Saint Seiya Meikai Hen

all the saint seiya meikai hen ovas have been aired, any comments on this?

Fumoffu Mar 4, 2006 12:34 PM

Meikai Hen = Hades Inferno arc, right?

I only watched the first two OVAs (what's taking Spectre so long?), and boy was I disappointed with them. I had high hopes after watching the Hades Sanctuary arc, which featured stunning graphics and choreography (remember the camera following Seiya's Ryu Sei Ken? Awesome). All the old voice actors returned, which brought good memories for oldtimers like me. All in all, that was so brilliant that Inferno didn't need to one-up Sanctuary. if Inferno had retained the same production level, I would have been a happy camper.

Except it didn't.

What's with Inferno's horrible graphics? Everyone looks deformed, as in 80's Seiya style deformed. We're in 2006, right? The environments look so bland, any amateur CG designer could have done a better job. The pacing sucks because the storyline is so crunched up. Why did they have to do it in six episodes this time around (which, if I read correctly, the team had to completely omit certain defining moments at the end)? Where is the original cast of voice actors? And why does the BGM sound like horsebleep in a vaccuum?

I am SO DISAPPOINTED with the first two OVAs, I have no urge to finish watching the remaining four.

My $0.02.

MrSatan Mar 4, 2006 02:18 PM

well, i read somewhere that Toei wanted new voice actor for andromeda but, the orignal cast wanted to work together, so they all quit for that.
the reason that they changed the voice actor was that they dont sound young anymore(there are almost 20 years since it first aired) it have some sense to me, but it would be nice to have the original cast.
now for the backgrounds, you are right, they look pretty bland and somehow repetitive, but way more colorful than ever.
i was disappointed that there where no CG in the attack, like the ryuseiken or the galatic explotion in the santuary part, that was awesome.
and i share your feeling for releasing only 6 ovas, with 2 more at least the passing would be much better.
lets hope they correct this for the next releases

Nintendonomicon Mar 4, 2006 02:32 PM

Visual effects for the attacks were lame. Phlegias's Howling Inferno looked retarded, Aiacos's Galactic Illusion looked chopped, and there were 80% less planets in Kanon's Galaxian Explosion.

Amateurish.

Overall, the Inferno series just looked and felt retarded. It's really an insult after the good job that Toei did in Sanctuary.

hikarub Mar 4, 2006 03:33 PM

Well, it's still better than the Heaven chapter movie from a while back. Now that was crappy! I've also only seen the first 2 OVAs for Inferno and yes, I agree that they certainly were missing much of what made the Sanctuary arc so goddamn cool.

A complete change of cast was a major blow. The animation was sorely lacking (OMG, did you see them running?! Like freakin' puppets on strings!!! The last shot of Saori was weird too, like there wasn't much consistency in the character designs.)

Please tell me the other 4 are even a little bit better........please?

Nintendonomicon Mar 4, 2006 07:22 PM

On a Saint Seiya related topic... have you guys checked out the finished figures for Ban and Nachi from the Myth Cloth line?

hikarub Mar 5, 2006 07:30 AM

Saw them but wasn't interested. After the 12 Gold Saints, I just want a Athena Saori figure and then I'll be content. I might be interested in the 5 Kami Cloths too....

hikarub Mar 21, 2006 04:47 AM

Awright, WTF? Is no one gonna do the english subs for episodes 3 - 6?! Then again, does this chapter suck so bad that no one thinks it's worth it?

:cussing:

Still waiting too, but there's no rush for me. I'd rather have a good quality sub than something rushed. Spectre Anime is going to do the rest eventually:

Still, if you can't wait, I'd suggest finding some Raws and adding the subtitles yourself. You can find subtitles for all of Saint Seiya here at Seiya Subtitles

MrSatan Mar 21, 2006 08:53 PM

you are right, thats what i did a long time ago, if you dont mind pick 350-450 meg per chapter thats the best way to go!

