Metal Gear Online Discussion

Because this is the next best online game I've discovered for PS2 since FFXI, I feel the online portion of the Subsistence collection deserves its own thread. Post your username, Rank, notable accomplishments (kill counts, headshots, etc), any useful info you discover, etc.

I also hope we can arrange some GFF-exclusive matches later on. Post what kind of matchups you'd like, along with the rules, and maybe I'll personally try and host it (someone with large bandwith would be better though).

Name: SNATCHER

Rank: None (was formally PIG, but I fortunately lost that rating. PIG and TAR are the two ranks you don't want).

I'll post my stats later once I have access, but I don't really have anything to brag about.

Pietak Mar 17, 2006 07:53 PM

Edit: Can we have a banner?
http://img50.imageshack.us/img50/3302/mgo1dq.jpg

Damn you! I was going to be the one to make it!

Regardless, I don't have the game yet anyway (Damn USPS) but I'll let you have the props.
Basicly, we should really make a close network in the Friends utility, and here is where we'll all be able to find everyone's information!

I'll post up my future tag when I get up and running right here:

Name: Pietak

Rank: None

Stats: None

There we are, getting up to two members so far...

Ronz Mar 17, 2006 08:03 PM

I got my PS2 Network Adaptor in the mail yesterday and i'm picking up Subsistence tomorrow, mainly for the online component which i'm hoping will be tons of fun.

I'll update this post with my info once I have the game and i'm online.

Edit: Game obtained and MAN it is fun stuff.

My name in the game is same as here, Ronz. Gotta get GFF games going SOON.

Kimchi Mar 17, 2006 09:27 PM

The god damned game is out already? DAmn it now I need to pick the game up. (Is this snake eater or NEW online?)

Soldier Mar 17, 2006 10:21 PM

It's both. Also, I'm pretty surprised how very few members own the Network Adaptor. Granted, there weren't that many PS2 games that supported it, but I figured FFXI, SOCOM 1-3, and Madden alone would be enough for some people.

Spatula Mar 17, 2006 10:52 PM

Me neither, regarding the network adaptor.

I'll look forward to MP once I'm done the solo campaign (as said before, I've never played Snake Eater before.)

Name: Spatula (I hope this won't get taken, but seriously, how many players will name themselves after a kitchen utensil now).

Rank: none.

Stealth Mar 17, 2006 11:16 PM

I'm starting a Squad with a friend of mine. We'll be the cardboard box brigade, should be great.

I need to go to the post office tomorrow, I think my LE is waiting for me. :)

Timberwolf Mar 18, 2006 12:37 AM

Are people picking up network adapters just to play this game.

I'm tempted.

Slayer X Mar 18, 2006 01:01 AM

I've been playing MGSO for a couple of days now and it's alot of fun. I like the team matches the most myself, because if you get a good batch of teammates you can do alot of cool strategy.

Name: Slayer-X

Rank: 3082

Pietak Mar 18, 2006 02:18 AM

Hey guys, let's keep this thread for Tags/Stats/Ranks only, post comments in the official thread ( http://www.gamingforce.com/forums/showthread.php?t=337 ), just to keep it clean here, and easy to add everyone. :)

Soldier Mar 18, 2006 02:42 AM

I dunno, I think it's fine to post any comments and discussion in this thread. It makes it easier to find info on the game.

I'm having trouble finding a game that isn't full of lag. Too many times I've been unfairly killed by characters zooming in and out of the field. I'm shooting a guy in first person from a mile away, and he's instantly in front of me. Do I blame my connection? His connection? The host's? Or are there actually cheaters out there? Is it because I join a cramped server (Snake)? Or does Konami need to start releasing patches?

Freddy Krueger Mar 18, 2006 03:37 AM

My name is Freddy Krueger, I have been playing quite a bit and only ran into 2 games with lag. I always choose a server with low ping. Anyway this game is addicting and tons of fun!

Soldier Mar 18, 2006 04:59 AM

And where can you find out if the server is capable or not? What numbers are good, and which ones can lead to lag?

Freddy Krueger Mar 18, 2006 06:25 AM

Its the color next to the sever name, green is the highest, yellow is medium and red is bad.

Slayer X Mar 18, 2006 11:39 AM

I myself also play in the lobby second from the top. Mostly because the people seem to be better players there and it's not as crowded.

Ghodbane Mar 18, 2006 03:36 PM

I've been playing a few deathmatches; still haven't gotten the drift of the other modes so far. It's definitely worth picking up the network adapter for (I got mine for 9.99 preowned from eb).

Username: Gaspars_app

Stealth Mar 22, 2006 10:44 PM

I should add my name to the list:

Name: Andor1
Rank: Chameleon
Stats: None

Pietak Mar 22, 2006 11:30 PM

I'm thinking of setting up a room/game one of these days so we can all add eachother to the "Friends" list.

What's the best time for everyone?

WolfDemon Mar 27, 2006 03:43 AM

I <3 some MGO right now. I usually play on the Snake server under the name WolfDemon, same as my GFF name. I don't really have a best time, since I never know when I'm supposed to get out of work now. They pretty much just tell me when I can go. But if we get a time set up, I'll try to be on then.

Spatula Mar 27, 2006 10:57 PM

Nice I got my network adapter today. Hopefully will see you guys online sometime. I'll see if I can register with the name Spatula, so you'll guys recognize me, hopefully.

Hey, you know if we ever want to play, we should choose a universal server to play in. More preferably a server that usually has 0-10 people in it tops.

Also online is kind of like heroine, but in a good way.

Spatula Mar 30, 2006 05:16 PM

I usually play in the Snake server mainly because theres like 500 people on it any minute, so quick joins are fun.

I can host easily. Although now I'm busy with exams and shit. PM me April 22nd when I'm going to fucking rape my Accounting final (I hope, not get raped by), then we'll start a game.

Game room: FUN IN THE SUN

Game room password: FUNNY

I put a "GFF" infront of my player name, just so it's not just by chance another player is named Spatula.

Maps we'll play:

1) Kill House B

2) Log House Map (some Russian name then followed by "EAST")

3) (Another crazy russian name) Lab - the one with lots of stair cases and breakable windows

4) Brown Town

5) You guys can choose, but I'm edging for the one where it's mainly outside but there's this wrecked building you can go in and get to the roof.

I'll put 99 life tickets and 40 minute game. It's usually how I play, and NO FRIENDLY FIRE!

Pietak Apr 2, 2006 10:54 PM

April 22nd it is. Everyone, MARK YOUR CALENDARS! NOW!

No complaining, everyone be there.

::marked::

Make Brown Town first! I love that map more than I love most things. The design and flow of this map is FLAWLESS. There is NO place to hide (hrhr) on this map, completely non-broken.

Spatula Apr 2, 2006 11:04 PM

About Brown Town there are sniper spots but they aren't quite strategic where you can lay down to get a good scope of the area. I'm actually not too familiar with that area but I'm setting the game to extra long (99 tickets and 40 minutes) so we can have a rolling good time.

