General Touhou Discussion thread

hm.. since it is allowed here might as well start. :D

I'm quite sure the anime community are aware of a distinct game known as the Touhou game series. In the case that you don't have a blazing thing in hell what is:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Touhou

http://www.pooshlmer.com/touhouwiki/...hp/Touhou_Wiki
The above link is for those who want a little more indepth look on the actual characters rather than the game though there is an abundance of info about the game too. :D

Quote:

The Touhou Project (東方Project, Tōhō purojekuto?), also known as Toho Project or Project Shrine Maiden, is a series of curtain fire scrolling shooters made by Team Shanghai Alice. They are notable for being successful dojin soft because of their intricate bullet patterns, their greater focus on characters than most shooter games, and being a one-man project.
That pretty much sums it up for the general gist of it.

This thread is meant for the discussion, bragging rights scores, sharing replays and other miscellaneous things related to it.

Now, which game brought you folks to the touhou world?

Me it was Imperishable Night, the 7th one in its series. I was completely suprised at the difficulty of the game even on easy difficulty. And now I still can't clear extra modes. Maybe some of out fellow users can care to enlighten us on how to be a god.:tpg:

Sakabadger Aug 9, 2007 12:10 AM

I'm not interested in Touhou much for the games, but for the rampant fan mania surrounding the series. There's so much Touhou art and other doujin stuff floating everywhere it's actually hard to avoid seeing it. ZUN sure has done well for himself.

I have tried the games, though I have difficulty remembering the titles. Probably Perfect Cherry Blossom, Imperishible Night and Immaterial and Missing Power. The shmups were as crazy as I expected, and I kind of gave up on them since I didn't feel like investing the time to get used to the games. Maybe I just lack good motor control skills. IaMP was pretty slow for me, compared to traditional fighting games, so I didn't really have much of a good time with that.

But like I said, Touhou is pretty unavoidable now so I'll likely end up trying the series again. Maybe this time I'll be able to keep track of who all these billions of characters are and why Reimu's armpits are so alluring. :(

Wait, what. I thought Perfect Cherry Blossom was the 7th game.

Anyhow, I actually started with Embodiment of Scarlet Devil which still gives me a hard time to this day. I, like Saka, was not able to develop the motor skills needed to 1-CC normal mode on any of the games so far. I'd try it on easy mode, but won't because as we all know, easy mode is for elementary school kids.

Taco Aug 9, 2007 12:34 AM

Embodiment of Scarlet Devil is the only modern Windows Touhou game that I've simply been unable to 1CC. I started on it, but for some reason I always get my first game over during the Sakuya boss fight. Getting the 1CC on Phantasmagoria killed any enjoyment in that game as far as Single Player goes. The AI makes so many inhuman dodges that it's nothing but pure frustration. Playing against human opponents, though, is great.

I have yet to clear any extra stages though. I can get both Ran in PCB and the boss in Imperishable Night down to 2 life bars, but no such luck on actually beating them.

Also requesting this thread's name be changed to "touhou hijack lol"

CLOudkiller Aug 9, 2007 12:43 AM

Yknow its IS alot bigger than I thought. I had quite a substantial amount of images that I wasn't even aware it was touhou related.. >.>. Very prevalent. If you are interested in playing again I suggest Touhou 10: Mountain Of Faith, personally it seems to be much more forgiving in the bombing department.

Though you will lose one power-up for it. But hey as long as you got 1.00 power bomb if you feel the need!

As for Reimu's pits? Up till this day I still don't know why but this image can explain or at least give some odd reason.. >.>:

Bah.. I'll find it eventually..

@ Taco

Go clear Phantasm mode, no miss, no bomb, unfocused and I will. :D

@Zero

Don't worry I feel your pain too. ><, damn Sakuya, I ended up throwing my old keyboard against the wall at one point. And IN is indeed the 7th one in the series, Immaterial and Missing Power is 7.5, and 8 is Phanasmagora of Flower View, and then StB(Shoot the Bullet) is the 9th, then lastly Mountain of Faith the latest one. SWF is debated to be 9.5 though for some reason.

Sin Ansem Aug 9, 2007 01:00 AM

OH GOD THE GAMES ARE FREAKING HARD

But the series itself... freaking epic. I don't think I've ever seen such a completely broken (power wise) set of lolis in my life.

My favorite seems to be Mokou for some reason. Something about burning shit up entices me I suppose.

CLOudkiller Aug 9, 2007 01:06 AM

Heh, I see the phoenix in you.. :3 However if you take Mokou be prepared for a Hakutaku as well.

One who controls fate, check
One who can make you die, check
One who can control time, check
One who can alter history, check..

The list goes on and on.

ramoth Aug 9, 2007 01:31 AM

In before CHz.

The Touhou doujin you sent me Taco is absolutely hilarious. ITS MY LASER.

Here I just made a craptastic replay practice run on Stage 4 of PCB, feel free to laugh at any time.

We can upload attachments here right? >.>

Just for clarification, IN is the eighth of the series. PoFV is 9, PCB is 7, EoSD is 6, and Shoot the Bullet is 9.5. SWF is going to be 9.8. It's all on the wiki front page.

Lord Styphon Aug 10, 2007 07:49 PM

Title changed for great justice. This means you can make more Touhou-related threads with more specific topics despite the presence of this one. Threads are good.

