Favorite Ice Cream Flavor

It's a basic question. Are you boring person who enjoys vanilla or someone who walks on the wild side and scarfs down pistachio almond?

I'm partial to banana ice cream, when I can find it. Otherwise, I go with butter pecan.

Edit: Now I feel silly, because I forgot to put "banana" in the poll. :(

:cow: :milk: :cake: :cow: :milk: :cake: :cow: :milk: :cake: :cow: :milk: :cake: :cow: :milk: :cake: :cow: :milk: :cake:

orion_mk3 Jun 11, 2007 03:07 PM

You should feel silly beacause you forgot to put Blue Moon on the list. Best flavor ever, as measured by its ability to stain, turn your tongue blue, and send you into hyperglycemic shock.

Domino Jun 11, 2007 03:19 PM

I guess Banana and Blue Moon (do explain this one) could come under other in the poll. I go for Raspberry Ripple myself, can't beat it.

nuttyturnip Jun 11, 2007 03:20 PM

I didn't put it on there because I've never heard of it. What does it taste like, blueberries?

orion_mk3 Jun 11, 2007 03:59 PM

Not really. Pure sugar with a vague berry-esque twist and a very crystalline texture. Bright electric blue.

Alice Jun 11, 2007 04:06 PM

I voted for vanilla because you didn't have my two REAL favorites on the poll: grape and Cherry Garcia.

Elixir Jun 11, 2007 04:22 PM

Orange Chocolate Chip (so I guess "Other"). Always been my favourite from a kid. Orange also happens to be my favourite colour tied with teal.

Also Mint Chocolate Chip ftw. :D

so you think vanilla is the end all and the all of ice-cream, do you? Well I need more than vanilla, and for that matter I need more than chocolate. I believe that we need freedom. And choice when it comes to our ice-cream, and that Alice, that is the defintion of liberty.

Dullenplain Jun 11, 2007 05:28 PM

I have bland and simple tastes when it comes to ice cream. Generally, it doesn't run beyond the chocolate/vanilla dichotomy. On other times I may want a coffee ice cream or something more savory (such as Dreyer's French Silk) as opposed to candy sweet, like a fruit-flavored ice cream.

Ben & Jerrys (cherry and dark chocolate pieces if memory serves). In fact I was going to say Phish Food (aka other) but I only eat it once in a while otherwise I'm sure my tastebuds will die of chocolate-oversaturation or some such thing.

So yay Mint Chocolate Chip :)

nuttyturnip Jun 11, 2007 06:02 PM

If the poll limit wasn't 20 items, I could have added more things. I didn't think about Ben and Jerry's flavors; I had the Baskin Robbins homepage open instead.

And orange chocolate chip? That has to be the worst combination I've ever heard of.

Cherry Garcia is the favorite of both my dad and myself. You can always find a pint or two in our freezer (along with what ever random flavor I decide to pick up)

they really need to start selling B&J's by the half gallon.

I love fruit and ice cream with actual fruit in it. I had some REALLY good raspberry sorbet from the local ice cream shop the other day and it was so good because it had pieces of raspberries in it.

Damn, this thread is making me hungry. I think I should stop at the local ice cream parlor on my way home.

Hey, don't knock it until you've tried it.

And you obviously haven't.

Misogynyst Gynecologist Jun 11, 2007 07:11 PM

Know what I love? Pistachio ice cream.

Know what I hate? The fact that Pistacchio ice cream has fucking pistachios in it. If I wanted something crunchy, why would I be eatin ice cream?

Graffiacane Jun 11, 2007 08:30 PM

I believe my favorite flavor is plum. It's incredibly soft and tasty =P~
Ah, and I love Vanilla, too... And I still have to taste Pistachio ice cream.

gidget Jun 11, 2007 09:00 PM

Phish Food and Half-Baked from Ben and Jerry's are my favorites. I've always loved cookie dough ice cream, though.

I also used to love Bubble Gum ice cream. I got it a few years ago and it's disgusting. I can't believe I used to eat it so often.

Oh sorry yeah, apparently it is. I actually searched and found a youtube video of someone in a NZ dairy showing the orange chocolate chip.

YouTube Video

It's sold in tubs here, next to your vanilla and lime chip ice cream. I really like it.

Lime chip? There's a reason these flavors haven't caught on elsewhere, you know.

Also, owned by disabled embedding.

Elixir Jun 11, 2007 10:28 PM

Try that.