My last exam is done at 12 PM and I'm planning on eating or something, so I'll be back at my house about 1:00 PM Mountain Standard Time.
This is like 3:00 PM for New Yorkers, and like 12:00 PM for peeps in the California region.

How about I log onto GFF at 12:55 PM to private message you or post in here saying it's going to start in like 5 minutes? That should give you enough time to set up.

I will be in the Meryl Room, since there won't be as much traffic and it'll be easier.

So here's the revised info:

Game room: FUN IN THE SUN

Game room password: FUNNY

Forum: MERYL

GAME START DATE: APRIL 22, 2006 AD (lol)

GAME END DATE: When hell freezes over

GAME START TIME: 3:00 PM EASTERN STANDARD TIME (IE NEW YORK LOCAL TIME)

I put a "GFF" infront of my player name, just so it's not just by chance another player is named Spatula.

Maps we'll play:

***IF you can PLEASE put "GFF" before your user name so it's easier to quickly identify you guys. ***

Funny you mention this, as it is THE ONLY CHEAT that exists in this game.

Appearantly this is a big deal at GameFAQs, the subject, not this specific cheat. People go bananas about lag issues and think people are cheating, when this of course is just their lag problems (or someone elses).

This specific cheat, though, really can be a cheat! It is called "Lag Switching" or something like that. ONLY THE HOST can do this. It pretty much means the host is disconnecting briefly, freezing the other charactors but allowing him to move freely, thus letting him make his escape while everyone else is frozen. You can easily tell someone is doing this when the game's connection is unstable (you get a red alert on the bottom of the screen "connection unstable") and the host is jumping all over the map. THE ONLY WAY TO COUNTER THIS is to leave. Just leave, it's not even worth playing in an unstable room anyway.

Now, if a non-host does this EVERYONE lags and NOBODY can run around freely, so it is pointless.

Now, other so-called "cheats" include the dead body glitch and the shooting through walls move. Both of these are lag issues. The Dead Body Glitch is when someone is a dead body and killing you. They're body never respawns, and yet they are running around kind of like a ghost and killing you. This is by far the most obnoxious glitch in this game, mostly because it is unpredictable and the only person effected is YOU. The other guy, and most likely the other players are able to see the "ghost person." If this is happening to you, check your connection or that person's connection. In the end, it's not a bad idea to just leave the room.

Another, very common issue is Shooting Through Walls. Pretty much what this is is when you're running along and you manage to hide behind a wall as someone is shooting you, but they still kill you. Other similar events like this include Books and Claymores that people seem to walk over and are unneffected, as well as you rolling THROUGH people, rather than hitting them. This is all general LAG, and can't really be avoided. Your best bet is to find the best connected room possible and make sure you're connection is good as well.

As far as people using GameSharks or other stuff like that, it's probobly not possible yet, but you never know.

Also I Can't exactly change my name in game, just remember that I'm Rasputin :P

DRAKO Apr 3, 2006 02:20 PM

thnx both answers..
first, i think NOW it the same time in ny n in chile..

second...i played only 2:30 hours and i found 3 or 4 deads killing ppl, 2 flash soldiers (i mean, i killing a soldier and i blink and the same soldier it is my back and shoot me) and 1 killing for fire thru´walls...

and i like the possiblity of a big scene with 30 o 40 minutes..that gives time to recover (in my case, a little) the diference between kill and deads..in the eva server, though

just that,,,

Spatula Apr 3, 2006 02:38 PM

What? Would it too much to ask if you could type in simple and comprehensible sentences? I’ll overlook if you’re from Chile and English isn’t your first language, but please do try to type using a degree of proper grammar and spelling. It will cause less confusion when I’m finalizing the details of the game come play time. I don’t mean to be picking on you or anything, but…

If you're worried about any lagging or issues of ammo clipping as Rasputin has mentioned, he can consult me on what to fix when I'm hosting.

DRAKO Apr 3, 2006 05:54 PM

well.sorry..
i just try to put thing happened to me ..

i ll be quiet now...

Spatula Apr 3, 2006 06:16 PM

No worries mate.

Alright, I'm going to put the FRIENDLY FIRE feature on since I think it'll make the game more fun, and create a greater sense of teamwork. This brings my next point.

Can all these games be TEAM DEATHMATCHES. Is this okay? It's my favorite type of game, and I really don't care for the capture the keropan or sneaking missions.

DRAKO Apr 3, 2006 08:25 PM

yeye..
" i will be the bait and the rest kill"

Spatula Apr 3, 2006 09:10 PM

Also, get your F keys ready. And by that I mean the automatic radio commands, besides the generic "ENEMY SIGHTED" radio commands. I've already assigned my buttons and memorized them. Put some useful lines like, "The enemy is on the roof!!" or "I need a grenade!" and stuff. I have a few other funny F-lines, and you guys will see all of them eventually.

Congle line of abuse. Or is that conga-line. Or congaline. Apr 3, 2006 09:16 PM

interesting :o i only have a few, but they're the "secret" messages ;) like /ch and /q

good stuff

Spatula Apr 3, 2006 09:29 PM

Did I mention, I like to "rape" dead bodies (especially Reiko) by repeatedly pressing the X button on top of them? Then I salute. WIN.

Why secret messages when it's your own team that you can select to listen to your radio commands?

Mobius One Apr 3, 2006 09:48 PM

Aw man, how did I miss this thread? My MGO name is CORNERED_FOX. I'm usually on Friday-Mon nights. I'll try to join the next event. Keyboard and headset are go.

Pietak Apr 3, 2006 10:41 PM

Spatula - Not to worry, I'm only Polish-Canadian nationality, but I'm located Eastern Standard Time (-5:00GMT), so 3:00PM works fine.

I anticipate the event!! I've gotta get some skills brushed up now.

LS Apr 3, 2006 10:43 PM

This is a lame and stupid question but can a user with a 256k connection play this game?

Mobius One Apr 3, 2006 10:52 PM

Should be able to, that qualifies as broadband. The minimum connection speed setting on MGO is 92 kbps, but I wouldn't recommend something that slow.

LS Apr 3, 2006 11:00 PM

Thanks, awesome hah i might play this after i buy a network adaptor.

Congle line of abuse. Or is that conga-line. Or congaline. Apr 3, 2006 11:07 PM

You can even lie and say your connection is better, which appearantly makes the game less laggy. This is what I hear, so you may want to give that a shot if you think you want a better connection.

LS Apr 3, 2006 11:48 PM

But does it let you play online with a pirated game right?

Congle line of abuse. Or is that conga-line. Or congaline. Apr 4, 2006 12:54 AM

Hmm, it doesn't ask for a code or any kind of verification of your purchase, so it probobly does, but don't quote me on that.

Spatula Apr 4, 2006 12:58 AM

Okay, I'm taking this as a yes:

5)Mobius One
6)Liquid_Snack
Hey Mobius, how well does the headset work? Do you have the logictec one? I saw a set on sale for $20, is this a good deal?

EDIT:

7) Stealth

Stealth Apr 4, 2006 12:59 AM

Hey, count me in.