Like Saka, it wasn't so much the games that got me interested, but the fan-created things. If there was one thing in particular, though, it probably would have been this flash, since it was what caused the explosion of interest in /a/, and the posting of artwork en masse. That led to my interest, and led me to downloading the Windows games myself, though I've yet to try them for various reasons.

CLOudkiller Aug 10, 2007 11:41 PM

Ah, Marisa Stole the Precious thing. Great choice to start the invasion, or rather more invasive things. Touhou Hijack, XD.

Funny thing Styphon, it was the game what led me to the fan-made things like this..
Not everyone will find it admiring but it netherless is quite amazing to a point, I don't mind getting me a touhou based design. :D

Elixir Aug 12, 2007 02:17 AM

I originally discovered touhou in early 2005, when I went on a spree of downloading.

I was sucked in by the massive bullet patterns. I was playing Mushihimesama at the time, and clearing that on a single credit was delayed due to these games popping up. I decided to work on Imperishable Night, and I've beaten it on Easy, Normal and EX.

I prefer Imperishable Night over PCB and EoSD. EoSD feels rather old, although it's the hardest out of all of them. PCB feels akin to IN, but still different. Also, considering that Yuyuko Saigyougi is my favourite character, I enjoy playing.

Note: Ghost team (Youmu/Yuyuko) is the best for scoring in IN.

My favourite enemies would definitely have to be Mokou, Patchouli and Reisen. They're great. I'm not really all that fond of Ran, China, or Wriggle.

I don't care all that much for the fan made stuff, but the music arranges are nice. I have about 9 gb of touhou music including basically everything; violin, punk rock, 8 bit, screamo, symphony, symphony rock, etc. Practically every genre has been covered by fans for touhou music. I'm also VERY fond of MoF's stage 2 music.

Also, the remixes of the IOSYS flashes have been done a million times on youtube/niconico, I'm so sick of them. It's like the remixes of the Lucky Star opening. Fun for the first month.. now.. ugh.

Right now I'm trying to get through EoSD's EX.

And.. what else? Oh, I recently bought the three danmaku touhou games: EoSD, PCB and IN:

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...ouhougames.jpg

And.. that's it, I guess.

zzeroparticle Aug 12, 2007 03:33 AM

I guess a good followup to all these replies would be to figure out what characters people like to play as for each of the games and to see if I'm picking poor choices if my goal is to just 1-CC 'em all on Normal mode.

EoSD: Always tended to use Marisa A on account of her speed and the strength of her shot when she's in focused mode. It feels like I take bosses down faster that way even if I have to take the additional step of maneuvering into position to actually hit the boss.

PCB: Tended to use Sakuya A because I'm a noob/lazy when it comes to aiming since my first priority is to just avoid the bullet swarms.

IN: Reimu/Yukari Yakumo (Illusionary Border Team) because... it feels like that's the easiest one for the purpose of clearing the game. I really can't say much more than that since I've found facing Marisa to be far easier than going up against Reimu.

Any suggestions on better character choices if I still plan to scrub it out with the vain hope of beating the games? Meanwhile, other people can put down the characters they enjoy using for the purposes of scoring/grazing and all that jazz.

Elixir Aug 12, 2007 03:59 AM

Use Reimu A for PCB. Sakuya's shot fails because you need to be a certain area for her to lock on, but Reimu does that everywhere.

CLOudkiller Aug 12, 2007 10:49 PM

Rather intriguging...

EosD: I play with Marisa A and B with this one. The B is weaker but makes up for with the awesome Master Spark Bomb.

PCB : Again with Marisa A and B. Same reason.

IN: Magic Team, Scarlet Team. I like Remilia's focus mode it allows a bit of ease since you dont have to focus dodging too much.

PoFV : I like using Aya for her Mini charge power. Quite Powerful. Yuka is a fun char to use since she has a 3-way attack. :D

MoF : Marisa A, B, and C. C is good since it somewhat resembles Remilia's Focus mode.

Notice how I dont mention Reimu at all? Personally I don't like to use them due to their EZ mode( Homing), and yes I know that they have alt mode as well, but yknow. As we all know:

Easy mode = Kids

@ Zero

There really isnt a better char. Just a preference in your play style. If you like power with Sacrifice of accuracy, Go for Marisa. If you like accuracy in place power go for Reimu or Sakuya.

slayer25k Aug 16, 2007 08:30 PM

OK

I have to admit: I've become a very large Touhou fan ...last week, why lie!

I guess, it all began last year after the release of that particular IOSYS flash movie. I've never heard of Touhou or anything else about it before... and even after watching the movie a whole bunch of times and listening to other IOSYS tracks... Touhou itself was not to be found.

But then ..in the last few months.. I finally gained consciousness for the infamous Touhou games - and got myself some demo versions!

I was < astonished > and came to one reasonable conclusion: :3:
( - awesome conclusion... )

I'm still impressed of the huge amount of art and doujins this game spawns!

[...]

And.. what else?

CLOudkiller Aug 17, 2007 01:09 AM

Touhou 10 is out on torrents!!!

Though you will need to get a serial code, from what I've tried to install.

