience it could on a Playstaion.

Seriously? This is whay you bumped a 7 month-old thread for? *le sigh*

Using the almighty power of the Internet, one could find out that Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep (the PSP one) still doesn't have anything like a confirmed release date. Given it's using the Crisis Core engine it shouldn't be too long, but that will be the Japanese release.

Muzza Apr 23, 2008 02:33 AM

Sacred X Apr 23, 2008 06:44 PM

Has there even been any official confirmation that these will be released outside of Japan? Aside from Coded, it would suck if they're Japan exclusive.

358/2 Days is the main game I'm looking foward to.

Muzza Apr 23, 2008 07:27 PM

A Kingdom Hearts game...Japan exclusive?! Dude, I'm 100% sure that they will bring any and all games with the words "Kingdom Hearts" attached to it over here quick smart (Hell, they'd probably even allow a KH hentai game over here. And it'd probably sell like hotcakes (sweet Kairi hotcakes, that is)). Square-Enix knows what the people want...=/

Oh by the way guys, Kingdom Hearts: Gettin' Down and Dirty with Disney was just announced.

1) Don't fret yet, the new DS and PSP Kingdom Hearts games don't even have JP release dates yet. You'll get them, just not soon.

2) The Kingdom Hearts Final Mix games did not and will not come out in America.

Isn't that only because the Final Mix games had all the extra stuff the American versions had over the JP versions? Or were there a few more features added?

dagget Apr 23, 2008 07:37 PM

I thought all games were considered "Japan exclusive" until a US date is (eventually) confirmed anyway? I mean, sure, common sense will tell us that the titles are coming out over here, but nothing is confirmed until the companies themselves confirm it.

I mean that's the way I see it anyway. =\

That aside, I'm looking forward to the PSP Kingdom Hearts game. I've enjoyed Crisis Core for what it was and starting to really get into gaming on PSP.

No, the Final Mix games had exclusive content for the JP market. The first one included an extra boss fight (surprisingly, you'd end up fighting the guy in KH2) and a secret video for KH2 (to this day, one of the best trailers I've seen) if you completed some requirements.

KH2 Final Mix Plus included battles with other members of Organization XIII that weren't originally in the game, plus rematches with all 13 members in an extra level in which even if you were level 99, you'd still get your ass kicked. Also, there was another special boss fight and the boss is involved in the psp game coming out. What was so "Plus" about the game? It also had Kingdom Hearts Re: CoM, a complete remake of the GBA game with voice acting and cutscenes, but only in the Japanese language. To this day, I still have no idea why they didn't release it overseas.

Also, both Final Mix games had extra enemies and extra weapons and items to collect.

As far as the other two future games go (not counting the cell phone games), I'll end up playing them since I'm hooked on the story but as far as release dates go we probably won't hear that until E3 or TGS.

In the mist of various E3 news, I bring forth the news that Re:Chain of Memories, the PS2 Remake of CoM on the GBA, may be coming to the US localised. No news on whether Final Mix + comes out in the US.

Kingdom Hearts Ultimania - KH 2 3 Birth By Sleep & 358/2 Days - E3 2008

Quote:

According to the website WithTheWill, RE:Chain of Memories, the PS2 remake of Chain of Memories, has been receiving potential English voice actors for the five Organization members of CoM:

"I've confirmed this with MULTIPLE people.

I don't know if it's the full Final Mix+, or just Re:COM...

But we are getting Re:Chains Of Memories in the USA.

I've even been told the character artwork they are showing is the generic 'CGI Pose' of the Organization members that are up at damn near EVERY Kingdom Hearts fansite.

Square (or Disney, not sure), have been auditioning TONS of people for the last few weeks for voices of Organization XIII members (Vexen, Lexaeus, Zexion, Marluxia, and Larxene) saying the game is 'Chains of Memories'.

The casting people/paperwork are/is specifically calling it 'Kingdom Hearts Chains of Memories' and are SPECIFICALLY casting the 5 Organization members that I named in the article, all of whom were in CoM and don't have cast English voice actors (outside of those 5 I don't know if anyone else is being cast in any fashion, although I THINK those were the only 5 characters who are in CoM who don't already have English actors from KH/KH2).

So while it is possible they are being cast for 358/2 Days, the 'name' being told to people in the auditions is specifically CoM, I've reconfirmed that specific fact with quite a few people who auditioned and it has been consistent between them all."

Two Neogaf Members, Aeana and Duckroll, both being respected as inside informants, have confirmed this and claim it to be true. We are currently not sure if this includes Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix though.

