We do have a very strong team, with Booty returning for his final year and many of our defense coming back like Keith Rivers. We'll have to see. Sugar Bowl, here we come!

The preseason number 5 getting defeated in the first week, and by a DIVISION I-AA team no less. Got to suck for Michigan and its fans to kiss this year's national championship dreams goodbye so early and in such an embarrassing way.

My favorite team, Auburn, scared me for a while there, but they pulled it out in the end. Clutch performances by the defense coupled with a lot of mental mistakes {in the form of penalties} by K-State made it so.

But our most formidable opponent is Nebraska. That will be a fun game to watch. Beat the Huskers!

Oh, and Haha at Michigan. We must have fucked them over so hard that they lost to a I-AA team.

Being a Michigan State fan, I had fun watching Michigan lose while watching our team rack up points against our lowly opponent. Now I just hope to god we can beat Michigan later in the year instead of suffering the typical mid-season meltdown.

All I heard this week was Okie-State "amazing offense". BLAH!!! UGA shut them down and even more impressive was the o-line and how well they played even with 2 freshmen starters!!!

Well, my team, Arizona, sucks ass again so now I'm just looking for more BCS mishaps. We need it to fail time and time again so they know that playoffs are the way to go. Just look at Appalachian State, they became the two time champion through a playoff and it's obviously legit because they took down Michigan in the Big House.

Oregon is kicking Michigan's ass 32-7 with 5 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter. The loss last week wasn't a fluke. Michigan's football program has gone down the drain.

Looking forwards to LSU and V-Tech. I really hope V-Tech wins. I really hope it will bring the whole "greatest conference is the SEC" argument more into perspective.

You're just sad that the conference that your favorite team plays in only has two or maybe three better than average teams a year, while the SEC typically has five or six better than average teams a year.

Notre Dame and Michigan play each other next week. I'm sure it'll be a great game..... :rolleyes:

This was a great weekend in football. Many upsets.

Cocks beat the Dawgs. I enjoyed the game. I was very happy with our Defense in the first half. They showed much better coverage than last week when we played UL-La. Blake Mitchell didn't throw an interception! I think that was the first game in his career. Interesting game. It wasn't a complete shut out but it kept me on the edge of my seat.

Sadly, a few fans were a little upset. Thank God for the Georgia police. Nothing like a bunch of drunk frat boys...

I really hope that the Fighting Irish can get some luck along with their skill and come on top of Michigan. I was suprised that Michigan has been doing so bad lately. Come on Notre Dame. Even though I'm not very confident in Notre Dame.

Last year was the first year my team (Michigan) beat ND in a couple years, and with how shitty our season's going, I don't think much luck is needed.

Well, so far Iowa is doing about as I would have expected. First year quarterback, young offensive line and basically no receiving corps at all. Especially now that our starting TE broke his arm, and our only tested wideout injured his hamstring against Wisconsin. Time to bring in the redshirts!

One thing is sure, though. Unless Wisconsin just had an off night, they really aren't all that deserving of their rank, and I think there are many teams in the B10 that are going to beat them. I expected them to mop the floor with the Hawkeyes, and really...they had to beat us in the last 2 minutes.

I was expecting Florida to embarrass Auburn, considering how poorly the Tigers have been playing, but I guess I should have taken into account how much Auburn always seems to step up their game when they play both Florida and LSU. Next I get to expect Arkansas and McFadden, and LSU and Dorsey to embarrass Auburn over the next month, and just hope that they step up their game for these teams. Though, to be honest, I wouldn't cry if LSU went undefeated and then got the opportunity to smoke the shit out of USC in the championship game.

I can't believe what happened. USC lost to Stanford by one point. But ya, I have to agree with russ. It was going to very hard to go undefeated (we have Oregon and Cal as away games) but to Stanford? That just hurts. The last time we lost at a home game was back in 2001 to Stanford. This is some crazy karma thing or something.

Looks like a miracle happened, Notre Dame won!!!! Notre Dame was suppose to lose by 22 points. But UCLA helped Notre Dame a lot. According to ESPN, UCLA turned the ball over seven times and had 11 penalties for 93 yards. I have a feeling that this might be Notre Dame's only win this year.

