What Cellular Telephone (Mobile) do you own?

I recently had to replace my old Nokia 3100 (which I got from a friend because my old phone prior broke). So I bought a new Motorola V3 Razor for $100. It's pretty sweet - I love all the features :) I just need a usb cable, and I'll be able to hook it up to my computer! and I'll get a wireless headset too - it's pretty sweet.

http://www.mercadolibre.com.mx/org-i...59036_9980.jpg

I use my cellphone alot, mainly because I'm out of the house. It's great to be able to reach people when you're on the road (or in the air). I was without a phone for a day before I got my new one, and I was going nuts - most of my day revolves around my phone, from finding out about our current teacher's strike, to trying to secure a plane for my flight to erie tomorrow.

So, what phone do you choose to give you brain cancer?

I poked it and it made a sad sound Mar 20, 2006 02:10 PM

http://www.cellulargadget.com/pic/nokia3220.jpg
Nokia 3220.

I demanded it for free when I resigned my two year contract with TMobile. They were really STUBBORN about it, but sometimes, just to make people shut the fuck up when they're trying to close at 9pm, they'll give you what you demand.

I am not really picky about my phone, to be honest. So long as it gets the job done, I don't need fancy features.

Eleo Mar 20, 2006 02:16 PM

Mine's an old Motorola C650. It looks newer and more trendy than it is.
http://img.ferra.ru/catalog/img/items/22022_00.jpg
But since I refuse to sign another contract of any kind for service, I don't think I'll be getting a new phone for a long time now, since phones are pretty expensive to buy without signing a contract.

I luv collapsible cellphones ='D The only thing that sucks a bit that 1) it doesn't have Bluetooth, 2) there's only 800 kB of free memory O_O

EDIT: Tawnee Stoner, Thats a cool cover ^_^ but all i could notice was your dirty keyboard, mine's almost there too.

It can run Doom RPG and Zuma rather nicely, so that's tight. The web browser is pretty suck, but at least I can visit Maddox's website with it. The camera is usable, and has come in handy on multiple occasions, but I can't speak of the quality. The worst part about this phone is that it's a pain to get a MIDI ringtone of my choice on here; I need a straight USB cable and BitPim just to do this. Overall, however, it's a great phone.

currently using a sony ericsson w800i mainly to piss of my sister since she wants it so badly and the fact i needed to get a contract phone to make calls with while away at uni

T-Mobile Razr V3 (I'm sure everyone knows what a Razr is. Everyone and their mother has a Razr now..)

Yeah, because I'm cheap like that. Either way, I got the minutes and everything else for free, so I shouldn't be complaining.

Killy Mar 20, 2006 04:19 PM

I have a Sony Ericsson T105. It's got the most basic features and I don't really need more than that. Unfortunately this model is overwhelmed with all sorts of software bugs and the battery is extremely low-lifed. Also, about 95% of the time, I get no signal at all.

http://sifyimg.speedera.net/sify.com...ig/se_T105.jpg

silvervalkyrie Mar 20, 2006 04:34 PM

I've got a Black V3 Razr. But it's going bye-bye next month for a Razr V3i or a ROKR E2.

I remember when the Razr was exclusive...but like the other posts put, everyone and their mother has one now.

A Nokia 3588i, AKA phone that came with my plan a year and a half ago, as can be seen below:

http://i5.ebayimg.com/03/c/03/07/c5/46_9.JPG

It's better than my first phone, but relatively simplistic. I'm too cheap/don't care about getting a new one.

Cetra Mar 20, 2006 04:49 PM

I got a bit tired of standard flip phones but I also didn't really like the idea of open faced keys on a phone. Perfect solution:

I have a highly modded and unbraded Motorola V3 Black. It's about a year old and pretty much scratched and fucked now... but I just love the mods I did to it so I'm not about to change it.

Oh, and locke, you might want to look into motomodders... they are a bunch of V3 hackers. Lots of neat shit you can do with a V3.

XtremeDJW Mar 20, 2006 05:23 PM

A Nokia 6600. Its taken a bit of a battering but I can't complain because it still works like new.

