GFF MegaScrabble - Game 1

ZERGRINCH WINS

Each day lasts 24 hours. I’ll keep this thread updated with the latest scores, and at 10am every day I’ll post everyone’s new tiles to bring their total back up to 14. If I’ve forgotten to say something, I’ll update this post later.

Rules, updated slightly:
Basics
-The MegaScrabble game board, which is 41x41 squares
-10 Players
-750 tiles

How it works
-Standard Scrabble rules and scoring, except for the modifications below.
-Players start with 14 tiles, and may make 2 moves per day with those tiles (new tiles are only drawn at the beginning of each day)
-50 point bonus for using all 14 tiles in one day
-Word multipliers are added together (i.e., if your word covers 1 Double Word Score and 1 Triple Word Score tile, then your score is x5)
-Everyone’s current letters will be shown in the first post (since I’m playing too, and I’ll already know this info, it’s only fair I post it for everyone)
-We play until all tiles are exhausted. Whenever someone has used up all of their tiles and none are left to draw, the game ends at the end of that day. No points will be awarded for the tiles remaining on the other players’ lists.
-You may use 1 turn in a day to exchange letters. Just state in the thread which letters you’re exchanging, and I’ll draw them for you as soon as I can.
-When playing a blank, put "[]" on the board.
-You may replace a blank on the board with one of your own letters, keeping the blank for yourself. This does not take a turn, but please state in the thread that you’re doing it.
-Words used must be found on The official Scrabble Tournament Word List. The link leads to a searchable database.

Please post in the thread whenever you lay down a word. Please state the word(s) you made, and what your total score for the move is. I’ll be checking the scores myself as well. It should go without saying, but please don’t deface the Scrabble board; just put down your letters and leave everything else alone.

Game board for spectators – I think this is set to automatically update when changes are made.

Grawl Aug 1, 2007 10:50 AM

Ok, I began with the words 'drove' and 'foes'.

nuttyturnip Aug 1, 2007 11:01 AM

It's not noon yet, so it doesn't count. Sorry, have to be a stickler, because Zergrinch wanted me to start earlier. If you want to go back and put them in now, be my guest. Also, please use capital letters.

Domino Aug 1, 2007 12:30 PM

Added SORTIE and TEND to the board. I'll work out my points later.

EDIT: I think my points work out at 20

I got 17, because the point bonuses only work for the first time you play a letter on them.

Yeldarb Aug 1, 2007 01:11 PM

I'm going to post VIDEO and DRAIN(with my blank).

EDIT: My score I think is 25.

ANOTHER EDIT: I made a mistake. My score now is 24.

Ok fair enough, been a long long time since I last played any form of Scrabble so I'll not argue.

nuttyturnip Aug 1, 2007 01:30 PM

I played SKATER and picked up Yeldarb's Blank (which he didn't mention in the thread). I get 50 points (VIDEOS + SKATER), and I'll take my other turn later.

The Plane Is A Tiger Aug 1, 2007 02:06 PM

I'm laying down TABLE and then using my blank to make BOOZE. Score total should be 38. I think. is 43.

nuttyturnip Aug 1, 2007 02:54 PM

I picked up Tritoch's "E" blank, and layed it as an "R" in BOOZER and ROOF. My total score for the move is 28 points.

The Plane Is A Tiger Aug 1, 2007 03:32 PM

I'd like to point out that I hate you, Nutty.

I'm wondering now though, shouldn't we let people just use their 2 turns in one go? There's no way in hell we can keep it this 'smooth' in a week, I'm sure. Plus people with different timezones would be able to 'cheat' while others tend to 'sleep'. Just my 'two cents'.

Smelnick Aug 1, 2007 05:58 PM

Alright, So I layed down a B, an E and T to form BEET using the e in boozer, and the T also formed TO with the first O in roof. For a total of 16 points. and then for the second turn I formed TOKEN with the TO and that gave me another 20 points. so the grand total would be 36 I believe. If someone could check my math please. Hopefully I did this correctly.

The Plane Is A Tiger Aug 1, 2007 06:05 PM

I only get 25 points when I tally your moves, Smelnick. 12 for BEET, 2 for TO, and 11 for TOKEN.

Smelnick Aug 1, 2007 06:30 PM

oh thats right. point bonuses only work once

While I see your point, I'd rather let this game take its course before making any changes like that. Just because you're in a different timezone doesn't mean you won't get good opportunities; there are tons of bonus squares on the board. I don't see why the game can't run as smooth all week. We're not adding any more players, and most of us are on different schedules. I'm most active during the work day, Yeldarb and Smelnick seem to be randomly around, Tritoch is a night owl most of the time, Zergrinch 12 hours different than most of us, so he's always on a wierd timetable. You get my drift; I think there'll be action at different times. The only thing that worries me is picking up blanks; that can be very opportunist, and I may have to modify or eliminate that (but I'd feel for the poor players that got stuck with a Q).

One reason I gave people 2 turns is so that they could be more involved and have more they can do. Admittedly, I'm bored during work, so most likely I'll have ample opportunity to keep up with the board from 12-4:30 my time, but I'm not much of a strategist. Both moves I made it was less that I was waiting to pounce, and more that I figured I ought to lay something down before I forgot, and just figured out what my best move was.

Smelnick Aug 1, 2007 07:01 PM

Yah. I'm basically on when I get home from work. And then randomly throughout the night

I get 26 (12 for BEET, 4 for TO, and 10 for TOKEN). BEET and TO both get the double word bonus, because he laid the T down in that turn.