Elixir Aug 17, 2007 04:59 AM

Yeah, I know. I'm going to wait though because I can't stand the slowness of torrents, and someone's going to give me a direct http download. Paying for your upload as well is a real drag.

Edit: Ok. Got it, 1cc'd normal. Pretty easy stuff. The final attack pattern is more a test of endurance over anything else, and it's very reminiscent of one of Reimu's attacks in IN.

I think I'll go for EX now, or something. I feel left short a bit by MoF's main game.

Sin Ansem Aug 17, 2007 12:03 PM

If you needed a serial number, the download you got is fake lol

I installed it, I'll play later when I have a bit more time.

Taco Aug 17, 2007 12:10 PM

Oh man, having played the Scarlet Weather Rhapsody demo I cannot wait for the full game. It's better than IaMP in every way. It's faster, it's easier to control, the nixing of short range/long range attack pattern switching makes planning out attacks a lot easier, too. No more declaration needed for spell cards also makes them a lot less useless. Now nobody can turtle after you declare because they know it's coming.

I'm not too good with Aya, though, but I'm loving the reworked moves of Marisa.

CLOudkiller Aug 17, 2007 01:11 PM

:(, Man this suck, but now I found the real torrent. :D

Are we allowed to share torrent links here? I don't wanna violate any ToS..

Elixir Aug 17, 2007 01:38 PM

I can't understand how ZUN managed to make MoF so fucking easy. Easy mode is pathetic, Normal is easy, and Hard is.. well, Normal. Lunatic is weird. EX is challenging.

Definitely unbalanced difficulty levels here.

CLOudkiller Aug 18, 2007 02:14 PM

It is?

I thought it was pretty well done here. What may be easy for you may be hard for others, though I feel each difficulty jump is one step way above the previous one. :o

Sin Ansem Aug 18, 2007 02:43 PM

I'd dig the soundtrack about now actually.

While playing through normal, I kinda got hammered on Stage 4 (that is, lost all of my lives there) and stopped for the night. Easy was pretty easy and it didn't take too long for me to actually beat it. It might even be easier than IN's easy mode once I get used to how this game works out.

And is there any way to change the number of starting lives? Or is two all that you'll get to start with?

Elixir Aug 18, 2007 04:42 PM

Your starting lives are your starting lives, you can't change them. But there's extends and extra lives to help you out.

Stage 4 is bullshit unbalanced, and should be switched with stage 6.

I 1cc'd normal, and I managed to ALMOST 1cc hard. I had an inch of health left on Kanako's final bullet pattern and died. Her bullet patterns aside from that one are easy, except for one which traces you around a bit. I like her music.

Easy's final bullet pattern is harder than Normal's final bullet pattern.

Kanako in EX is pretty easy, even if you have to bomb on her last spell card.

I can get up to stage 4 in Lunatic, but lol fuck stage 4.

CLOudkiller Aug 21, 2007 02:38 AM

Bah.. anyone cleared Extra mode already? I'm still having trouble with Stage 4 on normal.. god I swear its not normal mode... :(

Elixir Aug 21, 2007 02:40 AM

Extra's pretty easy in comparison to the other Extra's. The survival spell cards seem to kill me quite often, though.

Stage 4 is extremely messed up, I still can't believe it. Also, Marisa B is broken. Keep your power between 3 and 4 while shooting unfocused against a boss, and you'll see what I mean. But Marisa B isn't all that useful in the first place.

Actually Marisa isn't all that useful at all. Reimu A and C are great though.

CLOudkiller Aug 21, 2007 02:53 AM

Your'e the only one besides me who think Marisa C is good.. XD

Man, I guess some folks can't use it correctly.. :D And indeed Marisa B is indeed broken.. >.> Normal Clear here I come!! XD

Elixir Aug 21, 2007 03:01 AM

No.. I said Marisa was useless. I don't like using her at all. I guess if you centre Marisa A properly on bosses, she'd be good.

I'd appreciate it more if ZUN actually PLAYTESTED HIS OWN DAMN GAME before releasing it. Stage 4's most annoying bullet patterns are the blue/white ones, which use a trapping technique. I don't really have a strategy for those.

For the mid boss, start far left or right, and scrape around the edges of the larger blueish white circles. I've pretty much figured that out. It's the gigantic spam of faries which shoot blue orbs that are annoying, don't you think?

After playing Lunatic (I can get to Stage 4, but I have to bomb like hell on Nitori) I've gotta say Reimu A is really useful. Like, REALLY useful. Her damage is just a slight bit under Reimu B providing you're shotgunning the enemy. That doesn't really happen much but it does happen, like on Shizoku's second pattern.

EX is fun, minus the extremely annoying survival patterns. It reminds me of Mokou's pattern where she disappears, and orbs appear from each side of you before exploding.

Oh, here's a video of someone beating Suwako with Marisa B(ugged):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=705EpnTjtxk

Not sure what to make of this.. it's not a true EX clear considering Marisa B is bugged. In any case, I'll work on Stage 4 a bit more. I have more issues with the stage itself than Aya herself.

Indeed the stage is harder than Aya herself, though her 10sec survival card is a tough one to beat. For that little "waterfall" danmaku( I assume you meant this spot) you actually stay near the bottom-left corner and move as the blue round bullets falls down, and follow those, the "waterfall" danmaku part isn't as hard as those round one to avoid.