Mobius One Apr 4, 2006 11:17 AM

I have a Sony headset that I got for $15 at Fye (even though they still go for $30 most other places). It's pretty good. I would recommend either a Sony or Logitech one if you can find good deals on them. I would highly recommend against buying any other 3rd party headsets as most of them are crap, particularly this unknown brand I had called Game-talk or Talk-net. Those only work with SOCOM 1, I bought them for SOCOM 2 because they were cheap but they don't work. If you have an Fye near you I would check there to see if they have the Sony one for a low price, otherwise either invest the money in a Sony or Logitech one or don't get one at all. Nobody seems to use the headset on MGO, and since that's the only game I'm playing right now online the headset is pretty worthless. Unless you play SOCOM and perhaps a few other online titles it might not be worth the money. Actually I don't know if the headset works for PC also (which would add value to the purchase), but since it was designed for PS2 I'm guessing that it doesn't.

What is worth using is a USB keyboard. Custom F-key communications are good to have. Particularly "Take the hi-ground" or "Attack the lower levels" are good for virtually any map and acts as a simple tool to concentrate team firepower to certain locations without having to say much at all.

Edit: Also, for playing online with pirated copies: I don't know if they work or not, but Sony's DNAS authentication system might be a problem. Sony's DNAS authentication system basically makes sure that your online setup is Sony approved. I had a bitch of a time getting online with MGO with a non-Sony wireless network doo-hickey, the Online Setup Disc would connect online, but the DNAS wouldn't authenticate when I tried to play MGO. The solution was simply not to use the wireless device and connect directly to my router with a 50 ft Cat-5 ethernet cable. Long story short: If you use a pirated copy, Sony may have methods to detect if your copy is genuine through DNAS and it won't authenticate when you try. Then again, they might not filter individual discs with DNAS and only your network setup. It's worth a shot.

Congle line of abuse. Or is that conga-line. Or congaline. Apr 4, 2006 12:28 PM

I'm using a non-sony wireless thingamabob, and it connects just fine.

Also I may just buy a cheap headset for this occasion, just to hear you whiney 12 y/o voices, I kid of course...

I wish you could hear other's voices without the headset though, would make the game more fun, like if the top player on your team was giving directions while the rest followed (hopefully). But of course this game makes you feel like paying extra for a headset is a waste, since appearantly nobody talks anyway.

Spatula Apr 4, 2006 12:59 PM

I already have all my function keys programmed for action codes, so this makes the headset redundant. Plus it's a $20 I can put elsewhere more useful. Ie more games.

you can talk about this in this forum?
because....

Spoiler:
i don´t have problems with "my" dnas...

Mobius One Apr 4, 2006 05:24 PM

Do you have a pirated copy? I was just offering a reason for any problems with pirated copies.

Some wireless thingamabobs work for PS2 (either they're supported by Sony or made for PS2 or they simply happen to work out) and some don't (the one I was using didn't work. I opened ports and removed firewalls and everything. MGO would only work without it). Anyway, I was just telling the story to illustrate that DNAS can be a bitch sometimes when working with non-authentic stuff.

ANYWAY. What's everyone's favorite track to listen to in MGO? I like to listen to "the Fury" because it's quiet and kind of creepy sometimes, but "Pursuers" is definitely the most kickass.

Soldier Apr 4, 2006 05:33 PM

Mobius, do you get an echo of your own voice too when using your headphone? Maybe that's why no one uses it.

It is true that a headset is pretty much unnecessary in this game. The preset commands do a good enough job, plus you can make like Snake and go solo on your own, and still get the jump on your enemy. Teamwork is still the best though.

Spatula, are you certain you can host all of us without any lag? If so, I'd like to join in.

Mobius One Apr 4, 2006 05:42 PM

Yes I get echo, there's no way to fix it. The echo's not so bad though, I don't think that's why nobody uses the headset. Most people I encounter online are using one, but they never talk into it. I think it's because you have to reach all the way to the SELECT button and hold it in order to talk, which isn't a good idea in a battle. Plus most people don't have much to say as the team can support itself well enough without having to use the headset. Another thing is that you can't use it if your radio is dead (which happens easily enough: claymores and grenades knock it out immediately I think) or if you just died. If there were a "toggle on/off" feature and everyone could use it at once, I think it would be more popular. Hopefully in MGS4...

Soldier Apr 4, 2006 05:55 PM

As for the keyboard, I have a Logitech Keyboard Controller (used for FFXI), but I think it would be too cumbersome to switch from the PS2 pad to the keyboard, considering how frantic this game is.

I don't want to wait for MGS4 Online, I want either some patches, or an expansion pack. This game is too fun, and it can get even better.

Mobius One Apr 4, 2006 06:08 PM

Well, there's always the stealth element if you want to take the time to type a message. Just hide in a box in a less traveled area of the map and type away!

I really don't see updates or an expansion pack happening. Updates would eat up too much memory card space, and Subsistence already is a sort of expansion pack to MGS3 in itself. Maybe a patch or two, but it looks like we'll have to wait for MGS4 for more MGO.

Spatula Apr 4, 2006 06:17 PM

Most of the games I've hosted don't have the annoying CONNECTION UNSTABLE notice, so I think it should be okay. If my internet is sucking balls, then I'll have whoever else to host with a good connection. Just keep the same room name and password.

Yup, the M63 American "light" machine gun (light as in compared to a tank cannon) makes you scream when you're firing it and running forward. Despite its supposed awesome power, I can never get any kills with it. It seems terribly inaccurate and it takes a second to get up to speed.

Both RR characters use the Sunrise Suplex, but they each have their own salute taunt. Oh, and the one on blue team with the black cloths stops to look at the book, unlike Raikov. Wonder what that could mean?

Spatula, when's the next game?
Nevermind, April 22. That seems like quite a ways away. I love City Under Siege. Snipers can dominate it easily, but there are ways around that... I also love Ghost Factory, Pillbox Purgatory, and Brown Town (complete with Sniper Alley).

I team up with my brother alot online and we've both been struggling to come up with easier names for the buildings in the City Under Siege. So far the best we've come up with is "Single ladder building", "Double ladder building", and "Big roof building". They should have easier names, like Bob, Phil, and Jerry. Anyone have any good names for the locations?

Both girls look at the books ;P

Raikov is gay.

Also, Drako, this forum doesnt exactly follow anyone's law but it's own, so don't tell anyone.

Also I second the Rumble Roses special charactors. Also, FF off for the love of pete, FF pretty much ruins Claymores.

Anyway, I think that's all for now

Stealth Apr 5, 2006 12:44 AM

Friendly Fire should stay on. God forbid you guys thing tactically for once. :p

Spatula Apr 5, 2006 10:27 AM

Friendly Fire is on. Sorry for the trigger happy. I want this to be somewhat Rainbow Six like, guys. Yeah, Soldier of war SHOULD be able use their brains, not just fingers on the trigger. WE ARE NOT STORMTROOPERS.

Also, the RR Reiko Girls looking at the books makes me so giddy.

Spatula Apr 7, 2006 08:50 PM

Okay I'm getting a DNAS error 603. Damn, anyone have any clues?