Summonmaster Aug 1, 2007 08:49 PM

Hoh yeah, I believe I am in third place for now...

DRAGOON nets me 12 points, and
VOX nets me 29 points due to the X on triple letter ^^

Total: 41
Tiles Left: R-R-J-L-U-M

The Plane Is A Tiger Aug 1, 2007 08:52 PM

That's still one point behind me, Masta S. I'm afraid your skillz were unable to pay the billz.

Summonmaster Aug 1, 2007 09:24 PM

:( Two, I thought. Evidently the S does not stand for skills :3
Here's hoping for even more exotic letters next draw!

Zergrinch Aug 1, 2007 10:31 PM

First move is "TOED" on DRAGOONS

TOED (7)
DO (3)
RE (4)
AD (3)

Second move is "BONDS" on TOED

BONDS (30)
TO (6)
DON (4)
RED (4)
ADS (6)

Total Score is 61.

Letters remaining: K N I L L

Rockgamer Aug 2, 2007 04:32 AM

Okay, let's see if I'm doing this right:

I played VITTLE off of VIDEOS for 18 points (9 points times two for Double Word Score).

And then I played REF off of VITTLE for 14 points (2 points, plus 4 points times three for Triple Letter Score).

Total Score: 32

Tiles Left: N-Q-N-M-N-V-R

Zergrinch Aug 2, 2007 07:21 AM

I like how the official Scrabble word list has VITTLE listed, but doesn't have its meaning. :tpg:

Also, allow me to sympathize with RockgamerXIII for his shitty luck of the draw. I suggest that in future games, everyone starts with a blank tile.

Vittle = food, although I've never heard it singular before. You know, cowboys chowing down on some vittles, or the cat food brand Tender Vittles.

As for everyone getting blanks, I don't think so. By and large, most folks got tons of vowels, and in real Scrabble you're bound to get stuck with lousy draws; it's just part of the game. Even so, I'm waiting for the improbable but not impossible move of someone gaining 14 blanks and laying them all down at once.

Does anyone have any objections of moving the start of the day back to 10am tomorrow? Looks like Guru is the only person left today.

Zergrinch Aug 2, 2007 08:00 AM

Nah, it's just a bastardization of "victual"! :p No objection to moving the start back. But maybe we should give Guru a grace period.

nuttyturnip Aug 2, 2007 08:38 AM

I wasn't going to move it back today; tomorrow would be when we go back to 10am.

Edit: Also, your score is screwy, Zergrinch. The numbers you posted add up to 67, not 61, but when I calculate your score, I get 63 (I think you counted the S in BONDS as a triple letter instead of a double letter).

Zergrinch Aug 2, 2007 09:25 AM

Haha, split the difference.

Yarr, that's what I get for using a spreadsheet to compute scores!

[07] TOED = 1 + 1 + (3*1) + 2
[03] DO = 2 + 1
[04] RE = 1 + (3*1)
[03] AD = 1 + 2

[17] Turn 1 = 7 + 3 + 4 + 3

[27] BONDS = (3 + 1 + 1 + 2 + [1*2]) * 3
[06] TO = (1 + 1) * 3
[04] DON = 2 + 1 + 1
[04] RED = 1 + 1 + 2
[05] ADS = 1 + 2 + (1*2)

[46] Turn 2 = 27 + 6 + 4 + 4 + 5

[63] Total Score = 17 + 46

Additional Spam:
Also nutty, I included a monitoring spreadsheet at http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?k...VHaflLdQ&gid=1

nuttyturnip Aug 2, 2007 10:32 AM

That's a nice spreadsheet (as usual), but I'll stick with just updating the first post. I'm hoping to attract future players from the spectators of this game, and as this is a GFF event after all, I don't want to shift all the game elements offsite.

I've updated everyone's letters in anticipation of the approaching new day in 1/2 hour. Domino got a U to go with his Q, and poor RockgamerXIII didn't get much help (though his last 7 letters spell RKSTEIN, which almost abbreviates his country from the last Risk. That's just awesome).

Also, I created a Wiki page for MegaScrabble.

Domino Aug 2, 2007 11:20 AM

Added a few more words

QUEEN
NOVA
RAZE
ME

I'll work out scores later

Zergrinch Aug 2, 2007 11:29 AM

I put down VINED, attaching the D to sortie.

18 - VINED
2 - IN
6 - DE
8 - SORTIED

My calculations tell me this move is worth 34 points.

Also Domino, I think we're limited to 2 moves.

You can only make 2 moves per day. You just made 4. Two of those will have to go.

Grawl Aug 2, 2007 11:59 AM

BEET => BEETLE
also creating
LO and EF (they exist according to the database)
and I create
WAR

Damn that sucks. Oh well let me figure out what I'm going to do. Adjusting board now.

EDIT: OK, I've taken out RAZE and ME.

QUEEN = 28
NOVA = 6

Total = 34

Scores are correct, I think.

Yeldarb Aug 2, 2007 12:24 PM

I put down ROVE.

And with double word I get 14 points.

nuttyturnip Aug 2, 2007 02:17 PM

I put down WORDED, which also creates RE and VITTLED (which is on the list) for a total of 41 points. The D in WORDED is a blank.

Either Domino or Zergrinch (I can tell from the edit list) changed the R blank in BOOZER/ROOF from a blank to a letter. Neither of them has a letter R, so I changed it back to a blank.