Hao Apr 6, 2006 04:50 PM

For those who still care, Spectre Anime released episodes 3 & 4 about a week ago. :D

I didn't have a chance to watch them yet, 'cause of computer problems, but from the small scenes I've watched the subs look good. Can't say the same about the episodes though (Shiryu's VA doesn't sound good at all :( )

hikarub Apr 7, 2006 02:12 AM

OMG, what crappy episodes we have here......

The subs don't matter because your eyes are too busy bleeding to be able read them (ha ha ha, please don't take me literally....it's not as serious as that.....). But the pacing sucks eggs, and the fights are totally crap:
Spoiler:
....Seiya and Shun seem to struggle in their matches whereas Shiryu and Hyoga perform one-hit kills and don't even break a sweat. They ran through the third prison without stopping for a breather, just kill the spectres guarding the dump and move on with little or no time lost. WTF?! The story on Orpheus was short but pretty well done, but no way saves these 2 episodes.

I fear the last 2 episodes will kill the Seiya franchise for good.

:(

Saint Seiya Next Dimension

Coming summer 2006.

Fumoffu Apr 26, 2006 11:40 PM

Hikarub,

Spoiler:
But this is exactly how the manga goes, as bad as it sounds. At least the OVA's are staying true to the manga.

wow, i didnt knew that, cool!
hope its a way to a sequel for saint seiya, maybe a link to the tenkai hen or something

Hao Apr 29, 2006 06:03 PM

Here's a torrent for the Prologue
Spoiler:
From a translation I read, it's basicly the last scenes of Vol.28, with Hades remembering something about the Pegasus that haunted him during the previous Saint Wars. And it ends with a figure in the shadows, wearing the "yours ever" pendant Shun wore :D.

An interesting theory I've heard about "Next Dimension" is that Kurumada is going to rewrite the original ending of the manga and continue with the Tenkai chapter, but ignoring the events that happened in the "Ouverture" movie (making it, like the other movies, outside the "official" continuity).
Well, I certainly hope that would be true, so that we can forget about what happened in the movie.

Spoiler:
Unfortunately this proves that staying true to the manga isn't always a good thing. The Sanctuary episodes of Hades were superior in that aspect because they added more scenes or changed some details that weren't in the manga and without damaging the story itself. This is practicaly non-existant in the Inferno Chapter; in fact, one scene in episode 2 was actually noticably cut.

eriol33 Apr 29, 2006 11:05 PM

btw guys, I got this link incase you want to read the hades chapter.

I havent bothered to watch the inferno arc coz you mentioned it was retarded.

Nintendonomicon May 24, 2006 11:22 PM

Good news, nerds.
The first 13 OVAs coming to Mexico liek wut.

http://www.ssiceplanet.net/news/data...aco_Hades1.jpg

I'm ordering this faster that a cure for AIDS.

MrSatan May 26, 2006 10:17 AM

nintendonomicon, do you already have it?
is the video quality good? and the sound?

Nintendonomicon May 26, 2006 08:37 PM

I'm about to order it.
I don't know about the video, but the sound seems good enough.

MrSatan May 27, 2006 01:28 AM

oh i see, well when you receive it tell me, i read that they are releasing them in ecuador too, so i will get it eventually

Nintendonomicon Jun 2, 2006 08:29 PM

I received it yesterday. The covert art sucks because it's horribly dark and you can barely appreciate it.
The dub, however, is awesome! The only voices that return from the old mexican cast (and I mean in this particular DVD) were the narrator and Seiya (all 5 Bronze Saints will be voiced by their original voice actor, but only Seiya shows up on the first episode. However, Shiryu and Hyoga do show up briefly on episode 0, which is a summary of the entire series, and they are indeed dubbed by their original voice actors).
Dohko, Shaina, Ichi, Nachi, Mu, Deathmask, Aphrodite and Shion were all new voices, and they're all great and fitting.
The intro and outro theme songs are not dubbed.
There are no extra features, with the exception of a Shion collectible card that comes as an insert.

