Pokémon D/P Little Cup Tournament

Aka, the Sunny Park Tournament!
Entry to this tourney is currently: CLOSED
Quite possibly the easiest pokemon battle you'll ever get to play in. Or not.

The rules for this tournament are simple:
- Only Pokemon at level 5 and below are allowed to enter.
- Pokemon must have a evolution form (like Bulbasaur or Pichu.)
- Pokemon must be at their lowest evolutionary form (This means Pikachu isn't allowed since Pichu is actually the lowest evolutionary form.)
- You are allowed six Pokemon in your roster. Battles themselves will be done as double battles with each player using four out of their six.
- Each Pokemon in your roster must be different! (this mean you can't have a whole team of Totodiles!)
- Each of your Pokemon must have a different hold item (or none.)
- And lastly, all fixed damage moves are banned! This means no Sonicbooms or Dragon Raging folks.
To enter just post in here or PM me saying you want in. It also wouldn't hurt to tell me when it's best for you to play. Also, you do not need to PM me your team! I think I can trust you guys enough to follow the above rules. If you have a question about a certain rule just ask!

Tournament format will be done in Single Elimination~ Best two of three battles. Final round will be best three of five. You are allowed to switch your active team in between each battle, hold items included!

I'll leave the sign ups open until the 6th of September. That should give me enough time to setup and then we can start playing by Friday.

Chaotic Aug 25, 2007 07:32 PM

I'm in. I'll inform anyone ahead of time if I can't make a battle according to time or whatever since I won't have access to a PC from the 4th to the 6th of September.

Kairyu Aug 25, 2007 07:54 PM

I really hope the tournament won't stretch past Sunday. Monday at the latest. With single elimination everyone involved will be playing their rounds at once. I hope :)

As I said before, as long as everyone is here and ready (it's not difficult to collect six level 5 pokemon.) I'm sure the tournament can be wrapped up within a day~ possibly two.

Chaotic Aug 25, 2007 08:02 PM

Hopefully. :)

Now I just gotta get my team straightened out and come up with witty nicknames. :)

Freelance Aug 26, 2007 07:16 AM

I'm in. Gotta check Serebii and figure out what team to use. Wheee.

Identity Crisis Aug 26, 2007 02:43 PM

I'll be in on this tourney action.

Breeding one more new team member is almost complete! =o

^-^ Aug 26, 2007 05:57 PM

I'm in.

Kairyu Aug 28, 2007 09:20 PM

Cool, thanks for joining up again =D

Do you guys think you'll need more time? I can push back the start date another week if it'll entice more newcomers to sign up. I just don't want the tournament playing itself to drag on for two weeks straight.

Freelance Aug 28, 2007 09:37 PM

I need more time to get my remaining members set up with the right moves and such. I really don't think I can finish by Friday, but I should definitely be done by next week.

^-^ Aug 28, 2007 09:39 PM

I just need to get one more.

Identity Crisis Aug 28, 2007 09:50 PM

I just finished breeding my last member today. It's kind of lame compared to the rest, but I really don't feel like chain breeding again. :(

I'll be up for any date. I'm in no hurry to play Little Cup matches.

^-^ Aug 29, 2007 07:32 PM

Do you consider a dual type as one, or both?

So for example, psychic/flying would count as both a psychic and flying pokemon, so then I wouldn't be able to use a different flying pokemon and a different psychic pokemon?

Identity Crisis Aug 29, 2007 08:00 PM

I don't think typing was what Kairyu had in mind when he was talking about different Pokemon. I'm pretty sure he meant that no strict duplicates are allowed (like 4 Bidoof on the same team).

At least I'm hoping that's what Kairyu meant. I'm screwed if we're not allowed to have Pokemon that share a type on the same team.

^-^ Aug 29, 2007 08:09 PM

Yeah, it leaves me with only 5 instead of six.

Chaotic Aug 29, 2007 08:39 PM

I have a question.

Although I've never tried, would Phione qualify for this tournament?

Identity Crisis Aug 29, 2007 08:48 PM

Phione can't evolve, so I'm guessing it isn't allowed.

Kairyu Aug 29, 2007 09:21 PM

Hm, sounds like we need more time to prep and tinker. I'll go ahead and extend the entry for this tournament by exactly one week :).

Typing does not matter. You can have a whole team of water types if you wish.
Just remember that every pokemon on your team is not the same species!

From what I see the pokemon itself does not evolve into Manaphy. Rather it is a one-way devolution when breeding Manaphy with Ditto.
Sorry to say it cannot be used in this tournament.

Chaotic Aug 29, 2007 10:29 PM

Oh, poo.

That means I have to look for another Water Pokemon.

^-^ Aug 30, 2007 07:44 AM

Thanks for the clarification.

I just wish I could use my Smeargle, lol.

Kairyu Sep 5, 2007 01:07 AM

Just thought I bump this thread and remind everyone that the tournament is still on for this Friday, September 7th. Please try to be available on that day!

If any of you need lv.1 pokemon or just a suggestion on a team to use don't hesitate to ask!

