GFF Risk 7 - This time, it's personal
GAME OVER, YELDARB WINS!
Everyone gets 4 turns per day. All players begin with 1 Tank, 1 Energy Boost and 20 gil. LINK TO RULES IN WIKI Additions to the rules -If you control all 6 bodies of water, you gain 2 extra attacks during the day. -Bodies of water do not count towards Warlord status, but they do count towards total number of countries (the ultimate measure of who wins). I think I’ll continue this rule as well, but don’t expect a ton of creativity. At the beginning of each day (starting Wednesday), I will award a new item to all surviving players. These items may be traded, but they will not be transferred as spoils of war. If a player has one of these items in their possession upon death, that item will be lost. Weapons of the Day 7/18 - Simply Majestic Clone: When deployed, an SMC will annoy and distract your chosen opponent with its inane banter, causing them to have a 10% chance of their attacks failing. The effect of the clones is cummulative, meaning if 3 clones are deployed against a player, then that player would have a 30% chance of each of their attacks failing. 7/19 - Legion's Satanic Intervention: Legion will slaughter a goat as a sacrifice to the Dark Lord on your behalf. This has a 5/6 chance of taking one turn from the player of your choice and adding that turn to your own, but a 1/6 chance of giving your opponent an extra turn instead. If your opponent gets the extra turn, they have until the end of the following day to use it. 7/20 - Fjordor's War and Peace: You may employ Fjordor to upload his lengthy tome to one opponent's network, causing it to overload. As a result, said opponent will be unable to submit numbers for attacks and defense for the day (I will supply random numbers instead). This item doesn't prevent them from attacking, it just removes their ability to select which numbers they use. 7/21 - bobo's charity drive: bobo is always looking for money, either to fund his lavish trips to the Caribbean, or other "side" projects. When you use this item against an opponent, bobo will count their total number of actions for the day (including item usage), and take that amount in gil from them and give it to you. For example, if Player X attacks 4 times and uses 2 items, then you would get 6 gil. 7/22 - NYRSkate's Highly Ineffective Mongoose: Use this like a Tank, but it only has a 1 in 3 chance of working. Arms Dealer (15) Tanks: Take over one state on the map. Automatic win in battle. (15) Energy Boost: Gain 2 extra turns for the day. (20) Spies: Find out the items that all other players possess, find out what items are in play (such as Ninjas), and see all numbers submitted in for attacks/defenses against you for one day. This item's use won't be announced. If the user approves, I will go ahead and submit the statistically optimal number on their behalf, to keep the game moving. (20) Chemical Weapons: An opponent loses 3 turns for the day. (20) Satellite Defenses: Defend against all item use for one day (like other defenses, must be used preemptively). This item’s use won’t be announced. THIS ITEM CANNOT BE USED ON THE LAST DAY. (25) Blitzkrieg: Conquer 2 adjoining territories. Automatic win in battle. (30) Atomic Bomb: Take over at least 1 state, with the possibility of taking up to 4 adjoining states. When using this item, post the 4 states you want, in order of priority. I’ll roll a die, and determine how many you’ll actually take (1-4). (30) Ninjas: Send in 2 numbers for every attack and defense you make during one day (doubles your chances of winning each battle). This item's use won't be announced. Limited to 3 uses per game. (35) Death Ray: Conquer 3 adjoining territories at once. Automatic win in battle. Alliance Items: These items are purchased by 2 players together, either by both PMing me or both posting in the thread. The purchase price and the spoils are split evenly. (40) Double Team: Conquer any 2 countries and take 2 turns (which you can use yourself) from an opposing player. (80) Shock and Awe: Conquer 6 adjoining territories and make each affected player lose 1 turn (if they have any remaining). The weapon for today is the Simply Majestic Clone. A rogue mad scientist has created clones of Simply Majestic, and as part of his devious experiment, he's given each of you one clone of your own. When deployed, an SMC will annoy and distract your chosen opponent with its inane banter, causing them to have a 10% chance of their attacks failing. The effect of the clones is cummulative, meaning if 3 clones are deployed against a player, then that player would have a 30% chance of each of their attacks failing.