Smelnick Aug 2, 2007 04:55 PM

Alright. Time to scrabbelize. Took me awhile to get this thought out. I put FERN on the top right where that WOR[]ED is, and that got me 14 points. and I put JOULE onto the E of DROVE to get me 24 points

so 24 + 12 = 38

Summonmaster Aug 2, 2007 04:57 PM

Ok I don't know how to calculate the score when both word and letter bonus tiles are combined. Mostly about whether the Double Letter takes effect before or after the word point total is multiplied, or whether it is ignored. Thus,

QUALM = 30, 32, or 34 points
ZOOM = 28, 30, or 32 points

Total = ranges from 58-66 points
Tiles Left: B-J-M-R-R-T-Y

Zergrinch Aug 2, 2007 06:29 PM

Masta S (whoever you are), word multiplers take effect LAST. If you laid down letters on double- or triple-letter tiles, they are included in the multiplication.

I changed it. You specified you were using the blank as a letter [R] didn't you? It would then count as a letter R with 0 points, right? Okay, so I glossed over the part where you said we can steal blank tiles. Sorry! :p

Anyway, for my last turn, I put down YOKL on ROVE, forming YOKEL. I believe that earns me 32 points.

Tiles remaining: NIGGLE

Yes, but as I stated in the rules, players can replace blanks with the proper letter if they possess it, thus giving that player a blank. If you change it to an R on the board, then no one will know they can pick it up.

EDIT: Summonmaster, I think you thought that you'd get a double word score for QUALM, but that DWS was used when Domino made QUEEN. Therefore, your total points for both moves is 43.

For my second move, I made PEON for 24 points.

Yeldarb Aug 2, 2007 07:46 PM

For my second move, I place down HEAP for 18 points.

For 32 points today, and 56 points total.

Summonmaster Aug 2, 2007 11:45 PM

Hmm, I have a predicament which leads to a question. Tomorrow (Saturday) I won't be at a computer all day. Probably returning late Sunday too.

Can I take four turns when I return or do I just have to suck it up and skip my two turns tomorrow?

The Plane Is A Tiger Aug 3, 2007 01:02 AM

Alright, I'm sure there are probably better moves I could make, but I'm tired of staring at letters for now.

- Switching the blank in WORDED with a D.
- Laying down EFFACE with the blank as a C (26 points).
- Making TOKEN into TOKENED (36 points).

That adds up to a total of 62 points for today.

TheKnightOfNee Aug 3, 2007 01:49 AM

Oh man, I wish I would've noticed topics on this sooner. I'd love to try and get in on the next one of these.

And it looks like Zergrinch has good use of those two letter words.

Guru Aug 3, 2007 02:08 AM

Shoot I hadn't realized letters were in this thread, I thought they'd be pm'ed =O

Move 1:

Added TURBARIES, puralizing DRAIN (which is now DRAINS).

TURBARIES:
(1 + 1 + 1 + 3 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1)*2 = 22

DRAINS:
(2 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1) = 7

29 points.

MOVE 2:

Added OBOE to TURBARIES.

(1 + 3 + 1 + 1)*2 = 12

41 total points for today, letters left: T-O

Rockgamer Aug 3, 2007 02:28 AM

Okay, I replaced the blank in BOOZER/ROOF with an R, and I used the blank to play the word REQUEST off of RE for 35 points. Then I played the word MONK off of JOULE for 18 points.

So my total score for today is 53 points (total score 85), and the letters I have left are N-N-V-R-I-N.

EDIT: I posted my words before Guru, but I got sidetracked and didn't post in the thread until after he went.

If no one has any objections, I don't mind letting you have 4 turns on Sunday. You can make your 2 moves, then I'll draw more letters for you. Although you said tomorrow was Saturday, and technically we've still got Friday to go.

Guru, OBOE is only worth 6 points, because you used the Double Word Score on TURBARIES.

EDIT: New tiles are up for today, and scores are updated. We've got 2 more blanks in the mix now, and I've got too many vowels. :(

Yeldarb Aug 3, 2007 09:47 AM

I place down ZYGOTE(which is in the listing). Also I take the [] in REQUEST and replace it with my U.

So, (10 + 4 + 2 + (1*3) + 1 + 1)*2 = 42 points.

Zergrinch Aug 3, 2007 09:59 AM

I put down BOSN, under WAR, and substituting the blank for an S.

BOSON
31011 = 6*2 = 08

WO
41 = 5 = 05

NOVAS
11410 = 7*2 = 14

This move earns 27 points.

It seems I can't multiply (but I can add!) Move changed due to tile change.

I could have sworn I have NIGGLE left over. Where's my letter I? :x

nuttyturnip Aug 3, 2007 10:10 AM

My mistake; I believe I crossed it off when you made VINED, thinking you had used the I. Very well, that means I drew 1 too many tiles for you today, so I'll lop off the last A and add back the I.

Also, 6x2 is 12 last time I checked. :)

I replaced the blank in EFFACE with a C, and played SMITE, for a total of 36 points. I've got no idea what I'll do for my second turn, since all I've got are vowels and a blank.

Zergrinch Aug 3, 2007 10:21 AM

Very well. Since my tiles have changed, I wish to take back my first move.

I still use my blank tile as an [S], and put down BELONGING[S] on HEAP.

BELONGINGS
3111121120 = 13 * (2+2) = 52

SH
04 = 4

Turn 1 = 52 + 4 = 56.

I put down FORA on the L in BELONGINGS, forming FLORA.

FLORA
41111 = 16 * 2
3

Turn 2 = 32.

That uses up my entire tile set, giving me a bingo.