Samsung T-100. I got mine 4 years ago. I like how even today it's still a decent phone compared to some of the crap the companies are churning out. About a year after I got it I flashed the Firmware and made it a T-108 :D

I also had a little job done to it that made the aerial about 1/4 of it's original size, it's only a stub now, yet my reception is unchanged.

nazpyro Mar 21, 2006 12:26 AM

I have the Virgin Mobile (Kyocera) Slider V5. It was my first cell phone, which I got back in 2004 (Yeah, I was pretty late in getting a phone). It has since been abused, but I still use it. It's not all ghetto'd out. It's been dropped so many times the battery's max life is about half of what it used to be. The battery pack itself doesn't stay latched into the phone anymore, so I keep it in the holder. However, the holster has also got a tear in it, so I patched it up using medical tape. Computer engineering in da house.

http://blog.sanemonkey.com/images/phone-back.jpghttp://blog.sanemonkey.com/images/phone-close.jpghttp://blog.sanemonkey.com/images/phone-open.jpg

I'll get a new one when this thing dies permanently on me.

DeLorean Mar 21, 2006 01:01 AM

I don't use cell phones, I think they're rude. I hate talking to someone when their cell phone goes off and I have to act like im not uncomfortable staring off into space while im waiting for them to come back. I have to admit they are damn useful, and I'll have to break my pride and get one eventually.

Summonmaster Mar 21, 2006 02:09 AM

I have the Samsung model that flips the top portion around at a 180 degree angle horizontally (around a y axis I guess), so that you can fold it down and take pictures with a smaller more compact grip, as well as show off the screen.

Arkhangelsk Mar 21, 2006 02:19 AM

Bah, a crappy Samsung c207:
http://img.phonescoop.com/img/p/245/574_1.jpg
It only plays .mmf ringtones and the internet is screwy, but hey -- it was free. And I got two of them, one for my mom and one for me. So I suppose I shouldn't bitch about it.

Motorola v600. I got it 3 years ago so it's dated as hell but it has camera, bluetooth and MP3 ringtones so I'm all set. It works fairly well all around except the volume on receiving calls are a bit low even at the highest volume, but it's not so bad that I haven't been living with it. It's starting to go a bit wonky on me, I may have to replace it soon but I'm going to try to see if it can last me the duration of my college career.

Paco Mar 21, 2006 03:08 AM

I had this phone for well over a year:

http://helpix.ru/news/200410/251032/e315.jpg

But I got rid of it, mainly because I bought it for my now-kicked-to-the-curb exGF and using it still has a somewhat bitter taste in my mouth. So before I took off from Cali, I had my friend Ahmad hook me up with this little number:

http://t-mobile.com/images/products/...09/250x270.jpg

I fucking <3 this phone. It has a massive screen, Bluetooth and it's a slider. I gotta say: I love the slider more than I ever did the flip-phone format. It's less obtrusive and it leaves more room for a screen.

Eleo Mar 21, 2006 03:14 AM

I find flip phones to be meh. They all look the same, with a few exceptions like the once-was-trendy RAZR. I'd sooner get a slide phone, but honestly candy bar phones are my favorite.

I'm just looking at all the flips in this thread, and I see like no major style difference between them. I'm not the phone fashion police or anything, but don't you guys want something a little more unique? Or perhaps you don't care at all, which is fine too.

JasonTerminator Mar 21, 2006 03:23 AM

I have a Razer V3, but it's not cool anymore since EVERYBODY has one of these fucking things.

Goddammit, my dad AND his girfriend have them.

I wish I could get this awesome Jap phone. It has a nicer digital camera than my digital camera.

Hmm... well let's see here. I currently own quite a few cell phones.
My main phone that I use is a Nokia 6230:

The phone that I "have" to use at work, a Samsung D357:

http://onlinestorez.cingular.com/cel...msung_d357.jpg

My personal use phone which just about nobody has the number to, Black RAZR. But you all know how that looks like.

I'm hoping to get either the new Samsung ZX-10 or the LG CU320. Both got the new UMTS system on Cingular. Gotta love the almost broadband speed on them.