However, here at KHU, we strongly recommend that you take this news with a grain of salt, regardless of the fact that KHInsider, the original reporter of this news, currently believes it. Hope for the best as we keep you posted.

The Plane Is A Tiger Sep 12, 2008 12:47 PM

I might pick it up in the bargain bin eventually, but $30 for an old PS2 game that was just a remake of an even older GBA game? Oh Square. Wasn't this included free with KH2: Final Mix in Japan?

Unless the PS2 version is a major update in all respects and not just graphics, CoM had a very dull and repetitive design.

Muzza Sep 12, 2008 09:00 PM

Ha, I knew they'd bring it over eventually. =.=" Doubt I'll be checking it out, I hated Chain of Memories on the GBA, and KHII was lol. So...KH PS2-ness + Chain of Memories gampleay? :gonk:

Kairi Li Sep 12, 2008 10:21 PM

At the very least, the PS2 remake fixes various bugs I had, like the collision detection. Since its now 3D, you can defintly see if you are hitting the enemies and theres a lock on system like KH1. The card system is still pretty much the same as the original.

And yes, it does suck that in the end, the JP people got a better deal, having 2 games for the price of one in Final Mix +, but I think releasing this in the US is at least a step up then their usual xenophobia. I really enjoy the story and it fills out alot of details that people wouldn't understand in KH2 if they hadn't played COM, and most haven't, cause the GBA version pretty much sucked in its 2D design combat. I always thought the Org 13 scenes were alot better in COM than KH2. In CoM, you get to know each member's quirks and personalities. In KH2, we knew zilch about them, and then they get killed off. Plus, seeing Riku's side of the story was also nifty. I think this release is a good way for people who didn't play the original to experience the story in an improved state, with real cutscenes and voice acting.

Plus, I can't wait to hear how bitchy Larxene sounds.

Beyond the graphics and what it entails (a easier time killing Large Bodies and Vexen), the only improvements are the button layout and making Riku's gameplay even easier. It's still the same boring card system with the same meaningless trudging through randomly generated Disney worlds.

Regular Kingdom Hearts gameplay is pretty uninspiring to begin with, but Chain of Memories and its remake take it to another level.

Sacred X Sep 16, 2008 08:43 PM

Argh, no Final Mix? It's very good news to hear that they're releasing Re:CoM in the US. Kingdom Hearts is one of very few games where I can praise the English Voice actors. The English VA's in KH2 were amazing, so I'm hoping the same for this. But argh, Final Mix+ would've lasted me so long. I'm hoping they include it, but just like, haven't said it yet. Or else I might be tempted to buy the Japanese one anyway and be stuck with two Re:CoM's. Darn to the price cost, though.

Thanks for the update, Kairi.

Zergrinch Sep 16, 2008 09:28 PM

Neutral about the CoM port. I played it on the GBA, and was flummoxed at how the difficulty racheted up when you fight Riku the third time :(

Kingdom Hearts mainstays David Gallagher and Haley Joel Osment return for the remake, with a new batch of mini-games being whipped up for the console re-release.

Muzza Sep 19, 2008 07:00 PM

Probably not gonna buy it, but...budget price? In Australia, isn't that like $95 as opposed to the normal $100. Profits will soar!

I've played the Japanese version. I know all too well that it's a terrible game.

And, yet, I'm still going to buy it. Guilty pleasures are painful.

Sacred X Sep 22, 2008 12:54 PM

Aren't you supposed to obtain extra cards or something by completing certain events in KH2FM? I hope they somehow include those, even though it's not likely.

Interrobang Sep 23, 2008 12:33 AM

Yes. You obtain the Attack Cards for the rest of Organization XIII in treasure chests after you beat II Final Mix.

How you're supposed to do that in the American version, I dunno, but it's probably related to the "four brand new experiences".

Kingdom hearts games are great!!!!!!!!
though i wish everytime these great games came out they wouldnt come out on different gaming systems.....

Sacred X Dec 9, 2008 07:07 PM

Surprized no one bumped the thread about Re:CoM. Anyone end up getting it? I got mine and the cards inside despite not preordering. I already beat both sides of the story on Standard, and I'm replaying through Proud making a save file before each Organization battle, including Riku IV.

Interrobang Dec 10, 2008 01:47 AM

Holy fuckballs. Re:Chain of Memories is the most boring game ever.

EVER

Kairi Li Dec 10, 2008 01:55 AM

I got it, but I never liked the card system to begin with, I got it with the sole intention to watch the cutscenes that will be unlocked by my husband. :P

I gave up the GBA version 2 hours later back when it came out, and just read the script off gamefaqs.

