E3 Nintendo Conference
The Nintendo E3 Conference just ended. And hopefully most of you all just finished watching it live from Gamespot, IGN, or Kotaku and just got a wonderful blast of videogame news and revelations. This thread is for the discussion of things that occurred during the conference. Yes, you may go and create a thread for Wii Fit and other games showed in the conference (that don't already have threads) and you may talk about these in the Official Wii thread (once I've made it)
So how about that! 3 new Wii devices. A balance unit for Wii Fit that opens up a whole mess of possibilities. The Wii Zapper has gone from a shotgun design to a shell for your Wii Controller and Nunchuk which is genius. I honestly think it should only cost 10 bucks but I'll still buy a second one for 20. And I wonder how the wheel for Mario Kart will be different from that attachment that Ubisoft made. I'm really liking what Nintendo is doing to expand the Wii. The dates for games are great as well. We're going to finally be getting the games we were promised and more come this final quarter. Blow off the dust on your Wii. I didn't like the bit that Reggie did about Nintendo not being serious about online gaming though. He didn't address the chief complaint which is Friend Codes. People don't like them. I was really really really hoping for a Friends Channel or something to address this. The download and show off your Miis channel is nice and I'll use it but the Friend Codes issue is still here. Online still isn't as solid AS IT SHOULD BE, Reggie. So other than that, this was a rather solid conference. I hope you all got a lot out of it. Discuss away! =D |
No one is going to write anything until you provide direct downloads to the hi-res video
|
Yes, I will be looking for that. I want it. Badly.
In the meantime I will look for some links and play-by-play write ups. |
Super Smash Bros. Brawl on December 3rd!
Mario Kart Wii announced with a wheel and online for Q1 2008! Wii Zapper for $19.99! Good shit. Play-by-Play writeup by Engadget. |
Their presentation was extremely disappointing. The whole show can basically be summed up by "Look at these NPD numbers, we're on top! Oh and look, we have tons and tons of new non-games to go along with useless equipment for you to buy so we can remain on top!"
They didn't announce a single new game except for Mario Kart Wii. Why did they even bother wasting two and a half minutes for Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3? |
IGN: E3 2007: Nintendo E3 Media Briefing Live Blog
NintendoWorldReport - News Article: Nintendo Press Conference Live Blog + Video E3 Live Video - Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony Press Conferences - GameSpot (Check back here to download the video of the conference) |
It was a bit disappointing compared to it's E3 presentation before the Wii launched. But it had it's share of moments. SSBB release date for one. :)
But yeah, too many statistics. |
Rock, I agree that they were spouting lots of NPD etc. nonsense but they did a nice enough job keeping me entertained through that. Youtube video and media scrounging was pretty lol. Anyway the big new game that we had an idea about was Wii Fit. We all expected Mario Kart. It's good they're putting a nice focus over-all on it being online but if it's Friend Codes it's gonna lose some points. As much as I like facing random people the snakers and drop-outs for the DS game really ruined it for me. But yes Wii Fit is pretty exciting. That balance device is going to be a crazy hit mainstream and the off-shoot games that could use it is making my imagination go nuts! We also didn't know about the Zapper being used in Umbrella Chronicles. I think that's pretty awesome and I really look forward to it.
|
Very disappointing presentation for anyone who isn't already a Nintendo fanboy. I do have to admit though, Wii Fit is probably going to be a big sales hit in the housewives crowd that's a major Nintendo target audience nowadays.
|
I just don't like this "new" Nintendo at all. I was expecting games, not 20 minutes worth of NPD talk (I go to NeoGAF for that), weird controllers and fitness trainers for soccer moms.
|
That was boring and disappointing as hell. They seem to have forgot somehow that E3 is watched by the hardcore gamers, not the blue ocean retards.
I'm not even interested in Wii Shit. Nintendo promised to do more for their fans and they didn't deliver. I don't want three fucking useless peripherals that take up space in my home and that I'll need for a new non-game. Here's hoping Sony blows the Nintendo booth. Anyone else noticed how Sony and Nintendo switched places this console generation? |
Nintendo loses E3 confirmed. Sony already owns both them and Microsoft with Killzone 2 alone and their presentation hasn't even begun. MGS4 also comin liek wut. This is madness.
|
The Revolutionary Wii Zapper!
Aside from all the bad puns and annoying presentation this could really bring a cool arcade feel to the home but honestly now, how many games will actually make this work so that it won't just leave you with an annoying extra peripheral collecting dust. |