EDIT: And speaking of orgasms, the Aiacos Myth Cloth figure came out in Japan not too long ago.

with the original voice actors, i cant wait to have it!

Well, finally got round to seeing episode 10 a few nights ago. Godamn, it's about time things started getting interesting again. I was so sure they were going to fuck up this series. I was pretty disappointed with the Inferno Arc, especially since they did such an outstanding job with Sanctuary. So disappointed in fact, that I didn't bother seeing episodes 5 & 6 after the pitiful episodes 1 - 4.

Now, I see that the story has started to pick up pace again. I can't wait to see how things turn out in episodes 11 and beyond.

episode 10:
Spoiler:
Athena has disappeared (after running Hades' soul with Pandora's trident) seemingly taken away by Hades while Virgo Shakka can only watch in horror. Seiya finally reaches the chamber and finds an unconcious Shun in the throne room. Behind them is a huge wall, the Wailing Wall, which seperates Hell from the paradise Elysium. Along with Shakka, Seiya believes that Athena must be there and that they must break through the wall to get to her. Unfortunately, Shakka has already tried but he cannot make even a scratch on the surface.

When Shakka attempts to use up his life force to burn his cosmos to the maximum and break through, he is stopped by Libra Dohko who has joined them. They are then joined by Scorpio Milo, Aries Mu and Leo Aiolia. When Shakka explains that only the power of the sun can pierce the wall, Dohko explains that it can be done. If the Gold Saints unite, they can break through. The reason being, the 12 constellations of the zodiac (Gold Saint constellations) are always in the hemisphere in the direction of the sun, as such they have always been revolving around the sun for many a millenia. When the Gold Saints burn their cosmos with the energy of the sun, they believe they can break through.

The episode ends with Dohko dispersing Libra's weapons to the other 4 Gold Saints. But is it enough? Or is there another miracle yet?

Also, in episode 8 or 9 or 10, Marin is shown leading a girl towards Sanctuary. The girl is wearing a hood and has red hair. (OMFG!!)

Oh, when is episode 11 coming.......?

.....sigh......

hikarub Mar 3, 2008 06:10 AM

Well, finally got round to seeing the last 2 episodes of the Inferno arc (couldn't find the episodes via any torrent, happened to find them online on the veoh.com/stage6 site). What a way to go.

Now I am definitely psyched for the final chapter! I know how it all turns out but damn I can't wait to see it all. I just hope they don't screw it up...

MrSatan Mar 4, 2008 03:05 AM

Newbornankh Studios have released their English sub of episode 1 of the Elysion Chapter.

Saw episode 2 of Elysion, looks fantastic! Can't wait for the other episodes to come out soon!!

As for the Myth Cloth series, some awesome news:

Awesome!! The God Cloths start coming out and the first is Seiya himself.

Also:

Saori finally appears before us. She doesn't seem to come with her God Cloth yet,but perhaps that will come a bit later...

Wonder if I should start collecting these again....despite having no room for them.... :tpg:

Also, the Cloth Myth series has 2 versions of Poseidon coming out in September:

Saint Cloth Myth - Poseidon

Saint Cloth Myth - Poseidon (Royal Ornament Edition)

;)

MrSatan Sep 7, 2008 01:32 AM

im totally disappointed how the last ovas where handled i never felt any emotion, nor a climax at the end. well cant win all the time. at least all the hades is at last animated

hikarub Dec 29, 2008 08:59 PM

Yeah, saw the last couple of episodes a while back. I agree in that there was really nothing that stood out, and that's not because I already read the manga and knew the ending before hand. Rather, they weren't up to the standard set by the first OVA series 'cos I'm pretty sure the quality and pacing was much better then. The last OVA (Elysion) overall had a pretty significant lack of impact.

:(
