MegaScrabble Game 3
ZERGRINCH WINS
Ok bingo hounds, it’s time for Game 3 to get underway. As usual, the game starts at 10am. Given the larger than normal amount of players (we’ve got 12 this time, compared to what ended up being 9 last game), this should be over in less than a week. Each day lasts 24 hours and begins at 10am. I’ll keep this thread updated with the latest scores, and at 10am every day (or close to it, depending on sleep/work) I’ll post everyone’s new tiles to bring their total back up to 14. Remember: -POST YOUR WORDS IN CAPITAL LETTERS -Post your moves/scores in the thread -Letter/word multipliers only work for the first word(s) played on them (lots of folks make this mistake). -I go through and change the blanks on the board to italic letters in different font. I’ll be checking scores/letters for accuracy. If anyone makes a word for which they don’t have the letters, or any other illegal move, they forfeit that turn, and I’ll take the letters off the board if no one has played off them yet. I just have a few questions before I do anything:
When I play a word, should I update the board? Does the square in the middle count as a double-word score? Is there a set starting point? |

Oh dear, my rack doesn't seem bingoable... ;___;

I guess I'll throw up something before work, to get the ball rolling and whatnot. DRILLED. Lemme know if I screwed up in any way.
|
I'm placing JOULING, which should be 60.
|
Quote:
I object to that word. I will not remove his tiles, but if the objection is sustained, I wish to put PUMP_IKE on that same L, forming PUMPLIKE for 68 points. |
Quote:
|
And here I thought the SOWPODS dictionary would be good enough...

Did you know JEWISH is not a valid TWL entry? I had to reject this particular word in game 1 in fear of it being declared illegal :p
|
Neither are BRITISH or ANGLICAN. I have to assume it's because they're proper nouns.
|
Yeah. Apparently TWL doesn't take proper nouns which can be adjectives :P

Side note: I don't approve of Zerg placing multiple words and then deciding on one of them to use. I know people sometimes need a visual aid and there may not be a way to moderate it, but it flies in the face of traditional Scrabble rules. (And makes it hard to determine what areas are available.) EDIT: I've added SPRINGY to the board across the P in PUMPLIKE. That should give me 42. |
Added JAVE[L]IN off the N in SPRINGY for 64 points.
EDIT: added a Q on the 2w spot between SPRINGY and JAVELIN, forming QI twice for 44 points. Letters left: D, A, Y, N, I, T |
Quote:
EDIT: Acro-nym's original tileset (IBIRYGOO[]USVEJ) did not contain an N, so the N in SPRINGY must be a blank. I adjusted his and Face's scores accordingly. |

|
No problem.
Today I made FIVER (38 points) and FOOTER/JO/AT/ER (33 points) for a total score of 71 points for the day. |
I laid down the following
OXIDATIVE (40) JEWEL (15) Total : 55 |
I did these
WOOLENS(on top of springy using the s) 22 points NEXT(using the X from oxidative) 22 points too I think that makes 44 points for my whole turn and the tiles I think I have left are OGAI. |
I put T RN on the E in WOOLENS, forming TERN for a humiliatingly low 4 points.
Letters remaining: ZNRR |
Played...
OUTFAWN off of the W in WOOLENS for 52 points. OEDIPAL off the L in WOOLENS for 20 points. [that's it? Bleh.] AT was created at the same time for a measly 2 points. Total: 74, Letters left: VW Too bad, no Bingo this time. ): |
Let's see what I can dish out.
WOODING: 40 JEWELING: 32 POINTS: 72 SCORE: 72 Not bad for the first day. |
Augh I start with 75 I's. Not much time to think things through either.
First word: PAIRING - 22 (double letter score I, double word score) Second word: HAT - 6 HIS - 6 SER - 3 37 points. Ew. |
Alright then!
