Thats it for the RPGS?

After Soul Nomad, the new Growlanser.. is that pretty much it for the RPGs coming out?

I guess its all about the next gen consoles, which i have none of :(

sucks to be a poor gamer, lol

Cetra Sep 18, 2007 02:02 PM

NIS America had something like 12 RPGs still lined up for the PS2 didn't they? I wouldn't be too surprised if at least Mana Khemia and Ar Tonelico 2 made its way outside of Japan through them.

Jujubee Sep 18, 2007 02:10 PM

You sound like you've already played all the RPGs already out. Once I'm done with Persona 3 there are several other games I haven't finished yet, like Odin Sphere and Okami. Not to mention I now have a keen interest in the Shin Megami Tensei series, the next time I see Digital Devil Saga or Nocturne at GameStop I'm snatching 'em.

Dark Nation Sep 18, 2007 02:35 PM

Holy shit I have a giant backlog of games to play, either through Emulation or simply I haven't gotten them yet. There are certainly gonna be more RPGs coming out, but It will be a while, say a couple months until more new items are announced. If anything I think we have too many RPGs as of late.

guyinrubbersuit Sep 18, 2007 02:40 PM

Mass Effect is coming out, or is this only in reference to the PS2? In that case, yeah get a job and buy a 360 and/or PS3.

I don't see how anyone with a job could have played the PS2's entire library of RPG's. :o_O:

Shadow Hearts, Grandia, Star Ocean, .Hack, FF, Wild Arms, NIS games, Breath of Fire... just those ones I can think of off the top of my head are at least a thousand hours of gaming...

CelticWhisper Sep 18, 2007 05:56 PM

I've been stocking up on PS2 RPGs so I can comfortably coast through this generation of consoles.

I have...close to 20 PS2 RPGs that I haven't so much as touched, and another 10 or so that I've not yet finished.

Elixir Sep 18, 2007 06:42 PM

Uh, what? The PS2 is the dominating console, with the largest variety of RPGs, and consoles are still selling (and will continue to sell) worldwide because of the huge variety in different genres - including RPGs.

I can see they'll eventually end up making games for the PS3 instead of the PS2, but anything worthwhile won't roll out until 2008, so finish what you can while you still have the chance.

Hachifusa Sep 18, 2007 07:51 PM

Maybe I have an issue here, but I still don't understand. Is the poster complaining about lack of RPGs for the PS2?

RPGCrazied, you've played EVERY RPG for the system?

mortis Sep 18, 2007 08:42 PM

Between PS1 RPGs and PS2 RPGs, I can easily sit through the PS3, PS4 and PS5 eras (if the latter two were to occur). If you mean new games coming out, the list is somewhat small. Otherwise, there is a giant list of available RPGS...

Good point, I forgot about PS1 RPG's on my shelf... which can be played on PS2 due to backward compatibility. :)

I don't personally believe you're gonna last 12+ years on quality PSone and PS2 titles but eh, whatever floats your boat.

CelticWhisper Sep 19, 2007 08:50 PM

I don't personally believe the current generation is going to last 12+ years.

The last two generations went for...5-6 years, or thereabouts? Sony claims the PS3 is going to last 10 years. The PS2 could launch nuclear missiles and render Toy Story in real-time, too, and it became the centerpiece of the digital lifestyle the day after it was released, just as our prophet Kutaragi said it would.

Seriously, though, I only need to hold out until a PS3 or Xbox is sub-$200 used. I've been seeing fantastic PS2 games for $15 or less in bargain bins, games I paid fullprice for when they came out. Atlus and other niche titles notwithstanding, it's a pretty safe bet that the same thing will happen with PS3/360/Wii. Has for all the past generations.

Plus, I have my DS and I do have a Wii, so I have channels available if my PS2 reservoir runs dry

I was giving each generation a span of 4 years. I know he was probably exaggerating, but still.

Torte Sep 21, 2007 02:42 AM

^ Yep. You can't be telling me that you've already gone through (even half) of them!

Ashton Sep 22, 2007 01:02 AM

I pretty much finished all the PS2 RPGs i wanted to play other than Soul Nomad.