It's really silly to post attacks, then make the rest of us wait 24 hours because you didn't send any numbers. Zergrinch posted 6 attacks yesterday (2 at 9:06am, and 4 at 11:28pm). Unless he's using his energy boost, the last 2 attacks are nullified. Please let me know, Zerg. Clarifying the Atomic Bomb once again, it covers 1 country and up to 3 others, for a possible total of 4 countries. Lots of results to sort through, so I'll post those in a little while. |

You're right, I missed nikiri last night. You only needed to purchase 1 Tank, since you still have the initial one from the start of the game. With the 2 Tank attacks, knkwzrd is the first to be eliminated from the game.

Today's item is Fjordor's War and Peace. You may employ Fjordor to upload his lengthy tome to one opponent's network, causing it to overload. As a result, said opponent will be unable to submit numbers for attacks and defense for the day (I will supply random numbers instead). This item doesn't prevent them from attacking, it just removes their ability to select which numbers they use. As always, this weapon works chronologically, so it doesn't work on battles posted before you use the item.

Well, considering Zergrinch is around at 9am every morning anyway to make it official, it really didn't need to be preemptive. He and Smelnick both confirmed the purchase and the plan with me last night, and Zerg posted here, so it's not really all that preemptive. At any rate, a Double Team takes turns, and other weapons like that can be used preemptively.

Yeah, Zerg posting here before me is the main reason I'm not arguing it. The item itself is iffy since it also takes countries and you can't use Tanks and such pre-emptively.

As I explained to Zerg last night, only the turn stealing portion of the weapon could be used preemptively. His attacks wouldn't have been effective until he posted them. I agree, it's a gray area, but a weapon that takes turns is difficult to use if you can't do it preemptively.

The item for today is bobo's charity drive. bobo's always looking for money, either to fund his lavish trips to the Caribbean, or other "side" projects. When you use this item against an opponent, bobo will count their total number of actions for the day (including item usage), and take that amount in gil from them and give it to you. For example, if Player X attacks 4 times and uses 2 items, then you would get 6 gil.

No attacks yet, but I'd like to add that the post editing yesterday was really annoying. Yeldarb's post that ended up with a tank that couldn't actually be used was edited 3-4 times, and Zerg didn't edit that Blitzkrieg into his until nearly three hours later after there were several more posts in the thread.
It's a cheap way of making your attacks easy to miss. I'd also like to use a Legion's Satanic Intervention on Zergrinch and a Simply Majestic Clone Yeldarb. |

That's not a contingency plan so much as a cheap way of making sure someone is dead without bothering to coordinate much.

The real problem seems more that you can't take Zerg's nagging, since that's the only thing preventing you from making a clear ruling. Is it really that hard to just define the rules for contingencies rather than taking them away completely because one player continually abuses them? Something like:
- Only to be used if the player will be unable to check GFF for a day or a player is coordinating an important attack. - No Zergrinch, not every attack is important. - Targets must be defined and not "whatever he has left after ____ finishes his attacks." |

I will most likely define contingencies, and limit them to once or twice a game (the player can determine the importance, since they'll be limited). While I admit I have been using contingencies with frequency this game, I assure you that it isn't per day, and I only reserve the contingencies for pivotal occasions like trying to knock out other players before they get a chance to post their attacks. Identity Crisis has proven remarkably resilient in the past game, despite 3 of my attempts to knock him out.

Definitely a crazy night. Yeldarb and RockgamerXIII are no longer Warlords, and for the moment, neither is Zergrinch. RockgamerXIII inexplicably forgot to send in 2 defense numbers against Zergrinch. Yeah, I was telling Tritoch on AIM last night how both the map and the chart weren't updated. I had to go back through all the actions just to figure out what countries Zerg had.
But yeah, otherwise, this was a good game. I think I did pretty good for being out the last three games, so I'm not disappointed with 4th place. I don't know how eager I would be to play another game anytime soon, though. |

I meant to stop in and offer my congratulations to Yeldarb earlier, so I suppose I'll do that now. He was overdue for a win after all these games, and with the lack of easy Shock & Awes this time he earned it well.
At least this game didn't end with everyone thinking they still had a day to use up their arsenals! |