Hmm. USC actually dropped in ranking by 3 positions. I was hoping they would at least stay at #10 or maybe drop one position. But 3?

Also, I am pretty surprised that South Florida is ranked number two. I think this year might be one of those years where both teams playing in the big game have losses.

South Florida, by far, has the best resume of the remaining unbeatens. The other 5 have pretty much played a cupcake schedule. And I wouldn't really be impressed if BC, Kansas (up to the Big-12 title game anyway), or Hawaii went undefeated.

Kansas doesn't play anyone, so I'm not really worried about them. They'll suck in conference play (Ehh, we probably will, too. Oh well)

As odd as this may sound, I'm not very happy South Carolina is ranked so high. The UNC game was horrible. I sat in the stands thinking, "we might lose to UNC...what the fuck."

I hope Steve gets the boys working. We play like that against Florida or Tennessee, and we're dead. I would much rather be sitting at 12th or 13th and have somewhere to go.

The BCS computer rankings blew my mind the most. If I understood it correctly, the computers has us ranked at 3rd. I'm glad the AP poll and USA today rankings brought it down. The team is good, but not 3rd.

USC and Notre Dame this Saturday. USC with a 19 point spread. Either way, I think this will be an interesting game. Sanchez will most likely play and ND is staring a new QB. Last time USC played at South Bend, we almost lost. 7 seconds with Bush pushing Leinart for the touchdown.

I think this is kinda bullshit that ASU is ranked below Cal and Oregon, as far as AP, USA Today and Harris. I can understand why but thats crap since they are undefeated in the Pac-10

On paper, this doesn't look good for Auburn. Going to the bayou, to face what will certainly be an angry LSU squad. But hey, Auburn is good about stepping up for big games, as shown by the game against Florida. Plus Auburn and LSU have been playing each other very tough each of the last several years. Oh My God...the end of the LSU game...amazing...

The fact is that Auburn's defense sort of broke down in the second half, however, the officials fucked Auburn so hard. First they wave off a very warranted flag so that LSU gets credit for a touchdown, then on the final drive, they give LSU the most ridiculous spot I have ever seen. They spot the ball nearly a full yard past where it should have been spotted, which of course gave them a first down. I mean when the official, who is standing right there, spots the ball beyond even where the player slid, much less where he was actually down, come on, that's just bogus.

Seems like officiating today was just...fucked up in general.

The Cal v. UCLA game was filled with some of the worst officiating ever as well.

That spot was the most retarded spot I'd ever seen. Auburn got screwed right there, straight up.

Also, I love how Coach Miles didn't know how much time was left on the clock when he had Flynn throwing it deep in the endzone at the very end.

BCS RANKINGS
Cal is one lucky duck. They have their next 5 games or so to prove themselves and to move up. A win over USC and Arizona St. will definitely put them back in the race for the Pac-10 title and a trip to the rose bowl. Same for Oregon.

These BCS standings are messed up. Last week was WVU's bye week and they went down a ranking. This week was Boston College's bye week and they went up. Unless I'm mistaken, I didn't see Arizona State play this week either and they went all the way up to #4? Again, I'd rather not use WVU as an example but when they had their first loss...it was to a ranked team and they went from #5 to #13, granted that wasn't BCS standings. LSU loses to a ranked team and they go down to #4? How the hell does that work?

I'm surprised Oklahoma went down this week. They did just as well as Ohio State did, yet they dropped to #6.

Yeah, but also, Ohio St. was up for the first 3 quarters or so.

Uh, West Virginia went from 9th to 7th in the BCS. And last week was the first BCS rankings so...

And you're angry that Boston College moved up from #3 to #2 after #2 lost?? I mean, what, do you just want #2 to be blank? Do you think a team deserves to move ahead of Boston College even though they didn't have an opportunity to win a game?

ASU went from 8th to 4th. The teams they jumped were: USF (who lost), Kentucky (who lost and now has 2 losses to ASU's), South Carolina (same as Kentucky), and Oklahoma (who barely squeaked by one of the worst teams in college football and has played 3 teams that already have 6 or more losses).