I used to have a Motorola V551, but I gave that to my dad. He's beat it up quite bad already. ><

I wanted something unique (that no one in my area would have) and fit me (My favorite colors are Black and Red so much of my wardrobe are those colors) so I got the Black Razr last Summer. For about 3 months I was the only person in my area I ever saw with a Razr let alone a Black one. Then Cingular went all "Razr for 199 w/ contract!" and the rest is history.

I love it because I can make movies, listen to music, watch video clips, and use the net. The only one I don't do is the last because I don't wanna pay for it because im around the internet all day on my PC anyway. Don't fear. As long as the phone was manufactured within a year of your buying it you have a warranty with Motorola. I killed my Razr in September 05 and they replaced it under warranty.

So mod away!

julia Mar 21, 2006 12:07 PM

I'm a tad confused. If I've hacked it, I believe that voids the warranty, no?

silvervalkyrie Mar 21, 2006 12:18 PM

Technically, yes. But Motorola is pretty lax about it. I killed my Razr trying to get a test reflash to work. I called Motorola, told them EXACTLY what happened, and they said, "Ok. Just send it to us and we'll fix it. You should have the phone back in two weeks."

What's better is that Motorola couldn't fix my phone and instead sent me a NEW Razr (not refurbished) that still carries a one-year warranty.

Shinimegami Mar 21, 2006 12:21 PM

The specs for the v4 haven't been announced yet. Yes, it's suppose to have a "MP3 Player / IPod" thing going on like that "upgraded v3" but even that is meerly rumor. All the industry knows is that the v4 is due in Q3/Q4 of 2006

I've a Sony Ericsson S700i. It's a big-ass phone, a bit on the chunky side. To open the thing you've to flip it to the side.

For text messages, or writing down anything which requires me to use the number-pad I prefer my old Nokia. This is because this Ericsson model of mine has its number-keypad so ingrained into the model that it's a chore for me to type anything out. (Especially because I've naturally large fingers.)

As cool/extensible (storage-wise) as the phone is it can store only 100 text messages. Pathetic. The only redeeming feature of the phone is the camera, which does its job well in most situations except in those places that lack sufficient lighting.

Sounds a alot like the V3i. Which hasn't been released in the US but it available worldwide. From what I know the only other Razr-type phone in Motorola's queue is the HSDPA Razr (supposedly for Cingular) which is a revamped/upgraded version of the V3x.

But if there is a v4 I'd love to see pics/specs of it.

Yeah, my brother's girlfriend wanted the US version of the S700i, the S710a. I like the features on it but I HATE the shize of it combined with the swivel. I'm not a big fan of swivelers but I must admit that the S7x0 series is sexy.

God! That's such an awesome phone! I have a friend who had one before he ran it over with his car. Dumb motherfucker.

That phone is awesome! I bought my godson the W600i a month after his confirmation. At first he got a ROKR, but that thing was so full of bugs that it would crash all the time so we went with the Ericsson. :D

So would I. Apparently, theres a new LG phone due out this week or next week that will allow Cingular users the "push to talk" option like Nextel has. Expect that to go over big.

@ LeHah: Yeah, I was reading up on the new LG PTT phone for Cingular. They're PTT selection (2 phones right now) is paltry at best. Hopefully Motorola will throw something into the mix soon as well.

@ Enceph: The w600i would be nice for me except that whole big-bofy thing that all Ericssons weem to have. And the ROKR is possibly the ugliest, most worthless phone in existance. The SLVR does music phone better and the ROKR E2 will do it even better than the SLVR.

I got a Moto 710, only I hadn't done any mods to it. Good phone, but the camera is pure unadulterated garbage.

$99 from the kind folks at Verizon, especially when it was listed at the kiosk for $199.

Sanyo 2300, the only phone Sole Mobile uses. It's an allright phone, it's kinda bulky and seems pretty cheap, but it's actually pretty solid. Has speakerphone and that 10-4 walkie-talkie dealy, call display, free text-messaging, a bunch of stuff. It was only $79 (after rebate) and i gots pay as you go, so that's sweet.