MAROON (2nd O in wooding) = 7 x 2 = 14 ON (2nd O in wooding) = 2 EN (E in oedipal) = 2 BRIM (R in pairing) 7 x 2 = 14 32 Points~ Remaining letters: IIWUR |
ok my first word is
FLOATIER (24) and my last one in this game day is HOAGIE (28) so I got a total of 52 points today :D |
Letters and scores are updated for today. I'm not sure if Zergrinch will have any more luck bingoing this hand, but he's got double Zs now; Smelnick's new nickname is Captain E.
|
I hate you, turnip. :(
My first move is NETZ, on the R in FLOATIER, forming NERTZ for 48 points. My second move is REFRZEN, on the O in FLOATIER, forming REFROZEN for 80 points. Total for the day: 128 points Tiles remaining: vax |
My first play for the day is BENCHED across the E in NERTZ and above the E in FLOATIER.
BENCHED = 38 BE = 8 Total: 46 Tiles remaining: IOOUVJFI My second play is JIVE, using the E in REFROZEN. It should be 28 points. Daily total: 74 Grand total: 114 Tiles Remaining: OOUFI That's a lot of vowels... |
For today, I made PROTONATED/DO for 55 points, OUNCE for 14 points, and got a bingo bonus of 50 points.
Yay! My first bingo of MegaScrabble (I think); my total points for today are 119. Still not enough to beat the still bingoless Zergrinch. :( EDIT: I forgot to condemn Acro-nym for blocking off a triple word score. You'll rue that move, Acro-nym, just you wait. |
Take that, you vegetable! Sabotage my bingos with your completely random draws by not giving me favorable bingoable letters, will you?! :tpg:
Also, I praise Acro-nym for blocking off a 3x2 word score. If Face had been allowed to play that particular opening, he's gonna murder us all! |
Got it this time. :D I've got...
ACTIVATORS, off the end of BRIM, for 32 points, Forming BRIMS at the same time for an additional 8 points. WHITE off the T in ACTIVATORS for 21 points. Bingo! +50 points. No letters left, and eleventy-one points, if I counted correctly. |
Hmm. Lots of vowels today. but as long as I haven't screwed anything up, I'm left with only a U. hehe
CEMETERY (28) VIDETTE (14) Edit: Total Score 42 |
Quote:
Quote:
|
First move is GODDAMNED off the M in CEMETERY, for 56 points.
And curse you for this draw. :cussing: EDIT Second move: LINTY off the I in JEWELING, for 36 points. This means 92 points for today, which leaves me just two points behind Zergrinch. :( |
Ok I got my turnes for today...still no bingo
SOUPY (26) [YA] (5) and SFORZANDI (64) Total: 95 Letter Remaining "x" |
Quote:
As in past games, I'm not mentioning smaller scoring errors I correct here (up or down), because they happen all too frequently. Of course, if you think I made a mistake, you should let me know. This game is turning out to be very interesting. There's some real competition for the top spot (this could be due to the less than stellar letters of some folks, though). |

here is what I did.
VARIETY(52) ZIP(28) total for the day 80 I think. Tiles left MOG |
FOGGER: 24
DAFTER: 28 POINTS: 52 SCORE: 124 I didn't have much to go on. =/ |
Guess I'd better make a move before I forget: T[U]LIPS and TOGGLE. That leaves me with M-Z-T-D for tomorrow.
I'm too tired to compute the score, though. Surprise me. |
Building both words on the left side.
First move: IF - 5 FOUNTAIN - 17 (triple letter score on O, N, and N) Second move: HAIL - 21 (triple word score) HA - 15 (triple word score) AI - 2 IN - 2 (the triple letter score doesn't count for my second move, right?) Total points: 62 Letters left: O-O Hm, seems like this should've been worth more. I still had too many vowels to get the bingo today. |
POURING (O in toggle) = 12 x 2 = 24
VIDS (V in variety) = 8 x 2 = 16 40 points Total Points: 70 Remaining Letters: IWWV |
Quote:
New letters are up for today; given the abysmal draws of some people (Zerg is looking up, though), I'll remind everyone that you have the option of using a turn to discard some or all of your tiles. Plarom, please put your words in capital letters on the board. Everyone should double check your remaining letters, because some of you are reporting different letters remaining than what you actually have (Juanzen was way off). |
I'd like to swap out one O, two Is, and an E.
|
Indeed, things do seem to be looking up!
