If you can have a fast food open up near you

WHAT WOULD IT BE.

Yeahhhhh... Sonic Drive In is finally opening up nearby me which is SO awesome in itself. Back in Texas, I lived near one and often got good stuff from them. Good experiences from that place and hopefully this place will live it up too! :D

I really love their menu with variety and I'm a fan of their fountain drinks (tiny ice cubes ftw) as well as their shakes. :D

If it was SailorDaravon however (which killed him when he asked me to guess which fast food was opening up and I mentioned HIS places...), it'd go to Jack-in-a-box. O.o Our tv local channels is so cruel to show Jack-in-a-box commercials when the nearest one was 4 hours away. O.O

Congle line of abuse. Or is that conga-line. Or congaline. May 19, 2007 06:32 PM

Easily In-n-Out since there are none here in Oregon. I can't say much other than the simple delicious combination of meat and cheese is seriously fucking great, especially when that meat and cheese (as well as everything else they use) is all fresh, or at least something that makes it taste really good. That and having the option of stacking 50 patties and 50 slices of cheese in one burger is always nice, not that anyone would do it, having the option is good enough for me.

Plus they're special sauce, some kind of delicious.

And it's funny you mention Sonic, I see commercialls all the time here in Oregon and in Cali, but I have yet to ever see one ANYWHERE in the entire world that I've been, granted I've probobly havent been around as much as others here, I've seen alot and haven't seen one of these.

Alice May 19, 2007 06:35 PM

I'd kill for a Round Table Pizza, but those are only on the West Coast. They used to have this Hawaiian pizza that was to die for.

gidget May 19, 2007 09:16 PM

In-N-Out. There's a million by my house, but when I'm up at school the closest one is in San Jose and it takes far too long and costs way to much to get there on the buses (we can't have cars on campus until we're Juniors, so I'm stuck with public transportation).

Rydia May 20, 2007 12:14 AM

I'm already in California, but there aren't many In-N-Outs around my area. The closest one is about 30 minutes away, and I only manage to eat there whenever I visit my parents. There are several Chipotle restaurants near me at least.

nazpyro May 20, 2007 12:18 AM

I'm in Maryland, and there aren't many In-N-Outs in my area (about 0 in this coast). Some friends and I tried to go a couple weeks ago after a concert, but the closest one is about 3000 miles away. I only manage to eat there when I visit my family there. There are several Chipotle restaurants near me at least.

Divest May 20, 2007 01:22 AM

Sonic.

There's TONS upon TONS of commercials for the place but I can never seem to find one. They must have some an amazing drink menu.

I ate at one in Texas, but the food wasn't too fantastic. It was over-priced (which says a lot because everything was cheaper in Texas).

Philia May 20, 2007 01:29 AM

WTF RYDIA NAZPYRO! COMEON NOW. >.> AVATARS. Congrats on the GOLD BORDER BTW.

And yeah I heard a lot of good things about In and Outs, I'd love to give that place a try. But like Naz said, I'm in VA and there's isn't one for STATES away. :\

Demosthenes May 20, 2007 01:35 AM

Popeyes Chicken...delicious.

They have them in the south, but in the north there is only the same old dry KFC. At least Popeyes made it look like it made an effort to cook the chicken, while KFC gives you the damn food straight out of the freezer..ehh.

You live in LA, right? (I read the SoCal meet thread). There's a Sonic in Anaheim. It's a pretty far drive for you, though. Also, you're right about the food, it's not that great.

Arainach May 20, 2007 12:06 PM

Let's see. I've got the whole set of major chains - McD's, Burger King, Arby's, Little Ceaser's, Subway, Taco Bell - within half a mile of my house. When I'm on campus I've got all that and so much more. Truthfully, if I ever want anything remotely related to fast food it's right here. I guess if I really had to choose I'd like an A&W for the floats. I've got one 10 miles down the road or so but I almost never go there since I don't have an occasion to go downtown much.

Temari May 20, 2007 05:24 PM

White Castle. The closest is like, two hours away in New York. I'll be honest... I havent even tried the burgers (other than the stuff found in the frozen food section), but after seeing Harold and Kumar go to White Castle so many times, there HAS to be something appealing about it, right?

Gechmir May 20, 2007 05:37 PM

Grandy's.

Best fucking restaurant ever, but it's a small chain. There was one here when I was a kid but it closed down. There aren't any in Houston, and most are centered around Dallas-Ft. Worth. Best food ever <3

Dullenplain May 21, 2007 12:12 AM

There was one Grandy's I know that occupied a spot near the intersection of HWY 6 and 290, but it's changed into some Kettle restaurant now.