Lime chip is something along the lines of this, but in tubs:

They don't taste bad by all means, it's just something (like marmite or vegemite) that doesn't often see it's way out of down under.

Muzza Jun 12, 2007 12:25 AM

^_^

My favourite would be Vanilla (and I'm proud of it >=[) and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Pertaining to that is Cookies and Cream; both of which are very decadent and very delicious.

I put down "Other", too, since I'm bound to like other flavours. I just can't think of them right now. Oh, honeycomb, I guess. More'll come to me later.

Hey, I like that one, too. Jaffas are the only thing I can fathom that people may be able to relate to. I love jaffas, too. o.0

DeLorean Jun 12, 2007 12:34 PM

Jamocha Almond Fudge. There's no competition.

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Jun 12, 2007 02:57 PM

I've always been fond of black raspberry and lemon sherbet.

Of course, you left "black raspberry" off the poll, despite it being one of the most popular flavors around. Instead, you put in "black walnut."

Black Walnut? Do people even eat that? Ugh.

nuttyturnip Jun 12, 2007 03:06 PM

I eat Black Walnut sometimes, because sometimes they have that instead of Butter Pecan. The owner just figures, "We'll throw in something with nuts and no one will be able to tell the difference."

Ceres Jun 12, 2007 05:30 PM

Hey Muzza...what's in honeycomb? it sounds good like it would be good...is it just honey?

Sin Ansem Jun 12, 2007 07:09 PM

This entire topic fails for no mention of cookies and cream.

Nothing spices up vanilla like chunky Oreo goodness.

Temari Jun 12, 2007 10:09 PM

I love vanilla as long as there is hot fudge or the like involved. Just plain ice cream, I do find it kinda boring. So I'd have to go with chocolate or cookie dough.

Also, Ben and Jerry's Fossil Fuel. Unfortunately I havent seen it around much lately, but it. is. amazing. Vanilla and chocolate fudge swirled ice cream with chunks of (dinosaur shaped!) fudge inside. Mmm.

We have both those flavours in Frappe Snowland.

Dekoa Jun 12, 2007 11:51 PM

My favorite ice cream flavors according to 2 different types

Ben & Jerry's:
Americone Dream
Vanilla heath bar crunch
Karamel Sutra
Phish food
Mint Chocolate Cookie

All other brands:
Straberry
Mint
Heath
Oreo

Summonmaster Jun 13, 2007 12:36 AM

Give me exotic flavours anydays over boring old strawberry, chocolate, vanilla or whatever. I like stuff like Coffee, Cheesecake, Bubble Gum, etc. when I see it, but I will jump towards my favourites or less standard flavours like Mango, Red Bean, Taro/Ube or Green Tea at first opportunity.

Dopefish Jun 13, 2007 12:41 AM

Who in their right mind doesn't like Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream.

Guru Jun 13, 2007 02:11 AM

I'm not a big ice cream fan in general, but every so often I'll have some, or get a craving.

Chocolate ice cream (especially soft-serve or chocolate frozen yogurt) is probably my favorite.

My sister works at Dairy Queen and brings things home all the time...I like peanut butter and chocolate combos (like a butterfinger blizzard made with chocolate ice cream).

i pretty much avoid vanilla ice cream most of the time, it may be one of the reasons I don't like ice cream much.

Generally, I'd much rather have a specialty latte from Starbucks if I'm going for the sugary indulgences.

Yeah, it is good...it does contain honey, but not an overwhelming amount, IMHO, despite the name. It's apparent in Crunchie bars. I can't really elaborate further, but if you see it one day make sure you give it a try.

RacinReaver Jun 13, 2007 03:09 PM

Garr, have you ever tried a water ice (or Italian ice, same thing)? I know it's not really available in California ( ;_; ), but if you ever travel to the east you should try and get some. Dragoon Kain and I talked about it a bit in Divest's thread in Angst, it's a fantastic alternative if you're lactose intolerant.

For my own opinion on ice cream, I'm pretty cool with anything that has peanutbutter or chocolate in it. For an added bonus I often like to break up hard pretzels and put them in my ice cream. Nothing beats smooth, cold ice cream with little interstitial bits of salty, crunchy pretzels. <3

There's an Italian Ice place called Joe's Italian Ice in Garden Grove (~2 miles down Harbor from Disneyland), and they might have other locations around Southern California.