West Virginia dropped further than LSU because most people still feel LSU is one of, if not the, best team in the country, as is evidenced by them still getting first place votes in the AP poll despite having a loss. West Virginia lost to the only good team it has played all year long and can still get to the title game.

the Cal - UCLA game was quite interesting to watch. there were some really bad calls for both teams and also the interception at 1:45 by UCLA sealed the deal.

I know WVU moved up this week. I just don't get how these rankings are justified. Examples:

#5 WVU loses to #18 South Florida, WVU drops to #13.

(in-between BCS)
#1 LSU loses to #17 Kentucky, LSU drops to #4.

(BCS)
#2 South Florida loses to unranked Rutgers, South Florida drops to #10.

So looking at it like this, it's like WVU lost to an unranked team or South Florida lost to a ranked team. I just don't understand how LSU got so freakin lucky and only dropped to #4 when in reality they should've dropped to #8. They almost lost again this weekend against Auburn and what would they have been then, #7? I don't care how good they are...South Florida was good and look where they are now, bottom of the top 10.

Boston College moving up, I can understand because the team above them lost. I guess there's no reason why they should stay there, because that would mean LSU would jump them to #2.

Oregon was #10, and they did just as well as WVU did against an unranked team. However, they jumped past Oklahoma (who almost lost to an unranked team) and went up to #5. Well that means that WVU should jump up that much too, right? Wrong, they're under Oklahoma at #7. Yes, they jumped from 9 to 7 but Oregon made the jump from 10 to 5.

Also, where's the love for Rutgers? I see some teams on the Top 25 BCS standings that have had 2 losses, yet Rutgers beat the #2 team and is nowhere to be found.

You know what though, if any of these teams were to lose in the next few weeks then none of this would matter because you wouldn't see them on the top 10 (except maybe Ohio State and Boston College).

Also, I see Kansas making a big jump soon if they keep winning since they're one of the few teams still undefeated. Too bad Hawaii can't get that same treatment.

LSU got "lucky" in that its loss came against a ranked and surprisingly strong conference rival in Kentucky after three periods of overtime. If ever there was a loss that could be considered "good", it would be this one, and while a loss meant that LSU couldn't remain #1, the voters saw nothing that would suggest that LSU didn't deserve to only drop to #4.

Hawaii would get that same treatment if their undefeated record came against more teams that are actually good, as opposed to cupcakes and two I-AA teams, and didn't keep looking for ways to lose against that same collection of teams.

Luck or not. LSU gained a victory. No matter how you look at it in the books, it will still say LSU -- Victory.

To you saying where's the love for Rutgers, what about Oregon State when they beat Cal, who was ranked #2, or Stanford who knocked off USC.

And you also need to remember that we are looking at the BCS rankings.

If it makes you feel better Sonic, both human polls ranked Arizona state down at 8, Oklahoma at 4, Oregon at 5 and WVU at 6.

The BCS rankings have ALWAYS been flawed. They're flawed, but not so flawed that they put undefeated teams right at the stop.

If they really did put a playoff system into the BCS, I have a good feeling USC, Oregon, Cal, Oregon St. and Arizona St. would do some damage.

I think the only reason they don't want to do it is because they'll have to reconfigure the BCS Bowl games and what not.

If they made playoffs and allowed only the top 4 or 8 teams in, or maybe only major conference champions plus a couple of spots for "at large" teams, they could keep the same basic premise of their current bowl system, and simply add an extra game or two at the very end for the title game. If you have like a top 8 team playoffs, your major 4 bowls {Rose, Fiesta, Sugar, Orange} could serve as the first round of the playoffs, with new games created after these.

I agree with that, like have all 119 teams playing it out, single elimination and then when you get to like...x teams (where x equals number of bowl games/championships * 2) Then just start putting them into bowl games based off some kind of legit poll system (no computer shit) like the coaches and AP polls.

It's almost like you're arguing that 90% of what goes into deciding the polls should be who won and who lost. Don't look at (or give much weight to) who someone beat, who someone lost to, where, and, even more important, how good the team actually is.