I like the slider concept just because it is different. I'm most definitely intrigued by Encephalon's phone. Plus, I'm all about the Samsung. When I replace my current one, I'm definitely leaning towards this design. We'll see what's new by the end of the year as well.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Mar 23, 2006 08:38 AM

Mine's a Nokia 6280.

http://img.gsmarena.com/i/pics/nokia/no6280_01.jpg

I got it about a week after it came out as 3 were offering me an upgrade and basically, I'm an utter phone slut.

It's a rather nice phone I think. 2 megapixel camera, memory card, full 3G gubbins (Although it does the internet a bit slower than my old LG did), big old screen and all sorts of other fancy stuff. Also, given that it's a Nokia, it hardly ever crashes...

Edit: Not many Americans seem to have video phones here. Has it not caught on over there yet?

silvervalkyrie Mar 23, 2006 10:19 AM

That's because 3G networks are rare here in the United States Shin; only Verizon has a complete 3G network, Sprint has launched their's but it doesn't cover their entire coverage area, and Cingular just launched their 3G network in 10 cities with plans to have over 100 major cities covered by the end of 2006.

As such video calling isn't big in the United States; mostly American phone consumers just want something for text messaging, "cool" ringtones, and maybe a camera for those odd moments they want memories.

Maybe by 2007 we'll be into video calling and what not when 3G is pretty much everywhere but right now people just want cool.

Although Cingular plans to launch the US version of the 6280, the 6282, along with the N80 this year for their 3G UMTS Network. I know my brother is looking forward to the 6282 himself; he's a big Nokia fan.

squirrelishere Mar 23, 2006 12:21 PM

Actually, it's 16 cities for Cingular. And we're expecting to do video conferencing soon. We hear they're putting some last things together. Our Samsung rep said they are making us a Video conferencing phone. But knowing Cingular, they'll just postpone it even more and we'll see it later by the end of the year or something. At least our Samsung guy lets us in on some stuff.

As for Nokia, the 6282 is already causing a ruccus at my store at least. I'd like to get my hands on one. Also, our Nokia rep said a video conferencing phone is due soon for us as well. Can't wait for that.

I just love the 3G network. Speeds are very nice and love being able to talk and browse web at the same time. Plus, Opera Mini is improving, so that will be a big help for cell phones.

When I finally indulged myself into the Motorola world of cell phones I started off with the Motorola V180, which has become my current back up phone. I've had it for over a year and it serves its purpose as a phone and nothing more.

The Motorola v80 was my chirstmas present to myself. I'm currently having problems with it freezing and not turning on but I'm going to be replacing the flex cable eventually to see if I can remedy it. This phone gets a ton of comment. It swivels which was unique until Sony's s710a came out. It's got cool ringlights that are a neat feature to have when your in a loud place such as a bowling alley during cosmic bowling and want to kill some battery life by having your lights move to the music.

I'm currently trial running my friends' Motorola v551 to see if I like it enough to buy it off of him. It's full packed and awesome. The only thing I'm missing is the swivel and ringlights of my old v80.

I think the feature you're talking about is called "funlights" and the v551 DOES have them. You just have to enable them just like the Razr. Check out motorola.howardforums.com for more information or get up with me on AIM: keirikaze.

Here's my phone:

http://cache.vzw.com/images_b2c/phones/lg/sam_a850.jpg

It's a Samsung SCH-a850.

It's nothing earth shattering, but compared to the last phone I had (a really old kyocera that had no battery life whatesoever) this phone is awesome.

It has a 1.3 megapixel camera, the ability to play mp3s as ringtones(though it sounds kinda tinny so I decided not to), and some other stuff.

I'm not sure if Samsungs can be modded/hacked out at all, though. I'm also not sure if if it's USB compatible (in other words, if I can hook it up to my computer).

My dad ended up getting one of those new Razors. Unfortuantely, he has no idea how to do anything with it. Sigh.

SonicEchidna Mar 23, 2006 03:49 PM

Nokia 3510i

A few years old, but seeing as though I only use it occasionally, I find it's the perfect phone for me. It does what it says on the box.

Inforcer Mar 23, 2006 03:51 PM

I have the Motorola Razor V3c from Verizon. I love everything about it except one feature. They have disabled the bluetooth transfer portion of the phone. I can not send my own music or pics to it via bluetooth. I have to download them all and pay verizon for it. Lame IMO.