Sousuke Jun 13, 2007 09:59 PM

Sherbet. SHERBET. THERE IS NO SECOND 'R'.

Okay, I'm done.

I love mint chip ice cream. And orange [or most other flavours available too] sherbet. There's some other ice cream flavours that I like, but can't think of them at the moment. I haven't had ice cream in a long time, which is sad.

nuttyturnip Jun 13, 2007 10:02 PM

I'm not a big fan of citing Wikipedia myself, but dictionary.com in this link also says that sherbert is perfectly acceptable.

Quote:

sherbet

noun
a frozen dessert made primarily of fruit juice and sugar, but also containing milk or egg-white or gelatin [syn: sherbert]
Anyway, to avoid derailing, I've chosen strawberry, cheesecake, and mint chocolate chip. I've always been a big fan of strawberries, and I've tried some pretty tasty strawberry cheesecake ice cream (I think they had some at Dairy Queen; I better go get some tomorrow. P= ).

The mint chocolate chip is a recent favorite of mine. My college's cafeteria had some in the ice cream section last semester, and I gave it a try. Now I take every chance I can at getting some of the mint chocolate chip before its eaten by everybody else. It's a very popular flavor around here.

Fiddlegoof Jun 13, 2007 10:58 PM

Chocolate chip cookie dough has always been my top favourite. I used to collect the cookie dough in one cheek, and see how big I could make it in one go.

Another close contender would be neopolitan (spelling?) But when I do eat it, I usually just take out the strawberry, and add a little bit of vanilla and chocolate. It tastes especially good when you mix them all together in to one liquidy flavour. :P

Jochie Jun 13, 2007 11:03 PM

My real favorite is dulce de leche. You can add an Other to my vote if you want.

No. Hard Pass. Jun 13, 2007 11:04 PM

Jochie, Dulce de leche is an ice cream flavour? I know how to make the stuff, but I had no idea they made ice cream out of it. That would be AWESOME.

I voted "other" because my favorite is mint.

Just mint ice cream. I have yet to find a only-mint treat though; there's usually these nasty little brown bits mixed in =/

Don't get me wrong; I love chocolate, but damnit all, I just want mint-flavored ice-cream! D:

Oh, I'm also fond of ginger-flavored ice-cream, with it's sweet and slightly bitter taste <3

No no no... Swiss Orange is amazing. It's apparently not a down under thing, because we have orange chip also. Just because it's sherbet doesn't mean anything.

I love Dulce de Leche, but Breyer's Mint Chip is probably one of my favorite things in life. Also, Dreyer's/edy's used to make a commercial peanut butter ice cream with peanut butter swirl that was Heaven on Earth.

OMG yes. I love green tea and mango ice cream, and taro is also really good.

Summonmaster Jun 14, 2007 08:12 PM

Has anyone tried any particularly weird flavours? I had red bean a couple of minutes ago, which should be reasonably normal, but the place had wasabi and ginger flavoured ice cream, both of which I would think taste nasty.

Ozma Jun 15, 2007 06:58 AM

Actually, ginger tastes nice and unique. Give it a try! Chilly flavor is nastier, and I've experienced it (not in outlets, more like a prank).

Nobody likes green tea flavor...[sigh]...that's my favourite flavor, though it makes me die quickly.

Radez Jun 15, 2007 07:44 AM

Coldstone Cremery has a new flavor, french toast. It supplanted yellow cake batter as my favorite.

nuttyturnip Jun 15, 2007 08:37 AM

I can't imagine french toast flavored ice cream. Guess I'll have to try a sample.

Smelnick Jun 16, 2007 03:38 PM

Quite frankly, I enjoy vanilla icecream alot more than anything else. Cookies n Creme comes in a close second however. I just like to keep my food simple. I'm one of those people who only puts ketchup and relish on my hotdog because anything more, and it'd be too complex. Same with icecream. When faced with the choice, I choose vanilla because I know it tastes good, and its the easiest choice to make.

DragoonKain Jun 24, 2007 12:41 AM

I usually love Strawberry Shortcake flavors. Haagen Dazs makes a great one that I like.

I also like classic Mint Chocolate Chip.

Hellscythe Jul 6, 2007 01:20 PM

Just curious, but where do you find blue moon ice cream exatly?

LaMenina Jul 6, 2007 09:00 PM

There's a small local creamery kind of by where I live (it's located at a crack and heroine part of town) and they make the BEST ICE CREAM EVER. It's all homemade, and it is so rich and creamy, and so FRESH. None of that freezerburn edy's crap at Dierbergs or whatever. Their butter pecan is ORGASMIC.