I think based on this season that we could match up LSU with any team in the country and play 10 games and I think LSU would win at least 6 games against every single team.

Don't look for a second at who beat who. Isn't it possible that LSU is no worse than #4 in the country? Would you think those 7 teams that you'd put ahead of LSU would be better?

The one team that I think should be up on the rankings would be Oregon St.

They're a great team, just had a bad string of luck/confidence in a few of their 4th quarters.

Truthfully I can't answer that. If there's one thing I've learned this year, it's that any team can win on any given day. I love the upsets that have been happening throughout the year. So both of those questions can go either way. This should hopefully end my rant on the whole BCS situation.

As for the bowls, I would also prefer a playoff as well and base the bowls off of that. However...as for how many teams would be in the playoff, at least 64.

They lost to UCLA at home by 34 and by 31 at Cincinnati. :\ And they probably would have been blown out by Cal if Longshore had played/been 100%. They would have at least had to go to OT if Riley didn't blow Cal's entire season for them first.

I'm a Pac-10 homer but Oregon State is solidly the 6th best team in a conference that has shown itself to be a bit of a paper tiger.

Oregon State I've always found Iffy. Now if you took Oregon State's Defense and Oregon's Offense...that would make a sick team.

But I think Cal could possibly get back into it if they win out...and if Longshore gets back into top shape, that possibility is VERY good because USC has been VERY sloppy this year

Well I guess it is a good thing that you don't make any of the decisions for college football, because seriously, 64 team playoff field? That would be 6 weeks worth of playoffs ok. Six weeks. Do you honestly think that this year's Stanford, or Vanderbilt, or hell, even 5-3 Auburn deserve a shot at winning the national championship? I mean these are teams that are probably in the top 64 in the nation. To me, even 16 teams is too many, because that would still be four weeks of playoffs. It is different in basketball, in that basketball isn't as physically punishing on the players as football, so an extra four games every year could be fairly detrimental on the health of these student-athletes. I would maybe go for eight teams, but that is a huge maybe. There are many years where there is controversy at the very top of the polls, but after the top few teams, there is enough of a drop-off to know. In 2004, you had USC, Oklahoma, and Auburn who were undefeated and of course, Auburn got squeezed out. If there had been a playoff between the top four ranked teams, the controversy that year could have been settled on the field. Last year, you basically had a fight over who would play Ohio State in the title game, between one loss Florida, one loss Michigan, and even undefeated Boise State wanted a part of it. A four team playoff would have settled that with less whining.

And I think what you just said russ is the reason they aren't going to implement a playoff system.

Because Colorado is good? Kansas barely won, and they've played nobody this season. I'll call it now, 9-3 after losing the last 3 of the season, including the Missouri "no-lube" rape of them on their last game of the year.

The problem with a 4-team playoff is selecting the 4 teams. The 5th-best team certainly has a better reason to whine than the 9th- or 17th-best team.

Division I-AA and II both do 16-team playoffs, Division III does 32 teams. I think you could certainly get by on a 3-week, 8-team playoff (and it would end up being the sporting event of the year, I think it would be even bigger than the Super Bowl). But the NCAA itself admits that a 4-week playoff is doable, since that is what it does in its other divisions.

Wow. The last three minutes? Matt Ryan made it look easy running away from VT defensive line. I think all his big plays came when VT broke his pocket. The flag for their second tounchdown was a huge WTFBBQ for them, but then he did the exact same thing right afterwards.

I think the thing to take away from last nights game is that both teams are extremely overrated and the ACC is a pile of shit this year.

I see Oregon moving to #2 ahead of LSU

I think, at this point, Oregon is a better team than LSU, but I don't see them making a big enough jump in the computers or in the polls to get ahead.

Oregon may have the easiest path to the national championship game, though. They only have games at Arizona, at UCLA (good record, but absolutely terrible), and Oregon State (who, other than a rivalry game, shouldn't be difficult).