Claymores + FF = bad times

DRAKO Apr 8, 2006 03:10 PM

has you tried to connect with another name..?
maybe the problem it is when you send your login information...

just maybe.,..

Spatula Apr 8, 2006 07:09 PM

Yeah it works now, it's probably due to the servers being all full last night.

This morning and afternoon was fine.

Hey, guess what GameFAQs churned out: An explanation to ranks.

Someone meandered into the realm of the japanese internet and discovered this page:
http://www6.atwiki.jp/snake/pages/183.html

All in japanese, and one guy kindly enough translated it. I shall post it into this spoiler tag as to save space for everyone. Some are still iffy, of course, but this is pretty damn close to the truth.

Spoiler:

Each animal represents a certain play style. For example, chicken shows cowardice.

Foxhound and Fox ranks take 15 hours of play time, Doberman and Hound ranks take 10 hours of play time, Crocodile, Eagle, Scorpion, Jaws, Kerotan (and two others) take 5 hours of play time, all others take 3 hours of play time.

* FOXHOUND (F.H)
Req.1 (The number of total team victories - the number of sneaking mission victories) divided by (the number of total capture rounds + total rescue rounds + total team deathmatch rounds) = 0.65 or above

Req. 2 (Total kills + total faints against enemy) divided by (total deaths + total faints) = 1.5 or above

Req. 3 (Total amount of sneaking mission rounds + total amount of rescue rounds) rounds divided by the total rounds = 0.65 or above

Req. 4 You have to increase by 30 ranks between each requirement.

Req. 3 (Total amount of sneaking mission victories + total amount of rescue victories) divided by (total amount of sneaking missions + total amount of rescue victories) = 0.5 or above

Req. 4 In between any rule your rank has increased by 200. (I believe this general translation is the F.H. requirement, not what I said before.)

* DOBERMAN (DOB)
Req. 1 (The total number of team (CAP, RES, TDM) victories - the total number of sneaking mission victories) divided by (total number of capture rounds + total rescue rounds + total team deathmatch rounds) = 0.6 or above

Req. 2 Use the cardboard box a bunch (maybe deals with amount of time in box, or stun evades using box??)
Req. 3 In the event of choosing between CHA and PGE, CHA comes first.

* PIGEON (PGE)
Req. 1 (The amount of kills in capture) divided by (the amount of faints you have in rescue) = 0.5 or below (Really unsure about this one.)

How about that. Here I thought you got the PIG rating if you got killed too many times. It doesn't look like deaths matter too much. If anything, team victories seem to be the key to a higher rank.

I thought I would at least get the F.S rank, considering how often I roll during matches.

I joined in one of Spatula's hosted games late last night. It didn't seem that he recognized me. We played for a bit in the canyon area (which I'm officially sick of since people keep picking it), but did pretty poorly. The other team strategized like crazy while everyone was avoiding Spatula's typed commands. All this whining about no one using headsets, and yet none of us used our own. :edgartpg:

Also, I finally gave my old PS2 pad a try in place of my Logitech Wireless controller. As I guessed, the Logitech pad isn't very precise to use, as the firing button is far too sensitive, resulting in too many accidental shootings instead of cocking the weapon. Even though it's wired, I recommend sticking to the original pad for MGS play.

Spatula Apr 11, 2006 01:21 AM

Who were you? It was actually my first time on that map, so I was just running around trying to find sniper spots. Also I usually just "spam" my instructions.

I AM LENNETH VALKYRIE :tpg:

Mobius One Apr 11, 2006 01:48 AM

Damn, I wish I had maps for this game. I took a look at the Subsistence strategy guide today. It's not worth buying, but it does have several handy maps as well as location names and descriptions on them (for instance that large flat roofed "hanger" in City Under Siege is actually a "garage". The elevated area between the spawn points that usually erupts in chaos as soon as the game starts is a bank! I never knew. Makes team organization a little easier). I WANT SCANS!
I already knew all the tactics listed for the well known maps, but I didn't know a couple of things on the maps I barely play. Can anybody locate scans of the guide?

I noticed it's a bit too sensitive too, but I got used to it. I have no trouble at all using the Logitech controller anymore.

evergreen Apr 11, 2006 05:00 AM

Did anyone else read the little bit about MGO at the end of the May issue of EGM? I thought I was alone in thinking that it's pretty subpar.

From all the hype, even in part from all the raving here, I thought it would be a pretty excellent game. Sadly, almost every time I went on, it was, as complained about in the aforementioned article, just a matter of who autoaimed first. Aside from Sneaking Missions, they felt really brainless to me. Obviously, if you play against certain sets of people, you could get more out of it. However, for someone who just wants a quick match, chances are you'll just be in a button-holding fest. The extent of the viable strategies I've used in the games I've found myself in is hiding in the cardboard box. I've tried more (surely not all), but yeah, considering the other players, some more methodical strategems (read: FUN) are not very useful.

I think a huge part really is the fact that this is Metal Gear and that's something near and dear to a lot of people. It's neat to finally be in the guards' shoes against Snake or pit Ocelot against Sokolov, but I found the online experience very unfulfilling.

Mobius One Apr 11, 2006 08:19 AM

Well, it's not quite as simple as holding L1 and square the whole game. There are other stratgeies used quite abundantly. If you're running at an enemy, you can stop and aim in first person to get a headshot long before you can see their name above their head and get a lock on. You could throw a grenade at them. You could snipe. You could wait around a corner with a CQC weapon for some hapless enemy and CQC them, likely ensuring a kill. You could place some strategic claymores around the map or you could use the book and wait for a perfect opertunity to use it. The weapon you use makes a big difference too. Another thing is the tranq guns. In team battles, stunning the enemy can sometimes make a huge difference. Though you yourself might not get as many kills, the team as a whole is more likely to succeed (and team wins affect your rank just as much a kills apparently). Then of coarse there's the good ol' box trick as you so mentioned. The battles are just as fun with weapons limitations, such as knife only. Try a one on one battle, that uses alot more stealth tactics than the chaos-filled 8 person battles. There are also some less often used tricks, such as falling on an enemy to know them out. This game is pretty rich in strategy if you know how to use it.

evergreen Apr 11, 2006 09:00 PM

But how often do you really see a one-on-one server or, lesser still, people who want to play one-on-one? In terms of Quick Matching, it's very rare and I try not to be to picky so that I can jump into a game.

Another thing I found odd and ironic was that I was looking forward to this since it was going to be the anti-Socom in the sense that the environs were more enclosed and in most modes, you would respawn and get back in the game quickly. In the end, the kills here were less satisfying than the really sluggish but rewarding kills in Socom.

In terms of strategies I've run into, I've seen the claymores as buffers trick but not much else. I really wish they had a really wide open level. Not sure if I played through all the maps though so there may be one I haven't seen, but otherwise, none of them seem effective for sniping.

Mobius One Apr 11, 2006 10:48 PM

You do know that you can create your own game right? You'd be surprised how fast people join on Snake server on busy nights. You can also search for games with specific peraameters. You can sometimes get lucky and find a one-on-one battle just by scrolling through the different hosts and finding a "1/2" players joined.