To summarize:

Turn 1: 56
Turn 2: 32
Bingo: 50

Total: 138

nuttyturnip Aug 3, 2007 10:57 AM

Since you moved BELONGINGS to be on HEAP instead of ZYGOTE, your score dropped to 138. Kudos for the bingo, though; I'm going to have to take the gloves off and step up my game.

Domino Aug 3, 2007 11:17 AM

Adding GUY onto ZYGOTE and then GAINED onto the G of GUY using my [] as a D. Scores later.

Oh I forgot we're going by Scrabble Days. Thus, for my last 2 turns (does it count as 2 turns used?) of this week (Friday):

- Stealing the blank in GAINED, and replacing it with my D
- BY = 15
- []TYMY/STYMY (blank is 'S') = 22

Total: 37

Summonmaster Aug 3, 2007 02:43 PM

How troublesome of me with all my issues, hehe.
My true final move should be:

- JOY off of []TYMY/STYMY = 26 points

Tiles Left: A-B-L-N-N-R-R

Smelnick Aug 3, 2007 06:23 PM

I put down OUTROAR for 9 points and ROD for 12 points to make a total of 21 points.

Zergrinch Aug 3, 2007 07:36 PM

I am totally waiting for Mr. Tritoch to spell out the 10-letter nick of a GFF staff member using the current tiles he has :p

The Plane Is A Tiger Aug 3, 2007 08:14 PM

Thanks for the tip, Zerg! =D

I've layed down ENCEPHALON for a total of 42 points by my calculation.

Zergrinch Aug 3, 2007 08:17 PM

I object. ENCEPGELBN is not a valid word :tpg:

nuttyturnip Aug 3, 2007 08:23 PM

Don't say that; the Ace Combat nuts might hear you.

Rockgamer Aug 3, 2007 08:47 PM

For now, I'm gonna play OVEN off of Encephalon, which nets me 24 points, plus 2 points for also making the word ON, for a total of 26 points on my first turn. I'll take my second turn later.

Yeldarb Aug 3, 2007 08:53 PM

I place down NONTOXIC for my last move.

For 54 points.

nuttyturnip Aug 3, 2007 10:00 PM

I made AORTAE (which I assume is the plural of aorta), using my blank as an R, for a whopping 10 points. Stupid vowels.

In case anyone hadn't noticed, 1) I've been putting the blanks and what they are at the top of the board; please update if you take or place a blank, 2) Zergrinch made a handy tool to calculate word scores, which is in a separate tab on the game board. ONLY EDIT THE YELLOW BOXES.

Don't be shocked if letters aren't updated promptly at 10am tomorrow or Sunday, since it's the weekend and I'll sleep in if I can. I probably won't be too late though, especially tomorrow. The cat never lets me sleep in. :(

The Plane Is A Tiger Aug 3, 2007 11:12 PM

I layed down YUAN (7) which also formed ZA (11). What do either of those mean? Not a clue, but apparently they're words!

Toss me another 18 points. It isn't much, but at least I'm still in 3rd place.

Zergrinch Aug 4, 2007 12:47 AM

Incorrect. You're in fourth place, and Summonmaster has yet to make a move.

The Plane Is A Tiger Aug 4, 2007 01:40 AM

What are you talking about? I'm two points ahead of Summonmaster and he's used both of his moves today.

Zergrinch Aug 4, 2007 02:24 AM

Okay. I officially hate these gangster names...

Rockgamer Aug 4, 2007 05:27 AM

Okay, first off, I'm taking the blank from AORTAE and I'm switching it with an R. Then, I'm going to play the word ANNOUNCER off of TURBARIES for 32 points.

Grawl Aug 4, 2007 07:22 AM

I once again put down WAR and HEIR.

nuttyturnip Aug 4, 2007 09:32 AM

New letters for the day are up.

Also, I've removed Tritoch's YUAN/ZA from the board because his remaining letters at the time were YNIUI (as posted in the first post); he didn't have an A. He loses the 18 points he would have gained from the move and forfeits the turn.

Zergrinch Aug 4, 2007 09:50 AM

Famous last words, eh Tritoch? :p

Anyhow, I put down ADENOMAT on FLORA, forming ADENOMATA. Score computed as 48 points.

I put down YOU on PEON, forming PEONY (10) and YOU (12), total of 22 for the second turn.

Letters left over are AEI.

Total points for the day is 70.

Smelnick Aug 4, 2007 09:54 AM

Alright, I laid down the word HOUDAH on top of HEIR to get a total of 30 points, and then on the end of that one I laid down THORAX to get 51 points. thus giving me a total of 81 points.

Rockgamer Aug 4, 2007 02:09 PM

I switched out the blank on ANNOUNCER with a C and the blank on BELONGINGS with an S and used them to make the word OVERTRAINED off of GAINED for 45 points.

Grawl Aug 4, 2007 05:50 PM

First turn goes to DECK
This leaves '-I-A-O-A-O-O-W-E-A-E-' remaining. I'll use my second turn to exchange A, O, E (one of each)

Actually, you get 70 points, since the double and triple word scores add up.

You get U-S-L in return.

EDIT: I layed down AURA (4 points) and INFORMER (40 points).

Zergrinch Aug 4, 2007 07:39 PM

I hereby steal the blank [E] in Overtrained, swapping it for my E.

Damn, I was so obsessed with trying to land on that TWS that I totally overlooked the DWS (and I added it up wrong to boot). I should definitely start using that score computator.

Domino Aug 4, 2007 08:52 PM

Laying down EVZONE on the ON of ENCEPHALON and ON.
VOX off the V of EVZONE.

