Working Out

I didn't see this anywhere, so I'm going to make a thread out of it. :)

So, how many of you workout? Do you have a specific routine that you go through? Do you take supplements?

As for me, I tend to work out about everyday (except weekends). This is how my schedule is so far:

Mon: Biceps, Abs
Tues: Chest, Triceps, Abs
Wed: Shoulders, Back, Abs
Thurs: Biceps, Abs
Fri: Chest, Triceps, Abs

Its a pretty straight-forward routine, but its actually quite nice. I'm up to about... 75 on the curl bar, or about 40s or 35s for dumbbells, and I can bench about 135. It ain't much, but I'm concentrating mainly on my biceps and triceps.

Jiraiya Mar 18, 2006 02:05 PM

Hmm I dont really have a work out schedule but when I do this is usually how it go's:

-Mile Run
-100 Push ups
-100 Crunches
-3 reps of 10 curling 40lb's
-Sitting down watching TV and just lifting 10lb dumbells the whole time
-3 reps of 10 of military presses, 65lb's

I dont do this often but I try too atleast twice a week.

*AkirA* Mar 18, 2006 04:19 PM

I try to keep a pretty average workout, about every other day or so. I do 3 sets of 5 with 200lb's on bench. Ive been floating around that number recently only due to the fact that Im having trouble staying regular with my bench workouts. and then about 65 push ups, 100 sit ups, and then leg presses and usually a good bike ride or jog for some cardio.

Stealth Mar 18, 2006 04:54 PM

I've started out a small workout/warmup routine everyday:

Arm Circles (Spin both directions, sides, above, and front)
Lift dumbells (10 per arm, 15 behind back for triceps)
2 minutes leg lifts
2 minutes flutter kicks
2 minutes crunches
2 minutes alternating crunches
2 minutes situps (Not sure what to call it. Basically my legs are up in the air crossed while I do situps)
2 minute holding pushup? (Basically you curve your back and bend your arms and hold the position for 2 minutes)

I do this everyday, though as soon as my job is over, I need to dedicate around 3 hours for a workout everyday. This will include the same routine, plus lots of running, twice a day. I'm doing this to get into shape, and to lose some weight before I head into ROTC.

elwe Mar 18, 2006 05:32 PM

I don't really have a schedule. Back when I used to run on the track and cross country team, I'd run 1.5-3 miles a day and do some pushups, situps, and other exercises.

Right now, I only exercise once in a while. It's either running, biking, or crunches. I try to get in 100 crunches three times a week. I should really be working on my upper body strength, especially my biceps and triceps, but I can't get myself to do them willingly. That's not good, considering that I have very little upper body strength.

Minion Mar 18, 2006 06:11 PM

Stretching definitely does good, yeah.

Greykin Mar 18, 2006 06:16 PM

Over my march break and stuff, I don't really work out. When I go to school, it is part of my routine. I have a little schedule and timetable I go by. I pretty much HAVE to work out to succeed in the program I chose for college, so that's probably my motivation =/.

Mucknuggle Mar 18, 2006 06:24 PM

Spyer, you are overworking your muscles. You really need to work them out only once a week. You should be concentrating more on your core muscles. Biceps and triceps are very small muscles and don't take much work to improve. Anyhow, if anybody is serious about their lifting, I suggest that they check out www.ironmagazineforums.com - I've been going here for a while and it's been a great help. The people there are awesome.

nazpyro Mar 18, 2006 06:32 PM

I don't do any lifting-type stuff, nor pure running (though I'll run a mile sometimes). I play basketball 2-4 hours a few times per week. That's pretty much it as far as "workouts."

I do some other activities as well. I got my racquetball class that's about an hour twice a week. I play some futsal as least once a week. I also play 2 hours of dodgeball most Thursday nights. Also, an intramural soccer season's gotten started and I'm playing on 2 teams for that. Intramural volleyball and dodgeball are gonna start some time too. So it's more just sports instead of workouts.

Rydia Mar 18, 2006 06:35 PM

I don't do much running, but I walk for a few hours a week and do some simple stretching. It'd be good to go to a gym, but I don't have much time during the day.

All you really need is an hour, three times a week. Another 30 min x 3 for cardio.

My_Lo Mar 18, 2006 06:46 PM

1. Open the bottle
2. Lift up my arm
3. Open my mouth
4. Swallow the beer

3 series of 5 as often as possible... ^_-

No, seriously... Last year I was doing work out but it was more boring than anything else...

Safer Serge Mar 18, 2006 07:06 PM

I work out four times a week. Normally that's my routine:

Mon-Wed:
Triceps, Chest, Shoulders, Calves + 60min. cardio (also abs on mondays)

Tue-Thu:
Biceps, Back, Traps, Legs + 30min. cardio (also abs on thursdays)

I just love working out. It's really good when you see the results after some time: stronger, leaner, sexier. :edgarrock:

Minion Mar 18, 2006 07:08 PM

Chicks generally don't care if you work out.