Elixir Aug 26, 2007 10:33 AM

After playing around with the scoring of mof, I don't know whether ZUN is a genius or not.

Like, getting the first extend on stage 1 for example. And bombing in the appropriate places for score, despite failing spell cards in the process. In any case, I can pretty much do the first two stages flawlessly on Hard, getting an extend on each, and another extend on stage 3 shortly before or after Nitori mid-boss where she leaves a 1up behind.

I'm randomly victim to Nitori's first spell card, and it's pretty different from Normal (instead of just crossover bluish white bullets, it also has orbs) and her mid-attack which has them coming from both sides in a wavy pattern (in Normal, they're not wavy at all).

Stage 4 I'm still unsure of. I still have to bomb when I don't want too at times. I guess I'll wait for some videos to pop up that deal with that part.

If I'm not playing for score I can easily make it up to Kanako on Hard, but it's not like I would want to do that. Scoring is much more fun. Kanako isn't.

If anyone wants to purchase Mountain of Faith, paletweb are now taking preorders (I bought EoSD, IN and PCB, and they arrived the third day <3)

I take you bought MoF already? :D

Anywho, I can't clear Normal let alone Hard. XD I'm having trouble with Sanae now.. Stage 4 is easy now, but there's something about Sanae's 2nd or 3rd spell, the one that has spear like danmaku thrown at you in a wavy walls next to you, I don't know why, I keep dying on that card.. :gonk:

Elixir Aug 28, 2007 03:17 AM

Yeah, I preordered mof.

I'm only having problems with these spell cards:

Nitori's final card with green spikes.
Sanae's card with white spikes.
Kanako's "huge red and blue bullets that transform into smaller bulltes" card.
Aya's survival card.

Aside from that, sometimes I have issues with Aya or Kanako. I pretty much have Sanae, Hina, and all that, down. I hit 700k faith on Hard before fucking it up at Aya. :(

I don't have a problem at all with Aya's survival card.. :D I thought it was rather easy. Nitori's Green spike card is giving me problems too.. I swear they auto-aim.. Kanako's card was somewhat easy, it was her little "path of doom" spell card that got me.

Elixir Aug 29, 2007 03:41 AM

1cc'd Hard yesterday. :ver cool:

Scored 591k. I was going to bother with scoring, but uh, considering the fact that there's a Hard replay with over 1 billion in score, I don't think I can compete. Oh well, I'm just happy I 1cc'd it, which is usually what I play for.

Elixir Sep 18, 2007 12:29 PM

Cross-posted:

Okay, I've been taking up Lunatic for the past week and I actually managed to pull it off. Barely. The final spell card is by far the biggest pile of bullshit I have ever seen in touhou, and the massive jump between Hard's final card and Lunatic's final card is ridiculous.

Aside from that, Sanae feels really out of place. I mean, Aya is much harder. I did survive her survival spell card during a 1cc attempt once, but it's still very difficult. I'm not sure why stage 4 comes before stage 5, but whatever.

I used Reimu B so I could do more damage to the final card, which is practically the only thing (well, I also have trouble with Aya's final card and Sanae's orb + spikes card) I'm guaranteed to mess up on. I'm probably the first white person to 1cc Lunatic with Reimu B.

I think mof overall, is a visually appealing looking game, but the characters are forgettable and it doesn't retain the touhou charm I found in IN.

Lunatic - 378,421,120 - Reimu B - C - 0.320% - ELIXIR - Replay

If you have Mountain of Faith, check this out. I'll probably retire from the game now, and go back to previous titles like EoSD and PCB which I really haven't given enough attention.

CLOudkiller Sep 18, 2007 10:22 PM

Aw you quitting? I'm still having problems clearing normal mode and you already cleared lunatic!? You bastard.. XD I can't help trying to get scores sometimes.. :( it's as bad as smoking except its not bad.. really.

Elixir Sep 18, 2007 11:09 PM

Just mof, because I'm sick of it for now. I tried pofv with a friend, but because of the lag, it's kind of shitty. Still, aside from some jerkyness, the game was quite fun to play (I beat him 5:1)

But yeah, PCB and EoSD need my attention more. I know they're better games, and I haven't even beaten EoSD on Normal yet. That, both EX's, Phantasm, both Hards and maybe Lunatic if I have enough free time, means practically nothing left to do in mof.

Besides, for mof, you can't score properly with Reimu B.

Lord Styphon Sep 19, 2007 10:27 AM

Although it's already gotten underway, maybe some will be interested in Touhou Seimoe 2007 if they don't know about it already.

Elixir Sep 19, 2007 01:29 PM

Totally forgot about this. Shit, this will be tough. I can't believe Suika came anywhere even close to Yuyuko. And I can't believe China beat Eirin.

Whatever, I voted for Cirno and Patchouli, since they're my favourite of the group, and:

Spoiler:
Wow. I didn't know Cirno and Patchu were both leading. I would've thought Marisa would be on top, due to her popularity.

But ultimately Mokou or Flandre need to win this.

CLOudkiller Sep 19, 2007 11:10 PM

Flandre is going to dominate the competition for sure. She won on our Hongfire's Tou-Moe 07 against the finalist Patchouli. Man it was decided by one vote.. such an epic battle..