For me? Unfortunately, I'm one of those who is particular about specific items from various places, so I can't agree on a whole menu at once. So, no single fast food joint for me, I'd probably do well with something like a mall food court.

nuttyturnip May 21, 2007 07:59 AM

I'd like to have either a Jason's Deli or McAllister's Deli open near me, but both of those chains are in the South and Mid-West. Steak N Shake taunts me by opening in most states surrounding Virginia and Maryland, but not actually in Virginia and Maryland. Their food is ok, but I really miss the strawberry cheesecake milkshakes with fudge on top. Lastly, it would be nice to have more Schlotzky's Delis around me. The only one in the Washington/Baltimore area is in downtown DC, not close to where I work. I take a long lunch sometimes when I get a craving, but it would be nice to have a more convenient location.

Paco May 21, 2007 10:53 AM

Fast food has, for a long time, been a thorn in my side. I've always hated it and the mere thought of going out for a BURGER now makes my stomach churn. Of course, that doesn't mean that all fast food joints should be condemned as there are some places that make genuinely good food... Like Chipotle!

In fact, I was actually going to say that I wish we had a Chipotle around here but it seems like my with came true over the weekend. :D

Yggdrasil May 21, 2007 05:29 PM

Lets see, I already have a KFC, Taco Bell, Jack in the Box, Carl's Jr, Del Taco and In-n-out near my place. The only other fast food places that immediately come to mind that I'm missing are McDonalds and Burger King, oh and Chipotle, which I sorely wish replaced KFC or Taco Bell since I almost never eat there.

RacinReaver May 21, 2007 05:42 PM

Am I the only person that was severely disappointed when they first had an In-n-Out Burger? It was good, but didn't seem to be any different than what I can get at Wendy's (though Wendy's has the Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger <3333).

I'd want a Carl's Jr. near me if possible. There aren't any out here in the east, but every meal I ate there over last summer was pretty kickass. Their one burger with BBQ sauce, bacon, onion rings, and cheese on it is to die for.

Also ate at Top's once (apparently a chain that's only in Pasadena) and they have some amazing chili-cheese fries.

Wow. I recognize those places from Texas. Actually my uncle by marriage is the owner of the chain of Jason's Deli. I think it was like... more than 15 years ago that he only had two at the time (locally). I knew he was expanding but wow.

And yeah my grandmother loved Schlotzky's. :D

They're owned by the same company and have almost the same logo as Hardees, which is on the East Coast. There aren't any close to where I live now, but growing up, the food was terrible, below any of the other major burger joints. There was one Hardees in the bad part of town that would fix up a bunch of cokes, then just leave them sitting out and hand you one when you ordered. Yay, flat soda and cold fries.

RacinReaver May 21, 2007 07:21 PM

They are owned by the same company, and have the same logo, but they have completely different menus (the last time I ate at Hardee's it was decent, though the food wasn't nearly as good as Carl's Jr.).

GhaleonQ May 21, 2007 07:41 PM

Smoothie shops that offer Splenda-like substitutes are the only things that I'd consume.

Malahk Angel May 21, 2007 11:25 PM

I gotta go with Sonic on this one.

The food may not be that great, but their Cherry Limeades are to die for. Goddamn I miss all the restaurants in Virginia. That reminds me... a Hardee's wouldn't be too bad to have up here either.

russ May 22, 2007 12:36 PM

There are Sonics all over the place in the south, so naturally I have one about 6 miles from my apartment {the only fast food type places on my side of town is Jacks and Subway}. Sonic's food is alright I suppose, better than McDonalds or Burger King, but still not too great. Their drink menu is where it's at though. Cherry Limeade, Lemon-berry slush, and about 40 others make it worth a stop there every once in a while, even if just to get a drink.

What my town is severely lacking, however, is an Arbys. I LOVE Arbys chicken fingers, and their chicken-bacon-swiss sandwich is extremely good too. Throw in a large curly fry and some cheese sticks and you will be ready for a nap pretty soon. Pretty much every time I am out of town, doing work or otherwise, and am by myself, I will stop at an Arbys for food.

My town has a Sonic, Taco Hell, Wendys, Burger King, McDonalds, Hardees, Popeyes, Churches {southern chicken place}, KFC, Captain D's, three chinese places, and one barbeque place for every five citizens it seems, all within about a 6 mile radius, but no Arbys.