City Under Seige is great for sniping, but pretty much every sniping spot has at least one weakness. Usually snipers get sniped themselves pretty quick. Lost Forrest is good for sniping, and it features some nice foliage to hide in while you do it. Brown Town has a great road for sniping (you'd know which one if you saw it, it's really long). The only problem is that if the enemy starts getting sniped alot, they can come at you from your defenseless side if they take the trouble to take the long way around. You can try to counter this with defensive claymores as well as relying on your team-mates for defense since both ends of the road are near the team spawn points. The mountain level is almost sniper's paradise since it's a big open level (albiet, vertically challenged). The level with the log cabin is also pretty good for sniping. Pretty much every level has a good sniping point except the small enclosed levels, like the Killhouses.

Congle line of abuse. Or is that conga-line. Or congaline. Apr 11, 2006 10:55 PM

When people throw out the auto-aim argument they seem to fail to realize that you can strife and wig out during the shooting, if done correctly, you will kill them. That and if two people auto-aim it's mostly about luck, that is to say that your bullets randomly fire in their general direction, and if you're unlucky they'll live, regardless of who started firing first.

Also, people who purely run/gun really are the weaker players, it's HORRIBLY easy to out-smart and essentially beat the crud out of them, even one-on-one. Don't forget you have a sub-weapon and an item. Grenades, Claymores and esspecially BOOKS can essentially alter the game in your favor.

That and first person is under used. Master it and you master the game. Everything that occurs in this game that appears unfair or "cheap" have ways around them. There is no single solitary strategy that can't be overcome, aside from PURE GODLY SKILL which doesn't exist in too many people, thank god.

Mobius One Apr 12, 2006 01:59 AM

I hate people that hate the shotgun. Anyone else encounter "No shotguns" in the title or comment of a game? Those that complain that the shotgun is a "noob gun" are themselves noobs. Sure it's annoying getting owned by the shotgun, but there are many easy ways around it, namely DON'T get close to people with shotguns! They are easily defeated at medium range.

So anyway, I just had a really good couple of hours. I dominated as the top player in a series of TDM and my team pretty much always won, however my rank never increased. Actually it was PIG yesterday and I lost it. When I started today I had no rank, and yet after about 2.5 hours of pure awesomeness on my part I still don't have a rank! I was also never a special character despite being the best player. WTF is this? Is there some option when creating a game to cause the players in it to not increase in rank?

Soldier Apr 12, 2006 02:38 AM

Strafing is the key when taking on someone who has a shotgun. Those things are deadly when they catch you, but can't hit for crap if you stick to the enemy's sides.

The real danger in this game are the snipers. I'm still trying to find a foolproof strategy for countering them, but it seems all you can do is catch them off guard.

Spatula Apr 12, 2006 10:26 AM

Hey guys, come Thursday night, I'll be free that night for some online games.
I'll set up a game in the Meryl room with "FUN IN THE SUN" as the the PW is "Funny". Same rules as posted above. I just want some some stress relief after writing a stupid final exam. It will be at about 12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time, since Friday is Good Friday and I can sleep in a bit.

Stealth Apr 12, 2006 10:30 AM

I'll try to make it, no guarantees though. The last few games I've played ended with the host kicking me because I kept owning him too much. Wtf.

Spatula Apr 12, 2006 10:35 AM

I don't kick unless they do stupid TKing. That or lag.

Zio Apr 12, 2006 12:10 PM

This sounds rather interesting... I'm glad my PS2 since I bought it rather recently about 5 months or so ago. It came with the adaptor...

So when you play online, what's the goal? To kill the other spies, is there co-op or what?

Kenichi Apr 12, 2006 12:45 PM

Meh, and I just got MGS3 not too long ago, this kinda ticks me off. I can't see myself buying the damn thing all over again, especially since I haven't touched it since I beat it. Online mode looks good......but I just don't know if it's worth $20. :\

Team Deathmatch

Sneaking (1 person as snake, others as guards to kill him before he steals items)

It's also fun to kick those who TK on purpose.

Stealth Apr 13, 2006 05:34 PM

Can't forget rescue missions. Also, Capture is better than most CTF games. It's a kerotan, and there's only one on a map.

What I can't stand is when someone shoots you on purpose JUST to get to Snake. I had Snake cornered and was pelting away at his life until some asshole started firing away with his shotgun, taking me out along with Snake.

They really should make whoever gets to be Snake next based on who does the most damage to him, not whoever lands the finishing blow.

Mobius One Apr 13, 2006 06:23 PM

I agree, or better yet make it random or give every player a chance to be Snake. The way it is now, it's all an individual effort to have the most points, so TKing is the norm. There's no real team effort to get Snake, it's all just a rat race to land the finishing blow. Maybe they'll change it in MGS4 so that there's more of a "team" of soldiers working together to kill Snake.

Spatula Apr 13, 2006 06:40 PM

I personally find those rather ... bland. I honestly only play the Team Deathmatch games.

Mobius One Apr 13, 2006 06:58 PM

I also like TDM the most, but Capture missions get really intensely fun! It's like super chaos with 8 players!

Isn't Capture just like CTF but with Kerotan/Gakko and Rescue the one with just a single Kerotan? Both are fun.

Stealth Apr 13, 2006 07:25 PM

No.

Capture Missions have one Kerotan in a random map location. Whoever captures it and brings it back to their base for 10 seconds wins.

Rescue mission has one team guarding the Gakko while the other team tries to rescue it and bring it back to their base. If you get killed on the Rescue mission, you're dead for the rest of the round.

(Btw, it's Capture Mission in MGSO, not CTF. That's probably where the confusion came from)

Mobius One Apr 13, 2006 07:41 PM

Oh, right. I haven't been playing anything else but TDM lately. Yeah, you're right, Capture is better than CTF in other games. The 20 second timer is great, it makes for some tense situations. I can't even tell you how many times the count-down has been on "1" and the Kerotan was stolen back. Brilliant!

That's exactly what I'm referring to. I really like the Sneaking Missions, but unless you consistently play with specific people, it's really hard to establish a rapport and be a "team player." It's hard to bother being all "I'll watch your back" when the favor never gets returned.

Soldier Apr 14, 2006 12:41 AM

Unfortunately I already had my MGO fix for the night before Spatula decided to host. The game I was playing was real intense too, a TDM where both sides were down to their last man. Too bad mine lost.

The indoor area (the one with the stairs) is my favorite area in the game. There's so many cool things to try and places to hide. Tossing a grenade the right way so it bounces down the stairs never gets old.

Spatula Apr 14, 2006 12:16 PM

Hello...

So are will still up for the REAL game a week this Saturday. I didn't expect too many people to come out for last nights game since there was barely any warning. Sorry guys.

Stealth Apr 14, 2006 12:27 PM

I just played horribly, fucking claymores. :p

Spatula Apr 14, 2006 12:39 PM

I played like a drunkard. Oh wait.

Yeah there were a few times I saw mobius and wanted to fire, but my thumb was on the wrong button, especially after playing GTA San Andreas and my fingers memorized that pattern. It took a while to get back to MGS controls.