My first move is SEXTS, putting S adjacent to the O in OUNCE. This forms SEXTS and SO, for a total of 20 points. My second move places OVEROAKED next to the S I placed, forming OVERSOAKED. This earns 171 points. I get a bingo for using up all my letters, which is worth 50 points. Total points for the day is 241 points, which is 20 + 171 + 50. |
Acro-nym trades in O-I-I-E for the possibly less desirable A-U-U-D.
Zergrinch dies in a fire. |
CARTOON(20)
ORIGIN(14) measly 34 points, but what can you do, tiles left... better not even try at this point. |
Ugh, I still only have that darn U left.
ISOGAMETE (22) EMBOW[S] (19) Total 41 |
Quote:
But hey, OUNCE was your word which made this all possible! |
My words for today are SMACK/VIDETTES (76 points) and JOVIAL (34 points). I wanted very badly to do something else (I won't say what), but lack of decent vowels prevented me.
|
oK I play the words
EXECUTER (35) NE (2) and RUBUS (7) letters remaining "FJ" |
With few good options, I played ANNELID through JIVE for 45 points.
|
The game most definitely hates me.
BOOGIE (30) - off the B in RUBUS AUDITEES (22) - off the E in BENCHED |
That's what I get for putting letters in just before bed, I guess.
Anyway, I'll play MANHOOD, since that's more or less what's at stake. It also forms OD, which is on the official two-letter list. EDIT: The second and final word of the night is HAFT, which uses the H in HAIL and the A in FOUNTAIN. |
CLOVER: 28
DOTTER: 36 POINTS: 64 SCORE: 186 Nutty, on my records for day two I had 124 points. But your math says 122. Care to tell? |
Quote:
Before you ask, I came up with CLOVER (34) and DOTTER (24) for today. |
Quote:
|
Here's today's moves~
RE[L]AXANTS off the E in BOOGIE, for 69 points. SHAKY, using the H and K in both HOAGIE and SMACK, for 30 points. Today's score: 99 points; Letters left: J-N-V Total so far: 284, I think~ |
First move:
EXOTICA - 51 (double letter score I, triple word score) AM - 3 Second move: ZAP - 34 (triple letter score Z) ZA - 31 (triple letter score Z) AX - 9 PA - 4 132 points today, I believe. Much better. |
Quote:
The new letters for today are up a little early, since I've got some other stuff to attend to this morning. Face may have a bingoable hand today, except for that pesky Q, but Zergrinch has a good hand as well. Plarom still has until 10am to make his move for yesterday. |
My first move is GONOCYTE, attaching to the R in rubus. This forms GONOCYTE and RE for 30 points.
My second move is LEITED on the N in gonocyte, forming LENITED for 54 points. Bingo! Total points today: 30+54+50 = 134. |
ok I haven't calculated scores yet, but I will later
BUREAUS WOS WE SI I will try to add them ASAP. |
Looks like the bingo fairy has skipped my house again.
POO (10) - off the P in TULIPS DRAGOONING (90) - off the O in POO 100 points for today. |
Damn you, Js! No bingo today.
JOINTED, off D in DOTTER, for 48 points. VARIOUS, off R in EXECUTOR, for 20 points. The S in VARIOUS formed OUTFAWNS, for another 14 points. Points today: 82, Letters left: J-R Total: 366 |
Ok So today I have :D
OBVIOUS (13) and thats it for right now |
I start by playing FLUORI[D]E across OBVIOUS for 40 points.
My second turn is playing THUGS using the S in OBVIOUS for 18 points. Letters remaining: IOU Funny. |
I don't have time to tabulate the new scores at the moment, but I played WHILE (38 points) and GLOVING (32 points) for today. I spent way too much time thinking about this at work, and don't feel like staring at the board tonight as well.
|
I'm too tired to make a move tonight, so I'll just trade in some tiles.