Secret Squirrel May 22, 2007 12:44 PM

My niece and nephew like Sonic for some unknown reason. I thought it was rather mediocre.

I'd really be happy if a Teriyaki Bowl opened up somewhere around here. I've only ever seen it in Albuquerque, New Mexico, but it's so good. Their signature meal is of course, the Teriyaki Bowl, which is Chicken, Carrots and Broccoli, seasoned and served in a bowl or a cup.

Basil May 22, 2007 01:27 PM

Canada doesn't have Sonic, In-N-Out, Jack-in-the-Box, Taco Bell or Chipotle. I'd like them all to come up here so I can at least try them out, but the one I'd go to first is a Taco Bell, since a friend eats there quite often and he loves it. Besides, I want my McDonalds several blocks down the road to die. I've been forced to eat their food once a week and it has no flavor. ~_~

I would also love to see a place that serves Chinese food. Steamed vegetables, chow mein and sweet 'n sour chicken on the go = awesome.

nuttyturnip May 22, 2007 01:34 PM

Canada doesn't have Taco Bell? I mean, it's nothing special, but it's certainly passable for such a cheap price. Canadian McDonalds automatically win because they have Double Big Macs, unlike their American counterparts.

K_ Takahashi May 22, 2007 02:37 PM

Taco Bell would most likely be at the top of the list for me seeings how we dont have one for nearly 40 miles (and hell...that one JUST opened up).

I could see places like Sonic being a seasonal thing but not really profitable so I dont see that coming anytime soon. There are rumors of a Jack-in-the-box opening up (due to thier plan of going nationwide by 2010) but I'll wait and see (only good for the 2 for 99 cents Tacos).

RacinReaver May 22, 2007 03:31 PM

How is Jack-in-the-Box? The only time I've lived near one was last summer while in California, and everyone said the food is awful and I should stay away.

Also, has anyone else ever eaten at Moe's? It's kinda like a Chipotle or Qdoba, but they have a bit more variety and feels more like a traditional fast-food place because they give you chips with every meal (at least I think they do, I've only eaten there twice with my parents).

Adara May 22, 2007 05:46 PM

I would love for a Dairy Queen to open up in my area. I love DQ's ice cream concoctions and their regular food isn't bad either (from what I remember). Texas has a shitload of Dairy Queens, but for some reason my area is completely devoid of them. I remember driving west on I-20 heading to Lubbock a few months back and every single resting place with food and gas had a DQ, which left me wondering why they don't build one where I live. They'd make a killing.

RacinReaver May 22, 2007 05:53 PM

I've always liked DQ, but felt their service was too slow and prices were noticeably higher than that of typical fast food places, so I've hardly found reasons for dropping by there.

Also, how much does a blizzard cost nowadays? I remember they used to be fairly cheap, but last time I went to one I think a small was more than $3.50.

Adara May 22, 2007 06:45 PM

I have no clue how much a blizzard is now because I haven't been to a DQ in forever. If you're right, though, that's pretty expensive though I'd pay it to get my Blizzard fix every so often. To answer your question about Jack-in-the-Box earlier, the food's not too bad in my opinion but I hardly ever eat there because the prices are so high.

gidget May 22, 2007 07:37 PM

Jack In The Box is pretty low quality food. They're stuff on the 99 cent menu is good for the price, but the rest isn't worth it. They're shakes, however, are pretty damn good (I don't remember how much they are, though).

=O! I have so many memories of RoundTable as a child. My second babysitters took me there too. It was probably my first real experience with arcade games.

This is hard for me. There's a chili based chain of restaurants in the Los Angeles area called Tommy's. Fucking awesome chili cheese ANYTHING. Plus it's from LA so that gets to me.

For the real vague I'd love to have a Badger Cafe here. Was a Wisconsin Badgers/Packers football place in Vegas. Fucking awesome deep friend food, beer battered french fries, chicken fingers, deep frien pickles (=o) and whatnot. Awesome food and chea.

Now, more in general, an Arbys or a Carls Jr./Hardy's would be awesome. I hear so much good shit about Sonic though that it'd have to be considered.

There's a Moe's in the National Place food court a block from my office. I ate there once for dinner; after 3pm you get a burrito, chips, a drink and a cookie for like $6. It was good, especially for the price. I'd eat there for lunch, because 3 out of 5 days I end up at that food court, but the line for Moe's is always really long. Not sure why it's more popular than the other food there (Five Guys Burgers, Quiznos, a good pizza and chinese food place, among others), but it's faster to get food somewhere else during the day.