Mobius One Apr 14, 2006 02:03 PM

LOL. Thank you GTA!

I recorded last nights game just for shits and giggles. I'll upload it to Google video later, hopefully some time today if iMovie hurries itself up. It'll let you guys see the game through my eyes. Apparently I suck at memorizing where I put all my claymores, I run into them a bunch. I also thought I could roll over them for some reason and not get hurt. Damn FF! To tell the truth, I meant to select some grenades after fortifying my base, but I kept forgetting and always wound up with claymores in my inventory, so I would lay them just to get rid of them.

Soldier Apr 14, 2006 02:44 PM

Now I just have to get into a game with you so you can record me as well. What do you use for recording PS2 videos anyway? That's one feature I'll be really looking forward to with PS3.

I have a mission in FFXI tonight, so I won't be on, but I should be able to get on tommorow, so long as it's at night.

Mobius One Apr 14, 2006 03:05 PM

I have a Mini DV cam ($300 Canon ZR80) that I can capture direct video with by hooking it up to the av outputs on the VCR that my PS2 inputs go into. It's not really that hard, but I only have about 40 minutes on the tape that I use (I have footage that I don't want to record over) and raw video data eats up so much HD space it's insane. I'm almost out of space on my HD right now. I'm actually searching for things to delete as iMovie compresses the MGO video and saves it to the drive. It's a race!

Zio Apr 14, 2006 09:55 PM

MGO is Metal Gear Solid 3 or wahtever the newest one correct? cause I plan on buying it soon and so I will be able to join you guys soon.

Then perhaps we woudln't have to worry about people TKing and etc.

it seem my dearest boss change my time in the work
so, i can´t play in the friday´s afternoon..
maybe in the night..

so..somebody fill the empty slot...

anyways..
easy target,eh? es my actual nick..
so try no snipe me..

Mobius One Apr 19, 2006 08:43 PM

Really? Sniping from where? I'm not a huge fan of the lab because all the games I've played in it have been bad for me.

Well, here's the video I did of the last game that took place. I took the music from my collection of Metal Gear music. It's 32 minutes long, I was too lazy to edit it cleverly. Enjoy:

MGO Brown Town GFF TDM

Google lowered the quality. The one I submitted is 236 mb quicktime. If anyone wants it I can upload it to Rapidshare or something.

Spatula Apr 19, 2006 08:49 PM

I'll let you figure it out when we play. There are quite a bit for both the red and blue teams. The weakness with sniping though (as with many other games, especially MGS) is:

1) You can't move and it takes a good 3 seconds for you to go prone, then put out your gun, then get the correct focus.

2) If you spawn right where the enemy currently is, you're as good as dead.

Hey Mobius, how did you do that video capture? I'm interested!

EDIT: Mobius, YOU MUST take footage of the ENTIRE game we've got on our hands this saturday. I want to be able to analyse how each of us are playing and if there are any lessons I can take. I've learned some new tricks watching you play.

Mobius One Apr 20, 2006 01:01 AM

I explained how I recorded the game earlier. Basically I just record the game with my mini DV cam by using the video outputs on my VCR. I only have about 40 minutes off DV tape that I can use to record the game, so I'll only be able to get a part of one round (unless you turn the #tickets down a bit). I might spectate one game and record a few minutes of somebody else playing.

Yeah, I realized I'm not such a fan of the indoor maps. We've gotta play CUS, Ghost Factory, and Brown Town on Saturday's game! And maybe Pillbox Purgatory. Those are my favorite maps. Although we have enough maps to play as it is. I just hope Rasputin's on my team ::FOX::

I see your favorite sniping spot in the Lab Spatula. I've seen people do that before, it's very hard to get at that spot. I would've stayed there with the RPG if it didn't run out of ammo. I didn't know there were multiple flamethrowers on that map. The end of the battle started lagging a bit, there were several "ghost" items. Tell me, what was the most effective way they killed you when you were sniping at our spawn area? Did stun grenades have an effect, or did you die when they rushed us en mass?

Spatula Apr 20, 2006 09:22 AM

The stun grenades are my sniping waterloo, Mobius. There's that area, plus the second floor where I set those claymores and I was rushing to find the command for you to STOP DON'T GET ANY CLOSE- but too late. God damn.

The second great spot for sniping is the library corrodor, it's a good spot since the blue team isn't exactly expecting it to round a corner like that.

My favorite spot for the blue team is the landing area which is the opposite side of the above sniping area, just laying on the stairs landing.

Now you see how I play. The art of sniping though is patience. Sometimes you won't get into the fray for a bit, but generally absent minded or not careful players are your prey. Furthermore, I try to get to spots where my field of vision is only 90 degrees and only one level, compare that to 180 with two levels that enemies can pop out from.

Congle line of abuse. Or is that conga-line. Or congaline. Apr 20, 2006 02:31 PM

Just watched the vid, man you got some crazy good skills there.

Also, didn't we just have a game together? I didn't even realize it was you till I left and came back. I can't even remember the details, other than my team was rockin hard.

Mobius One Apr 20, 2006 03:40 PM

Yeah, we did have a few games together (Rasputin right?). I was top player on High Ice a couple of times, yet I was never Sokolov. Do you know why that is? You also have very few deaths, what's your strategy?

Spatula, I can see why you like indoor maps then. You get the enemy in a narrow area right in front of you and you can take them down quickly and easily. No offense, but I find that kind of "sniping" to be a bit cheap. It's a good tactic to use, but it doesn't require quite as much skill as sniping in open areas (like in CUS for example). The only time I like to do that is in Brown Town down the long road, which I call "sniper alley". It's not quite as narrow or limited as the indoor maps, but all the enemies are in your FOV when you're lying next to the cars at either end of the alley. The only weakness is that enemies can come at you from the side, but sniping there is well worth it when the battles center around that road. I haven't done that in a while because most of my recent games in BT have centered around the red base (building I kept fortifying with claymores in the video).

Spatula Apr 20, 2006 05:18 PM

Sniping is cheap but then look at the major con about it: you can't move.
Just like I said previously, you sorta have to camp, given how the system works out that you can't move w/ SVD.

Mobius One Apr 22, 2006 01:25 PM

I might be able to play at 3, but I have 4:30 church with my grandparents. I'll try to make it back ASAP. And if the Fun in the sun game isn't going on all day, I'll be on later tonight Pietak.

I know I know, I'm not blaming you at all. My fault.

Spatula Apr 22, 2006 01:34 PM

Jesus guys, what are you bailing out on me early? JESUS TELLS YOU TO PLAY MGO, MOBIUS. It's the 17th commandment.

Pietak Apr 22, 2006 01:36 PM

Start the server now. I've got a bit of time.

Spatula Apr 22, 2006 01:42 PM

Okay. Fine. INITIATE GAME NOW!

Double Post:
Guys hurry up. I'm in the game BROWN TOWN already.

Mobius One Apr 22, 2006 02:17 PM

I've got the next hour free, where are you guys? I can't find the game in Meryl server, is it still going?