Elixir Sep 23, 2007 02:32 AM

Touhou Seimoe 2007 · You can Vote for TWO Characters per Group!

VOTE FOR FLANDRE

Also, I 1cc'd Imperishable Night on Lunatic with Border team. Terrible play though. I ended up coming out on my last life with 0 bombs, mostly due to fucking up stage 6 early. A good quarter of the final spell card (Hourai Jewel) was spent with 0 bombs. I guess I'll upload the replay a little later.

CLOudkiller Sep 23, 2007 06:41 PM

Damn.. I thought Remilia would be running first... Udonge is sweeping the competition. :o
Yukari, this is a heavy contender. We'll see how it turns out.

packrat Sep 24, 2007 10:33 AM

I just have to say that I am very satisfied with the results of this last bracket.
I was religiously watching the whole thing in the midst of an all-night homework session.
That said, this was DEFINITELY how the competition unfolded.

Heh, at least you can clear IN 1CC. I can't even do EoSD extra. :o

As for the other news..

Seimoe's tournament is getting rougher and rougher each run.. Remilia Scarlet vs Keine Kamishirasawa. My two favorite char.. Wah.. who to choose, who to choose..

Yesterday .. Imperishable Night finally appeared - that makes the order from a few weeks ago complete -

I should stop dying at Stage 4 ...

Don't worry, EoSD Extra is probably the hardest Extra available. Followed by PCB, then IN, then MoF. I haven't spent all that much time on EoSD in comparison to the other games. Though, EoSD is probably tied with IN in terms of favourites.

The thing about EoSD is that it has rank, and planning only takes you so far because of it. Patchouli is horrendous if you're on Lunatic and using Marisa A. If you're using Marisa A you're going to have difficulty with capturing Lava Cromlech or Emerald Megalith.

Ironically, I died around flandre's last 2 Spellcards ( Q.E.D Ripples of 495 years, and Forbidden Barrage "Catadioptric". I thought she was much easier than the other extra bosses. Or maybe I'm playing EoSD too much. XD At one point I had her to [ ] that much before I died.. :( Let's just say my keyboard went through physical therapy.

On Normal - Stage 5 - Death - without continue

Aarrrrr Patchouli!

After a continue.. it seems that I can't get back to my 'normal' state of mind - It's like .. I wouldn't care what's going to happen afterwards..and I just stop playing seriously.

I feel ya. After I died in stage 5 of PCB on my attempts of a 1cc run. I just.. give up. I don't feel like grazing, then bomb my way through.

Patchouli?
Youre talking about IN or EoSD? If its EoSD I can understand.. XD. I had to practice Patchy's stage over and over till I got the hang of it. Then I get obliterated in Stage 5(well this was back when I was a new to EoSD).

CLOudkiller Oct 11, 2007 02:29 AM

Er.. I don't mean to point out the obvious but the only time I hear that is when my sound is turned way too high. Maybe you turned your sound too high via Windows or physical means? Perhaps it might be the game itself, but has it happened to you in just IN or all the touhou games?

Elixir Oct 11, 2007 02:43 AM

All games. Others have told me the video sounds horrible, but I'm not sure how to fix it at all.

Would you date Cirno?

And.. I still can't stop playing IN ... too bad that Cirno doesn't appear in it - but Eirin makes all up for it, I guess.

My question for today...

Well.. In IN, there are the typical Power and Points and these Time Orbs;
But what are those blue and transparent orbs? What's the meaning behind them?

About those transparent orbs.. I'm not sure but I think they help increase your maximum score when you get the point orbs. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong though.

Meh, I don't worry too much about the lossless quality. As so long as it doesnt start sounding like scratches. Thanks again for the file though.

Edit: The UN Owen in this IOSYS Album kicked ass. :D

As for dojin news..

Patch-con!!

You are patchouli, controlling units to defend your books from being stolen. Via cute SD style. :D

it is a touhou RTS, a rather simple one but never the less fun game.
YouTube Video

DDL link: PatchCon.rar

I found it to be really easy. >>'

The controls are really simple, control with a mouse like a standard RTS game.

Gameplay:

Like other RTS games you can "upgrade" your units by using money, earn by killing enemies. And each unit on the battlefield will increase the cost of upgrading for that unit group. Units are ranked by strength by left to right, left being standard foot units, and right being somewhat more specialized units. You'll find out soon enough when you play.

The "powers" aka Spell cards are as order left to right:

1. Magic attack which reduces all enemy hp by 1/2
2. Reduces the Soldier resurrection time
3. This allows you to move faster for all unit.
4. Prevents your "books" from being stolen.
5. Not sure what this one does, but I think it increases your units defenses.

Enjoy. :D

And more good news!! It keeps on rolling!!!!

TOUHOU ANIME!! Well a small movie but I'm still very happy. :D

In case some of you don't know, this is done by Sound Holic that did that small touhou anime teaser as for their album, but apparently became a full fledged movie. :D

You can still find the anime on tokyotosho.com

Well, Comiket 73 just passed and with it a whole bunch of touhou arranges were released. Most noticeable were Golden City Factory, Demetori and two Alstroemeria Albums.

I haven't had much of a chance to listen to a lot of it, but I did listen to the new album "HARMONY" from Alstroemeria Records. It's "ok", the only song I really like on it is Dark Road. It's mixed from Stage 2 MoF and Cirno's theme. Patchucon also looks really interesting, and I'll check that out very soon.