EDIT: Which I think adds upto 48

EVZONE = 19
VOX = 29

Yeldarb Aug 4, 2007 11:37 PM

I place down CHIN and DIVINE.

Both give me 52 points.

nuttyturnip Aug 5, 2007 12:52 AM

You can't play EVZONE because you've only got one E. Because VOX was played off of that word, I removed both from the board. You forfeit one turn, and you have until 10am (8 hours from now) to use your remaining turn.

Guru Aug 5, 2007 01:09 AM

Sorry guys, I kinda fell off the wagon because I had medical woes this weekend. It's pretty much a waste for me to even try to compete now.

The Plane Is A Tiger Aug 5, 2007 01:22 AM

Alright, I laid down DEFINE (20) and PAVE (17).

Rockgamer Aug 5, 2007 01:45 AM

I played ANY off of Announcer for 14 points.

Domino Aug 5, 2007 05:52 AM

Whoops. Thats what I get for trying to this at 3am. Lemme try again.

EDIT: Ok then, ZAX off the first A of AURA for a point score of 27.

nuttyturnip Aug 5, 2007 09:48 AM

New tiles are up for the day. Smelnick's stuck with a nasty group of vowels, and Tritoch gets another blank to throw into the mix.

Zergrinch Aug 5, 2007 10:00 AM

I have both S and N. I hereby steal the [S] and [N] tiles.

After mulling it over, I will put down:

ADOPTEE (on DEFINE), with a blank substituting for the P

This forms ADOPTEE (28) AN (4) and DE (3) for a total of 35

My second word is PLLINIA, using the O in OVERTRAINED. Blank tiles are substituted for P and N.

This forms POLLINIA (18)

I have no letters left. This entitles me to a bingo (50).

To summarize:
Turn 1: 35
Turn 2: 18
Bingo!: 50
Total: 103

Domino Aug 5, 2007 11:43 AM

FEZ onto the Z of ZAX. Score is 23.

EDIT: FOAM onto the F of FEZ. Score is 16, I think.

Letters remaining V-K-G-V-O-W-K-P-F

nuttyturnip Aug 5, 2007 12:22 PM

It appears this game has become a battle for second place. :(

I placed SWIVEL (which formed YOKELS) and GOAL (which formed AL) for a total score of 53 points.

Smelnick Aug 5, 2007 02:38 PM

I placed down EGREGIOUS for 26 points, and JIG for another 22 points. That makes a total of 48 points.

Yeldarb Aug 5, 2007 06:05 PM

I take the [N] and replace it with my N.

I take back that action.(if I'm allowed)

I create SOVEREIGN for a cool 78 points.(72 if I'm not allowed)

I'll exchange U, U, and V for my last turn.

Rockgamer Aug 5, 2007 09:14 PM

Okay, first I played DIALOGUE off of Adoptee for 20 points. Then I switched the blanks in Pollinia for a P and an N and played VEXATION for 17 points. That used up all my tiles, giving me a bingo and 50 extra points, so in total my score is 87.

nuttyturnip Aug 5, 2007 10:30 PM

The Plane Is A Tiger Aug 6, 2007 01:04 AM

Alright, for my first move I've taken the O blank and used it to form MESOTHORAX for a cool 54 points. I'll follow that up with a nice LANEWAY for 30 points.

Summonmaster Aug 6, 2007 02:10 AM

Guh! Missing two days rapes my score and attempting to make 4 turns at 2:30 am doesn't help much :s Anyhoo, let's see what I can conjure:

- stealing blank from "SOVE[]EIGN" and replacing with "R"
- M[]LARKY/(MALARKY) off of "MONK" = 36 points
- BONNET + TO off of "OVEN" and "NONTOXIC" = 10+2 = 12
- BIND off of "TEND" = 7
- 50 points for a bingo!
- 1 extra turn left to use! :o

Total: 105 points
Tiles Left:

The Plane Is A Tiger Aug 6, 2007 02:23 AM

I object to your bingo.

It took you three turns, more than one day's supply, to do it. Nutty's long-since gone to bed now, so while I've got no problems with you using the letters you have for a third turn, that bingo bonus shouldn't count and the fourth turn shouldn't carry over.

Zergrinch Aug 6, 2007 06:50 AM

I concur with Tritoch. No bingo bonus, unless you clear 14 tiles in 2 moves.

nuttyturnip Aug 6, 2007 07:49 AM

As Tritoch and Zergrinch pointed out, Summonmaster's bingo doesn't count. I intended for him to take 2 turns, then draw more letters. I have removed BIND from the board. If Summonmaster can take 2 turns today while I'm awake, I'll draw him more letters and then he can take 2 more.

Since I'll be in a meeting at 10am, I've updated the first post with letters for today; 2 more blanks in play now.

Smelnick Aug 6, 2007 08:35 AM

Laying down KNOWLEDGE for 26 points and JANE for another 36 which makes a total of 62 points for today

The day hadn't started yet when you posted them, so I took them off the chart. If you want to put them back now, you can.

Grawl Aug 6, 2007 09:26 AM

I'm putting down DOS, which turns O into DOS and DEFINE into DEFINES.
I use my second turn to trade I-A-O

Zergrinch Aug 6, 2007 09:33 AM

I steal a blank tile, and substitute it with my A.

For my first move, I put down LIO on the L in MALARKY, forming LILO (4).

For my second move, I put down CASEWORKERS on LILO, forming LILOS (5) and CASEWORKERS (88). The blank I just swiped, I use as [C].