<3 Minion.

I train with weights approximately 3 times per week and I do cardio twice to three times per week depending on how busy my school schedule is.

But they do care if you have a nice body or not. You know, having a nice body is never a bad thing. Good for your health too. (hint hint)

Acro-nym Mar 18, 2006 07:39 PM

I would like to work out. I never seem to have enough time. I think I get a fair amount of exercise while traveling around school and frequent stretching, but I know I could get more. I think the issue really lies in me not applying myself. Or it could be that I'm right and I really don't have enough time.

They give you a lot of stamina for your arms, which in turn lets you lift more. It also tones your muscles. We did it for wrestling practice everyday.

I've been working out for 8 years. Doesn't make a shit of difference. Every woman I've ever spoken to doesn't care about it. If anything, they don't want guys who are too buff.

Stealth Mar 18, 2006 08:58 PM

I've always thought it was ridiculous to work out just to score with a girl.

I do it for my own well being, and goals.

Seriously, they don't want guys that are too buff? Doesn't the word ''too'' kind of inherently imply that?

Not like anyone even mentioned women before you, so I don't know where this came from.

Just the same way guys dont like it when girls have breasts that are TOO big. Just because someone works out, doesn't mean they automatically end up looking like Ronnie Coleman.

Arbok Mar 18, 2006 09:18 PM

I tend to lift weights myself, working mostly on upper body strength. I try to do it every other day, but that rarely works out, especially with college back in.

Gumby Mar 18, 2006 09:32 PM

I hit the gym at least twice a week my goal being 4 times a week. While I am there I push most of my major muscle groups to failure with 5x5 sets. Makes for a seriously sore body the next day but so far it has proven to cause my strength and overall muscle mass to increase relatively fast.

From that routine, you're only working your upper body. What about the lower body? Many guys in the gym work the upper part but lag behind in the legs making them disproportional.

Minion Mar 18, 2006 11:52 PM

Unless you're actually bodybuilding, you won't notice any disproportionality. In fact, most guys who work out don't do much for their legs. Some of them actually believe that working out your legs negatively effects your uppperbody strength.

JackTheRipper Mar 18, 2006 11:56 PM

I try to work out every other day. Nothing too serious, just using free weights to strengthen my upper body.

Truth. We call guys who only train chest and arms 'Beachies' because they are training to look good at the beach. Leg training actually assists indirectly in building upper body strength because the large movements like squats and deadlifts indirectly stress the upper body as well.
I know so many girls who complain about stick legs.

Oops, sorry, I forgot to mention that I get about 1-2 hours of badminton every day, plus 30 mins of cardio during the night.

In regards to my legs, I don't focus AS MUCH, but considering I do quite a bit of running and whatnot, it still helps. I don't think it makes me disproportional though. I see tons of people who don't focus on their legs: eg. a good friend of mine, a teacher, has been working out for 10 years now, and he is ripped. Oh boy, its tough finding him a shirt that won't explode once he puts it on. Anyway, he has very skinny legs, you know those chicken legs?

So personally, I don't believe it'll make you disproportional. It shouldn't - I doubt even using the military press would do that.....but maybe....

AtmaWeapon Mar 19, 2006 02:31 AM

My workout consists of thinking about working out for about an hour and then faking exhaustion. Works great, my ass has never been softer.

I'm more of a lose weight the way god intended it kinda guy, through stress and malnutrition.

Musharraf Mar 19, 2006 06:31 AM

I am doing this 8minutes abs and arms program from TV each morning, so that's ~16 minutes each day, I just don't think that I'm willing to do more.

I've heard that it also helps overall body strength because the large muscles in the legs tend to cause you to release more testosterone when you work them out which gets absorbed by the upperbody muscles too that are probably in the process of healing from the upperbody work out most people start their weeks with.

Man_of_Pie Mar 19, 2006 12:05 PM

I have an inconsistant workout schedule that changes constantly I workout at least 5 times a week. I used to go to the gym but I was asked to never come back because I was sneaking in under the radar and getting in for free on a daily basis. Yeah so that's my routine.

CileGray Mar 19, 2006 12:09 PM

I have to agree about the 'Chicks don't care if you work out' comment.

But let me just add to that.

'INTELLIGENT chicks don't care if you work out'. My girlfriend is what I would define as very hot, and yet she doesn't care that I don't look like Hulk Hogan and that my penis is not slowly fading into oblivion because I'm taking too many supplements...

But on the other hand, I try to stay fit, I have a bang ass treadmill in my basement so I run regularly, rollerblade alot to keep the legs healthy, and hum... yea, DDR... that's a damn workout for you lazy folk.

Aardark Mar 19, 2006 12:25 PM

Working out = looking like Hulk Hogan and taking supplements?