And yes, I'm a little disappointed - It wasn't the wow-fest last year's conference was, but the tidbits we were treated to certainly were neat. |
It wasn't that bad when I first saw it, but compared to Sony's (which is going on now)....eh, I wish they had a few more games. Most of the information given at the conference was....well, a given. It was expected, but there wern't too many surprises to speak of. The Zapper redesign looks spiffy, but as Shenlon said before, hopefully games will actually use it, or it may go the way of the DK Bongos.
|
Does the zapper remind anyone else of the one form you could have the Menacer take (without the (lol) scope)?
|
GHOST SQUAD!!!!!!!! are you fucking kidding me?
Hell, me and my brother just beat that at the arcade today, HOLY SHIT. Last time the first, time we played we killed all the mother fucking hostages and lost. The 2cond time we lost again but we got all the missions aborted :(. Time to start savin quarterz!!!!! |
Nintendo conference wasn't all that impressive, but I had to lol at all the hardcore gamers angsting that Wii Fit will be the end of the industry.
Sony did appeal the most to the hardcore audience, I imagine it's an excellent recovery from their fail at last years E3. |
Somebody should rename this thread and turn it into "The Universal Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft E3 Press Conference Discussion Thread".
I don't see how Nintendo deserves a special status, especially since they had the weakest presentation of the three. |
http://public.planetmirror.com/pub/vgpro/rev/nintendo_wii/e32006_pc_nintendo_800k.wmv Additional Spam: Rock, if you really want then fine. Honestly, I created this thread for the Nintendo conference and the Microsoft conference was yesterday and the Sony conference is already being held in the PS3 thread. I made a thread like this last year and probably the year before that for the Nintendo Conference. It's kind of a tradition. And honestly what are you going to talk about in here on the Sony conference other than Metal Gear was pretty bad ass and lol Chewy is doing product placement. It was a good conference but I honestly didn't get much out of it other than Sony showed some trailers of some games we were expecting and they didn't screw it up royally this year. Hell, I'd be more inclined to discuss Sony's conference if they had let the memes out like they did last year. |