I have no tiles left.

To summarize:

Turn 1: 4
Turn 2: 93
Bingo!: 50

Total: 147

Summonmaster Aug 6, 2007 11:56 AM

Whoops! Looks like I clearly can't read '_';
For my initial two turns of the day then:

- PENGUIN off of "SOVEREIGN" = 24
- I[]VOICE/(INVOICE) off of "EGREGIOUS" = 26

Total = 50
Tiles Left = B-O

Awaiting letters :)

nuttyturnip Aug 6, 2007 12:34 PM

Scores are updated, but I've got to go into a meeting. I'll draw your letters when I get out in an hour.

The Plane Is A Tiger Aug 6, 2007 12:37 PM

Owned by bureaucracy. I'd lay down a word relating to government to give this post a bit more impact, but I'm heading out at the moment too.

nuttyturnip Aug 6, 2007 01:25 PM

Mondays are busy for me now that I have to go to the weekly staff meetings. Not too busy for Scrabble, though.

Grawl draws O-O-Y (not much help there)

Summonmaster draws D-E-N-A-P-R-N-L-N-E-B-D for his second set of turns (to go with the B-O he has).

EDIT: I made TUFA for 14 points and ZETA for 69 points, for a total of 83 points today.

Domino Aug 6, 2007 04:03 PM

Added GANEV onto PENGUIN. Second word to follow No E.

Words to follow

CODA on DEFINES and CHIN

FAVA on CODA

CODA = 7
FAVA= 20

letters remaining - K, V, O, W, K, G, P, I, G

The humiliation is big enough with the score I have, so I can cope.

The Plane Is A Tiger Aug 6, 2007 09:08 PM

First off, I replace the blank in INVOICE with an N. Then I play JEJUNA off of it for a total of 40 points.

For my second turn I layed down RETINA using my blank for an E for 20 points, giving me a total of 60 points for today. Theoretically.

Yeldarb Aug 6, 2007 10:36 PM

I replace the blank with my M and place down VERIFY and HYDRO for 74 points.

Rockgamer Aug 6, 2007 11:26 PM

Okay, I played JOINTING off of Retina for 64 points. Then, I switched my E for the blank in Verify and played ISLANDER, also off of Retina, for 18 points. This gives me a bingo so add another 50 points and I get 132 points in total.

The Plane Is A Tiger Aug 6, 2007 11:37 PM

Damn, I guess RETINA was a pretty terrible word for me to lay down.

Summonmaster Aug 6, 2007 11:46 PM

- Exchanged "[]" and "P" in "ADO[]TEE"
- Exchanged "[]" and "E" in "V[]XATION"
- []ORBADE (FORBADE) off of "I[]LANDER" = 36
- DOER off "GOAL" = 8
--subsequently, ED=2, RE=2, ED=2, all off of "EGREGIOUS" as part of "DOER"

Total = 50
Tiles Left = L-N-N-N-[]

Anything that helps in taking down Zerg is good, right?

Okay, who am I kidding, that ain't gonna happen.

nuttyturnip Aug 7, 2007 08:19 AM

*Sigh*

I go to sleep and you guys screw things up. After making JOINTING, Rockgamer has I-D-L-[]-A-E-L left (2 Ls but no N). Thus, he cannot make ISLANDER, does not get a bingo, and forfeits that turn.

After playing FORBADE, Summonmaster has N-N-L-N-B-D-E-[] left. (a B but no R). Thus, in order to make DOER, he must use his blank for the R, which I changed on the board and adjusted his score accordingly.

New letters are up; another blank for Zergrinch. Remember, when placing or removing blanks, please update the blank status at the top of the game board.

Zergrinch Aug 7, 2007 09:28 AM

I swipe a blank tile, replacing it with my E (from RETINA).

After mulling it over, I will do the following:

Put OEVOLUTION on the [C] in CASEWORKERS, forming COEVOLUTION (with my two blanks as V and U), for 32 points.

Put I LAG on V in VEXATION, forming a nice VILLAGE, for 22 points.

Guess what, no more letters again :D

To summarize:

Turn 1: 32
Turn 2: 22
Bingo!: 50
Total: 104

**Hidden Content**

Smelnick Aug 7, 2007 10:54 AM

I layed down DRAWL for 39 points and DEPILATE for 36 points.

Grawl Aug 7, 2007 12:19 PM

I'm gonna lose anyway, so I put down YO and want to exchange:

O-O-E-E

Summonmaster Aug 7, 2007 12:57 PM

Iya~! My apologies, there's always one problem or another with me. XD

- Exchanged "[]" with "R" in "DOE[]"
- NONIL[]ION (NONILLION) off of "JOINTING" = 32 (quadra word score?)
- QI off of "SMITE" = 31

Total = 63
Tiles Left= A-B-N-P-T

Rockgamer Aug 7, 2007 03:36 PM

Okay, first I switched the blank in Verify with one of my I's, and then I played the word VALEDICTORIAN off of Coevolution for 30 points. Then I played the word AAL (uh, yeah) for 6 points and the bingo. That gives me 86 points in total.

Domino Aug 7, 2007 03:58 PM

Added VROW and GOURD

VROW = 15
GOURDE = 9

Unfortunately, after you make VALEDICTORIAN (using the E in COEVOLUTION) you're left with the letters E-L. Therefore, you can't make AAL (AEL isn't a word), and you don't bingo.

Also, Grawl drew O-N-S-I.