Still, it is an improvement over the GBA title since you can now actually lock on the enemies.

Zergrinch Dec 10, 2008 02:15 AM

Haha yes, CoM was very tricky. You are expected to pay attention to your cards, your enemy's cards, card values, any sleights they're planning, any sleights you can do planning, AND to run around and dodge the enemy at the same time.

I got my ass handed to me by Hades, after I overused sleights. After learning from that, the only other time I was beaten down was courtesy of Riku Replica, third battle.

I'm quite bummed that the PSP game is going to have cards as well :x

wvlfpvp Dec 10, 2008 10:22 AM

I didn't have any huge problems with the original CoM, but I can't beat the game again for some reason. Always had an easier time with Riku's closed deck system, anyway.

Zergrinch Dec 10, 2008 10:31 AM

Oh? Even when you're forced to fight the Replica with a deck where the [0] cards are spaced out? :3:

wvlfpvp Dec 10, 2008 10:33 AM

Yep. I mean, I was playing the game on my GBA Player, so I had a bigger screen with which to watch my cards. Made shuffling through the deck easier.

Are we talking about Birth By Sleep or is there a Chain of Memories coming out on PSP?

wvlfpvp Dec 10, 2008 12:19 PM

But it's not. Everything that I've read says that it's SORTA like the card system, but without the cards.

Sacred X Dec 10, 2008 02:24 PM

Strange, I never minded either version of Chain of Memories. Of course I do enjoy KH2's battle system more, this game was pretty much anti-button mash unless you have an extremely good deck. Also it required some strategy, which some people just aren't used to. I just wish so many people weren't used to button mashing so much, as the only three bosses that are known for giving people trouble in KH2, Demyx, Xaldin and Xigbar, are the only anti-button mashers out there. And Xaldin is possibly one of the easiest Organization battles aside from Xemnas' first form, just people were too dumb to realize you can't just run into him.

The above statement excludes FM+/Critical Mode.

Oddly enough, I never lost to Riku IV once, though lost to Riku II on Standard and Riku I on proud. It seems, compared to the GBA, that the stun when an enemy gets hit lasts a lot longer, meaning they can't break your sleights. I've pretty much spammed Sonic Blade for most bosses and killed them using that tactic. I'm thinking of, after I get a save file for each Organization battle, to defeat them using no sleights. I'm not realy much of a fan of No HP+ since it just requires more and more sleight spamming, making random battles harder than boss battles. Although it can teach people to dodge some sleights.

My final data for Sora:
HP: 260
CP: 900 (Standard) / 925/950 (Proud)

Also, I never heard that about BBS. While I don't mind the card system in CoM, I really like the freedom other KH games have, just as long as they can make the bosses challenging.

EDIT: *200th post*

The Re:Riplai DVD is out, meaing good quality trailers and gameplay videos for the DS and PSP games. Gameplay on both so far is solid and smooth. Quite impressed that they managed to have the KH2 battle system work on a DS.

Birth by Sleep is from the older Jump Festa 2008, while the DS one is the recent trailer from this year's TGS. Meaning we get to see Xion from the DS game, but no Aqua from the PSP game. Lame....

Watch them all here.

Wayne Allwine the voice actor for Mickey in the Kingdom Hearts series and various other Disney films/shows has passed away on May 18th at the age of 62, due to complications for Diabetes.

May he rest in peace.

Whether or not he has recorded for the DS game is debatable, but I doubt he has done any voice work for Birth By Sleep.

The man has done great work for years as Mickey, and it is a sad day to see a veteran voice actor that brought so much joy to me as a child gone.

Shonos May 24, 2009 01:51 PM

All these spin off games sequels/prequels, whatever you want to call them, confuses the fuck out of me. I can't understand this story anymore, it seems to be getting more and more convoluted.

Is there some place that explains how these games link to the original two?

Zergrinch May 24, 2009 06:46 PM

The DS game is a "Mid-quel", happens between the first two main games, just like Chain of Memories. I don't know if it happens simultaneous to, or before/after CoM.

The PSP game is a prequel.

wvlfpvp May 24, 2009 06:54 PM

And, of course, the one on the system I don't own (Birth By Sleep) is the one that I'm most interested in. But hey. More Shimomura music is always a good thing, and then I can guess at what's going on at the end of KH3 because of musical themes (I completely misread what the usage of Dear Friends in the the final boss music meant last time).

The PSP game is a prequel.

Allow me to add more to that.