As for Dairy Queen, I love their Strawberry Banana Blizzard with Vienna Fingers, but almost none of their franchises still sell that flavor (haven't seen it for a few years). Failing that, the Strawberry Cheesequake is ok. Prices and Blizzard flavors seem to vary widely depending on the location and who owns the franchise.

RacinReaver May 24, 2007 03:22 PM

I didn't know you were in DC, nutty. Five Guys expanded outside of the city to Pittsburgh last fall and it's a delicious treat. <3

(That's also possibly the best food court I've ever heard of. All it needs is a Chick-Fil-A and I'd never leave.)

nuttyturnip May 24, 2007 03:29 PM

Cheap fast food is really hard to come by downtown (I work within a few blocks of the American History Museum and the White House). There's a McDonald's a block away that FAILS everytime in understanding what I've ordered, a food court downstairs with a Sbarro and Subway (which are crazy crowded), and lots of Potbellys (good sandwiches) and Quiznos. Burger King and Wendy's are a few stops down on the Metro, but they jack their prices up in addition to the 10% food tax. If you want Taco Bell, any kind of chicken (Popeyes, KFC, etc), Boston Market, or any other chain you've heard of, forget it. No Chick-Fil-As, although that was the only branded fast food place on the UNC-CH campus, so I got my fill there.

Philia May 24, 2007 03:31 PM

:D

Yeah, I remember Grandy's! :D Isn't that the place that served foods similar to home cooking? Like Cotton Patch? Its been a while. I live around in the eastern part of Texas and had seen plenty of places around there (surprisingly for a sleepy town).

And you're right about the DQs in Texas, they're just like everywhere. I love DQs but gee... I go for Sonic instead though.

Such a Lust for Revenge! May 24, 2007 06:31 PM

Holy shit I totally forgot about Dairy Queen. They have the most awesome chicken fingers/Chicken strip salads. Plus the awesome desserts. =OOOOOOO

Sonic is not all its cracked up to be as some say. And yes, its true Sonics rather focuses on the drink than the food itself. Trust me, I work there. :( And yes the food are overpriced...and I do agree with you on that. I personally prefer the Large Coconut CremePie Shake with Strawberry and OJ. Good stuff. :D And no we don't spit in people's food. :D

IdleChill May 28, 2007 01:19 AM

As a fair amount of you have mentioned, Jack in the box, definitely. I'd also like to see a Taco Cabana, and Wienerschnitzel.

My family travels a lot so I've been exposed to a wide range of fast food joints over the past 20 years. Those three would have to be my all time favorites, though.

Such a Lust for Revenge! May 29, 2007 07:28 AM

Jack in the Box... I remember when the Ultimate Cheeseburger was two dollars. I'd eat two of those and I'd be set. =V

I used to get gift money for McDonalds, KFC, Taco Bell and Wienerschnitzel. I got tired of all that shit fast except for Wienerschnitzel.

Dude, there's like three Taco Bells in my neighbourhood alone. I'm freaking sick of that place i've eaten there so often.

The fast food joint i'd want in my neighbourhood is A&W. It's about the only fast food joint i want to eat at anymore.

Identity Crisis May 29, 2007 04:23 PM

I once had a cheeseburger at this place called Twister's a long time ago. I remember the cheeseburger being the best fast food I ever had. EVER. There was a large amount of cheeseburger meat, and it every single bite was very tasty. Granted, I guess I could go to Twister's regularly, but driving several miles for a cheeseburger is hardly worth it, especially since the cheeseburger itself costs a pretty penny. Still, I would really love to try another cheeseburger from there.

Meh, it's probably for the best that there isn't a Twister's in my town anyway. My arteries and my wallet would be taking a relentless beating every single day.

Fiddlegoof May 29, 2007 10:53 PM

Seeing as I live in Canada eh, i don't get the oppertunity to eat at many fastfood places besides the obvious Mickey D's, A&W, Wendy's etc. Saying that, i'd like to see some American fast food companies expand in to Canada. I've always wanted to try a Jack-in-the-box burger, Sonic and according to many of you, "In-N-Out" sounds pretty tasty.

...Oh, well in that case, western Canada doesn't have Taco Bell.