LSU still has a deceivingly dangerous game against Arkansas and the SEC championship game just to stay undefeated. Ohio State still has to beat the teams 3rd (Illinois) and 2nd (Michigan) in the Big Ten.

If I had to guess, I'd say the national championship would be Oregon vs. LSU. I just don't see Ohio State winning out. And I don't think Kansas can get there, even if they are undefeated, unless 3 of OSU, Oregon, LSU, and West Virginia lose between now and the end of the season. We could conceivably leave the only undefeated BCS conference team out of the national championship game. How insane is that?

I've heard alot of people saying that Oregon should be #1 in the polls, but they haven't played a schedule nearly as hard as LSU's SEC filled schedule, and the fact that the only game that's LSU has lost went into 3 OTs with Kentucky. I'm so tired of hearing people say that the PAC-10 is now "THE CONFERENCE" in college football. The SEC is, and always will be the toughest conference in Division 1-A football. PERIOD.

Pac-10 has a few shit-throwing teams (Stanford, both Washington teams)

but I think the biggest factor between the two conferences is Consistency. This is probably the first year I actually watched more than 3 college football games (Oregon v. Oregon St. -- Oregon vs. Cal -- Oregon vs. USC) in a year but I've noticed that the Pac-10 has like...no consistency.

I guess what...3 or 4 years ago, Oregon was really strong with Clemmens sitting at QB but the ankle injury he suffered kinda screwed the Ducks. Last year Oregon St. had an amazingly strong program but now they kinda went to shit. Arizona St.? Didn't see them at all last year....were they even ranked?

I don't know HOW consistent the SEC has been but it seems from what I've heard (ESPN) they've said its a more consistent program.

Just look at the programs in the SEC and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, South Carolina, LSU, Auburn, Alabama, Arkansas, Vandy, Mississippi, and Mississippi State.

I mean, I don't really see Miss State, Miss, or Vandy to be that big, but the rest of them pretty much speak for themself. I mean, if you go by last week's BCS poll, of the 25 teams, the SEC has 7.

I'm just saying... :P

I don't know that anyone is making the argument right now that the Pac-10 is better. Sure, earlier in the season, but some teams have fallen off the radar (then again, everyone seems to notice Cal's demise more than South Carolina's).

Oregon and LSU are comparable. Hell, sure, you can say the SEC is better, but, then again Oregon isn't just squeaking by in all its games like LSU is (and when you watch both teams, Oregon actually does look better). Oregon's one loss came when the ball was about half an inch from being a touchdown, and they only have one other win (to USC) that was even within a touchdown.

Plus, look at your list. The first two teams you listed, the teams with the best records in the SEC East, LSU doesn't even have to play in the regular season. To win the Pac-10 you play every single Pac-10 team.

At any rate, the Pac-10 is head and shoulders above everyone in college basketball this year. :P

It feels that ever since the Oregon St. fiasco with Cal, its like every time they're second guessing themselves now. You'd expect them to bounce back against Oregon St because the Oregon St. I saw at Cal and all the other OSU games...the Cal game was a completely different team.

While LSU has had some close calls they've all been to big name teams, and we've still pulled away each time. Here's how LSU stacks up against some no-namers:

Mississippi State: 45-0
VA Tech (who isn't even a no-name): 48-7
Middle Tennessee: 44-0
Tulane: 34-9
Louisiana Tech: 58-10

You can't tell me LSU doesn't blow out the not so decent teams like Oregon does. Also, LSU's one loss came in triple over time to a ranked opponent on the road.

What LSU does have to do, however, is play the best team in the SEC East in the SEC Championship game via Georgia or Tennessee. Just add one more ranked opponent to our already beefy schedule. We play everyone in our division and a few from the West, including the defending 2006 National Champions the Florida Gators with, at the time, Heisman hopeful Tim Tebow.

At any rate, should the stars align, this whole debate shall be settled in the BCS Championship game with LSU vs. Oregon. (We would have liked to take on USC to finally silence them, but apparently they fell off their horse, and since Oregon looks like it'll represent the PAC-10 this year, we'll take them)

You realize, of course, that Oregon hasn't played a single team worse than Tulane, Middle Tennessee, and Louisiana Tech. I bet they'd be happy having 3 such gimmes on their schedule. Oregon's non-conference schedule was the 3rd best team in the WAC, the 3rd best team in Conference USA, and Michigan in Ann Arbor.