Apparently there was also a UI-70 album released at this Comiket, but it hasn't been uploaded to share. I'd really like to hear it since UI-70 make really good touhou arranges. I'll check out Demetori and Golden City Factory stuff tonight.

Actually come to think of it, if anyone wants me to upload the Alstroemeria Records album "Blue Note" in FLAC, I can, because it arrived a few days ago. I'm also expecting a few other Alstroemeria albums in the mail from Japan.

though a pity there aren't too many albums showing up with Touhou Fuujinroku ~ Mountain of Faith arranges.

Elixir Jan 8, 2008 09:14 AM

Well.. um.. I beat MoF Extra yesterday, and wow that was lackluster. The last card isn't hard at all, in fact, I died twice on Suwako's second survival spellcard because I really didn't want to bomb on it. I could probably beat it with a single life if I cared, which I don't, because it's a poor Extra. I now have absolutely nothing left to do in MoF (just as well, I guess) aside from capturing Wind God on Lunatic (Kanako's final card), and I don't really care for that, either.

Blue Note, from Alstroemeria Records, also arrived in the mail. More about that here.

So I decided to try out one of these Touhou games today. The game I played was Perfect Cherry Blossom, and I have to say, woah, this game is much harder than I predicted it would be. But the gameplay is very addictive, I love the challenge in it. I have yet to clear the game with no continues on Easy (got to the last boss without continues but died there) but hopefully I'll be there in just a while :eagletear: So it'd be nice if you had any good tips for a beginner like me :)

Hmm, looks interesting! I can't think that it's just been made as an April Fools' Day joke, with the amount of work there must have been put down to make a video like this for it. I'd find it very unlikely that they'd be able to make a video looking like this with not an actual game engine of some kind running and getting that recorded too. But heck, what do I know, I'm no expert in game making nor video making so I could be wrong. It's just that if they'd wanna joke, I think they'd just put out screenshots, not actual in game footage.

Haha yesh, now I've cleared Easy no continues with every character, and am now doing Normal. So far I've gotten to Stage 5 boss with no continues, so I guess in time I'll have it cleared on Normal too :) The game got a lot easier when I noticed that you could see where the enemy was on the bottom of the screen, heck, trying to concentrate on the boss and my own character was real damn hard before I noticed that one.

slayer25k Apr 3, 2008 09:50 AM

Not really, just been playing like an hour or two a day at most :)

If what you're doing is ruining the day, then I'm guilty of ruining the day as well, haha :D If you don't have anything else that you should be doing, I think it's okay to "ruin the day" so to say. I should play Touhou at least! But I end up looking at the empty desktop or Gamingforce every single day - I really need to practice on my guitar playing .. or - like I just said - practice Touhou!

nanaman Apr 3, 2008 01:10 PM

By the way, is there a way to skip the credits in Perfect Cherry Blossom? It's kinda annoying to have to sit through it EVERY time you clear a game.

slayer25k Apr 3, 2008 01:16 PM

Well - the only way to skip is to use ALT+F4 ;)

You can fast forward only by pressing Ctrl.

Damn, that was a bad round.. a really bad one.. That's what I'll get after a month of not playing PCB. Maybe it's just a bad day - the 7th one in a row - cannot even play guitar properly - My hands feel like they're gum! :(

Who the hell is... Sarno?

Back to the Wriggle LastWord:
I'm attaching both replays here =D for reference - It's actually not that hard and there is even a chance of surviving if you just stay at one place without moving for the whole time :tpg:

The first replay is the hard way of capturing the card - Moving left/right/up/down all the time with a constant movement to the left and one or two "correcting moves" to the right.

It was the first way I tried it...and it took me 215 tries ;)

The second replay - no.15 - is an easier way. By just moving up and down, you won't have to mind the blue and red butterflies.

Sakabadger May 26, 2008 03:36 AM

I've been trying to get into Touhou lately (actually my second attempt or so), and it seems to be sticking this time around. Slowly trying to work my way through the actual games, but so far it's tough going. I've only been playing Perfect Cherry Blossom so far, and I haven't yet managed to beat the game on Normal, even after exhausting all my continues. Practice makes perfect, I guess.

Just got SWR a couple hours ago, and this will probably cement my induction into the Touhou fandom. When I tried playing IaMP a long while back I didn't really like the game, but SWR is awesome fun. Suika has to be the most hilarious character ever.

Netplay on this is pretty cool, too. I played Lace for a while, but now I've got to work on the story mode.

o rite, don't forget to patch the game.

The following attachment is the new th11, I feel that normal.. doesn't feel normal. A bit harder than normal I say. Easy is too easy. D:

Cloudkiller: Did my replay help? ;)

TH11:
Is it just me...or... why don't I like it.

The whole Touhou feeling vanished with PoFV I guess. Everything's so muddy fast and in a way.. very strange... Ah, well - At least I've got my PCB.

TH11: SA Full version.

The real deal folks!

Sin Ansem Aug 16, 2008 11:20 PM

This is probably the hardest Touhou game yet.

But it has a DEEP CROW NUCLEAR LOLI so it's still awesome.