I guess I don't see the point in accessories like that because they don't change or add onto the capabilities of the Wii at all, it's just a different way of holding something you already use. In fact, doesn't this REDUCE your playing options since the Wii controller and nunchuk no longer have the ability to have independant motion sensing? It's almost like it takes the advantage of the Wii controller and cuts it down for the sake of fashion. And I'm sorry, but I have to cringe when he says "making this Resident Evil the most evolutionary...and...revolutionary". On a related note, did they show anything new for Disaster or Project H.A.M.M.E.R.? I haven't watched the full Nintendo conference yet (too busy downloading trailers of the individual games), but I was hoping they'd reveal some new information on the games...or at the very least mention that Project H.A.M.M.E.R. isn't canceled like the rumors say. ------------ Oh, and about having a separate thread for the Nintendo conference, I was wondering why Microsoft and Sony didn't have threads for their respective conferences either. As Acer said, the PS3 thread is mostly being used as a base for talk about the Sony conference...which makes it rather confusing as to where we should talk about things like the PSP redesign/new bundles which was shown at the conference. Why should we put PSP news into the PS3 thread? Or should we put information that was revealed at the conference into the PSP thread even though the PS3 thread was serving that purpose? Same with the Microsoft conference: should we be talking about the PC version of Gears of War in the Xbox 360 thread? |
Everyone call this number:
800 255 3700 Press 0. Once the support agent answers, just tell them you want to let them know you hate the friend code system and would rather just use the Wii friend code as a unifying code for all online games. I'm calling no less than twice a week now on this. I hate this crap. Additional Spam: HAHAHAHA, Acer got E306'ed again! |
lols 5 minutes until my e32006 is finished ='D
Additional Spam: lol actually it was the nintendo press event from last fall where they announced the price, release date, etc. It's kind of interesting but whatever. God, I wish these assholes would let you download it and not stream it. So lame. |
I like the idea of Wii fitness. I workout everyday and incorporating an aspect of something I enjoy into exercising is a very good idea. Being able to track my progress is good, too. Sure, I could just go buy a scale that does that but why not use this instead and play games as well.
|
Did Fire Emblem: Goddess of Dawn get a NA release confirmation? Pretty much the only Wii game that's even worth considering.
|
Nope. Still only Japan, ATM.
Also, Wii balance boards open the possibilities to a new 1080 or Tony Hawk game. |
I like how the start of the Microsoft conference they bragged about having more software sales (obviously cuz they've been out longer).
I like how the start of the Nintendo conference they bragged about basically taking back the market. I especially like how at the start of the Sony one they couldn't brag about anything... because they can't. OWNED. |
I'm re-watching the Press Conference from Nintendo. The $20 light gun shell "will be packaged with our software this year."
I'm just wondering if it'll be another gimmicky WiiSports dealie, or some original game. Also Project HAMMER and Distaster I swear aren't coming out if there's no news in the next 24 hours about them. |
I'm pretty sure he said it'd be packaged with RE Umbrella Chronicles, since it's set to be the first shooter game to hit the scene. And I'm sure Nintendo will put out a game that takes advantage of it too.
|
I love Reggie's word associations. There are some things that go together like swatting a fly or pwning a noob. Zapping a terrorist isn't on that list. I'm not too impressed with the conference but I've seen some game trailers that look like I'll have some games to sink my teeth into when Uni holidays come from November to March. I like the thought of being able to slice things up in Bleach or SC:Legends although I don't want to get my hopes up too high just incase they aren't as impressive as they could be (like Red Steel)
|
Since nobody did the "How do you think the Press Conference will go down" where Reggie kills people and stuff, I was telling Acer I thought that when they were checking his BMI and he talked about muscle weighing more than fat, he'd flex and his shirt would rip off like the dude that looks like him on the Wii T-Shirt. Then of course he'd rip someone in half like a phone book.

Lukage you should read my gurnal more I pretty much forgot all about doing my ridiculous E3 conference thing until about an hour before it began. |
I like how civilized this discussion is.
Everywhere else I go everyone's like "LOL WII FIT?! NINTY DITCHING HARDCORE GAMERZ BAAAWWWW" and "SONY WON E3 CUZ THEY CATERED TO US!" when the press conference wasn't even built to cater to them. |
Guys, I'm downloading the conference from Gamespot. It's for real this time lolz.
But oh god it's a freaking gig. I dunno if I'll be able to upload this anywhere. http://www.gamespot.com/pages/gamesp...&mode=previews You can go make a free gamespot account and download it with their download manager (not spyware as far as I know and you can uninstall it after you're done if you want). I might send it to Lukage because he said he has webspace to burn if he doesn't want to download it himself. |

Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, Metroid Prime 3. Whereas what did Sony have that interested me? Two games, that's one more than last year: MGS4 and Echocrome. Hey, I'm not even counting the multi platform stuff because none of that interests me either and if it did, I'd get it on 360. |
The potential for Wii FIt is pretty amazing, actually. It doesn't have to be used for aerobic workout type games. Imagine using it as a snowboard, leaning in to turns. Imagine using it as a skateboard, actually having to pump your foot to gain speed. Imagine using it in conjunction with the wiimote and nunchuck for a skiing game with ski poles for keeping your balance, and pumping your arms to keep up speed through flat portions. Imagine using it with the Wii zapper in a run-and-gun shooter where you actually have to run in order to dodge enemy fire. Could be means for some pretty cool experiences.
Even if we, as core gamers, aren't all that impressed with the balance board... this thing is going to be Nintendo's trump card to hold a stranglehold on the industry for next year. People are going to eat this up. Imagine if health clubs start using Wii Fit in aerobics and yoga classes. Somebody is going to make some money there. Nintendo stockholders should be quite happy. |

The login info I had for last year was media/E32006 (secure!), but I wouldn't be surprised if there are multiple accounts.