Anyway, so, here is an interesting little BCS wrinkle. Right now, it is nearly impossible to fill all the spots.

LSU (BCS #1) goes to the NCG #1.
Oregon (BCS #2) goes to the NCG #2.
Ohio State (Big Ten champ) automatic Rose #1.
Virginia Tech (ACC champ) automatic Orange #1.
Kansas (Big-12 champ) automatic Fiesta #1.
Oklahoma (At-Large #1) replaces LSU as Sugar #1.
Arizona State (At-Large #2) replaces Oregon as Rose #2.
West Virginia (Big East champ) selected as Orange #2.

At this point, we have 2 spots left. The two most important things here is that at-large teams must be in the top 14 and no conference can have 3 or more teams. In my scenario above, this means Missouri, Texas, and USC are eliminated from consideration.

Left for the 3 spots: Georgia, Florida, Virginia

So we assume Fiesta takes Georgia or Florida (the other being eliminated as a 3rd SEC team) and Sugar takes Virginia. Virginia is the very last team eligible for an at-large berth.

#15 right now is Clemson, and if Clemson were to switch places with Virginia, there would be no team eligible for the final Sugar Bowl slot. There is absolutely nothing in the BCS rules that governs a scenario on what to do if there aren't enough eligible at-large teams.

Look for either Hawaii or Boise State to fill that final hypothetical spot. By the end of the season, one or the other will end up in the top 14.

Yes, I know, everyone has fluff games. I said that both LSU and Oregon blew out these teams. I was just saying in response to "Oregon isn't just squeaking by in all its games like LSU is." The games LSU had to squeak out of were all against tough ranked opponents, including a very special game called the Saban Bowl down in Tuscaloosa which was accompanied by a lot of emotion. The games Oregon played against ranked teams, well they didn't blow them out so to speak.

That being said, LSU has been playing sloppy, and needs to take control, hold control, and stop with the penalties. Both Oregon and LSU match up well and it'll be a good BCS NCG (fingers crossed). Also while the NCG is supposed to be at a "neutral site" New Orleans really isn't very neutral. 2003 anyone?

I fail to see how that qualifies as the gayest National Championship. WVU has been screwed over plenty of times in the BCS rankings, they finally got some love on Sunday when they were announced #3. Hey, they might not even be in National Championship if they don't win tomorrow. UConn is pretty tough. At that point, Ohio State would be right back in it...which would suck pretty hard.

Kansas, unless they lose tomorrow, will definitely go up to #1. They're going to have a tough time against Missouri tomorrow. That match is definitely up in the air. Also, doesn't the winner of this game have to face Oklahoma? What if both teams end up losing, one tomorrow and the other next week against Oklahoma? Again, Ohio State would be right back in it.

If there's anyone I feel sorry for in this whole ordeal, it's Hawaii. 10-0 and they're only ranked #15. They should be up much higher than that, at least in the top 5.

LSU lost to two very good SEC teams in triple overtime. One was on the road to a team that was 5-1 and playing some of the best football in the country up to that point. The other was to a team that probably has the best football player in college on it.

Ohio State lost to an average Illinois team at home. OSU doesn't have a single noteworthy victory on its entire schedule. It walked through the easiest BCS conference, and the only reason they would move up is because they didn't have an opportunity to lose a game this week. Why should OSU move up because the team above them lost? Who is to say that if OSU had a game scheduled in the last two weeks of the season, it wouldn't lose? LSU still might have to play another Top 10 BCS team (they beat the living shit out of the one they faced this year already, Virginia Tech).

If you're going to start looking at who lost to whom, you have to look at the entire schedule. I'd say every team in the BCS Top 10 would go 11-1 with OSU's schedule, and half of them probably would have gone 12-0.