A, E, A, O |
Ok my last word of the day is
P[O]UFF (18) |
First move:
JOSHED - 50 (double letter score J, double word score) DO - 6 (double word score) Second move: HAILS - 9 (double letter score S) SWOON - 18 (souble letter score S, double word score) Remaining letters: A-O-A-I |
Letters and scores updated for today.
|
Maybe today's set was bingoable, but I wasn't about to abandon a 3x3 spot to
WHEE (20) - off the W in SWOON VENDETTAS (126) - off the E in WHEE Total: 146. Letters left: Q, Y, L. |
My first play is QUIVERED down through ACTIVATORS for 46 points.
I can't think of anything to play and can't spend the time thinking about it. I'll just swap out my Is. |
Face, you mean mean meanie you! I'm so mad I'm going to leave a 3x3 open so you can stare and watch it! :D
First move: AQUATONE off the N in swoon, forming AN and AQUATONE, for 68 points. My blank tile acts as a U. Second move: SWOOSH attached to haft, forming SWOOSH and HAFTS, for 35 points. I bingo, for 50 points. Total points today: 153 points. |
EVICT(16)
TARGET(21) total 37 points I guess wich is pretty pathetic nothing better to think of... I almost placed overvoltage but the free Ls didn't help. |
Because it's Saturday and I don't want to spend all night staring at the board, I made WAD/EWE/ADO for 30 points, and HAVI[N]G for 24 points.
|
ERADICATOR (20)
THEFT (19) total 39 I am way behind in this game. Stupid grandmother needing laminate flooring lol. |
Another rough draw for today. D:
WEARER, WE, ET, off of TARGET at the bottom, for 19, 13, and 2 points respectively. QUEUERS, off of WEARER, for 51 points. Today: 85 points, Letters left: J-O Total: 451 points~ |
AJUGAS/TARGETS, using the TARGET already on the board.
ZOWIE using the E in EXECUTER. |
First move (I can't believe this fits in here):
LAMINATE - 90 (double letter score N, two triple word scores) NE - 3 (double letter score N) AR - 2 TA - 2 ED - 9 (triple word score) Remaining letters: O-A-L-E-I-L |
Quote:
|
I probably subconciously thought of the word because of your post. So thanks.
Second move: Adding onto the Z in ZIP LAZE - 26 (double word score) |
Ok For Today (wile it still is today) :P
BA[N]DICOOT (30) and I will exchange the letters JOV |
New tiles are up for today; tomorrow will definitely be the last day. In order to get more tiles for everyone tomorrow, I added Plarom's tiles back into the mix, since he hasn't been around for a few days. I'll distribute the tiles as evenly as possible tomorrow (so that everyone has roughly the same number), but dividing 54 letters among 11 people won't give anyone many letters.
|
Found a bingo, but not any good places to put it in.
Turn 1: ALTHROP, off the C in activators, forming CALTHROP and AE, for 34 points. I'll wait till someone gives me an opening :D Screw that opening, found one that's good enough! Turn 2: FAJITAS, adjacent to calthrop, forming CALTHROP, OF, and PA, for 40 points. I bingo, for 50 points. Total points today: 124. Total points accumulated: 850. I guess I won't be able to get 1000 as I wanted to in the first game. It's impossible for me to get 150 points without that bingo bonus on the last day, and I doubt I can repeat that OVERSOAKED monstrosity that got me 176 points in this game :P |
I had a bingo, but no opening and it seems nobody is around to give me one. I have to go to bed so I've settled for the following:
SQUEAKER (66) - off the S in QUEUERS BREED/NEE/ARE/TAD (32) - alongside ERADICATOR That gives me 98 points, and absolutely no hope of catching up. Not that I had any. :gonk: |
GOONIE(18)
GYNIATRY(32) 50 points... pretty bad again I can't really think of anything good lately argh... |
I REALLY wanted to play 'FELLATIO', but the only open T didn't really give me any score bonuses. :/ So, for today I've got...