Chaotic Sep 6, 2007 11:02 AM

Kairyu, if we're done with our teams, do you want us to send you the rosters like we did with the last tournament?

Kairyu Sep 6, 2007 05:44 PM

Nah, I don't think it's necessary. If you're unsure on your team being illegal in some way maybe then you should PM me a roster for review. It would be embarrassing to catch someone using a Smeargle or Pikachu in this tournament :tpg:.

^-^ Sep 6, 2007 07:45 PM

Hey, if only Smeargle... ;_;

Kairyu Sep 7, 2007 03:35 AM

Just in case I'm running late tomorrow I'll go ahead and post the bracket riiiiight now. You can post about your victory and or horror stories in this thread. I will then update the bracket pic accordingly. Good luck everyone!
And uh sorry about that random sketches, boredom does that to me.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...t01_round1.gif

Yes, that means you can start now :).

^-^ Sep 7, 2007 12:24 PM

I skip again? oh well~

Identity Crisis Sep 7, 2007 12:58 PM

Wow, there aren't many matches I get to play in with my specifically designed Pokemon.

After the tournament is over, would anybody be interested in playing a few exhibition Sunny Park matches? It seems kind of a waste that I'd only be able to use my newfound team for one to two rounds.

Kairyu Sep 7, 2007 03:26 PM

Someone had to get a bye. So I might as well give it to the guy that got 1st place in the last tournament =p

Sure, want to play on PBR? =o

Well I thought about what you said and maybe what I could do is turn it in into a double-elimination tournament. Basically everyone has two chances to make it through the tournament (for example.) It would be easy to retro fit into the current tournament since there are only five of us.

Chaotic Sep 7, 2007 03:34 PM

Oh, blah. I lost my first round match to Crisis... Again. >.<

I wouldn't mind a double elimination.... Gives me some hope in this tournament again.

Alright xD
Consider it a done deal. I'll update the bracket layout as soon as I get my match in with Wolf. She should be back from work in a few more hours.

Additional Spam:
Sorry for my lateness. That was a long battle I had against Wolf. But they were good matches :).

Anyway I updated the bracket layout. It looks kinda intimidating now xD. Aside from that we will all get to have a extra match, possibly more!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ket_round2.gif

Anyway the following matches are next:

Chaotic vs. Freelance Wolf
^-^ vs. Kairyu

^-^ Sep 7, 2007 06:48 PM

I'm on~

Kairyu Sep 7, 2007 07:52 PM

Hmm I guess I'm done with my match against ^-^. Bumpy start but all's good.
We only got to do one match though. I assumed he was short on time so I'll let it slide =o.

Anyway, matches that need to be done now are:
Chaotic vs. Freelance Wolf
Identity Crisis vs. Kairyu

edit: oops, spoke too soon, just found ^-^. Sorry about that IC!
Hopefully I'll win anyway :tpg:.

Additional Spam:
Alright, I'm taking the loss against ^-^ (bad connection + me running short on time.) We ended up with one win each but I can't stick around for the last one. So I'm giving him the win, his strategy is too much for my team anyway :gonk:.

I'll update the brackets in a bit.
edit again:

^-^ Sep 7, 2007 09:12 PM

Well, I'm on so >_>

Additional Spam:
I'm going to have to drop, I have to leave.

Identity Crisis Sep 7, 2007 10:25 PM

Those were some pretty good games, ^-^. You have some awesome Pokemon, especially, well, the Pokemon that KO'ed Eve (my Sneasel) multiple times. I left the description purposefully vague because I don't want to give away the central strategy to one of your Pokemon.

Anyway, sorry for the long wait, OLDK took a little while. >_>

From the tournament?

Considering the time I think Freelance Wolf and Chaotic are both sleeping by now. So I'll give them a chance to do their match tomorrow then I will play against the winner of that match~ and if you're still playing ^-^ you will battle against the winner of that match.

Also I have a shift to do tomorrow so I won't be available until 3 or 4pm (-10 hours at GMT.)

edit:
updated the bracket once more :)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...limination.gif

^-^ Sep 8, 2007 02:13 AM

Well, if that's the case then yeah I don't have to drop, but I thought it would've been finished by the time I got back so I was just thinking ahead.

So yeah, I guess I'm still in it.

Chaotic Sep 8, 2007 03:07 AM

Yeah, Wolf wasn't online last night... Hopefully, I'll be able to battle him a little later on in the afternoon or something.

^-^ Sep 8, 2007 07:33 PM

So... anything going on at all?

Kairyu Sep 8, 2007 09:51 PM

I just got back home from work annnnd I see no progress was made during my absence .___.
Has anyone seen or heard from Chaotic and Freelance Wolf today? If not, I'll just go ahead and bump myself and battle against ^-^ and clean up this tournament.

Identity Crisis Sep 8, 2007 09:54 PM

Chaotic's been posting around, but I'm not sure if Freelance Wolf is around.

Kairyu Sep 8, 2007 10:02 PM

Oh so I see =o.