This list includes all NiS games, all Xenosagas, Star Ocean 3, Anything Shin Megami Tensei, all the wild arms except 4, Okami, all the .hacks, all the Shining Tears games, Okage Shadow King, Tales of Destiny RE, Final Fantasy X, X-2, XII, Shadow Hearts, DQ8, KH 1 and 2, and Grandia Xtreme.

The only games left are pretty much Grandia 3 and Soul Nomdle. Tales of the Abyss and of Legendia were just too terrible for me to play, sorry. Grandia 3 i only don't have because it's a huge download AND I can't find it very easily.

And now, until Soul Nomdle comes out, until I get my 360, I can FINALLY work on my pokemon. God.

Didn't get very far, did you?

Ashton Sep 22, 2007 10:40 AM

It was pretty hard, what with the saving time bordering on an entire minute, terrible terrible TERRIBLE voice acting ugh bitch if you sing ONE MORE TIME(A tales game without voices is like a sky without the sun), and the Undub literally being supposedly impossible to install onto my HDL, I just didn't bother anymore.

rpgcrazied Sep 22, 2007 02:38 PM

Im like Ashton, Ive only the NIS games left.. Ive played pretty much all the big titles for the ps2. Ive been gaming for like 17years.. and i have no life.. so there ya go. I have plenty of free time :D

Yea they are moving on to the next gen stuff. Right now RPGs are hitting towards the 360, PS3, DS, and PSP.

However with the current way how things are, the PS2 is still being supported, so who knows? They may surprise us later on down the line with a few more PS2 RPGs.

Speaking of which, anyone heard anything about FFT:A2, Persona 4, or Disgaea 3?

I've heard nothing of any SMT games other than they're coming out for a next gen system. Dis 3 and FFT:A2 just fail to interest me :(

Eh for me I'm just a sucker for RPGs one way or another. I was slightly interested in FFT:A2. but my DS broke though, cause my little brother dropped it by accident (it was like the 20th time the thing was shaken up so much), and the top screen finally broke, but in the sense that when the display shows up, it's all jagged lines and triangles and such. If you hold the top screen at the right angle though it fixes itself. I'm just better off getting a new DS. Right now I'm stuck with an SP. :><:

Haha ain't that the truth. I don't really want any of the new consoles or hand helds. -___- I'm just trying to get any decent looking rpgs 'til the older consoles become obsolete.

gustifur Oct 3, 2007 05:17 PM

i refuse to spend the money that it costs to get a next-gen console until there is a game worth playing, and as of now i have no need, it will probably be final fantasy 13 :)

but i might be a wii because of mario galaxy, play zelda

rpgcrazied Oct 3, 2007 05:31 PM

Im going back to the ps1 era for abit.. just bought Legend of Dragoon and Chrono Cross.

I think i might get a 360 for xmas.. i so wanna play eternal sonta/blue dragon/lost odyesses

Xellos Oct 5, 2007 11:00 AM

I'm kinda glad that there's not as much coming out anymore, because it gives me a chance to once and for all finish my backlog. It's at least 10 PS2 RPGs right now.

I'm not sure what I'll do after that...I haven't quite decided which console to buy next, but just in case I started writing down the names of all the games that I must have from each console, and from the way it looks now, I might have to buy a PS3 and Xbox 360.

Masashin Oct 5, 2007 01:04 PM

Meh i hate it, i'm really aching for a Great or good Next gen rpg...and no enchanted arms was not one of them,i did complete it though but ugh never again.

As someone said, you can always go back to ps1 or even snes/sega old skool:p( God looking at Soleil brings up good memories^^)

rpgcrazied Oct 5, 2007 01:37 PM

yea.. im playing legend of dragoon right now.. the char models are ugly as hell.. but everything else is good so far :P

Tyr Oct 5, 2007 02:11 PM

If you have a good computer I'd highly recommend "The Witcher". It has a combat system akin to a console action/rpg and the dark mature storyline is compelling.

rpgcrazied Oct 5, 2007 03:44 PM

dayum.. that game looks nice.. but if my computer can barely run obilvion with most of the eye candy turned off.. I think this wouldve even run.. lol

Maybe itll come to teh 360? I hope to get one of those for christmas. if not, oh well.