CileGray Mar 19, 2006 12:29 PM

That's usually what happens in extreme cases. As muscle mass increases, brain mass reverse-proportionally decresasses until you get to the point where your favorite hobby is looking at yourself in the mirror.

Hey don't get me wrong I have nothing against working out. I do, however, believe, that it's fucking hillarious to see someone not be able to scratch his own fucking back because his muscles are in the way...

*AkirA* Mar 19, 2006 12:39 PM

Theres a difference between being a meat head, and being toned and healthy.

CileGray Mar 19, 2006 12:42 PM

Yes, and that is why I made the distinction between the two very clear in my post.

Yeah, only the thing about extreme cases is that they don't ''usually'' happen (that's why they're called ''extreme'').

Actually you didn't; you just stated that chicks don't care if you work out (period), and then went on to say something about Hulk Hogan and penises fading away.

CileGray Mar 19, 2006 12:52 PM

If you read carefully I said I was agreeing with the previous statement. Which in term means that I personally think that the chicks I want to hang around don't care about working out or muscle-heads.

Minion Mar 19, 2006 12:55 PM

All I wanted to say in the first place is that being in shape will not guarantee you women. And not being in shape will not guarantee that you don't get women. This is a fact. You can phrase it and interpret it however you like. From my personal experience, it seems to be because women, in general, are just not interested in how much you can bench.

Since when is every "very hot" chick automatically not intelligent?

All chicks that want their boyfriends to take supplements (or wish they would do it) are not unintelligent, they are massively retarded.

Now that's true. Being in shape will not automatically ''get you women'', however I don't think you can deny that being considerably out of shape does put you at an initial disadvantage, even if it's only about the first impression.

Being in shape is just a neutral state that doesn't gurantee anything, however; I completely agree with that.

CileGray Mar 19, 2006 01:26 PM

Mush... I don't think you quite read my post correctly, since the way you say it, I would have admitted my GF to be 'not intelligent', while on the other hand... she manages to do better than me in college.

Musharraf Mar 19, 2006 01:29 PM

Why would you comment a statement like 'INTELLIGENT chicks don't care if you work out' with another statement like 'My girlfriend is what I would define as very hot, and yet she doesn't care that...' then?

CileGray Mar 19, 2006 01:34 PM

I wouldn't qualify myself as the work-out type guy... so if she DID care, she wouldn't be with me now would she.

I'm going to have to blame this whole misunderstanding on my 'english as a second language' issue... maybe I'm just not making as much sense as I think I am.

Musharraf Mar 19, 2006 01:36 PM

I dunno dude, if she really loved you, she would be with you even if she DID care.

CileGray Mar 19, 2006 01:39 PM

If she DID care, she would have never loved me in the first place... no ?

Anyways, I have absolutely nothing to say against her she's by far the best girl I've been with since forever... and I sure hope it'll stay like that. Now, back on topic... don't take them pills, you'll grow tits.

Musharraf Mar 19, 2006 01:43 PM

Dude there are more important things in lyfe~ Look, I dunno about your girlfriend, but in most cases, there's always something that bugs them. I have a friend who's very good looking but he smells like shit because he's never heard of a facility called "shower" and his girlfriend hates that about him but she still loves him. <3

CileGray Mar 19, 2006 02:01 PM

Lol that's the funniest thing I've heard. But like you're saying, it bugs her, but she doesn't really base her whole opinion on his stench... while this is true for some, based on looks.

And maybe his GF could fix all of this, by inviting your friend over to shower with her... now why did she not think of that :P

Tomzilla Mar 26, 2006 02:45 AM

I tend to work out at least 3-4 days a week. I try to work-out my entire body, not just concentrating on my biceps, but everything. Normally, I'd start off by working on my abs, and then proceed to carrying out my other assigned work-out routines of the day.

But for statistics, based on latest events, I can lift the following:

Bench: 235

Squat: 280

I usually curl 60, but that'll be changing soon. I also try to work-out my legs daily, either lifting/pushing weight or just running a mile. I usually do push-ups and crunches on my 'off days' or when I was unable to work-out, just to keep the muscles up to date.

I'm pleased with the results and strive to improve in time.

magewarrior Mar 28, 2006 05:39 AM

Right now my main focus is losing some weight, not improving my biceps or triceps, I just started a routine not that long ago, Im using the staircase in our building for excersize, Im up to five floors each day now, Im also doing some workouts following some of richard simmons dvds, all in all its working out fine, Im already starting to feel lighter.

b-hc.net|andrew Mar 28, 2006 08:10 AM

My routine is work out for three days streight.

Day one:
Biceps, Back, Abs, Cheast

Day Two:
Triceps, Lats, Abs again Cheast some more

Day Three:
Cardio, Legs, Biceps... & anything else I feel like I need to