I have also tried their Motorola tools to try to get around it. It won't let me send pics or music (ring tones) to my phone either.

Beside that. It is a great phone.

The thing is, while it may be able to use funlights.pat; when you see them compared to the V80 it is obvious which is superior. My phone is a very functional piece of shit, basically. It's not pretty; it's not ugly. It has a camera. I got it with my policy for 30 bucks total. There's nothing special about it. When it rings, it makes a fucking ringing sound, not some bastardization of a classical piece.

My question is, why the hell would you spend hundreds of dollars on a phone that does basically the same thing mine does, only it's thin and with pretty lights? And people wonder why the rest of the world laughs at Western Culture.

You're obviously looking in the wrong shops, dude.

Minion Mar 24, 2006 01:21 PM

I think mine does a lot of other stupid shit that I don't care about / have never used. Like, I can go shopping online with it or someshit.

squirrelishere Mar 24, 2006 10:21 PM

I got mine since I work for the company. I hardly use some stuff on my phone, but with the way the technology is going, they'll make you use that little thing you hardly use. I used to use a wired headset for my phone. But now they all break within a month. And since the Bluetooth earpieces have lasted me quite some time now, I use that now. $50 for an earpiece that will last me months is worth more than buying them little wired ones over and over again.

Plus, it doesn't help that many companies make their BASIC phones with cameras and whatnot. I know Cingular makes you get a data package to get phones cheaper, making you use your phone/feature. It's pros and cons. If you're really into just getting a basic answer/end phone, that's really hard nowadays.

Get a pre-paid phone. Most of the phones offered by pre-pay providers are bare-bones basic phones. Got a Nokia 1100 that way -- it does nothing but send and receive calls.

squirrelishere Mar 26, 2006 02:21 PM

True, but most pre-pay phones are "leftover" phones. The one model we got here they stopped making a few months ago. But it's still on prepaid. It's still not too good to go with the barest phone, since most likely it'll give you crap reception half the time. Spend a few dollars more and get a decent reception phone.

I had a 3588i, a phone that could double as a road flare (yep, it was that bright). The fact that it lit up like a Christmas tree did no favors for the battery time.

Also had a 5190, a phone that Superman himself could fling into orbit, watch it come back during reentry and still make a call from it.

I don't see why everyone likes the Razr. Like Jason said, everyone has them so that kinda sucks. But what I really don't like about them are the buttons and the size of the phone. The buttons are a little awkward to me and while the phone IS thin, it's just way too big. They made abig deal about it being really thin, but if it's really wide then what's the point?

Before "Everyone" had them it was a phone that was unique and very exclusive. Add to that it bucked the trend of thick, ugly clamshells. I don't mind the fact that it's wide; it fits in the "key" pocket of my skate jeans and that means the world to me - my v220 and every other phone fits but they bulge outward like a wierd bump. The Razr is damn near invisible in my pocket - and I like that too. Add the fact it's light and I barely know it's there unlike other cells.

Despite that I'll be the first to admit the feature set is a bit limited compared to ther phones. Then again most people seem to see the Razr today and consider it "not enough for the money" without realizing the phone is 2 yrs old and as such phones released recently (within the last 6~7 months +/-) should have better specs. The phone didn't really hit market mass in the US until Cingular's shock and awe marketing of the "Special Edition" Black Razr. But then again, I didn't get it because it was "the" phone - I got it because it fit me.

That's what got me. And that's why I still have it. If I wanted features at the cost of what I consider "portability" I'd get a PDA/smartphone.

Megaman X Mar 29, 2006 11:16 PM

I have the LG phone you get for free when you resign your contract with Cingular. I get MediaNet, Instant Messanging, and it is a camera phone. Much nicer than other phone I had.

I've always wondered about the NEC's, never tried one myself. How are they in general, do you have any experience? Aren't they kinda 3G-exclusive?

Nokia 6061
Not the best, but it gets the job done.