CHz is a winner. Thank you. A man deserving of My Little Pony.

Reggie has spotted you! http://gb2gt.com/images/gff/reggie3.jpg http://gb2gt.com/images/gff/miyamoto1.jpg He is trying to steal the wheel to make his own MAR-EE-OH KART?! Crack something over Slugworth's head, Miyamoto! Yeah! That scale thingy! |
Other than the Wii play I think the other trinkets are bullshit. Wheel? I'll just hold the fucking controller sideways thank-you-very-much.
With the Lightgun-contraption-thing-whose-name-I-forget I'll do the same. I heard Reggie say you can do special "moves" with it. I'd seriously like to see how the fuck that works seeing as as far as I can tell it's just a plastic mold which you fit the Wiimote and nunchuck into. There's nothing electrical added at all. On a side note this is the first time I've seen this guy Reggie on video, and he strikes me as a complete tool. He comes off as one half low level mob member and one half inept motivational speaker. They need to fire his ass and let a CGI Mario do everything from now on. |
I love how there is still a strap on the wheel controller. :p

Hotobut, I think you're confused on how the motion sensing works. With the zapper you have two points of motion firmly set in place that developers can rely on. Try thinking of holding a shotgun. Move your hands like you were reloading it over your shoulder. Your hands will stay in a constant distance from each other while doing so for the most part. Now think of where the Wii controller and the nunchuk will be. Tracking that allows for a lot of new motions and positions and positioning. With this you can effectively pull off a Master Chief melee attack with a gun to your opponent's face. You can do a pumping of a shotgun by well doing a bit of a back and forth movement or something similar. With a bit of on-screen calibration you could finally have a line of sight shooting. The zapper is well thought out. I don't agree with its individual pricing of $20 since it really is a fancy plastic shell but perhaps if they're selling a really good compilation shooting game with Duck Hunt with it I could pick it up for 20 bucks.
Additional Spam: I guess you guys haven't looked at the Wiil yet. There's a specific hole for the strap to stick out of. It's pretty slick. There's also a hole for the IR sensor to go through in case you still needed to point at the screen. The break button is big enough to press on the B trigger as well. It's a nice shell and it comes for free with the game so whatever. |
I'm not too pleased with the Zapper's trigger manually pressing the Wiimote's B button. Read the review of it on IGN.
http://gear.ign.com/articles/804/804382p1.html I'm afraid it'll wear out and not feel natural. EDIT: 'sup Megalith. |
They need to make the "balance board" beefier. I think the woefully underestimate the weight of the average American these days. :p The "zapper" is fine with me. Umbrella Chronicles and a bonified arcade gun game sounds swell. And yes, if info about Disaster or Project HAMMER isn't released soon I will doubt that they are actually coming out.
However, the thing I am now most excited about came from the press kit page: Rygar. It was one of my favorite games for PS2. The diskarmor rocks; if we will be able to control it with the Wii 100% (unlike Zelda where you just slash the Wii to slash the sword the same as a button press would do) then I see this game selling a bazillion copies. It's too bad that's really the only third-party game I see on the press kit page that isn't kiddie, sports, or just non-interesting. Seems like Nintendo is keeping up with tradition on that front. It's weird but there's just enough good titles to make me hold onto my Wii... |
Since Acer won't make/allow the Wii thread to come back, there is a system update. Some minor interface upgrades, but for those of you using a Freeloader for your GC imports, it seems they're cracking down on this stuff:
http://www.computerandvideogames.com....php?id=169745 Also, there is limited USB keyboard support and I suspect it'll work outside the shop soon! http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/08/wi...board-support/ |
Yeah... I should probably get around to doing that thread thingy.
I hope they keep doing these updates regularly. It was a long time coming since the last one. |
Okay guys closing this thread.
Go help me make that Wii thread version 2! =D http://www.gamingforce.org/forums/vi...read-here.html |