Celes Chere Jul 6, 2007 09:02 PM

Mint chocolate chip is my favorite, but it has to be green. The white kind just doesn't taste the same to me. :(

Same with pistachio; has to be green.

Mr.Ramen Jul 8, 2007 01:08 AM

Anyone for rosewater or lavender ice cream?

Krelian Jul 8, 2007 09:18 AM

I actually had kiwi ice cream about a month ago and it was heavenly.

Also, I like vanilla. :(

Luminaire Jul 8, 2007 11:06 AM

Definitely Deer Tracks. It's basically vanilla ice cream with a fudge ripple and tons of peanut butter cups. Mmmm, it's best in a sugar cone on a hot day.

For the more common flavors, I always fall back on Cookies n' Creme and Mint Chocolate Chip. Mint Cookies n' Creme is also delightful to the taste buds :D.

wyntergrace Jul 9, 2007 04:12 PM

It's rum and raisin for me, with butter pecan a very close second. I have to say though, the most important reason for me to eat ice cream is if it's covered in caramel sauce or with a slice of apple pie!

Joe of Parma Jul 15, 2007 01:49 AM

The only choice is Stephen Colbert's AmeriCone Dream. Vanilla ice cream with chocolate-covered waffle cone pieces and a caramel swirl. Heaven.

SunkistTheHedge Jul 15, 2007 01:12 PM

That's actually really similar to the Dumstick flavor recently put out by Edy's. It's vanilla ice cream with waffle cone coated in chocolate, a caramel ribbon, and peanuts (I forget if they're covered in chocolate). After a few bites it became an instant favorite for me.

The European "Gilato" ice cream is a MUST HAVE! Once you try it, you will never want to go back to the milk original ice cream we have in North America! As for the flavour, ice cream should always come in pure chocolate in my opinion!!

Additional Spam:
Ok, Ok, OR...Rainbow Sherbert, I must admit is also a winner!

Radical Jul 16, 2007 07:40 PM

My favorite is chocolate, but I voted for them all (except for Rocky Road - gross) because pretty much any ice cream is good ice cream. My favorite brands are Haagen-Dazs and Ben & Jerry's, and my least favorite is Coldstone (gross).

My favorite ice cream is definitely Ben and Jerrys Peanut Butter Cup. When I get in the mood for some ice cream I head to the store and look for that and if they don't have any I will go with my second fav which is cookie dough.

gulahi Jul 19, 2007 09:10 AM

yoghurt ice (less fat)... what was the name of the famous US-franchise brand?

other than the ice yoghurt, the flavour Italian nut is my favourite!

Plankton614 Aug 15, 2007 07:52 PM

Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream. I nearly ate the whole container in one sitting! I was shocked; I really don't eat that much normally, but it was so addictive. I think the fact that Stephen's face was plastered on the container influenced my love for the product itself, though. On the other hand, that ice cream is DELICIOUS. I highly recommend it to anyone who has yet to experience the orgasmic taste of Colbert at his creamiest.

bahamuty Aug 25, 2007 10:57 PM

Mint chocolate chip, triple chocolate and green tea are my favorite ice cream flavors.

I used to eat gelato when Haagen Daz made it. I wish they hadn't discontinued that line. But there's this one icecream palor place that has freshly made mint chocolate chip gelato that was the best I ever had. Too bad it's so expensive and out of the way.

Torte Sep 5, 2007 06:06 AM

Cheesecake flavour? WTF?!

In my country, we have this expensive sht called Kapiti icecream (I think). Had a function where they served it for afternoon tea and got to try all 5 decadent flavours (plus the icy hangover later too). Triple choc>White Choc & Strawberry>Hokey Pokey>Berry Fruche or something>Vanilla Bean. I love vanilla only when I've got some sickly sweet hot pudding to go with it. When I was overseas one time, I tried Nutella icecream - best ever I think - as well as Oreo and Tequila(?) which were pretty good too.

matira_bay Sep 5, 2007 09:02 AM

Pralines & cream is the best. Basically anything that contains caramel. I've heard about onion-flavoured ice cream. Has anyone tried this?

Elixir Sep 5, 2007 05:05 PM

No, it's because lime is one of the least appetizing fruits. We'll try new things, as long as they aren't lime.
