What do you do with old clothes?
I'm wondering what others do with the clothes they no longer use or need.
I typically either donate mine or sell them to a store in my area every few years or so. Some of my female relatives are also willing to take things I don't use as well. |
Honestly I usually pass some down (or would it be up) to my dad, who is a bit taller than me, but roughly the same size overall.
The rest of it goes to good will. |
My grandparents volunteer in a charity thrift shop, so that's where pretty much everything I go through ends up.
Either donate them, or send them to the Philippines to my relatives.
Usually we send them, but we only send boxes so often. |
Sometimes I rip clothes up and make them into something new, especially t-shirts. Or, I just use the fabric for craft projects. The rest goes to Goodwill or the Salvation Army.
T-Shirts that are a kind of falling apart basically become rags, while the other clothes is given away to folks that need it. My mom is especially keen on this, since she mentioned that's how we got most of our clothes when we were younger.
Growing up, the clothes that didn't fit me were given to younger relatives or friends of our family. But since I've stopped growing, I've pretty much been wearing clothes until they start developing holes in them, so they either get thrown out, or relegated to pajamas if they're still in fairly good shape.
I used to give them to my younger cousins, but now I use them as rags for my rats, they love to make nests out of them.
Big Brothers. They go to charity.
Mother usually gives them to the less unfortunate people she knows who live near the market area. And we donate them also.
We're such good people. |
In the garbage bin. :( I keep my clothes until they pretty much fall to bits. Holes, faded, whatever, if it still gets on then GOOD. Bum fashion. I hate shopping for clothes, so this is the perfect solution. See, I could write a book with these tips!
Generally I'll stick them out for recycling, though I have on a couple of occasions taken things along to charity shops.
We don't have any relatives who are younger than me, so they go straight to charity. I was always the one who got the hand-me downs.
Usually back to where I got them, the second hand store.
No one wants my old clothes :\ So I give most to the Salvation Army and covet the rest, even if I'll never wear them
I gave some of them to my little bro if he wants it (-_-)
My dad usually takes my old shirts and wears them to work or uses them to mop up messes on the patio from when he's working on cars there. Everything else becomes either Salvation Army donations or spare cleaning rags around the house.
Most of my old shirts and pants go to Goodwill, though sometimes my dad keeps an old pair of pants around if he plans to paint his toolshed or something. I generally wear my socks until they've got gaping holes, so they just go in the trash.
I take mine to a thrift store that supports a children's center here in Tucson. Goodwill-ish, I suppose.
My mom deals with them, really. :3
Yeah, I used grow out of clothes very quickly, so giving them away to friends and charity is standard procedure. Being 17 now, I rarely grow out of them, and the next time I do, I'll probably be all on my own! |
I generally throw out my old clothes as I try and get the most out of them before I get rid of them. Very occasionally I will pass some of it onto my younger sister who is of a similar size to me.
Old clothes are put in a giant garbage bag and the donated to the Amity two blocks down, probably every 6 months or so. Actually, that's what we used to do then, but now Recycle Matters comes to ours house bi-weekly or monthly and picks up the clothes we've left for them in the lobby. I think we stopped sending clothes and such over to my cousins in the Philippines.
Oh well... I just give'em to my mother and she takes care of the rest hehehehe.
I used to think donating my old clothes to big brother and stuff was cool, until I found out that they sell them! That's right, they take your designer clothes you don't wear anymore and then sell them again, rediculous, I thought I was giving it away to a good cause and that someone will get a nice pair of guess jeans for free or something.
Yeah so I stopped doing that, nowadays I usually just walk around downtown during my lunch at work or w/e.. And I'll notice a homeless guy or something, if he's usually there when I'm on my lunch, I'll just drop off my bag of jeans to him and know that it went directly to a good cause. If he sells them, well at least he has some money coming in, what he uses it for? I don't care that's his life, what I offered him was the ability to clothe himself. Im just saying, I find it kinda wrong that a company takes items for free and then charges someoen who can't afford it, money to wear something that someone didn't need in the first place... IMO that's wrong, and if any fortune 500 company did that, wouldn't we call that a scandle? D. |
When I was younger, all my old clothes were given to my cousins, since they still looked brand new; they're jsut not my size anymore.
Now that I have grown up and my cousins are way too small to wear them, most of them (usually trousers) are given to people working in my father's store. T-shirts and shorts are used as window and floor wipers. As for underpants, they are shredded and thrown into 20 different garbage bins. |
I offer them to cousins or whatever. If I can't get a hold on them, I just donate them to the nearest place I can think of.
Mine go into the rag drawer or the trash. I wear my clothes till there is nothing left of them. If there is anything to salvage I use the scraps for costume design to just to play with. Halloween is almost here.
I got most of my clothes from my relatives, so I dont need to spend any more expenses on clothing. My mom usually give my clothes to my cousin when they are not fit for me anymore.
On a side note, getting cloths like that will make you grow without fashion sense, since you never go to boutique or clothing centre to pick your own stuff, seriously ;p |
I tend to have them lumped into a charity bag and given to charity. We usually get bags sent through the door to fill up for collection.
I usually take them to Goodwill if they aren't ratty by the time I am done with them, or give them to my younger cousin.
I either give my old clothes to a charity shop, sell them at a carboot, or give them to my mum to do with as she pleases, which basically means they'll either end up in a charity shop or she'll give them to someone she knows.
If there absolutely ratty I'll throw them. Underwear wise I throw them too, I don't think anyone would want mine lol |
Grab a sissor , cut til it fits moden style :)
If they're still good I drop them off at the local humane society thrift shop, otherwise I just throw them out. T-shirts, as it has been noted, make lovely cleaning rags.
I'm not sure what else one would do with old clothing. *shrug* They generally aren't all that great for craft material since everything is in such small and disparate pieces. |
