Obscure talents

Do you have any obscure talents? I'm a very good finger snapper. Well at least that is what everyone tells me. I guess I got good at it because it is a thing I do when I'm bored. I start subconsciously snapping my fingers to the tunes of certain songs. I can snap my fingers insanely fast and can snap with every finger on my hand. I'm best with the middle finger though.

RainMan Jul 4, 2007 11:26 PM

I can do hundreds of situps without getting tired. I can climb trees extremely fast. (I can basically run up a tree propelling myself up in short time.) I'm also an expert midget tosser. Are these obscure enough?

Chaotic Jul 5, 2007 01:11 AM

Stick half a soda can in my mouth? Being really flexible for someone 200 lbs+? Along with the soda can, my fist? Not at the same time though...

Obscure enough?

DragoonKain Jul 5, 2007 01:17 AM

Obscure enough for me.

Dullenplain Jul 5, 2007 01:39 AM

I have a tendency to freak the hell out of people when I bend my rather flexible double-jointed fingers backwards, such as to the point when the upper two segments of the finger lie nearly parallel to the hand.

Sepharite Jul 5, 2007 01:46 AM

I can make farting sounds with my hands. However, I haven't perfected it enough that I can make actual notes, its usually 5 notes in one. *BOOP BOOP*

And you can imagine how many girls I impressed in grade-school. *BOOP BOOP*

Arkhangelsk Jul 5, 2007 03:30 AM

I'm quite flexible, and for some reason it freaks people out. Especially when I'll collapse myself from standing to sitting indian-style, and can lean forward and touch the ground in front of me (or hunched over a laptop, which is what I do if it's on the floor). I can also hold hands behind my back, which isn't that impressive, but relates to the flexible bit.

Also, I apparently am pretty good at impersonating my friends that speak in a distinctive way or have a pronounced accent, especially my former Russian viola teacher. I pretty much have the Russian accent down.

doodle Jul 5, 2007 04:28 AM

I can use my feet like slightly retarded hands, picking up anything from a dropped sock to a wineglass.

I can also vibrate my eyeballs and squirt dual saliva streams from under my tongue like a snake.

Torte Jul 5, 2007 06:10 AM

Dual saliva streams? Wow, that really is something! Although most of us do this in small amounts anyway, what with bilateral sublingual caruncles and all.

RacinReaver Jul 5, 2007 09:52 AM

I can twist my wrist in a full circle, bend my right pinky back so it touches my wrist, pop my thumbs out of their sockets without touching them, pop my shoulders out of their sockets, put my one foot behind my head, and grab my wrists behind my back (one hand goes over the shoulder the other goes low behind my back).

I was either dropped a lot as a kid or none of my joints formed properly.

DeLorean Jul 5, 2007 11:03 AM

I can whistle and hum at the same time. I can't really change the interval though. It's usually a minor 6th.

I can blow air out of my right eye by holding my nostrils and mouth shut and blowing. Apparently either my lacrimal ducts or nasolacrimal duct on the right side are unusually large. I could probably squirt milk out like that guy in the record books if I tried. I don't particularly want to, though.

As a side note, due to the unusual size of my ducts, when I itch my right eye it squeaks. And as if all of that wasn't gross enough, I have attached a recording of my squeaky eye. It's probably overkill, but I figured at least a few of you are curious as to what a squeaky eye sounds like.

All at once? =D

I'm freakishly flexible, especially for my build. I can tuck one foot behind my head (not both at once!), but it isn't terribly comfy '~' I can easily touch anywhere on the bottom of either foot to, say, my nose or forehead. No hands involved.

The girl I roomed with at a Kansas music festival could do this, and it kind of freaked people out. Occasionally I do it by accident.

Temari Jul 6, 2007 12:07 AM

For some reason, people get really freaked out that I can bend my fingers at the first joint (joint closest to fingernail) without moving the other joints. Years of jamming your fingers into their sockets as a soccer goalie will get you some pretty weird finger abilities.