Pietak Apr 22, 2006 04:50 PM

"There are currently no games available to join."

5:50PM EST

.... ?

Mobius One Apr 22, 2006 05:40 PM

Yeah, it's like Spatula disappeared off the face of earth.
I'll start a game at around 8:00 (about an hour and 20 minutes from now) in Meryl server if anybody's interested.

Spatula Apr 22, 2006 06:29 PM

Sorry, I was puking my guts out. That beer was *nasty*. ;__;

Well I did run around Brown Town shooting boxes for like 30 mins from the original start time. Not a single soul showed up.

Mobius One Apr 22, 2006 07:03 PM

I couldn't find your game for some reason. I'm starting one soon so join up!

DRAKO Apr 23, 2006 02:44 PM

nah...
i just saw meryl server with 1 person , but no game...what is going on?

Pietak Apr 23, 2006 06:50 PM

Yeah it uh, was kind of a failure T_T . We should really reschedule.

Spatula Apr 23, 2006 08:25 PM

Fission Mailed. Totally.

Well unfortunately during my time off work, I want to make progress in a few RPGs, since last night (early this morning), I stayed up till like 4 AM playing a few rounds of MGO, so now I'm kinda sick of it.

Mobius One Apr 25, 2006 11:53 PM

I entered that 1up "play the KP staff" contest. Didn't win imo. I woud've taped the game against them if I won the contest, almost like sharing the win with the world...oh well.

I played almost 6 hours straight of MGO last Saturday after 8pm. I got really sick of it too, but all the MGS4 E3 hype is starting to make me want to play it again. ACZ comes out today, so I may not even have time for MGO for a while. I'm up for more games later if anyone wants to not fission that mail and actually get online!

Spatula Apr 26, 2006 01:10 AM

I was wondering how to enter that. I went to the site but god damn, thanks for bombarding me with 1000 other shit I'm not interested in.

Mobius One Apr 26, 2006 01:17 AM

Yeah, you have to join 1up first. 1up sucks apparently, plus it loads really slow for some reason. There were only 650 some entries in the contest, 1/650 isn't too bad a chance. That's far from lotto odds. But alas, only some undeserving *****'s won.

::shakes airbourne fist in eternal rage::

Spatula Apr 26, 2006 01:35 AM

So what, you play the Konami game developers or what? If it were the Japanese team, then it'd definitely be something to brag about if you win. I AM SOLID SNAKE.

DRAKO Apr 27, 2006 12:13 AM

i WANNA SEE THAT!!!!!

deathonabun Apr 29, 2006 11:31 AM

yea i Don't think that 1up will be much of a challenge to play if only the actual creaters of mgs played that would be kewl..if u guys ever have a spot open i would be glad to play in your games. i play as either deathonabun or 1337 metal gear. I host on Saturday nights under either Ninja or Liquid. But nice Forum u guys have goin here.

Mobius One Apr 30, 2006 08:29 PM

HEAD SHOTS!

Secret online mode has been recently discovered. If you create a game and name it HEAD SHOTS then you will only be allowed to kill enemies with headshots otherwise you explode! Try it out, it's really fun! You've gotta love that Metal Gear sense of humor.

Soldier Apr 30, 2006 08:49 PM

Wow, you serious? I wonder if there are other secret modes.

When's Spatula going to host another game? I still need to take him on.

Mobius One Apr 30, 2006 09:03 PM

Probably never since nobody joined the last one. And yes I'm serious. Try HEAD SHOTS mode for yourself.

Ramenbetsu Apr 30, 2006 09:55 PM

I just got this, played a couple rounds and I now realize that I suck TERRIBLY.

Mobius One May 1, 2006 03:41 AM

Keep at it, you'll get better. You do know to hold L1 to lock on right? Watch how other player fight and then adopt their tactics.

Pietak May 1, 2006 01:33 PM

No, were setting another game up no matter what. It's just that we failed miserably last time. This time we're going to set a later start time so that we can get a better attendance. I really think the 3PM start time was too early.

Mobius One May 1, 2006 01:57 PM

We've gotta do at least one HEAD SHOTS game, this shit is just too fun!

3 was way too early. I'm thinking 8 or 9 at the earliest. Maybe around 10. I also think we should all agree to post here the night of the game just to confirm that we can all make it. Last time it was just the three of us responding here yet the game was full on the signup. Everyone just kinda disappeared.

at least they kill me "just" the double amount i kill...( i kill 10 ,they kill me 20...)

:lolsign:

Spatula May 5, 2006 04:39 PM

I'm going to play/join a MGO game tonight at 1:00 AM EST. I might play other games in the Snaker server for a bit and then host a game. No promises on hosting though.

Soldier May 6, 2006 12:07 AM

I'm going to join in right now. Whether as allies or enemies, expect to run into me (SNATCHER) soon enough.

Mobius One May 6, 2006 12:39 AM

Oh shi, are you guys on? I just got back from work. I'll get on now, hopefully you're still playing.

Soldier May 6, 2006 02:03 AM

Spatula wasn't on, but I did run into a Cornered Fox who recognized me from GFF. I don't know which member has that name, but we did have a bit of fun setting up a barricade against our enemies. One of our opponents took advantage of that dead body glitch though. I love this game, but it sure gets laggy.

Mobius One May 6, 2006 02:06 AM

That was me. I'm CORNERED_FOX. I got kicked out of the game for some reason and I couldn't rejoin. Oh well. That game was kinda laggy despite everyone being in the green.

I also found a Snatcher (not all caps) that I mistook for you and I added him to my friends just in case.

Soldier May 6, 2006 02:09 AM

Oh, cool. I'll make sure to add you to my friends list too. Also, the voice chat seemed to be turned off in that session.

I also joined a HEADSHOTS game, and just like you said, you had to kill your opponents via headshots. The penalty for not using headshots is self destruction (seriously, you blow up). It was a bit too hardcore for me, as I still need to work on my aim.

Spatula May 7, 2006 05:49 PM

I'm hosting a game right now FUN IN THE SUN, No password and in the SNAKE server.

Prinnydood May 9, 2006 04:30 PM

edited out..

Mobius One May 10, 2006 03:03 AM

Umm....wrong thread?

In other news, this thread may get a little more crowded in several months as MGS Portable Ops has an online multiplayer very similar to Subsistance online and MGS4 will also see the return of online mode.

Prinnydood May 10, 2006 07:12 PM

Hah whoopsie..sry about the totally irrelevant post ^^...was kinda out of it heh....yea..lemme just uh..edit all that out

Spatula May 11, 2006 01:49 PM

I've been using Raikov's character for some time now. Does he have any special abilities?

Sokolov has the stealth coat and Ocelot has the ricochet bullets. The girls have the super CQC. How about our little "general".

Soldier May 11, 2006 01:51 PM

You mean you still don't know? CQC someone and find out. :tpg:

Also, the books have no effect on him. Yeah....

Mobius One May 11, 2006 02:08 PM

I used to like using Raikov and Reiko for their special CQC (instant KO), but that was before I found the knife. Now I hate using special characters because I like CQCing people to the ground, equiping the knife, and then stabing them as they try to get up. Knife kills are great.