The DS title, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, takes place during the year that Sora and co. were asleep in that white pod, meaning it takes place right after Chain of Memories, and before KH2's prologue. It was during that time that Roxas was recruited into Org XIII and started doing missions for them, and the story is about what transpired during his time in the group and what made him decide to leave.

Birth By Sleep, the PSP title, takes place about 10 years prior to KH1, and its about the old Keyblade masters. Terra, the brunette man who seems to know the original Master Xehanort. Aqua, the blue hair girl, and Ven, who resembles Roxas. Mickey will also appear, though his outfit will be more monochromatic (to show it takes place years ago) and he is still in training with Yensid.

The story revolves around three Keyblade apprentices in search of a missing Keyblade master, Master Xehanort, and his apprentice. Maleficent is believed to be the main antagonist; she causes a great disaster which results in Master Xehanort and his apprentice's disappearance.

Hopefully this means KH3 will be a proper sequel. But we won't hear a thing about that game till FF Versus 13 is done.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days
Platform: Nintendo DS
Genre: Action RPG
Players: 1 (2-4 via Wireless DS Multi-card Play)
ERSB: RP
Release Date: 09/29/09
MSRP: $34.99

KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days | SQUARE ENIX

From the spoilers I've seen, the story gets interesting in the end, and it also makes good use of the dual screen for certain parts of the game, where gameplay and story collide.

This is also the first time I am not gonna play the import of a KH game, since the release date isn't too far off. From the E3 trailer, the localisation is as solid as it was in the previous games, most of the VAs are back.

The Plane Is A Tiger Aug 27, 2009 07:31 PM

Is Birth by Sleep the PSP or PS3 game? I haven't really been keeping track of all these planned Kingdom Hearts titles, and they all sound so absurd that it's tough to keep them straight.

If it's PSP then I may give this a shot. I'm a sucker for multiple scenario stuff like this, and it apparently takes place before all of that Sora/Roxas nonsense that KH2 revolved around. Hopefully they'll use a lot of new worlds this time instead of just recycling half or more like they did in KH2.

Hindman Aug 27, 2009 07:34 PM

PSP, my friend.

KH Birth By Sleep for PSP Japanese release date is January 9 and priced at ¥6,090 (US$67).

Attached this piece of news is the TGS 09 trailer, which is so far the best trailer I've seen so far of this game. It shows alot of new gameplay elements, characters, story, and new glorious orchestrated music by Yoko in the first half.

Also been having fun with 358/2 on the DS. The story is surprisingly well presented and the dialogue between characters is engaging to me, which was not I was expecting for a DS gaiden game despite having read the spoilers when it came out in Japan. Gameplay is pretty much KH2 with a altered leveling and ability system that can be kinda annoying. (Damn panels...)

SuperSonic Oct 22, 2009 12:18 PM

I wasn't too fond of that Fate of the Unknown remix I heard at first, but it's starting to grow on me. That trailer has gotten me really interested in the game, especially at 3:50 - 4:02. One thing that has me scratching my head is what is up with that board game in the trailer?

358/2 is also pretty good. It's the DS's Crisis Core. I'm still trying to get through it, because I picked Proud Mode first. If there's one thing I've noticed with the Kingdom Hearts games, it's that if there's a secret trailer or ending then you'll have an easier time fulfilling the requirements on the hardest difficulty.

The board game looking thing in the trailer is the new character leveling growth system.

Unfortunately, KH 358/2 doesn't have a awesome secret ending or any notable easier-to-gain-bonus by beating Proud mode, so I picked the easiest mode to get through the story faster, since it means I don't have to do the side missions that will let me gain more equipment, since I probably won't need them for easy mode.

This sums up why Kingdom Hearts is utter shit these days better than I could:

Quote:

These days, it's hard to shake the feeling that Kingdom Hearts games aren't made for anyone but Kingdom Hearts fans alone. ... Instead of treating the sequel like the first game -- a fun romp through Disney worlds -- Square thought that the Kingdom Hearts mythology (kept on the back burner throughout KH1) needed to take center stage. So, instead of throwing you into a colorful fun world full of Disney characters, Kingdom Hearts II instead makes you initially suffer for a few hours with annoying teenagers as they muddle through middle school-level discussions of existentialism. ... With all of the material available in the Disney universe, Kingdom Hearts II inexplicably forces you to trudge through nearly a half-dozen level themes you've already seen in the previous game. This repetition, combined with endless indeciperable cutscenes full of nonsense and neologisms, really put me off the franchise for good back in 2006. ... Warren Spector may be a bit off about Mickey Mouse's universal appeal, but his Epic Mickey project is at least putting the Disney characters front-and-center where they belong. But as Kingdom Hearts marches on, the series is getting further and further away from this simple idea. I managed to luck into a copy of the recent DS installment of the franchise, and after two hours, I've yet to see a single Disney characters. Instead, I've been treated to a collection of impeccably groomed, angsty metrosexuals who all seem to be in a competition for cattiest human being alive
Source = 1UP's RPG Blog : The Shrinking Appeal of Kingdom Hearts