Also, this is only Hawaii's 2nd game against a team with a winning record...and the other one is 6-5. If they wanted to be in the BCS like Boise State was last year, they should have played someone other than 1-11 Northern Colorado, 2-9 UNLV, 4-7 Washington, and a I-AA team that is 5-6.

I took a look at OSU's schedule and compared it to Hawaii's. Damn, is this Hawaii's first game against a ranked team? Ohio State's was a little tougher but all 4 of the ranked teams they took on were between ranks 21-25.

I was trying to stay away from who was playing who, but who's to say that the people who vote in the rankings aren't doing the same thing?

A lot of talk on ESPN though is that either Kansas, VT, LSU or USC will jump Georgia, and with the BCS...ya never know.

Not being a college football fan, I can't help but laugh at what has happened with the BCS in the last 5 years. Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong, short of every team losing 6 and every team winning 6.

I can understand why they'd want to hang onto the current bowl format (the fuckin' money, dood) but it's a failed system and:

• 81.2% of 206,420 voters on ESPN.com say the best two teams won't be playing in the national championship (which I disagree with but shows you the absolute pessimism fans have with the system),
• 85.5% of voters say there should be a playoff,
• 79.8% of voters don't think it would diminish the regular season at all,
• 66.4% of voters don't think the non-playoff bowl games would be any less important (and we all know they're not important to begin with, since they never have anything to do with deciding the national championship),
• 63.7% of voters think a college football playoff would be more exciting than March Madness (which is very astute, IMO), and
• 58.8% of voters call the current situation a "joke and an embarassment".

Unfortunately, I don't think a playoff will happen anytime soon. Like I said, there's big money in corporations having fans thinking their game is important and I don't think that same sort of thing translates well into a 4-or-so-game playoff.

Pitt's defense, and especially their tackling, was superb. If it hadn't been for a few very questionable calls on offense, this game wouldn't even have been close. Don't be so quick to dismiss this as a complete failure on the part of WVU. Pittsburgh put up their best game of the season at just the right time.

The Bowl system is ingrained in the history and mentality of Div-I College football. It's not going away. A playoff will not happen, period.

What NEEDS to happen is that the 'Championship Game' needs to be abolished. Send all the conference champions and top-ranked teams to the top bowls and such, and if you REALLY need a National Champion, go back to the old system of the top-ranked one in the AP poll once everything's said and done.

But that's the problem. We need, like 80% of people on ESPN.com need a national champion. And the system you are saying we should go back to didn't accomplish that. This system doesn't accomplish that.

There is no bigger sport in the world that doesn't crown its champion through a playoff. Hell, I can't think of a single head-to-head sport that doesn't do playoffs, except maybe Chess.

Just because it is ingrained doesn't mean the people who want the bowls aren't morons.

Will I watch Georgia/Hawaii this year? Probably, but I'm not going to go out of my way. I watched the 2nd half of Boise State/Oklahoma last year, but really only because I had nothing better to do. I'm glad I did, but chances are it turns out more like Utah/Pittsburgh. Two teams no one cares about and one blowing the shit out of the other. But I missed the Rose Bowl last year...a friend of mine was in town and we went for a walk with my dogs.

But I would watch all seven games in a playoff -- I would clear my schedule.

Damn...I would definitely watch that if only to see WVU beat the hell out of LSU. The other games would be pretty exciting too. Unfortunately, that just seems short of a good playoff. Having just an 8 team playoff out of 100-some teams just seems short...it also says "Screw you" to #9 and #10. Hell, it's a "screw you" to those who are 9-25...like the BCS rankings don't matter to those who are under #8 (and actually, they're kind of like that now). Anyway, I still believe in 32 because that way you get your top 25 from the BCS (which would actually matter for all teams in there) plus an additional 7 who aren't in there. How would you go about picking the other 7 teams? I haven't thought that far ahead yet.

So you're suggesting they run a 6 week playoffs? That's absurd for a number of reasons (college athletes playing 18 games, season running way too long, etc.), but over the course of a season, while it may be hard to identify who the top 5 teams are, it's pretty likely that the BCS will generally get the top 10 right. Sure #9 and #10 would be left out of this, but someone always is. They could have bowls for teams that didn't make it into the playoffs, but football is not the same as college basketball. There is no way a tournament that large would work. Of course it's very unlikely the current bowl system will change anytime soon, regardless of how absurd the final results are.