Spatula May 11, 2006 03:09 PM

Can someone tell me why a knife hit is an instant kill.

Pietak May 11, 2006 03:32 PM

It's Syphon Filter 2 all over again. Haha, I remember how my brother would get so pissed when I kept knife killing him. Gotta love it.

Ramenbetsu May 11, 2006 05:51 PM

Im getting a new router in a couple days so i plan to play alot more often then. Now i have to unplug from pc to play and thats annoying...I also need to get ps2 mic but im cheap. I still wish i could atleast hear the chatter though.

Soldier May 11, 2006 06:33 PM

Interesting tidbit about the knife. I've often tried to decide what the best course of action is after I CQC someone to the ground. Usually I can't switch back to my primary weapon fast enough, so the guy manages to get up and turn the tables. If a knife strike will take him down fastest, perhaps I'll switch to that.

Spatula May 11, 2006 06:43 PM

What chatter, 14 year old boys scream at they're mom they don't want to do the laundry and skip dinner. What chatter. Just stick with the in game radio commands. As for the CQC or rolling, I usually quickly switch and use a SVD then I just point blank blast the fool.

Ramenbetsu May 12, 2006 06:20 PM

Played for around 2hrs today (will get on later and btw, my name in game is Tokubetsu) and had loads of fun. Whats my animal rank though? is it the red name at the top right hand corner of the screen during the pre-game menus?

Side Note: WIll probably be on later. but keep in mind, i do still suck..how the fuck are these people getting headshots all the time? and like 3 in a row.

Spatula May 12, 2006 06:53 PM

I'm going to be on pretty much right now for 2 hours or so. GFF Spatula, Snake server. TDM - always.

Ramenbetsu May 12, 2006 08:13 PM

Awesome, will try to catch you ingame

Spatula May 12, 2006 09:07 PM

The beauty of tea bagging. I love this. I'm surprised that I didn't see anyone else rape dead bodies after wasting them, but after doing a few rounds of the dirty deed, I saw others follow suit. And people say no tea baggin, lol.

Mobius One May 13, 2006 12:36 AM

About the knife: The first thing I do everytime I spawn is tap R2 to swith to my secondary weapon, then I swith the handgun out for the knife. That way I can instantly switch to the knife when I need it instead of fumbling about my inventory. I find the handgun to be virtually useless, I get far more kills with the knife than I ever did with the handgun. The only thing I hate is when you sometimes don't push square quite right and instead of stabbing it slices. You're totally screwed if that happens, but I've gotten much better at the knife since I started using it.

Spatula May 13, 2006 02:22 AM

I'm still having trouble with my inventory. God at least 40% of my deaths are due to me fumbling with the stupid thing in the heat of battle. Sometimes I pull out nothing at all. Yeah, fist them to death.

Ramenbetsu May 13, 2006 04:25 PM

I was ingame with a guy by the name of MOBIUS1 today, asked em if their from GFF and he said no though. Got my first animal rank today! Sloth... =(

Spatula May 13, 2006 05:46 PM

How often do you find yourselves getting kicked out of games? I play normally and use my X16ME gun and kill a few people, next thing I know is I'm kicked, especially if I'm playing in the CUS map. What the hell! I should start hosting more often now. Seriously.

Congle line of abuse. Or is that conga-line. Or congaline. May 13, 2006 05:57 PM

people can't handle true skill, it happens to me quite often.

Actually, it's funny, only when I'm being extra awsome do I get the boot, I almost never get kicked for doing something somewhat cheap.

Ramenbetsu May 13, 2006 06:19 PM

I find playing cheaply gets you kicked alot faster. Play a round with only the shotgun and see how quickly people start cursing/bitching at you.

Spatula May 13, 2006 09:06 PM

Yeah, I don't usually set up NO SHOTGUN rules and I actually encourage teabagging. I just love it, and get a kick when they do it on me. Okay, that' sounds sooooo dirty.

The last time I was on the CUS map, I went to the top of the red teams building, not the red brick one, but the one where you have to take two ladders to get up and the roof is surrounded by railing. Then you have to hop jump, not roll over, the railing so now you're hanging on the other side. Now you just jump down and there's this small platform that's perfect for sniping the low lying fields, although it does make you quite open the fire. So I sniped a few guys with my X machine gun and then got the boot . Seriously now. =\

People bitch about the stun grenades, which I think is one of the best throw type weapons. God, people. I should start hosting again, then it's really no holds game. Come join me, my games are almost always in the Snake server, TDM, and FF on. The name is always FUN IN THE SUN. And I never kick, no matter how badly our team is losing. I only kick when there's a bug or glitch and the dead guys can kill. God that's annoying.

Mobius One May 13, 2006 11:14 PM

The "red team's building"/building with 2 ladders in CUS is actually an office building. Just call it the office from now on. This is why I requested the maps a few weeks back, knowing the actual names of the places makes talking about stuff so much easier.

My brother up in Michigan bought the Subsistence strategy guide. I'm waiting for him to scan the maps for me. I'll yell at him this weekend to do it. Once I have them I'll post them here so that we can all know the "official" names of the various areas. Just makes life a little easier.

I'm CORNERED_FOX in MGO. That other Mobius must be an Ace combat fan imo. There was actually an "Ace Combat Zero" game going last week for fans of the game, I tried joining but it was full. 2 of the best series ever, Metal Gear and Ace Combat.

Spatula May 14, 2006 02:28 PM

That's OFFICIALLY it, I quit playing MGO for now. Seriously people get so pissed off just at some "harmless" camping in Killhouse B. I mean, that's possibily the best way to play that map for me as I just lay low in one of the corners and pick them of away. It's not that cheap now is it? There's so many different ways to attack me with grenades...but NOooooooooo they can't handle their asses getting kicked. Those players for the lose.
Some fag called Brian12345 or something like that decided just to do that.
Either I host now or don't play. Period.

Pietak May 14, 2006 11:44 PM

Alright. We've got to set up another game soon. Anytime after 3:00 this week. Cmon! Let's do it.

Ramenbetsu May 15, 2006 11:03 AM

Hosted my first game Sat. It was Capture only (my favorite mode so far) and on High Ice, server filled up quickly and had some REALLY good games..but i messed up roundtime/rounds so we were playing the map forever so i just stopped the game lol.

EDIT: And yes Mobius1, when you get those scans please do share lol!

Spatula May 21, 2006 11:29 AM

Seriously, MGO is now filled with such pansy players that go, OMG you got 3 kills to my one frag, I'LL KICK YOU OUTTA THE GAME.

Yup, last night was the last straw, I thought people would be more mature in being good sports, but nooooooooooooo.........

Ramenbetsu May 21, 2006 11:36 AM

thats pretty strange, ive been finding games with ALOT of good players lately. Other day i was in a game where majority of the players were like DOB or HOU. I must say i hate the map mountain top now, played a round on the server with dob and hou players, it was just people getting headshots from across the map with m16s...and im not THAT great when it comes to headshots =(
