I like their graphical design, but almost half of these icons are totally useless. How are we supposed to filter relevant threads with all these redundant tags?

Yeah I think AcerBandit had the right idea in mind when he proposed a division of ''Awesome shit'' and ''Boring shit'', then you could just filter all the boring stuff out and only get the awesome stuff AKA no one cares find something else to complain about

Seriously, what's the difference between "!!!", "Attn!" and "News" anyhow? And what's the "Amusing" tag for? What about DS threads that are amusing? Are we going to introduce multiple tags?

I don't know what anyone plans to do with "!!!" (it's not even in the prefix list yet), but "Attention" will be mostly for stickies and announcements like this one, while "News" will be, well, news (more of current industry matters than anything console specific).

There will be a way to filter multiple tags, so there's your relevant filtering right there.

Two things:
1. Wii icon looks jagged.
2. New XBOX/PSX icons don't match the other system's set up. Not like it matters since they'll probably never get used.

Alrighty, the story you guys don't know is all these tags were in one big image with several versions for various tags. !!! and Attn! were made for the same tag, Attention.

And wow, why are we not conforming full-fledged with keeping Paco's 360 tag? Oh and honestly, who is going to use Xbox tags? We might as well make a Gamecube tag. Xbox and Gamecube are dead. The PS2 is the only system from the last generation that is still getting a semi-steady flow of games. And while that Playstation logo is lovely and sort of stands for all Sony consoles even today, we have PS2 and PS3 tags so there's no reason for it.

For example, What videogame did you recently buy thread isn't a thread about one console or one handheld. Or perhaps a thread where you discuss your favorite videogame villains. Those kind of threads are General Discussion tag material.

Those are our tags. We may add more. There are certainly a few in the Online Gaming subforum that haven't been covered yet or need changing. This is a very good start to what I hope eventually makes the entire board a better place. We'll just have to wait and see.

I honestly don't care what they look like as long as they do a good job at speaking for themselves, are standardized somewhat, and that we have tag images for every tag.

Wow wow wow. We are so not allowing nor encouraging help threads. This place doesn't need to sink to gfaqs any further. I'm sure there will be uses for that tag later that don't involve asking how do i shot web, but I'm just reminding here.

I liked Paco's tags, but I don't mind these. Just as long as they're ALL consistent and not just some of them. That'd make the change redundant.

Also, I must have gotten here before the 360 tag was changed when I made my big post above, so I'm sorry about ranting and giving you shit about that Blah/Miles.

Well, if you have something better in mind, I think you're welcome to make your own tag versions, and if they do look better, we could switch. But we went like two months with half of the tags not having been uploaded at all, so I'm pretty sure Blah just got fed up with looking at broken images, and this is better than nothing.

I'll agree with that. The optimal situation, in my eyes at least, would have been to punch Paco in the kidneys until he got his lazy Mexican ass to work and finished the shit up.

There has been discussion of the Help and Question tags being confusing. I have trouble making good definitions to discern the two and if everyone is okay with it I have no problem with turning all Help tagged threads into Question tagged threads and removing the Help tag.

I still say quick gameplay related questions could go into the actual official game threads instead of actually being made into question topics, but question tagged stuff could be fine if it were general enough and didn't fit into an existing game's or console's thread. Yeah, basically that's the idea behind it anyway. There's always the possibility that the person is asking a question or for help for a game that has a thread that hasn't been responded to in months or doesn't have a thread and he/she doesn't want to make a thread for said game. Or it might not even be about a game at all. But yeah it should be made noted above. I'll keep that in mind.

Well, I'd prefer to not have icons at all, hence my using the light set + asking for the text links.

But if I had to choose one, I do prefer the little pixel-console icons, even if a few were broken.

Normally, I would have been happy to make a whole buttload of icons for you guys, but these days I no longer have the free time to do so.

Well, the thing to keep in mind is that this is a layout that we'll be doing for ALL threads on the board if we can get this thing rolling right.

Look, if I want to filter DS threads, I want to see all DS threads and not miss out on the discussions about DS games tagged as "Rumour", "Rant", "Amusing" or :plant: by some jerk.

The only way I see this setup working is if we allow for multiple tags - and I think we can all agree that that's the point where things are getting way out of proportion for a forum this size.

These icons could probably be half the size the are right now. They are taking up too much space.

surasshu, I don't want to open the can of worms on options with certain staff members again. We'll have one concise overarching set and style.

Rock, staff will make sure that tags are used appropriately. If it's a thread for a DS thread then it'll be marked as so. If it's a rumor thread then it's a rumor thread be it DS, PS2, whatever. Once it becomes official then a new thread can be created with the proper tag.

I've laid out what the tags should be used for. That should be enough. We've discussed multiple tags before and it would be way too much work for Blah and also seems unnecessary. These tags should cover everything. If you don't think so then tell me what tags should be added. I mean, I guess we could have a Let's Play tag for Brady's thread and The Dopefish's thread that fall under that category.

Cetra, I do agree that they could be a couple pixels shorter but I'm curious as to the resolution you are using.

Just thought I'd chime in to say I'm pleased with the new tags. I could have lived with the other ones, but these are ok too, especially :plant:.

Oh and :brainexplosion: at the number of tags. I guess if it's best for the community, then it'll be fine. I can suffer a few :brainexplosion:s to make GFF a happier place! ='D (By my logic: new tags = happiness...hmm...)

These are probably the best ones yet. The only two that bug me are the PS2 and 360 ones. Especially the 360 one, there's just something about it that makes me want to punch it or something. I think the font is a little too fat, and the abbreviation could do with an "X" in front of it.

I like the way they look, and think that a few of them could be useful over in the anime area too. But very nice, helps color cordinate the side of the page so ya can figure out what your lookin at even if your completely ignorant like me :D about what system games are coming out on now. Ive been out of the gaming loop too long -_- the corps sucks

Actually I run a desktop resolution 1920x1200. However, its just the large percentage of space each icon uses when considering their purpose. I know the actual row height is determined by the topic cell but the width of the column could be cut down a whole lot. A 40x20 pixel size for the icons would probably look a whole lot better.

I think these tags are plenty, barring specific ones for other sections like anime and manga tags. If anything, I feel like we could do without some of these, but I can see how they all have their function so I wouldn't know which ones that would be.

You can always remove some tags if it turns out they're never used.

Well obviously, each forum will have their specific tags. We just haven't gotten around to making tag images or tags for certain (read most) forums yet. Animespot and Media Centre are likely the next we are to work on once we have these tags and the Video Gaming forum in order.

Cetra, we use the same monitor resolution then. That's cool. I'll take your suggestion and see what that looks like. And yes the topic cell does determine how big it's going to be but who knows if that will change or not.
