Boycott SimCity 5 (Societys)
So the fifth and if current indications are anythign to go by, the last SimCity game has been announced.
It's being developed by So now they're going to sully a franchise people actually give a shit about. I'm not buying it, and neither should you. http://media.1up.com/media?id=3318946&type=lg Where the fuck are we? http://media.1up.com/media?id=3318947&type=lg Mimetown is shit. |

It sounds a lot like City Life, incidentally. By the way RAB, the vBcode you wanted was [strike] [/ strike], not [s] [/s]. |
Cheers I'll fix that.
yeah sounds a lot liekthat trash City Life. and No, EA have MAXIS under their wing. you know that companyt hat managed to deliver 4 fucking awesome SimCity games. Jesus crists. This enough should be catalyst for Will Wright to take Maxis and Spore and jsut leave EA, fuck knows they make more money for EA than they get back. Then, we can see the REAL SimCity 5. |
Those screens remind me of the God awful Streets of Sim City. Is this Streets of Sim City 2: The Revenge of Sim City's Streets? "YOUR FIRST MISSION IS TO DELIVER THIS PACKAGE IN TIME" "Alright! What's next?" "DELIVER ANOTHER PACKAGE IN TIME"
Oh well at least we'll all be able to squint our way to victory in http://tothegame.com/res/game/6412/boxshot_uk_large.jpg The last 'real' Sim City game I played was 2000 on Saturn. ;_; |
This will be a port of smash-hit SNES Theme Park, mark my words.
THEY WILL NEVER KNOW THE DIFFERENCE, OUR TARGET AUDIENCE ISN'T THE LONELY PEOPLE WHO BOUGHT THE PREVIOUS FOUR GAMES. |
"Awesome, my city has a spooky ghost house and jumping castle, that's all the residents will ever need! Time to save! ... Time.. time to.. where's the save optio-NOOOOOOOOOOO!"
|
Yeah SimCity DS only let's you save ONE CITY AT A TIME. Which is also a joke.
|
Maybe I am not a SimCity guru like some, but I don't really see the need for more than 1 city?
Of course this is because my SimCity game experience always comes to an end at the exact point I run out of room to expand and although there is no free land anywhere people still want a fucking airport installed PRONTO and it's like "fuck this" and starting over with a new city is so far down my agenda it has gone SUBTERRANEAN |
You can't judge a game just by a few measly screenshots. I guess with this game you can actually get right down to street level as well as building stuff the normal way.I never liked SC4 because it got way too micromanagey hard and stuff, and they said SC5 would go back to their roots or whatever, which is why I'm looking forward to it. They better give us more options for importing Sims into the game. The feature in SC4 was a joke.
As for having one city, I don't mind it at all, really. I don't usually ever play more than one city in the PC games, so having only one city in the DS version is fine by me. Infernal, you must play SimCity 3000 Unlimited! Pangalin, I love it when you have taxes down to a frickin' zero and the citizens complain it's too high. |
I haven't heard much of anything about what the gameplay will actually be like for SimCity Societies. All they've really confirmed is that it is not a realistic urban simulator and that it is so unlike SimCity that they are stripping it of the "5" in the title.
I'll hold off judgment for now though. After all, World of Warcraft is absolutely nothing like the Warcraft series that it's based on and we know how many people love that. |
Still waiting for my sequel to SimCopter.

I've been reading some previews and apparently you can't zone space for buildings anymore. You just plop down buildings wherever you want. That really doesn't bode well for me, but ah, it's too early to judge it yet until I get more info. P.S. Hell, I liked the giant pooping tiger. |
Sim City 4 sucked. Sim City 2000 & 3000 were the best. Same with Super NES. Hopefully the DS one is good.

In before "it was too hard" |
You're off your rocker if you thought SC4 sucked. Had a few things that were kinda iffy, but it was still overall an improvement.
As for SC Societies, the Kotaku highlight was a little interesting, glad to hear I can be Big Brother but I still have my grave doubts. And from the press release they had I just don't know how they can slap "SimCity" on this project, according the the press release Quote:
Maxis should really stop making god damn Sims 2 expansion packs and make a real SimCity 5. |
Yeah, what we need are fewer games with original design and more with marginal improvements!

I wouldn't be surprised if nobody even realizes that this SimCity isn't produced by Maxis. Although EA has a way of fudging up the works with their decisions (like when they bought Origin and pretty much ruined Ultima Online). At least SimCity 2000 will be eternally playable, since it's basically the best SimCity ever. |

simcity 2000 and 3000 was a hell of a time-eating monster. i spent countless damned hours working on them.

I had only played Sim City 4 in the year that it was released (2003 or something? its been such a long time now)... and I was disgusted by how much worse it was compared to 3000. In that original version of 4, I remember the ordinances being not as fun at all, the building of roads being irritating, and the relation to "the sims", a series that I hated, having to do with it. I also loved 3000's music so much and when I heard 4's music I wasn't happy.
It's been 4 years since i've given it a try again though... |

It's kind of an ugly balancing act for developers. People clamor for a sequel because they want new and shiny and novel, but there's only so much marginal refinement you can do to a game before it becomes redundant. Conversely, monkey around with the core game TOO much and then everyone complains that it's not the same game anymore. I guess the question is whether Sim City has reached the point of diminishing returns. Judging from people's reactions to Sim City 4, the answer is probably no. Thus the complaining. |

Worthy critisims fo SimCity4 are that the game was broken shipped, and while Rush Hour fixed it, it broke OTHER THINGS like making you be able to get money on a whim with the missions. The NetworkAddon mod made everythign much more awesome though. Quote:

YootTower. Yoot Saito left Maxis and developed it himself witha new developer and publisher. He was obviously so proud he named it afterhimself. It was released in like, I dunno the 90s. I hear it's EVEN HARDER. But yeah, I'm still COMPLETELY HEARTBROKEN over this. I mean, Maxis are making motherfucking spore. Youc an't tell me that parts of that engine couldn't be modified to create a new, SimCity game that we're all dreaming of. And I just feel that Maxis and the SimCity brand deserve better. I mena, Maxis have probably made more money for EA than ANY OTHER DEVELOPER they own. The obscene profits The Sims generates would fucking outstrip Madden surely. SimCity was the game taht made Maxis and clearly the game Will Wright holds most dear. And now some fucking startup with only a mediocre Rome themed SimCity clone to their name gets the franchise. |

Is rapidly approaching zero really that much better than zero? :(

The only problem with the Network Addon Mod is that like, well they've released a new version in the past fortnight or so. Can I really be bothered installing it again (no installer for mac) and then openign and closing each of my cities to let it take effect? Cos really, that's a lot of shit to do for what? Marginaly better performance?
If however someone can confirm for me that they fixed (or at least changed) monorails then I'll make teh effort. |