Ever since Kingdom Hearts II, the series has been nothing but an increasing exercise in how much angst can we cram into vapid characters. They've been terrible time and time again, and 358/2 was so bad I think you have to be half-retarded to finish it.

SuperSonic Nov 27, 2009 12:55 AM

I have to agree that 358/2 is the weakest of the series. While I wasn't fond of the card system for Chain of Memories, at least when you go to a world in that game you're done with it afterward. I'm not crazy about the whole mission-style of the game where you keep going to the same place several times...which was one of the things I wasn't fond of in Crisis Core, even though the side-missions in that game were optional but it was the only way you could get good items and level up if you were having trouble against a boss. I can't tell you how much I disliked going back to Agrabah and Wonderland multiple times. It was nice to see those worlds at first, but once you start re-visiting them they lose their charm.

358/2 had good parts off and on, but if you stick with it long enough, about 3/4ths of the game is when it starts to really get good and doesn't stop until you beat the game. The last boss music is an awesome remix.

If only 1/4 of the game is any good, it's a terrible fucking game. If the best thing you can say about it is "hey, the end boss music is a great fan service remix" you prove my point about why the whole series is nothing but terrible fucking games.

SuperSonic Nov 27, 2009 02:24 AM

As with any KH game after the first one, most of the game's music comes from its predecessors, just redone or remixed. There isn't that much new music, but I'm alright with that. It's pretty much hit or miss with me.

The problem with KH as a series was that when it began it bordered on fan fiction. The thing that utterly killed it and made it terrible is that instead of trying to avoid it, they embraced it. They essentially created self-insertion star trek/star wars crossover with man-pregnancy slash wankfest fan fiction. And a bunch of people said it was cool that they basically made a bunch of games that had nothing but fan service in them.

SuperSonic Nov 27, 2009 02:48 AM

"A journey where you never know who you will run into next." What did you expect when the main character interacts with a bunch of Disney worlds and some Final Fantasy characters scattered amongst those worlds?

Surprisingly, the combination worked.

No. Hard Pass. Nov 27, 2009 09:05 AM

Yes, for one game. Which was my point. And then it wasn't Disney with FF anymore. It was just the Kingdom Hearts mythos. Which is, you know, fucking Twilight levels of suck.

SuperSonic Nov 27, 2009 01:08 PM

The story has always centered around Sora, Donald, and Goofy going around and searching what they're looking for.

I feel fighting the Organization made for some of the best boss battles in the series. I realize the sequels centered around Sora and company more, but you're still going around interacting with various Disney worlds. They're not going to break away from that.

Except they clearly have. The actual Kingdom Hearts mythos has become central, and unfortunately the Kingdom Hearts mythos is teen-angst rubbish.

To be fair, the Kingdom Hearts "mythos" was actually not abysmal for that first game. The game was actually a solid title and I enjoyed it through and through. Everything afterwards, on the other hand... I... just sigh disappointingly at the wasted potential.

No, no. The mythos still sucked, they just kept it in the background so it wasn't so bad.

It seems to me that they've realised that they have stumbled on a goldmine of selling accessories with the organisation 13 thing. Hairstyles and weapon-shaped key rings are pretty much what it's about.

The story plays out like just about any other japanese narrative ever. Somebody is going back to their own dimension for some reason, even if it was never explained or mentioned before. That's just their level of comfort.

also; holy shit the nonsensical angst

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Famitsu review translation | RPG Land: RPG reviews, wallpapers, news and more since 1999.

Quote:

Fujinocchi said each character feels totally different and does different things, so he had no beef playing through three times. He loved the minigames, so he gave it 10/10.

Uwaaman gave it a 9/10 and showered praise on the character development system, story, and combat.

Hatahata hit it with a 9/10 as well, saing that the story impressed her more than anything. Seeing it through three characters’ perspectives was an upside. She’s sure it will be a highly loved game for fans of the Kingdom Hearts world.

And my main man the Giggolo Ashida was all about the combat, particlarly the boss battles. He liked the three characters handling differently during the fights. 9/10.