FRIJOLE, off the R in GYNIATRY for 44 points. TAXIS, spanning from AQUATONE to VENDETTAS, for 20 points. Sad day today. Only 64 points. Letters left: J-I-L-L-O. No hope of catching up now. Heh. |
First play: TYP[H]OON across VARIOUS for 30 points.
Second play: BALSA down through FRIJOLE for 16 points. |
ELA[B]ORATING, using the E in HOAGIE.
STATE, using the S in FAJITAS. I think that's all my letters used, but I suppose I might have made another fatigue mistake (it's been a long day). |
Nice bingo, orion.
For today, I made OBOE (12 points) and FLASH/OBOES (44 points). Nothing special. |
I'm sucking this game around
GRIPSACK (23) JURIED (14) total is 37 |
First move:
HEALED - 30 (triple word score) Second move: LONG - 6 OWE - 6 NET - 3 |
It is getting harder and harder to find places to place words :P
I got W[A]LR[U]SES (12) P[R][E]FIX (40) |
Letters are up for today, the last day. I distributed the tiles so that the top 5 players have 8 letters, and the bottom 5 players have 9 letters. Yeldarb is the only player with 14 letters (he didn't play yesterday), so he's the only person who can earn a bingo bonus.
|
Second to the last move: MIR on the E in quivered, forming EMIR, AM, TI, and OR. Combined points - 19.
Last move: LARES on the G in origin, forming AQUATONES and GLARES, for a total of 34 points. It's a bingo, but it doesn't count :( Total haul of 53 points. |
BENE/BO/ER/NA/GET (46) - between GRIPSACK and ELABORATING
FLY/FE (18) - above the E in GOONIE 64 points. Better than Zergrinch, although I didn't use all my tiles. :p |
You wish to brag about 11 points when I got you beat by 23 times that? :D
|
Sucks. The first time I bingo ever is the time when it doesn't count lol
AUSTEREST (18) AA (4) total 22 Not my best game ever. |
I made TIS/QI (15 points) and EN/NO/DO (11 points). I'll try to update the thread in the morning with the final scores, but it will depend on if I can get through my office's webfilter. They put it up right before I left on Friday, and at that point I could access most of GFF, but I don't know if they've tweaked it since then.
|
SMACKS(13)
YO(5) SOON(8) YUP(16) total for my final day is 42. So That's that. |
Last play, then...
JOULE and EF, using the F in FLASH, for 30 and 2 points. GLIA, using the G in from ELABORATING, for 10 points That's 42 today, for a final score of 553. No letters left. |
I'm playing AXED down through LENITED and ROAR using CALTHROP. I don't have the heart to calculate that.
|
First move: In QUIVERED and various other words
IRIS - 8 (double word score) AMINO - 6 TIS - 6 (double word score) Second move: on CLOVER VIVA - 20 (double word score) 40 points isn't bad for half of my letters being I's |
This was a good game :P
V[A]DOSE (13) BAAE[D] (11) |
TARIFF, using the T in OUTFAWNS and the I in OEDIPAL.
DRAG, using the D in GODDAMNED and the A in PROTONATED. |
Final scores are updated; congratulations to Zergrinch. Poor Face got stuck with some bad letters early on, and wasn't able to recover.
I'm thinking of starting an all-purpose sign-up thread for the future, instead of creating a new sign-up thread for each game. I think I'll be sitting out next game, as my brain needs a rest, but I'll still run it. |
I may have to sit the next one out if my school work keeps going like the first week. But as long as I have the time, I'll keep doing these. I love Scrabble.
Also, I hate the letter I. |
If anyone's interested, I made a chart showing everyone's averages over all the games. I'll link it in the wiki and keep it updated.
|
Lucky!
|
Sounds like a good idea nutty. What would be cool is for each game on the wiki, write out who all played and what their final score was. Maybe even all the words they put down? If you want. I can compile lists for that on thursday and friday. I got nothing better to do.
|
Quote:
|
lol. I might do it just out of boredom. lol.
|
Great game! I did better than I thought, but still nowhere near as good as Zerg. Congrats! I'm definitely in for the next game, whenever that is.
And nice average you've got there, Face. Lucky indeed. |