Well then I'll let Chaotic advance and battle me instead. I can't keep waiting like this, sorry Wolf!

edit:
Never mind! Chaotic filled me in and did get a message from Wolf. Only thing is she decided to turn in a little early. So I'll give them one more day to finish their match then after that we're moving on!

Sorry about this ^-^ and IC! One more day couldn't hurt, right?

^-^ Sep 9, 2007 09:17 AM

I'll be gone until about 2:00PM CST.

Chaotic Sep 12, 2007 07:15 PM

So... What's going on with this tournament? Nothing has been updated for about 3 days. <_<

And Kai, if possible, could I withdraw my decision to withdraw from the tournament? I moved out of my dorm after a week, after not liking it, and I'll pretty much be home with a solid internet connection.

Kairyu Sep 12, 2007 07:43 PM

XD
I guess that's good news. Were the room mates that bad?

I sent a PM to the other two contenders a couple days ago. And got no response =x. I assumed the tourney just lost interest since we're lacking actual players and all. It's already Wednesday so I'll just say this tournament has officially kicked the bucket :(.

Though if you're up for a random match or two just drop me a PM.

Chaotic Sep 12, 2007 07:58 PM

I didn't think they were bad, I just didn't like the experience. What's the point of dorming when you're only 20 minutes away from home?

Either way, I'll probably PM you sometime this weekend for a level 100 battle or something. Wanna test out some of my new team members.

Identity Crisis Sep 12, 2007 08:10 PM

We were supposed to respond to the PM? I didn't answer because I wasn't sure what to provide as input toward the whole Kairyu vs. ^-^ match.

Kairyu Sep 12, 2007 08:27 PM

Only 20 minutes away from home? Huh, why pay through the nose to dorm when home is 20 minutes away? =p
Ah well, I guess I'd try it out if it meant actually moving out for one semester!

Alright then, playing guinea pig against new teams is never dull :tpg:.

Oh, I see. That's understandable, I guess I should've said something like, "reply back if you still want to play" My bad D:

Yeah, ^-^ didn't give me any word if he was going to do the 2nd elimination match. But like I said I assumed the party lost interest.

Identity Crisis Sep 12, 2007 08:31 PM

I still had interest in the tourney, but I guess I should've PM'ed you about why there's been no progress over the past few days. I noticed the lack of updates, but lethargy must've gotten the better of me.

If you want, I'd still like to face off against you in PBR with our Little Cup teams. =o

Kairyu Sep 12, 2007 08:48 PM

Oh yeah, sure! I'm up for some matches.
We can inadvertently see who the little cup winner is =p.

It's all about the experience, I guess. My brother convinced me to dorm, and his best friend just so happened to be my RA also.

But even after that, I couldn't really stand the dorms. <_<

He's the one who wants out of the house, I'm the one who wants in.

Just to make sure this isn't designated as some spam post, any ideas for the next tournament? Another level 100 tournament or something? Type Grab-Bag? Team Registration and you choose your opponents teams?

Hmm...? :tpg:

^-^ Sep 13, 2007 12:08 PM

Sorry, I've been around, but I haven't had enough time to actually sit down and play anything.

Hmm...? :tpg:

I really like the idea of using a mixture of everyone's teams =p.
The only fast way I can think of making a tournament like this work is to have a person with a AR make the pokemon we need. That way all the transferring would only have to be done once for each player. No crazy stats or maxed out IVs or anything just a 'copy' of all the registered teams. If that's possible.

Not sure what you mean by Type Grab-Bag. Do I randomly assign a type/theme to each player and hope for the best? Or perhaps to each pokemon in a player's team? This is the first time I've heard of it. Can you elaborate more on it?

I thought about simply doing a lv.100 Under-Used tournament with the standard clauses and rules. But that might be a lot of training for some of us that don't have many alternate pokes.

Don't worry about it. I sorta saw this coming when very little progress was made after Saturday =p.
We all have School, Work or both to do. So I don't expect this get-together be a high priority responsibility or anything.

Chaotic Sep 13, 2007 04:21 PM

Oh no, I just made that up on the spot, but it's exactly as you were thinking. We'd pick a number that's associated with a type, whatever we get, we can only use that type, but to save ourselves a little, we can have dual types of the different kind.

Well, I could do something more ridiculous concerning the next tournament... Considering the fact I could exploit the Battle Frontier Glitch to steal Pokemon from it, I could take a decent amount of Pokemon and put them up for rental (or keep them for all I care...). You'd choose a 3-4 man team to run with the whole tournament.

Since it's Pokemon Emerald that I'm taking most of these Pokemon from, I guess we can call this the Hoenn Rental Tournament? I don't mind spending the next hour of my life to clone Pokemon for everyone. I just list a name of 20 Pokemon with natures, and you choose which three or four you want (depending what you run with). PM me with what you want, I'll clone the Pokemon, and then we can arrange a time to trade for them.

They'll all be at Level 100 though... The stats aren't at the top of the game, but they're still pretty good.

If anyone agrees to this, I'll be happy to do it.