But Sanae is a bad girl so :(

CLOudkiller Aug 17, 2008 03:46 AM

I agree with ya. I'm already gaming over on stage 4 normal. Stage 5 was like LOL DODGE THIS, hell the midboss I died from too.. Stage 6.. *shudders* I haven't even seen it yet. :(

Sakabadger Sep 15, 2008 11:12 PM

Does anyone here play Scarlet Weather Rhapsody (Touhou 10.5)? I play it quite frequently, and I'd really love it if there were more people around to play with.

If you're interested in a match or just chatting, feel free to swing by #rtfo @ irc.psigenix.net, where I hang out.

zzeroparticle Sep 16, 2008 01:02 AM

I might take you up on that since I haven't had too many opponents as of late. Guess I should upgrade my version to 1.04 and give it a shot to see how I fare.

I'm guessing you primarily use Youmu? :tpg:

Sakabadger Sep 16, 2008 01:07 AM

I like using Youmu, but I don't primarily use any character. I play around with all of them to varying degrees of success.

The Youmu avatar/sig was just because I found the image amusing.

CLOudkiller Sep 16, 2008 05:55 PM

I'm bored.. I might join ya later on. Time to get myself pwned.

Sakabadger Sep 16, 2008 06:32 PM

zzeroparticle showed up last night to play a couple games, which was pretty fun. I won't actually be available 'til this evening, but feel free to drop by any time. There are always folks there to chat/play with anyway.

If you're really bored, you can check out my collection of replays.

More like you enjoying abusing the crap out of Myon :p.

Nevertheless, the battles were enjoyable and I certainly look forwards to some more matchups. I'm usually free late into the night so that's when I'll most likely poke my head into the channel.

Sakabadger Sep 16, 2008 07:13 PM

Trust me, you haven't even seen Myon abuse. I only occasionally use that Myon cannon, and it's even more rare for me to do it twice in a row. To do a triple Myon is just desperation...

Also I'd probably have changed my ava/sig by now if I weren't so lazy to do it.

zzeroparticle Sep 17, 2008 12:26 PM

Another fun set of games last night, even if my animu watching combined with my work schedule meant only 15 minutes of play, but it was a solid 15 minutes. I really need to remember to rearrange my decklist for each character. Playing with the defaults just doesn't cut it too well.

For that matter, I should experiment around with some of Remilia's alternate skill cards.

Sakabadger Sep 17, 2008 08:33 PM

Yeah, your Remilia play has inspired my friend there to play around with more alt skill cards -- Chain Gang (alt 214BC) and Ceiling Fear (alt 22BC). The end result, essentially, is that whenever I play Remilia my life is misery. You can check out some of the alt skill cards in action: Replays. The last 12 or so are what you'll be looking for.

Sakabadger Sep 23, 2008 10:03 AM

Just a heads up: SWR is now patched up to v1.06. Tasofro is really pumping out the patches lately...

東方緋想天

CLOudkiller Sep 30, 2008 06:59 PM

Yup. I guess people must be exploiting them or something.

Sakabadger Sep 30, 2008 11:02 PM

I don't think they're exploits so much as continual fixes. Changelogs generally don't reveal any huge nerfs or changes, so I guess tasofro just has a bunch of free time now.

China patch coming when :(

Fixed :tpg:

But yeah, work's been keeping me too busy to actually update it since we last played just to see what the changes are. Hopefully once I have more free time, I can get back into the game and see whether I can actually adapt to the new changes.

So I take it you aren't able to tell whether the game's more balanced as of the last update?

Sakabadger Oct 1, 2008 01:01 AM

Balance, schmalance. Who really knows.

You'd have to be pretty skilled at this game to be able to recognize what constitutes imbalance and what's simply getting annoyed at being cheesed by certain moves.

CLOudkiller Oct 1, 2008 02:40 AM

If you want specifics on which patch did what.. here ya go:

v1.03
Few discoverings during random arcade run with Remilia:
-Remi's 2nd sign spellcards (Spear the Gungnir, Demon lord Craddle, etc...) got their damage slightly increased
-Her 623+b/c is now multi-hit, 3 for B version (and sends enemy upwards) and 4 for C version (sends enemy forward but Remilia will land right next to her/him)

-Yukari now has her SA special ability (warp through walls xD)
-Alice has 2 new attacks (that i saw, but they got cancelled by me shortly after they were casted xD)

-Typhoon weather 'new system', the super-armor is still there, the difference, every hit (melee or bullet) will make the opponent drop red crystals, thus, shortening 'Typhoon' duration (good solution imo, matches tend to last nothing since typhoon was on both rounds xD)

Moar changes: (aKa, things im finding out now)
-Yukari's warp thingy,it is really her SA ability, even the input is the same, go to a corner and press 2 times the corresponding button (4 for left corner, 6 for right lol)
-Suika can no longer charge her 2+A attack (i think they made A attack chargeable instead, dunno)
-Her 'final super atomic buster' spellcard damage was highly increased (from 4ksomething to 6ksomething)
-Sakuya's bouncing knives attack now throws few knives instead
-Her 'soul scuplture-something' spellcard damage was increased (now its worthy to have the 4 copys of it xD)

-Youmu now shoot less B bullets -.-
-Tenshi's earthquake spellcard damage was increased (and a lot it seems), also, her 421+b/c is faster now

-Heavy Fog weather (vampirism) now drains health through melee AND bullets
-I think they increased the 'drop rate' of Marisa's True Final-spark

v1.04
System -
- Added limit disposal in regards to Super Armor
- Changed inaccurate texts in explanation for Guard.