Yeah I can do that too. It really weirds folks out something fierce. Plus my fingers can bow back pretty darn far, possibly tied in to that. I can raise my fingers to around 60° or so while keeping my palm still flat >_>;

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Jul 6, 2007 07:52 AM

After the fact that no fewer than four people have commented on their uncanny flexibility, I'm going to go ahead and say that being double-jointed or whatever is no longer "obscure".

Me, I can impersonate Marge Simpson, to the point of being able to say anything in her voice. Patty and Selma too.

Krelian Jul 6, 2007 03:24 PM

I can do this:

http://a.photos.cx/IMG01073-93d.jpg

f u crash

I used to be able to do it with both legs, but I fucked up my right thigh last year, so now it kind of really hurts!

Chaotic Jul 6, 2007 06:03 PM

When I was younger and a hell of alot skinnier, I was able to do that...

Maybe I should do the soda can one if I have the time. :|

Bernard Black Jul 6, 2007 06:28 PM

Hooray for not being the only one who can bend the top joints of my fingers ^___^

I can also bend my left thumb back to my wrist; let's get a picture here:

http://aycu08.webshots.com/image/222...2843170_rs.jpg

=o

I can also cross all of my toes and move my little toe on each foot horizontally outwards. Apparently that's weird, and I've yet to hear the contrary.

Me too! :eagletear: I used to have so much fun doing that when I was younger. If I dropped something, I didn't have to actually bend down to pick it up.

...Maybe that's part of the reason why I'm so lazy now.

starslight Jul 6, 2007 10:45 PM

I can belch on command and fold my tongue. That's about it.

Max POWER Jul 7, 2007 12:16 AM

I have really good eye-hand coordination, and good motor skills in general, so I can do a lot of odd and obscure things. I'm really good at playing with devil sticks (juggling sticks), and I can bounce a tennis ball by using a pen as if it were a racket for a very long while.

Gumby Jul 7, 2007 11:34 AM

I'm sure all of you have heard of mental calculators, people who can calculate very large numbers in their head. I can do similar except with angles. I can very accurately measure angles just by looking at them. Back in geometry I almost never used my protractor except to double check my work.

Obscure enough?

Well if impersonations are allowed...just to name a few for you anime and video game fans:

Elder Toguro (dub), Yami Bakura (dub), Shadow the Hedgehog (both Adventure2/Heroes and [bleh!] 4kids voice), Walter Dolmes (dub, 1st OVA).

Closest I've gotten to the Simpsons though is being able to say "Excellent" with Mr. Burns.

I'm the same way. I have a very good sense of accuracy and trajectory. Always have. It has helped me to be a very good jumpshooter in basketball.

I've never tried, but I probably could. ;_;

Also, yeah, I can do that thing with touching my foot to my head. I can actually place it flat up against my face.

Black Jade Rose Jul 10, 2007 01:06 AM

I'm a very obscure person and have the talents to match. I can vibrate my whole body or one part at a time great for massages. I am very flexible and can do that leg behind the head thing along with my feet touching the back of my head to make a human circle. I also have a huge tung. It is seven cm long (sticking out of my mouth) and I can sick it down my own throat along with whatever else you can do with a tung, use your imagination.

Chaotic Jul 10, 2007 01:22 AM

Word. I can't imagine anyone actually swallowing their own tongue...

But it would've helped to spell tongue correctly. I still need to get that picture of the can halfway in my mouth. T_T

The_Griffin Jul 10, 2007 04:59 AM

I whistle. Fast.

I'm the sorta guy who whistles Dragonforce as a challenge. Only got one song down pat so far :(

Minoko Jul 10, 2007 10:45 AM

I used to make my team mates laugh when I would do a inverted indian sit then walk with only my knees. I used to also make a small 'a' vowel by lying belly down, then pushing up to cobra stretch then putting my feet to my head. Thats about it.

Andrew Jul 10, 2007 05:07 PM

I suppose that in this day and age by Gregg shorthand skills are somewhat obscure. Using it I can write up to 90 words per minute. Also, I can bend my feet all the way backwards so that they face the other way together. :)

I can sort of relate with this, to this date I have never lost a game of twister, there was a birthday party I went to as a kid and was banned from playing because they would not have a chance of winning.

Other then that I can click my teeth very fast, I can click to the tune of songs with my teeth.