Agreed on A&W, if I had to pick a fast food joint I'd want to eat at, it's that one. Shame you don't got one though :(

bahamuty May 30, 2007 03:39 AM

In N Out, I couldn't believe the taste of a fast food burger could be so fresh and delicious. It's about a four hour plane ride to my nearest one. :(

I think I have most of the common ones: McDonalds, Wendys, Burger King, KFC, Popeyes Chicken, Long John Silvers, Arbys, Taco Bell, Boston Market, Sonic. I was excited when Sonic stores became local but turned out the food wasn't great. The only fastfood place I eat at now is Boston Market.

nuttyturnip May 30, 2007 10:17 AM

I remember when Boston Market was affordable, 7-8 years ago when I was in college. Since then, their prices have gone up and their portion sizes have decreased. I still eat there every so often, but mostly they're not worth the price.

As for Long John Silvers, all the ones around me are located in the ghetto. There's one in PG county, down the street from where I used to live, and there's one in a ghetto part of Baltimore fairly close to me now. I don't know of any LJS in MD that isn't in a bad part of town.

SailorDaravon May 30, 2007 03:12 PM

Nutty. How much were Boston's Market typical two side meal? Say chicken medallions with gravy and mashed potatoes. I always been buying the frozens of those and they're quite good for 2 bucks over here.

I want to say a 2 side meal runs about $6.50, plus another $1.30 or so for a drink. Looking at their site, a couple of the one side meals costs $4.99, which isn't bad. I'm just cheap I guess. When you order the meatloaf, which is what I like, all you get is 2 little pieces; the pieces used to be bigger, and sometimes you'd get 2 1/2 to 3 pieces for a cheaper price.

When you consider that I could go to the Old Country Buffet and get an all you can eat lunch with the same types of sides and meat for $5.99 (with drink), Boston Market starts to look expensive.

Dee Jun 4, 2007 11:48 PM

I'd love to have an Arby's open near my place. I like the roast beef. And the curly fries. Nice. They just have that curly fries and roast beef specialty in my heart. Couple that with strawberry Fanta and that just brings back middle school memories.

BlueEdge Jun 5, 2007 01:12 PM

I'd totally love a McDonalds within walking distance of campus. Cheap, death dealing food. Well...mainly cheap haha... And incase no one corrected this, but there are Taco Bell's in Canada. Just don't think anyone should eat beans...so often...hahaha

n0sc0pe Aug 16, 2007 07:55 AM

White Castle. Pretty much everything else I can get since I live in Los Angeles. I heard rumors that Baja Fresh was going away for good, can anyone confirm this? FYI, Jack in the Box has excellent curly fries.

Conan-the-3rd Aug 16, 2007 02:30 PM

A McDonnalds stand or a BK Stand that only serves the £1 icecream with the sweets mixed in.

Yggdrasil Aug 16, 2007 05:10 PM

At home I'm pretty much set as far as fast food is concerned. I think the only things I'm missing near home is Sonic, Popeye's and DQ. But otherwise I have just about everything within 5 or so minutes worth of driving.

However where I live to go to school is sorely lacking in fast food places, although an In-n-out within walking distance is nice consolation. Del Taco is pretty nice too since on Tuesday nights they have 3 tacos for a buck. But a Burger King or a Chipotle nearby wouldn't hurt either.

Oh hey, I've already posted in this thread before... and I'm still waiting for that Chipotle to pop up near by school...

RacinReaver Aug 17, 2007 09:49 AM

Haha, do you go to UCI? I remember going to Del Taco, like, twice last summer while I was there before I swore the place off. I'd also have killed for a Carl's Jr. there instead of the In-n-Out. (There is a Chipotle a few miles away that's pretty easy to get to by car. I think it's in the same shopping center as the nearby Target.)

nabhan Aug 18, 2007 01:42 AM

I want a Chipotle to open, however unlikely that may be. With Bluemikey continuously raving on about it and after reading many journal entries about burrito's bursting with delicious ingredients I can't help but want to try it.

LS Aug 18, 2007 11:05 AM

I would seriously love if they build a Taco Bell or KFC near my place (Like across the street) but that would seriously own me in terms of cholesterol and frequent heart burns.

SunkistTheHedge Aug 25, 2007 07:46 AM

i wish Baskin Robins would be close here It would be nice to try out the new oreo shakes and oreo sundees Sooo . Yeah thats my choice

nitsu Aug 27, 2007 02:15 PM

I want a Wendy's near me. They may be more expensive than normal, but I love their stuff. I haven't had anything from there in over a year because they are so far out of the way. I almost had a chance last November but because they were having staff problems that day we went to McDonald's instead. I used to live just down the road from a Wendy's. :(