EDIT: I picked up the blank U in COEVOLUTION. I played AIDS, which gave me AX and REQUESTS as well for 33 points, and PUREE for 14 points.

Yeldarb Aug 8, 2007 12:31 AM

I place down BRAWL for 20 points and I'll exchange U and U.

The Plane Is A Tiger Aug 8, 2007 03:48 AM

I'm playing DISSAVE for 15 points and then playing TUI on top of that for an additional 19 points (TUI+TI+US+IS). That brings my score for today up to 34 points. Hopefully all that math is correct.

nuttyturnip Aug 8, 2007 08:24 AM

The letters are updated for today.

Zergrinch Aug 8, 2007 09:18 AM

I trade the blank T in valedictorian for my T, and the blank V in Coevolution for my V.

For my first move, I'm putting down ARBURIZE on the C in VALEDICTORIAN, forming CARBURIZE, using a blank as an I. This move earns 64 points.
For my second move, I place WAKADA on the N in PENGUIN, forming WAKANDA, using a blank as a K. This move earns 20 points.

Total for today: 84
Move 1: 64
Move 2: 20

nuttyturnip Aug 8, 2007 09:47 AM

What, no bingo today? You're slipping, Zergrinch.

Zergrinch Aug 8, 2007 09:52 AM

The tiles I drew were not very friendly! ;___;

Domino Aug 8, 2007 10:55 AM

Only added LIKING for now.

Score for this move is 16. Letter remaining K, O, P, O, I, T, L, E

Second move to come later

nuttyturnip Aug 8, 2007 11:24 AM

I used my first turn to exchange U-B-E-V-E-E-I-I-I.

EDIT: Actually, when I count out Zergrinch's letters, he did bingo after all. :(

Domino Aug 8, 2007 11:40 AM

Added ROOKIE which has also made ERE

ROOKIE = 12
ERE = 6
LIKING = 16

TOTAL = 34

Letters left T, L, P

nuttyturnip Aug 8, 2007 01:30 PM

FYI, you guys make so many scoring errors (often counting multipliers when they've already been used), I've stopped mentioning them here. I just put the correct scores into the detailed spreadsheet.

For my second turn, I picked up the S blank in MESOTHORAX, then I made PEDESTA[], which also forms NONILLIONS and RETINA[], for a total of 37 points (blank=L).

Grawl Aug 8, 2007 04:25 PM

For the first time in this game I can make a fucking normal word.

POISON.

Second turn goes to WEE. Because I'm awesome like that.

Smelnick Aug 8, 2007 05:02 PM

Okay Dokey. I laid down EYESPOTS for a total of 21 points and then I laid down AGAZE for a total of 45 points. thus making a grand total of 66

The Plane Is A Tiger Aug 9, 2007 12:52 AM

Alright, I've layed down YABBIE (19) and BELON (24) for a total of 43 points. Is my math wrong? Quite possibly!

Summonmaster Aug 9, 2007 12:54 AM

Plenty of work required to remain in the top 5, and wowee, enough vowels for me :s

- exchanging "I" for ""[]" in CARBUR[]ZE (CARBURIZE)
- PAINTIN[] (PAINTING) off of "VERIFY" = 30
- ABATE off of "AGAZE" = 26

Total: 56
Tiles Left: A-A-A (-_-);

Rockgamer Aug 9, 2007 03:29 AM

Note: Summonmaster forgot to update the blanks. He took the I but didn't update it with his G.

Okay, first I switched my L, L, and S for blanks (from NONILLION, RETINAL/PEDESTAL, and REQUESTS/AIDS respectively). Then I played the word [F]IREBO[M]B off of Brawl for 33 points. Then I played the word JUVE[N]ILE off of Firebomb for 21 points and the bingo. My total score at the moment is 104, until nutty comes in and finds my error and adjusts it accordingly. ;_;

I swear, Rock's going to think I'm cheating him, but I'm not. His letters after picking up the blanks were E-[]-I-[]-R-B-E-U-J-I-[]-E-V-O (2 Is). Making FIREBOMB leaves him with []-E-U-J-I-E-V, and no L for JUVENILE. I think he mistook his extra I for an L, but unfortunately, he can't make JUVENILE and doesn't bingo.

EDIT: Today's tiles are up; Yeldarb never took his turns yesterday. There are 18 tiles remaining. Tomorrow, I'll split the tiles evenly among the participants (2 tiles per player); players will have unlimited turns to do what they can with the remaining tiles (no bingos, obviously).

The Plane Is A Tiger Aug 9, 2007 09:38 AM

I laid down GRIBBLES using my blank as its E, also forming ABATES for a total of 31 points. I also replaced the blank in JUVENILES with my N.

Spoiler:
I realize that's GRUUUUUUMBLES but I can't help thinking of it.

Zergrinch Aug 9, 2007 09:48 AM

I steal the C in Coevolution, replacing it with my own C.

I steal the L in Nonillions, replacing it with my own L.

The Plane Is A Tiger Aug 9, 2007 09:51 AM

Uh... I'm replacing the I blank. Could someone tell me where the hell it IS?

EDIT: Apparently some idiot just didn't capitalize his L. l and I are identical on the board.

Zergrinch Aug 9, 2007 10:27 AM

For my first turn, I lay down JIGSAW on TEND, forming JIGSAW and TENDS for 52 points. One blank substitutes for G.

For my second turn, I put FY on BELON, forming FLY and IF. This gains 26 points.

For the penultimate day, I get 78 points and no bingo.