So my new Motorola RAZR V3x came today and so far I am LOVING IT :edgarrock:

lots of pics and stuff

I still haven't managed to re-encode any of my videos so that they're playable on the phone yet, but I probably will eventually. =D

Well technically wouldn't an N-Gage QD be better ?_? Heh, I personally dislike them, but if that's your thing, then go you =D

My phone is a Sony Ericsson T230 blue and silver and it's very basic. The camera sucks, it's hard not to take a picture and figure out what it is actually of. I only use the phone for basic purposes, and so it does the job for me. Has crashed on me a few times before though.

Mine is Nokia 6630 but I'm planning to swap it ang get some N-Series.

Fairly decent phone. Can't say much about it's durability though...8 months old and the camera doesn't work now. Hasn't even been dropped.

T-Mobile service, from my previous use, is horrible! My RAZR is great and it has good reception.

I actually just snagged myself a Motorola ROKR.

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...nk/ROKR-E1.jpg

I got it for free and having had it a week, I gotta say that it's probably the best Motorola phone I've ever had, but as an MP3 player (which is basically all it was really advertised to do) it's pretty horrible.

It takes forever (read: about 45 mins) to Autofill the phone on my G4 and the quality of the music is mediocre since iTunes insists on reducing the sound quality in order to fit more songs on the phone. This, of course, means nothing because even if you have a 512 mb TransFlash card in your phone (which I do have) it only lets you fit 100 songs on it, thus negating the purpose of having purchased said storage space.

Other than that, it's a pretty dope phone. Now if only I could get it to play music I import into it as ringtones, it would be even cooler. :p

Sony Ericsson W800i. Was buying it mainly to listen to music, but then i went ahead an bought an ipod too and it was already to late to return the phone.

Motorola V3 Razr...it seems that everyone has or had this phone at some point...but it's reliable....and pretty damn sexy if I might add hehe

I recently got a free cingular Razr for free, completely by accident.
I like it quite a bit, particularly the calendar; I haven't missed an appointment in a long time since using it.

This is my beastly beast phone. It doesn't have a camera or blue tooth but I don't mind seeing as I have no use for either. BUT I really love how it's pretty small and feels compact, The downside is the screen could be a bit bigger. Meh who cares, Doom RPG = Ownage.

To the people that have bought motorolas i commend u, they are long lasting phones. Though I have just traded mine in for a sony erricson w800i that is great. but please nobody buy it if u are looking for some decent software to transfer ur files because sony are abismal at creating software!!! just get a memory card reader and drag and drop otherwise u will experience alot of problems! otherwise...this phone is amazing looking and has amazing features including a great 2 megapixel night vision camera with extra options like panoramic shots and negative mode. hell this is just an amazing piece of tech. though still sony's software is appalling and should be shot in the back

I <3 My Mobile Phone!

This thread is dedicated to your Mobile Phones. I'm sure you all have or had one in your life. When was the time when father told you: Son/daughter it's time for you to get a Mobile Phone! What was the is like? Was it Nokia, Motorola or other?

For what do you use it? Talking, SMS only or camera and games? Do you treat it with care or just throw it every time you can. Our mobile phone tells a lot about our selves.

Nokia 6310i - it's what I have. It's quite old mobile with monochromatic screen but with many tools that new phones don't have like IR or Bluetooth. As for my ring tone I have simple *Ring Ring* cause all those Mono tunes are getting on my nerves.

galador Jul 14, 2006 03:08 PM

I have an ancient Sony Ericsson T226. I really don't remember how long I've had it, but it's been at least 3-4 years. I mainly use it for text messaging. For my ringtone, I usually have MIDI versions of random songs from the Final Fantasy Piano collections (I'm a nerd :D ). Right now, I have "Those Who Fight" from the FF7PC.

Going to merge this new thread with the old mobile phone one.

Actually, everyone in my family except for me has a cell phone. Ironically, there are a few spots where the nation-wide coverage doesn't work and it seems as though the county that I attend college is one of the only spots that it doesn't cover (but all the surrounding counties have it). Tracphones won't work in my region either. I can't remember their first cell phones, but I think the kind they have now are white Kyroceras.

Their phones have backgrounds, personalized ringtones that include actual recordings from bands, voicemail, and my siblings can take pictures with their cameras. My brother used to pay for sending pictures and text messages, but it became too expensive. On my dad's old cell phone, he could play games like "Snake" and the one were you can shoot meteors.