Reimu -
- Fixed a bug where down and hit against wall do not change weather prediction.

Marisa -
- Fixed a bug where during アップスウィープ, using spell cards that could not be used returns the rotation angle to the original state.

- Fixed a bug where hold weak shoot has fewer bullets than intended.
- Fixed the inaccurate portions of text for Guard.

Yukari -
- Fixed a bug where down and hit against wall do not change weather prediction.
- Fixed a bug where higher level of 幻想卍傘 lacked the attack-attack cancel check. (The check where 2 attacks meet and cancel)

Suika -
- Fixed a bug where ミッシングパープルパワー was capable of air strike/air weak shoot graze. (Not sure exactly what they meant here, that the enlarged form should not be capable of graze or attacks from it should not be grazed)

Aya -
- Fixed a bug where 天狗のマクロバースト was possible to start on ground.

Udonge -
- Fixed a misaction where ディスビリーフアスペクト is triggered by weather change (I think).

Komachi -
- Fixed a bug where after, and right before aerial strike hitting up had inherited the previous gravity.
- Fixed a bug where back jump's avoid area wasn't working properly for graze.
- Fixed a bug where aerial C version of 脱魂の儀 wasn't checking level properly.

Iku -
- Fixed a bug where the aerial version of 龍神の稲光り was possible to cancel by 必殺技

- Lessened the spirit power decrease for aerial forward strike.

- The turnabout timing allowing for movement after flight has been made earlier.
- Lessened stamina decrease for 不夜城レッド.
- Lessened stamina decrease for スカーレットデビル.

Yuyuko -
- Forward strong shoot's remaining time has been decreased.
- Fixed a problem with 无寿の夢 in regards to dealing with life. Fixed the case where during effect, using the likes of weak shoot for the kill stops the forward movement [of life?]

Yukarin -
- Fixed a bug where edge warp won't take place.
- Decreased stamina decrease for 客観境界.

Suika -
- Aerial up strike, hits middle. Aerial guard decreases spiritual power.
- Aerial forward strike, fixed a bug where the connecting portion was different from function.
- Dash strike, first hit moved to hit up.

Udonge -
- Fixed a bug where using spell card cancels the effects of field effect skills.

Most of it seems to be just tweaking really. I got this info from a buddy on another forum I frequent. Give thanks to him. My Apologies for the wall of text, if you guys like I can put them in spoilers for you. And I'm hardly skilled. I just tend to notice things.. >.>

Sakabadger Oct 4, 2008 03:03 AM

Why are all the moves in Japanese? Here's the original translated version: SWR Wiki

Good information on there, though it has gone a little stagnant as of late.

zzeroparticle Oct 4, 2008 03:08 AM

Yeah, they really should update the FAQ so I have a clue as to which characters are top tier so that I can prac- *gets shot*

As for reading the changelog, that's somewhat helpful, but I do need to see how that translates into play and whether it's noticeable on my end.

CLOudkiller Oct 4, 2008 03:56 AM

Overall I would say it wouldn't affect your play much at all really. I sure as hell didn't notice in mine. And sorry about the untranslated bits, though I kinda thought you would know what moves those would be if you played that character.

Sakabadger Oct 4, 2008 04:26 AM

NOT LIKE ANY OF YOU GUYS COME TO PLAY ANYMORE/ANYWAY SO DISCUSSING STRATEGY WITH YOU IS POINTLESS

:(

Finally got around to watching Maikaze's Touhou anime.

To put it succinctly, it was kind of lame, but nowhere as lame as I would have expected. There were a few blog posts that had me primed for it being really bad, but the final result is that the episode is more inoffensive than anything else. The VAs did a great job and though you could tell that the art and animation were somewhat subpar compared to a professional studio, they did try, and it deserves a passing score on that front.

Aya's by far the most hilarious of the bunch because her personality was captured really well. Marisa was a bit more reserved than I'd expected though. Oh yes, and the plot. Well, it's a generally silly Touhou-style plot that promises interesting events down the line and hopefully more mahou shoujo smackdowns, but obviously they couldn't go into it given the time constraints in a single episode. As such, this episode's highlights were mostly spellcard fanservice as well as a few attacks taken from the fighting games. The ranged attacks weren't as pretty as Nanoha's magic circles, but still, a passable effort nonetheless.

The fact that it's planned to be more than one episode was a surprise though and I look forwards to seeing what they come up with in the next installments.

CLOudkiller Apr 20, 2009 12:08 AM

If by now you haven't got the newest touhou demo. Get it now. Also those that have played it. What do you think of it?

Guys. I'm dyin' for some more Scarlet Weather Rhapsody competition. Recently started playing it again with two other people, and while it's fun it could be more fun if we had a larger group of people.

Come on, I know some of you must have this game.

Hit us up in #rtfo @ irc.psigenix.net for some matches!

Hey CLOudkiller. I just recently started playing Undefined Fantastic Object. It's really great with the bullet patterns. I ended it on easy, then went straight to insane lol. What level do you play on? If you played it that is.