Tiles remaining: THELLX

Summonmaster Aug 9, 2007 11:18 AM

- Switched "F" for "[]" in "F[]REBOMB" (FIREBOMB)
- JOLTI[]G (JOLTING) off of "JUVENILE" = 28
- WAGE off of "JOLTI[]G" (JOLTING) = 27

Total: 55
Tiles Left: A-A-A-M-U

Please uppercase letters, whoever put "IWS" and "TEXTS".

The Plane Is A Tiger Aug 9, 2007 12:34 PM

Alright, I'm replacing the blank in JOLTI[N]G with my N.

Then I'm laying down SANDPITS (12 points) with the two S's as blanks. This also forms CHINS (9 points) and AURAS (4 points). Oh yeah, and my first bingo of the game, baby (50 points)!

That adds up to a total of 75 points. I'd say that puts me back in the running for one of the top spots. =D

nuttyturnip Aug 9, 2007 02:32 PM

With my wonderful assortment of vowels, there wasn't much I could do, but here goes:

I replaced the blank in GRIBBLES with an E. I played YULE and []UAY/QUAY for a total score of 40 points. At least no one else will be getting that blank anytime soon.

Domino Aug 9, 2007 03:36 PM

Added KEITLOA for now. Second word to follow soon

EDIT: Added PIETY, using my [] as a Y

Letter left O, J, O

PIET[] = 6
KEITLOA = 13

TOTAL = 19

scores are probably wrong

Smelnick Aug 9, 2007 06:10 PM

I'm replacing the blank in FORBADE with my F

I put down UNWIELDIER for 18 points
I put down DODOES for 8 points

also 50 Points for a bingo

that makes 76 points

nuttyturnip Aug 9, 2007 10:09 PM

I'm feeling lazy, so I'll update the scores in the morning (I only promised to update once a day anyway).

Rockgamer Aug 10, 2007 04:24 AM

Time to try this again.

First I played ERE[C]TIVE off of Carburize for 28 points. Then I played HUGER, also off of Carburize, for 20 points. No bingo, so hopefully that means I got it right this time.

nuttyturnip Aug 10, 2007 07:50 AM

Everything was correct; now we just get to mock you for making ERECTIVE and HUGER at the same time.

Also, Smelnick failed to mention that he used a blank in DODOE[] (he would have had to). I corrected it on the board and his score.

Yeldarb seems to have dropped out of the game, since he's gone almost 2 days without a move. Odd, since he was in contention for the lead. I'll wait until closer to 10am to post today's letters, since if he doesn't use any, it'll affect how I distribute the remaining 18 tiles.

EDIT: Final letters are posted. I gave 3 letters to the 4 players with the least amount of letters, and 0 letters to Yeldarb and Grawl. Remember, everyone has unlimited turns today to make the most of whatever letters you have left.

Zergrinch Aug 10, 2007 10:49 AM

Turn 1 is X, on the I in SOVEREIGN, forming XI for 25 points.

I swap my G for the blank G in PAINTING.

Turn 2 is ELLS (S=[]), on DEPILATE, forming TELLS and COEVOLUTIONS, for 24 points.

Turn 3 is H, on WAKANDA, forming HA and HE, for 20 points.

Turn 4 is O, on the K in Caseworkers, forming KOI, for 14 points.

Turn 5 is T, under DOS, forming DOST, for 10 points.

Total haul for today is 93 points. I hereby finish with 992 points, just 18 short of my 1000 point goal :(

nuttyturnip Aug 10, 2007 11:10 AM

Turn 1: TAN and ON: 8 points

Note: I checked to see I wasn't duplicating any two letter words on the board by using Ctrl+F on all the letters I used for my two letter formations.

- Replace a "[]" in "SANDPITS" with my "S"
- GAR off of "PAINTING" and "HYDRO" = 8
- LAM off of "OUTROAR" = 6
--subsequently, MO off of "ROD"= 3
- []X (OX) off of "NONTOXIC" = 8
- ZA off of "ZOOM" = 11
- subsequently, AN off of "PEONY" = 2
- AI off of "COEVOLUTION" = 2
--subsequently, AY off of "YO" = 5
- NU off of ADENOMATA = 2

Total = 47

I don't know of any rule that says you can't make duplicate words. Also, LAM is worth 4 points, not 6. I clarify because that 2 point reduction means you're currently tied with me for 2nd.

Wierd, I thought I had calculated it with 0 points for the blank. guess I miscounted. Doesn't that still count as a bingo though?

Additional Spam:
Alright. I layed down BIT for 3 points

I exchanged my O for the [] in OX, and layed it down at the end of ROD to form RODS for another 3 points.

this gives me 6 points in total. HUZZAH!! an epic last move.

It's still a bingo, yes. I gave you the points for it.

Laid down AERO which also makes OP. Also laid down KOPJE

AERO = 4
OP = 3
KOPJE = 18

Total = 25

Do I get bingo for only taking two turns and using all my letters? If so, 75 points in total.

Alright, using up my final three letters:

- I lay down the I to form PI and ID for a total of 7 points (using the P of EYESPOTS).
- The A forms ZA and AE for a total of 13 points (using the Z from CARBURIZE).
- Finally, my B creates BA and BI on a double word score for 16 points (using the A from WAR).

That comes to a grand total of 36 points. Unfortunately, that leaves me just 6 points shy of making this a three-way tie for second place and I can't find a move to get those. :(

DUB off of Abates for 10 points
NOD off of Nonillions/Forbade for 8 points
PI off of Depilate for 6 points
EN off of Dodoes for 4 points

Total: 53