Michigan just put massive amounts of pressure on Tebow...it was really interesting to watch.

I remember Oklahoma trying to get out of playing WVU in the Fiesta Bowl...like the Mountaineers weren't worth their time or something. I kept hearing that the Sooners were gonna kill WVU. It's unreal that it was the other way around and after what happened with WVU, I'm glad for them.

Well I'm still baffled by the Sooners.

An onside kick with like...8 minutes left in the 3rd quarter as well as two attempts at a 2-point conversion in the 3rd quarter.

I guess they thought WVU would be caught off guard by that. It's like the announcers said: "When it works, it's a great play...when it doesn't work, it's a horrible play." or something to that extent. Another factor was penalties, that also killed the Sooners.

Tonight's the Orange Bowl, and honestly I think it's up for grabs at this point.

I liked what the announcers said during the times they were doing it.

"What are they doing? An Onside kick now?"

Alright heres my prediction for the VT - KU game

VT over KU 38 to 21

Unbelievable...Virginia Tech at least managed to pull off a touchdown at the end of the half, but KU is taking it to them. 17-7 at the half, with Kansas leading.

At least this one was close. It really did get interesting in the 2nd half. Did you see the Kansas sideline? They couldn't get close to the coach to dump the ice water on him because of the staff...LOL, better luck next time.

Boo, I wanted VT to win. Oh, well. Kansas did a bang-up job. I was kinda ticked at the commentators when Kansas was up 17-0 and they're all "Kansas is going to really have to pick it up if they want to stand a chance against Virginia Tech tonight." Um...hi. Who's up by 17? Yeah.

I'm also ticked because I might have to miss the OSU-LSU game on Monday. I'll have to figure out a way to weasel out of my other commitment....

I got home late and turned the game on to see LSU down 10-0. Now they're up 17-10 and about to go up another touchdown. I am pretty much sitting here wondering how the hell they gave up any points at all. All I have seen is them dominating in much the same way that one would expect to see an SEC team dominate a Big 10 team.

Well, the game is all but over at this point; 38-24 LSU with about a minute to go. At least OSU didn't give up. I mean it must be discouraging to play an SEC team in the title game, but they didn't lie down and take a beating, which I respect.

Lots of people do, but it won't be.

5 BCS bowls, 4 routs. Worst bowl season ever.

It was such a weak season and an even weaker bowl season. Hopefully next year we'll have a Pac-10 team against an SEC team in the national championship game. Obviously, none of the other conferences can match up to the SEC.

That'd definitely be a lot more intriguing. I actually felt really bad for Illinois in the Rose Bowl. Yeah it was good for them that they got to play in the Rose Bowl, but their faces were just hard to look at without feeling some pity.

I think that next year, Georgia will be the team to beat in the SEC, if not the entire nation.

LSU did not deserve to be in that championship game in the first place. There were more deserving teams that should've been in there rather than those cocky bastards. Now I have to hope that New England doesn't win the whole thing in the NFL or else this will have been a bad year for football as far as championships go. Georgia, Kansas, or VA Tech would've been much better choices.

I just read the article above and while I still think an 8-playoff game is too short, the UGA president has the right frame of mind. People were complaining about my idea of 32 teams as it was taxing to the college players...thus, you shorten the amount of games in a season. His plan however, calls for a shortening of the season and the extension of playoffs by 2 more weeks...and who doesn't want more college football playoffs? Even LSU's coach is in agreement so I have to at least give him props for that.

Now when the hell do the contracts that govern the BCS expire?

I'd have rather seen Missouri in the BCS Championship game. That Missouri vs Florida game was just amazing to watch.

I believe the BCS contracts are renewed every 4 years, but the Rose Bowl has the Pac-10 and Big Ten (and ABC) wrapped up through 2014.

Didn't they suggest naming the playoff matchups as different bowls so they could still have the bowl games? If that's the case, then there's the way around the Rose Bowl.
